van life
I wasn’t gonna post this because it’s just like an overload of unrealistic softness but now that we know that they’re selling the van I think now is the best time if I’m gonna do it lol.
Also I’m sorry I can’t make this shorter on your dash by putting a ‘keep reading’ break. Tumblr is shitty and permanently fucked on my desktop where it just won’t load the page once I’m logged in so I have to do everything through mobile🙄

warnings: fluff, smut, kinda unedited

MJ sighs as warm morning sunlight kisses her skin through the passenger window of the tiny house van. She and Grayson had decided to have a beach day to themselves — the first one of summer — and she could’t be more excited. Nothing makes MJ Macias more content and at peace with her life than laying under the Pacific sun until her nose freckles and her skin takes on that healthy golden hue. Wrinkles are a risk she’s willing to take as long as she has a nice, long podcast, something to munch on, and, of course, a good view of her boyfriend in the surf.
That view of him rivals the one of the ocean in her opinion, which is just past his window as they cruise down the PCH on their way to Malibu. MJ wiggles her white-painted toes on the dashboard and smiles as she watches him sing along quietly (and off-key) to the Tame Impala song filling the cabin of the van. She loves his profile so much: the perfect slope of his nose; his full lips; the chunk of hair that swoops across his forehead.
She lifts their clasped hands from where they rest on her thigh with their fingers threaded together, and kisses the back of his wide palm.
“You’re so handsome, Bear,” MJ murmurs against his skin.
Grayson stops singing long enough to look over at her and smile brightly, his eyes hidden behind his black Louis Vuitton sunglasses. He pulls their hands towards himself so he can copy her kiss, only to her her own soft skin.
“My pretty Peach,” he returns with a squeeze to her palm, making MJ flush the color of her pet name. “Always so beautiful in the mornings.”
MJ hums and takes her turn returning their hands back to her lap, trailing her long nails up and down his muscular, veiny forearm. Apparently they’re equally as headass for each other today. “Just in the mornings?” she teases, tickling the sensitive patch of skin near the crook of his elbow.
She can’t see his eyes roll, but she imagines they do as his grin turns playful. “Of course not, but especially in the mornings. Your hair is in that cute braid and your skin is all silky soft and your eyes are extra green.” He takes his eyes off the road for a moment to appraise her looking exactly as he described. “And, you know, usually on the weekends you’d still be naked at this time. I like that part about mornings, too.”
“Oh, Lord,” she laughs with a shake of her head. “Grayson!”
She gasps his name and giggles harder as he completely catches her off guard by moving their hands right over his hardening cock. MJ squeezes him reflexively, and Grayson gives a little grunt as he shifts in his seat with a smirk.
“What?” he asks in mock defense, placing both hands back on the steering wheel. “I had to show you how much you affect me! I only have to think about you naked in our bed and it goes up.”
“That’s sweet,” MJ says, stroking his dick one more time before moving her hand further down his thigh, “but if you think I’m giving you road head in this car on this twisty road, you’re very mistaken.”
Grayson makes an obnoxious little whiny noise in defeat, pouting playfully and muttering dejectedly, “I knew we should have taken the Tesla.”
MJ raises an eyebrow. “Well, we wouldn’t have been able to bring your surfboard. Or be the first ones to christen the tiny house.”
“Oh, shit,” Gray says quietly, surprised. MJ smiles at the small victory of teasing him, her eyes diverting back to the beautiful scenery ahead of them as her mind wanders to all the things they can do in that makeshift bed.
“How about road hand, then, to start it off?”
She lets out a frustrated huff, his request interrupting her daydream. If there was ever a scenario where she didn't trust Grayson, it was one in which he was receiving any overt sexual pleasure whilst controlling a giant motor vehicle.
“Gray, I love you, but you’re pushing it.”
“Understood.”
***
It takes about half an hour for them to reach their destination, but MJ knows it was worth the drive as soon as they exit the car and she inhales the clean, salty air. They park at a little camping lot they had reserved a spot in for the day, the glittering ocean a mere few hundred feet away.
“Surf looks good,” MJ remarks, her hand shielding her eyes as she gazes out at the water. It always makes her a little nervous when Gray goes out in big swells, so the mild waves are a happy sight for her. “Nice and small; just how I like ‘em.”
Grayson looks out as well as he climbs on the roof of the van to retrieve the surfboard. “Funny, I happen to know for a fact you like ‘em long and wide,” he jokes. He just couldn’t help himself, apparently, his wide smile looking down at her from the top of the ladder a clear display of how proud of the stupid joke he is.
MJ watches the exposed muscles in his arms and shoulders ripple under his skin as he begins wrestling with the hooks and ties securing the board to the roof racks. The sight combined with his words and thoughts of what transpired earlier in the car makes her center pulse dangerously.
Needless to say, he’s successfully turned her on despite her best efforts.
“You’re insufferable, Dolan,” she says with a shake of her head. Her body feels heated from his innuendo and also the midmorning sun that is steadily raising the outside temperature. She pulls off the hoodie she had thrown on in the chilly early morning and steps into the back seat to haul out the cooler and beach bag.
“Yeah, but you love me,” his voice comes from right behind her. She turns around and yelps in surprise when she sees Grayson peeking his head upside down into the cab from the roof. He’s inches from her and is just dangling there like an overgrown monkey, which makes her fall back in the seat in a fit of giggles. He wags his brows at her playfully. “Ooh! Spider-Man kiss!”
MJ rolls her eyes good-naturedly and happily scoots over to clasp his cheeks in her hands, granting his wish by planting a sweet kiss to his lips. The scruff on his chin tickles her nose peculiarly, but she’s not mad at it. “Too much. I love you too much, you goof.”
Finally, with all their beach supplies in hand, they walk together towards the ocean. The private beach that they can access with their camp site is quiet and secluded. Best of all, it isn't clogged with tourists or people in general, which they both greatly prefer. Less people means they’re less likely to be bombarded by fangirls, or paparazzi, or any other unwanted distractions from what MJ hopes will be a perfect day.
As soon as the texture under her feet changes from firm concrete to sunken sand, MJ is stopping to remove her flip-flops so her toes can dig into the fine powder. This moment of first stepping on the beach is one of her favorite experiences, as minute and insignificant as it seems.
She looks up at Grayson, who glances back down at her questioningly. “Race ya,” she challenges suddenly, hauling ass to a perfect open spot on the wide expanse of beach. If there’s one thing she and her boyfriend have in common, it’s a highly competitive spirit.
“Cheater!” Grayson calls after her. He has the surfboard under one arm and the cooler slung over his shoulder, but everyone knows Grayson Dolan is the last person to turn down a competition. Which is why he does his best to catch up to her even with the obstacles in his arms holding him back.
The finish line is also only in MJ’s head, so she stops when she finds a spot she likes. She drops their bag and turns around with her arms raised like Rocky. Grayson isn’t very far behind her, being as in-shape as he is he’s reached her quickly, but he slows down earlier than he really needs to so he can take her in. Her breasts heave beneath a leopard print bikini top, loose hairs escape from her messy french braid, and her long legs glitter with the sand she had kicked up on her run.
She’s the most beautiful, dorky, amazing woman he’s ever seen and she is his.
MJ watches smugly as her boyfriend stalks over to her. “I wi—“
Grayson releases everything he’s carrying to the sand and grasps her face in both hands, pulling her in for a long, lingering kiss. MJ lets out a little squeak of surprise, but she melts into him half a second later. Nothing warms her soul more than his lips on hers, and she wraps her arms around his middle to bring them as close together as possible.
When he pulls back, Grayson stares at her with complete, obvious adoration. Ethan would have called him a simp if he were there, that’s how sappy his twin looks. Grayson can’t help himself, though; he is a simp for MJ, and, truthfully, he doesn’t give two shits who knows it as long as he makes her smile up at him like she is now, every day.
It’s why yesterday he had casually opened a new browser window, convincing himself he was just curiously window shopping on the ring section of Tiffany’s and the like… even after he got sucked into the customization tool on one website for nearly two hours.
Shaking his head and biting his lip through a grin, he traces the freckles on MJ’s cheek. “I want a rematch later.”
MJ squeezes him and smacks his ass playfully before releasing him and reaching into the bag for the big blanket. “You’re always such a sore loser,” she teases, unfolding the cloth and weighing it down with Grayson’s help. She digs through the bag again and hands him his wetsuit. “Go catch some waves. I have to catch up on this podcast by this really sexy guy and his twin brother.”
If there could be snapshots of the rest of the day, they would have been out of a picturesque rom-com. For a while, MJ rests on her tummy as she watches Grayson glide through the water, his deep voice simultaneously reverberating in her ears through her AirPods.
Eventually, when he’s done surfing — looking like a beach Adonis when he walks up the shore with the top half of his wetsuit folded down at his hips, surfboard under his arm and his wet abs glistening in the sun — he joins her on the blanket.
In the early afternoon MJ props herself up on her elbow, appraising his form with hungry, appreciative eyes as he tans on his back next to her. He has his hands pillowed behind his head, which causes his biceps to bulge and her thighs to clench. MJ is lost in him as she trails her finger over the features of his face — down his button nose, smoothing over his arched brows, across his rosy cheeks, against his pillowy lips. She smiles as he sighs contentedly and drops a peck to the tip of his nose before settling with her cheek on his chest. He smells like tanning oil and ocean and that clean, woody musk that MJ knows as him.
Later, they wade around in the sea between batches of sun bathing. At some points, he’s holding her waist-deep in the water with her legs wrapped around his middle and arms around his neck, lips connecting occasionally amidst easy conversation. Other times they have full-on water fights that have her squealing and him laughing as they splash each other back and forth.
It isn’t until the orange and pink hues of the sunset paint the sky that they’re brought back to the beach for good. Once they rinse off and have all of their things collected, they head back to the van.
MJ removes her bikini inside while Grayson reattaches the surfboard to the roof. She slips on her sweatshirt and a fresh pair of soft shorts just in time for him to carefully crack open the back door to make sure she’s decent.
Grayson smiles widely as he crawls in on the already made bed where she sits and is piling her damp hair into a messy bun. “So fucking beautiful,” he murmurs, giving her a lingering kiss while her hands are still mid-twist in her long hair.
A pleasant warmth swoops through her belly at his compliment; it had taken her a while to get accustomed to not only how often Grayson rains sweet praises like that down on her, but how sincerely he means them, too.
She hums into his mouth right before he pulls away. “I left your shorts there, baby,” she says, gesturing behind her with her head. Gray thanks her and she starts to dig through the cooler as he tugs his swimsuit down his inked legs, following them back up with the clean shorts.
