I would love to see your take on the classic story idea, Rin is summoned by Ryuuji during class~
Sorry it took me so long to fill this! It has gotten a bit long, so it's going to be a two parter ^^
The Circle of Strife
Part: One (you are here), Two
Ryuuji didn’t expect anything to happen. Nothing had happened in his other classes when he’d tried, but he had to do it for dragoon training, and he had to summon something. There wasn’t much point in the rocket if he couldn’t link it to a demon of some sorts. The water demons were the first on his list, and while he’d never felt particularly attached to the water kingdom, he drew the circle out, double checked the old book to confirm he’d done it right, stood up, and lifted his hand. With a quick prayer that this worked (he really couldn’t afford to fail this damn class) he cut his ring finger as neatly as he could and let a few drops of blood fall into the magic circle.
The professor nodded her approval at his magic circle, and that was really all Ryuuji expected to receive out of the process. There was no acing this class with his utter inability to summon any damn thing. He’d have to bust his ass on an enormous and in depth paper to try and salvage his grade.
There wasn’t a lot of time left in this class, but maybe he could get another circle drawn. If something happened with that one, there was still a prayer that he could pass.
Ryuuji shifted to grab his cloth to clear the failed circle and start on the next one, when a flicker of blue light appeared at the center of his overly complicated circle. It was roughly the size of his thumb, and was shaped sort of like a flame he’d expect to see at the top of a candle.
For a moment, he simply blinked at it in confusion, wondering if it was a trick of the lights or another sign that he really just needed glasses. He frowned, moved a little closer, and realized it was not a trick of the light. Confused more than anything, he crouched down to get a better look.
It flared as he drew near. It was giving off the tiniest amount of heat, and he found himself convinced it was a demon, and immediately curious about the type.
"What are you?" He couldn't help but ask, intrigued by the way his breath seemed to affect the flame.
“Oh!” The teacher called, coming back his way with a small smile. "What's that?"
Ryuuji abruptly straightened and pasted on the best smile he could manage. “I’m not certain, yet. I used a, uh, modified version of Nachtnebel’s circle.” It had to be modified because this sure as hell wasn’t the nixie that circle was supposed to summon.
The instructor peered down, frowning a little. The flame had shrunk as Ryuuji drew back. He didn’t feel any different either. Izumo made it sound like summoning should make him tired somehow.
“Feed it something more. That might not have been enough to sustain it. And maybe different components.” She straightened back up. “This shows some promise, Mr. Suguro.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He waited until she’d left to look back at the demon and the circle. It took him a moment to get his phone out of his pocket, but he hastily took as many pictures of the circle as he could. He had no idea what the hell this was, but it was going to work with him and he was going to pass this damn class. Whatever this flicker was, it was his summons now.
Shifting forward, Ryuuji took a breath and exhaled slowly as he pulled a few hairs from his head. (The flame flared again with his breath.) It felt like he should say something before giving the hairs, but all he could think of was eat this and that sounded stupid and he wasn’t going to draw attention to the fact that this wasn’t a water demon any more than he already had.
Ryuuji offered another breath instead, and dropped the hairs into the flame. It lapped them up, sparking and sizzling and burning it up.
It grew twice as large.
“More.”
Ryuuji could hear the word in his head, a growl more than anything else. Rough and raspy and real, something he hadn’t actually expected, despite knowing that this was a summons of some kind. It had him instinctually startling a little, his head jerking back as he tensed.
Holy shit. Ryuuji had actually summoned something. Fuck yeah!
“Hungry.”
Ryuuji didn’t know what the flame wanted. He was a bit loathe to give it more blood, and he didn’t know if hair was what the demon wanted, so he shifted back and reached for his bag, hauling the yakisoba bread he’d packed for his after workout snack out.
“Uh,” What did he say? Shiemi talked to Nee like he was a best friend, and Izumo summoned her familiars with a prayer (even though they talked ot her like she was their annoying little sibling.) “Try this?”
(Why had he made that a question? Ugh.)
Ryuuji set the bread down and pushed it towards the flames. They flared a bit, flickered over the edge of the bread, and then, almost as if had enjoyed the taste, it immediately spread over the entire offering, consuming it and leaving nothing behind. Not even a bit of ash.
Then the flame was abruptly extinguished and Ryuuji swore violently in his head as the teacher came back towards him. Little bastard demon had eaten his food and not given him anything.
“Mr. Suguro?”
Ryuuji turned his head, trying to look like he wasn’t worrying, and opened his mouth, only for there to be a pop, crack, and then a bright and hot flare of fire in the circle. He sprang back and out of it, reeling in surprise.
It wasn’t a small flame this time. It was a damn bonfire. The circle was confining it, but its flames were roaring towards the ceiling in a dramatic display.
Accompanied with that dramatic display was a screech in Ryuuji’s head that had his hands flying up to press against the sides of his head. Something that might have been freedom! was roared in his head, and something formed inside of the angry swirl of flames.
“Suguro!” Miss Yamada snapped, “Control your summons!”
Ryuuji had no idea how to do that outside of breaking the circle, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to do that. It’d be as good as admitting defeat and he was going to get this summons to listen to him and he was going to pass this damn class, and he was never going to have to bother with this stupid subject again.
“SHUT UP!” He mentally bellowed, hoping that would help something. The screaming in his head stopped, and a much angrier voice replaced it.
“Let me go!”
Well, whatever he’d summoned was intelligent as well as hot tempered. “I can’t right now, so just calm the hell down. You’ve been summoned. Stop the screeching and flame thing.”
There was another snarl in his mind, and then an abrupt silence. The flames receded, revealing a boy about his age. He had dark black hair, bright blue eyes, freckled skin, a long black tail with a tuft at the end kind of like a lion, and sharp claws. He was in a hoodie and slacks, barefoot, with a curious expression on his face.
Definitely not a nixie.
The books had said to introduce himself and assert his position, so he straightened up, broadening his stance and giving the demon a stern look. (Hopefully not a glare. He didn’t want to look mean. He needed this demon’s help to pass the damn class.)
“I am Ryuuji Suguro, and I have summoned you and have… mastery over you.” The hesitation wasn’t going to help anything, and those words didn’t sound right at all. Ryuuji firmed his gaze (definitely a glare now) and crossed his arms over his chest. “Tell me your name.”
The demon tilted its head in assessment before promptly giving a toothy smile. “I’m Rin, Ryuuji.”
Ryuuji’s cheeks went a bit pink. “Suguro. Call me Suguro. Now…” Miss Yamada was standing right next to him and judging him and he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know anything about Rin or how to link him to his firearms. He knew the steps but it was something he had to have Rin help him with. He needed to have a connection and an agreement with this demon.
Rin was just staring at him, that smile—smirk? Was it a smirk? —firmly in place. Rin was staring at him expectantly and seemed to know how much Ryuuji wasn’t sure what to do.
Ryuuji swallowed and stood straight. “Can you make me a small flame?”
Rin held his hand up and summoned a flame in his hand. A vaguely humanoid looking flame.
Ryuuji. Rin had made a small flame version of him. Cocky bastard. Damn it, that was funny and clever.
“Thank you,” he said, choosing not to acknowledge the joke in front of his professor. She was still watching them, but looked more approving now that Ryuuji was interacting with Rin and Rin seemed to be listening.
Rin looked a bit surprised at the thanks, and Ryuuji could work with that. He could work with Rin.
