Taemin leaving SM; a retrospective rant from a severely uneducated and overly caffeinated fan.
I have thoughts about Taemin leaving SM and by extention Onew too. Might as well drag Minho and Key into this.
Since this is majorly about Taemin, let's talk about him first.
Taemin & SM (pre-NGDA era)
Taemin has been with the company for 16 years, closer to 19 if you count his trainee days. As an older shawol (LLO-era, got me whipped BAD), it was seriously out of the blue that Taemin would be the first to debut solo. SM at the time (i.e in their prime) was a vocal powerhouse and I genuinely thought Jonghyun would be the first one to go solo. SM made the right decision dedicating time and resources in letting him shine and 'Ace' was a phenomenal debut album for Taemin and really stamped that 'Taemin vibe/sound' we all know and love' Generally speaking SM not the best for promotions/scheduling, but the company still had their shit together when 'Move' came out, it felt like it was everywhere and surpassed the noteriety Guilty had achieved. I feel like when Taemin does variety shows, up to now, Move was always the most referenced and remembered act, even amongst the junior idols, that he did and thats because SM did go hard on promoting that song and picked a quiet month to do that comback in.
Taemin vs SM (during/post-NGDA era)
Somewhere along the lines, SM really dropped the ball with promoting Act 1 especially during Taemin's 'Criminal' comeback. They heavily prioritized their newer groups and suddenly their legendary acts were getting shafted with poor promotions and what felt like less dedicated management and resources. I recall, SM postponed the release for Criminal, squashed Taemin in Super-M activties and focused on their new acts while simultaneously over working them (honestly Mark has had such a hectic few years). My internal speculation/assumtion is that, SM figured that acts like SuJu, EXO, SHINee, GG and RV and solo/ duo units, wouldn't need as much dedicated promotions because they are iconic acts and they are fully dependant on fanbases to generate the buzz. Which leads me to my main hypothesis that after a few years of being active, SM really does not care about an artist anymore. Mind you artists that put them on the fucking map to begin with. SM won't double down on these artists because they believe they can't appeal to a younger audience. With the shitshow that was the Criminal promotions. SM really didn't do any better with 'Advice'. Pinning aespa's comeback a day before was a low blow instead of focusing on the talent that's about to go into the military, if they are aware enough to give Taemin a mini comeback so his relevancy sticks throughout his service, why damage it with an aespa release (that felt like it was to tactically avoid facing off the BTS release later than month) and basically doing NOTHING bar announcing pre-orders. Then we enter the 'Guilty' era. Which as we saw was a hit, but mainly because SM capitalized on the power of social media trends, placing Taemin in VARIOUS online contents and slowly dropped related media during winter. I mean we are still not over his 'Guilty' era, the Metamorph concert still has us at a chokehold. I 'd like to think that Taemin became more vocal in what he wanted and expected out of SM when he came back. Obviously the priority to them is/was SHINee and that's fair. DCM did really well with promos (althoughlike most shawols would say, LSM did have a major part to play with that). HOWEVER it was their 15th anniversary comeback last year and I feel like SM treated it like it was just another comeback instead of a major milestone. There were no interviews or press releases for Hard, when events were happening, it felt like it was gate kept to just local fans, like it made me feel like I was living under a rock because it was so last minute and I was not aware of anything. I want to believe that just because SM did an okay job now, excuses them for the last 3 years. What's worse is it's undeniable, Taemin lives to perform and it's no secret he sets some high goals and standard for himself and probably the toll 1) not getting to preform Guilty in GDA, despite wanting to and 2) probably not getting a solid backing for touring globally, despite very vocal fan support. I am not sure if anyone saw that SM forecast for the first two quarters of 2024, but it genuinely feels like Taemin knows that him and SHINee will not be a priority after promotions are finished. I hope I am not dense enough to assume that obviously SHINee has spoken about this privately and internally for a while now. It's really something you can't avoid talking about. Taemin has spoken to his hyungs, people in his circle inside and outside of the industry. Hopefully he is well informed and supported and it seems definite that SHINee is still active as a group.
Key vs SM.
Someone has already mentioned it but if anyone was leaving SM for creative freedom, I genuinely thought it would be Key. 'Bad Love' was an amazing release and Key fought with SM to release with his own brand/aesthetic. Because Taemin's imminent departure is so publicized, SM might be keeping the talks with Minho and Key super under wraps and trying to offer a btter deal. Although recently, bar Good and Great, SM has been using Key as a 'Variety' idol than an actual singer, which sucks because Key is super talented and if SM doesn't recognize that star power now, good luck to them. Also apparently, Kany is signed with BPM? I know she is close with SHInee in general, but I would assume it'd be Key joining her ya'know?
Minho vs SM.
Imma put it out there, the promotions for 'Stay for a Night' was lackluster? I feel like they treat solo Minho and SHINee Minho as two separate entities. Like yes there is a dualism of being a group preformer vs solo preformer. But on the rare occasion SHINee does get promoted Minho seems to get more attention, but as a solo artist, I don't feel the same love for his solo promotions. I hope Minho gets to write and contribute more, which I believe he does in the background. If he does stick to SM, I pray they open other avenues of artistry, primarily, he does really well with his acting roles and yes it really helps that he does fit the 'K-drama ML' look.
Onew vs SM
I feel like Onew gets the short-end of the stick out of the rest of SHINee, never mind that the man has the voice of an angel, but again, he is another one that SM never bothered to market right. It kind of make sense that he would want to leave the company and seek ones that would expand his career inside and outside of singing and while the one good thing SM did recently is make sure Onew was healing and taking care of himself, recent SHINee promo activities feels like they are treating Onew's break as a hush hush 'taboo topic' Honestly, bring back the era where our idols would randomly disappear during promotions because they were casted to be on-stage again. I am still forever clinging onto Onew singing opera, because despite him not being trained for that, he has the talent to do so. It'd be nice to hear him produce his own music, or give acting another shot.

