PedalPCB Deflector reverb which I believe is based on the EQD Afterneath. Only had a quick play with it but immediately dialled in some great ambient, trippy swells that sound really unique in terms of reverb. The controls seem really interactive and tbh I’m not sure what they all do at this point so will be fun to have a proper play with it but early signs are very promising!  Etched with NaOH and sprayed black and holosparkle then clear coated.

PedalPCB Builds (Distortion 250 + Tommy)

The first kit I got was a BYOC 5 Knob Compressor in I think 2018 (need confirmation). [This has been out of stock for a bit]

In June/July 2019 I got more into building and DIY'ing pedals, as in sourcing parts and building my arsenal of tools. I've definitely spent enough to buy some nice effects, a new guitar, or a nicer amp. But yeah, I have like twice as many pedals as I had before (I'm at like twenty-something boxed, a good amount of boards working, troubleshooting, or not functional).

The pictures are the two PedalPCB builds I did; DOD 250 and Timmy (Distortion 250 and Tommy). The Timmy clone took me I think two tries... I messed up and got the wrong switch and tried mounting it, then tried mounting a solder lug version of the right switch to the PCB.

I think that could work if: (1) you just need to watch out on how much solder you use, some can get under the lugs and PCB and the part will be stuck or really hard to remove; (2) if you just offboard wire it.

I sourced the enclosures, knobs, jacks, switches, knobs, and other outer pieces from LoveMySwitches (formerly BitchesLoveMySwitches; I think the guy had some stickers leftover and are on their site).

I forget the gauge of wire I had there, but I originally got a lot of my supplies (solder, wire, tools, etc.) from Amazon. Quality really jumps around with those orders. Looking back I won't get wire from them again, it felt like cheap clay and the wire was really malleable. A lot of my early builds I made for myself used that. I might make a separate post on individual tools such as wire.

The Timmy clone used the PCB and a breakout 3PDT board. I don't have a picture of the guys on my phone sadly, but I think I soldered breakout to the lugs of a solder lug 3PDT.

I liked the Timmy Clone more than the 250 clone

Parentheses Fuzz #5

I think this is #5 I’m losing count. These are so much fun to play the world needs a couple more! I used matte black sand textured enclosure. Which give this a good industrial vibe.

This is a pretty easy build for what you get. The board is a good size and parts are comfortably spaced. All of the pots are mounted to the board making wiring easy. The switches require some work but the pads are well organized.

The only down side is finding FETs and Ge diodes. Luckily D1 and D2 can be replaced by just about any type of type. D7, D8, and D9 could also be any type but Ge will have a noticeable sound to them. Ge diodes here will have a particular sound, not better or worse. If you’re looking for “that” sound you might stick with Ge for these. Otherwise test out any type of diode and use your ears to decide what sounds good here.

The main distortion circuit is based on the LM308 op-amp which are hard to get and can cost $5 or more, that’s a lot for an op-amp. Luckily the part is not critical. You can a few replacements. I used an OP07 which was $0.50 at Tayda.

The PF5102 FETs are hard to get. I used J112 from Tayda successfully.

Lastest one done is a PedalPCB Thermionic Deluxe based on the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe.

This has all the hallmarks of being my main OD/distortion, great balance of hot rodded Marshall type tones with enough tonal flexibility to dial it in perfectly.

Sprayed and glitter coated over a clear adhesive decal, looks quite striking!
