Jubilee, Rank #72 (a post-event reflection)
Tumblr media
“Why would you post this on Nocturne’s 7th anniversary of its addition to Starlight Stage?” Because one, I like the song—especially the original duet. And two, screw it, we roll.
It has been a few weeks since the event ended, but I’ve been trying to write this reflection for weeks without trying to lose my mind over actually writing out several thoughts (both good and bad) over a collaboration event in a mobile rhythm/gacha game. Forgive me for the raw honest thoughts I’m about to say in there.
The Prologue
Tumblr media
Hoshimachi Suisei is a virtual YouTuber (VTuber) affiliated with Hololive Production, one of the biggest virtual agencies for such talents. She is one of the earliest talents recruited by the agency, alongside other soloist VTubers like Tokino Sora, Roboco, Sakura Miko, and AZKi—together referred to as “Generation 0”. She is also someone striving to become an idol herself. Prior to becoming affiliated with her current agency, she had tried entering IRL idol agencies, to no avail. She tried joining Hololive Production, but got rejected. She got into INoNaKa Music, but would eventually get transferred into Hololive’s main JP branch in December 2019.
To briefly describe her activities: Suisei is a forever 18, multi-talented idol who has done (and sung) a lot of accomplishments over the years. She has interest in 2D idols as well, with her having interest in Ensemble Stars!! and THE IDOLM@STER, the latter of which being an inspiration that led her into her own idol journey. She would do covers alongside other Hololive talents with songs from those two series. “Honeycomb Summer”, “Melty♡Kitchen”, “Alive Factor”, “Hanamuke no Tori”… to name a few. There were also times where she would often be pulling in the respective games’ gacha, often spending a lot of money on them. Her favorite idols from Enstars!! and IM@S include Ritsu Sakuma, Natsume Sakaki, Hayate Hisakawa, and Kaede Takagaki.
Six years after her debut, she would perform with her own tantou.
Tumblr media
At Suisei’s 6th Anniversary 3D live, appropriately titled “SheenderellaDay”, a certain someone would perform with one of her fans.
The song? It was “Koi Kaze”.
Suisei shared the same stage with no one other than Kaede Takagaki, who was in her 1st SSR outfit. This was followed up by a small MC corner. Kaede switched into her 4th SSR outfit, and then a new song written by Suisei’s recurring composer, lyricist, and fellow Midnight Grand Orchestra member TAKU INOUE started playing on stage. As the concert was happening, I was merely saying “congrats” in my mind.
And thus, the grand “Jubilee” started.
The Event (and My Mixed Feelings)
Tumblr media
It’s easy for me to say that among the people who wanted a Hololive collab with THE IDOLM@STER in-game, Suisei probably won the hardest. She got her own in-game event, original song, a commu, and even an SSR in the series she loves—ignoring the behind-the-scenes shenanigans we will probably never fully know about. There were previous Hololive collab events in other gacha games, with Tokyo 7th Sisters and Granblue Fantasy getting their collabs in the past few years, but when it came to Starlight Stage’s collaborations, this was the game’s most intense collab yet.
I… didn’t initially plan on running this event much. While I was initially excited by the intensity of the collab event upon its official announcement, there were lingering feelings of “what if this were to be my tantou idol’s last event” and a slight hint of disappointment. The “end” of Starlight Stage had become a recurring topic among English-speaking Ps ever since the so-called “content reduction” announcement was released before the end of 2023. The collaboration itself was teased in that same announcement, but I presumed that the things around the collab were already in production as the whole “content reduction” stuff was being decided. The thought of losing IM@S’ most profitable mobile game because of whatever Bandai Namco is up to is kinda scary. It’s a silly sentiment towards a live service mobile game that will shut down eventually, but the thought is also real.
Then, there’s Kaede herself. Her last token event (and unit from the original mobile game) in Deresute, “Pretty Liar”, was held back in 2018. There’s… things I could say about her content released after that, both things I liked, things I felt odd towards, and things I didn’t really like all that much. In a nutshell: I want to see Kaede as “herself” and not just as the “final boss” Cinderella Girl that she is. It’s complicated.
And yet, this event’s timing couldn’t have been even more perfect. Lately I’ve been finding March and April to have moments involving my tantous. The event’s duration overlapped with March 30 (one year since Cinderella FES Mizuki’s release and eventually sparking FES Kaede in that same banner) and April 2 (10th Anniversary Tour Final, aka the live that changed the trajectory of my producing life forever). And the whole thing took place during Holy Week break, no less. The only real issues I would’ve had were potential connection issues that may arise in a then-upcoming 3-day road trip.
Why did this event have to be 11 days long?
The Actual Grind
Day 1 of the event started with me messing around with all my early intense grinding. I managed to get around the top 20 within the first 30 minutes of the event. Trying to maintain a top 100 spot was hard during the first few days, but eventually things stabilized as the days went on.
For a short break during the first day, I pulled on the collab gacha. My Suisei gacha tickets didn’t give me too much and got me an off-rate SSR (Miyo1), so I resorted to using jewels. Here came Kaede’s collab limited SSR, fully animated. My jewel count went from 55k at the start of the event to 36k—which would eventually be thrown into event ranking hell instead of being saved for the Kaede7 reruns (which was its own story).
