growth is rewatching skam fr season 4 and realizing both imane and sofiane are flawed characters
we go throughout the season watching sofiane be vocal and transparent about his interest in imane. feelings to which she doesn’t respond to and instead lies to her friends, esp manon, about not being obviously interested in sofiane. constantly withholding the truth gets her caught up in a web of lies and although she learns to be honest, a bulk of the conflict in this season is wrapped up in imane being extremely avoidant and reactive. i remember when i first watched this 3 years ago i was like poor imane nobody understands 😢😢 but now it’s so frustrating..
i also think the way they portrayed sofiane getting with manon as a rebound girl after imane’s rejection makes his intentions seem insincere. he could’ve hooked up with some mystery girl but chose to go for her best friend manon?! real fuccboi behaviour. although, i understand we couldn’t ask him to wait around for imane while she was unresponsive, a terrible communicator, and ghosted him out of fear. she was being hot-cold all while he was earnestly attempting to be on her good side. all that talk of "how many kids do you want?" went null as soon as he decided to casually date her friend rather than sort out his own feelings.
anyways, i enjoyed the themes of willingness to understand differences/the patient love of a family/realistic portrayals of growing up muslim in a western country. this season could’ve been 3 episodes long if they had healthy modes of communicating and took time to process their emotions but khalas 😴 i still love them despite making human errors they’re incredibly tender to one another

leave a light on (english version)
by LaPetiteCeinture
"We broke up with Aidan" Deep, deaf silence. Lucas's stomach twitched. He lifted his chin, his gaze fixed on the barky trunk of the oak tree towering on the opposite side of the walkway. Until that moment, he hadn't thought it possible that someone could exude confidence and insecurity at the same time, but as he heard his own voice, he realized his mistake. "Can I come to your place?" He hesitated, but his lips moved forward again, so that his thoughts could not catch up with him. "I need you"
He had never said those words to anyone before.

A Ranking of the different Yousef versions because I can
(You’re allowed to disagree <3)
1. Mohammed
Look, I’ve never really liked Baklava except for like once, but like, that shit takes time and effort, and if someone made me some from scratch I’d marry them in an instant.
2. Yousef
The entire Balloon Squad is superior. And like, Yousef was just so sweet <3 like ??? he set the blueprint for good skam love interests. He brought soup. He can’t peel carrots though, like you’re doing it wrong sweetie <3
3. Malik
He’s ??? a bit boring ??? but season 4 of Italia wasn’t ??? so it evens out ???
4. Sofiane
darling you deserved a better season, the writers royally screwed you and Imane over
