(KRON) — A Santa Rosa homicide victim’s severed head was found along a creek two days after she was slain and decapitated, police revealed Monday.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s coroner identified the victim Monday afternoon as 64-year-old Elvia Lopez-Arroyo of Santa Rosa. Police officers found her body inside a home on Pomo Trail on November 2. Her head — and the killer — were missing from the grisly crime scene.
The Santa Rosa Police Department sent out an alert to the public on November 3 stating Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez was at-large and dangerous. The suspected killer is the victim’s 23-year-old grandson, police said.
“The initial investigation conducted by detectives from SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations (VCI) team revealed Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, a 23-year-old resident of Santa Rosa and blood relative of the victim, killed the victim in a targeted attack before leaving the scene with the female victim’s head. Multiple weapons were recovered from the residence,” police wrote.
The grandmother had been stabbed, police said.
Detectives disseminated information about the grandson to surrounding Bay Area law enforcement agencies as the manhunt continued.
A San Francisco Police Department officer spotted Aroyo-Lopez at the Transbay Transit Center on San Francisco’s Mission Street Saturday. The foot patrol officer recognized Aroyo-Lopez from the wanted person bulletin and immediately took him into custody.
Investigators said they found the victim’s head at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the banks of Santa Rosa Creek, adjacent to the Prince Memorial Greenway. The head was brought to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office for further examination.
Santa Rosa police detectives arrested the grandson before booking him into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of murder. Aroyo-Lopez was not granted bail and remained in custody as of Monday afternoon.
Not long before the grandmother was slain, Aroyo-Lopez was released from state prison and placed on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS). He served time in prison for assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession convictions. The victim in his prior assault case was not his grandmother, police said.

Walton County Sheriff's Office in Florida responded to an incident where an intoxicated teen, Joseph Whatley from Mountain Brook, Alabama, was arrested for battery on a deputy at a tennis court in Santa Rosa Beach. Whatley was harassing and attempting to fight others, leading to the altercation escalating to physical violence. The teen reportedly shoved a patron to the ground and was pinned down until deputies arrived. Authorities found a 1.75 liter vodka bottle in his backpack and Whatley resisted arrest, shouting profanity at his mother and deputies before spitting in a deputy's face. He was charged with battery on an officer, battery, obstruction without violence, and possession of alcohol by a person under 21 years old. The incident involving Whatley took place in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, where he was behaving aggressively and engaging in physical altercations. The altercation resulted in Whatley facing charges related to his behavior, including spitting in a deputy's face, which further escalated the situation. Following his arrest, Whatley was charged with various offenses including battery on an officer, battery, obstruction without violence, and possession of alcohol under the legal age limit. He was taken to the Walton County Jail and later transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview for further processing. The incident highlights the dangers of underage drinking and the consequences individuals may face when they engage in violent behavior while under the influence of alcohol. In this case, Whatley's aggressive behavior and resistance against law enforcement led to his arrest and facing multiple charges. The incident occurred at a tennis court in Santa Rosa Beach and involved him instigating fights and causing disruptions while intoxicated. Authorities intervened to control the situation and prevent further escalation, resulting in Whatley being taken into custody and charged for his actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible drinking and the repercussions individuals may face for engaging in violent behavior. Ultimately, the incident involving Joseph Whatley in Walton County, Florida, highlights the risks associated with underage drinking and the potential consequences individuals may face for their actions. Whatley's behavior, which led to his arrest for battery on a deputy and other charges, serves as a cautionary tale of the dangers of intoxication and violent behavior. The incident underscores the importance of law enforcement intervention in maintaining public safety and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions, particularly when alcohol is involved.

SRSO: Ex-Milton man raped girl when she was in kindergarten
A man accused of raping a young girl when she in kindergarten and first grade was arrested this week and booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail.
Tony Simmons, 39, was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail on Wednesday on three counts of sex assault on a victim under the age of 12.
