A headcanon-like thing I would like to share about Queen Lorelei
Tw: death during childbirth and some light mentions of suicide and grieving
Tumblr media
I love Queen Lorelei (King Roland's deceased wife). She barely appears or it's mentioned in the show? Yes. But oh well. Fandom.
We believe she's that genuinely kind deceased character, that everyone remembers as sweet and beautiful, always more gentle than the world was to her, like a ray of sunshine. She's absolutely adored by everyone and her beauty and kindness always brought all the eyes in the room to her and her sweet laughs and smiles.
But unfortunately she died some time after she got married, during the childbirth of the princes that her body wasn't made to support, because the only reason she got pregnant in the first place was the wishing well, and that action had consequences, which means, she got pregnant indeed but that didn't changed the fact her body wasn't capable of enduring this.
And well, she died because of that. I usually feel really bad about childbirth deaths, because I feel like that could have been avoided months earlier. She was well and healthy but trying to have children took her life, and that just happened because she wanted to have a family and live a happy life.
But well, despite being something that lacks information, her story and character fascinates me, and we try to suppress that desire to see her story through fanfiction and fanmade content.
In my case, I have a constant habit of relating characters to songs, in some cases to whole artists if their whole discography match this character or fandom. For example I can't hear some of Aurora's songs without thinking of Cedric.
In Lorelei's case, it was something I never spoke about, but since we're in a fandom and in constant search for STF related stuff and fan content to keep enjoying our favorite show, I decided to share this.
Basically, I'm a HUGE Lana Del Rey fan since around 2019. I know 90% of her released songs and I also listen to some of her unreleaseds (that despite me knowing a ton of unreleaseds there are more than 200 wandering through the internet so there's no way I know all of them)
During the start of her carreer (actually, her first albums, since her career started years before the debut album) Lana's songs told us stories. Some key words that I would like to relate to her songs are: girlhood, nostalgia and melancholy (+or tragedy if you think about it)
In her first albums (Born to Die + The Paradise Version which is a deluxe of BTD) her songs were centered around nostalgic stories and feelings surrounding girls' experiences. Because she is so beautiful and often delicate while singing about darker topics, it's like her voice and lyric choice just interconnect. She sang about girls who lost their lovers, about beautiful girls that felt unhappy or/because they wasted their youth, about tragic endings, like being taken away from your friends during your teenage years because you guys were doing all kinds of crazy stuff at that time (this song is called This Is What Makes Us Girls), all of this surrounded by a feeling of nostalgia, as if those stories had happened a long time ago.
(Her songs weren't made to romanticize anything, like some people say they were; in fact, a huge part of these songs were inspired by her own life and feelings, and Lana is just telling us stories.)
So, going back to Lorelei, some of Lana's songs remind me of her. Based on what I said you can understand why. But not only that, Lana has some very specific songs that kinds match the fandom's headcanons of how Lorelei would be like (since we have no official info about her character).
Like in the song Blue Velvet, which is a cover from Bobby Vinton's song, but Lana brought a whole different feeling to it. Bringing it to the context of her album, her version sounds a lot more heartbreaking than the original one. The lyrics are about a male character missing his lover, singing about her blue velvet dress and how he will never forget about his love for her, even after she passed. Lana's version has a whole orchestral instrumental through the song and mostly at the end of it, making the song sound nostalgic, tragic and even sounds like some kind of anthem close to the end.
There's also the song Carmen, where there is a girl called Carmen, who attracts all eyes to her and is known for her beauty, but deep inside she's not mentally well, and people seem not to care about or notice how she's feeling. By the end of the song she even gets a love confession (in french), probably hinting at the fact that she receives many of them, but it doesn't matter because those who give them don't really know her or care about it. Despite her state "she's still shining" (in Lana's words), because even though she's suffering, she's still beautiful and loved by people.
In the song Born To Die, Lana sings about enjoying your life while it's still happening, because we're gonna die sooner or later. In the music video the scenes interwine with her sitting in a throne and spending time with a lover, who seems to give her an unhealthy relationship, judging by his aggresive behavior. At the end of the music video they're travelling together by car and her boyfriend, the driver, tries to force her to kiss him back, and because of that their car crashes and she dies in his arms, making him face his guilt because he was the one who did this to her. Tragic ending.
Dark Paradise is a song about grieving a loved one. It was made based on her feelings and her life.
These are some of the songs that match because of the lyrics, but being honest, because of the album being so concrete, the lyrics don't even need to match for me to remember her, because as I said this album is about nostalgic girlhood and melancholia, and she often sings about memories like in the song This Is What Makes Us Girls, that was also inspired by her teenage years when she was taken from her friends, but the memories she carries with them last till this day and it makes her miss those times.
Going to the unreleased, there are so many more. Like the song Angels Forever, where she's singing about memories that at her youth she never thought they were going to end: "we were angels forever, forever angels".
Or Fine China, where she is watching a friend having their first child, and remembering that at her own wedding years ago her groom left her at the wedding, depriving her of the dream life she would have liked to have had, singing "I'm going down now, with all of my fine china and fresh linen, all of my dresses with them tags still on", hinting at what was left of the wedding, of a life she couldn't have, but that she was watching others around her having it in her place. This song kinda reminds me of Roland to be honest, even thought his story with Lorelei isn't really related to their wedding, he was also deprived of a life he wish he could have had. And he had her dresses packed, her stuff still there in the castle, just like in the song the pov had her fine china and dresses with tags still on (they were never used).
It kinda fits even more with that headcanon that Cedric was in love with Lorelei. He never had the chance to live a life with her, and he's a bachelor till this day, watching all the weddings and happy lives through the years but never being a part of them, thinking about what would have happened if life wasn't so cruel.
I had these thoughts and despite being a bit niche I still felt like it should be shared. I know that not many people are fans of listening to recommended songs (at least in my case that's true), but I also made this post for those who already know some of those songs and didn't noticed these connections with Lorelei's story. Those who don't know the songs and want to listen to them now are also very welcomed.
I think about how amazing would be if I made a fanfic about this and using these songs. But I won't do it, it's just a thought. Feel free to do it though, I would absolutely love to read that.