Tumblr media
During day 2, I kept playing (actually sending my auto Grand team through EVERLASTING FORTE hell and back) while I was at a local convention for the whole afternoon. Not pictured: me showing fellow artists there that I was playing the event! I may have fallen out from my goal for a while, dammit, but I kept farming for tokens anyway.
In addition, I drank some coffee especially during the last few days, although sometimes I find myself feeling a bit sleepy…
Throughout days 6-8, I was stuck on the annual provincial road trip during Holy Week. I brought two phones through the whole thing: my main phone whose mobile data has been mostly spent on event grinding, and a side phone where I would often chat on Discord or play videos and music during the trip. During the second night, I did get to stay in the hotel room by myself (we had two hotel rooms) and took that opportunity to try staying awake.
On day 9, I hit the 99,999,999 money cap for the first time. Nothing too significant about it other than me having to spend a lot on stuff from the limited money shop. (That’s why gold bars exist in-game!)
The final two nights had me trying my damn best to stay up for as much as possible past 1 or 2 AM. If you really value your sleep and sanity over a dumb number for a popular idol’s event, I do not recommend this.
The last day of the event was quite a stressful trip. Within the final 24 hours, I wanted to try reaching the maximum amount of tokens you could hold (99,999 tokens) but I feared that there would not be enough time for me to reach the target. I ended up stopping the EVERLASTING FORTE grind as soon as I got to 90k.
I wanted to park at certain numbers related to my tantous (Ray Distance’s Mobamas debut date, the day CG 4th LIVE’s performance of Nocturne happened, etc.) but I wouldn’t have enough time and/nor tokens to actually reach those numbers. Near the end I tried getting 1,591,715 (Mizuki and Kaede’s respective heights) but in the end, I only managed to reach the 1.59 million point mark with the last tokens I grinded and spent.
The hardest part of the event was actually trying to keep that high amount of uptime, and it was more apparent when I would get knocked out as I was trying to stay awake. I have a terrible sleep schedule (or lack thereof) but my sleepy butt wouldn’t keep me awake for too long. The loop of pressing buttons every 2 minutes felt monotonous for 11 days straight, minus the part where I actually played the event song for either jewels or to get a high score.
My complicated feelings towards Kaede’s latest event song being a collab with a popular VTuber was stuck in my mind, and I first thought I would try to settle for Top 500 early on; but previous sentiments and “final event” anxiety, combined with some encouragement from friends and other Producers (who ranked with me) kept telling me to keep going.
Tumblr media
I ultimately finished the event at rank #72, which is… certainly a number associated with ChihayaPs. With a total of 1,590,435 points. I saw the numbers on Haruka’s birthday (April 3), send help.
I also made it to SSS rankings for the first time. It’s something I never really cared for, usually, but apparently ranking very high in a token event would let you in the top 1000. I never saw my actual SSS rank at the end of March (since I was too busy grinding), but I probably made it in the top 500 in the 91st SSS ranking that month.
The Tantou Unit Revenge
There’s one last thing I want to talk about, something I’ve been preparing for almost a year by that point. Long story short: I wanted to tier for the units I produce, and for the idols that are closest to me. I wanted to do that with S.E.M (my first tantou unit), but over the last few years my chances kept fading with each SideM game that got killed. By the time Growing Stars leaked announced its shutdown, I ended up starting to ask for a Kaede and Mizuki event (as Ray Distance) for me to tier in for me to have some form of “revenge” and (hopefully) closure on that front.
Of course that dream event didn’t happen (yet), knowing how much Bandai Namco and Cygames likes putting that After20 duo (who also have some of the busiest VAs in the series) together sometimes.
Tumblr media
Over 2023, I did get some top 2000s here and there, in both token and groove events. The last event with my actual tantous in it happened over a year ago (Heartboiled Wars with Tomoe). Every event I’ve tiered in has had an idol I like: Aki, Sanae, Airi, Kanade, and Koharu.
And yet, I didn’t tier in this event because I like Suisei… I tiered in this event because I like Kaede. So much that I ended up producing her.
As weird as I feel about the collaboration as a whole, giving up on this chance would’ve left me with intense regret for several reasons. Future me would be really disappointed if this is to be Kaede’s final Starlight Stage event. (So I hope she gets one more event after this…)
The possibility of me failing a chance of tiering one of my closest tantou’s events again scared me. I lost my chances more than once, and it would probably hurt if I give up that chance. It wasn’t the ideal event I wanted to try in, but the timing was too perfect not to ignore either. There were many thoughts swirling in my head throughout the whole thing, but then again… it’s a tantou event in the end.
I’m awaiting Mizuki’s next event (especially since she hasn’t gotten a new song for nearly 3 years now), but I need to recover first.
Despite everything…
In the end, I do not regret being Kaede’s producer.
Tumblr media
The Stats
PLv: 347 → 501. The 2x fan campaign combined with a bit of the EXP Produce perk boosts may have helped a lot.