His bond was set at more than $1 million, and county records indicate he remained in custody as of Friday.
The allegations against Simmons were reported to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 21, 2019. Simmons, who most recently lived in Niagara Falls, New York, was accused of committing the crimes when he lived in Milton.
A girl told investigators Simmons inappropriately touched her and raped on three to five occasions when she was in kindergarten and first grade between 2010 and 2012.
The girl said Simmons told her not to tell anyone and that if she did say anything, "they wouldn’t believe her because he was the adult and she was a child,” the report stated.
SRSO deputies discovered this was not the first time Simmons was a suspect in a case involving sexual misconduct and juveniles.
In 2011, a girl told the Orlando Police Department that Simmons had inappropriately touched her, the report stated.
More recently in 2017, Simmons was the suspect in a case involving a girl who said that he had sexually battered her multiple times.
A deputy wrote in Simmons' arrest report for the latest allegations that "I found out that (the) case had resolved with Tony pleading to cruelty toward a child and was sentenced to five years sex offender probation on Dec. 4, 2019."
SRSO investigators discovered that Simmons had moved to New York and contacted the Niagara Falls Police Department to assist in their investigation.

Episode 201: Stay (I Missed You) - Details
Episode Summary:
Torn between the heartache of Max’s (Nathan Parsons) sacrifice and the joy of Rosa’s (Amber Midthunder) resurrection, Liz (Jeanine Mason) suppresses her grief to focus on moving out of Roswell with Rosa. Meanwhile, Michael (Michael Vlamis) copes with Max’s death in his own self-destructive way, while Isobel (Lily Cowles) focuses her attention on honing her alien powers. Finally, Liz makes an alarming discovery after Rosa begins experiencing mysterious side effects from her resurrection. Michael Trevino, Heather Hemmens, Tyler Blackburn and Trevor St. John also star. Lance Anderson directed the episode written by Carina Adly MacKenzie.
DETAILS:
They left Noah's body by the cliff near the turquoise mines
Max tells Liz specifically that Noah called him a savior, and that the victors would be coming for him, and specifically the term alighting.
2 weeks later...
A guy is seen trying to scrub graffiti off the wall. The graffiti is an alien saying to a ghost "I don't believe in humans." Rosa's?
Arturo is working on his citizenship paperwork.
"...the occasional face mask selfie..." Once again, like in the pilot with the reference to the border wall, Carina writes a line that she had no idea would be quite so relevant on the day that this aired. Maria is referring to lab face masks, not medical face masks, but given the current state of things it's still quite the on point line, politically.
The card Arturo gives Liz is San Cristobal (Saint Christopher). Info on San Cristobal: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Christopher?wprov=sfla1
What Arturo says to Liz in Spanish: "Para que te cuide en el camino." Translates to: To take care of you on the way.
The church where the funeral is held is the same church Liz prayed at in episode 102... Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe. It actually is a pretty interesting place, which you can tour if you visit Santa Fe. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loretto_Chapel?wprov=sfla1
The photo Isobel looks at is a shot of Max, Isobel, and Noah at what appears to be their wedding.
Isobel is the one hiding Max's death. Liz and Michael are helping, but Isobel wanted him put in the pod. "...we'll make up a story, okay? We'll send text messages from his phone. We'll say that he left town."
Sheriff Valenti tells Isobel that she's "Roswell PD family", but in season 1 they were very consistent about using Chavez County Sheriff's Department, not Roswell PD.
Another reference to the graffiti... Again, Rosa?
Liz had to prompt Isobel to tell at her at the wake, meaning this is them implementing Isobel's "story" on why Max left.
Liz told Rosa "everything except that the whole town thinks she's a murderer."
Rosa's first nightmare... She walks into the Crashdown, plays STP, reveals the handprint, the jukebox sparks and distorts, hears Isobel's voice, and Noah appears.
"They're not going to come after you. They're going to go after the people you care about." - Noah said this to Max in 107 in reference to Wyatt Long's lawyers.