Headcanon.
Sofia often vents to Cedric whilst painting his nails, whether it be about stress, Roland, protectors, school, expectations. It started when she was 13, and they've done it since then.
It's become a bit of a code word too, when Cedric can tell Sofia needs to let her feelings out, he asks her to paint his nails, when she wants to tell him she needs to vent, she offers to paint his nails. Different colors mean different things, she'll ask if he wants a certain color indicating what she needs. Purple means she's alright, but just wants to talk to him about something she's dealing with, green means she's stressed out and wants to vent about it, black means she's really not okay and needs help. It's mostly used in public, obviously Sofia doesn't want to spout her business to everyone else, she wants to tell Cedric specifically, and she doesn't want to worry other people.

Suddenly remembered a headcanon of mine from a while back about how Cedric rarely, if ever, drinks around people because of how embarrassing he gets. He's already treated as a joke, imagine if he made a fool of himself when drunk...but he probably drinks alone in his tower sometimes. Never in the workshop, of course...he made that mistake once and that's the last time he's making it. I think he'd be the type to drink away his emotions.

Some Random Sofia the First Headcanons I Have
The twins are deathly allergic to Peanuts and Baileywick is hypervigilant about their food because of it. James prefers Sunflower butter while Amber like Almond butter.
Vivian used to be scared to death of the dark until her (now late) grandfather gifted her with a music box to help put her to sleep.
Hugo is terrified of dogs because one of his father's hunting dogs attacked him when he was little. He probably would've died if it wasn't for their royal wizard.
Mazzimo is pansexual
Sofia and Ruby's mothers became widows at the same time because their husbands were best friends and were all on the same ship when it was lost at sea
Jade's father left about a year after she was born, leaving her mom to raise her on her own.
There was a solid 8 months after she found out what happened to her father that Sofia was terrified of the ocean
Roland doesn't talk about Lorelei much, but Amber reminds him so much of her. Strong willed, elegant, and obsessed with the stars
Chrysta used to have a very large family, the Wassailia she described was how they would celebrate, but there was an incident with a dark wizard that killed all but her. That's why she was so set on being a protector
Lucinda has an older sister. Her mother blew up and disowned her when she became a good witch. She always regretted it but could never find her again. She refused to make the same mistake when Lucinda did the same.
Vor only became an evil sorceress after she lost her child. She went half mad looking for the power to bring them back. It was so long ago she doesn't even remember why she began to seek power to begin with. But that's why she never hurt the children, only subdued them.

