Has anyone else considered this might be David Talbot? He has the right look. He seems to know Louis & Armand pretty well to say "You fear Armand.. You should fear the other one."
Personally David was one of my favorite characters. Love the dynamic with Lestat. I hope they bring him into it.
"I'm going to do it to you David." I can't tell how far my drink went when I read that.

After tanning session at the Gobi, Lestat flew to Talamasca in London and slept naked in the library.
I always imagine roaring fireplace to keep him warm. David Talbot gave him a flannel blanket, but why should we cover Lestat's cakes.

The Real Talamasca
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Back when I was about fourteen and heavily obsessed with Anne Rice I discovered her Talamasca (the organization for studying and researching the paranormal) was real.
They aren't called the Talamasca though. They are The SPR (Society for psychical Research). The American version is the ASPR. I follow The SPR here on Facebook.
And from what I remember they sometimes get annoyed when people realize they're who The Talamasca is based on.
Tumblr media
Also the Talamasca motto is "We watch and we are always here."
The 1992 TV series for Highlander had an organization called The Watchers with the motto "We observe and record but never interfere." inspired by the Talamasca.
Ironically when the movie Queen of the Damned came out, they accidentally had the mottos mixed up and The Talamasca used The Watcher motto.
Tumblr media
The Watcher logo was a stylized W within a circle. Funny enough, the SPR logo is the Psi letter inside a circle similar to The Watcher logo from Highlander: The Series.
Fake punch-out Talamasca business cards used to come with The Witching Hour comic book adaptation. I stupidly took them out and kept one and gave the other to someone else. (One issue of The Witching Hour comic came with two Talamasca cards.)
Tumblr media
The comic is long out of print and the company that published it went defunct in the 90s. Innovation Comics.

One of the funniest parts of Queen of the Damned is when Armand and Daniel see Jesse at the concert hall, and Armand immediately recognizes her as Talamasca, and Daniel is all, "That's a cool word, what does it mean?" And Armand is just like, "It means Lestat is a fool!"
Armand totally knows exactly who and what the Talamasca are, and what they do, and he is just so fucking done. Lestat is going through with his concert and they're probably all going to die, and now to add insult to injury, the Talamasca are there to record everything and probably ransack their vampire corpses for their collection afterward, and he's 100% over it.
I also love that Daniel is just obsessed with how cool the word sounds. Dude is so high on being a vampire for ENTIRE DAYS after being turned and it's so great.

I think it'd be incredible if the Talamasca show was focused on Jesse (or at least had her as a regular character), and as the seasons went by both IWTV and it would get into the events of Queen of the Damned and naturally cross-over.
They've talked about how they want to keep Loustat at focus on IWTV, so it'd make sense to do other shows in the same universe focused on other characters. In fact I was thinking maybe Night Island would be a future Armand spin-off and I'm a bit disappointed that it's not...
The Queen of the Damned is probably a very hard book to adapt and building a "shared universe" where the episodes of different shows can be parts/tie-ins of an overarching plot they share would be a great way to do it without shafting almost everything about it.
Like they've been marketing this ~immortal universe~ thing, but afaik the shows as they are now feel completely unrelated. This could be a way to actually deliver on that whole thing. Even in a seemingly unrelated first few seasons, just seeing characters like Jesse and David (maybe even Maharet) would make the show actually feel like a IWTV spin-off, since we "know" these characters should eventually be on the show (well, theoretically that would be the case for Rowan and IG other MW characters too, but I haven't read the books where that happens and from what I've heard they might not even want to really adapt them at all? lol).
I said when I had read QOTD that from Jesse's chapter she could be like the protagonist of her own YA series and it'd be crazy for that to actually come true in a way.
Kinda feel like they're most likely just gonna throw in some OCs or whatever and I'll be left disappointed though... 😞

wake up bitches my new theory just dropped!!
- we're in armand's place (the technology, the airline arrangements, the cult-like atmosphere, marius' paintings... the whole thing just screams armand, plus we need them to meet so they can be together yknow)
- david is here somehow (they talked about introducing a qotd character, he had access to claudia's journals from the talamasca, probably lured louis in)
- the whole point of the interview has to do with lestat (getting him to come out if he's locked somewhere? waking him up? they don't know if he's alive? im not sure about that part yet, but it sure has to do with "the great conversion", whatever that is)

My Mayfair Meltdown
Suzanne summoned (Invoked? Created?) Lasher, who attached himself to her and her female lineage, and is now with Deirdre. Over centuries, this symbiosis has allowed the Mayfair Legacy to amass a significant fortune. The Legacy has one significant stipulation: to benefit from it, you must maintain the name Mayfair.
This is why Ellie and Rowan FIELDING set my hair on fire.
The Talamasca is an ancient organization of scholars and archivists. “We watch And we are always here”. They do not interfere.
This is why Ellie asking Cip for PROTECTION set my eyebrows on fire.
Those are some pretty definitive core things that just went out the window. Whatever.
No use bitching about it further. Now, it’s time for me to take my bald, eyebrowless ass to the couch, stick a straw in a box of wine, and see where this thing takes me.