Rosa's necklace that she and Liz argue over is the turquoise bead necklace that Liz wears throughout S1, including in the pilot, So Much For the Afterglow,
Mimi Deluca...
Quoted from Aliens (1986) "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit."
On Rosa's death a decade ago: "Not always. Sometimes it happened just yesterday. Sometimes it's been a century."
Rosa started on oxy. But according to Kyle's scans her "frontostriatal loop is fine." And she produces "normal noradrenaline". Basically, Max healed all damage to her body including damage from her drug addiction.
Alex is listening to Next Time by All the Brightness on his headphones. Thanks @michaeldeluca for figuring it out!
Alex says that most of the Caulfield files are encrypted so there's not much to go on, but he was able to break Project Shepherd's encryptions in the bunker in S1, which again implies that maybe Caulfield is a bit bigger than Project Shepherd.
Michael's mother was marked N37. Her intake form was datestamped Oct 12, 1948, which is almost a year and a half after the crash (June 14, 1947).
Liz and Michael both didn't get handprints from Max, only Rosa. Liz's initial handprint from Max (in the pilot) lasted only a few days. Rosa's hasn't faded at all in 2 weeks.
Isobel's been practicing for 2 weeks and she showed signs of both Michael and Max's powers in this episode (possibly? exploding the lights in her house and blowing up the bowls could both be Michael's power if it was just telekenisis in both cases and not channeling electricity a'la Max)
Mamma Ortecho is "shacked up in Nebraska with some white guy named Dirk."
Michael says that he fixed the old (junked) ultrasound machine after Max died. That they did scans initily while Isobel was in the pod and they were working on the antidote. He had a scan of Max's healthy heart. Now "there's a void".
Michael says Max's heart was damaged before he "lassoed lightning" to kill Noah. He died of a heart attack. His heart is "shredded".
Rosa's 2nd dream: running from Noah and calling Liz to help her.
Noah says: "Strange creatures with familiar features. The alighting! They're coming for us Maximo!" All things he said to Max in the cave in episode 113.
Liz theorizes Rosa's dreams are the result of a psychic connection through the handprint to Max, that Rosa is seeing fragments of Max's memories.
Which means that Max's brain isn't fully dead. Liz explains to Rosa:. "if there's a part of his brain with coordinated electrical signaling, if there's consciousness, that means that there's oxygenated cells...if the connection to you kept his brain alive there's hope."
Cremating an alien body releases toxic fumes (according to Project Shepherd research from after the 1947 crash).
Flint was taking Noah's body to Area 51...where he has clearance and Alex doesn't.
Flint says: "There's a chain of command in this family."
Flint Manes was in the same grade as Rosa (meaning he's two years older than Alex).
During the dissection:
Liz: "It could be some kind of organic phosphorus?
Michael: "It's an unknown chemical compound. A distant derivative of phenyl-2-propanone. I could never figure out the 21st compound. But apparently it's the key to their nanotech and their biology. Our biology. I always thought it was synthetic but if it's organic the tech itself could have neural activity."
Liz: "Wait, you're saying you think these organs are part tech?"
Michael: "In human terms, I guess."
Liz: "That's good 'cause in the human world, broken tech can be fixed."
Translation: The alien organs (and the ship pieces) are part organic and part tech.
Rosa's 3rd nightmare...she is in the gazebo looking at her and Izzy/Noah's drawings from 2008 (episode 110), Noah approaches and she fights back this time. And then Noah uses his powers to choke her.
"All those books and you haven't figured religion out." When he approaches.
"Ophiuchus!" Yelled as he chokes her.
Max appears and lightning-lassoes Noah to free Rosa.
"I've been trying to get to you. I'm sorry to put you through this. You're the only one I can reach. Liz can't bring me back to life. Do you understand? No matter what it takes you have to stop her."