How does the education system in the Everrealm even work. Elena, Mateo and Naomi are not in school even though they are secondary school age. All we see is primary school for Isabel, the StF kids
I imagine the different Kingdoms have their own approaches to education, like how real world countries have different education systems. I'm assuming most of the kingdoms require primary education and have varying degrees of requirement for secondary education, with access to tertiary education for those that would need higher education in more specialized subjects.
Enchancia we know has Royal Prep and the village school for primary education, with the former being specifically for royals from a variety of kingdoms. The other kingdoms presumably have their own village schools as well for non-royal folks. Royal Prep and the village school have different curriculum, with RPA teaching magic and the village school teaching construction, as examples. Hexley Hall is a magic academy that seems to cover primary, secondary, and tertiary education for sorcerers considering Cedric says he studied there for 15 years. Other primary schools introduced in StF include the Junior Knights Academy and Westloch.
I don't think we really see any secondary school students in StF, but we do learn a little about secondary education, at least for the upper class, when the Royal Prep students get sent to pick a school to attend after RPA graduation in The Royal School Fair. Like Royal Prep, these schools don't seem to be restricted by kingdom. So at least in the "Eastern Hemisphere" EverRealm, royals seem to be educated together for primary school before being split up for more specialized secondary school.
I don't remember if its ever made clear how secondary education works for normal kids, nor how admission into Hexley Hall works as opposed to just going to a regular school. Considering StF is entirely focused on primary school aged kids, it makes sense that we wouldn't learn a whole lot about what happens afterward.
We learn even less about education in the "Western Hemisphere" EverRealm in Elena of Avalor, since unlike StF, EoA's focus isn't on the characters being in school. Royal education doesn't seem to be as centralized in Avalor as it is in Enchancia (& Enchancia's neighbors), since Isabel was being privately tutored in the castle before going to school. There also doesn't seem to be a specific school for royals, since when she does start attending school, she just goes to the regular school in the city. We also know Avalor has tertiary education in the form of the Science Academy, and there are presumably other specialist schools as well. Esteban mentions a "royal academy" when he says he's bringing in professional dancers for Naomi's birthday in My Fair Naomi, but this is never really elaborated on.
As to why we don't see the teens in school - I touched briefly on this in my magic in Avalor post, but my headcanon is that education in Avalor is only required through lower secondary education (through the end of 9th grade for Americans). This is based off the fact that upper secondary school was only made mandatory in Mexico in 2012. Elena presumably had private tutors growing up (seeing as Isabel canonically did), so we wouldn't see her going to school even if she was still studying. Mateo and Naomi, then, would've been upper secondary school-aged at the start of the show, so it's possible that they just dropped out once they got their jobs at the palace.
It might also be possible for them to just still be in school during the run of the show. We don't see every detail of their lives, and the school day in a lot of Latin America tends to be structured around the morning, with classes ending early so students can go home for lunch. They could be going to school in the morning and then heading to the palace in the afternoons, and the episodes where we see them hanging around at other hours are weekends or holidays. I mean, the show starts during summer break, so it wouldn't be an issue for a few months anyway.

More Sofia the First Analysis: The Elf Situation
So Firstly it made me kind of sad that at the young age of 12/13 the Royal siblings already feel the need to be adults. It made me therefore really happy that the lesson at the end was to let themselves have fun and just be kids.
It also once again fed my Autistic Amber headcanon. She wanted to follow her father’s schedule, and wouldn’t stray from it even when things were going fine without it. She was frustrated when things didn’t go as planned.
Also was it just me or did the elf queens seem pretty flirtatious at the end there. I mean “I actually kind of like your blue tunic after all.”
“I was just thinking your green tunic looks pretty sharp too,” as they drift together on their floating blocks and then stare into each other’s eyes and hold hands. And then they keep holding hands during the picnic and laugh at each other’s jokes. Like I think this conflict may have been solved through the power of love. Like the elf queens dynamic seems to be childhood friends to enemies to lovers.