Jewel count: 55k (pre-gacha) → 36k (post-gacha) → 7k. Thank goodness I didn’t have to spark Kaede in that limited banner.
Idols made past 15 million fans: Uzuki, Takumi, Nanami, and Tomoe. Three of my tantous & an excessive use of Nanami’s FES SSR.
Idols made past 10 million fans: Seira, Yui, and Koharu. Sanae, Miku, Nana, Ranko, and Karen also got a significant boost in fans due to all of this.
SSS songs cleared: Gaze and Gaze. Been wanting to save getting that clear for a special event.
Stamina drinks spent: everything.
Tumblr media
Total no of EVERLASTING FORTE plays at the end: 2,947.
SSRs obtained from collab gacha: 5 (two Kaedes, one Rin4, a Makino1 dupe, and a Miyo1.) I’d eventually gain another 2 SSRs after the event (neither of them were Suisei though. I had to resist pulling further because a Kaede7 rerun was coming…)
The Special Thanks
The KaigaiPs that ranked with me in the top 100 (Zhu and Shiina especially—those two are on a different league of their own) for helping me survive this tiresome first Deresute T100 attempt.
My fellow online friends from the various Discord servers and on Twitter, for supporting me. I’ve been keeping that whole thing under wraps from my main account out of embarrassment, but yeah.
The Hololive Fan Wiki, Virtual YouTuber Wiki, and the JP Hololive Unofficial Wiki for Suisei research.
Tumblr media
As a final note… when’s Passion Jewelries? Or the next Kaede/Mizuki event?

Genshin Impact headcanons no one asked for: cannabis edition
In first place, lemme just do the classic This Is The Adult's Table. Minors kindly scram and if you don't, then at least be quiet. This is not for you.
That said, this is written as a x reader because it sparked joy.
Top 10 Genshin Characters That Would Share Weed With You And How That Would Happen
(putting a cut here so ppl that see this in a search are forced to click through)
10. Lisa
She picked up some nice bongs when she was away studying in Sumeru and will show you the collection if you seem like you're really interested.
Has the best indica hybrid that will just wrap you in a soft blanket and put you to sleep.
9. Sucrose
It's always the quiet ones. You'd never think to ask her, but one day she just calls the very strain you smoked from the way your hair smells and comments that edibles are much better, no strange smells, but if you really like smoking then she could find a less smelly strain for you.
She proceeded to show you her plants. There are many. Each is a different experiment, of course.
You never know what will happen if you accept a cookie she baked.
8. Arataki Itto
You were winding down after a specially fierce domain, setting up camp and talking, when you complained about muscle strain.
He gave a hearty laugh and said he had just the thing, proceeding to roll the biggest, fattest blunt you've ever seen or smoked in your life. You do not hold yourself or Itto responsible for the shenanigans that ensued.
7. Xinyan
You took her out to take out the post-concert energy into some monsters, but she had a better idea. Smoking some grass while watching the stars and listening to the waves crashing was a much better way to decompress.
Relaxing is rock'n'roll.
6. Beidou
The moment she caught you being sea-sick, she took you aside and pressed a thin one into your hands.
5. Yae Miko
She somehow found out you have interest in what she called ritual herbs, then threw some into a lit censer, which got you so baked you couldn't even complain about waking up 12h later on top of the Sacred Sakura with vivid memories of things that had to be hallucinations.
Later, you found out that whatever she gave you does not have any ritual significance. Damn fox?
4. Kaedehara Kazuha
You walked in on him laying on a sturdy branch and smoking a blunt. Fine, you climbed the damn tree after you tracked him by smell across a veritable long stretch of forest.
But he smiled at you and patted his side, passing the torch the moment you sat down.
Those were some philosophical conversations that day.
3. Ningguang
Of course the Tianquan of Liyue knows how to wind down after a long day. By the way her aides brought the tray with the special pipe and implements the moment she mentioned needing to relax, you were sure she wasn't just humoring you based on reports.
You do wonder, however, if she picked a specially tongue-loosening strain, because you got so chatty and she was so very interested.
2. Kaeya
He never even attempted to hide his habit from you. This is a man that carries a cigarrete holder with a couple of mixed cigarettes on him at all times.
Once you were friendly enough, he started offering you whenever he fired one up. You don't always accept, because whatever strain it is he smokes, it makes you a bit paranoid and way too focused.
You have no idea how he manages through a day like that.
1. Venti
He never has any, but always manages to procure from some unsuspecting adventurer. Sometimes that adventurer is you. You are fine with that.

alright these girls have haunted me for about a whole month now time to break it all down for anyone vaguely interested in them
hololive/vtuber 101 below the read more
THE FUCK IS HOLOLIVE?: An idol agency except all of its roughly 20 or so girls are youtube streamers who have their identity protected by a live2d avatar. They recently had a very fun live concert and all of them have or will have 3d models, but the majority of content is just them streaming whatever's their fancy at the time. (As of 2/17/2020 a lot of them play a lot of ARK, thank Coco for that) Therefore, they're part of the new form of niche culture called Vtuber.
