EnpitsuP Jumbo WIP
Tumblr media
Currently testing a blunted jumbo pencil.
Tentative name: EnpitsuP Jumbo
I'm trying to incorporate some of the useful aspects of a jumbo Staedler pencil I recently got.
Surprisingly, the bigger pencils have a super noticeable taper to them but I'm not sure how/if I want to add it in digital form. (ie, what combination of pressure and tilt I want it to respond against and what the curves are)

god i feel u so much on the not being able to use fancy detail brushes thing, i also use a textured brush (idk abt you but it stops me from obsessing over the lines being 100% Absolutely Perfectly Neat & Even) and i cry every time i see a cool brush that would just look totally out of place in comparison lmao. i keep telling myself someday ill make a whole bunch of custom ones that match my main brush... someday.....
I REALLY THINK THAT'S JUST WHAT WE GOTTA DO.... i do feel like by slowly playing w other ppl's custom brushes (i have to really recommend @robogart, @inspiderwiht and @pharanbrush as artists who create custom brush packs that i REALLY love!), i'm starting to understand very gradually what all the different settings and tweaks and adjustments do, which helps a lot + does make me feel like eventually i can work my way up to tackling my own...!
when i first started out the brush settings panel was SO overwhelming, so it felt like any time i downloaded a brush it was like. either i like it or i don't, and one tiny gripe abt it could ruin my experience w a brush that could otherwise be super useful and fun for me!! bc i didn't really feel capable of really getting into the guts of it and fucking around (also esp when u are on deadlines and stuff it's like. bro i cannot afford to Find Out rn and also i simply do not have time to spend an hour trying to figure out if i can make the pressure curve on this thing play nice w me). BUT giving myself a little bit of time whenever i'm doing personal doodling or warmups or w/e to experiment and mess around has been really really good for making me feel like i can take more control over the tools :D
I GUESS i am rambling majorly and a lot of this has nothing to do w the actual point of ur ask (esp the kind of. stamp brushes or fully drawn stuff like clothing trim/buttons/etc where it really IS like okay either it can blend w ur art style or it can't) BUT my point is just. grips ur arm in solidarity. by fucking around a tiny bit each day. one day we will understand digital brush composition + function enough to make our own. and then it's over for all of you bitches

I'm almost certain that this has been asked before, but what brushes do you use?
I use a bunch of brushes I found on CSP asset store, or found online for free, or bought from creators. Lemme see if I can share some that I use most frequently...
Also pretty much anything from DAUB CSP brushes, FRENDEN's Brushpack, Jingsketch, Porforever, VAMPBYTE, PharanBrush, saturns_day (on csp assets) is a great pick-up.
I'm a brush hoarder but those are some of my go-to's that work with my current drawing and painting process.

im just curious (u dont need to answer / publish if u dont want to !) but do you sketch with a brush called analog pencil on csp.... the texture looks so similar to the brush i use and im trying to add more looseness to my lines so i was just wondering if it was the Same...
oh nope! i pretty much exclusively use my friend @pharanbrush brushes for csp these days, the one i use is enpitsu-p, its a replicated mechanical pencil! mine is kinda customized with how i like the pressure but its not far off from the default settings
u can buy em here >> https://pharan.gumroad.com/l/EnpitsuP?layout=profile
i rly reccommend them, pharan works rly hard on these brushes

Amber's Art Resource Compilation (The Return!)
Once upon a time, I used to regularly share link collections of helpful art resources here that I would stumble across on my various feeds and timelines, both to keep track of them for myself for later reference, and to share them with others who also might find these resources useful or interesting. And considering how many websites most folks are spread across nowadays? It seems like as good a time as any for me to start doing this again! Feel free to share and reblog to whoever you think will benefit!
(I would recommend that if there's any links that you find particularly helpful, perhaps save the image or video to your computer for safekeeping. I have no idea how long Twitter links will work because of obvious site shenanigans, even with Nitter as a workaround...)

