It was time for the annual Valentine’s day, the celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the thousand seas. At the end of the banquet, the Straw Hat captain had mysteriously said that his present was left to the kitchen so he headed there. He stayed here for a while so obviously it was weird like he was preparing for something bigger. Curiosity must’ve woken up.

Once entering the kitchen’s threshold, one could immediately pay attention that there were a few candles giving warmth and light, a wine bottle was waiting to be poured and no one else in the room. Somewhere outside, Brook was playing a smooth tune with his violin as the sun was slowly setting down. It almost felt like everything was perfectly planned, pretty hard to believe from a guy who is basically a kid from the heart? But what if he had grown on these past years and starts to show maturity and interest in romance?

In this cozy room, their eyes met once he noticed that the door was opened. He waved friendly and asked to close her eyes with a smirk on his face. One could hear his flip flops coming closer slowly. Then out of nowhere and unexpected, he gave her a kiss, then another. Those famous bite-sized, flat-bottomed, conical-shaped pieces of chocolates, a bag of these treats.

“Happy Friend’s day~!” he said and chuckled and then went outside from the door, searching for the rest of his crew since he had bought a bag for each of them. As expected, he really had not planned any romantic, this just accidentally seemed like one of those scenes that could’ve been read from sweet novels.

Actually, it was all just a funny coincidence since that wine bottle just happened to be left from their banquet and the candles were also left from the party. Luffy wasn’t even in the kitchen alone the whole time. While he was looking for the lost presents he had hidden (and forgot their location), Sanji had carried the dishes back and just happened to be outside cleaning with the others at that moment when Nami went to check the kitchen.

//First of all, sorry that the reply got delayed, the week has been pretty hectic and it was hard to pick the songs but now a couple of days offs ahead so time to Tumblr around xD! Ok, let’s go~!

9: Three songs that describe me

Arms open by The Script

Arms open would fit anyone for sure but perhaps this song was chosen here and because it describes one of my personality traits, the will to help people in general. Conflicts are stressful so to avoid those, I try to compromise and bend and bend as far as possible and even if there was cloudy behind the scenes, I try to stay by my buddies’ side and I’ve told them many times “whenever you feel bad, text me or call me, if I can’t reply right away, I’ll catch you later”.

Shine by Kwan

Well, this song is somehow similar to the previous one because optimism is also one strong trait. Maybe this is even more #lifegoals. I mean, it’s really hard to read people or there mind and it’s extremely tricky to offer them the right tools to find the light at the end of their tunnel and this is something I face almost daily at work with the disabled youngsters. Some of them wrestle with their inner struggles and we try to help them.

So maybe this song pictures also my goal to see good in everyone. Of course, adulthood has forced me to see also the realities, I mean that at least at our work there are residents who are not feeling well and no matter how much we offer tools and helping hands, it’s hard to make them see the potential what they have but just like in civil life, I try to encourage people in all the ways I can and have resource to do that and try to find potential in everyone.

It’s obvious, that people have different kinds of way to describe the person they know. Funny enough, most of the acquaintances think I’m social and easygoing but just like with everyone else, there is more below the surface. Only the closest friends and my sister know that behind the smile and neverending optimism there is also a jar of insecurities, mostly due to the badly gone friendships in these past few years. Those unfortunate events released the old hounds that’s why this Irina’s song is still relatable (translated lyrics here [x]). Shortly translated and summed it up it’s about telling someone “Hey, here I am, letting my walls down but you might get disappointed because this is who I really and you are not a bad person if you go away but thank you for staying by my side”

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol

A big part of released songs ever are mostly interpreted and associated with romantic relationships and it’s kind of cheesy, in my opinion, because after all, romance is indeed a biological need, mostly but also a cultural thing and yes most people want families but also people who don’t want and want to live without “the better” part shouldn’t be trashed for their decisions.

I’m not sure if the previous rant had anything real to do but anyway, Chasing cars is a song at least for me is to appreciate those small moments between the hectic life when I can just sit down and enjoy the company of my friends or family. All in all, very soothing from the melody to the lyrics and gives some relaxing vibes no matter how busy or tense the situation would be.

Sinun vaikka hajoat by Happoradio

I think I’ve namedropped this song before but this is the very best from this band. Lyrics are pretty poetic and beautiful (translation here [x]). Shortly said, it’s about standing by someone else’s side no matter how big their struggles were, true friendship, love and brother/sisterhood!

