I need someone to have the same feeling about Paul that I do. Firstly, PAUL??? REALLY?!! Secondly, Paul is such a tragedy to me. They are the pinochle of codependency, a shameless act of having no identity beyond Cam and Pal. The sick joy they get from being themselves is both beautiful and sad. They’ll never get to see the other grow separately and neither will we. They’ll never get beyond the need of having the other because they’ve fused themselves in such a twisted way. They set alight the old versions of themselves to be joined in the closest way possible. Third, Cam and Pal were reminiscent of the Greek idea of soulmates, but they fused themselves back together. The problem with the Greek idea of soulmates is that it meant humans were always half of a whole which is fundamentally different than how we need to view ourselves now. It is unhealthy to view yourself as a half and Cam and Pal saw themselves as half of a whole. Fourth, PAUL?????!!!

like one of the things that makes me love them so much is the world building implications of their existence.

Because we know that the emperor's lyctors did not achieve perfect lyctorhood, they essentially did a shortcut that functions but is not ideal, like fixing something broken with scotch tape versus soldering, with john and alecto's lyctorhood being the soldering in this metaphor.

But Paul begs the question, is soldering really perfect lyctorhood, or is perfect lyctorhood taking the broken pieces, melting them down, and reforging them altogether? Which is more perfect?

Is it more perfect to become one entity or to tether two together? Did Pal and Cam achieve a lyctorhood more perfect than god's?
