I want to talk about why I think this is the one of the most important Falin panels:
Tumblr media
So, Falin is really nice, right? It's one of the first things we really learn about her. She's kind even to the monsters of the dungeon - choosing to ward the party rather than fight spirits and cause them needless harm.
Tumblr media
In the above early flashback in chapter 11, we see Marcille fawning over Falin's kindness, calling her an angel. Namari calls her soft-hearted. We see Falin choose not to fight even when a zombie attacks - instead she resolves the confrontation with a hug. After the flashback, the first thing Senshi says is that Falin "sounds like quite the person," which Marcille strongly affirms.
At this point in the story, all we have seen of Falin are these impressions; she is a healer, an angel, a caretaker with an infinite well of kindness towards everyone she meets - both friend and foe.
And honestly, that remains most of what we have to go by to understand her. The only times we get to see Falin on the page, alive and just herself, are in the opening and closing pages of the story and in the brief period of time after she is resurrected.
Nonetheless, we do have some more details to work with. For one, there is the scene that The Panel is from - a short memory in chapter 75, when Marcille flashes back to while she's dying. In that scene, Falin prepares to teleport them all out, and says that she's sorry "if there is a person at [their] destination." And that's when we get The Panel.
If you teleport someone or something into another person, the person teleported into is likely to be, at minimum, severely injured. They could die.
We can see a lovely little horrifying example of exactly why in one of the Daydream Hour doodles:
Tumblr media
So, hmm. That's not... that's not SUPER nice. Certainly not displaying the same "kindness to all, friend and foe included" we saw represented earlier. On a basic level, this adds some nuance to Falin's kindness. We see it break a little, when pushed to the limit. We see her chose to protect the people she loves above all else.
Which makes sense! As Laios says when the Winged Lion accuses him of similarly being motivated more by his friends' safety than everyone else in the dungeon, "...most people, aside from virtuous do-gooders, would feel the same way."
So, we can take The Panel as simply showing a moment of weakness for Falin. A time when she was pushed to her limits, and that "most people" selfish side of her shone through.
However... I think there's a little more going on with Falin than just her being an angel 99% of the time, except just that once. I love The Panel because I think it helps us understand that Falin isn't just motivated by kindness - she also has a desire to avoid seeing people in pain.
Isn't that the same thing?
No, no it very much is not.
Let's look at a short comic from the Falin section of the Adventurer's Bible, because I think it illustrates this point perfectly. The group is complaining about how much Marcille's healing hurts, and comparing it to Falin's, which "doesn't hurt a bit." Marcille retorts with the following:
Tumblr media
Now, the punchline of this comic is that, despite Marcille's sentimental assertion that she's "thinking of [them]" by letting her healing magic hurt, they all still prefer to be healed by Falin.
But hey, this wouldn't be the first time that Dungeon Meshi hides a very real character beat or insight in a gag, so let's think about this somewhat seriously.
If Marcille is right (and she knows a fair bit about magic, so we can assume that she has at least somewhat of a point), then what Falin is doing isn't kind. I suppose if someone specifically requested to not feel the pain, it could be kind, but that's not really what happened here. She is the one who felt badly about the others being in pain, and she is the one who decided, without telling them or giving them a choice in the matter, to take away that pain.
Both Marcille and Falin are healing the party, but Marcille is doing it in a way that accomplishes the task in the most straight forward way, without any additional interference. Falin is going out of her way to perform the healing in a way she is more comfortable with. A way that avoids pain.
Going back the The Panel, I don't think its a coincidence that the only time we see Falin (well, non-chimera Falin) willing to do something that could hurt someone is when any potential pain will be far away from her. If she got someone hurt or killed by teleporting the party to the surface? Not only would it be far out of her sight, but she'd be dead before she had to deal with any consequences of that action.
Falin is not a confrontational person. She doesn't push when Marcille won't tell her the truth about the resurrection, and she comforts Laios about her own death - both of those things happening in the only full chapter she is alive and conscious in the whole story.
We also know that she considered accepting Shuro's proposal, despite not having any special feelings towards him, and that Falin never explained to Marcille that she wanted them to share a meal together. When she brought Marcille various foods at the academy, she just accepted Marcille's confused rejection and gave up.
Tumblr media
And lastly, we know that she is still in contact with her parents, despite the neglect and abuse she suffered at their hands. Although the way someone chooses to handle contact with abusive or bad family is a complicated topic, which I don't want to overly simplify, I do I think this fact gets at the heart of how she handles conflict.
So many people that Falin loves have hurt her. There are understandable hurts, like Laios leaving the village, or Marcille not understanding the food. And there are bigger, far less justifiable hurts - like her parents neglecting her throughout her childhood, and sending her away to be alone at the magic academy.
It doesn't seem like Falin has ever confronted any of it directly.
And the unhealthy aspects of this kind of avoidance of pain and confrontation is one of the things that the story of Dungeon Meshi is all about. We see Laios grapple with it before he goes to kill Falin, and we see Marcille acknowledge it at the end of the story, when she tells Laios that she has come to terms with Falin's death:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eating is a part of life. Consuming other living things is a part of life. It isn't really possible to avoid that pain - you can only hide from the truth of it. You have to be selfish everyday. You have to eat - to choose to live. To choose to take up space.
And this is something Falin embraces, too. She comes back to life, after all.
We see her choose to come back to life.
And how does she make that choice? She eats. She consumes, and then she is asked a question by the manifestation of hunger itself:
Tumblr media
Do you want to eat more?
There is a double meaning in the Winged Lion's final words on the next page.
Tumblr media
When I first read this, I took it as him saying: life is cruel. You will suffer. You will feel more pain.
But perhaps, especially for Falin, this also means: you are choosing a path where you must cause pain. Where you must consume. Where you must take, and must be selfish. Because eating is the special privilege of the living, and it is their burden, too. In order to stay alive, she will need to keep eating.
And she chooses that. Chooses to be selfish. It's why her resurrection scene is so important, and it's why The Panel is so important. Because Falin coming back isn't the ultimate reward for all of the party's hard work.
It's her choice. Just like it was her choice that started everything in the first place. But this time, she doesn't choose to accept causing pain for the sake of Marcille and Laios. She does it for her own sake.

