Hi! So i was in your web weaving tag and i would i saw the courtly love with Anne and Henry one .Would you like to elaborate more on this idea that Henry idealized Anne ?.

Sure, although I think I'm going to either add to this or reblog it and add to it later, as regards the first. In the meantime, this book has some interesting quotes about their dynamic. And also, I'll very quickly note, for now, that not only does it seem Anne was very familiar with these translations of these texts, but also with their reinterpretation(s):

"Claude herself was educated by a team of women. One of her ladies-in-waiting, Anne de Graville, a noted proto-feminist, rewrote classic texts by men, recasting women as individuals with the right to govern their own lives, to object to philandering husbands, even to marry the man of their choice. Among the rewrites she did for Claude while Anne [Boleyn] was in her service was the fifteenth-century Alain Chartier's classic poem on courtly love, La belle dame sans merci, in which the lady refuses to yield." So, it's possible that as HVIII&AB are in their courtly love stage, this is part of 'la parrole' he speaks of-- there's one particular letter which seems like she's rejected his offer to be her 'servant' with a dose of realism: he's the king, she can only ever be his servant. One assumes she's not rejecting his company here but more establishing boundaries thereof.

For the second, the actress is Marleen Lohse, she's great.

Here's a thought experiment I'd like to share with my fellow Green Beans. Can you (or any of your mutuals and followers) come up with a suitable punishment for Lucerys after he permanently mutilated/disabled Aemond? I'm curious to see just how many viable options Viserys could've chosen that didn't result in further maiming or death. Let's get creative!

So, I've seen a lot of people discuss various punishments for him and some were really really gory, like I've seen people froth at the mouth for his actual death and/or the possibility of maiming him as well.

This is actually more complicated than some would think. There is a lot to unpack here, the most important thing is that both of them were children. I blame everyone and no one in particular (except the twins. No one touches my twins). Luke did what he thought was best to defend his brother, Aemond did what he thought was best to defend himself from a group of kids that were jumping him 4vs1.

Now, for the punishment part. I think that you're fucked in the head if you want to maim a 5-6yo no matter what he did, but to me the worst thing about this whole thing in the case of Luke, is the way he didn't even feel remorse. The damage is done, now he needs to realise the extent of that damage.

Passing a few months with him, maybe as his squire or simply as Alicent's ward (although I don't doubt that my girl would be dreaming of making a necklace out of his eyeball on a nightly basis) simply helping Aemond or watching him as he forcefully gets used to something he's done, would be enough.

As long as he expresses remorse, as long as both kids come to an agreement or even apologize to each other (we're going to go to some kind of utopia here but still) all he has to do is learn how something as easy as lashing out changed the trajectory of someone's life forever. At least that wouldn't make him giggle mockingly to him ten years later.

What is a bad habit you have? For me it is not, but I do get a lot of ''nagging'' about what I do…. I am always, always barefoot, no matter what time of the year I always go barefoot at home. Everyone is scandalized when they see me like this but I can't help it, I can't wear slippers to walk around the house and everyone says ''how can you always be like this'' ''put something on because it's cold'' ''Aren't you cold?'' and I say NO.

What's your dream job? Even though I am now in a job that I have longed for, I would love to have my own law firm where I can help people, have a great team with different specialties, feel like Annalise Keating or Olivia Pope. Although, since I love photography I would also love to work in a magazine.

People are so dense. There's like 4 female characters in this show, so of course neither alicent or rhaenyra have friends. Not to mention the fact that she's a queen. Monarchies don't have friends.

Queens did have “friends” ,and they could be their ladies in waiting ,but there ladies were ready to switch alliances if it suited them ,so “friends “ are forced to be allies .And we don’t even see Alicent and Rhaenyra having ladies in wanting (which is understandable 1)since the show wants a narrative in which they were each other’s only good emotional support and2) In FAB we have no mention to ladies in waiting particularly close to them ) .

Hi! Sorry for the new ask but brainrot consumed my brain and i needed your counsel.

