"While tourists visiting Mexican beaches complain about piles of smelly seaweed, one Mexican gardener reckoned it was something like a gift.
The governments in places like Cancun have been required to clear away as much as 40,000 tons of sargassum seaweed, which smells like rotten eggs, but Omar de Jesús Vazquez Sánchez is steering it away from the landfills and into a kiln, where he makes adobe-like blocks that pass regulation as a building material.
He started SargaBlock to market the bricks, which are being highlighted by the UN Development Program as a stroke of brilliance, and a sustainable solution to a current environmental problem.
His story begins back in 2015 when, like any experienced laborer, he found rich people were stuck with a job they didn’t want to do. In this case, it was cleaning up the sargassum on the beaches of the Riviera Maya.
Omar grew up in poverty, immigrated to the US as a child to become a day laborer, and eventually dropped out of school and became a substance abuser. The American dream never appealed to him as much as a “Mexican dream”—a mix of memories from his childhood and dreams of being a gardener back home, so he moved back.
His time feeling unwanted as an addict and immigrant gave him a unique perspective on the smelly seaweed.
“When you have problems with drugs or alcohol, you’re viewed as a problem for society. No one wants anything to do with you. They look away,” Omar told Christian Science Monitor in a translated interview.
“When sargassum started arriving, it created a similar reaction. Everyone was complaining, I wanted to mold something good out of something everyone saw as bad.”
Tumblr media
The ecology and environment offices of Quintana Roo, the legislative area that includes the city of Cancun, approved the SargaBlocks for use, and similar organic-based blocks have been reckoned as being capable of enduring 120 years.
The UN Development Program selected Omar’s work to be featured in their Accelerator Lab global broadcast to alert the world of its value and ingenuity.
Tumblr media
There are all kinds of naturally-occurring pollutants or burdens that could be used in construction, and the UNDP hoped that by sharing Omar’s vision of the future of the Caribbean’s sargassum problem, it would inspire others to act in similar ways.
Bricks and cement can be great sources to use up naturally-occurring material that’s dangerous or burdensome—like this Filippino community using the ash from volcanic eruptions to make bricks.
Omar has been fortunate enough to be able to donate 14 “Casas Angelitas,” or homes made of SargaBlock, to families in need, and seems to be exceedingly close to achieving his “Mexican dream.”"

The possible medical use of somnus perennis, an essay by Dr. Azalea Florist
Content warning: medical malpractice, poisoning, drugging, mentions of addiction, and religious themes (not Christianity specifically though)
Somnus perennis, colloquially known as the dreamflower, is the most effective known sleeping aid. Low doses of powdered dreamflower can be used to ensure a patient has no chance of waking up during the time of a procedure. There are no substantial side effects besides putting the patient to sleep. The dreamflower is completely nonaddictive. The alleged side effects of visions are not an issue considering their similarities to the existing nightmares of patients. With the current availability of powdered dreamflower, it's only logical to start using them medically.
There are numerous accounts of how traumatizing of an experience it is to be left awake during surgery. All major anesthetics have at least a small percentage of these cases. It is absolutely impossible for a dose of powdered dreamflower to leave a patient awake. In 101 Deadliest Poisons and How to Use Them, Ayaka Sakai writes, "after my numerous successful jobs, I can guarantee that it's impossible to wake up a victim under the influence of somnus perennis until the dose has fully worn off." Dr. Emily Wheeler of the Association of Illegal and Unethical Science has conducted further experiments that prove this to be the case. Regardless of the morality of these sources, they do show how useful powdered dreamflower can be.
The mortality rate of the direct effects of powdered dreamflower is 0%. Despite its notoriety, powdered dreamflower is completely non-lethal. There are only two noted effects of ingesting somnus perennis: deep sleep, and a strange effect on the patient's dreams. A patient being put into a deep sleep is the ideal state for conducting major surgeries. The only known risk is a patient being unconscious longer than anticipated. However, this risk can be avoided entirely if one isn't careless.