theres something to be said about inherent human kindness and art and all that
i had an absolute trainwreck of a day and an hour long gap between classes, so i decided to plop by the local art store thats too far away from my home but maybe a 10min walk from school. they had really good prices and i wanted to buy the pretty pastel watercolors for myself and my friend, to make the day less miserable.
the storeworker, a kind-looking old man (surely at least in his 60s), picked up all the aquarelle boxes, saying he didnt want me, a seemingly abled person, to have to kneel on the floor to look at them. and he told me how he doesnt stock all the colors but he explained to me in detail, umprompted, how to order them for myself, with or without paying him. and he told me how hes owned this store for 28 years and hasnt changed locations (despite the location being horrible) because hes genuinely attached to this one. this shitty, tiny little hole in the wall place with no AC or even proper ventilation. and he started talking about his days as an artist, and all the incredible people he met, and how stores from the capital monopolizing certain brands ruined his once proud selection of products, and how to properly use watercolor paper, how to use distilled water and stick to one paper brand and how his personal dream is to get his hands on the aquarelles created only by and for that one russian college, and he treated me, a fucking infant baby child (18) whos been doing aquarelles for like two days (4 years) as a genuine peer and worthy conversation partner. and i almost started crying from the genuine love i felt for him.
and the day after, i got hungry between classes and decided to stop by the bakery. the bakery itself is overpriced - for the same price as other ones, you get maybe half the product. and its been closed for tax fraud maybe a month ago.
and this storeworker is an elder woman - not as old as the artist, but surely near or in her 50s - and she sometimes wears the bracelet i made her. the other students call her the "empress" of the store (named "empress"). she is the only reason i go there, and i only go when shes working the shift. at first it was because of the free food shed give us. shed always toss in a few cookies, she even remembered my favorite, and shed wish you a "royal" day (pun intended). soon, we started going there outside of the rush hours, and actually talking to her. her dream has always been to be an opera singer, but this is a poor country, and she has a sickly mother and a son who lives abroad to take care of. but she told us she found her fulfilment in work through the kindness she spread - not just the free food, but the compliments and kind words. and i almost cry every time i remember she didnt know she was so loved by the students. when i told her everybody only goes there for her, she actually didnt believe me, and when i noticed she dyed her hair (we now have similar haircolors!), she put it down and posed in front of the little hanging mirror with the biggest smile ive ever seen on her.
and i havent seen this person lately, im assuming because i havent been to one of the two places she frequents and she, probably, has, but theres this wonderful woman - i cant tell if shes old or worn down by hard work and stress - who always has the most vibrant, colorful jewelry and carries a little cardboard box.
and she approached me one day, i was going to meet up with some friends to talk about lord of the rings, and she stopped me to tell me how beautiful my hand made jewelry was. and she was holding a puppy under one arm, almost cartoonishly, and told me all about how she used to have a jewlery stand right here in this street. all of the money shes ever made shes invested in taking care of stray cats and dogs. even if it meant shed go hungry, she always made sure the animals she took care of were fed and warm and happy. but the stand was closed because of tax issues, and no cop was sympathetic towards the little kitten or puppy shed always take with her, so she was forced to make ends meet however she could and beg for money or pet food donations. and this wasnt her pressuring me for money - i hadnt even brought my wallet that day, i had my phone and some tea. this was her genuinely just wanting to stop and compliment me, and being delighted to have someone to talk to, and whenever i see people treat her like dirt i want to cry.
my point is, i met a painter and a singer and a craftsman, and all of them were the kindest people ive ever met. and i don't really look approachable, i usually only get hateful looks in public, but these three people, with far more experience than me, just genuinely wanted to talk about the things they cared about, and what they create, and i think creation makes you kinder. i think painting and singing and crafting, no matter if its a life long profession, a dream, or a failed venture, makes you more than the summ of all your parts. or something cringe like that idfk

8, 12, 21, 29 n 30 for miss telltale :)))
how did your character feel when they left home for the first time?
there was a brief moment of just... lots of intense terror and anger and pain and sadness. she wanted to run back home, or to at least say something to her little brother, or go back and burn everything to the ground, or to apologize, or or or. like... she was a child. she was just that day 16. like... she couldn't process ninety percent of what happened to her that night, and there's still a solid fifty or sixty that she hasn't processed at 23. but it was that first, and then despondence.
(and we’ll readmore the rest)
how loudly do they cry?
very quietly, and if anybody sees it, well, they've never mentioned seeing it to her.
has your character ever climbed out of a window? would they do it again?
yes and yes. first time, she was thirteen and struck by a sudden want for rebellion, but house guards caught her (on the verge of panic) before she could make it more than a mile away.
is there an artist whose style you associate with your character? (visual or otherwise; poets and musicians, etc. count)
visually... caspar david friedrich, just because she's a very capital R Romantic character, you know? poetically, though, i’d say i put a lot of glück in her, a lot of atwood. musically, the crane wives are consistently the best for her both lyrically and sonically.
how has your character's first impressions of their party members changed since they met them? have they stayed the same?
all of them.
alba: she was immediately distrustful of him for... several reasons. she stayed more distant from him than the others for a long time! but she did ultimately come to view him as... not a father figure, but rather, an older brother figure? even as he’s old enough to be her father, their dynamic was more equal than a father-child dynamic would imply. yeah. but. she really, really misses him, wishes that she had opened up to him sooner, and she prays she’s right about him still being alive in some form.
chanterelle: she has gone from admiring chanty to fully just being like. this is a child. and it is my job to protect him. because nobody protected me when i was alone at his age; because chanty is a good person; because chanty deserves a chance to heal from all that has gone wrong for him. but yeah the image of him as an unshakable healer boy waved pretty quickly. he’s sweet but he’s not as unbreakable as he first presents. there’s also the whole. “oh hey, i used to try to be the good kid and i failed terribly at it.” thing. which is a lot.
dyma: that first thought of pirate lady hot... has evolved into more than pirate lady hot. she thinks dyma is interesting, but she also knows that the two of them have very different philosophies on... you know, the strahd situation, the alba situation, and also just. how to live life. so. it’s complicated. she does really, really like dyma, and she’s gonna try and remember where the hell she’s heard dyma’s given name before.
juniper: there was an immediate kinship, of course. i don’t think her opinion of him shifted much; she’s always viewed him as someone else who is quiet and whose magic is sometimes beyond their control.... the issue with junie and ori, really, is that their dynamic was all about seeking comfort in each others’ silence, you know? so they never opened up to each other, beyond small glimpses--the discussion about lijaa language while ori drew and junie watched comes to mind. i think. when she brings him back. it’s going to be strange, because the loss of him kind of ripped her open. like i make jokes about how chanterelle knows more about ori than juniper ever did, but. he does.
klement: slight suspicion + concern has led into Thats My Boy and i will Protect Him. she can’t stand the fact that he keeps getting hurt; especially with the new abilities she’s been granted, she’s going to try and focus her healing on him. but yeah she has gone from “oh god that man is hurt” to this is my special guy and i am going to take twenty bullets for him. she is especially concerned with his mental state, because, like... she can continue treating the physical, of course, but. he’s been through a lot in a very short period of time.
pen:
and the fool, well, you recognize him in a way you can’t understand.
you like his little bells, however impractical; they catch light even in this dim tavern and send little reflections star-scattering everywhere. wide eyes, soft face, practiced charm that shows itself in barbs and bladed words; he is not terribly hard to read.
except:
he saves your life. it has not been too long since you met him, and you do not expect him to save you—he seems to see you as a protector, and you do not think he sees such a dynamic as one of equal exchange. but he saves your life. it is with a coldness and something that feels like the river, but he saves your life nevertheless.
and so on.