They eat dinner with the back doors wide open, a perfect view of the sun setting below the ocean’s horizon right in front of them. A pleasant breeze floats around them in the van, cool and refreshing from being picked up right off the water. MJ nuzzles her cheek on Grayson’s bare shoulder, and he presses a kiss to the top of her head as she chews her last bite of tofu.
“Thank you for such a perfect day,” MJ says a minute later, gazing up at him while he takes a sip of La Croix. “Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I felt so…carefree. Loved. In love. Not that you don’t make me feel those things every day, but… y’know. Today was just great.”
Her hand reaches to caress his stubbly cheek, a soft smile at the corner of her full lips. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Gray.”
Grayson looks down at her silently, but his eyes say everything his lips don’t. He tucks his can and their empty tupperware back into the cooler, tossing the bag into one of the back seats behind them so it’s out of the way.
He cups her cheeks in both hands, wasting no more time in bringing their mouths together. MJ sighs and shifts so she’s that much closer to him, just as his tongue prods gently at her pliant lips to coax them open.
They make out like that, slow and deep, with the soundtrack of crashing waves wafting through the open doors. Gray lies her down and supports the back of her head with his forearm, his free hand swooping up and down her side before settling in the dramatic dip of her waist as he pulls away just barely.
Eyes closed, their breaths come heavy and mingle sweetly in the minute space between them. Grayson suddenly lets out a little incredulous huff, shaking his head and diving back in blindly to suck softly on her bottom lip. MJ lets out a little moan and digs her nails gently down his bare back, her eyes fluttering open.
“What?” she asks with a little smile of her own, nuzzling her nose against his in an Eskimo kiss.
Grayson’s hazel orbs meet her green ones, and the hand resting on her waist comes to cup her face once again so he can stroke the new freckles that litter her high cheekbone.
“I’m gonna marry you,” he answers, chuckling at her shocked little gasp. He hurries to clarify himself. “One day, when we’re ready. You’re my world, MJ. Maybe it’s selfish, or self aggrandizing, but hearing you say that makes it so obvious to me that you’re the only person I’d ever want to spend the rest of my life with. Because I feel the same about you. I only ever want to make you feel that way; nothing makes me happier.”
MJ is stunned into silence. Grayson isn’t exactly the most eloquent person, so somehow she reasons that his perfect delivery of such meaningful words means they’re truly heartfelt. Not that she would have doubted him either way, but their relationship has suddenly shifted even deeper in the matter of one day. One simple, amazing day.
She feels the prickle of tears behind her eyes, and bites her lip through a watery smile as she raises her hand to run her fingers through the back of his hair. No matter how happy she is, her instinct for dealing with any emotions is to deflect with humor. “Can’t wait ’til I pop out a few of your babies. From the sounds of it, you’ll be worshipping the ground I walk on.”
That hits him right in the baby fever, his dick hardening even more behind his shorts at the thought of her belly swollen with his child. Joking or not, she’s absolutely right.
“Fuck,” he whispers, grinning as he ducks his head to nibble her favorite spot just behind her jaw and right under her ear. “How many of my babies? Hm?”
“Mmm,” she sighs, scratching lightly at his scalp, considering the question seriously. “Four little Dolan babies, I think. Three boys and a little girl.”
“Yeah,” Grayson agrees easily, making his way across her jaw with soft little suckles. “But make that three girls and a little boy, and you've got a deal.”
MJ giggles and grabs his face so they’re staring each other in the eye again. “No actual baby-making until there’s a ring on this finger.” She wiggles the digits of her left hand, which Grayson grabs and kisses the back of with a smirk. If only she knew just how close that moment might be. “But we can always practice in the meantime.”
Grayson nods and hitches her leg up his hip as he ducks down for a surprisingly chaste kiss considering her invitation a second before. As much as he wants her, he has a need deep in his chest just to be close to her for the moment. To feel her hold him and nuzzle into the warm crook of his neck, sucking gently on that freckle there to make his head swim like after a nice glass of wine.
MJ is just as happy with that arrangement, and she lets her body be still and her breaths tickle the sensitive skin at his collarbone. The ocean breeze billowing through the open doors of the van is cool and salty and comforting.
“It’s crazy,” Grayson whispers after a few peaceful minutes, his fingers starting to trail up and down her covered back slowly. MJ pulls back a little so she can see his face. He isn't looking at her, but rather out the open van doors at the last moments of the sun setting behind the water. “I remember feeling exactly this way the first day we met, only now it’s…more. You felt right then, so right it was scary. And here we are. How did I know that you were my person as soon as you let me walk you back to that tent?”
MJ smiles and her belly swoops. She thinks back to that night, how scared she had been and how instantly — well, as he said — right Grayson had felt the minute they crossed paths.
“I did kind of seduce you,” she chuckles, lifting her head to nibble at the underside of his chin and reveling in the sensation of his deep chuckle vibrating against her lips. “Maybe you’re just under my Black Widow spell. Have I never let it slip I’m only after your money?”
Grayson laughs louder, squeezing her to his body tighter. “Nope. But that’s the MJ I remember falling head over heels for in a matter of hours. Smart and witty and sweet and so fucking pretty with her green eyes and bright smile.”
MJ stares up at him with stars in those emerald eyes he adores so much. He is unreal to both see and hear; his skin has turned olive and his hair has the crisp of the ocean still in it, and the fact that he can still pinpoint the little things he liked about her from so long ago…
“Do you love me?” she asks quietly. It’s so ridiculously unnecessary to ask, he tells her multiple times a day, every day.
“So much, Peach,” he murmurs back predictably, finally swooping down to capture her lips like she wanted earlier, tongues meshing instantly.
He tastes so familiar and sweet. She wants to devour him slowly, intimately, like she has a thousand times before.
“Close the doors?” MJ gasps after the simple swipe of his thumb over her nipple through her sweatshirt makes her thighs tremble and her hips grind onto his half-hard erection. Something about the heartwarming intimacy of the day has translated to her body being physically sensitive beyond belief.
Grayson nods and sits up, reaching for the switch of the fairy lights MJ had hung up a few weeks ago before slamming the doors shut on the nighttime scenery.
While he does as she asked, she scoots up to rest her head on a pillow and watches his bare, chiseled torso glow in the dim, sensual lights. Right as he turns around he catches her struggling to free herself from her hoodie.
“Let me do it, Peach. I wanna do it,” he breathes, dipping down to kiss her soundly before tugging upward on the hem of the soft fabric. MJ drops her head to the pillow to break the seal of their lips, lifting her arms up so he can pull the garment over her head.
Grayson flings it to the front of the van and brings their mouths together so quickly, like he simply can’t be away from her lips for longer than a second. His hands reach up and cup the pliable mounds of her breasts, which are several shades lighter than the rest of her chest. Clearly, he could care less, and MJ sighs softly as he massages them firmly, his calloused palms creating delicious friction on her hypersensitive nipples.
“Still the prettiest tits I’ve ever seen, too,” he smirks, making his way across her jaw. MJ smiles too, eyes closed in bliss as he kisses the familiar trail down her sternum. Predictably, his warm lips suction around the bud of her left breast, and she lets her mind wander through the pleasure to flash back on the first time he did this.
“We’re still kind of in a tent, too, y’know,” she gasps as he switches sides, letting out her first moan of the night when he scrapes his teeth against her. “Just…more bougie.”
Grayson hums, quickly getting lost in the feel of how soft her tits are and how much he loves the sensation of her hard nipples under his tongue. He drops his hips down so he can grind his full erection against her hot center, eliciting wanton gasps from both of them.
MJ groans again, the feminine sound literal music to his ears and the perfect reinforcement to keep going. She hooks her legs around his waist to hold his hips against her, thrusting up against him as he continues to bite and lick and suckle her breasts.
“Holy shit, Gray, right there… I’m gonna cum,” she whimpers, grasping at his hair to hold him down where he was sucking perfectly on her breast, and continues to grind roughly on his dick. Sure enough, a few seconds later she’s shuddering with the most intense orgasm she’s ever had without manual stimulation. Even from Grayson.
Grayson himself can hardly believe it; they have a great sex life, but he can’t remember the last time he had gotten her off just through some intense dry humping.
He isn’t going to question it, though, because it only means one thing: she’s as voracious for him tonight as he is for her. He growls when she starts to come down and surprises her with his mouth planting roughly back on hers. MJ kisses him back lazily as her mind clears some, smiling and fluttering her eyes open to meet his dark gaze when she feels his middle finger replace his tongue in her mouth. She closes her swollen, pouty lips around the digit and sucks, holding onto his hand and maintaining complete eye contact with him when he moans softly. She pulls his hand out of her mouth and pushes it into her shorts.
“Fuck,” he rasps, collecting her slippery cum against his finger, swirling it against his thumb before trailing his middle finger up to her clit. He soaks in her expression as her eyes roll back at the first contact, his favorite reaction she has to his touch. “Fuck, MJ. So fucking wet for me.”
MJ nods quickly, opening her eyes again to watch him watch her. “Lemme taste,” she whimpers.
She pulls his hand back up and doesn’t wait for permission or leave him time to process her demand as she sucks the slick moisture straight off his finger, the taste of herself gracing her tongue causing her pussy to gush even more. When his brain finally catches up, he’s immediately ripping his hand away from her with a harsh groan and hooking it around the back of her neck to kiss her deeply. His tongue plunders her mouth as he searches for traces of that sweet, earthy tang he knows oh-so well. MJ’s hands distractedly push at the waistband of his shorts, desperate for the feel of his dick in her hands.
“Please, baby,” she whines against his lips when they break for air, using the moment of clarity to tug more determinedly at his shorts. “Need you.”
“Need me where?” he teases, backing up so she can’t reach him as he pulls her own shorts down her long, newly tanned legs. Once he flings the scrap of fabric to join her sweater, he ducks down and swipes his tongue quickly over each of her nipples. “Here?”
MJ groans and shakes her head, her brain not operating at enough capacity to tease back, it’s so clouded with desire for him. “Gray…”
Grayson smirks and grabs one of her hands that are coasting down his back and attempting to pull him down against her. He cups her petite palm against his pulsing erection, sighing a little when her fingers wrap around him through his shorts instinctively. He drops his hand and brings it to her pussy, his fingertips dancing delicately against her swollen lower lips. His head swims at how wet she is and how the solid feel of him seems to have brought her mind back to earth, because as soon as he lets go of her hand she delves past his waistband to grip him directly.
