A KIND OF WORLD WAR Spector Books @spectorbooks Das Neue Alphabet( The New Alphabet) Volume 8 Aby Warburg’s famous lecture on the Hopi snake ritual in Arizona is one of the most commented art history transcripts of the 20th century. But while Warburg’s essay is firmly anchored in the canon of art history, to a wider public—especially in Europe—little is known about its source, the snake ritual and its history. A Kind of World War is dedicated to what Aby Warburg largely ignored himself: that not only the ritual, but also the images of the ritual—to whose global distribution Warburg contributed—have a political history. The volume seeks to demonstrate that Warburg’s art history, insofar it outlines an internal history of the European psyche, must be read in conjunction with its external counterpart, the history of colonization, war and cultural entanglement.
📚KWI @Book_Fair ➡️ Unser…

" Geboren werden hat seine Zeit, sterben hat seine Zeit;

Lucia Jay von Seldeneck " Weltfrieden." Erschienen in dem wunderbaren @goyaverlag
Dieses Buch traf heute ein. Der Verlag nennt es Roman. Ich habe überlegt. Mögliches Beiwerk Satire oder Krimi. Kurz gesagt. Es geht um einen Kindergarten. Eben " Weltfrieden."
#spectorbooks. Wurde von der @stiftungbuchkunst prämiert. Als eines der schönsten deutschen Bücher.

TODAY ONLY! ⁣⁣⁣ Save 10% on EVERYTHING. Use code: "GRADS" ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ Space Colonies: ⁣ A Galactic Freeman's Journal⁣ Available at www.draw-down.com⁣ ⁣ A visionary assemblage of historical, present-day and speculative material on space colonies, inspired by the culture of the Whole Earth Catalog. At the beginning of the 1970s, American physicist Gerard K. O’Neill developed the first ideas for colonizing space. Shortly thereafter, Stewart Brand, cyber-communard and editor of the Whole Earth Catalog, took up these ideas and published the book Space Colonies in 1977. Space Colonies, an edition of Brand’s CoEvolution Quarterly, funded by the proceeds of the Whole Earth Catalog, took up the question of whether space might be colonized by the year 2000. Artist Fabian Reimann takes up Brand and O’Neill’s particular strain of techno-utopianism in Space Colonies: A Galactic Freeman’s Journal. In his photo-essay Reimann assembles historical, present-day and speculative material, combining these with fictional and factual stories to create a composite of different images of the world. With global ecological disaster an even more pressing issue than it was in 1977, and the colonization of space still touted by some as a last-ditch resort, Reimann looks back at the dreams and nightmares of the 1970s with a sophisticated visual humor. BACK IN THE BOOKSHOP: UNDER THE RADAR: UNDERGROUND ZINES AND SELF-PUBLICATIONS 1965–1975 (2017) The mid-1960s witnessed a boom in underground and self-published works in West Germany. Hectographs, mimeographs and offset printing not only allowed for the production of small, low-cost print runs, but also promoted a unique aesthetic. Using wild mock-ups, these messianic amateurs combined typescript aesthetics, handwriting, scribbled drawings, assemblages of collaged visuals, porn photos, snapshots and comic strips, forging a new, wildly free, sensibility in the process. This book is the first to present the underground and self-published works that came out of West Germany in such depth, while also showing the international context in which they emerged – not as an anecdotal history but as an attempt to tap into the aesthetic cosmos of the Do-It-Yourself rebellion. Insomuch, Under the Radar also challenges us to take a new look at the current boom in independent publishing, the risograph aesthetic and more. An incredible collection and valuable volume for anyone interested in underground publishing history! Available via our new website and in the bookshop. 10% web orders this week! #worldfoodbooks #undertheradar #spectorbooks (at WORLD FOOD BOOKS)

A-Z / A=A (s. Identität) by Lina Grumm The book “A–Z/ A=A (s. Identität)” approaches the capacity of images to carry information and ideas. Images transmitting theories and constructing themes are at the book’s basis: 136 tables show motifs from a variety of sources in continuously changing constellations. A momentum of repetition, association, comparison and reference to other images and topics keeps the constellations together and shows how the perception of an image is influenced directly by its respective context. The book is further organised along 180 keywords, that are positioned at the head of each page and explained on seperate pages in alphabetical order. The keywords are not explained and defined in their general meaning, but are rather dissected into single aspects recombining their concepts mainly in the form of quotes. Words and images represent a subjective selection of themes in literature, art, theory and history. The combination of those themes forms a whole new dimension of meaning, contents are extended and mixed and thus develop their own dynamics. Image and keyword meet on a page, their combination is random. The words extend the spectrum of the image’s readability by another layer. 230 x 300 mm, 196 pp., german, 2008, published by Spector Books
