OPERATION SHOW NORMAN REEDUS SOME LOVE

Hello and welcome to my project for Norman Reedus, this is a FAN project, organised by myself. 

I am creating a book for Norman, filled with positive messages to show our appreciation, love and support for him. 

The aim of the project is to create an actual physical book which is overflowing with positive, inspirational and heartwarming content for Norman to read and I would love for as many of his fans as possible to take part.

If you would like to take part in my project, please submit messages, fan art, letters, quotes, poems, drawings etc to be printed in the book, all information can be found below or on my pinned posts via Instagram. 

Please be aware that I do not condone any negative, hateful or disrespectful comments towards Norman AT ALL. 

I am solely organising and creating this project on my own but with support from others to share the page to reach more fans. This is the ONLY book project for Norman.

THE MISSION:

I am creating this book for Norman which will be overflowing with positive, inspirational and heart warming content for Norman to read.

I want to give everyone of his fans the opportunity to submit something beautiful for Norman. This can be in the form of photos, collages, poems, a letter or message, fan art etc explaining how you find him inspirational, how he’s helped you, why you think he’s such an amazing human…ANYTHING! Just show the man some love.

Please be aware that I do not condone any negative, hateful or disrespectful comments towards Norman AT ALL.

Once all submissions are received 4 x physical copies will be made and a digital version will be created for everyone who has taken part to see and one of the physical copies will be given to Norman SOMEHOW that is my mission.

Here we go again...

I'm going to echo what I said on Twitter about "The Big Three" post on my blog since this is where I feel safe speaking up. I'm very sorry I had to direct it at Valhalla who have been Melissa/Carol/Caryl fans' biggest ally on social media up to this point, even using #TheBookofCarol tag to let us know they see her as the main protagonist that she is. I'm also very sorry that as of today, we've reached the two-year mark since the news of the original spinoff's cancelation and this fandom still has to fight for the respect that they and Melissa herself have more than earned. Again, this is why we need a new showrunner with the intuition and authority to change the messaging on the show and on SM, so that Caryl fans not only feel safe, but also eager to watch, pay for, and engage with new material.

I saw that Valhalla acknowledged Carylers' complaints on their post. I wasn't expecting that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any other official account has ever put the needs of the fans over their own need to save face, so I respect and appreciate that. The comments were filling up with voices from other parts of the fandom trying to give Valhalla an out, but it's easy for them to ignore or in some instances mock the issue because their favorite character is represented and they get the satisfaction of a character they hate being left out and her fans being upset about it. It's easy and probably fun for them to accuse us of throwing tantrums, invalidating a very real source of pain for many of us.

There is a long history of fandom bullying and ageism directed at Melissa/Carol/Caryl and their fans to the point of many people, including Melissa herself, having to leave SM. The other factions claim we're a minority, but in reality we're just less active in public spaces because we're made to feel like we don't belong. Caryl fans are very much like the characters in that way and unfortunately other fans and other official accounts take advantage of that.

What happened exactly two years ago has broken our trust and our spirits even more. A lot of us are teetering on the edge of leaving because we're tired of being gaslit and strung along. We're vulnerable and we have triggers. In order to keep engaging with TWD content, we have to feel like its worth it, which means we need to know that the show and everyone affiliated are meeting our needs: that Melissa and Carol are acknowledged for the HUGE impact they've had in the story since S1, not how much they are marketed, and that Caryl is treated like a valid ship.

We need strong leadership for that. Valhalla is a female-led account, so they have the authority to tackle the issues that the actresses and their female fanbases face. A female showrunner would help with that as well. TBOC is fast-approaching. The promotion should focus on hyping the core audience of that show, not alienating them further. We deserve so much better. Melissa deserves so much better. Caryl deserver so much better.

Breaking down #TheBookofCarol sneak peek and teaser

Thought I’d summarize some of the thoughts I shared on the latest episode of @9lives2mics

As Shalaka extrapolated as well, there was a discernible difference in aura to both Daryl and Carol’s scenes. And I think fans are looking forward to a consistent through-line when it comes to how their individual stories are going to be told this season, until they reunite again.

Daryl seems to be preoccupied with the strife of those in France. His sneak peek is very ambiguous and action-focused, compared to Carol’s scene which is more explicit, emotion-driven, and gives us a sliver of that familiar angst as she is preoccupied with only the thoughts of finding him.

It was great and refreshing to see from her, but I definitely hope that there’s no part of the season where we feel that lapse in investment in Caryl when it comes to Daryl’s side of things. Carol should hopefully be on his mind increasingly leading up to the realization that she has come to France, to give us that overdue and satisfying payoff.

Even in the teaser opening with Isabelle, Daryl expressed frustration, in my opinion, about his still not being able to get home. But I expect that nuance was overshadowed for most by the positioning of that scene, where it appears to be a more intimate moment between Daryl and Isabelle.

I’m just saying, it’s an…interesting choice when most of the target audience for this is going to be anticipating Daryl and Carol interactions.

If I watch the BOC to support Melissa and others do too and the ratings improve over season 1, will that tell AMC they’re doing alright as it is? How do we signal TPTB that yes, we watch for Melissa but we want a different showrunner for next season?

If the ratings go up for TBOC, it tells AMC that Melissa and Carol are vital to the show and we definitely want that. For BIG improvements though, like 1M+ for live/same day ratings? For S3 to be successful? The show needs a good showrunner who really understands Daryl's and Carol's characters as well as their relationship because that's what will keep their fans coming back for more of what they love and even bring back fans who dropped off a long time ago when quality Caryl content became scarce. AMC may think Carol just being there is enough of a hook (that's what happens when they make her fans worry for more than a year that they may never see her again), but Melissa cares about Carol's and Caryl's story integrity and so do we.

The way we signal that is by being vocal about it. We say what we want and don't want just like we did two years ago when Melissa was pushed out. See how that turned out? If you didn't like Zabel's writing in S1, say so and say why. If you're angry about something, talk about it. If you want a new showrunner, Caryl canon etc., talk about it. I understand there's this stigma around being "negative" and people are worried about losing an impossible war with antis or insulting Melissa, but 1) those are all just projections and 2) it's people's actual job at AMC to take their audience's temperature. If there's a lot of people letting them know how they really feel about something, that gives them an incentive to change it if we're responding negatively or give us more of something if we're responding positively. Tumblr is a much safer place for open discussion if you want to start there. If you tweet or comment on the official accounts' tweets, use relevant hashtags like #TheBookofCarol, #TWDCaryl. Frame your opinions however you're comfortable. Constructive criticism is good (I'm tired of shipbaiting because...) or you can try a more "positive" approach (I'm ready for canon because...). Either way, your voice matters. We're getting a TBOC sneak peek this weekend, so that presents a good opportunity to say everything you're excited about, hoping for, or need to keep tuning in.
