What all is there to do at quiltcon? There’s the main exhibit, and you can purchase lectures and workshops, but is there anything else? An artist alley equivalent?

"Geese Study No 2" 2018 by Heather Kinion

All three of the stacked blue triangles are created with dense hand quilting stitches, but the middle triangle has a doubled layer of cotton batting, and the bottom triangle has a doubled layer of cotton batting with the additional layer being made of cotton that has been dyed black.

One photo shows both the front and some of the back of the quilt at the same time.

This quilt was exhibited at Quiltcon in 2019.

June Saturday Sew Day - Show & Tell Wrap Up

Sharon showed us some curved quilts she has been working on, including the tree block and top she made during an online workshop with Brenda Gael Smith.

Ros completed the quilting on a cute charity quilt and quilted bag.

Fiona M showed her quilted "Always Was" bag and flower quilt she made for her granddaughter Savvy.

Jess K brought her baby sausage dog Lorraine for pats, but she slept the whole time!

Sharon set us the next Mini Modern Challenge - Improvisation. Please contact Sharon directly if you would like to join the Mini Modern Challenge and weren't at the meeting. The Challenge tops will be due at the September meeting, and members who enter will go in the draw to win a Berry Quilt & Co voucher!

Sharon also brought posters of all the QuiltCon Best of Show winners, so that we could discuss the different QuiltCon categories and learn more about the qualities that make a quilt modern.

All in all, a wonderful day of learning and sewing with friends!

The next Sew Days will be Friday 14th July and Saturday 15th July.

A little late, but last week had me feeling a bit nostalgic. As we prepared for our weekend trip, I was reminded that I was with my partner when he first attended The Woodwright School, and now I would be joining him on his last trip there. So this week's mini is made up of four quilt squares I made way back but never did anything with. They were part of my 100 blocks in 100 days work-through of City Sampler. I still have a huge tin of unused blocks that I am now thinking about what I want to do with them, so they might pop up over time. I loved all these fabrics. I picked all of them up at QuiltCon Savannah, and some of them, I wish I could still lay hands on. I am a sucker for gold in fabric

I really hate how the machine binding turned out this time. I thought I had been making good progress, and then this one just kind of sucked. Oh well. It's a learning process, and sometimes you stumble whe you learn, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm pretty sure I know what all went wrong, so I will just have to try again next week.

A question within myself. What is the difference between Quilting and Sashiko? Toward #QuiltCon2020, I am spending as much time as possible learning the Quilting. ☆ Quilting and Sashiko have a lot of similarities. “How to enjoy fabric” is a universal language in between Quilting & Sashiko. One (possible) significant difference will be that quilters have a specific design as their blueprint. They have a destination when they start the project - very beautiful design and theme. They cut fabric nicely and beautifully, then stitch together. (Forgive me if my understanding of quilting is incorrect.) ☆ Sashiko also requires a process of cutting fabric, of course. However, including myself, many Sashiko artisans prefer, “Not-cutting-the-fabric” process. If there is a choice, I prefer using the fabric as is. Some of the Boro we make, we try to use the fabric as is - with less cutting the fabric. It is difficult to explain logically, it is more like a feeling. Again, it is not about good or bad. The quilting I find is so beautiful, and I will enjoy the Quiltcon. I waited until this little gift was exchanged #quiltcon by @endearme! I quilted the little flowers in a little pink #glidethread and the rest in white. If you look at the last photo you can see how I marked the pattern for quilting. I stopped on the diagonal line and did each little flower before moving to the next line. Continuous! I think you will see more of this little lady in the future! #paperpieced I know you will see more from my BF @endearme! Follow her if you don’t already!
