It’s been ten years since I’ve been home for Christmas. So long that no matter where I am, I can never go back, because that place, that time, no longer, and can never exist again. Christmas is little more to me now than an unfortunate reminder, and for anyone else out there who has been forced to associate the holiday season with grief and with loss, then to you I would say, it’s okay, your best is enough. It’s okay to be a little selfish, a little stubborn, a little quiet, and a little jealous. You’re not alone. You’re not wrong for feeling it. Maybe you’re not happy, and maybe you can’t fake it. However you cope, it’s alright. You don’t have to pretend to be okay for everyone else’s sake. Find your comfort, whatever it is, and take your time. It will pass. It never gets better. But it will get different, again.

"Atya” pronounced / ah-tee-uh / or “Ata”, are the elven words for father. For dragons, bonds between parents and their younglings exist mostly in feeling and the unspoken. Taryn and Zehel rarely address each other by any name, and their shared connection is primarily silent. It’s a bond Taryn has long missed having assimilated to Yehl’s elven nature, and which he deeply cherishes having been returned to him with his son.