i have to get this out of the way, re: dungeon meshi discussions
major spoilers ahead, obviously.
you know for a series that focuses so much on platonic and familial relationships it’s weird that dungeon meshi has attracted so much useless ship wars though. the most important driving force in the story is two sibling relationships (laios’s search for falin, thistle’s search for delgal) and one of the central themes is how loving others way too much can lead to your downfall (thistle’s desperate attempt to keep his loved ones leads to his mental state deteriorating so much he starts torturing people he claims to protect, marcille’s fear of losing her friends leads to her being easily manipulated by the main antagonist)
even with regards to falin. thistle wants to bring the ‘brother’ he raised back at all costs, he saw a young human woman as nothing more than a dragon, his tool. marcille wants to bring falin back at all costs, she didn’t care about the repercussions of using monster meat instead of animal meat even though she was an expert at ancient magic and should know why it’s such a dangerous practice.
each and every single one of the major characters has some form of tragedy with their family one way or another: the toudens, marcille and her dad. chilchuck and his wife. senshi’s entire backstory. izutsumi’s hidden desire for a mother. namari’s father. shuro and his family. kabru and his mother(both tallman and elf). mithrun and his brother. thistle and the melinis.
even some of the minor characters: flamela and her dead twin sister. the twins and the floke couple. kuro being the closest mickbell has to a family. etc etc
as someone who has reread this manga several times by now, i wonder if people just… read it once as fast as they could and act like they’re some sort of authority on fan discussion. i’ve seen people brag about reading the entire thing in one sitting as if it’s something to be proud of. this manga isn’t meant to be read that fast, that’s how you get people claiming that laios doesn’t reaaally love falin as much as marcille does.
to these people, laios just gets in the way, as if it wasn’t his idea to go down the dungeon in the first place, it wasn’t him who said his pain doesn’t matter because falin suffered more than him, it wasn’t him who felt immense guilt for leaving falin behind, it wasn’t him who found her skull, it wasn’t him who killed her to save her from her chimera form. i feel like people forget about the ‘too’ part when marcille said “i miss falin too”
marcille knows how much falin and laios love each other. that’s why she asked him if she’s allowed to resurrect her and didn’t act on her own. that’s why when both times a shapeshifting monster copied marcille to trick laios, it was what she looked like at the time she was reviving falin.
as someone who DOES ship farcille, none of the romance is canon. this isn’t meant to be anti-farcille. one of the post-canon comics is about falin gently turning down shuro because she wants to travel the world, “you can’t tie a dragon down” after all. she wants to travel the world and find herself because she doesn’t know who she is outside of marcille and laios. even marcille, who was hoping she’d reject him, tears up because of how beautiful and tragic it was.
there are a lot of ship teases because what author doesn’t like a good ship tease. but to say that dungeon meshi is a romantic love more than it is a story about family(both real and found) is a great misinterpretation of the text.

Analysis of Laios and how he hugs/interacts with people, pre and post-manga.
Reading body language in real life is basically pseudo-science most of the time, however, these aren't candid photographs of real people I'm analyzing, they are drawings purposefully made by Ryoko Kui to tell us something about Laios and his relationships with other characters.
These illustrations are designed on purpose to communicate information. So what do I think they say?
Here's the illustration of how things are at the start of the manga:
Tumblr media
NAMARI AND CHILCHUCK
They're both rough towards Laios, expressing displeasure with him, using violent physical touch to get his attention or punish him for something.
TOSHIRO
His reaction to Laios is totally passive. He isn't turned towards Laios, but he isn't turning away either. He's staring up into space with a look of discomfort, suggesting he wishes Laios would leave him alone... But that he is too polite to openly reject him.
We know this is partially a cultural issue: because Toshiro is Japanese, he considers it catastrophically rude to tell someone "no" in a blunt way. He is trying to communicate his discomfort and disinterest to Laios, but Laios isn't understanding Toshiro's signals.
Meanwhile, Laios is turning his whole body towards Toshiro, his eyes are wide open, he's smiling. He's very eager to interact, in a way that he isn't with any other character on this page except Falin.
MARCILLE
They are having a neutral interaction. Neither of them seems excited or interested in each other, but they are talking seriously. Marcille is gesturing at Laios in a way that seems scolding, they are standing at a polite distance, and Laios is standing at his full height, perhaps even leaning/straining away from Marcille slightly. There is a physical object (Marcille's staff) acting as a barrier, and it's physically pushing Laios away from her.
But it is worth noting that he has his hand on the staff, suggesting that he's not letting himself be pushed away any further, that he's having a reciprocal interaction with Marcille, not a passive one where he just stands there and gets lectured. Laios is participating and engaged.
FALIN AND SENSHI
The only people having unambiguously positive interactions with Laios on this page, which makes sense since they are the two people who are the most friendly towards him at the start of the manga.
Laios and Falin are touching hands, smiling and their bodies are turned towards each other, showing enthusiasm and a mutual interest. This is less intense than the hug in the post-manga illustrations, which maybe suggests that there's something distant and unresolved between them here, like resentment and guilt.
Laios and Senshi are closer to each other than Laios and Marcille. Laios is sitting or crouched down to get closer to Senshi's height, and they are both smiling and turned towards each other. Senshi may even be laughing!
Here's the "post-manga" image...
Tumblr media
What a huge difference!
All of these interactions are basically positive, so I'll just go left to right, top to bottom. Also for some of these, we can't see Laios' friends full reactions, so I'll focus on what we can see, and how Laios is behaving.
SENSHI
They share a gentle hug. They both have their arms wrapped around each other, so the desire to touch is mutual. Laios bends to reach Senshi, and has a calm, content smile on his face while they hug. Laios rests his head on top of Senshi's head, showing trust and intimacy and a desire to be physically even closer to Senshi than just hugging. Senshi isn't pulling away, so I think that's a good indicator that he doesn't mind it, and possibly even likes it!
Which is a big change from how he felt violated by Laios touching his chest earlier in the manga, even though Laios was trying to heal him... I think Senshi isn't someone that easily lets others touch him, so this is a big improvement.
CHILCHUCK
The size difference makes this hug awkward, but that's not the only reason! Laios has both hands on Chilchuck and he is bending down in order to reach him, suggesting that he wants to embrace his friend, however Chilchuck is not straining to reach Laios, and he is only using one hand to touch him, suggesting that Chilchuck doesn't want to embrace too closely. Chilchuck is willing to allow a hug, and he is willing to touch Laios back, but he doesn't want it as much as Laios does.
I think Laios is aware of this, because he isn't trying to push the hug to a higher level of intensity. He's holding back to the level he thinks Chilchuck is comfortable with.
MARCILLE
They share a happy, but not overly intimate hug. Their chests and bodies are pressed together, but they are turning their heads away from each other.
Laios' hands are resting side by side on Marcille's back, and it seems like she is hugging him back in a similarly loose way. His arms are not overlapping, and they aren't squeezing or grabbing each other, just holding on lightly while pressing their chests together.
TOSHIRO
What a fascinating set of drawings!
I'm going to assume that the color drawing is what happens first, and the black and white line drawing is what happens afterwards, solely because if the black and white drawing is meant to just be Laios' fantasy of hugging Toshiro, then surely he would imagine Toshiro hugging him back enthusiastically, and not a more passive reaction like Kui drew.
Kui wrote a note here to remind readers that hugging is not considered normal in "the East", where Toshiro is from, to give context to why the character seems so uncomfortable.
Laios is approaching Toshiro at high speed, arms open and reaching for Toshiro, eyes wide, with a happy expression. He clearly wants to wrap Toshiro up in a big, enthusiastic hug.
Toshiro is sweating with discomfort, and he has a hand pressed against Laios' chest, attempting to stop him… However, the arm is not extended and his elbow is bent at an acute angle, and it looks as if no force is being applied. Toshiro perhaps feels a need to offer a token protest, but he isn't really trying to stop Laios.
In the black and white hug drawing, Laios has both arms wrapped tight around Toshiro, much tighter than Senshi, Chilchuck or Marcille, and he's pressing their bodies together and resting his head on Toshiro's shoulder. He's turning his face towards Toshiro's neck, and smiling serenely.
