I fucking did it again
And by "it" I mean opening a document in my "Yo Han's POV" folder of Who Holds the Devil and stumbling over a section I'd forgotten I'd written (or blocked out, more likely). So, for your enjoyment in these trying post-chapter 39 times:
"Sometimes, Yo Han wondered what that must feel like — to be loved so fiercely and wholeheartedly by someone else. Especially someone like Ga On, whose emotions were as wild and unstoppable as they were genuine. He couldn't seem to curb them even if he tried.
It must be breathtaking to be loved by someone like him.
And, blinded by his own idiocy, Yo Han had allowed himself to hope. For a little while, he'd honestly thought he had a chance — that he might get to find out what that would be like. That, just maybe, the emotions he saw flashing past in Ga On's eyes meant something.
He should have known better."

"It wasn't time that did it."
Joel’s voice is so shaky and small, yet somehow full of so much fucking emotion that Ellie thinks she might get crushed underneath it all. If the thought didn’t scare the shit out of her, she thinks she would call it love. Love and care and trust and all of that other gooey shit that made her want to burst into tears at the very thought. Now, Joel sits in front of her, baring his fucking soul to her, and she suddenly gets what Riley meant all those months ago. Ellie didn’t belong anywhere. Not until Joel. Maybe it was fate, maybe it’s just plain luck. Whatever it is, he flinched all those years ago, and she survived that bite, and they’ve been hurtling towards this moment ever since.
The one where Joel chokes on his words, and she feels every ounce of the unsaid words. Time didn’t heal his wounds. She did. Because she’s his. And he’s hers. Because they somehow found each other in this terrible fucking world, and nobody has ever made her feel like this. Safety. Belonging.
She isn’t sure what to say. Isn’t really sure if there’s anything she can say. Ellie just hopes he can tell how much this fucking means to her. How much he means to her. He’s everything. He’s been everything for months now. The way he’s looking at her now, like she’s his everything too, it might make her start crying. There aren’t words to describe this. Not ones she’s been taught. Not ones anyone has said to her before. Maybe there were words for this twenty years ago. Maybe there are even words for it still, just not used for people like her. She’s too rough for anyone to get too close to.
Anyone except Joel. They match like that. Too rough and stubborn for their own good. They match. She’ll hurt for him, and he’ll tear up a town for her, and they’ll find their way back to each other. They always do. They always will.
All those months ago, he said she wasn’t his daughter, and he sure as hell wasn’t her dad. That doesn’t really feel true anymore. It hasn’t felt true since Silver Lake. Since she threw herself into his arms and he whispered soft promises and terms of endearment as he held her. It didn’t even really feel true when he said it, if she’s being honest. Things like fathers and daughters, that won’t ever be something she truly understands, but she thinks this is the closest she’ll ever get.
No. She knows this is the closest she'll ever get. Because, even if they don't address, even if the thought makes her feel a bit like she's wearing a too tight-too itchy wool sweater, they're family. They belong.
“Oh,” Ellie breathes out finally.
The words go unspoken. They both understand regardless.

How'd you end up here?
"What show was THE show that started you on this journey into Asian queer media?" I'll go first:
Korea's 2007 The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince - An irresponsible bachelor pretends to be gay so he can avoid blind dates arranged by his grandma. He hires a deliveryman to be his lover, not knowing that she is actually a woman.
It's not gay, but it kind of is... *shrugs in confusion*
Because the lead is having a gay crisis for the first twelve episodes of the show believing that he is truly falling for a guy. *idiot*
Like, being kind of creepy, gay crisis *super creepy*
And then was VERY upset when he found out she was a woman *strange amount of anger*
Which made it easier to cheer for the second lead because he was very cool and gave the "you dress tomboy-ish and I like it" energy *they were already living that rainbow life!*
Well, until this woman in the white entered the picture, who both male leads were in love with
*that person who looks like they crawled out of The Ring is our female lead who is trying to hide that she is actually a woman from her boss (the first male lead) even though she is on a date with the second male lead who is trying to make that woman in white jealous* MESSY!
But in the end, everything ended well, and the male lead successfully got his not-a-guy lover
And was very happy and out about it

for the sake of consistency I feel compelled to point this out: I feel like I'm seeing a warped false dichotomy-ish thing spring up where people are responding to the "tiktok is a national security threat to america" hysteria with a counter that american software companies collect data about users, largely for advertising purposes, which is true!
but some of this seems to wrap around to an assumption that tiktok doesn't engage in garden-variety data collection for any reason at all... except they very much do lol. because tiktok is also an advertising platform at its core, to the tune of $11B of revenue in 2022. which I'm not trying to offer as a gotcha, just that I wouldn't be all "well you gotta hand it to them" about data collection practices in the same breath that you lampoon american companies' practices because tiktok's functionally not much different from any other advertising-supported platform in that regard.
WHICH, IMPORTANT CAVEAT, is a completely neutral statement on my part. not only am I famously pretty lukewarm on the privacy threat posed by advertising data, but also what I'm trying to get at here is that tiktok's data collection serves the exact same purpose as any other big platform's data collection, which is Making Money. it's all the same. you could even argue that the big monolithic publishers like tiktok/reddit/facebook/google who source their own buyers are less leaky (and therefore less problematic in general) because their supply chains don't include a million third-party ad platforms per auction, and those third-party middlemen are often the ones who sell shit to data brokers, so tiktok's closed advertising ecosystem is actually better than some of these publishers with miles-long ads.txt files who'll do business with anybody.
but like, for example: pixel tracking is a common way to track ad conversions by measuring how many users click on ads and do stuff on the website that the ad leads to. facebook has the facebook meta pixel, reddit has the reddit pixel, tiktok has the tiktok pixel... exact same tech. exact same reason. no espionage, just ads for those mobile games where you're trying to solve a weird maze thing before some guy drowns in lava

Idk how me, a broad and chubby woman from a long line of broad and chubby women, and my husband, an average-height man from long lines of very tiny women and very average men, managed to produce a child so exceptionally tall, long, & lean that she can't wear store-bought clothes anymore without alteration. Yet here I am, dusting off a sewing machine I barely know how to operate....

Please judge Bill!
This one? Found grumping in the desert??
He's like candyfloss with jaggedy lurking stuff inside.
Like, he will fuckin bite. And honestly, that's a sensible reaction in a lot of the situations he ends up in. Which, well... He joined the SAS. He shouldn't be surprised. I think he's genuinely surprised to be the sole voice of reason so often, though. The burden he bears... Tragic. Won't someone help him carry it??
Looks: 10/10
Sanity: possibly critically endangered/10
Derangement: 8/10 (he did join the SAS...)
Untapped ferocity: 18/10
Other: +342 for sticking up for the rank & file
Total: underappreciated cutie/10
I have enjoyed contemplating/judging him (let's be real, he's a very good Judge of Things, and I 100% respect that). I get the feeling he's one for the Society of Underappreciated Characters' Champions (SUCCers). Have you suffered an injury at work? Has the burden of carrying an entire unit of dumbasses left you with a bad back, aching shoulders, and a long, weary sigh others mistake for the worn creak of time? If so, Bill Fraser may be the character for you. Watch SAS: Rogue Heroes today, and see if He's the answer to all your problems!

apparently for the acts "Remind" and "Focus" in their respective phases there's supposed to be a second line of dialogue, but it's just not written out