HEADCANON
Like many of you, the s1 StF episode 'The Floating Palace' left a bad taste in my mouth because of how horribly OOC Cedric acted in that after turning himself into a (HIDEOUS) sea monster:
- Abducting and holding prisoner a freaking child (the mermaid named Una)
- Trying to harm Sofia. *angry snort* Trying to fucking get rid of Sofia with his magic
HE WOULD NOT FUCKING DO THAT. FR, the way Craig Gerber (yes, it was the show's creator himself who wrote that episode, which is even more disappointing) wrote Cedric there felt like horrible fanfiction from somebody who never saw the show.
But I have a theory. My hc is that Cedric's sea monster form not only made him a literal monster on the outside, but figuratively monstrous on the inside too. It was a side-effect of the transformation spell, and he wasn't even aware of how it was morally affecting him because his humanity- and what goodness he normally had, which always prevented him from going too far- was greatly suppressed, leaving only the bad and also making the bad in him much stronger.
I also hc that the longer Cedric stayed in that form, the worse he would have become until his humanity was totally gone and there was no good at all in him, no limits to what he would have done.
In fact (and I hate to say this), if Sea Monster Cedric had known abducting the young mermaid princess endangered Sofia's family (the mermaid queen believed them to be responsible for taking Una and was prepared to sink their ship to get her daughter back), there's a good chance he wouldn't have really cared; in fact, he likely would have seen it as the perfect bonus to him usurping the throne with the power of the mermaid comb, as the royals dead would've left him totally free to take over.
I hc that after Cedric turned back to his normal human self, he felt horribly disgusted and remorseful for his shameful actions, especially trying to harm Sofia. It probably haunted him ever since (especially after he turned over a new leaf). Which was very likely why he canonically refused to go with the royal family back to Merway Cove (in one of the Merway Cove episodes, Sofia mentioned it was too bad he didn't want to come with them this time, and Miranda replied "He said he couldn't think of a more monstrous vacation, whatever that means"). Think about it. Cedric secretly referenced transforming himself into a sea monster, but surely it wasn't his failure to obtain the mystical mermaid comb and use its power to take over the kingdom that greatly traumatized him because he's used to failure. There was nothing about that particular failure itself that ate at him. It was what he nearly did to Sofia as a monster, which was why going back to Merway Cove was too painful.
And I think if he'd known his actions on Sofia's first trip to Merway Cove had endangered her family, he would have felt even more guilty, especially once he became a better person...