THE FUCK IS A VTUBER?: Virtual youtubers. Like a normal streamer but, again, live2d portrait instead of their actual face. That's basically it. Content is about as varied as any other youtuber.
ALRIGHT, WHO WE GOT?: Hololive's split into OG Tokino Sora, the girls alongside her who are also primarily 3d, and then 'generations'. Just plug in their names and you'll find their channel easy. Again, variety differs between all the girls, but expect a lot of Nintendo games, chat streams, karaoke, and Minecraft across the board.
-Tokino Sora OG mom slash idol, debuted all the way back in 2017. Probably the only proper idol in all of Hololive. Warm, friendly, relaxing. She mostly does 3d variety streams and song debuts so she's hard to follow without advanced japanese.
-Roboco(-san) Pose happy killer robo with a notably smokey voice and calming demeanor. Plays a large amount of minecraft and first-person games in general; recent streams include ARK, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remaster, Apex, and Fortnite.
-Sakura Miko ELIIIITE MLG miko idol with a tendency to swear a bit. High energy, fully embraced 'press f', gives herself sunglasses during streams, great friends with Pekora. Also notably into eroge. Did a full playthrough of Papers Please lately and is one of the most addicted to ARK (21 streams at around 4-5 hours each.)
1st Generation -Yozora Mel Sleepy vampire with the occasional killer instinct. Soothing, gentle, kind of lewd. Very much into nintendo games with Smash, Ring Fit, SwoSh, and Mario Kart being her latest content, but she's a little slower with the output. Part of the lewd blonde club with Aki, Haato, and Choco, who were demonetized until recently.
-Aki Rosenthal Cyber elf with detachable twin tails. Pretty similar to Mel in disposition, though less sleepy and more...I want to say 'fantastical'. Recently gained popularity due to her buck naked superhuman beefcake character in ARK, with Kerbal, Go Home, and some ASMR rounding out the rest of her content.
-Natsuiro Matsuri Eternal 17 year old cheerleader from the class next door, Matsuri is a high energy raging lesbian who's also a complete sweetie. Her infamous bandaid clip is what got a lot of western fans into Hololive. Plays a wide variety of games but also twitcasts at random times of the day like when she's in bed or in the bath, just to chat with her viewers about what's on her mind. Well loved.
-Akai Haato The ESL transfer student, girl next door, Haato is, well, exactly that. Commonly traveling for studies, Haato is a bubbly girl with a fine sense for aesthetics; you'll catch her making elaborate builds in Minecraft or playing visual novels during streams, along with a smattering of other games. Notable in that she's the only girl that'll do purely English streams, likely to help with her own education. Also kind of a baka.
2nd Generation -Minato Aqua Disaster masochist maid who's actually stupidly good at video games sometimes. She's both mischievous and hard working, massively popular in China, and, again, stupidly good at games. Soulsborne speedruns, PUBG, ARK (also one of the most addicted), Minecraft (seeing a pattern?), League if you catch her bilibili streams...but she's also the one who will spend a stream calling the other girls and asking them to bully her. Wild card gremlin.
-Murasaki Shion Genius mage who doesn't do a lot with her magic. Pretty well known for her 'neeeeeee', with a distinctly smug avatar/voice. Pretty good at games too, with a variety of Pokemon, retro games, Minecraft, Smash, horror, Mario Kart, etc. Excellent singing voice too, would recommend her covers.
-Yuzuki Choco The totally-not-a-succubus demon nurse at your highschool, Choco embodies :sweating:. Obviously she's lewd, but there's also a silly and petulant side to her that's fun to watch too. ASMR is her specialty. She's also, surprisingly, really into Dead By Daylight, so if that combination sounds fun to you hit her up.
-Oozora Subaru If Haato is the girl next door, Subaru's the bro next door. A very down to earth but energetic and sporty tomgirl, she recently spent three streams and sixteen hours on trying to take down Sans. Other recent things include Live A Live, The Witch's House, and GTA. Refreshingly easy to relate to compared to the other girls sometimes.
-Nakiri Ayame Hello, honored humans~ Hololive's millenium old oni. Has a peculiar way of speaking, especially in her pronouns, which lends a certain charm if you can got on board with it; happy go lucky, easy to like, and really cute on top of all that. Recently recovered from sickness (as of 2/26) so was the last to get on the Ark craze, she's actually very fond of multiplayer games as a way of 'getting to know mortals'. Apex Legends, Mario Kart, Splatoon, etc.
GAMERS: A sort of generation on its own, and also a kind of weird designation when all the girls game so frequently. Oh well!
-Shirakami Fubuki Fox. Not a cat. Super cheerful, makes a lot of weird noises that people turn into youtube poops (that she encourages), and also a helluva gamer. Plays plenty of battle royales, ARK, and of course Nintendo/Minecraft stuff. Infamous for her absolute feral hunter instincts in Project Winter, where she commonly massacres the entire map on her lonesome when she's the traitor.
-Ookami Mio Mom wolf who has to play tsukkomi (straightman) to basically all of Hololive sometimes. Which makes it all the more hilarious during her semi-common charisma breaks, like during Haato's recent English Exam stream. Has been into EDF, Pokemon, Ghost Trick, and Splatoon lately.
