Gli Azzurri | Part 4 | Massive Summer Turnover
#FM24 #GliAzzurri Part 4: Massive Summer Turnover. 50 players depart #EmpoliFC and 14 arrive in their place as we heavily rebuild for season 2 in #SerieA. And we make a bright start with some big scalps along the way. Read here:
Empoli FC enjoyed a season of overachievement in our first season of the Football Manager 2024 Beta, as we led them to an 11th-place finish. Those achievements were all the more impressive considering most of our squad was considered Serie B players, and most of them were on loan. That meant we had a lot of work to do in our first full summer in charge. It began by releasing 30 players, who were…

The day then concluded in the Oeiras 1 Challenger between Paul Jubb, who finally came back after being sidelined throughout most parts of 2023 (due to injury) and defeated Nicolas Alvarez Varona (who also entered using the protected ranking) 7-5, 6-2, and second seed Joao Sousa, who defeated qualifier Samuel Vincent Ruggeri 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. While this could be an interesting test to P. Jubb's comeback after his ITFs appearances to close last season, this could also test how intense J. Sousa can be on his day.
Right at the first point, J. Sousa already showed his aggression through a tidy point construction finished with a forehand winner, although P. Jubb ended the game by holding his service game 1-1. This was followed by the latter's chances, one of which came from a forehand passing shot to secure one of his four break points of that game, but it did not came through as an unforced error foiled it for J. Sousa to hold 1-1.
Several games later, in the eighth game, P. Jubb also had another chance, this time when his final volley got J. Sousa attempt an on-the-run forehand response, which turned out to be executed too wide. The latter then ended up holding his service game 4-4, and the set did not settle until four consecutive holds later during the tie-breaker. There, P. Jubb missed his backhand to start the tie-breaker (1-0), with J. Sousa solidifying his position to 3-0 in 2 points. However, P. Jubb tried to catch up with his backhand winner to minimize the gap (3-2) before a forehand pass on return equalized the score (3-3).
J. Sousa's service game carried a lot of the tie-breaker moments, including creating his first set point (6-5). A failed volley, even though the previous defensive position was all correct, resulted in the saving of the said set point before P. Jubb's double fault once again generated J. Sousa's set point. The Portuguese second seed did not waste any moment, firing an unreturned serve to take the first set 7-6(6) straight away, coming in a clutch under pressure to assert control by the end of the set.

New Podcast Bite Club Features Children’s Favorite Snacks & Treats
Tumblr media
BuzzFeed and Acast have announced the first offering of the slate of six podcasts from BuzzFeed Studios. The first podcast, Bite Club, presented by Tasty, will premiere on April 18 hosted by Jasmine Pak and Katie Aubin of Tasty.
Bite Club is a conversation show about the snacks, treats, and bites that make us who we are, from childhood favorites to today’s trendiest treats, and everything in between.
Each week, friends Jasmine Pak and Katie Aubin put together a definitive food-oriented List of the Week, laying their hottest takes on the table on subjects like first date meals, dinner party desserts, movie snacks (that are not popcorn), and more. Listeners will get to hear our foodie hosts and their occasional special guests hash it out on the mic and debate the superiority of one bite to another in real time. This podcast is already making me hungry for a snack! "Food brings people together — tapping into the traditions and culture we share with one another and sparking the type of engaging conversation that podcasting serves so well," said Tim Ruggeri, Director of Development and Studios at Acast. "We look forward to bringing Bite Club to every podcast platform and listening app out there so that it's accessible for communities everywhere." “We’re thrilled to kick off our new slate of podcasts in partnership with Acast, and we couldn’t be more excited that our inaugural series will dive into the delicious world of Tasty,” said Paul Ricci, head of unscripted for BuzzFeed Studios. “With a diverse lineup of programming on the horizon, this is the first taste of what we have in store — and we can’t wait for audiences to join us.” Acast will make Bite Club widely accessible to listeners by distributing it across all podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, and wherever else audiences get their podcasts. BuzzFeed and Acast also announced that the second podcast on their slate will launch in the coming months, from the world of BuzzFeed Unsolved. The podcast will feature conversations about unexplained phenomena, unsolved mysteries, and conspiracy theories, all broken down from the unique perspective of its hosts. The slate from BuzzFeed Studios will introduce six weekly podcasts with diverse programming and talent from BuzzFeed's global brands and fan-favorite franchises. The podcasts will span a variety of genres and topic areas — covering news, culture, and entertainment — and will celebrate diverse identities and themes for Gen Z and Millennial audiences. Under the partnership, Acast will launch and distribute the podcasts, provide production services and creative direction, and manage monetization of the slate through advanced advertising and sponsorship technology. BuzzFeed’s podcast programming will offer new audio content to its engaged audience, which reaches more than 520 million people worldwide each month.

He knew it was coming.
In one of his psychology classes while still competing for Team USA, Paul Ruggeri had written a research paper about post-retirement depression in professional and elite athletes. He found that after years of defining their success through sports, retiring pro athletes often find the sudden void left by preparation and competition difficult to fill.
Months later, Ruggeri would be no exception.
“There was truly nobody there to catch me when I fell. I was completely by myself. I didn’t know what to do with myself.”
Ruggeri has learned a lot since retiring from gymnastics competition. As an elite athlete, he’d woken up every day for years with someone telling him what to eat, how to work out, when to go to bed, and everything in between. He was used to having other people take control of his life.
That led to him seeking that out in other people, he says, following other people’s lead, letting them take control of his life.
