ANDREI | for @reverdies, for Javert, during the war (just after Austerlitz)
Tumblr media
Prince Andrei had been taken prisoner by the French on Pratzen hill, and the pain of being lifted onto a stretcher had been so great that he had lost consciousness. They had taken him to the field hospital. It was not until the next day that he could open his eyes again. The French Emperor had visited the captured Russians and ordered they be treated. Prince Andrei had not stopped thinking about that lofty, blue sky.
There were French soldiers milling about the ranks of wounded Russians. Prince Andrei blinked at the dingy canvas of the tent. The little icon that Princess Marya had given him was resting on his chest. It had been hung around his neck. He slowly turned his head to look at the Frenchman standing near to him, who looked to be only a little older than him.
He tried to speak, but his mouth was so dry it was only a rasp. "Where -- where is this?" he said in French. Outside the tent, the sky awaited.

ANDREI | starter for @moretreasurewithin, for Ella~
Tumblr media
Their carriage rounded the bend, and a house came into view, sitting behind a round courtyard in a green field. It had the sort of charm that only old houses that are starting to crumble have, yet it showed signs of recent repair; fresh paint on the henhouse, new shingles on the roof.
Andrei helped Ella down, but already a voice was calling her name. His eyes softened, even so. “So this was your home,” he said, though he could only cast the house the barest of glances, for the look on Ella’s face was too much to look away from. He watched her as a moth does a light.

ANDREI | starter for @skyjci, for Dunya - it’s 1834 and their kids are getting marrieddddd
The ektenias had been intoned. The crowns had been held over Katya and her husband-to-be’s heads and then Ekaterina and Nikolai had been lead around three times around the Gospel. She was Princess Tverskaya now.
Prince Andrei Bolkonsky had stood stone-faced through the service, though his eyes had softened whenever his daughter had glanced his way, and he’d held Princess Sofiya’s hand in his almost the entire time. He wanted to weep, though from joy or sorrow, he couldn’t decide; perhaps it was both, and that annoyed him. The groom’s family was large and all of Andrei’s own children were there, as well as his sister and her family. The wedding feast and ball afterwards had grown quite boisterous.
After watching Prince Tversky gaze fondly into Katya’s eyes and her sigh happily in return, Prince Andrei kissed Sonya’s hand and then stepped away towards a quieter corner of the ballroom for a brief respite from the festivities. He almost felt as if the party were mocking his loss, though he’d known this was coming for some years now. Still, it hadn’t quite prepared him. It should have. (Across the ballroom, Countess Bezukhova had watched her brother slip away with a look of sympathy, though he did not see it.) But how could he not be happy for his daughter? He was. He could not help the lines around his blue eyes crinkling as he caught sight of her laughing, twirling across the floor with her Nikolai.
He heard steps behind him and then turned to see that it was the mistress of the house herself, the mother of the groom. “Princess Tverskaya,” Prince Andrei greeted her, his voice dry from bittersweetness. “Congratulations. You should know that you have gained an excellent daughter-in-law.”

ANDREI | this was gonna be the kiss meme but WE’RE WILDIN @skyjci, for Sonya
Tumblr media
Prince Andrei had arrived in Moscow in the evening, and almost immediately his father had told him stories of Natalia Rostova’s abduction. The old prince’s voice had been animated and there had been a cheerful gleam in his eye, but Prince Andrei had gone to bed without any discussion of breaking his engagement to Sonya.
In the morning, he had called on Marya Dmitrievna’s house. Marya Dmitrievna had not received him; the butler had shown him into the drawing room without a word. There were footsteps moving around in the upstairs rooms; he heard the voice of Count Rostov in the hall, though he could not hear what was being said.
After a few minutes, Sonya entered the drawing room. Prince Andrei lowered his gaze and went up to her, then looked her in her face. He felt, looking at her, a settling weight of his duty towards her, but it did not feel like a burden; it was paired with a sense of relief that made the weight joyful. He reached for her hand and kissed it.
"I would like to apologize for not writing when I arrived last night,” he told her, letting go of her hand. “My father’s requirement has been fulfilled, but I have come to ask if you need more time, or if... your mind has changed. Please know that you have always been free, and I will bear you no ill if it has,” Prince Andrei said, though his lips tightened as he said that.

@moretreasurewithin | con’t from (x)
“We didn’t know each other,” Andrei pointed out. “My opinion of you would have been indifferent either way.” Ella cozied up to him and he let his arm fall around her.
It was different now. Finding Ella again had been unexpected, but once it had happened, he had felt that he could not live without her as much as he could not live without breathing.
She turned to him and spoke, and he watched her, tracing her face as the light from the lamp slid through her hair and into her eyes. He pressed a brief kiss to her forehead in response. “We will,” he said. The lamplight was a warm yellow, turned down enough that it could almost be candlelight. Andrei reached for her hand, matching rings shining for a brief flash.

