Malware Update: What We Know Now To recap, here are the mods we know for sure were affected by the recent malware outbreak: "Cult Mod v2" uploaded to ModTheSims by PimpMySims (impostor account) "Social Events - Unlimited Time" uploaded to CurseForge by MySims4 (single-use account) "Weather and Forecast Cheat Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Seasons Cheats Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account)

Due to this malware using an exe file, we believe that anyone using a Mac or Linux device is completely unaffected by this.

If the exe file was downloaded and executed on your Windows device, it has likely stolen a vast amount of your data and saved passwords from your operating system, your internet browser (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox, and more all affected), Discord, Steam, Telegram, and certain crypto wallets. Thank you to anadius for decompiling the exe.

To quickly check if you have been compromised, press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run window. Enter %AppData%/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/UserData in the prompt and hit OK. This will open up the folder the malware was using. If there is a file in this folder called Updater.exe, you have unfortunately fallen victim to the malware. We are unware at this time if the malware has any function which would delete the file at a later time to cover its tracks.

To quickly remove the malware from your computer, Overwolf has put together a cleaner program to deal with it. This program should work even if you downloaded the malware outside of CurseForge. Download SimsVirusCleaner.exe from their github page linked here and run it. Once it has finished, it will give you an output about whether any files have been removed.

women are cutting their hair off and burning their scarves in the streets to show that they had enough all the while police attack people and teargas or shoot them.

now i am a teacher and an employee to the government, which in short terms means they have me on a leash and control my every move, otherwise ill be outed and dealt with, especially since im not a “straight woman” and for that alone i could get a death sentence let alone if they ever find what im drawing online...

therefore i may have to delete some posts or just make my accounts on different platforms private for a while until this all blows off because these fuckers DO snoop around peoples medias online. me and my dad work for the government and we have to go to the cities for work all the while there are gunshots being fired and police going around the place,

I have been sent a dm by @wisteria-chan that informed me about a telegram channel that translated my Shio smut without my permission nor did it credit me anywhere, and apparently they have also been banning users that linked my work.

I have also changed it back to english to double check and it's the same as my fic, translated word by word ->

I don't have telegram so i can't speak to them nor am i alowed to report them, i could contact telegram team but i would rather we talked so they can take it down or at the very least add my authorisation rights, but if i couldn't be in touch with this user within 24 hours i will take the proper measurements to have telegram team take it down and ban them, if this person is reading this right now, it's your choice how it's gonna be, either you delete it on your own, send me a dm to settle things, or i will take matters into my own hands.

I've mentioned Telegram before and I'll mention it again. It's not structured the same way Discord is but it basically has everything Discord does. Except usually better, and usually free.

extremely privacy-forward (special encrypted chats, auto-delete messages and accounts, etc)

UI is extremely customizable (mine's a silverish pink with a tropical bg)

sticker packs are free to make, use, and share. they're also higher quality than discord emotes.

it's cross-platform (has both a desktop and mobile app)

group chats are easy to make

a little confusing to understand what everything is at first but ain't they all

however I know Telegram ain't for everyone. I get that. SO.

If you're looking for something kinda like Telegram, LINE is also apparently alright! I've never heard anything bad about it, at least. There's also Escargot.chat, a MSN revitalism project. I'm pretty sure it's super undeground or else I'd probably be using it too.

couple of things re: the blackout protest

if you don't think it's a good idea, or can't do it for whatever reason... just don't do it then

i'm not asking people to delete their accounts or blogs, just not use tumblr for some time

not using mobile but still using desktop / web defeats the purpose of a blackout

i'm still working on a place for everyone interested in the blackout to come together and brainstorm, give updates etc. suggestions at this point include telegram, discord, a forum (e.g. proboards), a google doc (likely would become very big and unwieldy quickly)...

we also need a place for staff to contact us, in the event of an actual conversation (which is what needs to happen)

this is a work in progress! we still have 11 days (my time) to figure this out before June 30th, and if the notes are anything to go by, there's a whole heap of people interested.

and in the end... this is a social media website, it's a great place but it's not a high stake strike where we're asking for wage increases to keep up with the cost of living. we're asking a website (that may be defunct in 5, 10, 20 years!) to make some improvements and undo some harm. great if it works, sucks if it doesn't, but it's honestly not as high risk as some people seem to be making it out to be.