Somnus perennis is a completely nonaddictive substance. Existing anesthetics, such as slumber leaves, and daisy roots, have dedicated rehabilitation facilities related to them. On the other hand, there are no reported symptoms of any addictive disorders in patients that have ingested somnus perennis. The Black Market, a famous hot spot for mad scientists, notably markets it as a poison as opposed to a recreational drug. In How to Crime, Sylvia H. Hunter states, "it is vital to avoid breathing in any drugs you use to aid you. Slumber leaves can leave you hooked for life, and dreamflowers will leave you plagued by visions for a day or maybe even longer." There are no accounts of anyone voluntarily ingesting somnus perennis.
Those against the use of any sort of somnus perennis in medical settings often argue that the side effects are too grave. This is an overreaction. There was a survey conducted on the population of Akane Island. A staggering 86% of residents recorded that they had nightmares most nights, with 65% of those nightmares being related to the divine. The prevalence of alleged somnus perennis symptoms among a completely unaffected population is very telling. The alleged vividness of dreamflower visions are likely the only actual effect.
Many substances currently used as anesthesia are unfortunately difficult to make and harvest. It's incredibly easy to create the conditions for dreamflowers to grow. There are already many monitored dreamflower fields across the multiverse. With the existing research institutes focused on somnus perennis being owned by the same organizations that provide medical care, it would be incredibly easy to access them for medical use. Alongside the proper channels, the Black Market is home to many vendors carrying powdered dreamflower. While some might consider this to be a poor resource for those unaffiliated with the Association of Illegal and Unethical Science, it still shows how easy somnus perennis is to keep and harvest with the proper equipment.
In conclusion, powdered dreamflower is the ideal anesthesia. This is clear due to it's reliability to keep patients asleep, its nontoxic properties, it being nonaddictive, the lack of substantial side effects, and it's availability.

genuine question; trying to look at info regarding the Israel-Hamas war, but having a hard time figuring out what sources are reliable/unbiased. any advice?
Every source will have bias so you're kinda out of luck there in regards to the war on the whole.
You have to figure out how to read past the bias language used on both sides of the deal, though flat out ignoring most anything that comes out of al jazeera is going to benefit you since they're just basically propaganda at this point.
UPI.com will be your most unbiased source I think, used to be a global juggernaut for news delivery but they managed to not keep up with the times on some stuff so they're not as widely known as AP or Reuters is but they do the same thing and they're very balanced in experience. Tradeoff is they don't have a huge amount of coverage.
Click here for their world news section, like I said in my observation they're very middle of the road, I trust them to be honest.
Christian Science Monitor is another one, they're very straight forward took me a bit to get past the name being someone that remembers
Tumblr media
These guys, which ya they publish it but it's as respected for honesty and fairness as it's possible to get, they don't pop up on my radar much anymore so they might be leaning one way or the other on the whole war thing, their whole gig is moving society forward though so they don't proselytize in their news.
Those two are gonna be good choices.
Non US based ones, DW has been pretty good they're out of Germany bias leans a touch left US left not europe left though.
Those will be your best shot I think, first two are likely to be the MOST fair.
That and on here find some bloggers that are posting about the whole thing and ask polite questions, they way they answer should tell you if you should listen or not some people get incredibly aggressive when they start in on the answering, look for snark not anger tho.
I hope this helps, it's a pain in the ass to find solid solid unbiased sources, in all the years I've been at this those first two are the only ones that have managed to keep my full trust.

Random Trivia
Just some stuff that's been on my brain about what Inezra likes / has picked up since she started interacting with aliens.
Human Topics
Inezra has been exposed these things to one way or the other, either through conversations with humans, aliens somewhat familiar with them, or as a result of consuming and asking questions about human media. If she remembers anything at all, if only comes out if she can connect it to something relevant in the moment and/or can use that knowledge to make fun of someone.