MUSIC:
1. Everclear "Santa Monica"
2. Stone Temple Pilots "Plush"
3. Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real "Bad Case"
4. Justin Townes Earle "Maybe A Moment"
5. Meredith Brooks "Bitch"
6. I See Hawks In LA "King Of Rosemead Boogie"
7. Hamish Anderson "You Give Me Something"
8. The Cranberries "Zombie"

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO: Co-showrunner Christopher Hollier chats Season 2 – Exclusive Interview
The executive producer talks about the CW reboot
The CW’s ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO is now on Monday nights in its second season. In the first season, young medical researcher Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason) returned to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico after years away to find out that her first love, Sheriff’s Department Deputy Max Evans (Nathan Parsons), his sister Isobel (Lily Cowles) and their brother Michael (Michael Vlamis) are all actually from another planet. Season 1 ended with Max sacrificing his life in order to resurrect Liz’s sister Rosa (Amber Midthunder).
As ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO Season 2 begins, Liz and her sometimes boyfriend Dr. Kyle Valenti (Michael Trevino), along with Isobel and Michael, are trying to figure out some way to bring Max back. Rosa, meanwhile, is having visions of Max begging her to stop the others from making the attempt.
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO co-show runner/executive producer Christopher Hollier fills us in, without getting too spoilery, on Season 2.
ASSIGNMENT X: What can you tease for Season 2? Nathan Parsons is still part of the cast, so one would guess Max doesn’t stay dead …
CHRISTOPHER HOLLIER: I don’t know. Rosa was dead the entire [first] season, we had her on the show. So it’s hard to tell. Every day we sit in the room and we try to figure out, how can we flip the script on every level. So …
AX: Will we be seeing aliens from multiple worlds, or just the one that Max, Isobel and Michael are from for the time being?
HOLLIER: I don’t know. I don’t know exactly how to answer that as we sort of jump into the pool this season. So I say anything’s a possibility.
AX: Last season, when she was herself, Isobel didn’t like Rosa. However, when Isobel was possessed by her husband Noah, played by Karan Oberoi, back when Isobel didn’t know he was also an alien, Isobel and Rosa were friendly. Is Isabel still going to have any friendly feelings for Rosa this season?
HOLLIER: Well, last year, that was actually all through Noah. We saw it. It was very interesting how we walked that line. I will say this. We do address that this season. We’ve had discussions about that, we’ve mapped out stories for it, so we’re going to get another bite at their, I’ll just say, relationship.
AX: Claudia Black plays Max and Isobel’s adoptive human mother. Was that casting out of fandom for STARGATE/FARSCAPE?
HOLLIER: Firstly, she was cast because she’s awesome. [ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO creator] Carina [Adly MacKenzie] and I both worked with her on THE ORIGINALS as well. And she also brings that huge cachet of that genre stuff. We talked about a story for Claudia Black, so I would look for her to make a return on some level in Season 2.
AX: ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO is actually shot in Sante Fe, New Mexico. Does that location change anything you wanted to do for good or ill?
HOLLIER: It’s actually helping us deepen our own mythology. Carina and I spent a lot of time over the summer looking at what actual things exist in Santa Fe and New Mexico for us to pull from. There’s so much of the Manhattan Project, so much science that was actually done by our government, in that place, that we’ve looked at a lot of that and blended that with the cultures that lived there.
AX: How much are the writers looking at creating your own mythology, and how much are you looking at Native American and/or Mexican mythology?
HOLLIER: We’re looking at all of it, actually. One of the things I’m really proud about is that we continue to diversify our room, so knowing some of those elements, we brought more of that in, so we have a lot to pick and choose from, and sort of blend.
AX: Besides the earlier ROSWELL series, which your show is based on, have you looked at any other shows that have dealt with Roswell and gone, “Okay, maybe we can tweak that,” or, “We really don’t want to do that”? For example, THE X-FILES has had a lot of Roswell …
HOLLIER: Sure. There are some people that are huge, huge fans of those, and we try to break in a vacuum. And then sometimes if we touch the same things, someone will bring it up, and we’ll see if we can spin it, or if we want to do an homage to it, but we’re always looking for our unique take on that line.