Something something about the sequence of "Marius de Romanus, Venitian contemporary of Tintoretto's", "The Groan" and "I serve a god" in the very same dialogue exchange + Real Rashid + Marius burning Eudoxia's acolyte Rashid + Eudoxia wanting to take TWMBK for herself + the way Children of the Millennia worshipped Akasha + Teskhamen being part of Akasha's original cult, the founder of the Talamasca and Marius' maker + the Talamasca finding Marius' painting + these paintings hanging in Dubai
I sound schizophreinc but I swear I'm not. I feel like I'm onto something that I can't fully grasp yet but something like the show merging the concept of Marius and the Talamasca together somehow??? I don't know I need to watch S2 right now😭😭😭
Alright *cracks knuckles* :)
So I am (not sure if you know but probably) firmly in the team "Marius is somewhere around and TWMBK are in the basement. And Lestat is probably there in his coma as well.".
For me (myself and I) all the hints point to that.
The painting, the comment re the prime minister, the groan, Fareed, Armand's little comment re serving a god. If the groan is Armand being annoyed or TWMBK will be something that will be interesting to see, but...
I really do not think you schizophrenic :)))
Marius has ties to the Talamasca (Raymond Galant), not only through his maker (though that is indeed a rather strong tie) but also through his contacts to it through the ages.
I absolutely believe that some of his painting will play a rather important role still in the show(s), especially since the set design emphasizes their meaning so much.
So yes. Marius' painting(s) in Dubai. I would bet anything that there are (at least a few) more in the basement. I would bet a lot that there is more than furniture in the basement, too. (In fact I think @cbrownjc might be right on the track in their fic installment, but that just as a note, this aligns to 99% with what I expect as well^^).
It's just the setup of it all. It carries meaning.
Like, Armand wouldn't hang that painting if some things haven't happened. And, as much as he loves/hates/wants Lestat... would he say Lestat is a god? Then again, him being sun-proof (and Louis not) puts us in such an interesting time frame in the books.... and that little easter-egg/hint with the "Book of Hours", too... because remember where that was mentioned?? Right, in Memnoch. By DAVID. David, who implies that they, aka the Talamasca, were tracking said Book of Hours... which had been lost in Berlin in the Second World War. (Btw, I will forever and for all time adore them if Louis just happens to lose some luggage with that darn book on his and Claudia's travels. Seriously. Please.)
Fareed and Seth... and Gregory. And Teskhamen. And Raymond. Hesketh. The Talamasca. Gregory's pharmaceutical empire and Fareed's research. (Which could easily produce special medicine for Daniel). Seth, Akasha's son. The paintings in the living room depicting "mother and daughter"... and "twins".
It's all connected.
And I mean.... knowing the last books... it's not really a far stretch that Marius is involved with the Talamasca. Leads them even, maybe :))))
The show is building up the lore in a quite incredible way, imho. I just hope they do not lose sight of all the threads, because this... if it unfolds over the next seasons as I suspect it will??? ... will be breathtaking.

So a couple folks mentioned wanting to know more about Armand's previous encounters with the Talamasca in the notes of my QotD post which got me thinking. I'm sure he's had occasion to encounter them a lot but...
Daniel finds him (or rather, Armand finds Daniel) at Lestat's house in New Orleans, so Armand has been there for a while. Yes, Daniel is playing the tapes of Louis' interview but honestly I think that just served to pique Armand's interest. He could have just sat there and thought of Lestat for a while and Armand would have eventually heard. Armand is good at the mind gift mental teleplathy. He was clearly watching the house (and possibly other places in the city) or at least near enough that he'd have picked up on such thoughts.
After Armand finds him, he locks Daniel in the cellar for three days and presumably uses that time to find out who Daniel is. He learns about his book in progress based on the interview and probably where he worked before he abandoned his job to find vampires, that kind of thing.
(I desperately want to believe he also called Louis during this time and was like "What the fuck, man? You're just letting people record you as you ramble about me and Lestat now? Airing our dirty laundry to mortals with tape recorders?" except there is no way at this point in time Louis even has a telephone, so alas, that did not happen.)
Armand lets Daniel go for a variety of reasons but I suspect one of them is that Armand has confirmed he's not working for the Talamasca. Like he's not going to let them have those tapes. Some random innocent fool, sure, but he wouldn't want the tapes in the Talamasca archive.
Even though Jesse was basing her investigation on the books (and Lestat's albums and Lestat himself), there's no way other Talamascans hadn't gone to New Orleans before her, heard/found stories about strange deaths in old newspapers or vampire stories in old journals and traced them to Lestat's name, and then found his addresses in the public records, just like Daniel did.
So my theory is that Armand was around and found the Talamasca investigators in Lestat's house or other relevant locations they may have found, and he killed them before they could ransack whatever junk was left in the attic and learned all about their organization that way, or at least learned more than he knew previously.