“My dick, baby, you need my dick?” he asks softly, his voice a little high and his breath pitchy as she strokes him steadily now.
MJ moans and her pussy throbs simply at his words. She nods hastily. “Need it in me,” she manages, meeting his heated gaze as she gives him a firm squeeze. “Love your dick.”
“Yeah,” he sighs, his touch leaving her as he helps her in getting him completely naked, kicking his shorts off when they reach his ankles.
He takes a moment to gather himself and to slow down, trying to get himself back in that intimate headspace they were so deep in earlier, so that this doesn’t turn into just a hot, hard fuck. They love that, and it’s kind of their bread and butter in the bedroom. But he wants to hold her close and savor her body, to pass that loving energy between them in the most special, physical way.
MJ’s chest heaves as she watches Grayson hover above her, staring at her, and she parts her legs to welcome him back into her space. He looks like a fucking Greek god in the low light, his hair curly from the saltwater and sweat, his skin golden and his muscles bulging. She can’t possibly want him any more than in that moment.
“C’mere,” she whispers, reaching her arms out and making grabby hands at him. She can’t allow another second to go by without the sensation of his smooth skin against hers.
Grayson smiles sweetly at her, eyes sultry as he lowers himself at her request and presses their bodies together from chests to centers. She cups his cheeks and scratches her fingers against his scruff as they kiss slowly, deeply, desire building intensely once again as they grind together at the middle.
“Please, Grayson,” she finally says again.
All thoughts of any more teasing are out the door as Grayson obliges her. He dips his fingers in her pussy, testing her readiness and using her sweet juices to coat his dick.
MJ spreads her legs up and out, bent at the knees, and she throws her head back with a gasp as he enters her in a short thrust; a little more on the second, until he bottoms out with the third.
“Fuck me,” she whimpers, her hands pushing on the firm globes of his ass.
Grayson obeys with a groan, drawing his hips in and out steadily. “Wanna fuck you slow,” he says in her ear, thrusting all the way in and all the way out. The warm clutch of her perfect pussy is so intense at that tempo that he shudders and his eyes roll back. “Slow and deep, Peach.”
“Yes,” MJ agrees, her breaths coming in fast despite the maintained speed of his dick. He’s working her up so good, and she leans forward to bite into the junction of his neck and shoulder out of habit to keep her sounds muffled.
“Yes, baby,” she squeals quietly when her minute adjustment shifts the angle just right for him to hit her spot over and over. Her nails claw at his back, scraping over the work of art that is both his rippling muscles and the picture of the lions inked into them. “Oh my God, keep fucking me like that.. like that…”
The air confined in the van is warm and thick. Sweat drips from the ends of his hair, his hot breaths fan over her forehead, and his chain dangles enticingly across her face as he stares down at her all blissed out beneath him. Nothing turns him on more than her words of encouragement, which are usually muted due to the fact that his omnipresent twin brother lives across the hall. But now that they’re alone, in nature — just like the night they met — all filters are off. It makes him even more determined to get her to cum so hard she forgets any of those sweet praises she’s mumbling other than his name.
It’s already so, so good, but as soon as he gets on his knees just enough to gain more leverage to thrust even harder into her, that knot in MJ’s stomach starts growing in a fantastically unfamiliar way. Her eyes roll back and Grayson reaches a huge hand up to support her head against his shoulder, sensing how perfect the angle is for her and wanting to help her maintain it. She’s getting tighter and wetter around him, so much so that he has to grit his teeth and hiss to avoid having to pull out and stop.
“MJ,” he moans into her ear, tugging on her lobe with his teeth, an unspoken warning that he’s close. He’ll hold on as long as he can, but he absolutely needs to get her there first.
In the back of her mind, she comprehends his cue. But she’s so focused on reaching the bursting point of that expanding ball behind her belly, she can’t help but selfishly draw every ounce of pleasure she can from him. She thinks she knows what’s going to happen, and it will be a first-time experience for both of them.
It’s only going to take a few more deep, hard thrusts, and she’ll be there. Almost there…
“Gray!” she squeaks, squeezing a hand between their bodies to push against his abs, just in time for him to pull out and her to gush all over him and the blankets serving as makeshift sheets beneath them. It’s an indescribable release that washes over her, her own loud, shaky squeals of pleasure distant noises in the back of her head. She can only see colors behind her closed eyelids, greens and blues and lavenders sparkling in her mind’s eye like a mystical fog.
Grayson can’t believe what he’s seeing. His shocked and aroused groan sounds obnoxiously loud and foreign in his own ears; the fact that he doesn’t bust his nut right there on the blanket next to hers is a miracle. Instinctively, he reaches his fingers down to help her through it by rubbing her clit, huffing out an incredulous laugh when her thighs clamp instantly around his hand and a little more of her juices come out, soaking his hand. His name tumbles repeatedly out of her lips, just like he was aiming for and unwittingly exceeding his own expectations.
He’s painfully hard as he leans over her again, kissing her through her mindless whimpers as she starts to slowly come-to, her damp thighs opening once again and allowing him to slip between them. Right where he belongs.
“MJ?” he whispers, stroking her brow softly and watching her face intently. “You okay?”
Eyes still closed and breasts heaving, MJ takes a second to respond, but she moans quietly and nods, puckering her lips in invitation for him to meet with his. He obliges, indulging her for a moment until he can’t wait anymore. “Where do you want me to cum?”
“Inside,” she breathes at once, reaching down to grasp him and bring him to her dripping pussy. Grayson flinches at her sudden grip on him and the overwhelming wetness against the sensitive head of his dick. “Come on, Bear. Want you to cum hard inside me.”
With a groan, he slides back inside her, and a few hard, sloppy thrusts later, he’s shooting deep in her pussy. He’s never cum so hard in his life, and he whines into her mouth with the timing of his spurts. She hums contentedly, obsessed with that feeling of warmth that comes with, well, his cum.
“So good,” he murmurs when he’s finally done, pulling out of her slowly. He grabs a spare towel and cleans up the liquid white that follows him dripping from her center. “That was incredible, MJ. You’re incredible.”
MJ shakes her head in agreement, clapping a hand to her forehead and giggling softly, her knees bent and swaying side to side. “I thought we had done everything to try to get that to happen. Turns out we just had to go back to the beginning.”
Grayson lies down next to her, turning her head with a gentle hand on her cheek so he can press their lips together. “I love you,” he says simply. “My pretty Peach.”
MJ grabs a blanket and tosses it over the both of them, brushing her nose against his once they’re cuddled together. “And I love my Gray Bear. Mine.”
“Yours,” he whispers in affirmation, tucking her head into the crook of his neck until they’re both lulled to sleep in their cozy little bougie tent.

The Last Line : Waterdriving
@writeblrsummerfest‘s posted this amazing prompt today & I’m late. The prompt was:
Write or draw something about your character’s dealing with the summer heat!
Tumblr media
Königsberg was alive in the warm weather. The wide streets were lined with a number of tents where goods were sold, most civilians from the countryside. The Northern Patrol walked the settlement in their summer whites, chatting and laughing with the civilians. Vitale smiled, glad to see the coldness separating soldier and civilians through the winter melt away just the same.
It was warm, the sun high, reminding her so much of Rome.
"Vitale!" She turned finding Zev and a few of the ranks down the road. He waved for her attention, other hand holding the bridle of a horse. "Come on! Come with us!" Kuebrich was with him, Quinn as well, turning at the ruckus. They all had some random assembly of training uniforms on. Most in their high boots and bunched trousers, all in their sleeveless tanks.
"Where are you going?" She called, jogging through the crowd towards them. Zev waited for her, nodding her along to follow the rest of them.
"Down to the coast! Want to go? We're going waterdriving!"
The boy was already pink at the cheeks, clear he had been out in the summer sun already. "You like horses, right?"
"Of course."
"And you like the ocean?"
"Yeah!"
"Great! Let's go!" He grabbed her wrist, pulling her along after the train of recruits. She couldn't help but feel elated. Since arriving in Konigsberg, she felt disconnected, from Anglians, from officers, from Becker's soldiers. She had thought, as an assistant to an Earl as harsh as Becker, no one would want anything to do with her. "Hey, guys, Vitale's going too."
There were nearly twenty in all, most Becker's men. Some carried thin wooden shields, others lead or rode horses. When they turned back to look at her, it was mostly smiles.
"Vitale, don't feel pressured to go along," Kuebrich called back, sympathetic in tone. "You don't have to listen to him."
"Oh, I'd like to go. If it's alright, I don't want to impose."
"No such thing," Quinn chuckled, adjusting the shield on his arm to pat her back. "We're glad to have you."
"Yeah! Now the numbers are even!"
Becker waded through the clogs of crowds. Summer markets brought strangers to Königsberg, and with it his arming sword remained a constant on his hip. The market square was a center of shouting and haggling. Merchants leaned from their makeshift stalls, bellowing out the perks of their goods. Becker grimaced as he passed those too loud for his liking. Those from villages all throughout the Regime flocked to the capital as if they could impress the leaders for more supplies all through the year. Becker despised all of them.
In the back alleys, crammed between stacks of wooden lofts, was the lone door he was looking for. The steps creaked loudly, soft for his liking making him cautious of approaching the door. Straining to reach, he knocked once. Nothing. Daring closer, he knocked again.
Even in the shade of the alley, it was hot. He hated the heat, how uncomfortable and taxing it made everything. At least in the cold layers could be exchanged. But not here. He knocked a third time, irritated when Rune didn't answer. Where else could she be?
A familiar marching cadence worked its way up from the bustle of the crowd. Becker leaned back from the steps watching a parade of horses pass the alley. Hanari, Wyatt, Quinn, and Kuebrich among them. Rune happily mixed up with them. He watched them march out of sight, none dressed properly for training, no need for horses inside the walls. There was no telling what they were up to.
Grumbling about the heat, Becker tracked off after them, slogging through the crowd.
Kuebrich rode his way to the front of the line, flashing papers to the guards. They regarded the line of them with lifted brows, but waved them on through. On the other side of the walls, they could hear the ocean roar. Everyone piled up onto a horse, two to a steed, racing down the slope towards the sandy foot of the cliffs. Rune rode with Zev, amazed by their energy. They were different than on a battlefield or at rollcall. Youthful, bright, and wild.
Even Kuebrich who dared to race Wyatt.
Königsberg was a fleck on the cliffs above, leaving only the group of them on the dark sand and rushing waves. The air was cool, a constant breeze from the water. White crests broke out in the shallows, against a sand bar creating a wide strip of ankle-deep pools.