Cedric and Wormwood at Hexley Hall - Bullying (+Greylock's help)
I wish I could write this as an one-shot but I'm not feeling like it. Feel free to do it though. Just send me so that I can read it too hehehe
Tumblr media
Tw: bullying
Imagine Cedric as a child walking through Hexley Hall with his new familiar, Wormwood (a baby crow, on top of his head or his shoulder simply because he can't fly yet- while Cedric is reading or even studying during the day to day activities, minding his own business with his new crow) after a spell class, where they were studying self-defence spells (foreshadowing) and Cedric still needed a little bit more of practice after the class, as he couldn't do it during the time again.
When a group of bullies finds them and try to (clearly) bully them, or better saying, Cedric. They push him to the floor, say bad stuff about him being a bungler, being useless, good for nothing, destroying his sister's hair, being the worst future royal sorcerer that Enchancia has ever had and saying he must be an embarassment for his parents, which hurts him deeply, trying to answer them by saying "That's not true!", "What I did to my sister was an accident!", "I AM a good sorcerer!" and "I will be a great sorcerer in the future, I just need some practice!" but no one there even cares about him or his feelings, just making fun of each one of his lines.
Cedric tries to protect himself and Wormwood from these bullies, maybe they got Wormwood into their hands and threatened to do something to him, harassing both of them. Cedric tries to use his wand, but he's too nervous and he's still studying the self-defense spell, so he can't do it, and they grab his wand too. Maybe they got his books and supplies to destroy them or read what he was reading, making fun of his notes, tearing them, burning them with a fire spell while Cedric can't do anything about it. When suddently the bullies are hit by an attacking spell, looking behind to see the future royal sorcerer from the Rudistanistan kingdom, Greylock.
Greylock say some things to them, like "what do you think you are doing with my friend Kendrick? Didn't you hear that he told you to go away? Leave him alone!", or "Don't you have anything better to do, you cowards?" or in his sarcastic and unbothered personality saying "Bedkick! There you are, I've been looking for you in the whole school! Oh, hello to you too! Am I interrupting something?", or "I know you're all too busy now, but can I ask you to excuse my friend Kevik for a moment? We have potions to study! Ah, thank you, thank you, I'll return him to you as soon as we finish this" while grabbing Cedric's hands and getting him out of the floor, and his bullies sending him a dead look, Cedric swallowing, the tension still lingering in the air.
Greylock got the little Wormwood out of their grabbing hand "Now return this boy for now- lemme just- ugh- you're really strong aren't you? haha, I got it, thank you my friends, see you tomorrow class" and Wormwood giving a uncomfortable "caw" during the impact of getting out of their hand. Greylock immediately returned Wormwood to Cedric's cupped palms, dying out of worry for his little bird, with a saddened/worried expression, checking if he's alright or if he broke a bone, opening his wings with his fingers while Wormwood caws out of stress/because he's beeing too touched and he doesn't like it. Cedric holds him close to his face saying "I'm so glad that you're okay, Wormy" as they are already far from the bullies, walking away now.
Greylock advises him to stop walking so distracted, practicing spells in the corridors, because they can get him again and Greylock won't be there to help. Greylock offers his help to learn the self defense spell, maybe later in their dorms or in the library, maybe at tomorrow's class.

Headcanon.
Cedric's workshop is Sofia's safe place. She knows she's always welcome and it's the first place she thinks of when everywhere in the castle is getting too chaotic or loud. She'll usually help Cedric with whatever he's working on, or if he isn't there, which is rare, she'll pick up a book and read to herself until he comes back. Cedric doesn't mind this one bit, he knows better than anyone that sometimes everything is just too much and you need a quiet, dark place to gain back your strength. He's happy to be that place for her

Some ideas for how magic works in the STF universe for my fic! Some of this *may* be able to be Headcanons? I’m not far enough yet to see whether or not there’s anything notable to contradict it yet. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy!!
One of the main questions I had was what the difference in a witch vs a sorcerer was in the show. I mean, they both use magic, right? But isn’t Cedric’s mom referred to as a sorcerer? And wasn’t Ms. Nettle’s disguise referred to as a sorcerer as well? So, then, if female sorcerers aren’t witches, what defines the two? It isn’t good vs evil either, because Lucinda never calls herself a sorcerer, just a “good witch”
My idea thus far is that witches (and wizards) are born with magic inside of them that they can harness and use at their will, whilst sorcerers command the magic in the areas around them.
I guess technically fairies could be considered witches as well under this rule, but I figure fairies are more of a non-human species, while witches (in my reasoning) are a human species.
This makes two categories of humans that use magic: either they’re a witch born with strong magic in them that they control, or they’re a sorcerer who commands the magic around them
I also like to believe that witches can’t do what sorcerers do and vise versa, but I’m open to changing that if the need arises.

