Usually, after school, Toshiya would will follow Daisuke back to his house and watch how Mrs. Andou sews clothes. Even he also provides a special book to record knowledge about sewing. And if he was so inclined, he would also draw some dress patterns. Who knows he can make clothes for his mother, right? When the clothes Mrs. Andou had made were beautifully finished, the two boys would deliver them from door to door, place to place. Sometimes Toshiya would also wait for Mrs. Andou while Daisuke was gone.
This Thursday was a day off for Mrs. Andou, Daisuke and Toshiya. No one knows what's going on in Daisuke's head. Stupidly, he followed Toshiya's footsteps and jogged into the forest at the mountain located behind the school. The atmosphere of the forest at that time was very calm, for some reason no one came down or went up to look for wood. The warm sunlight that was heading west penetrated between the thick leaves of the trees and made Daisuke frown.
Occasionally he would hear the sounds of forest insects, but then his eardrums focused on the sound of a roar above the sky, that thing lulled the voices in the forest into a deep sleep. The boy felt the large object move in the same direction as him. From between the leaves of the trees, he couldn't see it very clearly, he only knew that it was the sound of an airplane.
"Dai-chan! Come here quickly! Look at this!!" Without Daisuke noticing, Toshiya was far ahead of him. He shouted and waved his hand calling his friend.
"I'm coming" Daisuke replied casually.
"Hurry up!" Toshiya called back.
Arriving next to his friend, Toshiya put his arm around Daisuke's shoulder. "That was a plane, wasn't it?" He pointed the airplane that as far ahead and slowly turning into a smaller object before dissapearing inside the clouds.
Daisuke turned to Toshiya. "You should have run here earlier. I saw it clearly from this end." He continued. Toshiya is right. From that ravine, not too many trees grow. Daisuke felt stupid because he should have been able to see the plane more clearly. "Why don't you tell me sooner, idiot"
"I called you few times before but you weren't listening and froze in place when the airplane came."
"Haaaaah. Stupid Toshiya as always. You could've yanked my hand or something"
"But that would make you angry, wouldn't it, Dai-chan"
"Well! Let's watch the sunset together" said Toshiya, smiling warmly and looking into the older boy's eyes which were turning brown because his retinas were exposed to the beautiful sunset ray.
A week after that, Daisuke still hasn't come to school. It's been about 1 and a half week. Toshiya hasn't had time to go to Daisuke's hut because the teachers give him a pile of assignments and he must study harder for college he needs to take care of his grandpa who's now ill. Because his parents work until 8 PM at the city, Toshiya had to stay with his grandpa with Mimi-chan (the cat).
Well, he could jump off the window at midnight to go to Daisuke's hut, but, his father was kind of strict at things like this. With the delinquent appearance, Toshiya didn't want his father to think any silly ideas about him, like one time when he was 15, he was accused to be doing dr*gs with his friend when it was just a flour and salt. Honestly, he felt bad not looking after Daisuke. What happened to him? Toshiya didn't know and it leaves an uneasy feeling every time, but at the same time, he couldn't left home.
Toshiya tries to time it and he gets it right. He felt really relieved that finally his grandpa feels lot better and his mother is now sleeps with his grandpa at his room, and luckily, that night his father went into town for several days to take care of some business. Toshiya easily sneaks up and opens the front door. With a cellphone on his hand, he looked for his flip-flops, put them on, then exited the house.
He knew exactly where Daisukei's room is. From outside, toward one of the open windows near an old moshy well, Toshiya immediately stepped over it and entered the dark room which only got a light from the shining moon on the night sky. He really wanted to see the older boy, in the hope of getting answers to what has happened recently and hug his friend when he cries. Toshiya must admit that he miss Daisuke. But sadly, the boy couldn't find a tall figure with tired eyes. Toshiya scanned every corner of the room and furrowed his eyebrows. "Where is he?"
It's just that the room is a mess. Books scattered on the floor messily, dirty clothes which seems to be unwashed hanging everywhere, even there's a food which looked it has been sitting on Daisuke's table for a few days because it was stink. Toshiya called his friend's name repeatedly, of course softly. He didn't want to wake Mrs. Andou. There was no response from Daisuke. The hut of owls were the only thing that responded to Toshiya's call. He still feels uneasy about this. He didn't know anything at all about Daisuke for more than a week. "Is he even home?" Toshiya was thinking he could phone Daisuke to just remember that he doesn't even have money to afford one.