"Who wants to race?" Hanari called boldly, graceful as a cat as he dismounted Quinn's horse.
"I'll take you." Zev announced, and only after taking the bet, turned to Rune. "You can ride a horse, right? Will you ride and pull me?"
"I can, but what do you mean?" She glanced over finding Quinn handing Hanari the shield, and one end of a long slack of rope.
"Waterdriving, one person races the horse, the other person surfs on a board, in the shallows, pulled behind."
"Is that really a good idea?"
"Please, Vitale?" Zev pressed his palms together, managing to pout his big, brown eyes. "I can't let Hanari beat me again. He'll never let me live it down."
"Are you coming or not?" Hanari barked.
"Please?"
"Oh, alright." She threw her hands out causing him to laugh and leap down. He showed her how to tie the rope around the saddlehorn. His horse was a bay quarter horse, mild mannered to have to deal with Zev's energy. It seemed accustomed to the summer sport, lining up beside Quinn and his much heavier steed.
"You know the rules, first one to the overhang wins." Kuebrich lifted an arm high overhead, "No shoving, no rushing into one another, and so help me, Zev, if you try throwing rocks again—"
"Just say go." The boy grumbled. With a sigh Kuebrich straightened.
"Ready? Riders on your mark!" Rune leaned forwards in the saddle, watching Kuebrich's arm, "Go!"
Both horses shot forwards, Rune leaning her weight in the stirrups as the quarter horse strove for traction in the wet sand. Quinn's horse was slower to take off, deep voice booming a YAH as they drove. Checking over a shoulder she found Zev upright on his shield, gripping the rope with both hands, skating across the water. The sand ahead looked like glass, reflecting the blue sky above. Gulls fumbled and flapped out of their way, crying out in protest.
The sun was hot, the ocean spray was cool, and Quinn was catching up.
She nudged the horse on, glancing over to the burly rider who grinned through his squint. He pulled ahead, Hanari crouched, one hand skimming the water. Like everything he did, he made it look effortless.
"C'mon boy, arri! Almost there!"
"Hey!" Zev yelped, a tug snapping on the rope. She glanced back watching Hanari tilt, sending a spray of water into Zev's face. She pulled them away, avoiding a deep pool and their range of spray. Quinn laughed loudly, calling a taunt. She egged the horse on again, low in the saddle beginning to pull ahead. Zev swung out wide, avoiding a rock and hooking dangerously close to Hanari.
He didn't so much as flinch.
Rune glanced back, worried the boy was going to try something stupid. At this speed, a fall could break bone, or a neck. But in turning forwards, she saw what the boy had planned. There was a fallen boulder up ahead, cutting the shallows in two. It was a dare, turning into a game of guts.
She pressed on, deciding to cut it as close as possible to the boulder. How competitive Zev was, there was no way he was going to chicken out. He was liable of getting himself killed over a game. And what would Becker say? Getting one of his veteran scouts killed? Pressing herself up, she shifted her weight into one stirrup, holding her balance as she gripped the rope. As the boulder drew closer she threw her weight off the side, legs sweeping under the horse's belly for the other stirrup.
The throw of her weight yanked on the rope, sending Zev out in a wide arch out towards the water and away from the rock. Their horse just barely missed it, close enough to have taken off her leg in the stirrup. Pulling herself back up she strained to hold onto the horn, now in the lead having not swung out as far as Quinn. Hanari was in drier sand, dragging them down.
"What was that?!" Zev cheered, falling back behind the horse with a cheer. "That was amazing!"
She could barely breathe, heart thundering in her ears, smiling hard enough to hurt her face. They crossed beneath the cliff undercut well ahead Quinn and Hanari. Slowing them in a turn she started getting her hearing back. Zev leapt off his shield rushing her as she dismounted. He threw his arms around her, bouncing and cheering.
"Ha! In your face! We won this year!"
"Yeah, thanks to Vitale." Quinn chuckled, passing her a wink. "Real fancy riding there, sir. Is that how they do in Rome?"
"Only the best." She laughed, Zev jostling her more.
"Yeah, that's the only reason you won," Hanari teased. "I want to see you do that, Zev. Can you ride a horse like that?"
"Says you, you cheat!" Zev barked.
"Alright, you two. Zev and Vitale won, fair and square, Hanari. Now let's get out of the way so the next round can go." They gathered up their things, riding back towards the group. There were more cheers, more slaps on the back as they congratulated her.
The excitement broke off, everyone looking up the hill. She turned stiffening at the sight of Becker. He stood with his arms crossed, sure he wore that same frown he always did.
"Kuebrich, did you get clearance to come out here?" Hanari hissed, the only one daring to speak.
"I-it's ok," Vitale forced on a smile, "I'll talk to him. I'm sure it's fine." Her feet felt suddenly heavy as she forced herself up the hill. Squaring her shoulders she drew up into a salute. "Earl Becker—"
"That was impressive maneuvering," it wasn't what she expected to hear from him. "I had no idea you knew how to ride like that."
"Oh, uh, yes… sometimes." She stole a peek at him, not angry, not frowning, scanning over the ocean as if in deep thought.
"Hm, perhaps we should start bringing your horse on marches."
"I, well, I don't have a horse." he dropped his stare to her, brow wrinkling.
"You don't have your own horse?"
"No, sir." For a moment still he watched her, struggling to make sense of it.
"Well then, we should change that, shouldn't we?" There was almost a smirk, nodding down to the water. "Just be sure they don't get themselves killed." Patting her on the shoulder he turned to go, "Show them how it's done, Officer Vitale."

Drive/Home:The path to you (Astral connection part 3)
Connie looked outside of her window with a groan. She was feeling lonely and touch-starved. She hasn't seen Steven in the last two months, the last they met being their time in the dream...When he told of his visions of his mother. The last time they talked was a week after, a small sweet text with a little information about his next destination, though it had a typo..
‘Can’t wait to meet up again. I'll contact you when I reach my next destination; it's a beach tourist town. I'll pick you up there for your birthday. I love you, Dream Berry’
Connie sighed, a mixture of sadness and pining in the same breath.
“What a way to bring in my twentieth birthday.” She looked at the clock near her bed reading 12:30 am.She officially turned twenty, thirty minutes ago...More importantly to her, it was officially one year since Steven and her became ‘Dream buds’.
“Is he having second thoughts, regrets?”
Connie has been wondering about this since for a couple of weeks...Within the dream they crafted, they acted like newlyweds. They talked intimately, sharing secrets no one else knew, like him no longer being a vegetarian and her getting a tattoo on her right inner thigh...A black and red star.
They kissed each tenderly, passionately, and hungrily, in ways and places only they could. They touched each other in ways that only they could. They loved each other in ways special to them. He loved her in ways no other man or woman would ever be allowed to; an exchange of each other's last bit of mental and spiritual chastity.
She was grateful it was through astral connection and not yet a physical one, or they might've been in trouble after the first few times.. She did start to take precautions in the physical plane, for when...If they did.
“What a way to wake from a dream though. Even more tired, but so much more...Everything else.”
His little carnal text of thank you’s and praise for her amorous nature, they were always the highlight of waking up after those types of nights. It was revitalizing to have him not just enjoy her more... Erotic side...but appreciate it; welcomed it.
"Though Dreamscuit is more libidinous, than I expected." She let out a silent chuckle as she thought of one particular time they were carnivorous with each other.
The scene was a hidden spring he found on his travels, surrounded by tropical foliage and a waterfall spilling into it. He was in it, bare as birth, looking towards her who sat on the edge in her nightwear. The story of how he came across it was simple.
He fell in after chasing down and poofing a falcon like gem mutant. The mutant was causing problems for a nearby cape town with its destructive  behavior, running through shops and breaking merchandise, ravaging the forest nearby, rampaging through the streets. He put an end to it after a chase through the forest, and a well placed shield bash after hitching a ride in its back.
He plummeted, as the falcon was already diving in attempt  to throw him off, leaving him flying down the path set for him. Which happened to be in the spring, he was slightly knocked out due to the force of entry. He stated he dreamed about her during that time...Always dreamed about her when he came here.
Her asking him to tell her his dreams sealed the deal as he swam over to her, innocently; placed his hands on her knees, innocently ; and suggested he showed her his dream; INNOCENTLY .  She agreed of course, it was her Innocent Dreamberry.
Which is why she was surprised when he examined her new tattoo thoroughly, through kneading, suckling and nipping. When he touched her  in ways and places she herself dreamed about., stealing her breath, making lay back as he revealed his fantasies through action..and unknowingly, allow  Connie to live out her own, in a manner of speaking.
At the end, she sat upon him in the spring, peppering his neck and chin with kisses and nips as  he held and instinctively caressed her in away only her can. A way only she would allow him too. They were bare, bitten, bathed in sweat and spring water, and felt a bit bestial in their actions; but there were love with the lust, care with the carnality, romance with ravishing, solicitude with the sex. Their appetitive actions were fueled by their unyielding adoration for each other. It was wonderful..as was the three rounds after; they turned out to be quite the carnivorous couple.
"Couple..are we a couple?"
Small thoughts like that plagued her over the last two weeks, like an annoying bug that won't die and she couldn't stand herself for having them. Six weeks of complete Steven silence led her to uncertainty, over-worry, doubt. It brought thoughts of him being hurt, lost, in danger..even..
"No..He's ok..He's fine..much better than before he left on all fronts."
A calming thought that was compounded  by even worse ones...Her thoughts went from his well being to their new status and the possibility of him no longer seeing her like that. Maybe he found someone else he can be physically intimate with instead of just in a dreamscape? Maybe he found someone better to be with? Maybe he found a better life in the town he was going to..and didn't want to break her heart.
Is this what it was to miss your partner...your lover? Could they even say they were together.. Everything happened in their dreams. Besides fatigue nothing physical passed on.
" Maybe, I'm delusional and even sent those texts to myself." Connie laughed a harsh wet laugh as she laid on her bed. She was so pathetic right now. She knew better. She knows better.. She was just missing him..Badly.
"Get it together, Maheswaran...Just because  he's not around doesn't mean your world stops and everything you shared is moot. You went ten months without him and kept it together. Besides, you know your Biscuit, your Steven...Your man...Whatever  reason he's been silent, it's important."
Rationality and logic sucks sometimes...She did know Steven and because she knew him, she could reason that he going silent was probably  important...Yet stupid. He has a track record of ghosting people because he believes it's the right thing to do at the moment or he didn't want to burden someone..That thought just stroked her ire. She looked towards her phone and all the messages she sent him without a response..