ANDREI | soft starter for @enastrcs, for Natasha
Tumblr media
Prince Andrei had been invited by Count Rostov to dinner, and Prince Andrei had accepted, something he would have found unthinkable a few months ago. After dinner, the family and the guests had adjourned to the drawing room, and had naturally split into small groups to converse with each other. Prince Andrei found himself at the window. The moon was shining down onto the Moscow street below, silvering anything that was covered with ice; it had rained earlier in the day and the streets had frozen, becoming slick.
Prince Andrei looked back into the drawing room to see Natasha approaching him, and he smiled at her. “I’m very glad to see you,” he said.

ANDREI | @sncwfated that sonyandrei thread we plotted literally like fifteen minutes ago
Tumblr media
For Prince Andrei, the past few days had gone by in a haze of motion and sound, as the Rostovs had transported the injured man with them out of Moscow. The Count and Countess, as well as Natasha, barely knew what to think of his chance of survival. They’d sent a letter to Sonya and one to his sister, Marya Nikolaevna, but they had no way of knowing whether either woman was on her way.
Today, his blue eyes had been blinking open and closed at the wall, and he’d spoken briefly to the doctor in a weak and quiet voice. He did not know who was with him, only that occasionally faces and voices came and went, and that they were all vaguely familiar. The faces and voices had stopped their peeking in because it was now evening, and Prince Andrei, laying on his back, looked at the ceiling of the mostly-dark room. There was a candle lit on a side table next to him. He turned his head slowly, and looked at it. The flame wavered and danced as the wind trickled trough the rough walls. He could vaguely hear people talking, but it sounded as if they were very far off. He heard a loud sound, but could not think of what it was. There was a thing in the doorway, stretched and unnatural, and as he looked at it, everything was painful, and he begged someone to let him be before losing consciousness again. When he came to, he realized that there was someone sitting next to the table by the candle, and then he realized it was his wife.
Prince Andrei smiled, his lips cracked and dry, his voice quiet and rough as he stirred slightly. He met Sonya’s eyes. “You... My dear.”

ANDREI | valentines! modern starter for @moretreasurewithin
Tumblr media
Andrei closed the apartment door quietly behind him, bouquet balanced between the bag of normal groceries and his shoulder. The florist had, once again, given him a look that was somewhat condescending as he’d gone to pick up the custom bouquet, and Andrei was still somewhat annoyed that she’d straight refused to do what he’d initially proposed. Still, he hoped that Ella would appreciate the blue irises, baby’s breath sprays dusting the gaps and a few pale blue tulips peeking out in between.
He hadn’t been expecting her to be standing in their kitchen, her back to him as she prepared a cup of tea. Andrei set the bag of groceries on the counter, and, still holding the bouquet, reached into the cupboard for a vase. There was little point in hiding it now. Passing by her, he briefly kissed the top of her head. “Hello.”

ANDREI | starter for @sncwfated, for Sonya
Tumblr media
The day after the ball, Prince Andrei had called on the Rostovs and been invited both to stay for dinner and to visit once more. A few days later, he went to the house for dinner, as the Count had pressed his invitation, and spent almost the whole afternoon with them. He had wanted to talk more with Sonya, but the family -- with a somewhat confused yet courteous air -- had been introducing him to Natasha, even though they had met at Otradnoe.
Finally, as she was standing by a window, he excused himself from his conversation with the Count and went to go stand with her, though he did not look out the window. He looked at her instead, and found within him that same gentle feeling that had bloomed in him at the ball. Across the room, someone had started to play the clavichord. “How did you find the ball, Miss Rostova?” he asked, simply wanting a pretext to open conversation and hear her speak.

ANDREI | modern starter for @jouesrose
Tumblr media
As usual, as soon as Andrei picked up the phone, he was met almost by an explosion of excitement. He squinted at the clock -- it was morning still, and he needed a cup of coffee. The rapid French she was speaking was not quite processing yet, and he was only getting the gist of her sentences. “Slow down, Juliet,” Andrei said when she paused for breath, his voice sleep-curt but still with that hidden sort of affection. As she talked, he went into his kitchen and measured some of the beans into the coffee grinder. The moka pot was already waiting on the stove. “Give me a moment... What are you saying?”

ANDREI | starter for @madeinhistory, for Pierre
Tumblr media
Prince Andrei Bolkonsky had not wanted to come to the soirée but had done so at the behest of his wife, for he knew he could not leave her there alone without some comment being made. She was a few tables away, and her pretty laughter floated up towards him. Prince Andrei winced and turned away, his gaze sweeping in bored waves over the drawing room. He knew everyone there and therefore was not expecting anything pleasant tonight.
However, even as he had resigned himself to this thought, Prince Andrei saw a familiar and dear face and moved through the clumps of people towards him. “Pierre, hello,” he said, smiling, his voice quiet but with a kindness especially for Pierre. “How surprised I am, to see you here.”

