Released November 23, 1999, Third Eye Blind's "Blue" cracked, slid, and blasted into the ears of fans and new listeners alike, selling 1.25 million by 2003. "Blue" undoubtedly showcased the musical progression of the genre-bending rock act and incredible vocal versatility of frontman Stephan Jenkins, but sales paled in comparison to their 6x Platinum self-titled record released only 2 years earlier.
Hooky, lyrically poignant, and encompassing of the emotional-but-not-sure-why haze of the 1990s, "Blue" is severely underrated in sales but some accolades would follow. Although "Blue" largely seemed to have missed the mark with the public, Third Eye Blind breaks the mold of alternative rock and skates from sub-genre to sub-genre, with generous hooks that stick in your head for hours. It has a sprinkle of everything that came before it- serious and comedic lyrical moments, poppy British rock roots, punk-inspired screams, hair metal vocal twang, and indie oohs and aahs- the merit of this record is that anyone who cares to listen to the whole thing can enjoy something on it, even if the previous song wasn't their style. In a 1998 interview with Rolling Stone, when asked about their newest work, "Blue" (unreleased at the time), vocalist Stephan Jenkins said, "If you do a bong hit, put on your headphones and listen to our album, you’ll get it."
The album reached RIAA (US) Platinum status and was relatively well reviewed by critics, with Spin Magazine giving a 6/10 and Rolling Stone giving a 3/5. Between 1999 and 2000, the band was nominated for several US music awards and won 4 California Music Awards.

Released March 1, 1993 "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" plastered The Cranberries onto the stucco masterpiece that was alternative rock in the 90s. After 4 EPs, their debut album catapulted the Irish rock quartet into the international scene, spending 130 weeks on the US charts (peaking at #18 on Billboard 200) and by 1995 being declared the 50th best-selling album in Australia. Today it is certified 5x Platinum (over 5 million sales) by the RIAA (US), 2x Platinum by the BPI (UK) and Platinum in Australia and Canada. This record brought The Cranberries an opportunity to tour the US for the first time supporting acts such as Duran Duran and Belly, as well as headlining many shows themselves. Aside from the exposure of playing over 90 shows in 1993, The Cranberries would also enjoy commercial success due to heavy MTV airtime with their videos for "Dreams" and "Linger." "Dreams" would later appear in 9 motion pictures throughout the 1990s. Images 1-3 scanned from the CD insert. Image 4 is an original concept cover for "Dreams."