Suddenly the night wind blew so hard that it pierced Toshiya's bones and made him regret that he wasn't wearing a thick jacket. The wind was strong enough to move the bedroom window and slammed it hard enough to startle Toshiya. Toshiya realized that the wind had made the scattered books flip through the pages. Out of the corner of his eye, he looked at one of the books that he thought were 'unnatural'. He came closer and picked up the book from the floor and stared at it. "What's this?"
The book looks like it has been brutaliy scribbled with high emotional feelings. Many of the pages where the writing was unreadable because the black ink on the pages was enough to cover what was in the book. Toshiya flipped through several pages and found that there were several pages where the graffiti had become torn. "Dai-chan.. what's going on..?"
Toshiya remembered Daisuke's job and thought for a moment that maybe he really wasn't home from work yet. Hoping his friend would come home, he climbed into Daisuke's bed and laid down on his back. When he opened his eyes, he looked at the clock on his cellphone which showed it's already 2 in the morning. But the sign of his friend is still unknown. "Where are you, stupid..." Desperate, he returned home.
That morning, Toshiya looked very lethargic, he walked with his head down. It felt like he didn't want to come to school knowing Daisuke wouldn't sit next to him again. Toshiya's steps stopped when he saw a pair of high heels in front of him. He looked up and saw Tanaka-sensei standing in front of him. Toshiya looked at her face lazily and yawned after. When he returned home from Daisuke's hut, he couldn't sleep, so he played video games until the sun hits the earth.
"Hara-kun, you're Andou's close friend, right? Where did he go??? School already warned him that if he breaks the rules again, he will be expelled soon."
Toshiya feels like punching himself. Close friend?? He doesn't know where Daisuke is. Maybe in the fields, in the river, in the outer village, somewhere. He feels hopeless. Hell, even he wants to look for Daisuke in his job's place, he doesn't know where is it. What kind of friend is Toshiya?? "Sorry.. Tanaka-sense.. I haven't seen him either... since Friday last week" Toshiya responded in a weak tone. That just made the woman furrowes her eyebrows in frustation.
"That brat! Doesn't he know he's a burden to his mother?! Huh! Hara-kun, I know you're a good kid. Don't be like Andou, he's a bad figure for you. You're a honor student-."
"Sorry if I'm being presumptuous, Tanaka-sensei, but you also don't know his family condition right now! So you better shut yo-"
"Oh, bullshit. Yesterday I saw him cycling through the east bridge"
"East bridge? That's near the river where my shoes was-"
"-kun? Hara-kun?" Tanaka-sensei waved her hand on Toshiya's face because he was kind of spacing out. After Toshiya realized it, he just said sorry and left the woman, ignoring her calls. He made up his mind, after school he made a two-foot run through the sugar cane fields until he arrived at the bridge near the river. He was out of breath so he sat down on the metal brace. Wiping his sweat, he waits for someone with a tan skin, slim body, and defined cheekbones, riding an old 80's bicycle.
Toshiya waited and waited, until the sun had dimmed and was about to sink in the far west. At first he felt that Daisuke's figure would not arrive, until from the corner of his eye he saw an object that was none other than the old bicycle he had been waiting for. "Dai-chan.."
From a far distance, the boy who was riding the bike thought the figure on the bridge was his friend, so he accelerated pedaling. Instead of stopping in front of Toshiya, he just passed him with a speed. Toshiya, who noticed that his friend was speeding still, was actually a little confused. But Daisuke still doesn't want to stop his vehicle, so he has to run after Daisuke by grabbing the back saddle of the bicycle, but he still can't reach it.
"Oi, Dai-chan!!! Stop!!" He screamed Daisuke's name over and over again but the boy who got his name called ignored it, he keeps pedalling and not caring the boy who's behind him. Toshiya ran and screamed until finally he feels like fainting. His chest was really tight and his legs were weak. Toshiya was almost fed up with all of this, he stopped far behind Daisuke. He bent down holding his knees, sweat dripping profusely all over his body. Maybe he can't put on his uniform tomorrow because the smell of sweat will stick. Despite all that, he just focused his gaze on the object in front of him that was still speeding, and with all his might he shouted "Daisuke, IDI****T!!!! STUP*D!!!! Stop there you F*CK*NG PIECE OF SH*T!!!"