This is a shame that I feel angry and hurt enough to be writing this in an artist’s defense, but if the situation so demands then be it.
If all of you, who have been so quick to jump on the hate Suga, cancel Min Yoongi, BTS are hypocrites bandwagon, none of you must have paid any attention to the rest of the things this very person wrote and have been singing about. Sure thing that talking about struggles with fame, being rich can get annoying, but his songs have not been about that, its about the inner struggle of knowing the privilege, knowing that they and he himself are part of this mainstream narrative, but hating it at the same time. And that’s specifically how, narratives of change are sought out for, in case you didn’t know. The kind of society that we are living in has turned all of us into subjects of this discourse, thats capitalism for you. Does not mean that we like it, just because we are part of it. It takes a lot of strength for people to voice out opinions in certain situations regardless of the rightness or wrongness of their beliefs.
Yes, I definitely think that the controversial part should not have been a part of the song. But I also do believe that he as a person who has always voiced his support for ALL army regardless race, gender and ethnicity won’t put something like that out knowingly. Should better research have been made to go into it? Definitely. But make them understand where they went wrong, what things could have been dealt with better, instead of attacking and bullying an artist, whose songs have always been laced with support for every tired and confused soul out there. If you have become a fan for their music, you must have drawn out solace and comfort from their lyrics. So, if you took that, its time to be open to seeing the mistakes and correcting them, instead of this shaming and cancelling culture.
I feel immensely hurt to see KPoP being used only as some sort of niche fantasy where you can idolize these artists and not treat them as human beings. Also, educate about a country’s customs and cultures. Racism has been a long standing issue, and I don’t see people batting an eyelid when Asians are continuously ostracized. We don’t bully western artists about why they have kept their silence about the times muslims are continuously, mercilessly killed, any minority community facing inhuman torture in this part of the world, when every asian out there in the western world faces stereotyping. Because we understand there happens to be a greater politics at play here. When you become a public personality, for these KPOP artists, whether you like it or not, they do play a part in the country’s political image and representation.
And if you weren’t aware of all these and just became a fan for the pretty faces, do see yourself the fuck out.

SHE'S MY NOONA
Chapter 23
2 days passed as the couple continued dating secretly as no one knew of their secret except the boys who just mind their own business.
Jungkook was known to be single and not involved in a relationship but that he knew himself, he was always happy and with energy whenever they would see eachother from far or even in the elevator they would secretly hold hands while no one was watching or even kiss while no one was watching.
Tumblr media
It was little since he was now mostly surrounded by cameras but it was fun and worth it for the two.
............
It was once when BTS were called in the office after coming from a concert. The manager was woo fierce and angry.Min ah had never seen his uncle get that mad hence she knew it was serious and got worried for the boys.
" WHAT IS THIS!" The manager angrily cried at the boys throwing news papers on the desk for the boys to see. The heading was in capital and bolded ' Is BTS secretly seeing someone?' and there were pictures of couples in a car and walking together with hands locked.
The guys didn't know what to do since they all dated secretly and now they didn't except Jungkook who every member knew he was dating Min ah. So they knew it could have been anyone.
"Who is It? Tell me who is dating among all of you!!" Manager Park shouted as the boys had no answer "manager park it might be not us but a mistake... the faces are not even clearly seen." RM tried to defend them
" Are you saying it might be a mistake? You idiots this is taken from our company so the artist hear maybe you guys." He said ad he walked around his desk demanding for answers as his assistant watched.
Tumblr media
" it maybe Black pink wi-" " it can't be us we were doing a concert on this day while you guys were free from your schedule.. so that leaves us no choice but you." The girls budged in with their as Jennie also defended as she eyes Jungkook and his hyungs.
" since you won't tell me, I'll find out on my own and from now on ill keep watch on you. Tsk!..I'm very disappointed in you guys...if you are really dating with her.....then you should know what's best." He said sadly letting the guys go.
Just after the guys got out...Min ah was there standing from afar worried about the guys but mostly kookie who just smiled a bit but it still worried her. Just then the girls from Black pink came out and Jennie just glared and smiled in defeat to Min ah.
Tumblr media
Min ah didn t know what to do but just went inside his uncle's office finding him worked up with his assistance trying to reply back to the reporters saving BTS butts. They were too busy to even see Min ah standing in front of them.
" Ooh Min ah...did you come to see me?" Her uncle asked suprised he didn't see her there.
The two decided to go to a nearby restaurant where they could talk since the office was messed up. The two sat there like father and daughter. Min ah looked very sad and down, she atleast wanted to help the guys.
" So...are you okay, you look abit down and sad." Her uncle Park read her. He knew she was facing a problem that's why she followed him. " Min ah you know you can tell me anything if you h-" " -aniyo it's" she thought if she could really tell him, would he even help her.
" is it about a guy?" Min ah could just stare at her uncle thinking of Kookie as she smiles " it surely is...but did you two break up or-" "- aniyo it's nothing...but is there anything wrong with the guys?" Manager Park just sigh in disappointment " I heard the whole thing." " ne...it's true but I don't also really know why the guys are losing their focus...they really have passion in what they do i believe they could make it big someday...if they only focus." Manager Park spoke with emotion.
Tumblr media
" just like how i believe you can make it." By this he held her hand " I understand you now don't think I'm trying to rush you but I just want to see you reach your dreams. " I know appa can be such a hard person but I'll talk to him, arasso?" He wiped Min ah's tears which were flowing down her cheek.
"Kumaoh uncle." " arasso! Stop being a cry baby..but your new boyfriend how come I've never seen him..is he cute or have I ever seen him?" He kept asking curiously but Min ah just ignored him and laughed " what about you and director?" She teased making manager Park nervous and mad " yah! Stupid girl!" He cried as Min ah left.
Now she was happy, she knew what she was going to do. She went and went on with her work as Noo min woo and others helped.
Meanwhile
The boys were in their make up room preparing for an interview soon after the make up artist left they started talking " yah! Jungkook, we know you are dating but do you call that secret?" Suga cried starting an argument as he just bowed to apologize but Tae and the other got his back " yah! Do you have to shout at him just because he's inlove what about you?...everyone always tolerates your rude behaviour didn't you notice that already?"
"Aha says the one who tried to defend the one who stole away your love." Suga smirked evil making Kookie mad when the three started fighting and arguing when the boys hurriedly stoped them.