Toshiro's body is stiff, he's sweating, and his arm is held at a rigid 90 degree angle… But he isn't using it to push Laios away, just holding it uselessly at his side. Perhaps he is half-way towards returning the hug, thinking about lifting his arm a little higher and resting his hand on Laios' back, but he isn't sure if he wants to do that yet.
Toshiro is bending his body towards Laios, and allowing himself to be pressed against the other man. He's staring out into space with a neutral expression that suggests either discomfort or surprise. I think we're meant to understand that he has given up fighting against the foreign, offensive hug, realizing that it isn't offensive for Laios, and therefore it might be okay to allow it...and it might actually be more offensive if he rejected the hug.
FALIN
Falin has thrown herself at Laios with considerable force, and Laios has his arms overlapping across Falin's back. They are both squeezing each other tightly with their arms, and even Laios' hands are gripping Falin tightly. There is an overjoyed look on Laios' face, and I think this embrace shows how Laios has healed through the course of the story.
KABRU
Since Kabru is one of Laios' newest friends, it makes sense that the hug would be the least intimate.
The two of them have a complicated relationship in the manga, but the complete world bible shows that Laios has finally accepted that Kabru is genuinely his friend and not just trying to use or manipulate him. He's made an effort in the post-canon to reach out and try to be Kabru's friend in return, and Kabru has forgiven Laios for not listening to him in the past.
Kabru is turning his body away from Laios, which puts his shoulder towards Laios' shoulder at a perpendicular angle, forcing distance between them. Laios is fully facing Kabru, and has one arm behind his back, a hand resting on Kabru's shoulder, and another hand resting on his chest. The hand on the chest is attached to an arm that is bent at an obtuse angle, holding Kabru at a distance, with no indication that he is trying to pull Kabru in. Both hands are relaxed, like in the Marcille hug, indicating that Laios' grasp is loose.
This arm position is pretty unusual for an embrace. It allows Laios to keep Kabru at a distance where he can see him, and control where he moves, and how close he's able to get to Laios… and Kabru isn't returning the hug in any way, instead allowing himself to be touched and held in place.
Their bodies aren't pressed together, and Kabru's arm is down at his side, neither encouraging Laios nor pushing him away.
Laios has a big smile on his face, and he looks enthusiastic. Kabru on the other hand has a calm smile. In my opinion his expression is less enthusiastic than Marcille's.
I think Laios can't tell how Kabru feels about the hug, and so he's holding himself back. He's not blinded by emotion like he is with Toshiro, so he's not flinging himself at Kabru… And because Kabru is such a new friend, Laios is also probably hesitant to get too close to him.
There may also be some lingering trust issues, if Laios still isn't completely certain if Kabru genuinely likes him or not. Laios has often had trouble telling if people really like him, or if they are just being polite (Toshiro), or using him (former party members), so it makes sense that it would take awhile for him and Kabru to become truly comfortable with each other..

Dungeon Meshi Quick Reacts: CH45
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slumber party!
Tumblr media
Fair, but consider: She deserves a little murder. As a treat.
Tumblr media
Kabru be like "IS THAT MY BACKSTORY???"
Tumblr media
That sure is....a ship. With no one on it.
Tumblr media
Ah, shit the Americans are here.
Tumblr media
Two things: Toshiro being tended to like a pretty pretty princess is hilarious.
And also, the fact that they think the elves can kill Falin......... hmmm.... Pressing X to doubt.
Tumblr media
............... oh. Laios. 😂
But also like. How was he MEANT to keep it silent? Put a little something in it? I thought since it was a magic bell you could code it to only ring when it's shaken with INTENT?
Tumblr media
Fancy ass house.
Also, Namari...........are you hitting that yet? Both of that?
Tumblr media
Oh, it's backstory time.
Tumblr media
Okay one: that's fucking tragic, it sounds like the Elves are just forcing the dungeons closed with no regard for how the ecosystem compensates and what people suffer by being in close proximity......
And another thing: Kabru. Kabru, isn't that what YOU'RE after? Having all the power?
Tumblr media
Why is this so much like that one meme where the girls at the party are looking at you.
Tumblr media
It's the same picture.
Tumblr media
Kabru that's. That's maybe not the way to go about it. you're going to give them MORE reasons to go in.
Tumblr media
Nevermind the governor not being into this 'good boy, now sign' talk, Toshiro's kinda right. Ya fucked up Kabru.
Tumblr media
No matter how far Laios runs, he cannot escape other people trying to tell him how to live his life. Poor guy. But at the same time...
Tumblr media
Is this real? Or a red herring?
Laios' father and mother seemed to be living relatively pious lives. They clearly had a good house, but it didn't seem like they were extremely rich. Then again, perhaps he's just a cousin of royalty? Is that why his parents wanted him to have children?
Tumblr media
They want to.... halt the growth of the dungeon? Is this another part of the natural ecosystem of things? Dungeons growing seems to point even more towards the idea that it's a gigantic, fleshpit-like creature instead of simply a construct.
Then again, constructs CAN be creatures. Like the golems.
Tumblr media
Elves not understanding how old humans are continues to be hilarious because like.
As humans, we HAVE this same concept of variant aging. Like. Dogs. We understand that dogs live less than us, and mature a lot slower. But this is.... COMMON KNOWLEDGE. Most people do not make it into adulthood without understanding that dogs mature within 1-2 years of their birth.
The fact that elves, a species with FAR more time on their hands, who have lived alongside other races for AGES....... have STILL not got the general concept of aging down....means their education is atrocious. Or they're all not paying attention.
Tumblr media
.......this. THIS is the most fascinating concept in this chapter.
The fallen.... turned into MONSTERS.
We know that dying inside the dungeon doesn't mean permanent death. But dying above-ground does.
We know that dying in the dungeon doesn't mean your body turns into a monster (aside from ghosts and ghouls?) ..... but dying aboveground.... DOES......?
WHAT'S THE TRUTH.
Tumblr media
👁👁
Hm.
Tumblr media
If Kabru and Laios fused, they could almost make one functioning human being.
Tumblr media
Senshi just beginning to speak in the middle of his own internal monologue is so real.
Tumblr media
...... what's going on there with the expression, buddy?
Tumblr media
Bread.......are they STILL carrying around flour with them?! How are they getting bread?!
Also, it's awesome that the eggs are canonically hard to crack, because it makes sense that they don't break during their many fighting events.
Tumblr media
Izutsumi really said ◉_◉
Tumblr media
Don't tell me Laios, who is sensitive to ghosts has ALSO been seeing things?
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, that's highkey terrifying.
Tumblr media
Props to that ghost that's been following Laios around, not ever giving up hope that it can bother him into acknowledging it.
And also - hey, it already saved them once! that means it's probably not evil!
That, or it's the king of the bloody dungeon. Wouldn't that be something!

Chilchuck is a tsundere dad,
and why did he stick with Laios?
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 30/48/56/ADVENTURE'S BIBLE ONWARDS.
Chilchuck Tims is a rogue. A bitter old rogue. But I guess it's more accurate to call him a professional adventurer. That's probably what people want to see him as. He's very pragmatic and realistic but sarcastic and prideful. The man is on the verge of retiring with a few things to his name. He founded a halfling union and is respected in his community as *the* guy that can go deeper down the dungeon. Chil gave his life for dungeoneering, he knows the politics and the dirty side of his job. Some people can see him as an insurance in their team. Because he has the skills and brains to keep you safe, go deeper and that you are paid well.