Almost as if he knew what Ryuuji was thinking, Rin gave him a fang filled smile, all bright and challenging. Ryuuji was excited to meet that challenge.
— — — — —
“Alright, Rin,” Ryuuji poured the peach juice into the center of the circle. “We got a  lot of ground to cover and no time to do it.” He had two weeks before the finals of this class and they had to be impressive for him to pass well.
The flame flared and sparked and devoured the juice before extinguishing and then reforming as the demon that looked like a teenager. He was in a hooded jacket today and a skull tshirt. The jeans were ripped, and he was still bare foot.
“Alright, you’re here. Now—”
“I’m not some kinda pet you can just call.”
Ryuuji immediately scowled. “You have to listen to me. I’m your master.”
Rin plopped down on the ground. “I may be stuck in here, but I don’t hafta do anything.”
“Do so!”
Rin shoved his nose up in the air. “I’m not doing anything. And I’m hungry.”
Ryuuji focused his will. As long as he was resolved… “Get up!”
“No!”
“You have to listen to me. I’m the tamer and I’m—”
Rin rolled his eyes and plopped over on his stomach, curling his legs up behind himself and propping a hand on his chin like he was about to listen to the latest gossip.
“I don’t have to listen to you. I just can’t turn on you. Now come on! Food in Gehenna is all shit. Just give me something?”
Ryuuji was not going to be bossed around by his own summons. He wasn’t Izumo.
“Fine!” he snapped, stomping away from the circle to his bag. Rin perked up, clearly getting the wrong idea, and slouched right back down as Ryuuji sat next to his bag. He pulled a book out and flipped it open, giving Rin another glare.
“Just sit there. You can’t get out of the circle until I figure out why it summoned you, and if you’re not going to work with me, then I’m going to figure out why I got you and not a nixie.”
Rin promptly sat up and glared. “What?! You’re just going to leave me trapped in here?”
Ryuuji ignored him and flipped through the pages to reach the section on Nachtnebel’s circle. He had to figure out what he’d done wrong first.
“Hey! Don’t ignore me!” There was a blinding burst of blue light to meet the complaint, enough that Ryuuji reared back a little.
Ryuuji had grown up with Shima, and he wasn’t about to make it that easy for Rin to distract him. He stubbornly looked back at his book, trusting the circle to hold Rin and knowing he just had to break the circle to unsummon the demon.
It was at least ten minutes before the flames dimmed down. Ryuuji spent most of it not reading anything and just glaring at the book pages. When they did dim down, the grumbling didn’t, but Ryuuji was able to concentrate on the symbols in front of him and compare them to the sketch of his circle.
There were three symbols he’d transcribed incorrectly. Three out of a hundred, and they’d apparently summoned whatever Rin was.
He looked up, frowning at Rin, and realized the demon had gone silent at some point. Rin was hunched over, covered with flames, and miserable looking. He didn’t look entirely solid either.
Something a bit guilty twisted through Ryuuji’s gut. He was responsible for the demon being stuck here, and he was responsible for why the demon looked like he did. He’d given Rin enough to materialize, but the containment circle was also keeping him from properly absorbing Ryuuji’s energy to sustain his full self.
Exhaling loudly, Ryuuji opened his bag up and peered inside until he found the bottle of ramune soda. He broke it open and got to his feet, immediately earning Rin’s attention.
“Don’t bite me,” he warned, and tentatively stuck his hand through the circle’s barrier. He tossed the bottle to Rin, spilling a bit of the soda, but Rin caught it and gave him a quizzical look.
“It’s a drink.”
“Why?” Rin asked in immediate suspicion that annoyed Ryuuji.
“Just drink it!” He couldn’t do anything nice.
Rin did, and immediately sneezed before looking at the drink in extreme curiosity. “It bubbles!”
“Fizz. Carbonation. It won’t hurt you.”
Rin took another swig and sneezed again before laughing a little. He promptly squashed the happy noise and gave Ryuuji a suspicious look before downing it all.
Rin wiped at his mouth with the back of his hand and gave an approving nod. Then, after a grumpy moment, he set the bottle down and crossed his arms with a glare to the side.
“Thanks,” he muttered like it hurt a little to say.
“No problem,” Ryuuji returned, and well, it was a start.
— — — — —
The trick to working with Rin was entirely food and drinks. Didn’t even seem to entirely matter what type, as long as Ryuuji brought some. Rin got snippy quickly if Ryuuji was too ‘bossy’ but he was quick to do what Ryuuji asked when it was presented like a challenge.
By the third summons, Ryuuji actually got Rin to summon a small ball of fire in his hands. Granted, Rin immediately threw it at him when he clapped in his approval, but he’d still summoned it because Ryuuji had told him to. Ryuuji gave him pocky for that and started to ramble about all the things he wanted to try and all the information he’d found on the blue flames (precious little) only to blush bright red when Rin laughed and called him a nerd. (But… he did it in a tone that was… friendly? Something that made Ryuuji blush a bit more and cross his arms in embarrassment and mutter about grades.)
The fourth summons was almost entirely amicable, and the fifth was entirely fun. He got another few fireballs sent his way, but they were clearly meant to miss, and Rin showed off by sending a few from his tail as well as his hands.
And then Ryuuji tried to summon Rin again in class. — — — — —
Miss Yamada was standing a meter or so away, watching as he drew out the modified circle. Ryuuji tried to appear confident, even though he was anything but. He still wasn’t even positive he was ever drawing the circle correctly. (Incorrectly? It was a modified version of a standard circle, so could it really be considered to ever be done correctly?
There was also Rin’s wildness to consider, but Ryuuji had to summon consistently to pass this class, and he was going to pass this damn class. If Rin made too much of a fuss, Ryuuji would summon him while he did his homework, make him sit there with nothing to do, and not give Rin any of the good snacks. Just the Mephy brand rice crackers that tasted like styrofoam.  (He wouldn't. That would be cruel even for the worst kind of demon. Rin seemed pretty far from the worst kind of demon.)
Blue flames consumed his offering of blood and a pack of pocky. Rin appeared with his apparently signature scowl and a lash of his tail. There was a teasing quality to it Ryuuji had seen in their last summons (when he’d dodged the fireball) and he returned it with his own smirk, only to watch Rin eyes dart to Miss Yamada and that teasing quality entirely evaporate. Rin’s arms crossed over his chest (he was wearing the hooded jacket with a faded band shirt today) and his claws dug into his arms as he glared off to the side with a low growl.
“Rin,” Ryuuji said as clearly as he could, confused by the obvious aggression (he’d bothered to get pocky. Rin seemed to like it best.) “Summon a fireball in your palm.”
Rin didn’t move for a very long moment. Far too long with Ryuuji’s teacher so close.
“Rin,” Ryuuji tried again, reaching into his bag for the soda. “Summon a fireball in your palm.”
Rin’s eyes met his, flaring with flames as his lip pulled back in a snarl. “No.”
What the hell? They’d gotten past this — or Ryuuji had hoped they had.
“Rin—”
Rin stomped his foot against the ground and screeched a loud NO! as a wall of flames shot towards Ryuuji. They stayed in the circle’s barrier, so at least he had proof he was still doing that correctly. Still, they roared up to the ceiling, leaving singe marks on the wooden ceiling and making everyone else rear back in shock and fear.
