Ancient Love Poetry & The Last Immortal - connection post

Warning: Contains spoilers for the first series so skip post if you haven't watched it and do not want to be spoiled.

Ancient Love Poetry - Origin of Yuan Qi

Once upon a time, there were three realms - god realm, immortal realm and demon realm (no human realm yet).

In the god realm, the most respected are the four true gods - born from heaven and earth and are responsible for the peace of the three realms. Two of those true gods are Bai Jue (the god of fire) and Shanggu (the goddess of chaos). But destiny became their enemy when Shanggu had to make the sacrifice to save the world from the Tribulation of Chaos.

The god realm was destroyed and the human realm eventually came to be.

Broken hearted, Bai Jue spent tens of thousands of years collecting what was eft of Shanggu's soul. Eventually, Shanggu was born as Houchi, a goddess disrespected for her weak power (who unknowingly possesses Shanggu's sealed power and memory inside of her).

Now this part is the spoiler. Even if Shanggu is alive as Houchi, the Tribulation of Chaos is still meant to come to pass. Bai Jue, unwilling to see Shanggu die again, painfully endured dividing his original being into two for the purpose of possessing the power of chaos which would let him suffer the Tribulation of Chaos in replacement for Shanggu. One split created Bo Xuan who watched Houchi grow up, staying by her side, guiding and protecting her before disappearing one day. The second split is Qing Mu who fell in love unconditionally and eventually became Houchi's husband.

Qing Mu and Houchi's marriage and union is what led to Houchi's pregnancy. They fought for love even if they knew that their time together was limited. They had both long learned that they possess the true god's spirit inside them, and when the spirit awakens, they would disappear.

It happened that Qing Mu disappeared first, which led to Bai Jue's return. This Bai Jue acted that Qing Mu is no longer a part of him, deliberately hiding his love from Houchi and Yuan Qi. With enemies all around and with his power still weak, he pretended to abandon them, even going as far as to remarry just to give Houchi a push to forget him.

Secretly, he disguises himself to spend time with Yuan Qi, using the form of Feng Ran (Houchi's friend). He also secretly comes to watch over Houchi/Shanggu and Yuan Qi as they sleep. So Yuan Qi had been spending time with him without knowing it's his father who was with him.

All this is because Bai Jue had always intended to sacrifice himself in the Tribulation of Chaos and he knew there was no going back. He did not want Shanggu to experience the thousands of years of pain he had endured for losing his beloved.

So this cute kiddo is Yuan Qi from Ancient Love Poetry. Qi in his name means 'abandonment', a name given by his mother (Houchi who had no memory of Shanggu).

Yuan Qi's character is playful, smart, curious, bold, daring and cunning enough to be manipulative. But he also learns easily and is innocent with a pure heart. He likes to know how magic weapons came to be and likes disassembling them to study how they are built. He looks like his father but has his mother's temper. He has a strong sense of doing what is right, and would bravely apologize and make amends if he knows he's in the wrong. He also doesn't like it when the people around him are sad, so he tries to cheer them up.

He is the only child of true gods, and is considered the other true gods' nephew. He possesses the power of chaos (same as his mother). He is also very much spoiled. 😂💙

Before he sacrificed himself in the Tribulation of Chaos, Bai Jue finally visited Yuan Qi as himself. Yuan Qi was mad at him for his abandonment but he eventually gave in. They did the things that Yuan Qi loves (like spending time in the human realm, eating good food, gambling, playing with toys, etc). It surprised Yuan Qi how his father knows what he likes and perhaps (just maybe), he also realized then that the Feng Ran who did all those things with him was actually his father in disguise.

Bai Jue also tried to explain to Yuan Qi that death is something that comes to everyone. It is not something horrible, even if it's your own death or the death of someone you love. It's just like flowers blooming and drying. It hurts a lot at first, but the pain lessens with time. He told Yuan Qi that to sacrifice oneself for the ones one loves and for the world is a good thing. Yuan Qi listened to these but he didn't really understand it completely.

