Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, in our third matchup of the second round, we have to diametrically opposed cryptids. In one corner, a legless drunk jerk. In the other corner, nothin' but legs (sobriety and intentions unknown).

Self Indulgent Silly Bracket
Bracket 3 Round 6
Contenders!
-Vince The Voodoo Doll from 'Voodoo Vince'
-Noodle from 'Snake Pass'
Tumblr media
Note: Both Voodoo Vince & Snake Pass are very underrated games & I reccomend them. They're not masterpieces by any means, but they're both very charming & fun.
And I absolutely think you should listen to both games osts. Voodoo Vince has one of the best video game osts ever imo (Like holy shit it's banger after banger ) & Snake Pass' OST was composed by DAVID WISE. YES THAT DAVID WISE. It's only a handful of songs sure but all of them are AMAZING. Especially the song used for the water world, aka 'Sog-Gee's Realm'.
Please give it a listen if you feel so inclined, it's one of my personal comfort songs & it always helps ease me when my anxiety spikes. It's very meaningful to me in that regard.

Give it up for the winner of our competition, the snake that is absolutely dripped out with style, the absolutely positively MOST SWAG SNAKE:
WHITE LIPPED PYTHON!!
Dear white lipped python, is it any wonder that you have breezed through this competition? The fantastic iridescence across your black scales, the white markings on your mouth, and your impressive yet still manageable typical size of 7ft make you an amazing, stylish snake no matter what angle we are looking from. Congratulations on your well deserved win, you gorgeous, swagged out snake!!

Hello yellowbelly racer! Thank you for making a stop with us here today. A beautifully colored, sleek, and quick little colubrid, there's so very much to praise about you! For now we focus on your cold weather living arrangements. While you are a shy, solitary snake the vast majority of the year, when winter rolls its way into town and it comes time to wait out the cold, you happily share a burrow with other snakes looking for their own long winter nap. For this sweet behavior, we gladly give you Snake Swag Bracket's WINTER ROOMMATES award!

Hello timber rattlesnake! We shall love and admire you from over here at a respectable distance, as we can hear that you'd prefer us to come no closer. While your rattle is sadly feared and demonized in many areas across your range, we know that you evolved that wonderful rattle simply to be able to politely tell people to leave you alone so, in the hope that you won't have to resort to a bite to be able to get away! We thank you for trying to let us know when we are making you nervous, and for your dedication to clearly stating your boundaries we are thrilled to declare you the Snake Swag Bracket's COURTEOUS CUTIE!

We've got the most popular pet snake squaring off against a more rare--but increasingly sought after!--little colubrid. Will the ball python squeeze its way into the next round, or will the speedy San Francisco garter snake zip through?

Snake Swag Bracket Round 2
Tumblr media
In this round we have two beautiful North American colubrids facing off! Corn snakes (Pantherophis guttatus) Is typically estimated as the second most popular pet snake (coming in just behind the ball python!) and due to their huge popularity there are now over 800 different morphs! Many corn snake morphs--including those found in the wild--have a checkerboard pattern of scales on their belly. The origin of their name is often thought to be either because those checkerboards look like kernels of corn, or because of their habit of making a home in places corn was stored to take advantage of the mouse buffet it attracted. Eastern indigo snakes (Drymarchon couperi) are the largest known colubrids in North America, but that's not the only way their size sets them apart! Most if not all snakes are sexually dimorphic, meaning there is a significant difference between average male and average female sizes. In most snake species, females grow to be larger than the males, but in eastern indigos it is the opposite, with males typically growing much longer than females!

Bonus Poll: Tricksters!
Tumblr media
Serpent of Eden (from painting The Garden of Eden with the Fall of Man by Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel the Elder) top photo, Ophisaurus bottom photo
The Serpent of Eden appears in the Book of Genesis where it tempts Adam and Eve into eating the 'forbidden fruit' from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil". Unfortunately the perspective of snakes as sneaky, untrustworthy villains persists in a lot of Western media even today. Which, as we all know, is completely untrue, since in addition to playing a crucial role in their respective ecosystems, snakes really want nothing more than to be able to mind their own business with a cozy place to stay and a fully belly. In fact, as I'm sure many reptile keepers can relate to, if either of my snakes could speak the only thing they would try to tempt me to do is give them an extra mouse or two at feeding time!
Ophisaurus is a genus of several species tha--hey, wait a minute, what do you have? No, don't try to hide it, I see your moveable eyelids and external ear openings! And a fixed jaw?? You're not a snake at all, you're a lizard! No, no, I understand that snakes and lizards both belong to the order Squamata bu--yes, all right I agree that it's very interesting that you can break your tail off when you're threatened and need to make a run for it, but lis--yeah, I know that it's very cool that many species in your genus are named glass lizard because of the way your tail may break into several pieces like glass, but that's not what we're tal--yes, I know it's a great adaptation that the pieces of your tail will keep moving for a while to distract predators. We're not denying you're beautiful, fascinating reptiles! But this is a snake bracket, and no matter how legless and cute you are, you are simply not a snake! Oh, fine, don't look at me like that, I guess you can stay here with the Serpent.

Snake Swag Bracket Round 1B
Tumblr media
Hello to some of the very biggest snakes around! The green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) is one of the heaviest known snakes, and typically grow up to 15 feet and can weigh 150 lbs! They are found across South America, typically in tropical rainforest areas. They spend much of their time in water--their heavy bulk makes them slow moving on land but considerably quicker when swimming--but they can also be found in areas under thick vegetation or up in trees. The reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus), is the longest known snake, typically growing up to 20 feet. They are found in a wide range around southeast Asia both on the mainland and surrounding islands. They are excellent swimmer, and they are sometimes reported pythons being spotted out at sea!

Snake Swag Bracket Round 4

Here we see two notoriously shy snakes, despite their bright beauty. Will the brilliant blue and red striping of the San Francisco garter snake or the red, black, and yellow speckling of the golden tree snake be sliding into the final match up?
