The rationale it takes to support the Amarantha & Tamlin mate theory really is quite outrageous. Smh.
Two responses, I received:
One: Like calls to Like and Amarantha loved Tamlin so much she locked him up, just as Tamlin later locked Feyre up.
R u kidding me? One had a maniacal power-crazed, tortuous-inducing prison under a mountain. Trapping adversaries. Not just "her mate."🤢 The other locked his fiance in his mansion. One time. The only motive was that it was a form of protection. Not some diabolical, evil plan. To say this is an example of Like to Like, would be to ignore all the heinous things Amarantha did as a character. It's the equivalent to saying she liked the color orange, and he ate an orange once. Therefore, they must be mates. In contrast, what about all the good qualities of Tamlin? Where is the Like of those to Amarantha? I didn't see Amarantha playing a fiddle or writing poetry or hiding away from her power.
Secondly: That's why Tamlin was so OOC and in a downward spiral because the breaking of a mating bond is so painful. Or because he was so sad that Amarantha was his mate.
Wait, what are you smoking? I'll be nice and respectful, but seriously W.T.F.
Like I said in a previous post, I do not think he would have described the mating bond as a blessing or in such a beautiful way if he himself was currently denying a mating bond or if was sad about who was mated to. When he described what a mating bond was to Feyre and he was denying one, why would he have even brought a mating bond up? Why not describe something that can be wrong or broken?
Also, as said in the previous post, you can't kill your mate. But in the unwritten, unfounded in maasverse, off-chance way Tamlin did indeed kill his mate, then the pain should have been so severe he wouldn't have immediately been able to hold and beg for the life of Feyre, been able to have intimacy with another person and plan a wedding with said person in a short 3 months following the death of his supposed mate. It's lunacy. And I'm not trying to discredit individual responses to trauma. But, canonically speaking, there has never been an example of a character who has lost a mate and then immediately was able to turn around and resume life with another lover. (Using Rowen & Baxian as examples).
Here's the thing, Tamlin's OOC-downward spiral could also have been a very rational response to the trauma of what happened UTM. To his court. To his Prior and Complex PTSD from war and grief of family and friends. Of living with the constant threat of Rhys entering his home and stealing his lover against her own will. An example of the tyranny he hates. But, not the loss of a mate.

we need to stop pretending WWE didn't publish an official series of comic books exploring how sami turning heel at hell in a cell was fruit of manipulation by kevin, who systematically got into sami's head by trying to make him believe no one around him really loved or respected him (other wrestlers and fans included) and constantly rubbing his own successes in sami's face in order to convince him he had to "stop caring" aka turn heel to active success - Sami turning "for Kevin" is an incorrect way of putting it, he turned because of Kevin, yes, but that doesn't mean it was a good thing for anyone involved - it wasn't a gesture of friendship, it was the product of guilt, isolation and sami's own insecurities (a consistent quality to his character, either as a heel or a babyface) being manipulated, so can we please stop sugarcoating their relationship??? the kevin and sami dynamic is interesting because it's complex and layered and i'm tired of seeing it reduced to a 1-note buddy show
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways go read those comics if you never did, they're well written and most importantly, canon (here's a cute video of sami and kevin announcing the comics).

I'm gonna be real I have no clue how I'd ever post Tiger crawl home, it's so atypical compared to the way I write now. Like new stories I'm so clearheaded about what parts characters serve in the narrative, I know what I want to say, even if it's something more freeform like my stuff with Leopard which is contained and has a purpose in my mind. Tiger Crawl home as a story and not just a headworld exists as years of script like snippets I can't post without feeling like I'm having a public vivisection. Like it's easy to write complex characters when you are Writing them with purpose.
Tiger Crawl home isn't like that, these guys are like an insane pseudo mirror of my life via the way of untreated mega mental illness and schemas and abused kid delusions ages 14 to 22. Like this is the kind of story that I feel like can only exist in some weird 62 hour long visual novel with zero payoff but it alters your life somehow. Saying it has arcs is generous, I will write 8 page half script half summaries about how Damian is avoidant of homes and owns virtually nothing, how they choose concrete basements to rest in because it reminds them of cages, and it's a reason to never become comfortable, and why, and how, and how it changes over time but stays the same and how it effects those around you to come and go like a stray cat, hissing, disappearing and purring and staying in the same breath. Obviously I'm being so self indulgent in combining all my passions in clothing, design, themes and creatures in here, I put plenty in here just because I think it's cool and fun but the writing itself only exists as like agonizingly slow crawls through suicide attempts and relationship dynamics that might not ever get to a truly healthy and clean place. It means the world to me, I don't know how to actually show it raw to anyone though.