AX: Has there one been character that was particularly easy for you to find a voice for, or one character who was particularly hard for you to find a voice for?
HOLLIER: I’ll say that our cast is great, so it’s fun to write for all of them. I really liked writing for Michael. I thought he was a lot of fun, just because he’s got a devious streak in him.
AX: In ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO Season 1, what do you feel best about, what are you happiest about?
HOLLIER: I actually like that we held the twist. One of my favorite things is watching people read online who they thought the villain was, being wrong, people loving and rooting for Noah, and all the while, he was actually the villain, disguised the whole time. So that was my favorite thing to watch it land.
AX: How big is ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO Season 2?
HOLLIER: Definitely bigger. Carina very smartly broke something that was very small just as it started, knowing that we wanted to grow it, so we definitely have a plan – I think it takes a big step up. We have a lot more new characters coming in, and the world is definitely going to feel bigger.
AX: And what would you most like people to know about Season 2?
HOLLIER: Come back and watch. If they think they’ve got their firm footing on what we’ve got to show them, we actually have a whole other big, big box of where to take this story.
This interview was conducted during The CW’s party for the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour.

The Zodiac Killer:
Who is the Zodiac Killer? How many People did he kill? Was he caught? The self-proclaimed Zodiac Killer was linked directly to at least five murders in 1968 and 1969 in Northern California and may have been responsible for more. He taunted the police and made threats by letters sent from 1969 to 1974 to local newspapers, before abruptly ceasing communication. No one was ever arrested for the crimes, despite intensive investigations, and the case remains open. Many books and films have been the subject of the mystery surrounding the murders, including the acclaimed 2007 feature Zodiac by director David Fincher. The Zodiac Killer is the alias of an unknown serial killer living in Northern California from the late 1960s to the early 1970s at least. Between December 1968 and October 1969, the Zodiac murdered victims in Benicia, Vallejo, Napa County, and San Francisco. The killer killed four men and three women aged 16 to 29, with two of the men surviving attempted assassination. The Zodiac itself claimed up to 37 victims were killed. In a series of taunting letters and cards sent to the local Bay Area media, the murderer coined the name "Zodiac." Four cryptograms (or ciphers) were included in the documents. Only one of the four cryptograms sent was eventually resolved.
Zodiac Killer Letters, Symbol & Cipher: on August 1, 1969, each of  three editors received an identical handwritten letter in an envelope without a return address from the San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle and Vallejo Times-Herald. Beginning with "Dear Editor: I'm the murderer of the two teenagers at Lake Herman last Christmas," the letters included specifics of the killings of the Zodiac Killer that only the killer could have learned. If the letters were not printed on the papers ' front page, the killer continued to threaten further attacks. Every letter ended with a symbol consisting of a circle with a cross through it, in what would become known as the symbol of the Zodiac Killer
Here are some of The Zodiac Killers victims that had been confirmed and that they police suspected he murdered.
