theres a scene i havent written yet but i cant stop thinking about it so im gonna ramble for a second

picture: gemma and elias in their tent. it's pretty crammed, two beds, one of them in each bed. neither sleeping, just staring at the ceiling in silence.

enter theodore, fresh from being tortured by his mother. no marks on his body but they can FEEL his weariness. it's pervasive. it sours the air. he says nothing. gemma and elias close their eyes and pretend to be asleep. they dont want to embarrass him. they dont know what to say.

theodore crawls into bed with elias. it's small, only room enough for one body, but elias makes space, holding him instinctually. pulls the blanket over him. rests a hand in his hair.

and theodore just absolutely breaks down. im talking full body sobs, loud, messy. this is his prince, this is the heir of death weeping in his arms. and there's nothing he can do. he can't fix it.

one arm around his shoulders, the other over his waist, theodore's trembling body pressed to his. and elias says nothing.

he's not sure when he falls asleep. probably some time after theodore wore himself out, sobs slowing into gasps and then sniffles. but he wakes up, and his arms are empty. as if it never happened.

and gemma! oh my god! gemma who heard the entire thing! gemma who used to be the one to hold him! she says, "some advice? take what he gives you. accept what he doesn't."

if i planned better i would’ve set up a queue but. i live my life the way i write. no forethought just vibes

i keep seeing that post about people taking "write what you know" so literally and like. no, you don't know what it's like to be a sea cucumber.

but you know what it's like to be small. to be pushed around by a current that you can't control. to be surrounded by things like and unlike yourself, unsure who is a friend and who is a predator. you know what it's like to be underestimated and dismissed. to look up at the sun and know it's so far away. you know what it's like to carry on anyway.

you dont have to know what it's like to be a sea cucumber or a dragon or a talking pig. but maybe they feel like you.