Now heres a new STF AU idea. The Protectors of the Mystic Isles, except its a fast food joint.
Like like hear me out. It’d be so funny seeing the Protectors flippin patties, screaming at ppl in drive thru, dealing with karens, etc. The establishment shall be called: Mystic Munchies
JOB ROLES:
Vega: Manager
Orion: Co-manager
Chrysta: Drive thru
Gailial and Sofia: Cooks
Garish and Turon: Cashiers
HEADCANONS:
Sofia and Gailial will always end up burning something. They burnt a milkshake somehow once. Garish always has to assist them with their cooking.
Whenever Chrysta is not on her shift, Vega takes over drive thru, except Chrysta will pull up in the drive thru just to irritate and troll Vega cuz she is bored.
The reason why Nerissa doesnt work there is cuz they started serving fish sticks and she quit the second they discussed serving fish related foods.
Sofia tries to deal with Karens in the nicest way possible, but if that doesnt work, she WILL call over Chrysta who will probably end up fighting the Karen and either Orion or Vega would have to break it up.
(more headcanons coming soon if I can think of any)

So I read the first chapter of your Cedric x Reader fanfic and came to share my thoughts.
I will say, I'm not too fond of x Reader, I'm more about reading about characters instead of being one. That being said, I liked that there was an effort to include other characters from stf, and I actually got invested from how the fic was formatted as a genuine stf episode.
I don't want to be too critical of the portrayal of some of the characters, but as a Roland enjoyer, I felt your portrayal of him was quite decent until it came to Cedric. I'm not sure at what point the story is supposed to take place in besides being between Great Auntventure and Day of the Sorcerers, but I feel that Roland being unhappy about Cedric coming along doesn't feel in character. At most points in the show, Roland is shown to not mind Cedric, let alone with Sofia. Cedric's Apprentice was an episode where Sofia literally became Cedric's apprentice so he could help her for a test, and Roland never once objects to her being with Cedric. I think Roland doesn't have as big of a gripe as people think because he's more disappointed at Cedric not being able to do magic than him as a person overall.
That being said, I love how you wrote him as someone who respected Sofia's wishes and let her bring Cedric along to the carnival. That is very much like Roland to see that Sofia likes something and sets aside his biases for his daughter. I can understand headcanoning Roland not liking Cedric as a person, and It's not something I'd agree with, but I absolutely agree with him respecting his children and their wishes.
As for the royal family as a whole, I didn't expect them to take as much of a focus as they did, and it was a pleasant surprise to have the children interact with Y/N. In fact, the format of the fic was so creative, with the royal family being so involved, I found myself being invested more in that than the x Reader parts. That's just me liking things not involving Cedric more because of how focused he is in the fandom. I wanted to talk more about the other aspects of the fic because I think people would find these elements such a treat.
While the royal family isn't THE main focus, I found Amber and Miranda to be a bit weird as characters. The fact I preferred the writing for James over them says something. With Miranda, I felt she wasn't a character like everyone else. The only role she seemed to have was as a mother and nothing else. The way she didn't have as much of a prominence as the others bummed me out. And it's not that she had to have a bigger role, but I felt myself questioning where she was.
My thoughts about Amber are based on my opinion, but the way she was written felt mixed to me. There were parts where she felt like Amber, like her excitement at getting her fortune told, but her being interested in whether she has a spouse?? I don't know, I personally don't think she would be too interested in that, or at least would be more interested in other aspects of her future. Plus the "I AM EASY" part caught me off guard. That part with the part before of Amber eating fast but elegantly did not pair well. It felt like Hildegard core.
These are just my thoughts though. I really enjoyed reading this fanfic despite some parts I didn't jive with. I would recommend it for anyone who likes a storyline with their smoochies with Cedric rjdbhdidjdjdjrj
Thanks for recommending me this fic /g /vpos
I ain’t reading all that I’m happy for you tho or sorry that happened /ref
No but seriously thank you so much for writing all this 😭😭
First of all I always try to make my one shots feel like they could more or less happen in the StF canon, so I’m glad it works!!
Regarding Roland, I know that you love him but I don’t necessarily like him that much. I think he’s okay most of the time, I just hate him for fun lmao (that’s probably why I wrote him as less likable than he actually is)
About the characters overall, this was my first piece of StF fan fiction and when I was writing this I hadn’t finished the show yet (I was maybe at the beginning of season 2) so the characters hadn’t gone through all the development they had to go through yet, and I guess I didn’t have that good of a grasp on their personalities. Now that you point it out, looking back Amber was never boy crazy so I agree that that bit doesn’t make any sense (😭), and yeah I guess Miranda ended up being just… mom.
All in all thanks for the feedback! ❤️❤️