Yuki No Hana by Mika Nakashima / 눈의 꽃 (Snow Flower) by Park Hyo Shin

It’s a shame that I don’t know many Asian dramas because they seem to have beautiful musical compositions as their theme songs. Well, once upon a time there was a series called I’m Sorry, I Love You which was probably the first Kdrama I remember I saw. It had Park Hyo Shin’s version (translated here [x] and I first fell in love with the melody so had to later google it around and found that it’s a korean version of Mika Nakashima’s song (translation here [x]) and after listening them for many times, all I can say is that they are both good and give goosebumps *thumbs up*

16: Three songs that I always laugh at

Dilbar Dilbar by Sirf Tum (buffalaxed version)

Being meme trash who laughs at weird shiet, the internet is full of randomness and probably good example of this is these so-called “Buffalaxed” videos that are basically foreign songs getting “English” lyrics based on imagination and so on xD

It seems like this “translation” trend was more popular thing about 10 years ago and then came youtube poops but anyway I remember watching this with my mates every IT classes we had in high school and although it not as funny as then it’s still amusing and full of nostalgia xD

The 7th Element by Vitas

This is probably the dankest meme song I’ve ever heard and truly a spirit lifter no matter how many times someone spams me with this xD What makes it even more hilarious is that I asked my friend who speaks Russian that does the part before that legendary Hahahaha blblblblbl-part mean anything and she said “I came here (to sing)” XD

Making my Mom Rap like Eminem! by Nigahiga

Following youtubers (not sure which is the right term but in Finnish we call them “tubettajat”) isn’t my thing because I’m very lazy, not just to follow but also to search great content funny animals are always exception and I really am annoyed how YT has changed throughout the years and for example, one reason I partly lost my interest to making amvs is that nowadays it’s hard to find audience and again the laziness is on the way to lure them back. In addition to that my old account got deleted and since the copyright thingies are strict, so I had to make a new channel [x] and in general, it’s just not that worthy I’m lazy to spend hours to make videos for a handful of views ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok, back to the main talk, Ryan Higa on one of the rarest Youtube accounts I check regularly. He has done lots of videos at approx. a decade and he definitely deserved to be the number 1 most subscribed channel. His sense of humor is amazing and how he makes the videos with his heart and he doesn’t need to overact or swear or disrespect others, unlike one certain channel that embarrassed whole America with that adventure of his that even reached the top page with scandalous click bait, just to get few views because he has natural talent to be a comedian and has an awesome gang to work with!

Even better is the fact that he is a king of puns and this song is undeniable the ultimate proof of that. Shortly said, he made his mom (who seemed to be precious person) “rap” a song. Higa deserves all the respect because like in his productions, this guy again made so much effort on this project and this song is definitely some good dang gold and everyone should see this at least once in their lives! *laughs*

- Juoksentelisinkohan? (=I wonder if I should run around aimlessly?)Never heard anyone say this but I think it’s very amusing word in general xD

- Lohikäärme = dragon Simply put so but if you write “lohi” and “käärme” separated, you get salmon and snake. In other words the translation could also be salmonsnake,kinda makes sense, kinda doesn’t *laughs*

- Pöpelikkö

= ThicketRarely used word for a forest/growth that is hard to walk through, maybe in spoken language means more like “in middle of nowhere” or at least that’s how I use that word ::D

I probably told this before but I’m not a bloodline finn, my biological roots are in China (but I’ve spent practically my whole life here so my soul is very suomi perkele saunaan ja torille xD). As imaginable, this causes awkward situations because people get misunderstood or assume things right away but well whoopsies happpen as long as no one makes a number about it, it’s all ok ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

9. which of your neighbouring countries would you like to visit most/know best?

10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?

Maybe the most heard sweard word is the finnish version of F-word [x]Frankly spoken I don’t like or use it because it’s like the C-word and dunno, sounds weird when people love to repeat loudly a word that literally means woman’s genitals :D Nah my favorite swearword is “Perkele” because when you are angry you can feel the power in the R-letter. But I actually use “Helvetti” (=hell) the most, no idea how it happened but anyway, if it’s not “PERRRKELE” then it’s “EI HELVETTI” *laughs* last time I swear like mad was when I had to assemble a furniture at work xD

12. what do you think about English translations

I have to admit I’m not familiar with translated literacy D: wait no I lied! I’ve read 2 Moomin books in english but don’t remember paying attention to the translation, only thing that was confusing first was the names in english because there wasn’t any expalanations to the names of the (random) side characters xD

13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?