Christianity, which spiraled into a search that ended up in a deep dive into Christian Fundamentalism and assorted topics. She doesn't care about that part, but she does like the murder and violence in the old testament. Jesus getting nailed to the cross is pretty cool. No clue why humans act so weird about it.
Santa Claus. Why does an old bearded guy go around giving wrigglers presents? Funny that bad kids get coal though.
Pigments. You mean they don't use blood? Like at all? They're out here using artificial sources entirely? Okay, kind of lame but whatever.
Human family structures and relationships. She doesn't really care about the complexities involved in human family trees, and has trouble differentiating between them. It doesn't matter much to her, considering most if not all of the humans she interacts with have dead lusii, families, or both. It does make watching human media suck sometimes. Who is who? Why are they acting like that? Are they related?
The confederate flag. This was briefly explained to her as something humans carry when they're stupid. Why would you fly a flag when you lost that badly?
Crime. For the most part it seems like humans are awfully worried about shit that doesn't matter, like murder, or dismemberment, or maiming to the point where they have insurance for this very thing. Seems weird.
Countries. The fact that there's so many different countries on Earth makes her mad. You guys couldn't figure your shit out and put one person in charge?
American States. Again with the multiple municipalities and boundaries. Why is America not just one big country, or a handful of territories ruled over by the same entity properly. Why do the states have such stupid names? What the fuck is an Arkansas?
Science Fiction. Humans' idea of the future in their past media reads as very silly to Inezra. Though she thinks franchises like Alien are interesting enough, when viewed from the standpoint that systems humans knew that were somewhat simple would be easier to repair (re: CRT monitors and whatnot). At least they had robots.
Human Expansionism. Humans dreamed big, didn't know shit, and then also didn't manage to go any further than their moon before they blew their whole planet up. They couldn't even conquer all the land on their own planet and use it effectively. Kind of funny, not gonna lie!
Human Phrases
Y'all, die badly (Dave's fault), you do you, other assorted pieces of slang and references that are actually difficult to keep track of. Maybe I'll update this section later.
Human Media
She isn't a fan of most human media! She doesn't think they effectively use their screen time at all. This is mostly a complaint about shows like Why Women Kill. They already spent 3 hours showing you reasons why. Go ahead and get to the part where the husbands get murdered, thank you.
She dislikes unrealistic violence in movies because it takes the fun out of it. Realistic fear and fighting are better. She especially likes when humans use tools in their environment to beat monsters. Go human. Sorry you're weak, but at least you can put your neurons to use.
She does like:
Pearl (2022)
Alien (1979)
Gone Girl (2014)
Jennifer's Body (2009)
Xena: Warrior Princess
Miscellaneous
Owns a cat. She hasn't given it a name.
She has spent a couple days in jail, but she hasn't been to prison.
Likes
Alternian Wrestling. She has an account on the official forums and regularly uses it to start flame wars and wish death on troll's favorite wrestlers.
Meat buns. She's a regular patron of a combination food truck / restaurant hub called GastroGrub where they're readily available.
Chocolate Ice Cream.

464. The Create a Card Machine
Tumblr media
This is something I only remember seeing in stores for about a year, and that was it. It was definitely one of those we flew too close to the Sun ideas from the 90s. We were throwing our money away back then.
My WalMart in Hampton, Virginia had one of these, in the card section. I only ever remember kids, like myself and my niece and nephew playing with it, making our own cards, and stepping around the paper from cards nobody paid for.
Tumblr media
I can't find the source on this image-any help would be great.
You already know the reason why these machines captured my attention -- there were Simpsons custom cards. My niece and nephew actually made me a Bart one for my 12th or 13th birthday. I just remembered he was at a hot dog stand and there was a joke about Weiners.
Tumblr media
I've only found one example of a card online, on Reddit Here's an archive of the funny story behind it. Like I said, these machines were not in stores for very long in the mid 90s.