“Rin!” Ryuuji snapped, confused and worried. (And angry because they were in front of other people and Rin was deliberately being an ass.)
"No!" Rin growled back.
"Suguro," Miss Yamada frowned at him. "Do you not have control of this demon? You cannot waver."
"I have control." Ryuuji said even though he was certain he didn't. "Rin's just goofing. Right?" He gave Rin a hard look. This had to work and he needed Rin to at least pretend to be civil.
(And they'd sort of been getting along. He thought Rin had understood and been willing to help for food.)
Rin bared his fangs, and Ryuuji wasn't sure if it was at him or the teacher.
"Get him under control, Suguro, or we’ll have to get someone else to study his kingdom, class, and order.” Miss Yamada snapped her book shut and gave them both a disapproving look as Ryuuji's heart thumped in alarm. “And your grade will suffer.”

thoughts on free! s3? what do you think went wrong/right/what you wish it would’ve went etc
I could quite literally go on FOREVER about season 3 and y’know what you asked for it so I’m just gonna ramble until I feel good about it lmao.
Now first I have to say that I wholeheartedly love season 3 with the deepest passion in my bones. I genuinely didn’t think that we were ever going to GET a season 3 in the first place, so the fact that it exists is just... so meaningful to me as someone whose favorite franchise is Free! and someone whose life was saved by these dumbass swimmers.
I will say that season 3 isn’t what I wanted from it. I wanted it to be centered on Nagisa, Rei, Gou, Sousuke, Ai, and Momo. I love Haru with my entire being but I really really REALLY wanted to see a series centered on the Iwatobi trio. They’re so underrated and I felt like they were lowkey sidelined in Eternal Summer so I wanted to see them shine and grow together in their third year. But of course Kyoani has just been setting them aside more and more as time has gone on so I feel like that was nothing but a hopeless dream lmao. I have a lot of headcanons and AUs about what went on with everyone who was still in Iwatobi while the rest of the gang was in Tokyo. The little bits that Kyoani gave us of them were beautiful, I will admit. Episode 11 is my FAVORITE episode of season 3. The fact that Rei WON A NATIONAL RACE??? Like, come on. I wish we could’ve seen the work that he put in to even be able to do that in the first place. That moment where he ponders what he’ll be doing after high school really gets to me too because I would love to know what the fuck he and the others are gonna do. I wish we could’ve seen the moments in their third year that led to whatever decisions they will make. I wanted to see the Iwatobi trio go through the absolute wringer together lmao. I wanted angst I wanted to see their journey that led them to where they are now. I wanted to see more of them growing with the new trio too. I wanted to learn more about Gou and Sousuke’s past through their interactions in her third year. If the season was longer I feel like they could’ve had it be half the Iwatobi arc and half the Tokyo arc, y’know what I mean?
Nonetheless, I love season 3 for what it was. I’m so beyond happy that they brought in Asahi, Ikuya, Natsuya, and Nao, you have no idea. The High Speed! characters hold such a special place in my heart. I wish Asahi would’ve had more of an arc/character development though, and I wish Nao was more included. I think Natsuya’s character arc was my favorite of the whole season. Seeing the trash traveling man that he had become and his interactions with Rin and Sousuke really stuck with me for some reason. And that line that he had when he was talking to Ikuya and fucking crying like, “a dream to fight for my strength and pride, plain and simple.” That shit fucked me up bro. We all meme about Natsuya a lot but I feel like there’s a lot of deeper shit there that’s yet to be explored. When we met Ryuuji I was genuinely convinced that he was Ikuya and Natsuya’s father because it would explain a lot about Natsuya’s behavior. A trash dad who wasn’t really there for his family and just kinda fucked off to travel the world training swimmers until he found one that met his expectations? That would’ve added so much to Natsuya and Ikuya’s background stories and their character arcs. Like can you imagine? Natsuya not initially going into professional swimming because the fact that his father LEFT to find a swimmer to train instead of training his own damn son because he didn’t see that potential in him??? Natsuya being inspired by Ikuya to work hard to prove their father wrong??????? Nao punching Ryuuji square in the nose the moment he sees him???????????? A fucking gold mine that Kyoani could’ve dove into, but no he’s related to Shizuru lmao.
I could go on forever about Natsuya in season 3 cuz I just really, really loved his arc but I’m gonna keep rolling haha. Hiyori was probably the most unexpected thing from season 3 and I just... love him so much. Like his absolute snakey behavior gave me the same chills that that scene of Sousuke pushing Haru against a vending machine in episode 2 of Eternal Summer gave me. I LOVE that shit. The Free! antagonists just keep getting bitchier and bitchier lmao. I also relate to Hiyori on a deeper level. I too have been selfishly protective of my best friends in a way that... really just wasn’t the way to go. Like jeez Hiyori I understand how you feel but maybe let them talk to Ikuya at least once??? Chill with the possessiveness? Idk I know Hiyori is the source of a lot of discourse lol, but that’s just how I feel because of my own similar experiences with myself and others who’ve acted in a similar way. I do wish his beef at the other boys wasn’t solved by just fuckin... swimming with Haru lmfaoooooo. Like I wish they just would’ve added more to his conversation with Ikuya when he asked him to join the relay with him.
I was quite satisfied with Rin’s arc in season 3. It just like, made perfect sense to me I guess lmao. I know he wasn’t there much but I don’t know what else they could or should have done with him, if that makes sense. The fact that his coach is Ai’s uncle is just the best thing ever too lmao.
I was also very happy with Haru’s arc actually!! Seeing how much he has grown makes me feel like a proud mom. Ya boi is tired of the bullshit and the miscommunication haha. Of course I’ll always wish he didn’t go into pro swimming but alas, gotta deal with it I guess. I love his dynamic with Ryuuji and the way that he has dealt with pro swimming though. And his decision to go into the individual medley absolutely made me lose my mind. I didn’t know I needed to see him swim the other strokes until it happened and I just, I loved that so muchhh.
I alsooooo enjoyed Ikuya’s arc. Seeing someone from your past again like that can 100% have that effect on you. I just kinda wish we understood more about like, why he just randomly faints while swimming sometimes? I feel like they didn’t solidly explain it? Cuz I don’t think it was always from overworking himself. Idk maybe I’m just a dumbass and remembering incorrectly.
Kisumi deserved better. YOU CAN’T TELL ME THIS BOY DOESN’T HAVE UNDERLYING ANGST THAT KYOANI HASN’T DELVED INTO. He gave us that line of “We’ll never make friends like the ones we had back then” and then him worrying about whether or not there was anything he could do to help with the Ikuya situation. This boy feels left out and you can’t tell me otherwise and it is 100% because of the fact that he’s not a swimmer. Someone give this boy a basketball team that he can experience that kind of bond with PLEASE. I AM BEGGING ON MY KNEES!!!
Makoto also deserved better. Like, okay, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved his arc with the kids and Nao and all that. I love his new dream. BUT!!! Kyoani has yet to go into depth with his insecurities with Haru. I’m still not over that damn dream he had on that bus. All we got in season 3 was Makoto’s aNGSTY looks when it came to his relationship with Haru lmao. GIVE MAKOTO A BIGGER ROLE AND A BIGGER ARC DAMMIT. He’s one of the most popular characters I’m surprised his angst hasn’t been touched on more. This dumbass just needs to stop holding things in i SWEAR TO GAWD.