We finns love icy waters but we have another tradition that is a dank meme. I mean TORILLE!! which basically means finns rush to the local market places if we win hockey championships or are good in any other sports. I think it’s a global jokebut yeah finns are trash for getting national recognision. Just mention us anywhere outside the borders and transmit that info to Finland and you can hear and see people hyping it like mad and I am not sure if other countries do this too in such extreme ways xD

14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV?

One thing that makes watching the finnish tv boring is that they literallt recycle the celebrities which means same faces in almost every fame teledrama or shows and practically everywhere you go or channel surf, you’ll see them and then even tabloids need to write nonstop about their slighest moves. It is good to be ecological but if there is an actor that needs to shove their face everywhere no matter what and they try to keep their fame in every way, it just doesn’t work plus this might be stereotyping but in those “finnish versions” of big shows, finns are somewhat stiff and don’t go like “yeehaw WOHOO \o/” the same way like in the original shows so it sometimes looks like they try too hard to be like the original or they are just “forced” to be superhyper.

Another reason I don’t watch much finnish series is that the articulating is bad or then there is something wrong with the audio or it’s just my bad hearing but the actors tend to speak very very quietly so you have to put volume on if you want to hear anything on the telly and then your ears get rekt and wasted because when the commercials (which are louder than the normal speech) comes, the sound is even louder [x] just like when you open your computer and forgot the volume is at maximum and whe Windows start music suddenly appears.

I bet there are good finnish movies too that are high quality and I personally enjoy the game shows (quiz like thingies) but in general, nah :p 15. a saying, joke, or hermetic meme that only people from your country will get?

Another thing outsiders maybe don’t understand but finns love to queue and freebies and an ultimate example is that usually if a new shop opens up, people can start to queue a long before the grand opening. Funniest thing is that free buckets are the most queued thing and why not because they are useful xD

16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?

Maybe my favorite finnish stereotype is that finns love personal space [x] It is a national joke that if there is a bus stop, finns don’t stand next to each other (well in the capital and big cities maybe) but they have at least 2 meters distance xD

17. are you interested in your country’s history?

Frankly spoken nah, I mean I liked to hear my grandparents’ stories about the life when they were younger and how my both grandfathers had to see the wars but in general nah, because well we’ve been owned by Swedes and Russians and had a civil war.

18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language?

I’m originally from the Eastern Finland that has its dialect and people distinguish it easily. Especially now that I’ve lived outside my hometown during studies and work, people tell that they hear strong dialect although I only use it in the person pronouns *eyes emoji*

19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?

Blue is a nice color so thumbs up for that! Well can’t say I’m a fanatic finn but of course it sounds nice to hear the anthem on telly [x]

20. which sport is The Sport in your country?

Hockey is probably where Finland is the most successful but we also like football (duh, everyone likes) but we suck at that so bye FIFA dreams xD you know about that Phil because I ranted about it last summer XD

21. if you could send two things from your country into space, what would they be?

SALMIAKKI and that free bucket *laughs*

22. what makes you proud about your country? what makes you ashamed?

There are many things very well in Finland, like everyone gets a free basic education and natural disasters such as earthquakes are very rare so it’s quite safe.

What am I ashamed of? Well frankly spoken we are way too soft on criminals in my opinion so our country should fix the law system so that the criminals would get rougher and longer punishments for rough crimes.

23. which alcoholic beverage is the favoured one in your country?

I think beers, wines and long drinks are in now?

24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country?

Sweden! It’s a common joke that we are so jealous of Swedes being better people and succeeding in everything and of course in our jokes swedes are the dummies. I think Scandinavian countries do that about each other like Finland vs Sweden, Iceland vs Denmark and Sweden vs Norway *laughs*

25. would you like to come from another place, be born in another country?

But I am born in another country xD Nah no, I wouldn’t change a thingblue eyes would be cool but finns tend to burn in the sun and I enjoy the summer I’m happy like this :p 26. does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?

The latest news about Finland in American media must’ve been that when Trump misunderstood the forest defense thing and said something like Finns are so diligent they rake their forest floors [x] but the truth is that we don’t because our climate is different. Of course we have forest fires too but they are much much smaller than in California.