But why the hell did Chilchuck agreed to join on Laios' suicide mission?
Think about it.
Half of Laios' team are either dead or left the group, the remaining is a weird oddball of a leader and the other is a mess of an elf that doesn't really see you as an adult. They both can be reckless and can definitely get themselves killed. The group is also low on supplies and desperate for food. So there's that.
Although he may criticize the group, he is close to one member, Namari. He knows her situation and they share the same pragmatic view and drinks together. So why didn’t he follow in Namari's footsteps.
But yes in chapter 30 we actually got to know that Chilchuck actually cares about the group underneath his cynicism and sarcasm. Because unlike his optimistic and outlandish companions, he is the straight man.
But think again and I know he cares. But if he actually cared, he would not let Laios and Marcille to even set foot in the dungeon to their death. Remember he agreed to these deadly conditions before meeting Senshi. Deadly conditions that a seasoned adventurer like himself should already know. But he accepted it and was calmer about it as well.
So, does he trust the group? Does he not trust the group? Should he trust Laios?
Lets look at Chilchuck's most polarizing topic, group relations.
Despite Chil's critical nature, I think in my opinion Chilchuck respects and recognize everyone's strengths and weaknesses. But because he knows people's qualities, he likes to point them out and berate them from making further mistakes. He's harsh, but he wants to keep everyone alive. So that's why I think he sometimes see Laios and Marcille as immature or irresponsible at time. In turn, I think he sees himself as the most capable/reliable person in the group. With good reasons of course.
He knows how close Falin is to everybody, he will surely keep note of it. So when Laios and Marcille are automatically ready to save Falin despite deadly odds, I don't think he's surprised, he's sure they will die for Falin and no one will be there to revive them. But I don't think Chilchuck wants to see the remaining member go to their deaths and as the person that's supposed to keep everyone alive, he must have some guilt. After all, in some ways, he still cares for his own family, so he might understand Laios. But because of how reckless Laios is and how stubborn Marcille can be, I don't think he can stop them from going further. He'll help and he'll just ride along with these insane people.
Abit related. Isn't this against his halfling union's objective. Using a highly skilled halfling to their advantage on minimal pay to go on a deadly adventure. Surely this breaks his own code, right? But he does it anyways.
Despite not liking interpersonal group conflict and being as professional as possible. There's a point in time that Chilchuck actually got attached to them, to the point where he will break his own code. Whether he likes it or not. I think that he thinks that without him, the group and/or the rescue will break apart quickly and he really does not want his group to break.
Chilchuck is not tragic (compared to others), he has a relatively normal life but definitely unfortunate. Unlike the rest, his loss at most is his wife leaving him. The loss of a love fleeing you for a reason you do not know, the fear of chasing is evident. He also keeps in touch with his daughters as well. He cares but I guess prefers an independent approach.
I did notice the way he describe his daughters is similar to how he sees the others. He describe his daughters weakness, interest and strengths. He's perceptive not just with his senses, but others as well. Like how he knew that Laios have always wanted to try eating monsters and how peculiar Senshi is. He has to know people to keep them safe of course, that's how he shows that he cares.
To dive deeper, the way he cares is different from others. Senshi takes on the more nurturing approach, he sees the others as younglings that needs to feed and take care of, to protect them is his responsibility. Chilchuck is different, although he is similar. He makes sure that they are safe and criticize their bad behavior, but he respects their privacy and freedom. He criticize Laios, but for the majority, he lets Laios leads. Because unlike Senshi, he actually has kids, he has 3 adult kids. He expects better and for them to behave up to his expectations, as proper adults.
The relationship between Chilchuck and Laios is interesting. Chilchuck knows Laios' objective and he knows he can't stop it. But he also knows that Laios can be reckless and unconventional. However, he also knows Laios can be experimental and creative, but this too can blow up on his face. So to make sure that everyone (including Laios) do not explode, he has to be there. But he knows it has to be Laios to hold the torch and lead it himself, Chilchuck just has to guide and help him sometimes. Also I think Chil is a tsundere and actually likes Laios.
Chilchuck Tims has a pride bigger than himself. He'll stick by you because he likes you even if he won't say it. There are many times where his dad like behavior comes to play, particular with criticizing Laios and respecting Izutsumi. But he is ultimately someone that will make sure everyone is safe and sound.

Ok I'm trying again. I've gotten over the dungeon master pun so I'm gonna say what I actually meant to.
Anime onlys don't look.
So the thing about the dungeon masters is, I know we saw dungeon masters of different races in the epilogue, but I think Rui-sensei was trying to make a point in having three of the four dungeon masters we know best being elves, and the one to actually defeat the demon being a human.
Elves are the longest lived species and they have a habit of treating everyone else as children or pets. They also have the greatest grasp on magic. And it's explicitly said that the elves are the ones who hide the true nature of dungeons and demons from the other races, because they think the other races can't handle it. But it is Marcille, Thistle, and Mithrun who fall to the demon's tricks. Even though the elves think of themselves as above the other races, these three fall to the demon. You could argue that they didn't realize that the demon was dangerous, and it's true, they didn't know. But I'm talking from a meta-perspective--why was it that it's the *elves* who fall for the demon? Because the elves have always been prideful. They think they know better than any other race.
And then we have Laois. And he too falls to the demon. First, I love that because throughout the story, we've had this dichotomy of "Laois loves monsters" and "Laois wants to protect the people he loves". And they have always been treated as mutually exclusive--Laois can't indulge in his monster love without hurting his friends. But then, we see that once his friends give his monster obsession a chance, they can find things they like about it too. Marcille is still creeped out when she thinks too hard about where the food comes from, but she's willing to eat the finished product (which, lbr, is most modern peoples reactions to food). Chilchuck started thinking Senshi and Laois were crazy, but by the end of it, he was ok with it. Even Izutsumi comes around.
And then, Laois gets his wish. To become his super cool original monster oc donut steal. And everyone is prepared for the worst. Everyone thinks this is Laois' betrayal--he couldn't hold back against his monster obsession and thus he will kill all the humans.
Only, he doesn't. It is by becoming this monster that he gains his power to defeat the winged lion. It is his love of monsters and his want to be one that creates his ability to protect the ones he loves. Even though they still don't fully understand him, even though the lion offered him what he always wanted--he used his love of monsters for his friends and family. And really.... That's what he's always been doing. No one else saw it at first, but he has always been using his obsession to help the people he loves. And even at the very end, he did the same.
And anyway, I think that's an important reason why the elves kept falling to the demon. The elves are magical and long lived and wise, but from what we see, they're.... Lonely. They have their strict hierarchy and their stuffy rules with each other, and with other races, they take on the role of sole caretaker to these little things who can't possibly understand the "real world." Even Marcille falls to this. But Laois, who has always been on the outside, never stopped trying to empathize with others. He calls Chilchuck "Chil" (something extremely personal to halflings); he doesn't hold a grudge when Namari leaves the group after Falin dies; hell, even though it didn't end well, his insistence on being friendly with Toshiro was probably him trying to avoid doing to Toshiro what others have always done to him. He adores Senshi and Izutsumi. His succubus is Marcille smiling. He isn't lonely anymore.