" Are you three crazy....aren't we BTS why do you try to ruin our image....if something has happened it has already happen you you don't have to fight." Jin continued " I know everyone is blaming Jungkook but he's the one who tolerated us at first when we also did this what he's gotten into....in fact weren't we the one who falsed him to date?..so please lets stop." He finished as the guys calmed down.
Tumblr media
" Jin is right, we are all at fault so lets not blame Jungkook for being inlove with someone cause we all do." RM smiled as Kookie smiled back " we are BTS we always find our way out." J hope laughed cheering the guys.
Soon it was time for the boys to leave " mianhaeyo Jungkook, I didn't know what I was thinking you deserve to be together with Min ah." He smiled at him " it's okay, you were just looking out for our group I should be careful." He said.
Jungkook's p.o.v
I was still worried about Min ah, I hope she won't worry much. I tried to text her in the van as i was leaving but manager Park seemed to be on watch so I wasn't ready to risk my relationship so Min ah could get fired or any harm.
" Yah Jungkook, what the relationship between Min ah and manager Park they seem so close." Jin silently asked me knowing manager Park was in the van " an employee and her boss wae?" " yah Min ah seems to have secrets.....today after we left the office, she got in and they both left...thats really weird."
I decided to Chase hyung since he was talking weird things but to think of it why did he ren't her his apartment. We soon arrived at the place we were to shoot our interview.
Later
Min ah decided to go for lunch with her fellow stuff who were just laughing and talking about celebrity. " Are you coming Min ah?" One of the hairdressers and Noo min woo asked as Min ah was opening her phone " Aha I'll be there shortly." She smiled as they left. She managed to read the text messages Jungkook succeeded to deliver
'Are you okay, I was so worried about you.' One said ' mianhaeyo if i made you worried.' ' things didn't work out with the guys but at the end it did cause our love is true.' And ' saraghae Min ah🙆‍♂️'
Min ah could cry just reading the text and the thought of leaving him made it worse. She decided to use the washroom where her rival was there Jennie. She was wearing makeup and dressed pretty. The thought of being there with her was unpleasant. " So when are you going to give up on Jungkook? It seems I should be reminding you." She turned to face her.
Tumblr media
Min ah could just end up smiling because it was hilarious to fight over a guy who is already taken. " yah!, are you smiling do i look like a joke to you? Aha it seems you've forgotten where you came from pizza girl!" She cried but Min ah was never hurt by her words " so what if i am, can't I also love? I know I don't deserve to be where you are now and and I don't care about it."
"Really? Then are you going to turn down the London offer...I heard it was your dream since little and....it's also the reason you came to Seoul right?" Jennie blurted when she was about to leave making her stop. " you played a good game too making up manager Park your uncle while your his mistress." Jennie reached a point to insult Min ah who returned it with a painful slap.......not knowing everything was being purposely recorded.
......
BTS had already finished the interview successfully and it was a good one, " we should all treat the guys some food!" " is that right?" The manager happily cried as the rest of the staff and crew cheered everyone seemed to have forgotten about earlier but Jungkook was still not okay, it seems Min ah has not replied since his last text.
Tumblr media
" Yah! are you okay? You don't look like yourself." Jimin approached the young one. " I'm not okay...I some how feel restless as if something has happened." He sadly continued checking his texts or calls. " hey, she'll be okay you don't have to worry about Min ah, she's a strong woman and if you think she didn't take your call anything can happen...like battery died or an emergency." Jimin tried to comfort the young one who seemed restless.
The staff all decided to leave as manager Park received a call. It was at night when the staff were sitted and served food and wine. Jungkook wished Min ah was there. The boys later realized that manager Park was not around. Hence they asked his assistant " yah where is manager Park?" RM asked " Ooh he suddenly got an emergency." She cried " yah what emergency would he deal with?" " it's family problem...I think he said somesomething about his niece." " niece!, manager Park has a niece?" The guys and the other staff got suprised. " Yah! I was also suprised he never mentioned it to anyone."
Just then everyone continued to talk more about others and making fun of eachother but Jungkook felt like something wasn't right. " hey!" Someone shouted, drawing everyone's attention. " I think Min ah is in trouble." He cried as Jungkook hurriedly reacted than anyone just by hearing her name. The boys managed to switch on the tv where there was news about her attacking Jennie.
Tumblr media
It was all on the news. Jungkook couldn't wait any longer and left without thinking Monica "yah Jungkook are you trying to expose yourself! Lets go!" the boys ran for him knowing he was going crazy and left with him upto to Seoul's police station where we can see Min ah is locked in a temporary prison.
" yah! I didn't do anything they framed me, they started everything they insulted me can't I also use them?" Min ah cried from the cell as Jennie and her girls sat and watched and secretly smirked at her and also pretending to be pitiful and innocent infront of the police in fact they were few reporters and fans gathered infront of the station till when manager Park arrived.
" Yah! Min ah....Min ah..wae are you here?" Mr Park cried as Min ah had not been able to explain " she insulted your star and you as the manager aren't you suppose to look at It?" One officer spoke which he seemed to be dealing with the case.
"I'm sorry but there's a misunderstanding.." "what misunderstanding should there be, instead of letting your idols disturb us can't you solve your problems." The middle aged officer cried as one younger handsome officer appeared and started bragging about Jennie.
Tumblr media
" yah!, what are you saying...and why did you lock her aren't all people the same to our eyes!!, they why did you lock this woman!!" The elder officer who seem to have experience cried at the other officer who seemed scared as they let Min ah out.
"And chase those reporters and those people away...miss don't you know this is a respected area don't think the police will solve every personal problems again." He turned to Jennie who was with Lisa wearing her face mask. " aniyo...sh.." Jennie began to stutter " do you want to get arrested?" Jennie hid behind Lisa after hearing that as Min ah stood front and thanked and apologized but the officer just looked at her and Manager Park " young girl don't get involved in such matters or else your life will be over." He then left.
" manager Pa-" Jennie was about to talk when he stoped her and interfierd " lets talk this when we arrive." " uncl-" min ah wanted to reach out to him but he looked disappointed " Manager Park." He corrected "Min ah...stop it and..we'll talk about this tomorrow now you need rest." He said to her as Min ah just looked at Jennie who just glared with a smirk " arasso." She decided to bid.
But as she was leaving manager Park got a call and this made his face swell and Min ah little worried " Min ah...It's." Min ah's eyes curiously stared "It's your.......appa (father) and he....wants to talk......to you." Manager Park stuttered.
Min ah did not know what to do guessing she must have been into trouble since her dad was always serious with her life and so overprotective from the day she lost her omma.
