There has been many calendars in the different parts of world. Europe had been using Julian Calendar for more than 1500 years and they had no idea of precision. In 1582, they adopted the reforms of Gregory and thus they gave whole world Gregorian calendar. These calendars are purely solar calendar and operate on the basis of relative movement of sun with respect of earth. India on the other hand had lunisolar calender being used from thousands of year ago since antiquity. We considered movement of moon so we observe Adhikmasa or an extra month every 2-3 years. Indian Calendar system is so perfectly designed that our crop festival coincide with crop seasons perfectly every year. We have six seasons in our calendar marking about 2 months per season. Our calendar takes account of movement of not only sun and moon but other planets and Nakshatra and zodiac signs as well. There are various reference points from which we count our years but everyone of them use exact same calendar. It is also known as Panchang in our language. These reference points are Vikram Samvat, Shalivahan Shak Samvat and Mahabharata Samvat. #spinayarnindia #india #calendars #culture #heritage #lunar #solar https://www.instagram.com/p/CL6LY2RBMTT/?igshid=9u6uojbccqqi