And the elves who become dungeon masters, don't seem to have that. Mithrun felt alone due to his lover and brother. Marcille and Thistle both felt like they had to protect their shorter lived family. But Laois didn't feel that isolation. Well, he did in his village. But when meeting with his friends and forming their little party, he realized he wasn't alone anymore. And that became more important than even being a monster.

which dungeon meshi character do you think would be most likely to do drag and what kind of drag do u think they would fw the most. i think senshi would love going to drag shows and tipping a generally ludicrous amount of money
This is the only ask in the worlddd to me.
I'm can't imagine most of the core party doing Drag themselves but the one's that come to mind immediately would be Fleki & Lycion.
Fleki's just bursting with personality, has the kind of confidence and banter that you want for a Drag artist. The little fashion explorations Ryoko Kui did too are soooooooo right for this. I think she'd 100% be drawn to the glamor and camp and stupidity drag has to offer. Probably play around between king and queen aesthetics. I also think she'd be so squarely be a baby queen tripping over her own heels but it's part of the fun and humor of it all.
Tumblr media
Lycion is here bc he's besties with Fleki and also because his whole Everything of wanting to escape into being beast to alleviate his discomfort with his body and identity. Which idk I could talk about for ages, it's like Laois and Falin, another character who I have never seen before in media who speaks so deeply to myself as a person. Lycion is absolutelyyyyy doing monster drag it's not even a question. Like if we're talking about this in a modern setting then he's absolutely using some kind of wolfman drag persona as a way to alleviate his distress with himself. I think he'd be aiming for as inhuman as possible. I think he'd get a huge thrill out of performing it and it'd be an easy 1 to 1 with him feeling validated in fight rings as a beast. I think he'd also be able to beat his face so right if he was just dressing up nice, I know him and Fleki r doing makeup looks together.
Last character is Laois but also not quite. Like with any other modern day headcannon people have for him like fursuiting, being trans, being otherkin ect even if on paper these would absolutely speak to him I just don't think he'd ever come to those conclusions himself. I think that kind of repression and isolation are really crucial to how he views the world and I think he's more likely to be formulating his own ideas rather than fitting into any kind of community already. I'm putting him here for similar reasons to Lycion, since they're both characters who want to become beasts. Lycion though feels like an out twink with gay friends, who knows who he is and what brings him joy and I don't think Laois is quite there yet as a person.
UM thinking abt it now he'd be more likely be a creature suit actor. Drag monsters still are more symbolic / character focused, and with creature suits I think he'd be really abnormal talking about how he's bonded with the silicon. You know he'd be asking a thousand questions abt the designs biology. You know he'd ask about its diet so he can go eat like that too to get in character.
Other than that I think the main crew would show up to drag shows and have a good time. I'm kind of obsessed with the joke of Marcille being a bit of a prude / not knowing what a butch is so I think her going to a drag bar with Falin would be really really really funny. You know namari is a local, this might be out of left field but I could also see Chilchuck being around a drag bar a lot as some old queen (twink) manager who's catty about baby queens or ppls bar etiquette.
Kabru is there because he is gay. I think if Kabru saw Laois in his local drag bar he would burst a blood vessel and talk shit about how some people just shouldn't come to shows because they're not actually gay and how it's ruining his night and he stole his seat so now he has to stand or he's blocking his view LMAO. Senshi would absolutely be buying the queens drinks bc he wants them to stay hydrated.
I also think the winged lion would do drag, is that anything. I think the winged lion is a pageant glamour queen.

Marchil crumbs part 5
Part 1 - Part 2 - part 3 - part 4 - part 6 - part 7
The anime has come and since I have my shipping goggles on I am going to notice so much. This part will be less spoilery for anime onlys (tho if you want to see me talk about why I ship them and why they’re complementary this is not a good part to start with haha). Edit: After completing this part I can confirm it’s fully anime-onlys friendly and spoiler-free! For manga veterans though there are still some fun tidbits to be found, some recontextualisations and new extra content.
Holy shit guys they’re mirroring each other in the mural and reaching out to each other AND looking towards each other?!!!! Their pose is so striking and like perfectly align?! Which means it was so intentional and the staff wanted to highlight them (for an aesthetic and/or narrative purpose I’m sure but it happened)! I will never let this go we won so fucking hard let’s goooooo we are so back
Tumblr media
Character foils!! Dynamic duo!!
Soulmates!!
In the opening at 1:16 he looks at her to see if she’s really going to it as the most critical of monster food & muster up courage to dig into it himself lmao… "Marcille doesn’t look too grossed out, she’s picky so this food must be fine then" Aka treating her as a poison taster/good cuisine judge lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doodle from the animation director (source). I should translate it but I’m procrastinating on it so uh director’s brotp? Anyways they hanging out look at them :]
Tumblr media
Laios is thinking to himself there (he’s the one saying the subs), and in the meantime Marcille and Chilchuck talk, likely figuring out the money situation. Strategizing duo back at it again not wasting a second
Tumblr media
In the beginning of ep 1, when Marcille is rambling about where they could go to get food and what to grab, Chilchuck listens with a big smile & even closes his eyes as they walk. The implication is that he’s thinking about food, but man the scene hits different now that it’s voiced and I remember that indeed Chilchuck is closing his eyes to her voice and enjoying hearing her talk and ramble. I may be too far gone into the marchil pit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like already they’ve come far from when Chilchuck dreaded being alone with Shuro and Marcille, waiting for the Toudens and Namari to arrive.
Ok this might actually be smth I’m gonna complain about but I feel like blushes have been drawn too vividly so far. Why does Chilchuck look like he’s confessing when he tells her she’s not a burden and he didn’t mean to make her feel that way. It almost comes across as "Woah she cares what I think?" 💀 The banter ensuing is of course also great
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ep 2 was an episode centered on them both that had the "Magic/Traps are my domain, don’t interfere!" parallel… And now with ep 3 we’re back to them being haters together. That’s her emotional support man
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In ep 4, it doesn’t show well with a screenshot but when Senshi talks about his unmanned vegetable stand with a treasure chest, while in the manga Marcille and Chilchuck both think the same thing, "That’s why that treasure chest akways had money in it…", but in the anime instead they literally finish each other’s thought. Talk about being on the same wavelength.
Ep 5 is a marchil goldmine actually, it showcases perfectly how much of a package deal they are lol. Always sticking close to each other. Glancing at each other during meals… They literally nod at each other before they try a bite to steel themselves. They exchange a serious thoughtful glance when Laios talks about Falin truly being gone atm. They argue a bit but they go right back to sitting right next to each other after the meal <3 My god I can’t deal with them they are so…… "Hate this bitch, not my friend" 3 secs later "Heyy bestie!!" Also he’s worried he brought her mood down after mentioning Falin. Made a post about ep 5 collecting even more screenshots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 6 my hero my beloved… Again I made a post about the ep collecting all my screenshots here, and even a clip! But this IS the marchil crumbs masterpost thus I must collect the major ones here as well. First of all, fun staff drawings for the first screening!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I already posted a screenshot from the trailer of when Chil had his head on his knees sitting next to her, but after seeing episode 5 I think it’s a fun and interesting trend to notice that they sit next to each other way unnecessarily close wow. They continue to banter a ton, she continues to be very casual with touch, and they’re really cute! I love just how much Marcille blushed damn- It’s really cute too when you remember with the bicorn chapter that Chilchuck teases Marcille BECAUSE he enjoys getting a rise out of her, flustering her and seeing her reactions. I support the teasing -> laughing because her reaction is over the top all-Chilchuck economy. Also she apologizes for having let him go alone and be gone for so long by helping him with sewing his cowl… Cuties
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She looked so happy when he opened up about his age!… And then seemed… Disappointed? When he "truly was just a kid". "So you really are a kid! How boring…" This implies that her intent was to tease him for funsies… Ok lads we reached 30 pics see you next post, I’m gonna cover the "wake up clumsy head" manga-anime differences and we’re gonna go back to our usual spoilers yummy schedule.