"I'm gonna smother him next time we meet.. I swear to the stars."
Just as she was about to send another text..A roar was heard outside her window. She turned to see Lion, by himself looking up expectantly, ready for his mistress to mount him.
"Well, at least there is one dependable guy in my life."
Connie smirked as she got her jacket, her sword and went to meet her current favorite boy in the whole universe. She kissed the beast skull as she nuzzled close to him. Who in turned nuzzled against  the crook of her neck before licking her cheek, making her giggle. She really could count on Lion to make her feel better.
"Why couldn't you be human, you'd be the best partner. Adorable, dependable, loyal, near ageless, able to teleport where you want..NOT LARS, but of course you have to be a lion, so I can only love you like a son."
She mounted the pink beast, ready for wherever they were going. With a roar, Lion created a portal and the two were off.
"So where are you taking me this time, Lion. A meadow, a battlefield, a forest." She  chuckled as she held onto the beast. This wasn't the first time Lion took her out on a stroll alone. Far from it, this has been a common occurrence ever since Steven's surrender all them years ago.
She was surprised to see them on the beach behind the temple..The place where she officially  met Steven. He bent down allowing her to mount off him. She turned to the sea rested her sword down and watched the serene waves as Lion gave her one last lick and nuzzle, before walking off...As he does on their 'dates', until the time he's needed. She sat pulling her knees to her chest as she took in the scent of the beach with her eyes closed.
The sand, surf and saltwater; his old smell, comforting as always...His smell now was a lot more woody, musty, musky. earthly..It was consuming, arousing and energizing…
Thinking about it made her imagine him. His broad chest, large limbs, long locks, whiskered face, rugged face and strong let pleasant breath. She was so lost in her thoughts that they could literally feel his touch upon her.
The fell of his arms holding her in that special way, around her middle and just above her chest.  His inner thighs brushing against her hips as he sat her on his crossed legs, the feel of his whiskered chin on  her collarbone. She could feel him, smell him.
"So this is what it means to be in love..  To long for someone so much that you can feel their presence even when they are not around. You're not even here..I don't know where you are, but I feel your touch, smell your scent... Isn't that stupid.,,"
"I wouldn't say that, Birthday Berry."
Connie's eyes opened up a husky, wine-like voice, as she looked up to Steven's smirking face. She looked past him for a moment before stretching out her hand to the left as flexing her fist.
"I..I'm not dreaming."
"Oh."
"I was going to summon a wiffle bat and bash your head in."
"Ouch.."
" I can't...I can't see the edge of our scene...Cause it's not a scene… It's real..,"
Steven kissed her crown tenderly as her breath became short, her eyes moistened and her hands trembled as she reached up and touched his face. It was warm..much warmer than the last twelve months. They chuckled, giggled and laughed as the tears began to fall from both of them. Connie kissed his temple as they held each other closed. Silently whispering to each other affirmation after affirmation, that this moment was reality, he was there with her, she was there with him, they were holding, kissing basking in each other in reality.
Connie turned towards him to hold her best friend and be held by him, before looking up. " Was it real?..Last year.. Those times..Was that really.."
She never got to finish as he kissed her tenderly.. The same way he's done it for the last year..Except more chapped, more full, had more heat, softer, gentler..yet rugged. It was his kiss..just not as a dream and she melted for it all the same.
He broke it and looked at her before whispering in her ear about the spring. About what they did in the spring. About the bites, the sounds, the words..Her mark's on his back. About him paying so much attention to her star.
Connie gulped as she covered her face  in embarrassment.
"It was all real, Dream Berry. So to speak." He stroked her hair, as he reaffirmed last year.
Connie laid her head on his chest before taking  his hand in hers. "You're so big now."
"You've said that, almost every time we've met"
"Can't I admire your growth."
"Sure, as long as I can admire your own."
Connie smirked impishly as she covered herself playfully. "These curves are for my partner and me only.."
"Isn't that me though."
Connie looked to the sea. "I thought so..I hoped so..then you went ghost...AgaIn." She looked towards him with a sadden glint in her eye.  "Two months, No contact.. What happened?"
Steven sighed, shame coming from the breath. "I did what I said I was going to. I came to a beach tourist town..I returned here, was here for a bit, maybe a night ..Before heading to Homeworld."
Connie listened intently as he told her of the last two months. How he paid a visit to Homeworld, where he experienced a galactic jamboree. From the consensus it was surprisingly a lot of fun compared to the last ones; now that era 3 was in full effect. He also found out that the diamonds were thinking about sending gems to other planets as diplomatic representatives in hope to find other ways to expand their race and ranks without harming another.
He told the Diamonds, Spinel, and Volleyball the truth about his mother's feelings for them. How she regretted everything she did to them and loved them all until her last second, despite everything that transpired. Told them everything she did to herself in their name as well. It was a bittersweet conversation  but it did put some things in perspective.
He was on Homeworld a month before heading back to the beach city, to the temple, to his family. He was surprised to see all six gems and his father waiting, expecting him to come out of the warp stream. They all stood silently for what seemed like an eternity.
"I cried. I took a deep breath...I was going to say hi...Joke...Something...but I cried...We all cried."
Connie let use a chortle, wiping a tear herself. " Of course, you guys did. Not seeing each other for so long, seeing how everyone changed, must've been shocking. Wish I was there to see the reunion."
"If they hadn't ambushed me like that, you would've, I digress though.."
Steven continued his tale, speaking of his journeys across the earth, The same tales he told Connie. He was surprised at the changes of the gems.
Pearl was giving relationships a chance with Sabina. Amethyst really took over as Little homeschool headmaster and even got Jasper in her staff, as a teacher in motivation. That made Steven pause for a moment, but he accepted it. Garnet was the vice headmaster of little Homeworld. Peridot, along with Bismuth, Pearl and Connie made little homeworld R&D, with Bismuth and Pearl acting as directors, as Peri still had her gardening classes to attend to and Connie had college.  Lapis took her art online and got exposure for some of their meep-morps. Lapis was on her way to becoming famous and Greg is managing her. Bismuth took her forging online and now has a following of 10 mill on tubetube. As for Greg,he was still his dear old dad...Just a little grayer.
After catching up, Steven sat them down in the living room before telling them about Rose quartz, and unlike with the diamonds and Spinel, he told them everything. Her travels, her self-hatred,  Sheva, the self-poofing...Everything.
"We've put a smaller version of her picture back on the living room desk. It's progress."
"I take it, they were reeling from the revelation."
Steven nodded. "Garnet split to hold each other, Lapis and Peri consoled Bismuth, Dad and Pearl had each other."
"And Amethyst?"
"Amethyst...Actually took it well, better than anyone else."
Connie features softened at the prideful look on his face.
"She took me to the side and asked me how I'm handling it. I told her that I was fine..Which I was and am..I came to terms with what she was and dealt with…How she dealt with them.."
His eyes glistened a bit as he held his head down thinking about Rose and how similar he was to her.
"We had a nice one-on-one...Talked about how I was going down a similar path as mom. Starting to hate myself for not being needed, or able to help people...You know, things I told you."
Connie nodded as she recalled one of their first dreams together. She remembered holding him as tearfully told her how he started to feel unfulfilled and useless again. After everything he went through to get better even seeing a therapist. He still felt the need to get away from everyone and everything related to the Crystal gems. He felt like he still needed to find himself..These were the reasons he left.
“After that..Amethyst asked when did I talk to you about this."
Connie eyes widened at the statement, trying to hide her shock through a smirk. " What?"
"She just figured it out. Said that I had a certain calmness and maturity, about everything. Said the only time I am like that is when I talk to you and mulled it over."
He took her hands in his and gave them a kiss. Connie squeezed them back.
"What did you tell her?"
"The truth...No need to keep it hidden…"
" Oh..And what truth is that?"
Connie smirked as he felt his lips upon hers, his thumbs massaging the back of her hands. His smell invigorating her senses… He broke the kiss but didn't pull away, nuzzling behind her ear giving her small nips.
" Said I've been visiting my girl twice a month, for the last year."
"Hmm.. Except for the last two."
As Steven pulled away ready to apologize to Connie, when she placed her index on his lips, shaking her head as she did.
"Don't...You did nothing wrong. If anything, I should apologize...I wanted you to feel a bit bad for not contacting me, that's not how you treat your partner."
"Your partner, huh?"
"I mean.."
Her bashful side glance made him snort, which in turn made her cheeks flamed. "If you'd have me."
With amusement, Steven caressed her left cheek before drawing close. Nose tips touched as he looked into her deep black eyes.
"Obviously. I am still under the assumption that today is our anniversary, as well as your birthday. Am I…"
"No!" Connie let a little stifled laugh at Steven's surprised face. Her heart was pounding against her chest, she found it hard to look at his eyes..she felt anxious, excited, and scared. "No. You're not wrong…I..I also thought of us as a couple since then...Though we never defined it, exactly."
"Dream-buds"
She smiled as she nuzzled into the stroking palm, kissing it. The moonlit ocean giving her eyes an fantastical glow. "We're not in a dream now, Dreamscuit."
His face turned pink and not from his gem. "And yet you're still calling me that.”
“Of course...You’re my Biscuit and a big piece of my dream for the future. Besides, you called me Dream Berry. Why is that?”
Steven licked his lips before letting his his hands rest on her hips and pulling her close...Trying to ignore how thin her nightwear was. She tilted her head slightly to the right as she saw a passionate light in his cool, almond eyes.
“You know why..It’s the same reason as you to me.”
Connnie gave a teasing grin, before tracing his cheek and jaw. She kissed him lovingly, passionately, heartfully. Her loneliness and heartache over the two months, her regret and penance over doubting him for even a moment. Her swelling pride and carnal hunger for him, Her thankfulness and graciousness over his safe return. Her happiness and undaunting love for him. It was all displayed, all revealed to him in that kiss.
Her kiss tenderness left him awe-struck, the depth; weak, the emotion; speechless. The touch left him trembling. His heart swelled and burst as he held her close by her back returning the kiss...The emotions  He felt rejuvenated, reborned, truly reformed .He felt as he truly returned home.
They broke the kiss, laughing with tears in their eyes. Words lost them as they wiped each other's eyes and gave each other chatse kisses.. It was a few moments before they relaxed, opting to hold each close.
“I love you.”
Both their eyes widened at the dual confession, neither expecting it from the other first. Connie broke out of the stupor first, tackling him down to lay upon him. Her head on his chest  ear to heart.