When Shanggu learned Bai Jue's true intentions and sacrifice, he was already dead. Shanggu knelt in front of the ancestral god for 500 yrs to plead for Bai Jue's return. At that time, they knew that a new god of fire is to be born and she is desperate to have it be Bai Jue. She was kneeling even when Yuan Qi bid her goodbye because it's been decided that he'd be taken as a disciple in Daze Mountain.

This kid Yuan Qi grew up to be this cute guy from The Last Immortal. They hid his true origin and gave him the name Gu Jin.

The willful spoiled kid grew up to be a righteous but still willful young man. Still innocent and forgiving. Still with a strong moral compass. Still brave and honorable enough to apologize and make up for his wrongdoings. Still caring for all beings in all realms and treats them equally. Still wishes his father had not left them. Kinder, and braver and even more honorable and just. He became exactly the guy that a water divine beast named A Yin would grow to love.

There is a lot more I want to say. But let's skip it for now.

But I made this post as I couldn't help it. Looking back on Ancient Love Poetry and having read Shen Yin, I finally have a deeper understanding of Yuan Qi and his choices.

In lots of ways, he truly resembles his father.

thinking about how yuan qi took the same steps as his father but at least, at the end, he did not die like his father who died all alone. he died in the arms of his beloved and was seen by the people who cared and loved him. and then those same people came together to try to get him back. and those same people are what help nourish him.

I watched Ancient Love Poetry and the saddest part for me was pretty much in the first arc when Yuemi died. I liked her a lot and and then when Shanggu said the forest and hall should forever be Yuemi’s as the Goddess of Moon and Stars was the trigger for me to cry uncontrollably and all the shooting stars indicating her death 😭😭😭😭

High Contract Rates

This exhibition is fairly successful since many exhibitors received new orders on the first day, and the incessant orders were witnessed in the follow-up two days. The overall satisfaction of the exhibitor is rather high, and even large booths were preordered.

Many exhibitors told us that the ITCPE is an expert stage and they harvest fruitful contracts. They praised that it is an established exhibition; hence, they get lots of new orders, and they will continue to be the attending companies.

A good way how to make myself all emotional and sniffly? Re-watch the final ep of Ancient Love Poetry. Gosh, Bai Jue's sacrifice gets me every time. Sixty thousand years did he work towards a single goal: to bring Shanggu back to life and then to die in her stead. Like, wow, he didn't revive her with the expectation of spending eternity with her. He did it with the clear knowledge that he was going to take her place and die once she was reborn. Can you even imagine such devotion?

First, I just want to excuse because English is not my first language. So my question is what can you say about why Yuan Qi (Gu Jin) accidentally kills A Yin due to the reason that A Yin let the Fox Prince escape (although her reasoning is right) I think her just deciding to free Hong Yi even though there's really a Devil that controlled him, just felt disrespectful to the immortals who died but also risked her life who Hong Ri, Yuan Qi (Gu Jin), and Yan Shuang tried so hard to extend. Because as I watched and I saw a lot of reviews supporting to not forgive Yuan Qi for accidentally killing A Yin when they can clearly see the Point of View of Yuan Qi that he is also in pain. The one accused of the murder of those in Daze Mountain and the Heavenly Emperor is someone who he got close to at some point even though they don't get along much but they accompany each other in travelling in order to collect Feng Yin's scattered spiritual energy and extend A Yin's life. On the other hand, the immortals in Daze Mountain, A Yin and Yuan Qi (Gu jin) they are close to them and it makes it difficult to decide on sentencing the accused (Hong Yi) because they are close to him.

I just don't get all the hate to the character of Yuan Qi (Gu Jin) and why even other entity is opposed to him when he just followed through what is right. He even made changes to make the punishment to A Yin a bit lighter and they also shown the despair in his face after he realized that A Yin cannot take it. The pointers I got from Yuan Qi's parents Shanggu and Bai Jui that being a True God means they still need to follow through on what's right and not what they feel they should do, like taking note on how Shanggu and Bai Jue's relationship it's also chaotic. Being a True Gods/ddesses means Duty then Love.

hi anon! apologies for not getting to this sooner. have you watched the recent episodes? i'm not sure if that already answered your questions or not, but here's my take.