Here’s Marcille cosplaying as a succubus in the newest Daydream Hour… She may not be a half-foot or have deep-set eyes but let’s be real I think he’d explode
Tumblr media
part 6 here!!

We want to know your Farcille Half-Foot Incident Ideas please
OK SO THE FARCILLE HALF FOOT INCIDENT THAT LIVES IN MY BRAIN. nobody look at me i'm really tender about my farcille headcanons
Spoilers for like ch22 til 50ish and for anime onlys
SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).
And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and
She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good
And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. (Chil could share a little lore about them traditionally being docked at adolescence to become an adult to avoid stigma of being considered basically beast men etc [and falin would be like ooooh shit that’s why he’s so weird about eating demihumans huh bcuz some ppl consider half-foots basically as that.] but also that more modern half-foots are eschewing the tradition... He let his kids pick what they wanted to do, and Fler wanted hers docked but Mei and Puck chose to keep them.)
And anyway overwhelmed Marcille just wants Falin to take care of her so Falin carries her away in her big strong chimera tallman arms and keeps brushing her whiskers and well. They simply get so curious about each others’ bodies (no chance to explore really with the pace of the dungeon and staying ahead of Others), that they simply must bang it out. Falin can smell her. Btw. Biting with the fangs. Btwwww
Chil also had an experience of chimera laios treating him oh so gently and staring at him w the same usual dopey laios look before wreaking havoc on everyone else. Btw. And it keeps him up at night. If u even care

(p.s. meijack you are in SO much unserious trouble....)
both direct comments and tumblr asks are good for me, it's serotonin right to my veins either way :3 there's a thread in my chilaios server where people also just liveblog their thoughts at me and i'm very hinged about the praise (<- lying)
honestly i love when people think of chilchuck in their own culture... i've seen some friends talk about latino chilchuck, it's so fun. and it's not like we have a tolkien-esque dictionary of half-foot so imagining it in your own language makes sense to me!!
AND YEAH... HONESTLY... you have picked up on something there that i did intentionally, LMAO. so while it's not the vibe chilchuck intended, it's the one that's going to get him in trouble later <3 puckpatti may be willing to gloss over all of this in the name of her dad being happy, but there are others who may take it as something to be concerned about... :3c
i've started chapter 7, and your ask made me very happy so how about i share the beginning with you:
The night before the trip, Laios invites Chilchuck out to Senshi’s, and he finds himself agreeing far more readily than he did the first time. What’s more, everyone can make it; it’s nice to see Falin again, but he also gets to see Marcille when she’s not tired and overworked.
He’s not actually sure if that’s a good thing, in the end.
She hugs Laios when he and Chilchuck arrive (not as tightly as Falin does, but still with a certain degree of overt fondness), then sits herself down and immediately launches into the friendliest interrogation Chilchuck has ever found himself subject to. He can barely half-answer her before she’s launched into another question; about where he’s from, about what he does, about how Laios has been treating him… She asks about his family, too, but it’s Laios who gently deflects her when Chilchuck stalls out about it.
“He’s kind of a private person,” Laios laughs, raising a glass of soda to his lips. “Let him actually get to know you first, Marcille. Then he’ll tell you himself.”
Chilchuck doesn’t want to tell anyone anything about his life without prompting, but he thinks Laios knows that; the easy escape from the line of questioning is appreciated, either way.
“I hope you stick around long enough for that to happen!” Marcille enthuses. “You seem like a really interesting person, Chilchuck. And clearly you’ve got Laios under control.”
Chilchuck laughs at that, and he’s not the only one; Falin and Namari laugh too (and even Shuro smiles a little). A glance Laios's way reveals he’s flustered, but similarly amused. “He’s not hard to direct,” Chilchuck muses over the rim of his water glass. “He just needs to be told exactly what to do.”
He pretends he doesn’t notice the look Falin gives her brother.

This episode of the anime made me realize something about Namari and her relationship with Tansu and his party. Before now I haven't been able to quite pin down how and why they start treating her more like family and less like a disposable bodyguard. But the anime conveys the shift so well!!
So, at the start of the episode, Tansu pulls Namari in the way of the undine's attack to protect himself. He's perfectly happy to let her die to save himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kiki and Kaka both shout for him, but no one expresses a lot of care for what happens to Namari. This isn't remarkable to any of them. They do bring her back to the camp, of course, and Tansu resurrects her... at which point she starts yelling at him about how this is, in fact, a common thing.
Tumblr media
Throughout the rest of the episode, there is a clear contrast in how the Tansu family all treats each other versus how they treat Namari. Tansu or Kiki being in danger is concerning. Namari getting hurt or killed is just part of the job. She is a meat shield, a tool they paid for and are using as part of this expedition. They take care of her, but they care about each other.
And though it's not exactly explicitly stated, Chilchuck's speech about reputation makes it clear why - they probably assume, because of her reputation, that this is how Namari views things, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From their perspective, Namari signed up to die a lot and get paid a lot. She is only there for the money, but acts upset when they don't treat her as a proper member of the party (and family). From their perspective, flawed as it is, she is asking for more respect than she will return.
That's not how Namari actually feels, though, and at the episode she tells Tansu as much:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is what changes things between them! Tansu finally sees her as more than a tool. For the first time, the party bonds with Namari as a person.
It's very fitting that this comes right after Namari realizes the value of Senshi's pot, too.
Tumblr media
Just like the adamantine shield can be used for more than just fighting, Namari is more than just a tool and shield herself.
So they all share a meal, and things are different between them now. Tansu and his family will go on to treat Namari with more respect in the future, and they will begin to forge actual bonds. As complex as the layers of distrust, reputation, depersonalization and assumption are... In many ways it's as simple as that. How very like Dungeon Meshi. I'm so glad the anime made this finally click for me.

For the controversial ship asks: 👅💣💗💔
👅 Ship that you find most sexy: Unfortunately, at the moment, it’s ships that include my ocs. o3o Especially Liam. That desperate to please himbo can top and bottom with a crazy amount of enthusiasm. That’s not very controversial though. Hm.
Boyd Mosche/Ned Chicane from The Adventure Zone: Amnesty. Controversial because they’re toxic exes with a lot of drama and crimes behind them. Quickly followed by Elias Bouchard/Peter Lukas from The Magnus Archives, with similar divorced energy.