Tumblr media
I'm looking at this photo from the article, and I now remember how flimsy these cards felt. It was very thin cardstock. It definitely felt like something you would just print at home. Also, they were nearly $4, which back then was a lot of money for a card.
Tumblr media
Here is a photo of one at an abandoned mall. Another image where I can't find the source.
It seems like the machines were a runaway hit .... at first (1994):
``When we launched Creatacard, we had no real business plan you could follow,'' John Barker [company spokesperson] says. ``We started from scratch and planned to set up 3,000 [electronic] kiosks in retail stores. The demand was so strong, we ended up placing 9,000.'' 1
At Hills Department Stores, Canton, Mass., a one-unit test started before Christmas and has produced outstanding results, said Gary DeMarchis, general manager of the chain’s Robinson Town Centre store in the Pittsburg market. Use of the machine is so high that DeMarchis had his store associates learn how to service the machine themselves rather than use American Greetings’ field service organization. 3
Two years later:
American Greetings now expects the number of its CreataCard machines to drop from about 10,000 in 1995 to about 7,500 this year. Hallmark anticipates that the number of its Touch-Screens will decline from 2,700 to about 1,500.
[...]
“What maybe this is proving is people just don’t have the time,” said Marianne McDermott, executive vice president of the Greeting Card Assn., a trade group.
“Time is such an important factor now. With the basic, traditional card, someone has already designed a message. Probably that’s the way people want to go. But people also want choices.”
Curtis Nelson, 43, of Cleveland, spent about 30 minutes at a CreataCard machine recently at a suburban mall to make a card for his girlfriend after a spat.
“My only real complaint was it seemed to lack enough of a selection and detail in the graphics. Too much of it is too cute. It needs to me more serious and still more creative,” Nelson said.

Day 2- Boston
Things are a bit crowded in the city center this morning due to the pride parade (yay! But also oops on my part- I would have sworn I googled when the parade was so I could avoid crowds (even if they are good ones) but apparently something went awry…probably me trying to research a little too late at night). So I head further out towards the Mapparium - inside Mary Baker Eddy Library, grabbing breakfast at a random cafe on the way.
One slightly uncomfortable thing I find on arrival is that the Mary Baker Eddy Library is named for the founder of Christian Science.
Not being familiar with Christian Science or their paper the Monitor, I spend the time waiting for the next tour of the Mapparium worrying I may have given money to a cult/intolerant sect.
5 min of googling didn’t make the answer super clear btw- so at least it’s not much money? Really wish I’d realized this before deciding to visit so I could make a better decision on if the implications of the cost were worth seeing the cool thing.
Also a heads up, the lady at reception WILL assume you are either a) part of Christian Science or b) very willing to learn about Christian Science (from the very biased source of the library about the sect). Both assumptions that made me deeply uncomfortable.
The Mapparium
This exhibit turns out to only be accessible via a tour and with no photography allowed, but it’s still quite neat. Fortunately the tour is more of an audio-visual presentation built into the globe, and is free of any Christian Science talk.
This stained glass globe was built in 1935, and is visually stunning.
One really striking thing was that it hasn’t been updated since 1935, and thus has a number of countries on it that don’t exist anymore, like european colonies in africa, the USSR, Siam, etc. The proportions of the countries also look a bit different than looking at a globe since you’re effectively in the middle of a globe, looking mostly out and up rather than down.
Personally I kinda wish the suspended walkway in the middle had been left fully clear- it’s got a carpet on its floor, due to scaring folks in 1935- as it would have been neat to be able to see fully down.
The unique proportions of being inside a globe have unusual effects on the acoustics of the space. There’s a whisper gallery effect, and sounds bounce around in unexpected ways.