I fangirled Antti holma here, he handsome, he funny, he has a podcast :>

28. does your country have a lot of lakes, mountains, rivers? do you have favourites?I think a couple of mountains exsist [x] but more rivers and thousands of lakes! I like the lakes, since I’ve spent most of my summers at our summer cottage near the lake. Actually never been in the north but I’d love to go on a roadtrip someday to see them!

29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country?

We beat Sweden and Russia so no one shall mess with our smol country! :p

Fun fact: There is a guy named Simo Häyhä, a sniper who is said to be killed more than 505 men during the 1939–40 Winter War [x]

We have a multicultural family tree, relatives from France, Germany, Sweden, Japan and so on :)!

4. favourite dish specific for your country?

But we stole everything tasty from Sweden?

Hmm from the traditional dishes, Karelian pasty (karjalanpiirakka). I bet there are many jokes like this about it because of its unique shape but it’s tasty and I always crave for them if I visit home. Of course not handmade because none of us can make the wrinkles like my grandma used to but even the factory made are pretty nice too!

This is a fun fact but one of the most interesting traditional Finnish dishes is kalakukko which is basically a loaf of rye bread which is filled with fishes, pork and done in the oven. Looks weird but with butter, surprisingly tasty!

5. favourite song in your native language?

Oh wow, this will be the reason I stay awake the whole night *laughs* Ok, let me first browse my music library and then pick few favorites!

Jenni Vartiainen - Made in Heaven Seeing her live at the biggest stage in Finland was awesomeness and this is currently one of the most played songs, mostly because it is very catchy from the tune and the chorus [x].

Happoradio - Sinun vaikka hajoat

They are one of my favorite suomirock bands and they have lots of good songs but maybe this is their most played in my list. Why? I love the soothing melody and the lyrics [x]

Aki Tykki - Valmis

The lead singer from the band Happoradio participated in the Finnish version of The Best Singers program where local musicians make covers of their songs. They already have too many seasons but I happened to hear his cover and immediately liked it, it’s very relaxed and definitely a choice for a road trip [x]

Vesala - Elegia

Vesala belonged into a pop-rock duo PMMP a long time and made a remarkable musical career before they started their own solo projects. She is still one of the most played artists nowadays and no wonder why because her first album was very versatile and *ok hand emoji*

I’ve told this before but her cover of the song Elegia will always be one of my favorites. Not only because it’s based on the beautiful poem written by Eino Leino [x] but also because Vesala captured very well the atmosphere in her version (and perhaps even better when she plays it at the stage!)

9. which of your neighbouring countries would you like to visit most/know best?

From the surrounding neighbors, Finland has borderline with Norway, Sweden and Russia. Saint Petersburg is like a couple of hours a drive away from my hometown and I’ve been there when I was a kid. Sweden is a nice place too and really close. Also, Estonia is kind of our neighbor too Finns sail there to get cheap booze, yay but anyway if I could choose, I’d go to Norway because I’ve never been there and I heard the nature is really beautiful there so I wouldn’t mind taking a road trip there.

13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?

Probably one of the Finnish traditions most non-northern folks don’t understand is swimming in the middle of winter [x]. Sounds like insanity but I heard it’s very healthy and actually, our family starts the summer house season with a similar tradition too.

We either make a hole on the icy lake or if there are not any more ice on the lake, we just dip in, either with sauna or not. This happens usually around April but earliest on March and the temperature of the water then can be even below 5 degrees Celcius (or approx 41 in Fahrenheit) which is definitely too dang cold xD but peer pressure gives the force to survive *laughs*

Trust me, even most fellow Finns don’t understand this “yay let’s freeze ourselves in icy water* tradition because I have friends who refuse to swim until the water is somewhat +20 degrees (which means there should’ve been a burning hot summer heats which we don’t have often xD)

27. favourite national celebrity?

One of them is definitely Antti Holma, a Finnish actor who is best known from a skit show Putous where he, for example, imitated one of our former prime ministers [translated version here]. Frankly spoken I’m not that familiar with his acting career because I’m very lazy to follow shows and to search movies but based on his social media, he has a great sense of humor! *laughs*

I actually started to like him even more later after finding his podcasts and his current one, “Auta Antti” is definitely my favorite. There he offers self-help for the readers’ problems and I love how eye openingly (is that a word?) he has approached these feedbacks and ponders he has received so far and. He handles these themes so that they won’t be boring af with his entertaining way to articulate but also, his endless twists of humor don’t ruin the seriousness

Fun fact: He has a Tumblr account which all the fans try to find xD