So i was thinking about Otto marrying Alicent to Viserys and ,as you said once how Otto doesnt understand abuse and how him and Viserys are kind of similar .But then it kinda got me that they're also very different ,with Otto being more politically smart ,decisive and empathetic in some sick way towards people (the way he generally manipulates Alicent and the page thing with Rhaenyra,altho i think it was Alicents idea ).So ,for me ,someone like Otto cant really respect Viserys ,despite the fact that he wants his daughter to marry him .BUT ,in the deleted scene of him and Alicent discussing which crown Aegon would wear ,the fact that he seems displeased by her comments and her choice of crown made me rethink a lot of things.

All of this mess of thoughts is to ask ,do you think Otto respected Viserys? .I dont wanna paint Otto as a mustache twirling villain who gives no fucks about his daughter to the point of him marrying to a someone he doesnt respect ,but i dont really know .

I think Viserys does embody traits that Otto likes and that he does enjoy being around him. We are used to him being a walking zombie, but Viserys in episode 1 was a very personable and charismatic fellow, well-read, diplomatic and, honestly, rather fun. He can tell a story, crack a joke and seems to be the kind of person you could share a beer with. However, he doesn't neglect his duties and understands that being King involves a lot of boring meetings and going through the motions, which he generally accepts good-naturedly. If you think I'm exaggerating, compare this with how Robert treated his job.

However, Viserys can also be indecisive. I don't think he's stupid at all, not even short-sighted really, he possesses political acumen in the sense that he understands what people want of him and what he is expected to do, but he is such a people pleaser and a chaser of his own desires, that he relies on non-confrontation as a modus operandi. And, in turn, that makes him also rely on his councilors a lot.

So, honestly, I think that Otto perhaps admired some of Viserys' qualities and not others - a mixed bag, like every other person, really. He probably would have felt mixed feelings about any potential son-in-law, but Viserys trumps everyone else every time just by occupying the highest office in the land and making Alicent his queen, which automatically turns him into the best candidate in Otto's eyes.

Broadly-speaking, Viserys' reign was peaceful, so for general admin stuff I think he performed pretty decently. So, on that front, coupled with his good-natured personality,* I'd say he earned Otto's approval. But he was not a true visionary or have an over-arching plan in mind like Jaehaerys, who did a lot of modernization work, and whom I suspect Otto would consider a better King. Especially since he got to serve under both. And Viserys truly made a mess with the succession, which affected Otto's family directly, so that weakness for Rhaenyra & Daemon would be what Otto might draw up as points of criticism.

*We're ultimately talking about white privileged men here -> their definition of good-nature and kindness and fairness.

Hi! I understand if you don't feel like sharing it ,but i really would like to read your meta about that Henry/Anne scene in BSR ''Isn't that enough?''. I hope you have a nice day.

"is it enough for you?" , but yes, i actually elaborated on this a little more elsewhere in other tags because i used that shot of that scene again for another edit.

so, expanding where i left off:

the images chosen are more the vibe for the quotes but the one from BSR is very specific

it's a great scene and it's so well-acted bcus she feels BAD for him here.

she pities him. she feels bad for him because he's losing her bcs she's not going to settle for these terms

because she knows she's amazing

and she's so self-posessed in the scene

and he cannot handle this and so it manifests in the reaction(you're making a big mistake; except that is his own big projection)

she's willful and knows her worth and won't diminish herself for anyone

...and i chose the reaction from the scene bcus it's not necessarily at odds with these descriptions (of her 'prudence')

bcs it takes a lot of dignity and self-worth and inward grace to stand one's ground enough (to withstand the 'tide of their prince')

...to give that rejection that by all social and cultural norms and graces she was simply not supposed to give. or was at least supposed to couch in more self-effacing terms.

but yeah anyway i know people thought BSR was 'trashy' but i actually thought the acting and chemistry between them was really great and maybe even lifted the writing from its weaker points.

because just the way he reels back at the line 'is it enough for you?' in all its pity-wrought glory...firstly, because it seems like it's a question no one has ever thought to ask him before, and secondly, so it gives way into that transformation from the shock into anger (how a 'lesser' person is daring to pity him, how he doesn't want her pity, he wants her love) which is just...chef's kiss. she absolutely obliterates his dignity here, not only in her rejection but in this eloquent explanation as to why this is her answer, and in the finality of her conviction. it is delicious. they could have this scene anywhere, in this darkened staircase for its the tudors copycat setting in this lithuanian palace, or on a fucking greenscreen, and it would still be just as powerful if these were its actors.

