Happy Birthday, Rod Argent!
Born on this day, Rod Argent, a legendary musician and founding member of the iconic rock band The Zombies, celebrates another year of his extraordinary life. Born on June 14, Rod's journey began in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, in 1945, and little did the world know that he would go on to become a pioneer in the realm of progressive rock and pop music.
Rod's musical prowess was evident from a young age, as he showed a remarkable talent for playing the piano and keyboards. His distinctive playing style and innovative approach would become hallmarks of The Zombies' sound. In the early 1960s, Rod joined forces with his schoolmate, Colin Blunstone, to form The Zombies, a band that would go on to achieve worldwide acclaim.
Argent's keyboard skills were prominently showcased in The Zombies' breakthrough hits, such as the timeless classic "She's Not There" and the hauntingly beautiful "Time of the Season." His ability to infuse rich melodies and intricate arrangements into the band's music set them apart from their peers and established The Zombies as true pioneers of their era.
Rod's creative genius and passion for exploration extended beyond The Zombies. In the late '60s, he formed the band Argent, which saw him taking on a more prominent role as a songwriter and vocalist. With hits like "Hold Your Head Up" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You," Argent solidified their place in rock history.

Song Review(s): The Zombies - “Merry-Go-Round” and “Love You While I Can”
When a band’s been around as long as the Zombies have been around, it’s almost expected they’ll do some borrowing and recycling.
And so it comes to pass that “Merry-Go-Round” and “Love You While I Can” borrow from and recycle Deep Purple’s “Space Truckin’” and the general feeling of Badfinger, respectively. The tracks - from Different Game - follow the band’s Doors/Steely Dan admixture, “Dropped, Reeling & Stupid,” which announced the LP’s March 31 arrival.

The relatively uptempo “Merry-Go-Round” is the stronger of the two as “Love You While I Can” is a mawkish ballad with breathy vocals that rhymes eyes with realize. And neither is a song Zombies fans will clamor for during gigs.
Grade card: The Zombies - “Merry-Go-Round” and “Love You While I Can” - C+/D+