I thought the inclusion of Albert was kinda weird, dunno what the point of him is aside from making Haru shake in his bones. Kinjou is definitely interesting. He scares me lmao, but I am here for that. Give us an antagonist who is just absolutely unhinged at this point LMAO. I have some headcanons about him too but I feel like the new movie coming up is going to crush my dreams soooo yeah.
Isuzu is a goddess. I’m so happy she’s finally here and she has a name and a FACE. We learned that the Mikoshiba bros had a sister before we even knew that Momo existed lmao (Sei mentioned her in a drama cd from season 1). I almost thought they were never going to give her to us but she’s here and she’s beautiful and she’s everything that I wanted her to be. I’m so happy she thinks Gou is cute and that GOU LIKES HER and I just ugh yes thank you so much Kyoani I never expected that we’d actually get this but I’m so happy we have it. I hope she goes to Hidaka Uni and gets to race Haru like she wanted haha. And I’m so happy we got to see her swim! Our first in-anime female swimmer with a name. I love her.
Speaking of FEMALE SWIMMERS. Sighhhhhh.... My biggest disappointment. Aki Yazaki. Where is she? We deserve her!! I promise we do!! She was SUCH an important character in the High Speed! novels and kyoani decided that she just doesn’t exist anymore lmao (biggest reason why I’m not the biggest fan of the Starting Days movie). At this point I’ve lost hope that she’ll ever be included in the anime, and it makes me so sad. I love her so much and there’s so much potential for an amazing beautiful story arc with her if she reunited with the boys. I don’t think we’re going to get a season 4, (the new movie is scaring me making me think it’s the end of the series with the way it’s been advertised...) but if we DID get one I imagine it beginning with Haru walking through a snowy day, huddling close to himself to shelter from the cold, when he passes by a tall figure and catches a glimpse of familiar caramel hair with a loose little braid peeking out from behind one ear and a large scarf that has gotten quite messed up over years of wear and tear, a memory clicks in his mind like a light switch and he stops in his tracks to turn around and let a long forgotten name slip from his lips: “Yazaki Aki?” ... cue opening sequence. LIKE WOULDN’T THAT BE SO AMAZING???????? I WOULD FUCKING SHIT MYSELF OKAY YOU DON’T UNDERSTANDDDD. Aki is one of my favorite characters I’m so mad she wasn’t in season 3. I’m also mad that Satomi Nii wasn’t there either like!!! She would make a great trio with Ikuya and Hiyori that’s all I’m sayinggggg. I would probably start crying if either of them showed up at some point like genuinely I would just be a mess sobbing on the floor. ALSO I FEEL LIKE GOU AND ISUZU WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM LIKE PLS GIVE ME THE GIRLS THAT WE DESERVE!!!
The art style of season 3 was pretty good. The only thing that bothered me about it was how fucking WIDE the characters’ shoulders were sometimes. Especially with the big bois like Makoto and Sousuke. Like please god no stop that. I’m always gonna miss the art style from season 1 tho, the crazy expressions n shit that were there were just too GOOD lmao. I feel like in season 3 they kind of attempted to bring that back but it just wasn’t executed the same and done to the same extent. R.I.P. the comedy from season 1, it will be forever missed.
I love the opening and ending themes, always. So fucking good. I’m so happy all the characters were included in the end theme animation sequence. I’ll never get over Gou and her BEAUTY.
ANYWAYS. Those are my thoughts in the general sense. Idk if I forgot anything because I have so many thoughts that’re all unorganized haha. If anyone wants me to talk in more detail about anything specific I am soooooo down! Thank you for sending in this ask, talking about this show makes me happy hehe.

A♥️, 3♥️, 4♥️, 6♥️, 8♥️, 9♥️, 10♥️, Q♥️, K♥️, all of the clubs and diamonds, 2♠️, 3♠️, 5♠️, 6♠️, 7♠️, 8♠️, 9♠️, 10♠️, J♠️, Q♠️, K♠️ I'M KINDA SORRY FOR SENDING SO MANY BUT why choose if i don't really have to i'm craving that iwasweetie content,
👀 here we go
A♥️ - Who was the first person your muse ever fell in love with?
While Shuu had noticed people’s attractiveness before, the first person he ever actually crushed on was Kawara Ryuuji.
3♥️ - How would your muse react to a confession of love?
He’d be shocked, then either flatted or elated (depending on whether he reciprocates) but also a little dubious. He wouldn’t straight up call you a liar, but he would be a little bit like “Are you sure though?”
4♥️ - What are your muse’s thoughts on starting/raising a family?
Shuu likes the fantasy of Having A Family™ in the sense that it’s supposed to be a sign you have your life together. He definitely at least wants to get married. He’s not the kind of person who needs to have kids, but he’s not strictly opposed either. He’s incredibly nervous about the idea, but if you have enough confidence to make up for it and it’s important enough to you, you can probably convince him.
6♥️ - What sort of charity work has your muse done?
He has recurring donations for several charities of different kinds, enough to be a not insignificant part of his paycheck. He doesn’t live in an apartment as nice as he could technically afford and he doesn’t spend a lot on himself, so whatever is leftover after bills and savings is usually donated.
As for actual work, he’ll lend his time to just about anyone. Of course, health-related charities are closest to his heart.
8♥️ - How well does your muse perform in social situations?
Not always the best. He’s kind of an awkward ninny, and he knows it. He can actually have periods of confidence (and even... dare I say it... charisma) if he knows what he’s talking about really well. Otherwise, he’s not usually actively bad but if he starts tripping up, it will probably get worse before it gets better.
9♥️ - Has your muse ever had unrequited feelings for someone?
Oh, you betcha. Kawara Ryuuji being the most notable. Of course, Shuu never actually asked, so he assumes it was unrequited. But the sad thing is he probably wouldn’t have wanted his feelings to be returned because he wouldn’t want to be a homewrecker. Then again, that’s just what he would say now. Whether he would actually have that self-restraint in the moment is up for debate.
10♥️ - What was the last party or social event your muse went to?
A group of friends invited him with them to a party. It sounded like he was going to get laid but then everyone got fucked up on drugs and he got the hell out of dodge when they decided that throwing glassware at each other was the cool new sport.
Q♥️ - Who is someone special that your muse always thinks about?
Hitori, honestly. I know I’m HitoShuu trash but really, that guy just means so much to him.
K♥️ - Who does your muse look up to as a role model?
^^^
A♣️ - What’s your muse’s strongest talent?
He’s a smart cookie! He’s better at some subjects than others (math is his weakness, sorry Hitori) but if he puts enough effort in, he can pick things up pretty damn quick.
2♣️ - What topics of conversation does your muse enjoy the most?
If you start talking about microbiology you better be ready to be there all day because he will not stop.
3♣️ - How creative is your muse?
He doesn’t consider himself an artist at all. He’s not the kind of person “understands” art. And he doesn’t really have any artistic talent at all. But you do have to have some creativity to be an effective researcher, so don’t discredit him too much!
4♣️ - What does your muse have the most passion for?
He loves pretty much all sciences, but if I had to name just one field it would be toxicology.
5♣️ - What would your muse change about their current lifestyle?
He wants to be healthier, and he wants to try to be more in-tune with himself. Meaning that he wants to figure out what he wants because he’s not sure.
6♣️ - How do your muse’s “gut feelings” usually turn out?
He can be a little dense, so they’re not usually very helpful.