(im realizing that if anyone who is reading this hasn't watched they're going to think i'm an insane person based on this description... so hopefully the actual beats of the scene below will reveal what i mean, lol:

there's also a compelling subversion of (modern) expectation here, because...the only different thing in this equation is the status of the man asking to love her, asking why love is 'not enough'. for most 16c women of anne's status, no, 'love' wasn't enough. security was preferred. and, actually, it's very anachronistic how much this opinion is villianized (see, tobg:

...when it's like...yeah, a man's love was considered worthless. if it wasn't, they wouldn't have considered betrothal contracts to be a necessary evil!). it's very easy for him to say that she would 'want for nothing' (households, jewels, etc, one assumes), and she isn't allowing his ease: she's contradicting him, and pointing out that there is little security in the position of royal mistress.

herein lies the constant counterfactual moralistic tutting: anne 'should've just become a mistress,' always paired with 'this would, in the end, have made her 'safer.'' and it would have, as we know (not anne), but it would also, as she points out here, likely lead into her being a nonentity (a voice on the pillow, a woman hiding underneath the sheets and behind the bed curtains, an ornament for dancing), and she didn't want to be one: she wanted to be partner and collaborator of her future husband, not the diversion and darling of someone else's.

tl;dr the scene is powerful because she feels bad for him (she feels bad for herself, too, but she only allows him to see the former:

#redrosesandcharmingsouls #something about him essentially shouting at the top of his lungs 'WHAT'S SO 'HUMILIATING' ABOUT LOVE' #as he humiliates himself. for love. and so tries to leave with the final word. #and then still comes bounding back (by implication. the next MORNING?? ) like a fucking boomerang #all like step 1: failed. #and her asking why he would ask for something which diminishes them. why would he only want half a life with her? #doesn't he want more? it's a challenge but she's not expecting him to take it literally #she's asking why did you ask that of me? do you want me to think less of you? #do you think so little of me? do you think so little of yourself? don't you want more for yourself? #and it's the perfectly written question for these two people. from her to him #bcus they're both alike in that way. they both always want more for themselves #they are both always seekers #so yeah as much as i guess im alone in this opinion #i think this series did a really great job of like...establishing their point of connection #she's a challenge and he's a challenger.

Hi! So ,I had this question in my mind for sometimes so ,if you like ,I would like t know you thoughts .

I’ve head a lot of people say that Alicent’s motive for putting her kids on the throne is not only because she is genuinely scared for them and wants to protect them ,but putting them on the throne is also her way to give her suffering a meaning .Thing is ,I’m not exactly sure about that .Not because I wanna put Alicent in the “mother” box .I think that Alicent loving her kids and wanting to protect them doesn’t mean she also doesn’t have her own motives .And honestly ,even if she wasn’t haunted by the “hollowness of her suffering” as someone said ,she would’ve still made Aegon king .(Book Alicent anyone?) .

In episodes six she sounds genuinely scared and anxious only for her kids .In episode seven there’s also her lamenting her personal suffering tho ,but her outbursts is also caused by Rhaenyra’s privilege used to maim her son.

Either way ,I really wanna know you thoughts !

Hi, Red Roses, I think you can give Alicent this motivation or not, depending on how you want to write her story, but it wouldn't change much about the narrative and wouldn't modify her character in a fundamental way. IMO the basic feeling of fearing for her children's lives is always going to override anything else and be her primary motivation.

Well, the popular opinion still remains that he was obsessed with her, but never actually had any love or even affection for her, that she had no love or attraction or affection for/towards him, but just wanted power (for power's sake alone, is still a depressingly prevalent if shallow opinion, although I think more these days are at least conceding she wanted power to further her goals, not just elevate her family, such as religious reform), and that the only reason he remained in what was, by most estimates, a six-to-seven year betrothal/engagement was that she wouldn't 'put out' and once she did the shine was off and he was immediately 'disenchanted', as it were ('he found out he couldn't stand her character once they were married', like, really? i think seven years is a pretty long time to get a sense of someone's character, but what do i know)...

I don't agree with pretty much, any of those opinions? Unless you meant to ask me what my 'unpopular opinions' are.