-Nekomata Okayu The sleepy smug cat with the most chill personality. Notably very, VERY close with Korone, and in general kind of a playboy in general. Never denies it or any of her myriad transgressions though. Her Mother 2 run has been fun recently, but really you could just tune into her frequent chat streams and relax that way.
-Inugami Korone Dog. An oddball who kind of just goes at her own pace, playing all sorts of weird games like Nyanpo (the pokemon prototype) and weird PS1 retro games. Shows a disturbingly violent side sometimes; her ongoing Blasphemous run and recent RE4 runs have shown how much she's into that kind of stuff. But also she's still a dog, so really don't worry.
Inonaka Music: -AZKi AZKi is closely associated with Hololive but is really more of her own thing, being even more idol than Sora is. Doesn't stream much if at all, has her own album out, does music collabs more than anything else, etc. Helluva singer though.
-Hoshimachi Suisei The vtuber idol who's totally not a psychopath, and totally a goddess at tetris. Like Fubuki, made a name for herself with her psychotic rampages in Project Winter, and also very much unfazed by horror games. Really fucking good at tetris too, doing 98v1 streams lately in Tetris 99, and a godly songstress too. Her karaoke streams are to die for.
3rd Generation: Also known as Hololive Fantasy. These girls are particularly close to each other. If you can find translated clips, I definitely recommend their host club streams where they compete in seducing other Vtubers. (Yes. That's serious)
-Usada Pekora AH^HA^HA^. You'd think she was a cute rabbit, but no! It's a Tewi level shitposter combined with some legit video game skills. She likes playing the heel deliberately just for shits and giggles, like when she nearly walked off with Miko's Nether Star. She's in fact very close to Miko, their relationship being both great friends and great rivals. Definitely one of the most addicted to ARK too; she's been making headway in conquering the ocean.
-Shiranui Flare Handsome half-elf archer, Flare's the designated tsukkomi of the third generation. She's definitely the most down to earth of them, charismatic to boot, and does as she pleases with a relaxed personality and husky, smokey voice. Very very VERY close to Noel. You'll find some really fun playthroughs of various action games like Dark Souls, Bayonetta, and Sekiro on her channel, and thanks to her picking up game mechanics fast they're fun to watch for anyone.
-Shirogane Noel Knight Captain of the Shirogane Knights, Noel's...kind of an airhead, actually. But she's definitely a pleasant, softspoken sort of person who's incredibly relaxing to listen to. Also a big eater, you'll hear her talk about beef bowls and muscles a lot. Just try not to stare too much at her 'pectorals.' As mentioned, VERY close to Flare (they just had a two day long date to a ryokan). Plays whatever with no focus in particular.
-Uruha Rushia The cute, soft, innocent apprentice necromancer, Rushia occasionally comes out of the gates roaring with rage filled screams before chilling out. An absolute cutie though, who loves her fans very much (though really every Hololive member does), her attempts to be cool and reliable lend to some great comedy. She's got a great singing voice if you can find one of her bilibili streams, and otherwise plays a wide variety of things.
-Houshou Marine A~hoy~. The completely safe for work, modern, not-cosplay eternal 17 pirate...and everything I just said was a lie. Most of it anyways. Marine's a riot of a lady with an incredibly dirty mind and dirtier motor mouth, great voice acting ability, and knack for art that she'll happily show off (among other things). Definitely one of my favorites, you'll find plenty of chat and art content on her channel, along with some of the most Ark addiction and a full array of Touhou game playthroughs.
4th Generation: Hololive's newest five girls, it's been a month and change since they debuted. They're notable for working together on some of the most wild content Hololive's put out so far, all helmed by a certain dragon. But we'll get to that.
-Tokoyami Towa The little devil that does whatever she wants, Towa's known for a couple of other things at this point: refreshingly honest personality, Pokemon playthroughs with an eclectic choice in team comp, and her charmingly atypical tomboy voice (though her mic's not amazing). Great singer, super funny if you can find the rare translated clip of her, and was an absolute menace at the recent Hololive werewolf/mafia game. How she managed to fake being a Seer from day one and nearly win, I'll never know.
-Tsunomaki Watame Hololive's bouncy sheep. Ram? Something like that. A very girly, friendly, lightly ara-ara personality, she's an honest and open with her feelings sort of girl. Earnest laughter at chat and games, real emotional tears while watching the live concert with her generation mates, Watame's a total sweetheart who streams a bit of music everyday as the pre-show to Coco's Morning Shitposts (official name). She's also gotten very close to her senpais in some regards...but above all she likes singing, chilling out in Minecraft, and recently playing through a couple Kirby games.
-Himemori Luna If you want to see a completely innocent cinnamon roll looking character say things like 'ass' and 'don't f*cking take crystal m*th', Luna's your gal. Her high pitched, almost childlike voice takes a bit of getting used to but she's a sweetheart that just has fun no matter what she's doing. But she'll also say a bunch of really funny shit while doing it just from sheer juxtaposition of her voice/appearance and the vocabulary. Surprisingly good at video games too.