7♣️ - Has your muse ever felt “trapped”, either figuratively or literally?
The most trapped he’s ever felt was when he was in his bad depression. He was sure he’d never be able to get out of there.
Other than that, does bondage count?
8♣️ - What is your muse the most stubborn about?
That you’re a beautiful person who deserves to be happy.
9♣️ - What is your muse’s proudest accomplishment?
Well, he doesn’t like to brag, but getting hired for a job at a leading research facility at seven years old is a hell of an accomplishment.
10♣️ - When was the last time your muse took a vacation or trip?
You’re so funny.
J♣️ - Who does your muse trust the most?
Ding dong it’s Hitori again.
Q♣️ - Do other people consider your muse charming?
Some may consider his awkwardness to be endearing.
K♣️ - How important is integrity to your muse?
Extremely. Dishonesty is one thing that really bothers him.
A♦️ - What is the most important message your muse has ever received?
The one from the Hawk Party telling him they wanted to pull him out of school to work for them.
2♦️ - How important is money to your muse?
It’s nice to have, certainly, and he appreciates being able to splurge on himself once in a while. But he really just wants to be able to pay his bills.
3♦️ - How does your muse handle indecision?
He tries to think things through as logically and objectively as he can. He’ll even make a pro/con list if he has to.
4♦️ - Is your muse more of the patient or instant gratification type?
It depends. He’s usually pretty patient, unless it’s something like learning a new skill. Since he’s used to being so smart, he can get frustrated pretty quickly if he doesn’t pick something up quick enough. Intellectually he knows that he just needs to practice and that he can’t be a savant at everything he touches, but emotionally the feeling of being inept at something really upsets him.
5♦️ - How often does your muse change plans?
He prefers to put extra effort into a plan and then feel confident sticking with it than run on instinct and change shit up on the fly. But he’s not too much of a fool to know when changing plans is the right course of action.
6♦️ - Is your muse responsible with their money?
Yes, he takes it very seriously. He keeps careful track of all his bills and always sets a certain percentage into savings.
7♦️ - When was your muse the most down on their luck?
He considers his depression to be his low point obviously, but he would say that being born to real shitty parents and then almost getting blown up was a pretty unlucky way to start his life.
8♦️ - Has your muse ever received money or gifts from a mysterious benefactor?
He has found beans on his desk on Legumentine’s. A considerate gesture, or a secret admirer...? Who knows?
9♦️ - How much money does your muse spend on average?
I can’t find enough information to estimate a number for you unfortunately, but as far as luxuries go: he tends to spend little overall with small periods of splurging every so often. Not splurging as in buying a new car, but more like getting a few new shirts, or getting that cute skirt he saw in a window, or taking a trip to the bookstore.
10♦️ - How financially successful is your muse?
Honestly? He’s not doing too bad. His apartment is small but nice, and as mentioned before he could actually probably afford an even better one if he cared to. And since he doesn’t spend a whole lot, he’s got a respectable amount in savings by now.
J♦️ - Who does your muse do the most business with?
Store-wise? Aside from the grocer, probably the bookstore.
Q♦️ - Has your muse ever been gossiped about or participated in gossip?
Shuu hates gossiping, but I’m sure he’s been the subject of it. Especially when he worked with Tohri, like are you kidding me? Every day with that nonsense. And who knows what kind of rumors the students come up with.
K♦️ - If your muse were to start their own business, what would it be?
Either a pharmacy or, considering he doesn’t bake nearly as often as he wishes he did, a cake shop.
2♠️ - How often does your muse wish to be left alone?
He is an introvert, so he’ll get tired and stressed if he goes too long without privacy. He’d like to get a good few hours to himself every day if possible. It still counts if he’s working.
3♠️ - Does your muse ever let anyone see them cry?
Shuu hates to cry in front of people, and even if it’s someone he trusts he’ll still feel bad about it. But he’s a sensitive baby, so...
5♠️ - Has your muse ever had to change their lifestyle in a major way?
The biggest change was when he lost his job at the Hawks. Once he was ready to start looking for a new job, he decided that it needed to be something he wouldn’t obsess over. He knew he needed to start having a life outside of work. That’s been one hell of a process.
6♠️ - Does your muse believe in fate/destiny?
He doesn’t really care either way. He’s just trying to get through the day.
7♠️ - What’s a hard truth that your muse has to learn/has learned?
Don’t assume that there’s alway going to be a “later”. Life hits you hard and fast.
8♠️ - What does your muse work the hardest for?
Figuring out how to be happy is his biggest challenge right now. Not that he’s always in the piss bucket and never has a day of levity in his life, but he’s still in the process of getting himself together, mentally.
9♠️ - Has your muse ever felt forced to change?
His parents instilled a lot of things in him. He might say it didn’t have an effect on him, but those are some of the most formative years of your life. His mother in particular definitely said and did a lot of things that shoved him into a mold (that he never would have fit in) of what he was supposed to be.
10♠️ - How does your muse cope with grief?
He doesn’t, not really. He bottles it up and hides it away when he’s around anyone else, and then has a breakdown when he’s alone. But he won’t want to be alone - chances are he’ll throw himself into work.
J♠️ - Who would your muse most likely end up in jail with?
He’d probably end up hanging out with the wrong crowd, feel pressured to stand by and get caught up as an accomplice.
Q♠️ - Does your muse manipulate others easily or are they easily manipulated?
If you know enough about him to know his buttons, it’s almost scary how pliable he is.
K♠️ - What is one thing your muse considers a grave injustice?
That more people don’t realize how biology is.

Same as before, links to my top EDs and lotsa word explaining them
Endings
Owarimonogatari [ED] [Full Song] - There’s actually two different endings in Owarimonogatari but they use the same song and I personally prefer the Shinobu Mail ED a little more. I actually like the Nisemonogatari ED song a bit more, but this one beats it by an inch because I love the animation in this ED. Shinobu is one of my favourite Monogatari characters and I think this ending captures a lot of who she is. It also contrasts the first ED I mentioned, that ends in a almost a high note, whereas I find Shinobu’s version ends almost tragically, all alone under a bright red sky.
Toradora ED2 [ED] [Full Song] - Toradora is one of my all time favourite anime, so I was glad one of the EDs made my list since neither of it’s OPs did. Most of my memories of this ending come from me sobbing my damn eyeballs out. It’s a very calming song to cry to, let me tell you. As for the ED itself, I enjoy the little bits of Ryuuji baking, and the almost pastel colour scheme it adopts is really fitting. I have very fond memories of this anime and very fond memories of this ED.
Space Patrol Luluco [ED] [Full Song] - Speaking of EDs I have fond memories of crying through, Space Patrol Luluco. God this anime took me by surprise. As did this ED! I wasn’t expecting a short to have such a fantastic, memorable ending at all. I’ve listened to the song so many times at this point and I never get tired of it. And I desperately want my own paper Luluco. The ending is a love song, and in a lot of ways the anime is a love story, so it all goes together.
Punch Line [ED] [Full Song] - Yeaaaah this is the second ED I’ve listed were it’s accompanying OP is on my Top 10 list. And it’s also not going to be the last either. Chances are if I enjoyed the OP enough for it to be on my top 10, I’m gonna enjoy the ED just as much. That’s definitely the case for this one. My feelings for Punch Line’s ED are very similar to it’s OP, I like the song but not necessarily as much as I enjoy other things on this list. What makes the ending for me is it’s animation. I love the art style they chose to use and it’s bright, happy colours appeal to me a lot. I also love how friendly it feels. It hits a lot of things I look for in EDs.
