I suddenly wanted to listen to this song for the first time in ages, and it took on a whole new meaning for me. The members and I were 12-14 when the song came out, and in our teens/twenties last I listened to it. So much has happened for all of us between now and then. They've moved on to individual careers and lives– half are married, several are mothers, and I've moved to Japan and back. I'm struck yet again by just how amazing it was to have grown up together with Berryz. In honor of that, here's a translation.

あかやあかしやあやかしの Parallel Text Project

Hello and welcome to my newest, definitely not over-ambitious project – a parallel text for Akaya Akashiya Ayakashino (Of the Red, the Lights, and the Akayashi), a visual novel by HaccaWorks that was released for the PSP in 2010. Only the manga was ever released in English but I have never read it, so any discrepancies in terminology is for that reason.

AkaAka is a story about the supernatural - a boy raised by spirits in a shrine meets two mysterious boys at a festival and later is told to pick one to be his “Meal”.

Here’s a little demo of the parallel text with the game’s summary, using a tool from a very handy site @rigelmejo​ told me about + importing it to MS Word so I could add furigana for the non-standard readings.

All translations are my own, for better or worse (lol). I’ll likely use this blog to track its progress, but I probably won’t post it to the public partly because of formatting. If you want to read it, just drop me a message!

Still from the same anon requested Kobushi's 1st album translation. Meikatsudon's tumblr haven't yet worked on Kobushi no Hana and Kenmei Blues. The Kobushi no Hana is found at ProjectHello lyrics site, though. So Kenmei Blues is the only one untranslated and I couldn't find it anywhere...

nac (and I am so sorry I swear I googled but nothing comes up and I don't have an H!O account): does anybody know what happened to kiwi-musume? I know she hasn't updated in years but now her site's been pulled down and she basically had THE definitive momusu translation archive (stuff missing from projecthello and/or redfreesias03 which are my other go-to's)

Probably just not a fan anymore. Not uncommon.

Even though I'm a BIIIG BK fan and I had a special place in my heart for Towa no Uta, somehow I hadn't been able to appreciate it in all its heartwarmingness until I read projecthello's translation of the lyrics today. I knew that the subtitles management puts in the videos they upload are sloppy and don't convey everything the songs actually mean but woah... And I had never noticed projecthello's translation 'cuz I assumed they stopped after the subs started. The lyrics are so beautiful really.

NAC: feel free to delete if it’s not relevant but I don’t have a tumblr so I’m asking mods or any tumblr users who might know: anyone know what’s up with redfreesias03? That site went from posting everyday to a complete stop despite saying the cutoff date is June? also: what’s another good place for song translations if projecthello doesn't have it?

I’m not sure about redfreesias03, but if you want translations of older songs, you can try kiwi-musume. Another website I use is colorcodedlyrics but I think they mostly took translations from the YouTube videos directly. Does anyone have any other recommendations?