Tumblr media
She remembered gathering all her courage to ask her appa to come to city and fulfill her dreams away from her home Busan and now her appa is calling she guest he must have seen the Tv and news about her.

also re ppl talking abt things in the concepts of Careers.....just like when it annoys me when ppl start “resume / interview tips” with a tone of “You Fucking Fools” instead of say “this is all a goddamn game and the whole hiring process is a halfassed attempt to weed out the less exploitable at the min wage level and reward the privileged at upper levels and decisions will largely be arbitrary and this is all just about trying to adjust your odds”......it also annoys me when ppl (artists on twitter........) talk abt the necessity of Networking (being considered amicable by ppl you may potentially work with) with a context of “you fucking fools” instead of “again although capitalism pretends its a meritocracy its really not and unfortunately its not necessarily realistic to assume the quality of your work will serve you nearly as well as not just making friends but trying to establish personal connections as a means of making professional inroads”
i mean again even at the minimum wage level, someone whose friend already works at a place and recommends them is way more likely to be hired than anyone else who hands in an application. because beyond hoping for someone who can be scheduled at any and all hours and never say “i cant work then,” they dont really care who gets hired and its kinda just eh fuck it lets call this one. and interview them as if their job here has anything to do w interpersonal skills and the ability to deftly maneuver their way thru interrogation abt how much they might value their family and own personal existence over the company that pays them about ten cents a minute.
anyways its not like i dont think “networking” (seems weirdly euphemistic to me also) or finessing details on your application ISN’T helpful, just that its kind of demeaning if not insulting to talk about it like its all obvious and anyone who doesnt strategize the way you do is incompetent and doesnt deserve to succeed and its their own fault for not thriving. coz thats accepting the whole “this is a meritocracy” lie—that is definitely an assumption found in basically all discussions of anything—that necessitates these ridiculous secret maneuverings to get a foot in the door at places that treat you terribly to allow you to maybe barely survive off your work
anyways like of course i dont think that artists should have to seem friendlier than other artists to succeed & even if thats how it works i’m not gonna accept/endorse that premise yknow......like damn. its an element everywhere that yeah your Social Skills impact how ppl treat you professionally but im not about to pretend the Real Solution is just that those ppl who get fucked over by that fact just need to learn how to Be Different
like to a degree its sort of nice that just being in the same general professional sphere can make artists known to each other......but also like. if ppl around you dont personally consider you likeable, it then might close doors to your career. like damn nobody likes me, i’m glad i dont have to talk to ppl to draw
funny story actually once i was in a situation where im pretty sure nearly everyone was assuming i was a serious artist with a serious project. it wasnt at all a formal setting or even relevant what everyone did like just ppl hanging out / chillin but i still like, got automatically accepted by random nearby ppl in a way i was like oh god no i dont do anything lmfaoo...i got drunk followed on twitter by an artist i actually vaguely knew of & i think it took them a couple weeks to realize their mistake......i had a guy who wasnt an artist but was still involved in working w/ them talk to me a few times, increasingly somewhat drunk which is probably why he was talking to me (not in a nightmarish oh no a drunk guy is talking to me way, luckily, it was fine actually) & at one point he mentioned some artists who were there who i definitely knew of & how he never knew them to hang out w ppl after events or whatever & he was like idk are they too good for us or w/e & i was like lol nah i kinda know of them & i think theyre both just pretty shy (which was true lol in my head im like ive seen their diary comics abt being a bit socially timid.) and also i was thinking abt how ppl will and have assumed i think im too good to hang out / talk to them or are generally snobby, when actually i’m just anxious, and then doubly uncomfortable when i find out abt the stuff ppl have said abt me (like an unrelated family friend talking abt me when i was like, 11 or something lol; ppl talking abt how i wouldnt take up their invitation to join a group chat, since they make me nervous and if i do show up i cant say anything and probably feel worse; ppl talking abt how i accepted hanging out w a group i mostly didnt know but like brought stuff to do quietly in the corner like draw and write and stuff & had just kind of been making fun of me in the bg for the subsequent months i continued to hang out w them w increasing misguided confidence lol)
its funny (no it isnt) that ppl will think their specific brand of social language is the one that gives them the only accurate reading of other ppls social cues, & that everyone else has to learn to accommodate that, instead of ever considering the fact that its actually not a flat universal constant & maybe THEY need to learn more that some kind of subtle facial cue doesnt mean the same thing for everyone, that everyone doesnt verbally communicate in the same way, that there are cultural differences in various forms of communication, that avoiding eye contact doesnt always mean someone is full of contempt or lies, that people dont express affection in the same ways, that ones immediate impression of someone isnt always equivalent to their truest essence laid bare, etc etc
like everyone has their own language really & there can be mistranslations & nuances that are lost b/w ppl & you can’t always blame the other person for your own misinterpretation unless you consider yourself constantly superior mm
like its definitely all a lot of personal connections everywhere but that doesnt mean it should be
and the personal appeal of someone to strangers l o l . . . which can be a largely harmless advantage to a huge one. smdh. well it all stretches into a larger topic and many things annoy me

BBC Sounds Podcast, ‘The Conversation’,‘Body Hair’
Yassmin Abdel-Magied talk to two women - Busra Erkara who “is a Turkish writer who works for Year Zero, a bilingual magazine based in Istanbul. She was initiated into waxing by her mother and grandmother at the age of 13, but began to question why women remove body hair when she encountered feminist narratives about hair removal in Sweden and in the US. She’s written openly about her own conflicted approach to body hair as a Middle Eastern woman. Busra will soon take on the role of Director of Content at Odunpazari Modern Museum in Eskisehir, due to open in the summer of 2019.” And - Emer O’Toole who “is an Irish writer and theatre scholar who has written extensively about body hair after her own decision to stop removing it as a feminist statement some eight years ago. She says it was hard to deal with the shame and embarrassment of being ‘hairy’ and even harder to deal with her mother's disapproval, but now she’s proud of what it says about her. Emer is Associate Professor of Irish performance studies at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and author of the book Girls Will Be Girls: Dressing Up, Playing Parts and Daring to Act Differently.“
