I've always really liked that in Origins your party members' unique accessories, armor, and weapons had a bit of flavor text that told you a little bit about them, and was really sad to find this wasn't the case in 2 or Inquisition. So I ended up stealing that idea for this.

So I’ve been working on an Adoribullavellan fanfic (with my boy Cylvin Lavellan) for the last month or so, and have been posting it to AO3. I figured I should actually post a link to the fic on here for people who are interested, so here it is!

With Dorian Pavus, love is trust, a refuge from the storm and shattered expectations and intimacy. It's familiarity, fumbling and insincere jabs and understanding.

And they both were home and heart to Cylvin Lavellan.

Sorry this took me a hot minute, EXU Calamity ruined me. Anyways, I'm gonna do Veshka Brosca and Cylvin Lavellan for these ones :D

5: 'What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?'

Veshka's main hobby before they left Orzammar was just 'trying not to get stabbed.' They didn't really have time for any hobbies before coming to the surface, so once there, they have to start looking for something to keep them distracted from the impending doom of a Blight. Surprisingly, they end up learning to press flowers. Ferelden has a lot of beautiful flora out in the wild, and Leliana is helpful in putting names to each of them. Veshka keeps a book of these pressed flowers to show Rica when they go back to Orzammar.

Cylvin has always loved drawing, even before he left Clan Lavellan. He loves capturing the beauty of the world where it can always be remembered. He doesn't have as much time to indulge in hobbies as he would like to after joining the Inquisition, but he tries to find a few quiet moments to sneak away and put pencil to paper.

6: 'Whats the hardest thing you've ever had to do?'

For Veshka, it was sacrificing themself to kill the Archdemon. They had once been so quick to jump at any loophole in a problem, just to keep them and their family above water. But they learn on their journey that the easiest solution isn't always the best one; watching Isolde sacrifice herself for her son, Zathrian letting go of old grudges and giving his life to save his clan, even Cairidan sacrificing himself and his life's work to keep the people of Orzammar safe. It's hard for them to let go of a life and love they never thought they'd find, but knowing the people they care most for will be safe makes it worth it.

For Cylvin, it's leaving his clan and never returning. He spends most of his time at Haven making it abundantly clear that he plans to return to his clan once the Breach is dealt with. But he's convinced to stay, and watching Corypheus attack Haven only soldifies that decision. He's a protector at heart, and even if these are not his people, he wants to see them safe. He writes to his clan and family as often as possible, a feeling of homesickness growing stronger every day. Then Clan Lavellan is attacked, and the Inquisition is powerless to save them. Cylvin loses his family and home in one fell swoop, and though Bull and Dorian are there to comfort him through it, he spends every day wondering if he should have stayed with his clan, been their protector to the bitter end.

20: 'Describe your biggest pet peeve.'

For Veshka, their biggest pet peeve is being underestimated. Like they can put up with a lot of shit, and can deal with a lot of people, but if you so much as insinuate that they can't do something they know their capable of, that's their limit.

Cylvin's biggest pet peeve is having elven history shemsplained to him. There's a reason he didn't really get along with Solas and Morrigan. I like to think he's someone whose very peaceful, but try to tell him who Mythal is and he will throttle you.

24: 'What do you consider your main love language?'

Veshka's is gift-giving. They spent most of their life with very few belongings, and even fewer they could consider sentimental enough to not sell when money was tight. Both giving and recieving gifts is very important to them, because it's not just about the material aspect, but caring and trusting someone enough to give away your possessions.

For Cylvin, it's physical touch. He's very particular about who he allows to touch him, so it's a big sign of trust to let someone. It's about the vulnerability of letting someone be close, both physically and emotionally.

hehehe ok, so I’ve been listening to ‘Call Them Brothers’ by Regina Spektor and it’s gotten me thinking about Cylvin’s relationship with Solas

So, Solas and Cylvin more often than not do not get along on a fundamental basis. Solas who desperately wants to explain the real history of the elves, and Cylvin who hates having such things explained to him as though he doesn't already know them. The first thing Solas sees when they meet is Cylvin's vibrant red Vallaslin proudly adorning his face, and Solas feels a mix of disdain and pity for him. Disdain he understands, but Cylvin doesn't want pity, especially not from the person who so freely disavows his own people. To him, if either were deserving of pity, it was Solas; so stuck in the Fade and in the past, he can't connect with real people. Cylvin sometime wonders if Solas even has a real stake in the fight against Corypheus.

But I think in spite of this, there is, in rare moments, a sort of kinship between them. They both understand the weight of a title unwanted, even if Cylvin doesn't know it, and Solas does often feel something adjacent to admiration for Cylvin's stubborn kindness and pride in his culture. And Cylvin could sometimes find respect in Solas' conviction to his beliefs, even though it often put the two at odds.

Cylvin tries to close the metaphorical gap between them, listens to Solas' stories, shares quiet conversations in elvhen, tells him things he knows would dishearten any of the others in the Inner Circle. But like most things in their relationship, it feels like trying to fit the pieces of two different things back together. Sometimes the pieces look like they almost fit, but at the end you will not have a whole by any stretch of the imagination. In the days leading up to the final battle with Corypheus, Cylvin asks if they might have been friends under different circumstances, Solas lies and says yes.

Can I get TEN facts - whatever first comes to your mind or just want to talk about - about Cylvin the Bullmancer? :)

Sorry its taken me a bit to get to this, but here! I wasn't able to come up with ten, so heres just an unspecified number of neat tidbits about Cylvin :D

He has a sword called Amelan, meaning 'protector' in elvhen. It was a parting gift from his father.

He's decently tall for an elf, at about 5'4, but he's still pretty short compared to most everyone else he's around. He's a little lad.

Although he doesn't believe himself to be Andraste's chosen, he does think it's possible one of his own gods put him there.

He cares a lot about honestly, both being honest to others, and them being honest with him. Bull is one of the only people who Cylvin really feels is at least trying to be completely forthright. Cylvin knows there's a lot Bull can't tell him, but he also trusts him to give what information he can.

Keeping with the fact that he cares about honesty, he is often times very blunt. He doesn't like to beat around the bush about things, and it can often times comes across as him being rude, even if he doesn't intend for it to be.

Although in game he's technically a Bullmancer, in my mind he's in a poly relationship with both Bull and Dorian. If I feel like it further down the line, I might go back through his playthrough once I'm done with this one and do Dorian's romance as well.

He worries a lot, about a lot of different things. But what he probably worries the most about is the safety of people he cares about. From clan Lavellan to his companions, he's a very compassionate (and anxious) person.

He REALLY doesn't like wearing shoes. They throw off his balance and make him suddenly very aware of his walking. He spends most of the time at the Winter Palace fighting to stay upright and look comfortable.