we finally finished s5 of the dragon prince with my roommate and man that show is doing things to me... the last 2 episodes were absolutely incredible i am. on the floor
#the dragon prince#the dragon prince spoilers#(bc of the tags)#the whole thing with soren choosing not to fight back against elmer to show him that he didn't have to take finnegrin's shit#because he recognized his own relationship to viren in the finnegrin/elmer dynamic. fucking. ended me#soren is such a bonkers insane character i am unwell#90% of the time he's just a silly little guy !! he's the comic relief !!#and THEN. he gets the most emotionally devastating moment of character development you've ever seen. absolutely unhinged#and then the whole thing with claudia in the last episode. GOD. could write a fucking essay about claudia and viren's entire arc#and man it gets DARK but i think it's really lovely that they don't let the fact that it's supposed to be a 'kid's show' get in the way#of the story they want to tell#like. all of the characters are nuanced and their relationship to each other are deeply layered whether they're villains or heroes#the storytelling is *chef's kiss* and it dives into truly complex issues and character dynamics#in a way that feels organic and not overly moralistic#they don't shy away from showing the ugly side of things#like the moment when callum literally gets TORTURED ? i was like wow. they're really going there#same with viren's fever dream#and like it's clearly intended for older kids#but still. i love that they respect kids' ability to handle pretty dark stuff and to understand nuanced storytelling#without having to make everything exceedingly literal or censoring themselves#this show genuinely has better writing that a lot of 'adult' tv i've seen and it's often on par with some of the best stuff i've watched#and yeah. that's really precious i think#oops i ended up writing an essay in the tags lmao. oh well#mara talks

🕯️ Mainly Man-Bat but also curious what Kirk would think of passing by a certain homeless redhead holding an ominous sign?
Send me 🕯️ to hear my character's inner thoughts about your character.
Tumblr media
Creature with a face like stormclouds. It is no human but walks amongst the many preying upon those who foolishly believe themselves to be predators. Those humans soon learn better, at least those who do manage to survive, their blood spilling in the wake of the Rorschach's fury. They think hiding behind thick walls will make it go away but we know better, that it will simply find other ways to catch them instead because it is a true predator, not cowering prey like they are. Normally competition would not be tolerated but Rorschach is a presence we will accept. We understand each other. We are the same, solo hunters in a city full of prey.
Tumblr media
In another time, another life perhaps, Kirk could see himself in the homeless man's shoes. It didn't take much for one's life to turn upside down, to get into things that might have been better off being left alone but it's hard not to feel some sort of sympathy towards the older man. People brushed past him quickly as though he did not exist, keeping their distance but to those who cared to look closer, it was plain to see life had not been kind to the redhead. Had he always lived in Gotham? Kirk was unsure. He often visited the park, during the day even to feed the birds when his research was getting too much to handle and saw many people but never exactly talked to anybody; Gotham was a big city after all and wasn't always the friendliest either. The man didn't look so friendly either, but it was foolish to judge him soley from appearance. Plenty of people looked just fine, incredibly handsome or beautiful only to commit the most heinous acts whenever the sun went down. He should know, he read the paper everyday, with something terrible going on or having been prevented by Batman. Perhaps he should go over and say hello, to talk to the mysterious redhead and find out what he meant with his sign. He might have been just as lonely as Kirk felt, having one less person in his life nowadays.

the way gintama handles gender is clumsy and doesnt age particularly well at parts even if there seems to be a genuine attempt at critiquing gender roles it still kind of falls flat and its representation of trans people falls into stereotypes but i would like to congratulate yagyu kyubei on being the only anime character ever to be both a man in a trans way and a woman in a trans way

Oh yes and this probably can go without saying because I trust all you but long rambly posts explaining why some of my difficult muses are the way they are or blabbering about certain things in their lives that were undeserved/unfair/traumatic =/= is not =/= me saying any of their more amoral or difficult behaviors should just be overlooked or forgiven all at once, especially if that's not in your muse's nature or they haven't been given proper reason. It's always fine and reasonable for some muses not to click with others because of behaviors that aren't easy to just 'deal with'. As long as oocly we all respect the facets of each other's muses then anything ic never ever gets taken personally.