Emer O’Toole explains that in her culture, the act of hair removal is incredibly private and unseen - “you had to create the illusion that it (body hair) never existed at all”. - Emer O’Toole
"i remember doing it (shaving) in secret first because i didn't think my parents would want me to because it was too grown up... it was one of those adult steps that i was desperately keen to make... i wanted to be a grown up. I wanted to have boyfriends and take that step into woman hood...hat landmark of starting to shave your legs, even though I certainly didn't’ need to at thirteen... it was like a ritual step into maturity.”- Emer O’Toole
Busra Erkara grew up with hair removal as an open, family involved ritual of which they would use a thick amber wax “with the consistency of play-dough” made from lemon, sugar and water. It was edible and the children of the family were “given little pieces to eat”. “we were openly discouraged from shaving because that would make our roots thicker and the waxing would be more painful“ “you’d have more hair if you stopped shaving which was, quote on quote, undesirable” - Busra Erkara
Brazilian wax bars started popping up all of Dublin and all my friends were talking about how great it was, this Brazilian wax, and at this point I shaved my underarms and my legs and I didn't really worry too much about the rest of it... there was suddenly this immense pressure to remove all of my pubic hair too so I actually booked myself into one of these clinics but i didn't really want to do it” She told her family about it. her godmother (the only feminist type in the group), was “horrified” “and then my mother said - ‘If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump off one too?” “I cancelled my appointment” - Emer O’Toole
“I remember reading in a Dublin paper at the time about a salon that was offering virgin waxing to eleven years olds” “In the belief that pulling out this virgin hair would stop them growing thicker hair in puberty" - Emer O’Toole
After seeing this add she thought - “What can I do to personally protest this and my idea to just let it all grow was born” - Emer O’Toole
“I was always surprised at the level of critique that I got from friends who were otherwise, kind of... thoughtful, educated and their responses to questions about why women had to remove hair” “The question was just made to seem ridiculous” - Emer O’Toole
“its really nice, Emer, that your mum discouraged you from getting your first Brazilian wax because my mum gave me my first one” “before seaside vacation my mum told me it was time that I started removing all my hair.”  The first time my mum taught me how to wax my pubic hair was just awful and I kind of just ran away from it after the first part was over” - Busra Erkara
“although it was painful, I came to terms with it within a year, or something and between the ages of 15 and 22 I was obsessed with removing my hair. I’d remove my hair and then three days later i’d sit back down with a tweezer and pluck anything that i’d missed” - Busra Erkara
“I almost wanted to be perfectly hairless or something” “The muslim culture relates body hair to hygiene a lot... so with...armpit hair... it almost meant cleanliness” “It depends on place to place but in urban areas, Turkish women are expected to be very well kept. They’re always manicured and they’re wearing makeup and people have a very set idea of what feminine looks like and hair was a part of that package” - Busra Erkara
“Just thinking about the mother as the enforcer of the norm, when I stopped shaving my armpits and my legs, myself and my mother entered the only truly difficult period of our adult relationship. We always had a nice relationship but when i stopped shaving, she couldn't handle it and we fought constantly and she was mortified and she tried to get me to cover up... she didn’t want me to leave the house if anyone could see. There was a combination of constantly mocking me about it... but also being so embarrassed I was doing this.” Emer O’Toole
“I remember we were getting ready to go to a family wedding and i picked a nice dress and i felt comfortable and she basically forced me to change into opaque tights and a cardigan that she gave me and we weren't going until that happened.” Emer O’Toole
“I knew she wouldn’t like it. I think theres a currency for parents and having a well turned out, attractive, feminine daughter, right? If you turn up to the family wedding and your daughter looks lovely, that theres a social capital of currency in that if you turn up with the hair legged feminist with the shaved heads and the Dr Martin boots, there’s a shame attached to it” Emer O’Toole
“When I was seventeen, I was an exchange student to the US to Cleveland Ohio... my host family... I’d loving refer to them as former hippies and my host aunt and my host cousin, they went skinny dipping and when they took their clothes off their legs were as hairy as my dads legs. That was the first time, i think, the option not to remove hair entered to my universe of possibilities because up until that point i didn't even think it was an option.”- Busra Erkara
“When I started reading the feminist texts, thats when i stopped removing my hair and i actually grew it out for 8 or 9 months” “it felt great” “as soon as I got back to Turkey, my family made a comment on my armpit hair, I went back to removing it.” - Busra Erkara
“So it seems like it’s also very connected to where you are in the world?” - Yassmin Abdel-Magied
“my cousin jokes that I’m a better feminist when i’m not in Turkey” - Busra Erkara
“Emer, how do you think being Irish and fair skinned effects the way body hair is perceived on you?” - Yassmin Abdel-Magied
“It is absolutely more acceptable for someone who looks like me to do this than for someone who looks like Busra to do this... people will at least read my choice as a choice...whereas I know from friends of colour who have chosen to stop shaving, the first question they get asked by white people, if they’re living in the west, is ‘oh is this what they do in your culture?’. It’s read as backwardness as apposed to a....choice” - Emer O’Toole
When Busra moved to the US “There was a point where body hair became very fashionable... American apparel had manikins on their windows wearing just a pair of underpants with pubic hair coming out of them and around the same time there were all these artists, models and people in creative industries growing their hair but i noticed that these women were all white which led me to seek out other women from middle eastern, muslim or brown backgrounds.” - Busra Erkara
“It feels like the bravest thing I’ve ever done” (growing her hair out and making it public) - Emer O’Toole
“I remember when Cameron Diez came out and she said that she’d stopped shaving after having been a very vocal proponent of all body waxing... she’d started saying that actually she didn’t think that shaving and waxing was good for you” - Emer O’Toole
“One of the things i love about body hair is it is a protest against double standards and it is a protest against limiting norms of beauty and limiting norms of gender and it can usually be read that way and thats something that makes it quite powerful. but when its suddenly being coopted with whatever trending brands, it looses some of that power.” - Emer O’Toole
“It sounds like, for you (Emer) body hair has always been quite political. Busra...how political body hair is for you?” - Yassmin Abdel-Magied
“I moved back to Turkey in 2018... I was ready to remove my hair again. so i asked my girlfriends if anyone knew a good waxing lady and they kind of all scoffed and they were like ‘no one waxes anymore’... they treated me like i came in a time capsule from 1999″ - Busra Erkara
“They all started getting lazered” - Busra Erkara. (Which Busra ended up doing.)