“You are home with us, with me. After so long. It’s real…In the present.”
Steven held her close, left hand stroking her head, right arm around her waist. “Yeah..I’m finally home..Finally where I want to be.”
As he gaze down at her receiving a small yet illuminating grin. He couldn’t help but think that both their present and future never looked so brighter.

Winx Club season 8/26
In which we get one last surprise retcon.
26 Written in the Stars
Recap says the last prime star is the “star of brotherly love.”  Were the other stars “of” things?  I totally missed that.
Valtor’s asteroid!  ...wait, what’s this?  Valtor is having a chat with a bunch of unforeshadowed Shadowy Figures he calls “my brothers of the darkness dimension.”  Valtor gathered the prime stars to free them and they’re getting impatient.
Gee, this series already dropped one big fat surprise motive, I was not expecting another one in the very last episode!
So Valtor wants to be a powerful sorcerer so he can unseal the darkness dimension and free his buddies.  Whaaaaaat even is this?  Valtor’s not from some weird dimension, he was created by the Three Ancestors!  His backstory is what made him cool, and “buddies in the dark dimension’ is so uninspired!
Season 8, whaddaya doing to me?  -_-
Alfea at sunrise! they’re squeezing the best gorgeous Alfea shots out of their software for this last episode and I am here for it.  Upgraded Alfea is just the greatest.
Kiko rocks on with headphones.  The Trix walk in behind him.  How did they get iiiiiin?! Into the Winx common room, past the school barrier and all the students and teachers.
Kiko sees the Trix and freaks out.  Icy knows the bunny’s name, which is kinda sweet. Knowing your enemies’ pets!  Kiko pelts the Trix with apples from an apparently infinite fruit bowl.  The Winx wake up and find witches dodging apples.
Badass Bloom: “I don’t know how you got here, but I know how you’re gonna leave!”
The Trix turn out to be Stella, Flora and Aisha transformed.  Not bad, writers. Professor Wizgiz made the spell for them for Bloom’s plan to get into Valtor’s asteroid.  Flora says it’ll be dangerous and Aisha sounds kind of fed up when she says, ‘Ok, Flora, but don’t worry too much.”
Bloom’s phone rings, it’s Sky with a be-careful call.
The star box poofs in.  “The goal of your venture will not slip away, but listen carefully to what I’m going to say...”  I assume she’s telling them where Valtor’s asteroid is.  The Wishing Star would know, and I don’t see how else the Winx would.
We cut to the real Trix walking down a dark blue and purple corridor.  Icy is keen to challenge Valtor, she thinks their prime star will give them enough of an advantage.  Darcy and Stormy are not so confidant.  Stormy sensibly suggests they just take their freedom and clear out.
Icy: ‘because right now we’re standing on the needle of a scale.  A scale that will tip in our favor when we take Valtor’s three stars.  We’ll have the power of the wishing star all to ourselves.”  Icy wants to break the spell on Sapphire.  Stormy wants them to be undisputed queens of the magic universe.  Darcy’s dream is to “overturn the law of nature itself.  A world of illusion, can you imagine?”  Ok, they’ll try attacking Valtor with Icy.
Wow, and Icy says, ‘If things go bad, run, and leave me to my fate.”  so Icy is putting it on the line not just for Sapphire but for Darcy and Stormy, which is remarkably honorable, for Icy.  They hug, and it’s sweet.  Then they enter the throne room!
Valtor’s just done chatting with his shadow buddies I guess.  Icy starts to say something, I think she’s going to bluff that they couldn’t get the star, when the room shakes and rocks fall from the ceiling. Thunder.
Stormy: ‘don’t look at me, I didn’t do it.”  Heh.  Valtor orders the Trix outside to check it out.
Outside, it’s Bloom,  Tec and Musa who’s hitting the building with “sonic shake” I think meant to draw their enemies out.  And it worked!
The Trix are happy to have a fight, even though this would be the perfect time for Icy to do a little “enemy of my enemy” stuff.  But the Trix just like fighting the Winx I guess.  It’s their hobby.
Inside, fake-Trix walk along the corridor and Aisha-as-darcy nearly falls over because her shoes are too tight.  it’s an illusion spell, why are you wearing Trix shoes?  Flora suggests they fly instead.
Fake-trix sneak into the throne room.  Valtor is back to taking to his shadow buddies and he explains his whole plan before turning and seeing the fake-Trix.  Stella is kinda hilarious doing the whole, ‘prime star? Oh, um, didn’t you have it?” thing as Icy.  She says it might be in her pocket and Valtor reminds them they have no pockets.  Pffffft. Seriously, Valtor is dumb as a doorknob not to realize.
The real Trix and Bloom bust in through the roof and Valtor is momentarily confused before the Winx all turn back into themselves.
Valtor demands the star from Icy.  Stella says, ‘don’t give it to him!” and spills Valtor’s plan to release his shadow buddies.  Valtor tries activating his mark on the Trix but surprise, it’s gone!
Bloom does a little speech about “if you give it to Valtor it will be the end of everything, the magic universe will cease to exist, is that really whet you want?”  and “On Dyamond I realized there is love in you.”  Bloom doesn’t know about Sapphire, remember, she just knows Icy likes cute baby animals.
Valtor blasts Bloom and reminds Icy that the Winx are their worst enemies and that they’ll be rich and powerful beyond imagining if they help him out! Then he blasts Bloom again, but she shields herself, lights up, and says, “In your heart you know there’s only one thing to do.”
But Valtor evil-lights up.
The Winx and Trix know a bad thing when they see it and fly away.
The whole castle busts open and there’s a gargoyle with Valtor’s mark across its chest.  It doesn’t look or sound like Valtor at all, but I guess that’s him.  Giant gargoyle goes after the Winx.  It throws blast after blast of dark magic at them and the girls raise their shields. Rainbow put in a little detail, Tec’s is green and techy, Aisha’s is morphix.  But they can’t hold out for too long.
Here come the Specialists in their ship!  It flies back and forth distracting the gargoyle.
Back on the asteroid, Darcy and Stormy want to skip town, leave the Winx to deal with the giant monster.  But Icy does not want the magic universe destroyed!  Darcy and stormy plead with her, Let’s just save ourselves!”
Flashback to Princess Icy on the overlook, vowing to save her sister.  Young Icy raises glowing hands to her hair, smoothing the yellow frizz into sleek silver, and conjuring the tall thingy Icy uses to hold up her ponytail.  “So, sis… Icy.”  Like she’s embracing the darker possibilities of her name.
Present time Icy: ‘I watched a world crumble before.  I won’t let it happen again. we’ll face this threat!”  The other two go with her.
Valtor at first thinks they’re on his side, but then Icy gives the star to Bloom! She puts it in the star case and the other three fly out of the castle and go into the case as well.  We fade into magc-space and the Wishing Star gets herself back together!
“Yes Winx, you’ve achieved your goal, and I am free.  To make your greatest dream a reality.”
Stella’s stoked. Wishes!  But the others realize they have to ask for something that’s good for everybody.  Bloom knows what they should wish for!
Bloom: “Our wish is to be able to protect the magic universe.  We want to preserve it in harmony, now and forever.”
The star: ‘so be it, Winx.  My brave and generous fairies of light.”
The star sends her light to the Winx and they all glow golden.
Valtor gargoyle tells the Trix this is all their fault.
But before he can bring the violence the glowy Winx all blast him and he is swallowed up in light.  The asteroid disappears, leaving empty space. In the spaceship, Sky cheers.
The Trix realize there’s nothing else for them here, and head off to their next scheme.  Before she does, Icy and Bloom look at each other and share a moment of understanding.
Ok, I think that was a dumb wish.  The Winx protect the magic dimension already!  If you get a wish, you should save it for something you can’t accomplish with the powers you already have!  Maybe they couldn’t have defeated Valtor without lighting up, but they defeated him last time without star power.  I  would’ve liked it better if the Winx had been zapping and then the Trix had to join in to defeat Valtor, or some other use of having three sides in this fight.
I’m also so sure that Bloom would have used the wish to save Dyamond if she’d heard the story about Icy’s sister.  Bloom’s a softie anyway, and she literally suffered the same thing herself.  They could’ve used the wish without powering Icy up further… sigh. it’s such a weird skipping of such an obvious plot.
The Wishing star flies off, and we see her pass the star ship Purripla.  The nautical lumens are happy.  The star visits the cave lumens, unilumens, surf lumens, and then we see Twinkle fly into the throne room on Lumenia. ‘The Winx have won, my queen!  The Wishing Star is back!”  Time for a party on Lumenia, but Twinkle is more interested in the one at Alfea.
Where they’re having a concert, of course.  This song’s a bit livelier than some. The minor fairies, the boys, teachers and Knut, a couple of lumens, and Twinkle and Lumilla are there.  They are my OTP!  I scan the crowd for Orion, but he doesn’t seem to have made it.
In the sky the Wishing Star zooms past, drawing a W between six stars.  It’s the Winx constellation!
And that’s season 8!
But you’re not getting out of here without more ponderings!
It occurs to me that the Winx know—or at least Bloom thinks she knows—that Icy is capable of love, but they know nothing about what the white fox really is.  In the real world where things don’t end after 26 episodes the next thing Bloom would want to do is go back to Dyamond and figure everything out.  Making Icy stop being a threat to the magic dimension would be a huge win.  Although… Icy has spent ten-ish years doing really awful things, she’s not a good person. She’s a terrible person who loves her sister, and if Sapphire regained human form Icy would be… still a terrible person, just one with a human sister.  it’s hard to imagine Icy just returning to being princess of Dyamond and doing a good job.  Or even enjoying it.
I do wonder if we’ll see Sapphire again.  I guessed this is setup for movie 4, it could also be setup for season 9 or it could just disappear like the fairy animals from season 7 just disappeared.
Some thoughts:
The art bugged me less than I thought it would, I honestly stopped noticing after a few episodes.  Even the boys… still looked weird, but my brain didn’t remind me loudly just how weird they look.
Musa/Riven, why must you be so bad as to force me to take a side in a fandom I don’t want to take sides in? -_-
Liked seeing Knut and the Alfea teachers again, and I’m glad they took the time to bring the minor fairies along to the new art style.  Of course it was all made very confusing since some parts of the world seem to have gone back in time and others don’t.  Mielle looked much younger but was described as being still a teenager.