“chatting idly and mindlessly about very common or basic character misconceptions” part two, wataru edition. something something about wataru’s dehumanization and how he spent years of his childhood picking up and putting down roles and losing himself between the lines of where his own solitary identity lied (where does the stage end?), external to every character he’d dipped into starting from his youth. I think it’s interesting to see how he’s developed and handled this over the years. but also, somehow, despite how alienating and blurry it can feel, the act of performing and trying to trace back who you are because you’ve picked up so many pieces and faucets from people and characters and from life as a whole is one of the most human experiences there is. and it’s already said within the story that identities and personalities are episodic and continuously subject to change and growth, they can never truly be defined. they live and breathe as our bodies do.
so I think it’s misguided to view the only focus of his arc as being ”oh, no, he must just be lying about everything and be secretly super sad and depressed all the time!” when there’s more to it than an archetypal “happy-go-lucky character turns out to be hiding their pain” ending (and more to it than assuming he’s lying about everything, in general).
I also love that he uses performance, theatre & actions as a means of communication, and how he feels as though he stumbles greatly over his own words and can barely ask for things. having theatre as a framework for communication offers a safety net and a certain sense of indirectness, but at the same time he gets mangled and tied up within that net and the other characters (or even he, himself) begin to grow frustrated and confused surrounding his existence & intentions (hokuto’s “if there’s something you want to be done, do it yourself like a normal person [...] but you and your sacrifice will never be rewarded. the spectators won’t ever notice”) and the audience no longer understands him, it assumes he’s only lying through his teeth and therefore questions and probates every inch of him. wataru is intelligent, fickle, and capable of acting manipulatively or in ways that cause shifts and ripples through the story (he’s been very good at doing so), but at the end of the day he’s also a teenager and a child like everybody else, he bears his own sense of confusion, loss, sorrow, genuineness, and love. he’s a bright and brilliant character with a big, albeit confusing heart. and he ultimately is meant to be accepted with all of these faucets, numerous and ever-shifting as they may be.

Why do so many people either deny even the remote possibility that MohgMiq could be rape or else acknowledge it is... but then reduce Mohg’s character to just that and say how dare you ship it, and attack people for it.
I ship MohgMiq as one-sided incestuous rape. I respect others that ship them with wildly different dynamics from my own interpretations so long as they respect that possibility as well. It’s soulsborne, its open. Do what you want! Don’t engage with what you don’t and filter the tags so you don’t have to see it!

Ya know, I thought I was in rare pair hell when I was shipping something with less than 10 fics on ao3. But apparently it can get so much worse
In other news, your local pattern idiot has latched onto a ship where one of the characters just doesn’t exist on ao3 at all (legitimately I have SEARCHED) and the only fanfic that can even be found by googling “character name fanfic” isn’t even about them. They just show up in the background in two scenes
Clearly, I am the only one who can see the True Ship (not really because I like the other, much more popular character in other ships too)

reading baru and adwd at the same time gave me such bad whiplash you would not believe how two political fantasy books could be so different in every way...and the contrast made me ill every time I got to a dany chapter or a tyrion chapter or even a jon or asha chapter and I like jon and asha

Y'know, I started to type out a massive post about how sad and frustrating it is that every USAmerican southern character in anything is presented as ignorant and uneducated and "dumb" and even hateful, how there are people here with degrees and careers and incredibly complex skills that took years to develop and learn, and then I realized, fuck that-- yeah, there are a lot of people with no or little education down here. We're fucking poor. A lot of us just can't afford college. A lot of us have to get jobs instead to support our families. Some people dropped out of high school to do that. And you know what? They're still human beings who deserve to be represented as whole, real, functional people and not flat archetypes.
Like yeah, I could talk about all the talented and smart people who came from down here, but the "simple," the disabled, the uneducated down here don't deserve the way the media depicts them, either! Because the bulk of them are good people who just got dealt a bad hand because we are so pathetically poor down here. And yeah, that includes the addicts. We have a lot of addicts down here. And that isn't our fault, either. when you're dealt the worst possible hand and no one wants to help you, everyone regards you as being trash, you're gonna cope however you can.
Everyone wants to write us off and present us in media as pretty much just. nothing people, but there are many, many people here of all walks of life who deserve respect and who need help that they aren't getting BECAUSE nobody shows us any fucking respect, and the way the media depicts us consistently does constant, DEEP damage to the way the rest of the country views us. It isn't fucking fair and it isn't fucking okay.