💣 Ship that pisses you off: ‘pisses me off’ is a strong term — most things I don’t ship I am simply neutral about. but alright, I’ll share publicly what I usually only say to friends in private: Dave/Karkat from Homestuck. I simply think their entire characters (mostly Karkat) were filed down to nothing but their relationship with each other. Their relationships with other characters started to feel thin. They felt at the same time codependent and like leftovers who were the last possible option for each other. I haven’t read Homestuck in ages, and I stopped reading it after the epilogue (I read Meat and skimmed Candy). I hear they’re officially canon now and maybe the writing got better, but as someone who likes both of those characters a lot I simply don’t like their ship. At least in Dave’s case I heard he and Dirk get some quality moments? That’s great!
edit: in fact, in Meat it seems to confirm my position further because it wasn’t until Karkat and Dave ‘broke up’ that Karkat really blossomed into a revolutionary leader independent in his own right. Which was my favorite part of the epilogues, though I still don’t know if I accept Meat and Candy as canon, really.
💓 Ship that you didn’t expect to ship but now do: Marcille/Laios from Dungeon Meshi. When I finished reading Dungeon Meshi the first time, the only ships I really saw any foundations for were Kiki/Namari and maybe Chilchuck/Senshi (though their lives really ended up pulling themselves in opposite directions). I’m a multi-shipper, though, and when someone brought up the possibility of Marcille and Laios, the second time I read the comic through I really saw what they meant. I had always liked their dynamic, but now I could see the deep respect, protectiveness, and compassion they came to feel for each other. They’re both my favorite characters in the story, they both deserve nice things, and they’re pretty perfect together.
💔 Ship that makes you sad: Oh, so many. I can’t even think of a controversial one. The first one coming to mind right now is D/Rogier from Elden Ring. It’s sad but poetic when at first you bond over your loneliness and finding someone who shares your interests, but slowly you find that your solutions to a problem are so fundamentally different from each other that you can’t reconcile that with how much you care for each other. D’s comments about Rogier in the Roundtable Hold reek of bitterness, but Rogier seems to still hold a saddened respect for D’s skill. Add in Fia’s involvement and how her companionship likely drove even more of a wedge between Rogier and D and you got the mixings of a perfect tragically doomed romance. Not to mention all three of them dying (without reconciling) based on your actions during the game.
Send me a controversial shipping ask!

Dungeon meshi live-blogging ep 10 & 11
(Live-blogged both in Portuguese and in English. I did this before too but used my native language more than usual lol. Also thsi got long because I DIDNT forget to liveblog episodes this time!!!)
Ep10
Oh they’re fucked
Chilchuck the goat
Marcille, I get it. I would be grossed out by that shit too. But THIS TIME, it truly is the only thing we can do. Wear the bloody frog skin and get that shit all over your body even if it’s gross. I’m hugging you for emotional support
Esses mano são muito estúpido /pos nem fudendo que a Marcille vai ser convencida por vaidade de moda quando é a porra de uma pele de sapo que vocês acabaram de descascar. Aiai tadinha kkkk
A CARA DE ÓDIO DELA MANO LMAOOO
Por favor diz que eles vão passar o episódio inteiro com essas roupa silly de sapo
“Parece que o sangue do sapo gigante congelou e grudou nas minhas roupas” NAOOOOOOO mano coitada da Marcille… her life is just L after L after L after L
“We’re gonna fight the dragon like this?! How am I going to reunite with Falin now?!” Girl I know you’re gay and all but Falin will probably be unconscious the entire time and, even if she wakes up, she’ll probably be disoriented as shit. I don’t think she will notice or care about you looking like a furry and smelling like corpses <3
THEY CAN GO HOME BY PAINTINGS???? SO COOL!!!! Ah e oi Namari, queria MUITO que você voltasse pro time Laios. Please at least get an union eventually 🙏
Ah agente vai fazer world building da ilha???? Foda.
“Anões, hein? Abominável.” 🚨🚨FANTASY RACISM ALERT 🚨🚨 FANTASY RACISM ALERT 🚨🚨 (godamnit not my pet peeve. I don’t trust writers with this type of thing lmao so hopefully it isn’t very relevant)
We really gonna have fantasy racism be a plot point aren’t we. Please writers do this properly
Namari please be a relevant character 🙏 ah e aleluia esses gêmeos vão ser desenvolvidos parece né
Sou que nem esses gêmeos não sei que porra é incumbência não. Sou burra gente nunca foi tão boa em gramática
Mas a irmã do Laios tem um loiro meio escuro, não um castanho claro…? Deve ser um erro de tradução então… estranho
It’s what I thought. I was sure a big part of the reason Namari left is because she never had any hope of Falin surviving in the first place, so, to her, sticking around to save her was pointless. I wonder how she’ll feel once she realizes it wasn’t
Gente, vocês ACABARAM de comer. Eu entendo que não podem lutar o dragão com fome senão vocês vão se fuder de novo, mas VCS TÃO TÃO PERTO….
Ngl I thought this place would be way more wrecked it’s in a surprisingly good state all things considered.
Marcille :(
Eu ia chamar o Chilchuck de covarde arrombado mas pelo menos ele avisou múltiplas vezes que não dava pra contar com ele no combate né.
Oh the dragon is THAT high? It is so truly jover— okay sorry English isn’t my first language it took me a stupid amount of time to realize im making it sound like the dragon smokes weed. By high I meant tall. (Although this show is so silly I wouldn’t be surprised by weed-smoking dragon)
Thx Chilchuck for offering your help, I knew you were just acting tsundere <3 also I get that he’s a half-foot species or whatever but did they HAVE to make him look twelve. I keep forgetting he’s a middle aged man in his species.
“Deveríamos ter pedido pra Namari vir” Senshi, A MARCILLE PEDIU. Foi vocês (Laios e eu acho que o Chilchuck) que impediram ela.
…Wait if Chilchuck is so willing to go for wine as soon as he sees it, how did they not figure out he’s an adult before? Did they just avoid any and all places with beverage so that, since they thought he was a kid, he wouldn’t feel left out by not being able to drink? If so, cute. Alternatively Chilchuck is only comfortable enough to get drunk with them NOW since they bonded more, which is also sweet.
Marcille finally got a W (doesn’t have to eat monsters today)— “but there’s still the red dragon” Laios don’t ruin the moment.
Awww Senshi looks so cute in this show when he’s being complimented
Lmao Laios complimenting everyone on their skills that helped them get here so far, and then with Marcille it’s just. “Girl, I’m SO sorry you had to go through this trip, you suffered the most L’s out of all of us.”
DRAGON FIGHT! DRAGON FIGHT!!! I heard that episode 11 has angst so, unlike how I’ve been doing with this one, I’ll have to wait until I get home </3 I can’t risk missing out on some vital parts of the experience or god forbid crying in class. It hurts to wait but it’s necessary. Ough.
Ep 11
Okay fuck it we been having a free class might as well START. I’m bored leave me alone.
Oh fuck it didn’t even start with the opening it’s so jover
Marcille don’t second guess yourself it’s gonna make me more nervous because that’s basic foreshadowing shit will go wrong
Ngl I know this is an anime but crumbling buildings are no joke. Even if the party doesn’t get hurt what if it crushes the dragon’s stomach and, therefore, Falin?
