omfg people really need to calm the fuck down about people disliking some characters like it's not always a deep seated prejudice or an inability to empathise it's because we are human beings with our own experiences and normal biases and fictional characters are not real and it doesn't matter if you don't like them for pretty much any reason at all and doesn't make you suddenly x just because the character is y it just means you don't like them. obviously other indications of actual prejudice or a repeated pattern mean something else entirely but you can just dislike a character because get this they're a character and not a real person. you can dislike real people too even it's almost like we've got free will. please oh please can we get out of the torture chamber together.

I have 2 thoughts on if Ace was a gem…

1. Pearl - now hear me out! Pearls are tall & thin, and have a pointy nose ofc. But Pearls are also known for being very elegant and orderly…does not sound like Ace in the slightest does it. Well, he’s a rebel/defective pearl, he hates all that shit! He’s the polar opposite of the “ideal” pearl. As a result he was deemed defective & insubordinate, intended on being shattered but is in hiding with the rest of the gang (like the off colors)

2. Zircon - Overall they actually REALLY have the strongest visual similarities; long nose tall slim build etc. Their clothes practically have the same silhouette. My reasoning for him being a rebel pearl would basically be the same for a zircon aside from a few details; zircons are clearly very law-oriented. They’re literally the lawyers of home world. Ace is entirely anti-authority, rebellious and loud. Hates all that same kinda shit. However, Zircons also have a tendency to be dramatic, and in the case of the defense lawyer zircon, scrambles to explain or defend themselves; even if the defense they come up with is….not good (blue zircon’s accusation…ace’s “wait wait I can explain-!”). Well... Banner thoughts

1. Black Knight/Zelgius is absolutely perfect. I laughed at his “accosted by children” line and also just love that he’s CHRISTMAS-themed.

2. Dorothea...

Ok look... I very very very VERY rarely use this word because it’s either misused as all hell, or people are making an exaggeration over it.

But... I genuinely think IS is being sexist with Dorothea. In a way that’s so hurtfully ironic to her character. I hate using the word “sexist” because she’s NOT REAL, I get that, but like I honestly don’t know how else to go about it. Dorothea hasn’t even been included as a base alt in this game; She’s so far had the most alts out of any character without actually being in the game. And that’s not a BAD thing. But... Look at all her alts: Summer swimsuit alt, Plegian alt with skimpy clothing, and now her Christmas alt with a SUPER low-cut top and fishnet stockings. Like wasn’t the whole point of Dorothea’s character that she was seen as a low-class nobody who only gained value for her voice and her body? And all IS keeps doing is giving her more sexy alts BEFORE EVEN GIVING HER A BASE UNIT IN THE GAME?

And ok, let me absolutely clarify: These are just lines at the end of the day. It’s just a drawing. In the long run, I don’t give a shit and it doesn’t affect me. But in the short run... Fuck, I wish they’d be a little more balanced and less blatant with who their fan-service is for. Oh, also STOP MAKING THE THREE HOUSES UNITS MANDATORY ADDITIONS TO THE CHRISTMAS BANNER.

... But you are also a Three Houses character and the fact that both you AND Dorothea are on this banner means that you’re killing the banner diversity.

4. Cordelia and Selena.

HRGHHHHHH.... Really mixed on this one.

On the one hand, it’s... really weird that they’re going “Haha look, it’s a Harmonic Hero” when no. It’s not. Shuddup. Also hell, could they not have made Selena the main unit? This is her “first” alt in the game (but really no it isn’t, the Easter alt is), and they decided to make Cordelia ANOTHER alt primarily. Also right on the heels of her Fates alt being added? Really? So now we have Regular Cordelia, Bridal Cordelia, Summer Cordelia, Resplendent Cordelia, Caeldori, and finally this Christmas one. Yaaaay.

But on the other hand, it’s sweet that Cordelia and Severa are finally in a Duo Heroes together. So I’ll let it slide.

5. Bruno.

Augh... I haven’t seen the art yet but Bruno is slowly stepping into Dorothea’s territory, just in the male version of it. IS, please just give us Bruno as a Legendary Hero for the next banner. Please don’t make him like Dorothea where all we’re getting is man-tiddy. Like... Do as much fan-service as you want AFTER their base unit gets added, but consider adding him first. Also maybe do the cool thing you did with Conrad where his mask is off when you check his profile.

Actually, I kind of hope he has his mask off for this banner.

All in all, I honestly hate to say it but this Christmas banner is a pass for me. I might try to free Summon for Black Knight but that’s it.

TBH I think there’s a difference between being okay with negative consequences and actually masterminding those things to happen. One of the things I find most interesting about Dumbledore is how often he falls under the first category (since fandom often seems to put him in the second).

Dumbledore is more aware than most characters that this world is a dangerous one and there are consequences for one’s actions. I’d argue that most of his “manipulation” is less “you must endure XYZ because it is a step in my masterplan” and more “I’m aiming for this very specific endgame and if you have decided to join me, these are the risks and I’m sorry but you might endure them because that’s the cost of the plan. Are you still with me?”

So no, I really don’t see him as sending Snape to his death any more than any of the Order members who died for the cause, like say, Moody. As far as I know, he only plans three deaths: his own, Harry’s, and Voldemort’s, with Voldemort’s death being his endgame. Being willing to let others die for your plan is different than actually purposefully sending someone to their death because it furthers your plan.

(re: the manipulation post, I’m mostly interested in the buy-in, because people don’t seem to defect after joining up except for the one case of Wormtail, who never seems to have bought in in the first place, though granted we don’t actually have much info on that. Like, how do people come to be loyal to Dumbledore and his interpretation of what’s right? There are no factions in the resistance or competing versions of “how do we resist,” which is kinda laughable, all things considered.

The most obvious explanation is unfortunately Doylist (HP is not a very good depiction of resistance movements because the author didn’t really study how they work, and the black hats/white hats mentality is so strong that it’s never really in question if Dumbledore is “good,” just if he’s actually benevolent or not) and when it boils down to it, I don’t think Dumbledore is all that effectively written as a person who wins over hearts because it’s mostly done with “haha cool whimsical fun guy that Fights Bullies and also Wizard Evils.”

I think (as written) people ally with Dumbledore against Voldemort et. al., not because of anything Dumbledore actually does (except for being powerful, competent, and intimidating, I guess), but because he’s written as the only alternative to Voldemort. Literally. Everyone else is too incompetent to resist Voldemort, or they’re 100% loyal to Dumbledore because he’s a Good Guy who’s the Only One Powerful and Smart Enough to Save Us and would never dream of having a different idea of how things should be done).
