[Translation] Shuuen no Virche - Ankou Short Story
Tumblr media
Writer: Satomi Nakayama Source: Shuuen no Virche Error Salvation Visual Fan Book
Note: Major spoilers for the ending of Adolphe/Ankou's route below.
Lycoris ~I only think of you~
—The Drifter, the person who I made a soul contract with.
‘—Did you know? Flowers have certain meanings and words that they symbolise.’
He was a knowledgeable man of many talents.
‘For example, red roses signify “love”, and also the words “I love you.”’
‘Is that so? At the very least, when I was in the outside world I never heard of such a thing…..I think.’
‘It’s knowledge one is unable to gain without asking first, so that’s understandable. But once you do know about it, the way you think of what you took to be everyday sights will change. If it has a meaning, I’ll teach you it.’
—Ever since then, because this conversation strangely left an impression on me, each time I came across a different type of flower, I would always ask him what it meant.
‘What about the flowers blooming in the garden at your home?’
‘The ones shaped like star fragments are lilies. They bear the meaning of innocent, pure love. The flowers that look like fairies are called laurel. They are flowers that mean to vow eternity, and the words, “I won’t change until I die.”
‘And these flowers that washed up from the sea?’
‘The ones that seem to have white wings are nodding anemones. They have the somewhat disquieting meaning of love unable to be conveyed, love betrayed. The other ones are elder flowers. They’re extreme flowers, that contain meanings of zeal, joy and pity.
‘Hoh….. There really are so many of them. I wonder for what purpose they exist…..’
‘Hmph. They exist so that flowers will become meaningful for people—most likely. And so that one can pick flowers that have a suitable meaning for the person you are giving them too…..or so it is thought.’
‘?’
As I remained unable to imagine it, the Drifter pointed his index finger at me.
‘Meanings are not necessarily everything but—A person of the opposite sex would likely be much happier receiving red roses, flowers that are suitable for a proper love confession, than ones that mean ‘dishonesty’, don’t you think?’
‘Well…..certainly.’
At this easily understood example, I nodded my head in agreement.
‘But to think there are as many meanings as there are flowers….. Have you memorised all of them?’
‘Haha, surely not. No matter how much I love flowers, even I have my limits. It’s only the ones I’ve read about in books or handle as part of my work that I know about.’
Hearing what he said, a “certain question” came to mind. If he knew the meanings of all flowers within his knowledge, then—
‘Do you know the meaning of lycoris flowers?’
‘Yes, of course. They were flowers that commonly bloomed in my hometown, after all. However—’
‘However?’
‘I don’t know the meaning of “black” lycoris. It would appear that this colour is unique to Arpéchéle.’
‘…..Does the meaning differ depending on the colour?’
‘Yes, that is correct. For example, the roses I told you about before, there is a big difference in meaning depending on if they are red or yellow.’
‘…..Sounds like there’s a lot to it.’
I continued to think it over.
‘Then—outside of the black kind, do lycoris flowers have a particular meaning?’
‘Yes, indeed they do. For example, the representative red variety—have the meaning of “passion.”’
‘Passion…..’
Hearing the word, what came to mind was—. The figure of my dear friend, left behind in the past that had gone by.
‘…..It’s a flower that suits Yves perfectly.’
The Drifter did not fail to hear the words I had quietly murmured.
‘My descendant…..you say. Perhaps you might call me not a doting parent, but a doting ancestor, for saying so, but hearing you say that makes me feel proud.’
However, the Drifter, after picking one of the lycoris that was blooming at his feet, handing it to me as he continued—
‘The one other true form they have—white lycoris, are surely a good fit for you.’
With a smile, he told me that he was sure they suited the face that I couldn’t remember.
‘Me…..?’
‘—White lycoris mean “I only think of you” and “Look forward to the day we meet again”, words of faithfulness. They are fitting for you, who continues to wish for her salvation, and to reunite with her again.’
‘…..…..…..!!’
My eyes widened at hearing what the Drifter had said. To think that flowers with such meanings as these existed this world…..
All the same, despite my astonishment, I shook my head at the Drifter’s words.
‘…..…..…..They are unfitting for someone as powerless as I. These lycoris noirge are more than enough for me.
As if imitating the Drifter, I picked a lycoris. And then—.
‘—The one who suits pure white lycoris, the kind that will bloom after salvation, is not me, but her. …..Someday, I want to see her smiling happily in a flower garden of white lycoris noirge.’
I spoke of my dream of a future in which someday the flower petals blooming before me became pure white—.
* * *
———My wish came true.
‘Adolphe, over here…..!’
‘Calm down, you don’t need to sprint, Ankou’s grave isn’t going to run away.’
My dear princess…..and the ex-novice, had come to visit my grave, which had been placed at the center of a field of white lycoris noirge.
Even though it wasn’t even my death anniversary, whenever something happened, she had made a habit of coming here to talk to me.
About things that had made her happy. Things that had made her sad. Insignificant things.
Because she spoke to me about almost everything, almost as if she were able to see me—
(I really am, so happy)
After running up to my grave, she laid down the white lycoris she had been holding.
‘These are white lycoris that Adolphe and I grew together, with Yves’ advice. Today they bloomed at last, so we came to bring you some, Ankou.’
…..Dear me. Even though so much time had already passed since my death.
‘…..I wanted to grow them together with you as well, Ankou.’
(—My princess, your habit of crying hasn’t changed at all)
I stretched out a finger, to stroke her hair…..or tried to, anyway.
(No, you don’t need my comfort anymore)
After all, she—had become a “normal person”, able to stand on her own two feet.
After forcefully wiping at her eyes, just as I thought she might…..
‘Beautiful, aren’t they…..? Flowers that bloomed in the future of salvation, that you protected for us—!’
She spoke with the brightest of smiles.
…..…..…..…..
(Ah, in the end-)
It hadn’t been a mistake.
(These flowers suit you the most, more than anyone else in this world)
If the lycoris I had watched over had become a guide for you to advance into the future, as they turned from black to white—.
(Nothing else could make me happier. I am the luckiest person in the world.)
Until the end of her life as a “normal person”, I pray that these flowers may continue to proudly bloom—.