Niea_7 [ED] [Full Song] - I love this ED so much I was willing to use the only (fairly low quality) source I could find of it for my gifs. I think the ED is good by itself but to truly understand the emotions I get while listening to the song you really need to watch the anime. Every time I listen I get warm nostalgic feelings from my childhood watching this anime. It’s also a lovely song to get work done to.
Last Exile [ED] [Full Song] - You’ll probably notice that a common theme for this list is very calm, soothing songs. A lot of anime I watch tend to be pretty high tension or dramatic so ending in a calm song does a lot to help take some weight of your shoulders. This is a good example of that. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in an anime, and the ethereal imagery of Al cut with photos of Claus and Lavie’s childhood are both heartwarming and somewhat tearjerking, the more you learn of the trio. And once again, you can find shots of those beautiful beautiful airships and I’ll always love that.
Twelve Kingdom [ED] [Full Song] - It honestly killed me that the Twelve Kingdoms OP didn’t make it to my top 10. This bloody anime is my second favourite anime and I voted it out. So to make up for it, I’ll post the OP here instead. Now that that’s out of the way, I love this ED. It’s a very simple ED but Youko’s journey in Twelve Kingdoms is very much a journey and this ending shows that very well. I love how unique each kingdom is and the imagery of a wagon passing by. Once again, this is an ED that has a very warm spot in my heart.
And this is where I’d put the Trapeze ED... If I had one! I was able to find the song at the very least. Still would have liked to have been able to include the ED itself though.
Cowboy Bebop [ED] [Full Song] - Like Tank!, this song is pretty famous though probably not quite as much so. As the name suggests, it has a much more bluesy tone then Tanks! loud jazz, but it fits Cowboy Bebop just as well. The ending also goes a long way in revealing parts of Spike that the anime doesn’t go much into until later, and uses still images and black, whites and reds to do it which gives it a very striking look.
Samurai Champloo [ED] [Full Song] - Where as the opening of Samurai Champloo show’s its much more action oriented parts, and stylish, flashy animation, it’s ED show’s how at the end of the day it’s about one girl’s wish to find a Samurai who Smells of Sunflowers. Despite it’s appearances Samurai Champloo is definitely a tragedy in a lot of ways, and it’s ED shows that quite solemnly.
Flip Flappers [ED] [Full Song] - The most recent anime on either list, I think everyone can agree how much Flip Flappers blows you away. No matter people’s opinions on the anime itself it’s almost universally agreed by the anime community that Flip Flappers ED was amazing. This anime ended up being my favourite anime of 2016 and it’s ED no doubt played a roll in that. It was always a treat to look forward to every week.

May I suggest a lil fic bit thats a tad bit spicy? Maybe smth with a bit of long distance ? Like Ryuuji has to travel for a mission/exorcism and when he gets back a few weeks later neither Rin nor fireball can keep their hands on Ryuuji? That or its the other way around and Ryuuji cant keep his hands off Rin bc he missed him as well, I rarely see any Ryuuji centered fics when it comes to this stuff
Absolutely! I went the Ryuuji route, because you're entirely correct about him not getting to play that role often :D This is the tumblr safe version, but there will be a full scene coming to Ryuuji's Guide for Demonic Boyfriends: Bedroom Edition, soon ;)
-- -- -- -- --
Everyone always assumed it was Rin, which baffled Bon because he had never been subtle about how much he was attracted to the halfling. Hell, his friends and family had been teasing him about it for years, and it was embarrassing but expected.
It was a fact. Rin liked to cook, Kuro liked sunbeams, and Bon was hungry for Rin. Rin was hot as hell (sometimes literally), gifted with his hands, mouth, and tail, and Bon was left satisfied with all aspects of that part of their life together. Fireball or Rin, it didn’t matter which part of his lover was at the forefront, they were fantastic and wild and creative, and Bon was all too happy to get the look from his partner and ditch whatever they were doing in favor of finding a remotish place to respond to that burning hunger.
He got questions about what it was like — people were endlessly curious and it wasn’t like information on sex with demons was easy to find. (Bon knew it was almost impossible because damn it all, he had looked and come up almost dry and he only accepted information from Lewin when he was really desperate, and it was honestly easier to just find out information with Rin than face those conversations.) He got questions about how wild Rin was in the sack and what it was like to ‘tame’ a demon —always in a joking tone that did nothing to hide their obvious curiosity — and he never answered those because it was none of their damn business what his partner was like in the sack.
They always came at it like Rin was the one that would obviously be hungry, and like Bon was the one that would have to bend in some way to satisfy his insatiable appetite.
They were idiots who couldn’t see. Yeah, Bon didn’t exactly go for much more than handholding in public, but he let himself look, and it didn’t take much to realize that he was the one wound around Rin’s fingers, and not the other way around.
He had wanted Rin from the moment he lit up that diseased castle, and yeah, that meant so much more than the kisses and the sex, but that shit was part of it too.
— — — — —
The problem was, they didn’t separate often (they didn’t have to because they worked really well together) but when they did, it was always agony. Rin barely ever remembered to text, and distance didn’t help his focus with that. When he did think about it, Rin’s first instinct would be to try and call to make up for the forgetting but Rin — God love him — had never been able to keep up with timezones, and it would almost always be the middle of the night for Bon. Bon who would get up anyway because he was head over heels for the boy and would take whatever he could get even if it was the dead of night. Hearing Rin’s voice helped to soothe the worry that wouldn’t fully go away until Rin was in his arms again, and even if he wasn’t sleeping, he’d feel calmed while they talked.
Sleeping was always hard when he was alone — even though he’d spent more of his life alone in bed than sharing with Rin — so he was tired and lonely and horny, and it all built up and built up until he was angrily drinking the most caffeinated green tea he could find and glaring at the clock that refused to move faster and bring his partner back.
(Lewin would always notice, and he would tease, and Bon deserved extra vacation days for not just punching that obnoxious smirk right off his face.)
Now…
[Got the ticket! See you soon (*^3^)/~♡]
Bon stared at the text and his when?! response and tried to remind himself that he loved Rin dearly and he couldn’t change the things that made Rin… well, Rin. Rin was spontaneous and passionate and absolutely terrible at keeping track of things that weren’t in his direct eyeline.
It had been half an hour, and no response. There wasn’t going to be a response most likely, and he should just be grateful that Rin had sent that much.
Bon chugged the rest of his tea, got up from his desk, put in a request for a sick day, and left the Kyoto office to get some groceries — Rin would want to cook as he rambled about the mission and there wasn’t much in the apartment right now — and to try and work off some of the excessive energy in his own gut so he didn’t just attack his partner the moment he walked through the door.
There was still no text by the time he’d put away the groceries, so he got Kuro and they went out for a run together, Kuro side-eying him the entire way and muttering out a series of teasing meows that had Bon blushing and wishing he could speak cat sidhe just to defend himself.
He wasn’t running only for that reason. He also didn’t like hanging around the empty apartment. It was too quiet and big without Rin. The halfling brought it to life and it just felt incomplete when it was just them.
He got back, still no text and still no Rin, and plopped down on the couch to try and read away his impatience.
It was an hour and half a crime novel later when there was a knock on the door.