Confirmed Victims:
Although the Zodiac claimed to have committed 37 murders in letters to the newspapers, investigators agree on only seven confirmed victims, two of whom survived. They are:
 ·        David Arthur Faraday, 17, and Betty Lou Jensen, 16: shot and killed on December 20, 1968, on Lake Herman Road, within the city limits of Benicia. Coordinates: 38°5′41.61″N 122°8′38.24″W
·        Michael Renault Mageau, 19, and Darlene Elizabeth Ferrin, 22: shot on July 4, 1969, in the parking lot of Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo. While Mageau survived the attack, Ferrin was pronounced dead on arrival at Kaiser Foundation Hospital. Coordinates: 38°7′33.56″N 122°11′27.94″W
·        Bryan Calvin Hartnell, 20, and Cecelia Ann Shepard, 22: stabbed on September 27, 1969, at Lake Berryessa in Napa County. Hartnell survived eight stab wounds to the back, but Shepard died as a result of her injuries on September 29, 1969. Coordinates: 38°33′48.29″N 122°13′54.43″W
·        Paul Lee Stine, 29: shot and killed on October 11, 1969, in the Presidio Heights neighborhood in San Francisco. Coordinates: 37°47′19.47″N 122°27′25.54″W
Suspected Victims:
The following murder victims are suspected to be victims of Zodiac, though none have been confirmed:
 ·        Robert Domingos, 18, and Linda Edwards, 17: shot and killed on June 4, 1963, on a beach near Gaviota. Edwards and Domingos were identified as possible Zodiac victims because of specific similarities between their attack and the Zodiac's attack at Lake Berryessa six years later. Coordinates: 34°28′11.20″N 120°10′7.14″W
·        Cheri Jo Bates, 18: stabbed to death and nearly decapitated on October 30, 1966, at Riverside City College in Riverside. Bates's possible connection to the Zodiac only appeared four years after her murder when San Francisco Chronicle reporter Paul Avery received a tip regarding similarities between the Zodiac killings and the circumstances surrounding Bates's death.[6] College coordinates: 33°58′19″N 117°22′52″W
·        Donna Lass, 25: last seen September 6, 1970, in Stateline, Nevada. A postcard with an advertisement from Forest Pines condominiums (near Incline Village at Lake Tahoe) pasted on the back was received at the Chronicle on March 22, 1971 and has been interpreted as the Zodiac claiming Lass's disappearance as a victim. No evidence has been uncovered to connect Lass's disappearance with the Zodiac Killer definitively.[7]
The Zodiac is also a suspect in the unsolved Santa Rosa hitchhiker murders.[8][9][10]
There is also a suspected third escapee from the Zodiac Killer:
 ·        Kathleen Johns, 22: allegedly abducted on March 22, 1970, on Highway 132 near I-580, in an area west of Modesto. Johns escaped from the car of a man who drove her and her infant daughter around the area between Stockton and Patterson for approximately 1½ hours.[11] Junction 132/I-580 coordinates: 37°38′16.14″N 121°23′55.22″W
The polices nightmare: Lake Herman Road attack: The first assassinations widely attributed to the Zodiac Killer were the killing of high school students Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on December 20, 1968, on Lake Herman Boulevard, just within the city limits of Benicia. The pair were about three blocks from Jensen's home on their first date and planned to attend a Christmas concert at Hogan High School. Instead, the couple visited a friend before parking at a local restaurant and driving on Lake Herman Avenue. Faraday parked the Rambler of his mother at about 10:15 p.m. in a gravel turnout, which was a well-known lane of lovers. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., Stella Borges, who lived nearby, found their bodies. The Department of the Solano County Sheriff investigated the crime, but there were no leads. More details include, Robert Graysmith, using available forensic data, postulated that another car would pull into the turnout just before 11:00 pm and park next to the couple. Apparently, the killer left the second car and walked towards the Rambler, possibly ordering the pair out of the Rambler. Jensen appears to have left the car first, but the murderer apparently shot him in the head when Faraday was halfway out. The attacker then shot Jensen in the back five times as she fled; 28 meters from the car found her body. Then the killer drove away.