Jamal Adeen Thomas: The Private Life of Justice Clarence Thomas' Son
Tumblr media
Jamal Adeen Thomas is a private person who has been able to avoid the media spotlight despite being the son of Clarence Thomas, one of the longest-serving justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was born on February 15, 1973, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Justice Clarence Thomas and Kathy Ambush. Although his father is a prominent figure in society, Jamal has chosen to make a name for himself in the financial industry rather than relying on his father's fame. Jamal's parents met during their high school days in 1969 and bonded over their shared activism advocating for social equality. Unfortunately, they separated in 1981 and eventually divorced in 1984 before Clarence remarried three years later in 1987. Jamal was raised by his father, who did his utmost to protect him from bullying and sent him to a private school. To pay for his education, Clarence even sold his Camaro IROC sports car. Jamal attended Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and graduated from Fork Union Military Academy in 1992. He also obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics and Business from Virginia Military Institute. Jamal has led a private life away from the media, making it challenging to obtain much information about him. However, in a post in 2010, the Christian Science Monitor confirmed that he works in the financial sector. Jamal has worked at Wells Fargo, BB&T Scott and Stringfellow, and as an expert options trader at Wachovia Securities. He currently works at John F. Van Der Hyde and Associates as a Director of Supervision in financial matters. Jamal is married to Sakina Karima Paige, a lawyer who practices in Richmond, Virginia, and they share a son. Jamal's net worth is estimated to be between $500k and $600k, while his father's net worth is $1 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Although Jamal is not as well-known as his father, he has been able to make a name for himself in his own right, demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication to his career. Jamal Adeen Thomas is a private person who has been able to avoid the media spotlight despite being the son of a highly placed figure in the United States' judicial system. He chose to carve his own path in the financial industry, rather than relying on his father's fame. Jamal's private lifestyle has made it challenging to obtain much information about him, but he has been successful in his career and is married to a lawyer named Sakina Karima Paige. What are some of the origins of the problem?
Students will complete three writing assignments, integrating a minimum of two news sources. Students will select any current event of interest related to politics and government, along with the two sources, which may be any combination of newspaper/periodical/online media sources. The student is free to use more than the minimum two sources, if need be. For those topics that are national or international in nature, you are required to select a publication of a national level circulation, such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Washington Post.NPR.org, BBC World News, CNNpolitics.com and Politico are good examples of reliable credible sources. These publications have their own staff-writers in various bureaus throughout the world. Thus, they will provide you with more a lot more primary source/detailed analysis, hard news and topic background than can newspapers with only a local/regional-level circulation.Topics of a state/local nature can be accessed using a local/regional circulation newspaper (San Diego Union-Tribune,Riverside Press-Enterprise, Los Angeles Times, etc.). For each source, please choose a hard news or feature article. Please do not use op-ed pieces (editorials, opinion columns, etc.). Also, do not use short news clips from wire reports.Do not use blogs or Wikipedia, or any other “publications” that are not considered legitimate & valid peer-reviewed journalistic sources (“Info Wars.com,” etc.). Please make sure your source/article is that of a substantive and detailed information provider. The student will then write an approximate3-4page essay addressing the final criteria: (1) Give a complete and detailed background on the topic. What is the conflict(s)? What are the various perspectives and arguments of each of the parties involved? What are some of the origins of the problem? What are some possible solutions for conflict resolution, from the perspective of the political actors involved?(2) Give an analysis comparing the information offered from the minimum two sources. Which source gives more depth and detail? Is there a particular bias with one source? How so? What are some of the contents and passages of each source to support your evaluation as to the biases and coverage from the sources? These are the questions I want you to address when doing these assignments. For every idea or words that are not your own, please cite the author and/or the source. You are free to use any of the major citation styles (MLA, APA, Turabian/Chicago style). Just be sure to be consistent and, again, cite sources. Please cite your sources for non-common information presented, quotations and statistical data and figures. Cite sources and evidence from any opinions, assertions or arguments that you might want to present. The sources are more authoritative in expertise than you. Papers which include opinions or arguments that lack such evidence and sources, and are based on just anecdotal experiences, or your “gut” feeling shall be docked approximately 1-2 points. Not including a source comparison will have the paper be docked 1-2 points. Not citing sources will have the paper docked 1-2 points. Each assignment is worth a possible five (5) points each.