All in all, I liked this season!  I will have at least one more post of afterthoughts, and maybe a deep-dive into Icy’s past.  The official Winx youtube channel has a video about it that I haven’t watched since I didn’t want to spoil myself.  We’ll see.  Depending on just how unemployed I turn out to be and how hard I’m working on my fanfics, I may have plenty of time to write about Winx!

Catch a Wave | Jeno
summary: baby go catch some rays on the sunny surf, and when you catch a wave you'll be sittin on top of the world words: 2.3k category: fluff, surfer!jeno, this is rlly soft i'll warn you now a/n: i had to look up celsius degrees for this story
Tumblr media
Of all the ways you can think of spending your summer, it certainly isn't chauffeuring your younger cousin around Salos while she visits. Of course, her parents are paying you a decent sum for doing it — after all, you are giving up a month of your summer — but you can't tell if listening to her chatter twenty-four seven is really worth it.
Liv, at fourteen years old, is certainly the more outgoing of you two. She's already found a few locals her age to hang out with. Unfortunately, you still have to be there, chaperoning lamely while three girls chat about how hot the resort's lifeguard — Na Jaemin, your former classmate —  is.
You've decided awhile ago not to tell them that you've seen the same lifeguard passing secret kisses to someone under the pier. It was better to let them run their boy-crazy fantasies.
Besides, Jaemin was certainly not the only boy whose charm the girls have fallen for. They'd already gushed about Jisung, the cute and awkward biker that hangs out at the lemonade shop. Or Mark, the handsome yet completely awkward skater who always seems to be at the boardwalk.
But most importantly, they like Jeno, who offers surfing lessons at the university's private beach. They gush about him the most: the way his dark hair looks soft despite it's constant exposure to the salt water, the way his skin darkens under the hot sun, the way he speaks gently to everyone he had lessons with, encouraging them to do their best.
"Not to mention," Liv had interrupted one day, "he has abs. I mean, it's like a whole four-pack."
"Really?" you replied, turning a page of your mystery novel. "That's interesting."
"Apparently he's had, like, seven girlfriends this summer. He's like the island's bad boy."
You don't want to invalidate her most likely well-researched conclusions, but Lee Jeno as a bad boy? The boy who feeds stray cats on his way to school and gets flustered when people bring up his talent for surfing? The boy who attends shark rallies to fight against the stigma that all sharks are harmful? The boy who cuts plastic drink holders so dolphins won't get their snouts stuck? The boy who cleans the beach in his spare time? The boy who won't eat or drink from anything unless it can be recycled?
Mr. Reduce Reuse and Recycle as the island's bad boy?
"Oh?" you muse, holding in a giggle. You put your book down, because somehow the small girl in front of you is much more interesting than a murder house mystery. "Are you going to be his eighth girlfriend?"
Liv sticks her nose in the air. "I'm going to try."
"How are you going to do that? Follow him around the island?"
"No, I've convinced Dad to get me weekday surfing lessons, as long as you'll lend me your board."
Part of you laments yet another part of your day spent as a babysitter. The other part, however, thinks this is a show you certainly wouldn't want to miss.
Liv's first lesson is the following morning, and she dresses in her matching bikini and rash guard, which looks quite adorable on her. She gets you to braid her hair, then somehow charms you into buying her an iced coffee.
Your only conclusion as to why she'd bring an iced coffee to a surfing lesson is that she thinks it'll make her look cool. Though, you're positive that the only way Jeno would only think coffee was cool is if it were in a biodegradable cup.
When you reach the small section of the beach where the lessons are, you spot a few other kids and teenagers trying their hand at the sport. Some are still practicing their wading ashore, while others are already riding waves.
You wish you were out there. The water looks especially welcoming today, and not to mention the sun is beating down at a sweltering thirty-nine degrees Celsius. Even just sticking your toes in the water would perhaps cure your desire to swim.
You don't want to complain. After all, Jeno does these lessons daily, and probably doesn't get to surf as much as he'd like. At least you'll get two months of summer to yourself when Liv is gone. Jeno is in this never ending loop of kids who watched Teen Beach Movie and think they're the next Tanner Danger.
Speaking of Jeno, he's a few yards away, eyes trained on a young boy who seems to be struggling to catch a wave. He looks deep in concentration, so much so that you pull Liv back from disrupting him.
This gives you a chance to study Jeno. Though you've seen him around school, this was quite possibly the first time you've truly noticed him.
He's wearing a black wetsuit, but it's unzipped halfway, so that the torso part hangs off his waist. His bare skin is paler than Liv described, almost as if it didn't quite know how to absorb the rays. Your eyes catch on his soft smile that grows inch by inch as the boy in the ocean finally manages to catch a wave. Jeno is suddenly whooping with joy, his toned arms rise high above his head as he shouts praises towards the boy.
Soon the boy is back on shore, surfboard tucked under his arm and a triumphant smile on his face. "I didn't eat sand this time!"
"You didn't!" Jeno shouts, wrapping an arm around the boy's neck and ruffling his hair affectionately. "I'm proud of you!"
The moment seems raw to you, and with heat creeping up your neck, you glance away. Sometimes there are exchanges you feel like you aren't meant to see, where people are far too vulnerable to be watched. This feels like one of these moments.
Trust Liv to not give a rip.
She grabs your wrist and pulls you down the beach until you're right in front of Jeno, staring at his surprised expression with a baffled one of your own.
"Y/n?" His voice is soft and baritone, and there's a surprised lilt in the back of his throat that makes you curious.
Your eyes drift to his beaded necklace, one you remember from his "save the sea turtles" campaign he started at school. The small turtle charm wetted from wood was a good thing to focus on when Jeno's eyes felt too intense. "Hi, Jeno. This is my cousin, Liv. She's here for surfing lessons."
"Oh!" Jeno brightens. He turns to Liv and greets her with an exciting smile. "Have your parents signed the consent forms?"
"Yeah," Liv bats her eyelashes at him and hands him the form. She makes sure to brush her fingers against his, which is a power move you're sure you would never have the courage to do.
Jeno reads over the form and gets Liv on a surfboard in no time, leaving you to mess around on your phone for an hour.
"Wouldn't you like to surf with us?" It's Liv's fourteenth lesson, but she isn't the one inviting you. Instead, it's Jeno, with wet hair that curls over his eyes and a smile that could rival the sun.
Your eyes drift from his face to the ocean, where Liv is with another surfing instructor. Jeno's on his break, and he's taken to sitting with you during lunch. A half-eaten apple rests in his palm, turning brown from the oxygen. He takes lazy bites as he waits for your answer.
"Liv has my surfboard," you say. You turn off your phone and set it on your thigh, turning your full attention to the handsome boy beside you.
"How long have you surfed?"
You hum, "A few years. More for recreation than anything."
"Me too. I love it, but it's not my end goal." He turns to you with a shy smile, "I want to be a conservationist."
"Aren't you already?" You think of all the times he's advocated for the ocean and what lives in it. All the parties he passed up because he had to go clean up the beach.
Hues of pink spread across his shoulders and neck. "Ah," he rubs the back of his neck, "Thank you, but there's always ways to improve. I want to work on protecting sea turtles, and figure out ways to lessen pollution."
There's a certain feeling of pride one gets by listening to someone voice their passions. Like a wave — no pun intended — of love and hope that soars over your head and settles somewhere in the depths of your heart. That's what it feels like listening to him. That's what makes you fall in love.
Your revelation is stilted by Liv's loud cheers. She's finally caught a wave, and you're sure she's going to talk your ear off as soon as her feet hit the sand.
"You're off tomorrow, right?" you ask Jeno on impulse.
The sun makes the crown of his head seem to glow as he peeks up at you, palm over his brows to shield him from the sun. "Yeah, why?"
You feel nervous all of a sudden. "Maybe we could surf tomorrow morning? I heard the waves will be really good. Or if you're tired of surfing, we could get shaved ice. Or if you don't want to hang out with me at all—"
"Y/n," Jeno says, and the way he says it is gentle; kind. "I would love to hang out with you tomorrow. Meet me here at eight?"
"Yeah," you breathe, "okay."
"Good. It's a date."
It's midday, and both you and Jeno are sitting astride your surfboards.
Jeno's board is covered with a strip of azure blue in the middle, and stenciled sea turtles patterned with white hibiscus flowers. It's beautiful, much like the boy who owns it.
You can't help but think Jeno deserves the most beautiful board on the island. And with the way the afternoon sun casts beams of light onto his face, spotlighting his straight nose and relaxed smile. When he cranes his neck and basks in the direct warmth, you feel as if you've caught yourself an angel.
Not that he is yours in any way, but just the fact that he's chosen to spend the day with you makes your mind churn with the possibility of something more.
As if he hears your thoughts, he turns to you with a curious gaze. "Would you like to get some shaved ice with me? My friend can get us a discount and I could walk you home while we dry off..?"
The more he talks, the redder your complexion becomes. Your heartbeat quickens, and you nearly forget to agree before you lay on your stomach and began paddling for shore. "Last one to the beach has to pay!"
"No fair! You got a head start!"
Despite his protests, Jeno makes it to the beach first. He pushes his bangs off of his face and holds his hand out for you to take.
His hand feels warm in yours. His palm is slightly calloused, but the way his thumb automatically brushes across your knuckles distracts you before you can mention it.
There's a small wooden cart parked on the beach, close to one of the boardwalk entrances. White paint peels off of the weather-ridden wood, but it's hardly noticeable when there's a giant rainbow umbrella over the entire thing. In chipped red paint, the cart reads "Rainbow Ice", and the fact that you can see the colored syrup bottles form a rainbow makes you think someone couldn't work here and ever be unhappy.
And you are right, because Chenle is perhaps the cheeriest boy you've ever met in your life. He doesn't just give you and Jeno a discount, he gives you free cones and pumps extra syrup onto each. You both get cherry, but Jeno mixes his with lemon syrup.
Then Jeno is walking you home, not holding your hand anymore since he needs both of his to eat his ice. But you're bumping shoulders with him every few steps, and neither of you seem to be complaining about the small shock of joy that runs through you every time your skin meets his.
Then you're both rounding the corner to your house, cones of ice forgotten and left in your neighbor's trash can.
Jeno stops, and so do you. "Y/n, I like you." He blurts it out, most ungracefully and very nearly comedic, like choking on a chunk of ice.
"Do you now?" You're giggling, and from humor or joy you aren't sure, but all you can do is laugh.
Jeno's bottom lip is tucked between his teeth. "Just let me know whether you like me back or not," he whines.
Your fingers are still sticky with cherry syrup, but neither you or Jeno seem to care very much as you cup his jaw and bring your lips up to meet him. His lips are soft, sweet and sour and oh so addicting, and you can't help but feel a small itch near your stomach when he lets out a deep sigh.