Yooo, that picture with Donnie and Leo hugging is awesome and heartwarming :0 But I've a question. How did you do that sparkly scale texture on their skin? It looks so pretty!
Aww thank you!! :D
A lot of the time, its a mixture of trying different brushes for textures, flipping through layer filters and colours. I'll try and show my process, but apologies if its not so clear! (Also just so u know, I use CSP! :])
I try to find a speckle-like brush! This one is called "Wall Tzu SP hard" which is from a brush pack i bought from PharanBrush, but you can use any sort of speckle brush, i just like this one especially (good for freckles, too!)
I used a really bright blue and dappled in the areas that I wanted the sparkles to show.
Tumblr media
Set the layer to glow dodge (sometimes colour dodge is good too!) and lower the opacity (I put it to 48% but again, you can play about with this at any stage)
Tumblr media
Next, I pretty much do the same in a new layer below the last, but used the darker colour of the base skin and faintly go in similar spots as before. I set that layer to multiply and lower the opacity to anything between 20% and 40%.
Tumblr media
I just think it kinda defines the shinies a bit more!
Tumblr media
In a similar colour to the blue I used for the sparkles, I lightly use airbrush on a new layer. Kinda helps with the form and make him more shiny. (I keep this on 100% opacity because I am very light-handed with it, but you can lower it if need be)
Tumblr media
And lastly, if you want more texture and you have a dot grid tone brush, make a new layer and colour pick random parts of the shiny areas. I don't really know how to explain this, I just do whatever til it looks good PFF! (Might be a less is more scenario)
Tumblr media
annnd yeah! :D This is just how I did these specific textures, its lots of layering and tbh you can add even more with different opacity. You also don't need to use the exact same colours as me, I usually try different hues to figure out what looks best, literally go ham!
HOPE THAT MAYBE HELPED? I do not know how to do these little tutorial ask things BWHAHAHA but if theres anything else you want to know, feel free and I'll try my best to answer!

I know your art is more traditional work atm, but have you ever used/heard of true grit texture supply and do u think they look like good digital art packs?
yes i have heard of them!! they seem to be pretty repuatable. You know when i got this ask i was so certain that i had bought from them that I started looking through my files to see which packs i had before realizing i mixed them up with retrosupplyco, (another texture/vintage themed company, i have the riso pack and the photocopy hate machine, which i both like fine, but dont really stand out too much..) which i do pretty often. But, i have been eying the krafttone set that true grit does so I bought it, and i’ll let you know my review in a little while.
From their website, they seem quite proud of their sets. My biggest worry about ‘big’ brushmakers like this is when they try to make brushes for as many programs as possible, they sometimes don’t use the brush engines very well in their haste to get it out. While she’s gotten better, byvegalia’s packs for example, when they were first made they really did not function on csp even close to how they did on procreate, because she wasn’t familar with the brush engine. Its not a horrible problem, just something i tend to notice with brushmakers who make for many softwares.
There is something very impressive about the size of their packs, 130 brushes in the inker one is pretty intense… the only other brushmakers i tend to see which such large size packs (for csp, at least.) are frenden and pharanbrush.. where even if you just buy one pack you certinly get more than enough to find something you like!
a few things i noticed is 1) a satisfaction gurentee/return policy? which is strange because you dont tend to see those on digital goods, and it only applies to some of their products? which is odd to me, but could be a positive. 2) When you buy, you get a limited amount of downloads (25) which is understandable due to the epidemic of filesharing, but is just something to know. and 3) they have a freebie pack! you have to sign up for an email list, but i’ve tried it and its fairly good. Worth trying out, at least.
i’ll let you know about krafttone in a little while. thanks for asking me, i love talking abt this stuff

What is your fav digital brush to draw?
I got more than one and thanks to the peeps who commissioned me in the past, I managed to have more of a footing to experiment with paid brushes! 🙏❤️
I'm very fickle and prone to changes, so it might not be the same next time but here are what I'm obsessed with so far!
On Procreate, my favorite brushes would be the sample set from TrueGrit Texture Supply for their halftone and texture brushes (which I did pay a $15 license later on so I can use for commercial works), and these free-to-download sets in Gumroad.
I used the latter religiously throughout the years for sketching and inking, as it was what got me dedicated to continue using procreate!
On Clip Studio, I really like this [Free] set because for something that looks like a basic brush, it is as smooth as butter! 🧈
The second brush is my favorite to do typography and sound fx in comics. I love the expressiveness and gritty texture.
Both, you've mainly seen in my use for my YBF arts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one below is worth 10 Clippy, and I love how clean and gritty it is! You've seen me using this in more recent Broken Colors arts.
Tumblr media
I also have some favorites from here [PAID]:
For the price, you get a lot more for your money! These two are a favorite from there, and I'm a big fan of the pencils!
Tumblr media
Hope that answers your question and have a good one! 🌞