Climate Innovation Prize for Braunschweig battery manufacturers
Tumblr media
The Braunschweig[1]-based battery manufacturer LB Systems[2] receives the Climate Innovation Prize 2022 from the state of Lower Saxony[3]. This recognises the company's sustainable energy storage solutions, according to a statement from the Lower Saxony Climate Protection and Energy Agency. The EUR 10,000 prize was awarded on Thursday 10-11 evening by the Lower Saxony Environment Ministry in the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen.
The Braunschweig company prevailed over 54 competitors. LB Systems has developed a process that tests the functionality of used battery systems cheaply and in a matter of seconds, so that they can then be used again. Recycling would make electric cars more sustainable because fewer new batteries would have to be produced.
Lower Saxony companies have been plagued by numerous crises in recent years. "Nevertheless, this year we are seeing again that many companies with their great ideas contribute heavily to making our country more climate-friendly and crisis-proof," said the new Lower Saxony Environment Minister Christian Meyer.
Since 2020, the Climate Innovation Prize has been awarded annually to Lower Saxony companies that "show through creativity that climate protection offers an opportunity for a sustainable and future-oriented economy," the organizers said.
At the same time, the Innovation Prize of the district of Göttingen was awarded[4] to companies from the region. 122 inventions and ideas from companies and science were submitted for the prizes worth 3,000 euros.[5]
Grünfuchs Logistikgesellschaft[6] won in the "Founders and Young Entrepreneurs" category with a system for logistics in cities supported by artificial intelligence. Among the small companies with up to 20 employees, Aqua Computer[7] won with a protection system that is intended to prevent damage to computers from leaking cooling liquids. The Harz-Highland[8] company Flügel[9] won with a monitoring system for bark beetle populations in companies with over 20 employees. The Third Institute of Physics at the University of Göttingen, Aleksandra Yemelyanovich from Hildesheim and the company Ludwig Nano Precision[10] from Northeim won special prizes.

[1] Braunschweig is a city in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany, north of the Harz Mountains at the farthest navigable point of the river Oker, which connects it to the North Sea via the rivers Aller and Weser. In 2016, it had a population of 250,704. Today, Braunschweig is the second-largest city in Lower Saxony and a major centre of scientific research and development
[2] LB.systems tests lithium-ion battery systems from a first application in BEV or PHEV vehicles in order to enable the use of the batteries in a second application. A self-developed test procedure enables a particularly precise, fast and therefore economical determination of the state of health. LB.systems acts as a quasi-manufacturer who markets tested batteries of high quality, including warranty and product liability, via its own online shop to end consumers and SMEs as a basic building block for their products. In-depth knowledge of the industry and technology, as well as the largest range of recertified batteries in Europe, offers customers long-term planning security, even for large projects. In addition to direct sales, end-customer-specific products from OEM battery modules are developed internally, from mobile storage devices to home storage devices and energy containers. In addition, work is being done on a revolutionary battery system for round cells, which come from traction batteries that have been dismantled down to the cell level. Here, battery cells can be replaced individually without, as is currently the case, recycling the entire system. The aim is to use the technology as resource-efficiently as possible. https://lb.systems/
[3] As a further development of the special environmental prize, which has already been awarded for 10 years as part of the Innovation Prize of the district of Göttingen, the Lower Saxony Climate Innovation Prize is an independent competition at state level. The competition is organizationally attached to the innovation prize of the Goettingen district. This gave all applicants the opportunity to apply for two prizes with one application. https://www.nachhaltigkeitsallianz.de/klima-innovationspreis/#:~:text=10.11.2022%2C%20Hannover%2FG%C3%B6ttingen,%2DInnovation%20%E2%80%9ENachhaltige%20Energiespeicherl%C3%B6sungen%E2%80%9C.