“Ryuuji?! I forgot—”
Bon didn’t give him a chance to finish the statement (Rin always forgot where he’d put his keys and couldn’t remember the spell Bon had put on them so he could find them) before he was at the door, undoing the lock, and tugging the door open to see Rin standing in front of him with the biggest of smiles.
“Ryuu—” Bon reached forward and fisted Rin’s coat “—oh!” and used that to jerk Rin into the apartment.
Bon got his other hand on Rin’s face, curling around his jaw and drawing him closer and tilting his face up so he could look at him properly. There didn’t seem to be any bruises or new scars, but it was always hard to tell with how fast Rin healed.
Rin laughed, a delighted little bubble of noise, and wrapped his arms around Bon’s waist, cuddling close as his tail took care of shutting the door and flipping the deadbolt. Bon was thoroughly scented in a matter of seconds as they drew closer.
“Heya, cute stuff,” Rin said, grinning up at him while Bon ran his hand over Rin’s arm to check for any wounds there. “Don’t worry. I didn’t get hit.”
Relief was immediate and had him crushing Rin closer. He took a moment to just breathe in the scent of him, like a campfire with something a little dangerous, and nuzzled his cheek as Rin’s tail wagged cheerfully.
“Promise,” Rin said, and that wall that Bon needed.
“Then in that case,” he used the hand he had on Rin’s face to pull him into a kiss while his other hand released Rin’s uniform to grab his ass instead, squeezing through the fabric of his slacks and trying to decide if he wanted to heft Rin up and get those long legs around his waist, or if he wanted to get him in the living room and on the couch. The bedroom was too far away.
Rin inhaled sharply and flickered with flames as his right hand shot up to tangle in Bon’s hair and pull. Which was not and had never been fighting fair. It pulled a growl out of his throat that had Rin gasping.
Bon hefted Rin up by the back of his thighs and twisted on the spot, getting a bit tangled in Rin’s tail as it swung low and tried to curl around his leg, and Rin’s legs wound tight around his hip, but he managed to avoid falling and only banged the wall a little as he got them out of the entry and into the living room. He made a beeline for the couch, handling Rin’s weight easily as his partner tugged at their clothes, getting them open (there was an almost endless sound of ripping Bon just couldn’t care about) and he kicked out with his foot to find the couch while he shoved his tongue in Rin’s mouth and dug his fingers into his boyfriend’s strong thighs. He didn’t care about his clothes. He just needed Rin closer. Needed him as close as he could possibly get him.
He finally found the couch and fell onto it with a dull thud and a temporary ‘ooph’ from Rin that involved them not kissing for an agonizing moment. He made up for it by kissing the spot under Rin’s ear that had always made him flicker, and it still did. Enough that Bon could feel claws digging into his shoulder, and then shredding away the remaining fabric between their chests.
He’d worn old stuff, and Rin was the one that would have to put in the new uniform request, so he was fine with Rin destroying them. He’d lost countless clothes to his boyfriend.
“Missed you,” he growled, sucking a mark to Rin’s jaw and rocking his hips forward against Rin’s, the clothes frustrating but the friction perfect. Hot hands dragged up his back, gripping tight as Rin’s whines rose up in the air and his flames flared. “So fucking much.”
“Ryuuji,” Rin cried out, trying to get him to move off Rin’s neck and up to his lips, but the mark wasn’t nearly big enough. It had been weeks, and Ryuuji wasn’t leaving until Rin felt every damn second of that time. Rin’s cries were exactly as he remembered them — as if he could possibly forget even one of them — sweet and guttural and needy and aggressive at the same time as they rocked against each other, fumbling at the last of their clothes, trying to get Rin’s shoes off while refusing to break apart.
Rin, apparently done with patience, used his demonic strength to haul Bon back up so they could kiss fervently, hands tangling in hair and groping skin and hips working as Bon finally got one of the boots off and tossed it somewhere to be cared about later, and Rin’s leg hooked over his hip, heel digging into his lower back to push him closer, and—
With a growl, Rin rolled them over. Right off the couch. Bon fell onto his back with a yelp and Rin followed right after, still entirely wrapped up in him and knocked into Bon’s chest, sending most of his air out with a whoosh.
“Sorry!” Rin yelped, struggling to sit up. Bon locked his arms around Rin before he could get away.
“I don’t care,” he wheezed, arching up to reach Rin’s lips again, “I don’t care at all, and you’re not going anywhere.”
He rolled them back over, pushing Rin into the cheap carpet as he found his lips again, kissing him and pulling at Rin’s belt until he finally got it undone.
“Fuck it,” Rin growled, and then the remaining clothes were no longer a problem and Bon finally got Rin fully in his arms and against him again.
— — — — —
Rin was trying to cook their meal, made a bit difficult by the fact that Ryuuji was hanging off him.
Not that Rin minded. He liked when Ryuuji got handsy. He liked it when his boyfriend clung to him and held him and cuddled him. Besides, he was strong enough to drag them both around, and yakisoba was something he could probably make with only one hand.
Though it was kind of hard to keep from burning it when Ryuuji was kissing his neck like that. Bastard knew what that did to Rin’s concentration and how hard it made it to keep the flames in.
A nip had him shivering and tilting his head back with an interested hum as Ryuuji’s arm tightened around his middle, squeezing him back against Ryuuji’s bare chest. The skin on skin was soothing, and had a purr rumbling from his throat. He stirred his noodles absently, twitching a little as Ryuuji nipped his jaw, and couldn’t quite stop his tail from slipping between Ryuji’s legs, curling around his boyfriend’s calf and squeezing affectionately.
Still, he blinked his eyes and forced his mind into gear. Food, and then more. Ryuuji had probably been eating those shitty boxed meals and Rin wasn’t letting that slide. His man was going to eat a real meal.
Ryuuji’s hand slipped under Rin’s apron, palm pressed against his stomach and fingers splayed wide.
“Smells delicious,” Ryuuji said, resting his chin on Rin’s shoulder and peering down at the food for all of a second before seeming to get distracted by Rin’s ear. That had Rin’s shoulders immediately rising in self-defense and a flicker of flames curling over his body as his knees went a bit weak.
“None of that,” he laughed, whacking Ryuuji’s hip with the chopsticks and getting a little sauce and a stray noodle on his pajama bottoms. “Dinner then dessert.”
“Can’t blame me for being hungry, babe.”
“Can and will.” Rin tilted his head and gave his boyfriend a kiss, all light and happy to be home. To be home and wanted. He felt safe — he was never in danger on the missions, not with his powers — but he felt like he could be himself here. He always felt at home with Ryuuji. Like he could be himself. Ryuuji wanted him to be himself. Ryuuji had seen all his bits and liked it. He wanted it.
(That was obvious from the mostly healed hickeys he’d been covered with, and the fantastic greeting he’d received.)
Ryuuji kissed him back, reaching up to cup his face because Ryuuji liked to hold him when they kissed. It had thrilled him when they were young, and now it made him feel grounded. Secure.
He pulled away before Ryuuji could deepen it — he was feeding the boy, like it or not — and grinned.
“Almost done. Just gotta get—” Rin shuffled over, dragging Ryuuji with him, and reached for the cabinet. He was always a little too short for this shelf. “—the—hey, koala. If you’re gonna be hanging around, could you grab that bowl?”
Ryuuji, head still resting on Rin’s shoulder, peered up at the shelf. “The big one?”