I think her just deciding to free Hong Yi even though there's really a Devil that controlled him, just felt disrespectful to the immortals who died but also risked her life who Hong Ri, Yuan Qi (Gu Jin), and Yan Shuang tried so hard to extend.

what's important to remember here is that the devils had already made hong yi their scapegoat. if he had gone through the trial/punishment, he would've died. there was a lack of time to prove everything so a yin had no choice. it would've been more disrespectful to the immortals if they had punished the wrong person and let the devils get away. also, don't forget! a yin and gu jin's senior brothers already knew that hong yi was not the one doing the murders! they already asked a yin to reveal the real truth and essentially help hong yi.

for your other point: we the audience saw that yong yi, gu jin, and yan shuang spent a lot of time and effort to help a yin, but a yin does not know. and i don't think her friends want her to know. as friends, they are willing to help each other, not because they expect gratefulness or gifts.

in true xianxia genre style, there are sacrifices made for each other without the other person knowing--which leads to unintentional consequences. that's kind of the whole point.

for example: gu jin, in trying to save a yin from death, gives his command seal to hua shu--who later uses it to deceives a yin, making a yin think that gu jin doesn't care about her. in trying to save a yin, gu jin indirectly harms her ! it's tragic.

i also personally don't understand all the hate for gu jin/yuan qi, but i can see why some people are frustrated, especially on the point of gu jin not being more honest/transparent and communicative with a yin. his whole personality in the beginning of the drama was that he was very straightforward and always tried to clear any confusion with a yin. but after he got his emotional threads back (and after he had that one talk from his aunt), he started to keep things from a yin and then tried to shoulder everything on his own. it felt jarring to see him act like this. if he had just talked to a yin and if they could've just worked through some of the obstacles together, then a yin wouldn't have been kept in the dark for so long and wouldn't have suffered so much.

though it's true that gu jin suffered physically for a yin, he was willing. it was his choice. but for a yin, she never had choices. she suffered from other people's actions and from being kept in the dark. this makes it very frustrating/sad to watch a yin who faced injustice over and over.

but personally, i think this is the tragedy of the entire show.

gu jin, forced to become True God yuan qi through the death of his entire sect, forced to take on responsibilities he never wanted, forced to do a job he was never trained for. (We have to remember that Bai Jue and Shanggue grew in the God Realm, with other Gods. Yuan Qi, on the other hand, was pretty much a child in the God Realm briefly before he was brought to the Immortals Realm). He's forced to focus on Duty before Love, but he's trying to have it all--and he's failing.

For a yin, we know that feng yin will get her justice later in the drama, but the tragedy of a yin's death is that she dies at her lowest of low: no home, seen as an accomplice or helper of the devils, her actions misunderstood, her loved one (gu jin) seemingly not trusting her. she dies believing she is unloved. she dies, wronged.

I think it's super tragic all around.

Biography of Kou Luo (ZS15)

[The old man of the Guanxi army. From the Wuchuan garrison, he followed his fellow garrison man Heba Yue west. He was offered the leadership after Yue's death, but declined, and then served under Yuwen Tai.]

Kou Luo was a native of Changping in Shanggu, for several generations his family had been generals and functionaries. His father Yanshou in the middle of Heping [460 – 465], as the son of a good family garrisoned Wuchuan. Following that his family was there. Luo was by nature clear and discerning, and did not get stuck on to minor issues. End of Zhengguang [520 – 525], since the traitors were rising up on the northern border, he led his home district and those close to him to flee the land for Bing and Si#. Following that he accompanied Erzhu Rong on his campaigns and chastisements.

When Heba Yue went on the western campaign, since Luo was from his home village, he therefore recruited him to accompany him in entering the Passes. They routed the Chishui Shu, and for his merits he was designated General of the Hard Core, Colonel of Garrison Cavalry, and Separate Commander, and ennobled Baron of Linyi county with an estate of 200 households. He again accompanied Yue to capture the traitor leader Yuchi Pusa at the Wei River, rout Houfuhou Yuanjin at the Hundred li Minute Streams, and seize Moqi Chounu at Changkeng.