Folks, sometimes I cannot with the dialogue and dispensing of information in otomes.
Spoilers for Mathis Claude’s backstory.
Mathis: You’ll be disappointed to hear why I’m such a nervous wreck of a person.
Me: (completely forgetting the flashback of Mathis crying in a cell) “Disappointed”, huh? What did he get called weird once and completely give up on socializing?
Mathis: (explains his childhood of being hated and abused by his parents for not being talented like his brother)
Me: That’s… Kid, “disappointed” is not the word I would use to describe how I feel about your past.

Do you think Amnesia World will be translated and localized?? 👀👀
(Originally, my post was much more thought out but Tumblr deleted all of it, so this is more of a paraphrase)
Hopefully, yes! Realistically, no, at least not for a while. Amnesia Memories came out in 2011, translated + localized in 2015 for Steam. Amnesia Later was in 2012, Crowd in 2013, and bundled together in 2014. Those three games only got a release for Switch in 2022, meaning that there was a solid 8 years without rerelease, and it was only for the rerelease that we ended up getting a translation. If Amnesia World ends up getting a port for the switch, then the chances of translation are much higher, rather than them translating for the PS Vita (since they aren’t made anymore).
Since it’s only on the PS Vita, and they aren’t being produced, and a lot of people’s Vita’s are probably on their last leg, there probably won’t be a fan translation either.
Looking at market trends… the two games Idea Factory are releasing soon are SympathyKiss and the otome game for My Next Life as a Villainess, two games that came out in 2022. Charade Maniacs came out in 2018, but I’ve heard that it’s a beloved game by many. Birushana was a 2020 title, TLed and released in 2022 in the west. Seeing the pattern?
On another note, Aksys released Radiant Tale (2022 release), did a rerelease of Norn9 (an otome classic, 2013), releasing Shuuen no Virche soon (2021), and a couple more. But it tends to be that the ones being released are ones being released in Japan (though a couple years late for licensing, translating, localization, etc).
So, while Idea Factory (and they work close together, with Aksys being a frequent translator, so who knows) has the license for Amnesia, it seems that the newer games will get priority for a while.

