Queen Aemma Arryn
Tumblr media
Credits to @sajirah
Aemma Arryn's perspective in the royal family is very interesting.
To begin, she's the daughter of Princess Daella Targaryen and Lord Rodrik Arryn
Jaehaerys wed off Daella so that he would no longer deal with Daella's shortcomings in learning and anxiety.
Aemma in the other hand was acutely aware of who she was and of her position, she had not inherited the disorders Daella suffered and even though her grandparents married her to Viserys when she was really young -she was actually younger than her own mother at the age of 11- she grew to be a fierce and strong woman.
Aemma was a Targaryen on her mother's side, just like her ancestor Alyssa Velaryon who was a queen as well -though Alyssa was a Targaryen due to her grandmother being a Targaryen who married a Massey as it was stated in both AWOIAF and Fire and Blood-, however the difference lies in the cultures they were raised.
Alyssa was raised in the Valyrian way, speaking High Valyrian and learning about the Valyrian gods, whereas Aemma was raised in the Andal way in the Vale.
Aemma was technically an outsider within her own family, as she was not used to the Valyrian lifestyle, but she adapted quickly and eventually became the Queen Consort of the Seven Kingdoms, and the foremother of the kings that followed her daughter's sons Aegon III Targaryen the Unlucky and Viserys II Targaryen.
Aemma had the silver hair due to it being a recessive trait that got combined with the own recessive traits of the Arryns, but her eyes were cerulean blue, a part of her Arryn heritage that overpowered the Targaryen side of her, technically the physical proof that Aemma was a whole part of two worlds.
In a parallel to her cousin Rhaenys, they both had the hair color of their mothers and the eye color of their fathers, in Aemma's case she had the Valyrian silver-gold hair color and the cerulean blue eyes for which the Arryns are famous; both their Targaryen parents were the first ones to die when it came to their parents, and both Rhaenys and Aemma had two children - one girl first and a boy later- who would be crucial in the history of Westeros.
And in opposites Rhaenys had been expected to be the first ruling queen due to her birthright being the first child of Aemon Targaryen the oldest child of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne, and her mother Jocelyn Baratheon was by her Baratheon side the second cousin once removed and maternal half-sister of Jaehaerys and Alysanne on her Velaryon side, but Rhaenys was passed over due to her gender, and Aemma had never been expected to have a powerful position as many would have thought little of Daella Targaryen's child who was the fifth child and youngest of Rodrik Arryn but due to her marriage to her cousin Viserys, Aemma became queen.
From what we see in the show and get from the books it's fair to say her relationship with Daemon was neutral, they got along for the sake of Viserys, but very probably Daemon thought little of Aemma for being Daella's daughter and for being an Arryn who grew up in the Vale, now imagine his surprise when he saw Aemma was not dimwitted and that she was proud of her entire heritage.
Aemma was the first fully recognized queen who had been raised in the Andal culture, even if she was half Targaryen she represented that the Targaryens could mix and adapt without problem and still maintain their influence and power, in a contrast to the Valyrian supremacy that others had.

What Greens think during Rhaenys' badass entry (incorrect quotes):
Aegon: I may not be so hot anymore
Otto: I outlived Daemon, outlived Rhaenyra, I'ma outlast this shit too. Maybe...
Alicent: Rhaenyra🥺
Criston: Rhaenyra😳
Aemond: Fuck where is Vhagar
Helaena (looking at Aegon): Say it, say it, say it, say it, say it, say it, say it.

AU where Rhaenys does not inexplicably decide not to kill all the greens in one stroke and just takes the throne herself.

More than ANYONE else in Westeros, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen truly knows how to play the game of thrones. When there were no guarantees of Rhaenyra's position, she only listened to the proposals, made her observations and left her options open to her own advantage. But the moment Viserys came in she knew that Rhaenyra would be favored and recalculated the best way out of the situation as a whole, but mostly what was best for her and her family. UGH, HER MIND! IT AMAZES ME EVERY TIME!

Scenes I wish they included.
Alicent marrying Viserys and the two girls having there moment before the wedding where they try to reconcile but can’t. Maybe Rhaenyra offers that they run away together and start a new life (like Criston did) and Alicent says she can’t forsake her duty.
Baela saying she wishes to fight and Rhaenys saying she sees Laena in her. Just give Baela and Rhaena more character that helps identify them outside of twin with dragon and twin without dragon.
Aegon’s birth. Show the fear and the grief Alicent experiences when she realizes that her son will now have to challenge Rhaenyra. Show Rhaenyra leaving once she sees her baby brother because she doesn’t want to confront that this boy might replace her. Show Alicent being comforted by her father while Viserys goes around showing baby Aegon off.
And for the love of the old gods and the new! Show Alicent crowning Haelena with her own crown and the two having this moment of mother daughter love and understanding about what being queen means.

Alicent: It's not gay if I wanna date Rhaenyra in like a buddy way, right?
Rhaenys: I'm no expert but that sounds pretty gay.
Laenor: I'm an expert, that's gay!

Comparison between Princess Rhaenys and Queen Alysanne
I don't have much to start on, but many people, in the fandom, have compared Princess Rhaenys Targaryen to her grandmother, Queen Alysanne. I read this somewhere, something along the lines of:
As she grew old, her physical appearance resembled that of the Good Queen.
If there is something inaccurate, you can reblog this and write your opinion!

If you are going to write an OC who is a Dragonseed or Seahorse seed (someone descended from a Velaryon), please do not feel compelled to only write them as people who have silver hair and/or purple eyes.
You can have them as secret descendants of Valyrians who do not know of their heritage until something happens (if they are Velaryons, you can say they have great sailing skills and resistance to misty weather and storms).
It's colorist to say they are only true Targaryens or Velaryons just for having the Valyrian typical look and misogynist if it's only because of a father instead of a mother.
Rhaenys The Queen Who Should Have Been is a true Targaryen and she has raven hair in the canon of Fire & Blood, same with her mother Jocelyn Baratheon -the daughter of Alyssa Velaryon and Rogar Baratheon- and they are more valyrian than the silver haired Aemma Arryn as Jocelyn's descended from Targaryens on both her father's and mother's sides (Alyssa Velaryon was said to have a Targaryen ancestor).
Jace, Luke and Joffrey have more valyrian blood than Daenerys the Unburnt and yet they had medium brown hair and brown eyes (which is explained by other circumstances).
Queen Alysanne Targaryen is never considered a lesser Targaryen even though she has the less typical (but still common) Valyrian look of honey blonde hair and pale blue eyes.
Baelor Breakspear, even if he received racism, is described as a worthy heir to the Iron Throne and proved that being a Targaryen is more than having Silver hair and purple eyes, same with Aerys and Rhaegel; since Maekar is the only one of Daeron and Myriah's sons described having the full Valyrian look.
And if it's a Targaryen Royce oc, Targaryen Hightower oc or a Velaryon Targaryen oc (child of Corlys and Rhaenys who in canon has actually raven hair), then black or brown hair in that case is not "a stain from the gods to show their bastardy" as I've read in some fics, in that case their hair is easily explainable because of their parents, and if you think about it you will see it would be a proof that the Strong boys' hair, eyes and other physical features of them are not coming from Laenor but rather from Harwin Strong.

We all know the real reason Rhaenys didn't say "Dracarys" is because Helaena was there.

"If you dont pick a side - aka the side I personally prefer for moral reasons - in HOTD, then you miss the entire point GRRM wanted to make, and are immoral"
Have you considered that you can do two things at once, understand the deeper meaning of the Dance and also watch this in the same way you would follow a telenovela or a soccer match between two bitter rival teams where you don't really have a horse in the race