-Amane Kanata PP Tenshi. Perfect Pitch, Powerpoint...Kanata's a bit of a sheltered honor student sort of girl who has an incredible vocal range, so much you'd be forgiven for thinking she was a professional voice actor or singer. She loves playing along with jokes even if she doesn't get them some times, and is really close with Coco. If not for said dragon she'd be the biggest memelord in the 4th generation, but alas; her channel has lots of collabs with fellow members and a series of cute 'research' videos on the various generations of Hololive. Unfortunately untranslated though.
-Kiryuu Coco The one, the only, the President of Nishinari herself, Coco has been a force of nature since she debuted. Her vulgar sense of humor, rapid fire jokester nature, fluent English speaking, and complete conversion of Hololive to the wonders of dinosaur taming in Ark has made her one of the most subscribed girls in a matter of weeks. Every day at 6am JST or 1pm PST, she does a quick 20 minute gig called Coco News (officially translated as Coco's Morning Shitpost) where she reports on the various ongoings in Hololive. This ingeniously brings attention to the silly crap everyone's been up to, really fostering a sense of community between the girls you don't see elsewhere, while also being a riot to watch as she roasts everyone for their silliness (with full permission). Other notable memes include her stalwart boycotting of Nintendo Switches, her desire to fund a Hololive house, and her recent Hitman 2 run.

Sakura Trick, a review
(Disclaimer: The following is a non-profit unprofessional blog post written by an unprofessional blog poster. All purported facts and statement are little more than the subjective, biased opinion of said blog poster. In other words, don’t take anything I say too seriously.) Just the facts 'Cause you're in a Hurry! Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP): 29.99 USD. How much I paid: Nothing. I watched it on Crunchyroll for free with ads. Animation Studio: Studio DEEN Licensed and Localized by: Sentai Filmworks Audio: Japanese Audio with Subtitles only Number of Episodes: 12 Episodes Length per Episode: 25 Minutes on average. 21 Without Intro and Ending song. Number of Discs: 2 DVD Discs. 2 Blu-ray Discs. (DVD package is sold separately from Blu-ray package). Episodes per Disc: 6 Episodes per DVD Disc. Episodes 1-9 on the first Blu-ray disc with Episodes 10-12 on the second Blu-ray disc along with the special features Also on: Free on Crunchyroll with advertisements. Also available on Youtube and HiDive, the streaming service for Sentai Filmworks. A paid subscription is available but a Free Trial is available for viewing.   Bonus Features: Textless Opening and Textless Ending. My Personal Biases: I like other shows in the Shoujo Ai genre such as Mai Hime, Mai Otome, Maria Watches over Us, Strawberry Panic and yes, even Kannazuki no Miko/Destiny of the Shrine Maiden.   My Verdict: Sakura Trick doesn’t really revolutionize the genre in any significant way as it offers a slice-of-life comedy that just happens to feature lesbians. And maybe… that’s okay for now? Given all the tumultuous history the famous yuri couples had to go through just to be together, maybe just watching Haruka and Yuu hang out is just fine by itself. Check it out on Crunchyroll before buying.   Sakura Trick, a review

youtube
Haruka Takayama and Yuu Sonoda were inseparable during middle school, but upon entering high school, they end up being seated on opposite sides of the classroom. Having to spend time with more friends, the two decide to make their relationship special by kissing each other in secret. Joined in their year are Kotone and Shizuku, cousins who may share an intimate relationship of their own, Kaede, the class representative who reports to the student council and Yuzu, Kaede’s childhood friend and scooter enthusiast. The series follow the six friends as they go about their daily lives. However, Mitsuki, Yuu’s older sister and Student Council President, is suspicious that Yuu and Haruka’s relationship is more than a little friendly and attempts to spy on them, saying that two girls shouldn’t kiss at school. Mitsuki’s less like a Sachiko and more like a shy introvert who wonders why she keeps thinking of Haruka in a sexual manner. Haruka also suffers from occasional delusions concerning her and Yuu together.
youtube
Based on a 4-Koma series, each episode splits content between two storylines (which the show labels Side A and Side B). Look, some shows based on a 4-Koma are K-On, and sometimes they’re this show. It’s not spectacular in any sense of the word, but it’s not a complete waste of time. It’s all there: the first kiss, study groups, the pool episode, Christmas episode, New Year’s Episode, and other significant holidays. The set-up for the jokes is simple: there’s a typical high school situation, a misunderstanding occurs and the other character reacts in HILARIOUS fashion by shouting and having a chibi look. Those looking for girls kissing will be surely satisfied. Lots and lots of girls kissing. And what 2010s Yuri anime would it be without everyone’s favorite problematic trope, non-consensual touching and groping?