Just catching up on the recap of the Aksys panel at Anime Expo 2022 and, wow, I was fed with all of these announcements.
On the otome side...
Piofiore fandisc official release - September 8, 2022
And in 2023, we’re getting Shuuen no Virche and Radiant Tale! I’m looking forward to SnV, based on the reviews and plot I’ve read (and Norn9. Let’s see how/if the translation differs from Vita. I haven’t played it but apparently it sucked translation-wise)
And on the horror side?
...Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II. 2023.
Excuse me while I scream about it being a good day for otome and horror VN fans alike!

Figured I may as well make a post on what Fandoms I write for, so here's a list c:
Genshin (I mean this entire blog is focused around it so-)
Mystic Messenger (I'm incredibly rusty so don't expect the best work from me)
Obey Me
Tears of Themis (VERY new, so might take a while to write for this if you ask)
Devil's Line (just so I have an excuse to write about Anzai tbh)
Blush Blush (only Cole, he is the only one I have any emotional attachment towards lmao)
My Dear Hatchet Man
Doki Doki Literature Club (I also write for the Switcheroo mod! If you don't know it's a genderbent version with new art, different personalities and new story! I highly recommend)
Enstars
14 Days With You
Bustafellows
Fandoms I will respond to general asks about:
Persona 5 (though I am considering writing about it tbh, especially Maruki)
Diabolik Lovers
Dance with Devils
Mr Love (keep in mind I played until like the 3rd chapter 3 or 4 years ago; it was great I just could not get the motivation to power up my cards at the time lol, also not returning because no more Jonah Scott as a VA <\3)
Your Boyfriend (fandom Peter is actually somewhat enjoyable so sure)
Blooming Panic
Peachleaf Valley
Shuuen no Virche (I am not literate in japanese yet so I am PRAYING for an English localization/translation)
Seduce Me (my first otome game, I have an emotional attachment even if I can acknowledge it is not the best lmao)
Cytus 2
Death Note
Tokyo Ghoul (also considering writing for this)
Feel free to bring up any Fandoms outside of this list! Especially if they're otome! I always appreciate new recommendations c:

So basically I completed Shuuen no Virche (besides most of the bad endings but I generally don’t finish all the bad endings of a game anyway besides the important ones), making it the first Japanese Otome game that I completed without having to rely heavily upon a translation engine. I still used it occasionally, though, especially when the characters were talking technological bullshit.
For me, a reveal at the end of a story filled with mysteries can either break or make the game.
In this case, I believe it breaks the game and kinda ruins the experiences for me even though I really enjoy the first three routes. Ives’s route isn’s to my taste but the reveals in his route are good. The final reveal in the last route, though, kinda ruins the game in my eyes though, which is kinda unfortunate as it is a very solid game with amazing arts and tightly plotted story.

[Shuuen no Virche] Joyeux anniversaire - Scien Brofiise
<Original post here>
・゚・:,。★ translation under the cut ★,。・:・゚
...What's the point of celebrating my birthday at this stage?
It's meaningless—is what I'd like to say.
—But I'll make an exception just this once.
After all, you, my future partner, are personally congratulating me on my birth.
It means a hell of a lot more than being celebrated like I'm being worshipped by the masses.
...I used to consider my birth number as simply the time my body was up and operating. However, the reason I can now see that it holds significance is because I have a dear woman like you.
...Good grief. Just how much are you going to colour my once desolate world—you're a sinful woman, you know that?
I'm not gonna ask you to do anything special to celebrate though.
From now on, all you have to do—is watch me age at the same rate with your own eyes for decades to come.
...And I'll continue to affirm your birth and existence in kind.
I love and adore you—my equal, maiden of Death.
From now on, stay by my side like it's only natural.
---