“When i stopped shaving, it became a lot easier to stop doing other things associated with femininity and part of that was about how people read me actually and part of the way the read me was - crazy, aggressive, scary, but another way that they read me was less feminine and that actually created a respect, which is terrible... but the way that the world treated me changed and the way i carried myself changed and the way that I experienced gender changed” - Emer O’Toole

"wear them so that u can look even cuter than u already are????" keith goes beet red and punches lance in the shoulder as lance laughs. lance finds keith wearing them the next day) - shiro gives allura a note planner with her favorite quote on the front and allura gives shiro a handknit scarf its zSo fuckin SWEEET - hunk and shay go in their first dare - pidge and coran have rly fuckin good hot chocolate on the kitchen island and revel in their friends' happiness and recount good memories of the past year - they then bring out the wine and the karaoke machine - pidge gets p drunk and both them and lance sing one of the zumba songs pidge can somehow remember all the lyrics to hoW THE FUCK do I RMEMmber this?!?! (allura laughs evilily) - allura fuckin perfectly raps superbass - lance sings taylor swift ironically but not rly - corran tries to sing a thai song and its gets like awk quiet as ppl are like ?? okay ?? - HUNK STARTS TO BELT OUT BONJOVI AND SHIROS LIKE HELL YE AND JOINS IN - shiro then tries to sing country music but everyone reaches for the cancel button - shiro and allura sing Lucky (jason mraz and colbie caliat or smth) - pidge starts to sing linkin park's numb and gets rly into it. everyone is hype esp keith - keith tries to sing screamo song next but lance cancels before he can start and instead turn on the tune of gwiyomi from his phone and keith chases after lance with intent to kill lance cackling he runs away everyone else shrugs and continues as if nothing happened (keith and lance later return looking a little disheveled and everyone gives them knowing looks: lance averts his eyes and starts to whistle while keith just goes rly red and face palms) - everyone gets spectacularly drunk and decide to all sing bohemian rhapsody together. it kinda works. - They all go to the beach one summer

Is COVID Over Or Something? Gov. Cuomo Investigates Hamptons Concert & 700 Person Mansion Party In NJ Possibly Fueling Increase In Cases + Doja Cat - Who Trolled The Virus - Reveals She Tested Positive
Positive cases of COVID-19 are continuing to spike according to scientists. And they’re blaming large gatherings for fueling the numbers. Several huge events went down over the weekend and politicians, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, are taking action. More inside…
With the United States approaching 150,000 COVID-19 related deaths, numbers of positive cases are still reportedly rising and healthcare officials say it’s still not time to ease up on safety precautions.
Every day, politicians and medical experts are reminding Americans to wear their face masks, social distance and practice good hygiene to slow down the spread of the virus. However, people aren’t listening and we’re starting to see the affects of how NOT following the guidelines is only making matters worse.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the Department of Health are now investigating a drive-in concert that went down in the Hamptons over the weekend.
Videos from a concert held in Southampton on Saturday show egregious social distancing violations. I am appalled,” Gov. Cuomo tweeted alongside a video from the concert. "We have no tolerance for the illegal & reckless endangerment of public health."

The "Safe & Sound" benefit concert took place in Southampton Saturday and it was headlined by The Chainsmokers. About 600 vehicles were allowed, according to an event page.
Right now, gatherings of more than 50 people are still banned in New York.
In New Jersey...

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy warns positive cases of Coronvirus is on the rise again in the Garden State. And he believes the rise is caused by large indoor parties.
On Tuesday, New Jersey reported 565 new COVID-19 cases, its highest daily total since June 6th. Gov. Murphy said the numbers suggest the state is no where near being “out of the woods.”
New Jersey’s total Coronavirus cases have climbed to 180,766 (on Wednesday) and there are 13,923 confirmed deaths related to the virus. Gov. Murphy said he’s not comfortable moving forward with reopening phases – like allowing indoor dining – with the way the positive cases are continuing to rise.
In Jackson, NJ, over 700 people gathered to turn up at a house party. It reportedly took police officers more than five hours to break it up. Earlier this month, a party in Middletown, NJ led to more than 20 teens (age from 15 to 19 years old) testing positive for the virus.
Health officials say they're worried the event will lead to more coronavirus cases.
Earlier this month, young people (between the ages of 15 and 25 years old) reportedly held a house party in Washtenaw County, Michigan which resulted in 43 positive cases of the virus. Health officials have been trying to trace everyone who attended the party, urging them to self-quarantine and to monitor their symptoms.
Last week, thousands of people in Minnesota attended a rodeo – many opting not to wear masks - in protest government overreach. We’re sure we’ll be hearing about a cluster of new COVID-19 cases stemming from this event in a few weeks.
Listen, we get it! No one wants to be stuck in the house longer than they have to, but this virus will continue to spread if people don’t stop being selfish and sit down long enough, at least without 699 other people, to get everything under control for longer than a week. You'll draw out the lock down time further the more you don't comply.

We'd like him to be able to come home now, which is frustrating, but we're glad the doctors are being thorough and making sure they do the job right. Thank you for praying, everyone. Please keep doing it. He really is getting better, which means it is working.

Spotlight Series: Ali Francis and The Baking Supply Co
Full disclosure: I love what Ali Francis and her brother are building - I try to avoid gluten myself and so rarely ever bake with my herb, I always wind up juicing the leaves and buds because I'm far too lazy to figure out a gluten free recipe. The Baking Supply Co has taken the hard part out of the equation.
Imagine every month, receiving a box full of everything you need to make tasty - yet healthy goodies at home. Thats what the Baking Supply Co is offering and right now, they're running a campaign on Indiegogo to raise the capital and awareness that they need to really launch this product. Ali grew up on a farm in Australia, which shaped the way she lives, eats, and shops today. She's passionate about helping people feel well, and eat great-tasting, healthy food and at Her(B) Life, we're passionate about supporting amazing women doing amazing things with cannabis.
You offer healthy baking kits for herbal enthusiasts, sort of like those meal kits people can cook at home. I love the concept. How did you come up with it?
Thank you! We’ve been scheming on the idea for the past year, so I’m super excited to finally get the kits out into the world! We came to the idea in a sort of long-winded way.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis a few years ago, and so my diet is pretty anti-most-things. (It’s crazy how much reducing inflammatory food helps with endometriosis symptoms.) Cannabis is also my favorite way to treat period pain!
So I started making these really healthy recipes, recreationally. It was my brother, now co-founder, who came to me with the genius idea that there might be other people out there like me who wanted a healthier way to consume their herbs—he calls us the Blue Apron for cannabis!
You’re launching on Indiegogo, a crowdfunding site. I know from experience that a crowdfunding campaign is exhausting to run – how long have you been planning this?
Not long enough! In all seriousness, it’s so much more involved than I thought it would be. Our video alone was at least a few months work. I left my full time job in February and have been working pretty intensely on the project since then.
It’s tough, but I’m meeting so many incredible like minded people, which is so inspiring. I think when you put something honest and vulnerable out in the world people can sense your heart is really in it.
What are some of the unique perks people can access through the indiegogo campaign?
We have a bunch of fun stuff! One of my favorites is a custom “My Name Is HIGH,” pin by New York artist, Adam J. Kurtz. His candor always inspires me, and we’re so grateful to have him on this project!
Apart from that, we have a range of items to suit all budgets. Our patches and swag start at $10, our boxes and kits are $40-$169, and we even have a herbal dinner party for six valued at $2,499.