youtube
Don’t go in expecting K-on or Kyoto Animation levels of quality. Animation wise, it’s fairly standard. Studio DEEN did the animation and while there’s some detailed and colorful shots (like a concert scene or some kissing scenes at sunset), it’s mostly pastel colors and saves the colorful bits for the punchline or reactions. Haruka and Yuu’s relationship is fairly standard. They’re friends trying to figure out what to do as a couple and have misunderstandings, reactions and lots of shouting and kissing afterwards. What’s weird is that towards the end of the series, Yuu and Haruka aren’t sure if they’re ‘in love’ each other, despite having made out enough times to have swapped saliva with one another. In the end, Haruka and Yuu feel that maybe spending time with one another while kissing, is a form of ‘love’ even if they’re not sure if it’s considered a romance. What’s interesting is that the side couple, Kotone and Shizuku have a unique dynamic. It turns out that Kotone and Shizuku are related (I think they’re cousins?) and Kotone is actually crashing at Shizuku’s fancy mansion because she’s rebelling against her parents. Kotone actually has a fiancée and Shizuku is worried that she’s just a means of escape and is being used.
youtube
Kotone tells her that she loves Shizuku for being Shizuku. To me, I’d actually like to see more of that relationship. (Which I’m told goes into further detail concerning the impending marriage of Kotone’s fiancé in the manga). Subtext wise, there’s the hint of things ending too soon. The school is eventually shutting down in 3 years, meaning no new students will be accepted in after the first group of students graduate. There’s a sense of ‘these moments are our last, we should make them count’. CAVEAT: Sakura Trick is not anything extraordinary or dramatic. Then again, does it have to be? It was 2014. Given the respective hells Chikane, Himeko, Shizuru, Natsuki, Nagisa, Shizuma, Tamao, Neviril, Aeru, Hazumu, Tomari, Yasuna, Sumika, Ushio, Fumi, Akira, Antony and Utena had to go through, maybe it’s okay for a yuri couple just to be a yuri couple. The fact that there isn’t a love triangle (not a real one anyway) or a sci-fi concept or the threat of separation or shlocky soap opera antics (like in Citrus) is probably more refreshing to a couple like Yuu and Haruka. It’s short and sweet. And for 30 dollars for 12 episodes, it’s not too bad of a deal (especially in a market that’s asking for 38 dollars for 11 episodes for Sweet Blue Flowers or most egregious, 50 USD for 10 episodes of My First Girlfriend is a Gal). Verdict: If you’re still not sure, try checking out the series for free (with ads) on Crunchyroll.

How well known were each of the FoD/DioS characters among the public before their kidnapping?
FoD: (haha, I’m not spoiling what people think about some of these peeps just suddenly being erased from history)
Akita Yamazaki–Somewhat. In the public, however, she was more well known for her blog. Her name, other than that, was most commonly heard of in Japanese gangs and businesses circles. Also, along with Takayuki, was popular for those loyal to the Committee due to them being one of the more popular teams out of all the work they did.
Takayuki Anno–For those who kept up with crime, Takayuki’s name is everywhere, especially right before the Killing Game. People outside that circle would only know his name offhandedly and be like ‘oh yeah, I think I heard of that guy that one time.’
Naoko Kawabata–Once again another member more well known in certain circles. Mostly known for her thesis papers around such topics as abuse, which is how Takayuki heard of her before the story began. She was more popular when she was younger though, around the age of twelve, leading to her Ultimate title.
Kyoto Kamui–I think most of these people are going to be more well known in their certain circles. Kyoto is actually quite popular with people that pay close attention to contests, gaining a cult following of sorts. He actually has no idea this group of people exists.
Hotaru Amemori–Hotaru is not that well known since nobody gives a shit about dart throwing other than the Committee. She’s actually more popular for being an Amemori and being related to her family than anything else.
Shinichi Fujimoto–Along people who are deeply invested with books, Shinichi’s name is very well known. He actually might be one of the most popular with older adults since he finished translating Gilgamesh and other older works. However, Shinichi is not popular with teenagers.
Mitsuru Banda–Mitsuru’s name is all over the place in the news, especially because her gang has close ties to the Committee. She is known to be quite dangerous and one of the most powerful people not high up in the Committee in Japan.
Takara Miyagi–One of the least well-known students. He might find secrets everywhere but he doesn’t really like to be in the spotlight. Whenever he does something of note, Takara uses an alias. The spotlight is just something Takara doesn’t want, and he only joined Hope’s Peak to help his family.
“Mirabilis Folium”–Actually very well known. People know her as multiple different names, but the most popular is Rosalina Folium. Of course, even with her mild popularity, nobody knows she’s an Irving.
Hayato Akimoto–Also has his name pop up a lot in the business world. Hayato is known to be quite the salesman and many people want him to join their companies. And he’s popular in the underground because of his ties with Cassius’s smuggling ring.
Kira Iwata–Slightly popular for those with an interest in jewelry. This is mostly because Kazuhiko did an article about her. Like Takara, she’s one of less well-known students, and she wants it to stay that way. Kira is not the type of person to seek out fame.
Cassius Jacobson–Very popular back in England (considering England is much, much smaller in this future because bombs…he’s still well known I guess). His family is trusted with making the crowns for future royalty, even though they’re figureheads now. Being the sole heir of the Jacobson name, a lot of faith is put in him. Too bad he runs a smuggling ring. Oops.