[Shuuen no Virche -Error:Salvation-] Ceres' Short Story Translation
Tumblr media
the original can be found here
This is a story that took place a year ago, when I met "him" for the first time at the field of Lycoris noige.
In a corner of Kuhne, at an orphanage managed by Sister Salome, there lived a girl who was known as "the God of Death" and feared by a lot of people. That girl is me, Ceres.
Due to the townspeople's stares, I barely left the orphanage and spent my days helping out at the facility. It was as if I was in hiding. However, working as a temporary staff means that I have to finish any given task thrown at me. Therefore, for the first time ever, I decided to go out shopping by myself.
***
The moment I arrived at the town plaza, a stir ran through the people.
"'The God of Death' is here." "Get lost right at this instant."
"..."
Having all those people look at me while saying such things… It made me scared. It made my heart ache. It made me sad.
The only thing I could do to get along with them was…
"Good afternoon…"
I put an ambiguous, fake smile on my face. After doing so, people who looked at me with such hatred simply turned their faces away. I passed by the church in a hurry.
…..
"Oh, my. Is the girl who passed by just now… Ceres? How rare of her to go out alone… But looking at her… Hmm."
"Sighs. I'm ashamed that I can't be of any help. I hope a day will come where you can walk around outside without looking down… I wish there's something that an adult like me, whose days are numbered, can do to help you."
***
Sister Salome… Mom asked me to prepare for the ingredients in Marche and deliver a letter to the state research institute, where relivers are created. In order to go to the institute, which is located in the centre of the country, I walked down the street in the district of the rich, Syude.
Even in a district full of people who can live leisurely like this, when I passed by the biggest mansion there… From an open window, something as thin as a cloth slowly fell to my hand. I grabbed it in a hurry.
"A novel… manuscript?"
I wonder if it belonged to the owner of this mansion. I took a quick look at the manuscript. Despite that, I could tell the words written there were filled with excitement.
(No. I shouldn't read it without their permission. It's rude. Still, I can't help but be curious about what kind of person who lives here to be able to write such a beautiful story.)
No matter how curious I was, it would be too suspicious of me to suddenly visit a big mansion like this--especially because we didn't know each other. I gave the manuscript to a male guard who happened to walk near the gate and continued to head to the research district, Cerunevor.
…..
(T-Thank goodness. Someone picked up the manuscript. I'll have Jean go get it after this.)
(However, I couldn't express my gratitude to the person who picked it up. She has such beautiful golden hair. I could tell even from afar.)
***
I finally arrived at the state research institute, giving the letter Mom wrote to a male guard there.
Thinking I would only be a bother if I stayed there too long, I quickly left as soon as I said my thanks.
At that time…
"...?"
I felt like someone was staring at me. However, when I looked back, the guard had already looked out in another direction.
(Maybe it's only my imagination.)
Mom must be worried about me. Thinking that, I started walking back home.
…..
"Hmm. Just when I thought I saw someone with a striking hair color… I see. So she's the so-called 'the God of Death.' Even from this distance, I can tell she's such a gloomy little girl. I don't want her near me under any circumstances."
***
…..
"Did the handymen Krewn do something again?"
"I heard they found a child drowning and rescued them!"
"But the water was quite rough due to the heavy storm last night, you know? Man… They sure have the guts to risk their lives to save others even though they haven't made any preparation to be relivers."
Handyman. If I remember correctly, they run a service that is willing to take any kinds of requests in Kuhne, especially from those who are particularly in trouble. I heard people trust them more than the guards who protect the country.
(Must be nice…)
Me too.
(If only I had the power to save other people like them, and not the power to kill people…)
I couldn't let my presence ruin such a happy atmosphere, so I decided to take a detour to go back to the orphanage.
"...Hm?"
"What's wrong, Yves? Why are you suddenly looking back?"
"Hugo. Ah. No. I just felt like someone was staring at me."
(I'm not sure why, but I'm feeling really down because I don't know who it is. Do I know them? Or not…)
(I know it's strange to even say, 'See you again,' but I hope I get the chance to talk to them next time. I'm curious to know what kind of person who was looking at me.)
***
My little journey, which was filled with longing for other people, finally came to an end.
Even though there were a lot of instances where I felt "scared" and "sad," I managed to get back "home."
"Do you really think it's okay to let her go out by herself? I'm going to go after her…"
From behind the door, I could hear my precious "brother" talking to Mom.
(Adolphe is such a worrywart. He never changes.)
The frustration in his voice turned the "fear" I had been feeling since a little while ago into "relief."
I put a little bit of strength to open the door.
Instead of the fake smile I put on before, I gave my family a heartfelt smile. There was only one thing I had to say to my family who had been waiting for my return.
"I'm home…!"
Going outside made me realize once again how this place gives me a small happiness in my despair-filled life.