A Day in the Life of…Us? - Part 16/30: Recreate First Date
Tumblr media
Date Night?
The letter contained only those two words followed by a time and place. James knew the place by address alone and he knew it didn't sound like the ideal place for a date. Not that this stopped him from going, by any means. He apparated right into the sitting room of the Shrieking Shack at the correct time without a contrary thought otherwise. It had been days since their picnic. He missed Teddy too much to think rationally.
Their date was set for late at night, after sunset and just as the full moon was reaching its high point in the night sky. It seeped through the broken windows and bathed James' path along the squeaky floorboards. If he wasn't stuck on thinking about how eerie it was, this might have felt romantic. Maybe. "Teds?" he called out, unable to help the small shiver that ran down his back. "Teddy, are you here?"
Above him, footsteps tracked audibly towards the stairs. James followed them and ended up wearing a relieving grin as Teddy appeared at the top. "What are we doing here?" James laughed as he ascended the rickety stairs, only a minuscule shake to his voice.
"Making new memories."
The realization hit James like a ton of bricks and he nearly missed a step. This was their first, real date. This had also been the location of Teddy's first date with Victoire, as he well knew. And he really wasn't sure how to process those two facts together…. "New memories," he pondered, now on the landing in front of Teddy. As if of it's own accord, his hand came up to rest on the man's chest. But he wasn't pushing him away this time. "Please don't try to replace every memory of her with me…."
Teddy's arms settled around James waist and it took everything in him not to melt right in that spot. "New memories," Teddy repeated, his lips in James' hair. "This spot means a lot to me and I just want to share that with you. Okay?"
His hesitation dissipating, James nodded and sank into the touch. "Show me what's so special, then."
James had been to the Shrieking Shack exactly two times before. Both of these times had been by the guide of the Marauder's Map and both of these times he had stayed for less than five minutes. The place creeped him out, not by reputation because he knew it all to be complete bullshit, but because it was just…eerie. Wind howled through its many cracks, half of the flooring felt like a person might fall right through, and every corner looked full of sinister shadows. All of this gave off a 'stay away' vibe that had him fully on board.
But as Teddy took him around the little house and showed him every part that reminded him of his family, his view of the place began to shift. He wondered if Victoire had been shown the claw marks on the walls or knew the exact spot Remus had proposed to Tonks in front of a roaring fire. He wondered if she had cared. He wondered if she had come to love this place, too, for the memories it could provide Teddy for the parents he never knew.
"I come here to think a lot," Teddy mused as they settled onto the recently cleaned rug in front of the fireplace in what used to be a library. "Especially during the full moon." The window bore no curtains and was perfect for watching the brilliant orange of the moon lighting the town below. "I feel…. I feel closest to him then. My dad." He smiled, but it held a definitive sadness. "I don't turn – I don't know if you knew that – but I do feel the moon. I feel it pulling at something deep inside of me. I feel it urging me to bask in its glow; to strip down and run naked through the woods." His cheeks tinged pink around the glow of the fire and James was helpless to resist pressing his lips against the heated flesh. "I never do. I have self-control. I'm lucky enough to have self-control."
The world 'lucky' stood out and James couldn't believe in it more. "We're all pretty fortunate to have been born into the world we were," he added softly, slipping his fingers through Teddy's in what he hoped was a comfortingly tight grip. "Our parents didn't have it easy. But they fought for the peace we grew up in. I think that's something to be proud of…as difficult as it can be to miss the ones who didn't get to grow with us."
As if to echo the somber tone, the house settled and made a concerning noise. James snuggled closer to Teddy both for warmth and comfort and was greeted with Teddy's satisfied sigh. "This is why I love you. You get it."
It was James' turn to go red, but he by no means shied away from mumbling back those three oh-so-important words.
He did get it. He knew the sacrifices everyone made to give them this future…there were no words to explain their importance. Being in this house with Teddy, building new memories on top of all those already laid by those who came before them, made that feeling all the more real.
Once again, James had to wonder how he stood up against Victoire and her date here. That had been so many years ago. So many versions of Teddy and herself ago. When she was thirteen, did this pressure feel as real? Would it have to James? He'd never really know, so he held tighter and closed his eyes, sinking into the moment. Knowing he would remember this forever.