Ayano “Nishiki”–Believe it or not, Ayano is well known with the populace. Helps that her boyfriend is Kazuhiko Hiraoka. She is a famous hacker and known badass. The Committee likes bragging about how they got her. Ayano also is in the most powerful couple the Committee has in Japan.
Kazuhiko Hiraoka–He’s a journalist. Kazuhiko is known by many people for putting out good articles. The dude’s popular.
Tsukiko Oda–Although her band is more popular than Tsukiko, fans know her name. She runs the most popular fringe band in the world so a lot of people will at least recognize her name.
Akemi Nakatani–In the chess playing community, Akemi is an all-star player. He is out known that well aside from that. Nothing really much to add on here other than Akemi would actually want to be popular.
Miyuki Kobyashi–She’s a famous urban legend, but not a lot of people believe she’s a real person. Although the people that she helps certainly do have faith in the onna-bugeisha and insist that she’s real. Miyuki would much rather stay in the shadows though.
“Satoshi Nakajima”–Nope. Only in the deep underground will you hear the name Satoshi Nakajima. Considering the Committee is everywhere, they find Satoshi this way.
Namita Nakahashi–Another well-known student with the general populace. She holds parties with celebrities so her name is bound to get out there. Her parties get a lot of coverage in the news and many people want to go to them for real one day, even though only the elite of the elite truly can.
Yasu Matsuhita–Another Ultimate that is not well-known. They’re only known by people that go to their father’s shop. A person that works for the Committee just accidentally found out about Yasu’s talent one day. That’s right, Yasu was only found because of luck.
Minato Ueda–They’re literally only known by their friends and the Committee. But, because Akita had to keep saving their ass, they got very well known in the Committee. The Committee was, like, hey, this person is good at ‘traveling,’ let’s make them the Ultimate Traveler!
DiOS:
Shiro Amari–To those who keep attention to the music world, Shiro’s name pops up a lot. He is quite popular with those who care about classical music. Helps that Kazuhiko loves writing about his concerts, boosting his popularity.
Mei Yamazaki–Mei is an idol of sorts in the gaming world. She’s very, very loved in her niche. Some people even worship the very earth that she stands on. Outside of that, however, she’s really only known because of her ties to Akita.
Ayamu Tachibana–He literally works graveyard shifts really well. Ayamu’s ain’t gonna be the most popular guy in the world. :P Of course, people that actually known the guy adore him, especially employers. Because em graveyard shifts.
Asuka Takano–Once again, well known in the community that likes sports. She’s known to be super chill with her fans so that also helps with her popularity. Though, surprisingly, Asuka is another student they got because they happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Jun Fumimoto–Because the general public doesn’t exactly care about stage managers that much, Jun is another one found within a niche. In the niche of people that really, really care about theatre, Jun is like a godsend. He’s a lot like Mei with the fact that people worship the very ground they stand on.
Etsuko Abe–Oh dear lord. This girl is certainly a…controversial person in the psychology field. And, because of that, a lot of people in that field both love and hate the name Etsuko Abe. It also helps that she also created a new type of therapy and wrote lots and lots of papers. Say what you want about Etsuko, but she’s passionate about her work. Really passionate.
Ryoichi Homura–He’s a demonologist, most people don’t even know those exist. He’s…um…something. I love my horrible demon son (and now people are scared about Ryoichi).
Emilynn McKay–She’s a MCKAY. End of story. Emilynn is known everywhere, especially because she won’t stop almost dying and then making horrible meme jokes.
Saitou Katatake–Well, I’m not gonna spoil the introduction of this character because it’s funny as Hell but I’ll talk about non-spoilers. Saitou is known for his dueling around the world, and he’s actually one of the more popular students in the cast.
Ichiko Miyashita–Another Ultimate that was picked up because of being in the right place at the right time. Ichiko is literally known nowhere because, like Takara, she either uses an alias or is an anon (they have infected the cast). She also doesn’t like the spotlight that much either.
Himura Sachihiro–Another obsure Ultimate. Like Takara and Ichiko, he likes using an alias. He only uses his real name whenever he wants to (yes, Shiro knows he is, and his real name). In the music world, he is only slightly known, but those who know him know him quite well.
Sachiko Isobe–In her village, Sachiko is very, very popular. But, since mikos don’t really get popular now in cities, Sachiko is only popular in her home village.
Kitsu Natsuki–He’s like the Flo from Progressive of this world. XD Okay, not really, but he’s famous because he’s everywhere in commercials. Kitsu is an actor, so, of course, he’s famous.
Natsuki Sumeragi–Slightly less popular than Kitsu because she focuses on a niche. She’s a voice actor, so, for characters she voices, Natsuki is well known. You betcha Emilynn and Mei are secretly fangirling whenever they’re in the same room with her.
Osamu Imai–He’s literally a personal assistant. Osamu isn’t known at all outside of his employers and people thinking about whether or not to hire him. He works with the Committee a lot so that’s how they known about him.
Mizore Kurushima–Only well known inside the Committee. She’s just a mathematician that’s really, really good at her job.
Yuu and Yuki Akimoto–Known as the freaks of the Sakura Circus. They’re known by locals and people who visit the circus for their musical skills.