The Many Uses Of CRISPR Technology
If you are interested in science and technology, perhaps you’ve heard of CRISPR technology. For those who don't, CRISPR is a powerful technology that stands for clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, which helps to edit genomes. In simple terms, it helps researchers and scientists to alter DNA sequences and modify gene function.
CRISPR technology has several applications in different domains. Whether it's for preventing disease spread, correcting genetic defects, or improving crop growth, the tool has been used all over. It was adapted through the natural defense mechanisms of archaea and bacteria, both of which are single-celled microorganisms.
With so much information, you must be curious to know about the use cases of CRISPR technology in detail.
Improvement in Drugs and Agriculture:- According to Dr. Cathie Martin, CRISPR technology is useful for removing (probably) the allergens from nuts. It also stimulates vegetation that uses the extra water efficiently. With such benefits, it's likely that CRISPR technology can be an effective solution for meal modification. It could also be a trend in healthcare in the upcoming times.
Other Testing:- As per the biologist Christian Happi, the methods that are used for identifying infectious ailments coming from animals are expensive and inaccurate. Happi also mentioned how doing something as crucial as PCR requires RNA extraction, along with a costly machine and professional supervision. All of these essentials are rather tough to execute in distant villages.

In such cases, their strategy to use CRISPR-Cas13a for identifying ailments (by focusing on genetic sequences related to the pathogens) was considered a better alternative. It helped them to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 in Nigeria without any professional assistance.
In comparison to PCR, the CRISPR technology was cheaper and easier to use. The technology is also useful for remote areas that lack medical resources.
Coronary Heart Disease:- Dr. Joseph Wu, the director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, has been using CRISPR technology to monitor the result of any muddled sequencing on coronary heart cells. He did so through induced pluripotent stem cells sourced from the blood.
Dr. Wu decided to slice up the genes and check the results to understand the link between the DNA of the patient and coronary heart disease. Although he thinks that it's still a long way before CRISPR technology is used for handling coronary health ailments, it's going to be useful in medical services.
Genetic Mutations:- With the introduction of CRISPR-Cas9, one of the colleagues of botanist Cathie Martin asked her to make a mutant tomato. She then decided to make a tomato without any chlorogenic acid by removing what she thought to be a key gene sequence. With such an approach, soon, a chlorogenic acid-free tomato was developed in her lab.
Eventually, Martin's lab also witnessed a tomato plant that could collect vitamin D once exposed to the sunlight. It was seen that about a gram of the plant's leaves had 60 times the recommended daily vitamin D intake for adults.
Cancer Treatment:- Back in 2012, a 6-year-old suffered from an advanced level of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Conventional treatments like chemotherapy had failed, and the transplant wasn't possible at this stage.
The patient was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was given Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy to turn the WBC against cancer. The treatment worked, and she is cancer free now.
Looking at the promising results, Dr. Carl June (medical professor at the University of Pennsylvania) is working to improve the same. They are using CRISPR to edit the T-cells, and its use in clinical trials has shown promising results till now.

Define lame

#Define lame free#
It uses inexpensive replaceable double edge blades which makes it both economical and ecological. Our lame’s easy grip handle allows for steady control and accurate cutting. This may sound funny, but one popular model on the market is so small and thin as to be nearly invisible when set down, is difficult to pick up barehanded and almost impossible to use while wearing protective oven gloves. It’s designed to be easy to see and pick up. We believe our bread lame is an excellent balance of form, function and price. We also wanted to carry a lame that was reasonably priced. To work well, the blade needs to be extremely sharp, so a replaceable blade was a necessary feature of an acceptable lame. They were either over priced or disposable. We have not carried a bread lame prior to this one because we were unable to find one that we liked. Send us feedback.A Lame (pronounced LAHM, meaning “blade” in French) is typically a long thin stick made to hold a metal razor used to cut, or score, bread dough to help control the expansion of the loaf as it bakes.