Okay NOW the opening starts. I still find it funny the one having a monologue like “hang on, Falin!” right before the battle is Marcille and not Falin’s fucking brother.
Guys. Guys (aside of Laios ig) wdym u didn’t expect it to be this fast it’s huge af. Please tell me you’re not far from the marked place. Even if the terrain slows him down he’s still a huge ass dragon
I was about to say, if Namari got her hands sorta burnt by heating up the Urine, these guys gonna come back with their hands completely numb and red from FUCKING DRAGON FIRE!!!!
GET UR SHIT BACK DONT FUCKING — oh thank god Senshi
Oh god they had to change routes it’s so jover
These guys HAVE to be hit by at least part of the debris there’s no way— oh fuck the dragon ain’t even phased it’s so jover— CHILCHUCK GOT HIT IN THE HEAD BY DEBRI. I TOLD YOU ALL
:0 thank you Laios, the goat at improv. The guy wants to reache/ cut its inverted scale
SWORD WHY.
Ohhhh Chilchuck found out about the sword now. His face looks haunted man.
(In the car rn so I can turn up the sound a little bit finally🙏) CHILCHUCK MAKING UP INSULTS SO HE CAN INSULT LAIOS AS MUCH AS HE POSSIBLY CAN
Senshi hiding the trump card from us until the last minute… you could have told them after Namari parted ways— oh fuck the blade is too short it’s jover
Senshi gonna pull the self-sacrifice shit aur Naur
FUCK. Also Chilchuck the self-proclaimed “I only been doing this for the bag I’ll leave y’all once the combat starts” running towards the dragon’s paw to try to save Senshi… we been knew— oh shit the blade
YOOO Chilchuck hit it in the eye!!! Mf should never call himself useless in combat again.
Senshi the goat. Also Chilchuck got hit by debris in the head AGAIN (+ probably got crushed along with Senshi)
No matter what happens Marcille needs to get through this because I’m pretty sure she the only mf in this party who can revive ppl.
Parece que eu to assistindo OSNF do jeito que todo mundo quer se sacrificar pelo time kkkkkk
OOF. HIS FUCKIJG LEG. There may be a spell for revival due to the unique nature of the dungeon but is there one for losing limbs???
Laios let’s go 🙏 officially redeemed from the fuck up of ep 1
THIS IS ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE EPUSODE????? I was so sure it’d end in that cliffhanger. Ngl I’d be traumatized by this if I didn’t know reviving is possible.
Falin & Laios flashback pog. She looks so cute as a kid, too.
(Can finally hear sound normally yippee!!!) these quick cuts to black in the flashback making me nervous
Ouvindo o fantasma dizer dnv e dnv “por favor, tire-o, socorro” 100% é o motivo da Falin ter tanta empatia pelos fantasma né?
Ngl Olman is a familiar ass name idk why . Whoever named him should feels sorry for themselves tho ugly as hell name
We’re going more into Falin’s perspective in this flashback which is neat because she’s been absent the entire anime so far so we only know what others feel about her
Oh fuck D:
Senshi afraid of revival magi. So r eda Al for this
Oh she CAN reattach the leg pog. Ngl if I were her I’d focus on finding Falin FIRST so she would have someone else to help revive everyone bc I feel like that takes a lot of magic
There’s NO way this tiny ass knife can withstand cutting so much idc if it’s from op metal no mames
Part of me is wondering if we’re gonna see Falin totally dismembered and half-digested. Another part of me says this show has been mostly lighthearted so they wouldn’t go so far. Yet ANOTHER part of me says they showed us Laios getting his leg cut off so as long as Falin survives it’d be fine
Godamn this stomach looks like a balloon.
The stomach empty… I am 100% sure Falin escaped somehow due to the yuri posts I saw before watching this show but also if she dies like this… it’s possible
EWEWEW THE HELL IS THAT.
Ohhhh is she gonna come back wrong
…okay I’m just saying. I called it with her being digested.

Dungeon Meshi Quick Reacts (CHA 19: Tentacles)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re all adorable, but Marcille, WHY are you in capris and sandals in a dungeon gurl please I’m begging you
Tumblr media
Last chapter, Laios had to have a lie-down. This chapter, it’s Marcille’s turn.
Tumblr media
Passive Perception - Orym vs. Chilchuck. FIGHT
Tumblr media
A much more positive outcome than I was expecting, to be honest.
Tumblr media
hold up. You’re telling me all those chapters happened within the span of A WEEK
dungeon time dilation real
Tumblr media
lmao. ‘Someone’s paying me for this, idk who’ Big Grad Student energy
Tumblr media
Knockoff Vax and Vex, got it.
Tumblr media
Not everyone is an head over heels for Falin as you are, I guess. They’re wrong, of course, but I get it.
Tumblr media
damn bruh, that’s cold
Tumblr media
And despite all of that, Laios still tries to warn them. We don’t deserve him.
Tumblr media
I give them three days.
Tumblr media
I was too generous.
Tumblr media
HOLY SHIRTBALLS.
Tumblr media
THEY HAD A KID WITH THEM? WHO BRINGS A TODDLER DUNGENEERING
Tumblr media
Damn, these guys must be loaded.
Tumblr media
How much would YOU accept for someone to just use you as a meat-shield repeatedly?
Tumblr media
Right, they don’t come back if it’s outside the dungeon.................... but the spirits in the dungeon can’t escape.
Just like the spirits trapped in Marcille’s little experiment jar. They remain there.... because of the barrier..............
Tumblr media
..................................... 👁👁
Tumblr media
That seems good and healthy.
Tumblr media
It’s creating a weird feedback loop of an ecosystem, basically. If that’s really the case, I’m not surprised things are going sideways.
Tumblr media
........he has a very punchable face, this old man.
Tumblr media
.......oooooh gurl u don’t know even the half of it.
Tumblr media
Horrible, ominous, creepy. 10/10
the monster-infested sword continues to be an excellent character.
Tumblr media
Really enjoying the implication that Laios was this capable even BEFORE he got Sword-Friend that is now Monster-Detector-Automatic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DOLLAR STORE VEX!! NOT YOU TOO!!
Tumblr media
Ah yes. The old Barbarian reach problem.
Tumblr media
you just know when Laios starts saying shit like this you’re in for a treat
Tumblr media
SENSHI WITHOUT HELMET??? REAL SHIT????? I thought it was like. Stuck on his head eternally.
Tumblr media
He trusts you. Don’t let the boy down!
Tumblr media
I kinda love Senshi without the helmet, guys. This is a problem.
Tumblr media
I mean, it looks like you’re capable of it! :D
Tumblr media
OH NOOOO NOT HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE
Tumblr media
my dude. buddy. pal. can you SEE?
And is this really the time?!
Tumblr media
........b.............banana............
Tumblr media
Chilchuck, from across the room to Namari:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vinegar makes me retch so this is the first time I am not actually enticed by a food but... why does it taste different to all of them?
Tumblr media
This is what you’re missing out on, Namari. Aren’t you jealous?
Tumblr media
The risk you took was calculated..........but man are you bad at math.
Tumblr media
.........idk man, it sounds to me like Laios and his quick thinking and ability to sacrifice himself to be a pin cushion was what really did you both good here, but what do I know?