Lake Berryessa attack: On September 27, 1969, on a small island connected by a sand spit to Twin Oak Ridge, Pacific Union College students Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard were picnicking at Lake Berryessa. A white man weighing more than 170 pounds (77 kg) with combed greasy brown hair, about 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m), approached them wearing a black executioner-type hood with clip-on sunglasses over the eyeholes and a bib-like device on his chest that had a white three-by-three-inch (7.6 cm) cross-circle logo on it. With a gun, which Hartnell believed to be a.45, he approached them. The man with the cap claimed to be an escape convict from a two-word prison in either Colorado or Montana, where he killed the guard and then stolen a car, explaining that he now needed their car and money to get to Mexico, as the vehicle he was driving was "too hot"
At 7:40, the killer rang out of a payphone to announce the new crime to the office of the Napa County Sheriff. He first told the operator he wanted to "trace an assassination-not a double assassination," before revealing that he was the perpetrator.  Only a few blocks from the Sheriff's office but still 43 miles (27 miles) from the crime scene, the phone was found, still off the hook, by KVON radio reporter, Pat Stanley, minutes later on at Napa Car Wash on Main Street. Detectives could take a still wet palm print from their mobile but could never fit it. When a man and his son heard their cry for help in a nearby cove, they located the victims and sought help in contact with park rangers. They were fishing. The first law enforcement officers to come to the crime scene were Dave Collins and Ray Land detectives of Napa County Sheriff. Cecelia Shepard was aware of the detailed description of the attacker when Collins arrived. The Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa was brought by the ambulance, Hartnell and Shepard. In transportation to the hospital, Shepard lapsed into a coma and never recovered consciousness. Two days later she died, but Hartnell lived to tell his story to the press. Sheriff Inspector of Napa County
The Final Letter that the San Francisco Police gotten from The Zodiac Killer: The Zodiac remained quiet for almost three years following the card "Pines." A letter, published on 29 January 1974 by Zodiac, hailed The Exorcist as "the best satirical comedy I've ever seen" The letter contained a snippet from the Mikado and an unusual lower symbol, which the researchers did not explain. The letter "Me= 37, SF PD= 0" came to an end by Zodiac. So, if The Zodiac Killer was never caught what is the status of the case? The SFPD labeled the case "inactive" in April 2004, citing pressure on caseloads and demands for resources that effectively shut down the case. Sometime before March 2007, however, they reopened their case. In the county of Napa and Riverside the case was then opened. Did the police have any suspects?
In May 2018, the police department of Vallejo announced that it wished to try to collect the DNA from the back of his correspondence. The analysis will take the advanced new method of separating DNA from the adhesive on the back of the stamps, used by a private laboratory. There were five suspected to be The Zodiac Killer which are named: Arthur Leigh Allen, Jack Tarrance, George Russell Tucker, Louis Joseph Myers, and lastly Earl Van Best Jr. The Zodiac killer is supposed to be captured in the same way as the Golden State Killer. A policeman from Vallejo said results were expected in several weeks in May 2018. Nonetheless, no findings were announced by December 2019.  Two famous quotes from The Zodiac Killer: “The police shall never catch me, because I have been too clever for them.”– Zodiac Killer, and “I want to report a murder... no, a double murder. They are two miles north of Park Headquarters. They were in a white Volkswagen Kharmann Ghia. I'm the one that did it.”– Zodiac Killer.

Four Northern California sheriff's deputies were injured, one critically, during a gunfight early Monday with a suspect who led them on a car chase and opened fire on them before dying in a crash, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just after midnight local time near Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, authorities said. The suspect was killed after crashing his vehicle, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
"During the pursuit, the suspect stopped, fired shots at the deputies, and continued the pursuit. Deputies returned fire and, ultimately, the suspect crashed the vehicle he was driving," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation by the Santa Rosa Police Department.
One of the deputies involved in the incident suffered a head injury and was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, according to the sheriff's office. Another deputy suffered a bullet wound to the leg, and two others sustained unspecified injuries to their hands, the sheriff's office said.
The names of the dead suspect and the injured deputies were not immediately released.
The incident unfolded when the deputies responded to investigate a report of a person brandishing a rifle in an unincorporated Sonoma County area west of Santa Rosa, according to the sheriff's office.
When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, who got into a vehicle and sped off, leading the deputies on a chase, the sheriff's office said.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It was not immediately clear if he died from injuries suffered in the crash or if he was shot by one of the deputies who returned fire.
The Santa Rosa Police Department was assigned to investigate the incident after the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office invoked a critical incident protocol for officer-involved shooting.
The sheriff's department said the chase and gunfight were captured on body-worn cameras the deputies were equipped with. The footage is expected to be made public at some point in keeping with state law, according to the sheriff's department.