Hey, I was wondering if you have a brush recommendation for CSP brushes for Lineart with good line weight? I'm trying to improve the weight of my lines, but I'm having a hard time finding brushes with the flexibility I'm looking for
That's a good question. There are all sorts of ways line weight is used and the right brush is different for each genre and style of drawing, I'd say.
To start: A lot of my lineart brushes are adjusted with slightly LESS brush size dynamics because I always felt like the original default CSP brushes (like the Mapping Pen and G-Pen) gave an unrealistic and uncontrollable amount just based on the their pressure settings.
Some people do use them well for specific styles, so they're not inherently bad. But I definitely think they're not friendly to beginners or people who just wanna pick up a pen and go draw rather than obsess over the precise way they're pushing down on their pen.
Tumblr media
More recent versions of Clip Studio Paint actually came with some new default brushes, including "Real G-Pen", which had pressure settings that felt more right to me. But it's a little noisy so its uses are a bit more specific.
I have a brush set included with EnpitsuP called Superclean Linework. Those are the ones I designed as cleanup brushes for anime-ish looking art. They come in several flavors: Densy, Softie, Smoothy, Sang. I varied them based on how I saw different artists preferred their lines: a bit on the sharp side? Slightly blurry? With a little bit of opacity fade? A little more line variation? Among these, Sang has the largest amount of size response.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, it may be a little bit of both a subjective experience and depend on what your hand/tablet/driver settings/style preferences are like. If you're having trouble finding a brush for this purpose, I think you should hone in on if you're not finding the right brush because every brush seemed too difficult to control, or you can't seem to get results you like, or you can't find one with a feel that matches the physical tool you're used to.
I think it's also worth noting that some artist's styles also rely a lot on them just changing their brush size setting depending on what part they're drawing. So you may end up needing a brush that has less pressure-size variation than you expect. My recommendation is always to look very closely when learning from someone else's linework example. Try to achieve it yourself side-by-side and see where it doesn't quite match up and ask yourself why. Or ask others why.
Of course, there are a bunch of other "lineweighty" brushes too outside of this genre of mostly-thin lineart.

(oc Nera belongs to @/erojiji3)
I've been studying limited-tone colors and shadows and figured Leif was a good tool to use. But it wasn't doing what I needed it to do, or even what I imagined I originally wanted it to do, so I decided to make a few new brushes, as the new Leif set. (retiring most of the original ones in the process)
Currently just calling the new set Leif 2.
The new brushes, named "Leif Paint" (with variations on its shape) have been coming along nicely.
Yesterday, I drew this thing and was enjoying how the brushes were working for it.
Its primary purpose, making dabs of paint look leafy and generically brushy and nice, is definitely already there.
Tumblr media
As a paint-sketch and finalized painting tool, especially for shaping shadows, I think I still need to test some more but results have been promising so far.
I also made a separate drawing version of Leif Paint that may just end up in the EnpitsuP set. I guess it should just be included in the main Leif set too.

Hi !! I wanted to say your latest Joan and Whitney portraits r gorgeous ;o; I adore your style n ocs so much,, I wanted to ask what brushes u used for those also? the drawings look So soft (also like, what art program do u use? : -O) Thank you, !!
Hello! Yes, I would be glad to share! Thank you so much for the kind words
To answer your questions: Clip Studio Paint is my main art program
I only used two brushes for the portraits, one is a default brush that came with my install of Clip Studio (Design Pencil) and the other is from the BōrupenP brush pack created by PharanBrush
Design Pencil Link
BōrupenP Link (Specifically I used the Gel NibP brush from this free pack!)
Hope that helps!