ANDREI | first ball after marriage starter for @dcarhcarts, for Sonya
It was once again winter when the Tsar held his grand ball in St. Petersburg, and the drive was once again crowded with carriages and guests chattering with excitement, hurrying inside to escape the biting air. Prince Andrei was in attendance, as was his custom, but this time he did not come alone, bringing with him his new wife, Princess Sofiya.
Prince Andrei looked over at Sonya as the two of them entered the front hall, where there was already a crowd of people talking to one another. These were the sort that gathered around the entrance to the ballroom, ready to spy on who was coming and going and report their findings to the other gossips around them. The host and hostess quickly came to greet the two of them, and the master of ceremonies announced them by name as they entered the ballroom.
Prince Andrei had already known that there would be gossip, yet the glances that were starting to be thrown their way seemed especially classless. He himself could barely keep his eyes from Sonya; the bright golden light caught in her hair and illuminated her eyes. He did not, however, fail to notice the Rostov family hurrying towards them; he had happened to see them almost at once when they entered the ballroom, and had caught the look on Countess Rostova’s face when Sonya was announced. The older lady was clearly now trying to hide her bitterness as the Count, the Countess, and Natasha came to greet them.

ANDREI | starter for @dcarhcarts, for Sonya
The britzka drove up to the porch of the house, and Prince Andrei turned his attention from the grounds of the estate to his wife, sitting across from him in the open carriage. It had been several months since their marriage, and it would not be put off any longer; they had removed themselves from their Moscow house to the country, to Bald Hills.
Prince Andrei descended the carriage and offered a hand to Sonya so that she might do so herself, and Demyan the butler was already opening the door to usher them in. The prince’s face was serious, though he smiled briefly at his wife as he let her enter before him. He had already received a letter from his father before their journey, and the old prince had not bothered to hide his spite towards his daughter-in-law, though he had only met her once before, at the wedding. Prince Andrei knew that Sonya was resilient enough to endure, but the irrationality of his father’s feelings bothered him.
Tikhon appeared from the old prince’s rooms and told Prince Andrei that the old prince was resting and would be for a half-hour. Prince Andrei, who had expected this, turned towards his wife. “Our rooms should be prepared. Or we can go to Princess Marya; she knew we were coming.”
Even looking into her face seemed to calm his thoughts, a quietness coming over him. The feeling had been strange and unknown at first, and still there was a part of him that wondered that he could feel this type of happiness, that she could seem to show him the whole world in a new light. The vastness of this new world seemed terrible sometimes, but he only need look at her and then, somehow, the world was still. Prince Andrei reached for and covered his wife’s hand with his own, tucking it into the crook of his arm.

The streetlights were shining dimly through the nighttime air as the three of them exited the theatre, Andrei’s hand firmly in Pierre’s as Natasha practically danced ahead of them, her joy making him smile. Their breath curled in the slight chill as the three of them began the walk home, Andrei already planning to make tea to ward off the coolness of the evening.
“I take it you enjoyed the show,” Andrei said to her, his tone fondly neutral to tease her. He glanced over at Pierre beside him, and his eyes softened slightly as he just barely, briefly squeezed his hand.

@dcarhcarts | con’t from (x)
Tumblr media
Prince Andrei had been drifting between half-asleep and half-awake, watching the shadows on the walls shorten and lengthen and then disappear entirely, over and over as one day bled into the next. Somehow he knew that there was no use in counting the days anymore. The thought did not bother him as much as he vaguely knew it ought to.
When he turned his head, Natasha had been there, and once again that sense of happiness had overtaken him. She was a light. He’d asked her a question, and her radiant eyes had transfixed him. Prince Andrei smiled as she took his hands. “I love you,” he told her. “I’ve loved you since the moment I saw you. Your soul awoke mine... I want to weep for joy.”

ANDREI | double date madness with @jouesrose, @heartlosttravelers (Raoul), and @ashencreature (Elias)
Tumblr media
Andrei wasn’t sure why he’d agreed to this, but Juliet’s face had lit when he’d mentioned that Raoul had been wanting to meet her. Somehow, plans for a double date between Andrei and Raoul and Juliet and her boyfriend, Elias, had progressed from there. Juliet had chosen the restaurant, and Andrei looked around for the other couple as he and Raoul stepped inside the warm interior. “I’m not sure where they’re sitting,” he said to Raoul before movement in the corner of his vision caught his eye.