Luo always put his strength into the battles, and every time had merit. He was promoted to Dragon-Prancing General and Chief Controller, and advanced in feudal rank to Count of Anxiang county. He amassed moves to General who Conquers the North and General of Guards. At Pingliang, they used Luo as Chief Controller of the Right.

When Houmochen Yue¤ had murdered Yue, he intended to combine their multitudes. At the time they had begun to mourn the supreme leader, and within the army there was trepidation and confusion. Luo was [ranked] in the middle of the various generals, [but] he was the most senior in age and habitually was trusted by the multitudes. He therefore gathered and assembled the generals and soldiers, his aspiration to seek vengeance. They joined together [?], and thereupon kept whole the multitudes and turned around. When they had arrived at Yuan province, everyone in the multitude pushed forward as leader of their alliance, and take control of Yue's multitudes. Luo then, since he considered himself untalented, firmly declined. He and Zhao Gui and others discussed welcoming Taizu. The Wei Emperor, due to Luo's merit in keeping whole the forces, appointed him General of Martial Guards.

Taizu arrived at Pingliang, and used Luo as Great Chief Controller of the Right. He accompanied the chastisement of Houmouchen Yue¤. They pacified him, and he was appointed Inspector of Jing# province. When Xiaowu of Wei moved west, he advanced in feudal rank to Earl of Linyi county, with an estate of 500 households. Soon after he advanced in rank to Great General of Agile Cavalry, Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers, and advanced in feudal rank to be Duke, increasing his estate with 500 households.

Beginning of Datong [535 – 551], Emperor Wen of Wei decreed, saying:

In the past, Homouchen Yue¤ had far-reaching similarities with the rebels and traitors, and covertly murdered the old Duke of Qingshui, Yue, his aspirations being to combine together. In the hastiness of that time, people felt skittish and scared. The Envoy Holding the Tally, Great General of Agile Cavalry, Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers, former Inspector of Jing# province, Great Chief Controller, and State-Founding Duke of Linyi county, Kuo Luo, whose loyalty and sincerity comes from the heart, and whose merit truly were quickly established, thereupon brought together the righteous army to wait on the Great Imperial Chancellor. He saw the danger and offered his life, and push forward the worthy and deferred [to him]. That this is not yet rewarded, how is that persuading and encouraging [someone?] to want to come. Can promoted him to Opening Office, and advance his feudal rank to Duke of Jingzhao commandery.

He ennobled Luo's mother, Ms. Song, as Lady of Xiangcheng commadnery. Again he moved to General who Leads the Army.

3rd Year [537 AD], he set out to be Inspector of Hua province, additionally Attendant-at-Centre. He restored Luoyang together with Dugu Xin, then shifted to garrison Hongnong.

4th Year [538 AD], he accompanied Taizu to battle with Eastern Wei at Heqiao. The army turned back, Luo led his section to garrison Dongyong.

5th Year [539 AD], he passed at the garrison, at the time he was aged 53 [sui]. He was conferred Envoy Holding the Tally, Attendant-at-Centre, Chief Controller for the Various Army Affairs of Yong, Hua, Bin, Jing#, Yuan, and the Three Qin, Twelve Provinces, Grand Commandant, Prefect of the Masters of Writing, Great General of Agile Cavalry, and Inspector of Yong province. His posthumous title was Martial [wu].

His son He inherited. 2nd Year of Shizong [558 AD], they recorded the deeds of old. They considered to Luo to join in with the sacrificial banquets at Taizu's temple courtyard, and bestowed on He the family name Ruokouyin, and changed his fief to Duke of Songyang commandery. Later he reached Opening Office with Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers and Middle Grandee of the Visitor Section.

Luo's younger brother Shao reached the rank of Upper Pillar of State and Duke of Beiping commandery.