He walks back to the beach, mostly to collect both your surfboards from where he made Chenle hold them. You'd get yours in just a bit, after you changed and ate a proper lunch.
Liv stares at you as soon as you walk into the house, shivering from the influx of cold air. "What?"
"Was that Jeno? Did he come to see me?" she squeals, ignoring your denial to text her friends.
You bound up the stairs with a smile painted over your cherry-stained lips.
If only she knew.

The Story of the Wayfinder and the Ocean Dragon
Day Five of OCWatch 2017, Theme A: Story
Ever since she became one of the best doctors of her field, Angela Ziegler was able to proudly and truthfully claim that she had not been sick in years. With help from both her suit, and her skills, she knew all too well how to guard herself from illness. Hell, Angela knew the triggers to the point she could even prevent the early onset signs of an ailment.
So imagine her frustration at falling victim to the common cold.
Though the brunette would never say it aloud, Nikolai actually thought a sick Angela was kind of cute. The way she was almost perpetually pouting, and how the pout only got fiercer in the wake of a sneeze or two. The way the blonde tried to growl in irritation after she blew her nose, only to upset her throat and cough. But most of all, the way she would curl up in a fluffy blanket on the couch as she watched something on the TV.
It was kind of precious, and Nikolai was for once thankful that Overwatch was disbanded, and that their missions nowadays were off-grid and unofficial. For that meant not having to ask Morrison for permission to take sick leave, but instead just outright tell him: “Don’t even try calling Angela in, Morrison. She’s sick, I’m taking care of her, so just fuck off and call someone else in.”
Now that was a satisfying call, so much so Nikolai’s usual anxiety against them was nullified.
Though there wasn’t much one could do to alleviate a cold—other than take medicine, vitamin C rich supplements, and various other healthy additions—there was one special thing Nikolai liked to do when Angela wasn’t feeling up to snuff. Before Talon’s attempt at ruining Nikolai’s life, she’d once been an excellent storyteller who dreamt of publishing her own writings. But not even their tries at breaking her succeeded in killing the storyteller, not in the slightest.
So it was that on a day where Angela seemed like she lost her fight, and was almost pathetically lying on the couch, that Nikolai decided to make her move. She walked up to the couch, glancing down at her poor anjo before glancing up at the TV. It was playing a rerun of something she didn’t recognize, and the brunette got the feeling Angela was only watching it out of last resort. Without a shred of hesitation, Nikolai waved her hand, bringing up the control panel for the television, and shutting it off.
The moment Angela registered seeing herself in a black screen instead of the show that’d previously been playing, she scowled. “Nikolai! I was watching that.”
Nikolai smirked and shook her head. “No, you weren’t. You were just trying to distract yourself from your cold as much as possible, rather than think about it and get upset again.”
An annoyed huff sounded as the blonde tried to hide deeper in the blanket, and Nikolai’s smirk turned into a soft smile as she looked down at Angela. She turned towards the couch and leaned down, reaching with two arms to pry her girlfriend off and up. At first there was resistance, but it quickly faded and Nikolai managed to sit down, letting Angela lay on her lap instead. As the brunette expected, Angela immediately hummed in content, snuggling just a bit out of the blanket and closer to her girlfriend.
Nikolai gently ran her fingers through soft blonde hair, inciting another content hum. “Meu anjo, would you like to hear a story?”
Angela responded instantly, turning around to face Nikolai whilst still laying on her lap, and nuzzled against her as she nodded as vigorously as her congested head would comfortably allow.
Nikolai smiled, waiting a beat to think of what to tell before beginning.
A long, long time ago, before all of mankind mastered crossing the seas and going to other lands, there was a people in the Pacific who’d done it before anyone else. They called themselves Wayfinders, and they were as at home on the open ocean as they were on land, if not more so. They travelled from island to island, inventing means of navigating the ocean that were not only highly effective, but so unique it quickly became a part of their culture.
The Water loved them dearly, always watching them as they crossed it with joy, getting just as excited when they found a new island as the Wayfinders did. The Water had a close relationship with the Mother of Islands, and they both dearly cherished the Wayfinders; one making more islands for them to find, while the other watched and shepherded them on their path. It was a beautiful dynamic that lasted for a thousand years.
One day, on one of the islands, a Wayfinder village was enjoying a bright, sunny morning. The chieftain of this particular group had a daughter, a young girl barely two years old. This little, innocent warrior, loved the ocean very much despite being so young. On this particular day, her parents were distracted and she wandered away, heading straight for the beach.
Angela lifted her head up, brow furrowed in concern. “On her own? Isn’t that dangerous, being so little?”
Nikolai gave her a crooked smile and shook her head. “Hold your horses, Angie; this is a happy story to make you feel better, don’t go running down paths without me now.”
The blonde blushed and buried her face back in the blanket, nodding for Nikolai to continue.
The little toddler waddled straight for the water line, stopping at where the tide tickled the sand. She stood there, smiling at the water and giggling at it, when she noticed there was a bright and colorful shell sitting just within reach. The little girl squealed with delight, and she made to retrieve the shell. But the loud, predatory caw of an ocean bird stopped her in her tracks, drawing her attention back to the treeline.
There, hiding in the bushes as several birds stalked it from the air, was a baby turtle that had no doubt just hatched not long ago. The poor thing cowered in the bushes, for every time it bravely lifted a flipper to make its way to the water, it would immediately pull back as a bird threatened it.
Nikolai felt Angela stiffen in her lap, in spite of her previous reassurances, and soothingly rubbed her shoulder.
The little girl saw this, and for one so young found herself in a dilemma as she glanced back at the colorful shell. It was just sitting there, and before long a wave would come from the surf and steal it away. But with a defiant little sound, the toddler turned away from the shell and waddled her way to the treeline. There, she used all her toddler strength to tear off a tree’s frond, and used it to shield the baby sea turtle from sun and bird as she guided it to the surf. The birds tried their best to take the baby turtle for themselves regardless, but the toddler had a warrior’s heart and defended the other little one valiantly.
The most adorable of war cries sounding as one bird got far too close, nearly succeeding in taking the turtle, only to drop it at the little girl’s threat. The poor turtle found itself stuck on its back after the skirmish, but the little warrior wasted no time in gently helping it back onto its flippers. The rest of the escort went comparatively quietly, as little girl and little turtle made it to the surf. As the sea turtle joyfully swam its way out, the little girl watched with a smile and a giggle, proud of herself and the little turtle.
Angela sighed happily, but when she opened her mouth to thank Nikolai for the story, the brunette cut her off by ruffling her bangs.
“Not done yet, meu anjo.”
Many years later, when the innocent warrior was a grown young woman of sixteen, she found herself in a perilous predicament.
While out wayfinding on her own, a sudden storm appeared in her path, leaving her with no time to go around. The storm was cruel and merciless, dropping soaking sheets of rain, tossing blinding lances of lightning, and letting loose deafening blasts of thunder. The Water, as much as it loathed harming the Wayfinders, found its waves roiling in the storm’s influence, tossing the young woman’s boat around.
It took all of her strength to keep her canoe upright in the face of the storm’s wrath, but as if she was targeted by a foul-mooded deity, it was for naught. A great wave struck her and her boat, turning it on its head and leaving her gasping for breath alongside it. Yet another ruthless wave struck, and the girl was beneath the waves and sinking to her death.
“Nikole...” Angela gave her girlfriend a fierce pout, but Nikolai’s smile did not falter as she continued unhindered.
The young girl fought, but could not keep the black at bay, and found herself passing out in the Water’s embrace. But the Water didn’t want her to die, especially not in its own arms like this. It refused to let one of its favored drown in such a lonely, tragic storm. So it summoned the only thing it could think to summon to save the innocent warrior.
Rising from the deep, faster than a shark, was a large turtle-like leviathan that made straight for the sinking form of the young woman. It opened its great beak, revealing a fearsome reptilian maw. The teeth of this maw retracted into the gums, and the beast gently grabbed the girl in its now gummy mouth. As quickly as it could without causing harm to the young woman, the leviathan made for the surface.
Once there, it slipped the girl into its enormous, spiky shell, for unlike sea turtles it had plenty of wiggle room within.
What felt but moments later for the girl, but turned out to be several minutes, she awoke to find herself in a cave. It was clearly a cave along a beach, for bright sunlight was visible outside, and where there was not rock outcropping, there was startlingly clear turquoise water. The young woman thought herself dead, for she had just been in the depths of the ocean drowning not long ago.
Then she heard an insistent growl, so deep she thought it was moving rocks. She turned and immediately gasped, for behind her sat the beast whom was her rescuer. The young woman recognized it as an ocean dragon, one that strikingly resembled a turtle, and behind it she even spotted its currently empty shell. The beast lowered its head down to her, regarding her intensely, and out of curiousity than anything she returned its gaze.
Then the dragon smiled, the hair like spikes on its head rustling as if it was excited. At first, the young woman was confused, until the dragon began lifting its arms like a turtle crawling along the sand. The fact that the dragon’s arms had large fins coming off, looking just like a sea turtles, helped.
Then it hit her, so suddenly she didn’t even have the air to gasp.
Before her was the once baby sea turtle she’d rescued as a toddler, the creature having apparently been blessed by the gods to be a dragon since last they’d met.
The dragon smiled at her, and she smiled back.
The innocent warriors had found each other once again, and the Water couldn’t have been more glad.
Angela hummed happily, but a sleep undertone was very apparent to Nikolai as she looked down at her now drowsy girlfriend.
“That was...” The blonde interrupted herself with a yawn. “That was a lovely story, mein drachen...”
Nikolai smiled and stroked Angela’s hair, inciting another happy hum. “De nada, meu anjo. Now rest, you know you need it.”
Though she didn’t necessarily object, the blonde frowned up at her girlfriend...with still closed eyes. “Do you need up, first...?”
The brunette chuckled, rubbing Angela’s back as well. “No, I’m fine right here. You’re already comfortable, and I can just watch reruns if I should get bored. But you need to nap.”
Angela hummed once more, this one lasting long until she had clearly fallen asleep. Nikolai just smiled down at her angel, feeling very proud of herself.

9 Things You Need to Know Before Paddleboarding with Your Child
9 Things You Need to Know Before Paddleboarding with Your Child
Due to the tremendous rise in appeal that stand up paddleboarding (SUP) has experienced over the past numerous years, more families than ever before are paddling out together and also making long-lasting memories.