Rin nodded and Ryuuji got it without letting go of Rin. If anything, Rin was hugged tighter. He couldn’t help a laugh, happiness all bubbly and bright inside him. Warmer than his flames, but too big to hold in like they usually were.
He added a few finishing touches and poured it all in the big bowl. Then, hefting it up with one hand, he turned in Ryuuji’s arms to push up on his heels and press a long kiss to Ryuuji’s lips before breaking away and sauntering towards their couch.
He could feel Ryuuji’s eyes on his ass, and if he put a bit of an extra sway into his hips, well he’d blame it on his wagging tail.
Ryuuji followed right after him, settling down close on the couch, leaning in for another kiss, and relieving Rin of the bowl. He set it on the table, and then, as if it was just easy, he scooped Rin up and plopped him back down in his lap.
“I said food first,” Rin couldn’t help but point out even as his tail wagged wildly and gave himself away. Ryuuji’s arms looped around his waist, and his boyfriend shrugged as he gave a playful smile.
“I know. I just wanna hold you. I’m not trying anything.”
Rin nodded his approval, still grinning a bit silly, and reached for their dinner.
“Yet.”
Rin whacked him with his tail and barely resisted a laugh. He hated leaving, but God, he loved coming back and feeling wanted. Feeling missed.
He set the bowl in his lap and scooped up a few noodles, lifting them to Ryuuji’s mouth and waiting a beat for him to open his mouth. He did, eyes hungrily locked on Rin as he squeezed him a bit closer.
Rin could really only follow that bite up with a kiss. Ryuuji wasn’t the only hungry one, and it really had been a long trip.

This is your ask for the cuddle pile prompt!
Here is you cuddle pile fill <3
Summary: Yukio has been neglecting his sleep again, and neither Rin nor Ryuuji are going to let it slide by.
— — (- o – ) zzZ — —
The problem with all-nighters was that you were exhausted after them and still had to function through the next day. Ryuuji tried not to do them often, but it had been unavoidable yesterday. Exorcist assignments had come at the worst time, and neither him nor Yukio had had the time to finish the task. They'd had to join forces for the project and it had taken almost the entire night. They'd finished at four in the morning and (somehow) gotten an approving look from their teacher for the assignment. He hadn't gotten a chance to sleep with all the other homework he had to catch up on, and he had so many regrets.
Ryuuji had promised Rin to help him with his homework this afternoon, and despite how fantastic his bed sounded and how soft Rin's looked, Ryuuji was forcing his eyes to stay open (he might have had too wide a stare and looked a little crazy, but it was working) and forcing himself to focus on the problems.
Ryuuji did not know how Yukio was still awake. His friend had confided that he hadn't had more than six hours this entire week, and it was already Thursday. Ryuuji would be dead. He was going to be in bed by eight tonight, and he didn't care what plans he had to cancel for that.
"You're doing good," Ryuuji promised, squinting at the problem and trying to will it into making sense. The words were blurring together. He needed to grab his glasses out, but damn it, they were in his bag across the room and that journey seemed impossibly long.
"Am I?" Rin preened under the praise and sat straighter. He eyed his timer, noticed he only had two minutes left, and promptly sprang back to his paper. He quickly jotted down the steps and scrawled out his answers messily in a hasty way that made Ryuuji feel all the more tired.
The buzzer went off — Ryuuji's perception of time always went wonky when he was tired — and Rin slapped his hand down on it cheerily. "Done!" He declared, beaming as his eyes shot up to meet Ryuuji's.
Yukio pulled the paper close — was his hand trembling or was Ryuuji seeing things? He really needed to grab those glasses — and peered down at it.
Ryuuji gave Rin a high-five because his boyfriend was a dork and always wanted a high-five for finishing his work.
"Brilliant, sunshine. Now we're—"
"Yukio, don't drink that." Rin's tone was low and growly. The way it only got when he was really grumpy and serious. Ryuuji looked to see what Yukio wasn't to drink and saw another one of those concentrated coffee energy drinks. The things that smelled like death and tasted like acid. There were three empty cans by Yukio's arm, and —oh. No, Ryuuji hadn't been imaging the tremble. Yukio was full on trembling.
"Don't boss me, Rin. I know what I can—Rin!"
Rin knocked the can out of Yukio's grip, sending it flying into the wall with a loud clatter and not caring that the 'coffee' spilt all over the floor.
"I know what I can handle!" Yukio snapped.
"No, Rin's right. You've already had too many of those things, man." Ryuuji pointed to the empty cans. "You're running on almost no sleep. Those are terrible for you and they're even worse when you're that tire—"
"No sleep?" Rin's voice dropped even lower. Ryuuji found himself straightening at attention and trying not to shiver. "Yukio, how many hours have you had?"
"Enough."
Ryuuji blinked, stared down at the empty cans and the way Yukio's hand was shaking and made a decision that would probably make his friend upset. "He said he had six this week."
"Yukio! That's it. We're taking a nap."
"That's not necessary, Rin."
"Like hell it's not!" Rin snapped his book shut and stood up, practically bristling with irritation. There was a sparkle of fire in his hair (or maybe more, Ryuuji's bleary eyes had everything looking kind of blurry) and he was glaring in a way that brooked no argument. He wasn't out of control. He was dangerously in control of himself. He had the power to back up his command, and he was okay with using it.
"A nap sounds good. Half hour?" Ryuuji closed his own notebook and set his pen neatly next to it.
"That's—"
"An hour." Rin gave Yukio a stern look. "Now."
Yukio huffed out a thoroughly irritated breath and struggled to his feet. The effort required to stand refuted any argument he might have made. Rin caught him by his arm and guided him towards his bed, following after Yukio and flopping on top of him.
It wasn't a bad idea. Both him and Rin slept like the dead (especially when he was this tired) but he doubted Yukio did. If anything, the teen gave off the impression of being the lightest sort of sleeper. Ryuuji didn't doubt he'd wait just long enough for them to fall asleep before he was escaping.
Rin might be strong enough to heft a building over his shoulders, but he wasn't particularly heavy. Yukio could shove him off without any trouble, and Buddha bless him, Rin would not wake up.
Ryuuji got to his own legs and trudged towards the bed. He sat down heavily next to Yukio, told his head to stop spinning from the abrupt movement, laid back next to Yukio, rolled onto his side, and threw half of himself onto Yukio. He was a lot bigger than Rin. Rin's tail instantly latched onto his leg, just like he'd known it would, and it took no effort to hook his arm around Rin, holding him close and on top of Yukio. He heard Yukio huff out a breath of shock and grumble some string of words he couldn't make out, but he didn't try to throw them off.
He even laughed when Kuro yowled from across the room and lunged for them, landing on Rin's back and purring as he kneaded into the boy's hoodie.
Rin was already asleep, and that was somehow the funniest part of this entire thing. Ryuuji knew he had slept the whole night through because he'd been listening to his snores and trying not to be wildly jealous.
"Sorry if we're heavy," he grunted before he lost all consciousness.
"It's... it's nice."
Ryuuji kicked his mind a little to stay awake. "The cud—"
"The weight."
"They make blankets," he slurred, trying and failing to fight the lull of sleep. The purrs and snores and sound of Yukio's heartbeat under his ear was pulling him under. "That... heavy..."
He fell asleep, unaware that Yukio followed right after him, smiling at the reassuring weight and the warmth of his friends.