Every box will include a comprehensive recipe designed to seamlessly walk subscribers through the entire process: infusing, cooking, and storing their treats. Are the recipes a surprise every month?
Yes! At this stage we love the idea of it being Christmas every month for our subscribers. Our recipes will forever be gluten and refined sugar free, but apart from that, it’s a surprise! However, this strategy will definitely be shaped based on what our community want from us.
Infusing can be really daunting to some, do you have any tips you’d share now for easily infusing oils or butters?
We sure do! All of our perks on Indiegogo come with access to our digital herbal butter guide. This walks user through the entire process from A to Z! It’s honestly super easy once you start.
Your business partner is your brother. What is it like to work with family?
Ha! Of course you can tend to squabble a bit, but honestly, it’s awesome. We grew up on pretty isolated farm in Australia—which kinda forced us to be best buds from an early age. We’ve always had each other’s backs, and our skill sets are super complementary. The best bit by far though, is being able to trust someone implicitly—not just their work ethic or their talent, but their intentions. Being business partners really is a relationship, and trust is certainly at the core of it all. It’s also super fun! We’re both so far from home, and being able to chill everyday is the coolest.
Who can order your kits? Do you ship all over North America?
For Indiegogo, everyone in the USA can order a kit! We felt it was really important to be able to service anyone who was passionate enough about what we’re doing to pledge. But post-campaign, we will start by shipping in the Northeast only, and expand from there—much like most successful meal kits, our priority is quality first, scale second.
I’m a sucker for a fudgy brownie, what is your favourite treat to bake?
Oof! Aren’t we all!? At the moment, mine is this cornbread I make with sweet potato and citrus. It’s sweetened with orange juice and is the perfect combination of dense but fluffy. I am obsessed.
If you could offer advice to another woman interested in participating in the cannabis industry, what would it be?
Just start! Start anywhere, but start now. Cannabis has had a rough time “rebranding,” and the more passionate, talented, heartfelt women entering the industry, the better!
"Start anywhere, but start now."  -- Ali Francis
The other thing I would say, is don’t feel intimidated. We’re building out a supply chain for all our ingredients, and I am telling you, I have spoken with exactly zero women. It’s a boys club out there, but don’t let an arbitrary ratio stop you doing something amazing. Life is too short to dilly dally!

REVOLT AND COMPLEX ARE COCKBLOCKING  THE CULTURE  By DaBlackTargaryen  this modern time. Black people just like many other cultures gravitate to anything pertaining to their cultural that is presented in the media and any other entertainment venues. Youtube, Complex,Revolt, Worldstar hip hop and many other websites are providing many people with a real voice and view of their perspective culture. But for some reason black people still remained the largest misrepresented and most commonly stereotyped race on the planet. But don’t think i’m another nigga complaining about how bad things are going. I fucking love this country. Partly because i’ve never been anywhere else. But with tv and internet giving me a pretty good ballpark on the rest of the world, I feel pretty lucky to a black american. The fact i come from the hood which can be by many the root of black culture in America, I get angry every time watch a show or hear a podcast that misrepresents my beautiful black American culture.      The world has been addicted to black culture since it has hit global mainstream venues and radio waves. Genres like jazz, rock & roll, blues, r&b, blues, and pop have been dominated  In this great era of human existence we all live in today. The Internet Age could possibly be considered greatest of all human ages. Greater than the stone, bronze and iron ages. The Internet age has allowed black men to look at vaginas from different races without having to worry about a lynch mob knocking at the dam door like they the police or something. It has also allowed white men to masterbate to asian women without the risk of getting caught up in chinatown massage parlor sting operation.    But unfortunately with the world wide web also being controlled by money grubbing hazas. We often see many corporations capitalizing off of people with cool cultures or swagging mentalities. In my personal opinion, i have absolutely no problem with cultural appropriation. The reason America is known as a melting is because we possess a variety of different cultures. Now this very subjective fact can be looked at in a variety of ways. Some people look at it as a bad thing thinking open borders are a danger to our society. I find this to be absolute horse Shit. this is fucking America we killed millions of indians(feather), kicked out Great Britain, sent France packing, told Spain to move around and then kicked Mexico out to even be able to unite great the states we have nowadays. They even had to bring in millions of African, Asian, European, and Indian(red dot) immigrants over here to help build this magnificent country to the greatness it currently resides in. Some argue over the fact many of the off-white and darker people of this country were brought over here in some fucked up ways which is absolutely true. You can even say the way said people have been treated in this country has been fucked up and you would be speaking the truth. We still have no reason to fear the same motherfuckers than are doing all the weed eating and dishwashing in this country. But through all these clouds of controversy and blame giant rays of cultural sunshine beam through to brighten up our lives on a daily basis.     With that all being said the great nimbus of cultural appropriation remains a stain on American cultural even in  By black culture for years.the birth of jazz started when amazing black american musicians in the United States Army started playing british songs to entertain their fellow troops. But of course when it comes to black americans, anything we do ,that the british did ,we do,better. Look at fish and chips . Black fish frys are a staple of black culture. Shows like Everyday Struggle and Breakfast Club these corporations use our people to lure us into these white washed worlds of white supremacist view points.    Pushing propaganda of black people in some of the most idiotic and ignorant ways. Since the days of slavery, black people that aspire to be apart of white culture have consistently used other black people to imitate and depict the caricature that white society has found entertaining for years. I’m tired of seen black people  from good homes and possessing college degrees pretend to be from the hood or continue to glorify the real struggle that many poor people deal with everyday. They seem to use their own peoples pain to indicate that they have knowledge of what’s going on in the hood but clearly you can tell they learned the same way most white people learned about black people; from tv and the internet. Which happens to be the problem exactly. With the same stereotypes that were prevalent 20 years ago and only are going on amongst small pockets of lost negros. Also i find many of these platforms only focus on the same artists thats are famous to white people. Now i have no problem with white platforms but i do find it offensive when they claim to represent the full hip hop culture. Most of these platforms are just vlog and internet versions of top 100 radio.(a consistently dying platform compared to later years. Eastcoast niggas love to claim they started rap music but always fail to mention without the rest of the country rap music would have died in the 80s with Big Daddy Kane and Rakim.     With the west and south incorporating new aspects of our culture, rap has ascended to become one of the dominant genres of the music industry even seemingly outliving rock. Even in radio and podcasting venues the people in charge of giving people un-bias analysis are really giving the country a view of the hip hop world from a white washed New York pov. I am no hater i just want a view of hip hop that is panoramic. They speak on legends but rarely mention people from other coasts. An easy solution to this problem would be to educate fans with a view of hip hop that is fair to the entire culture. Try putting some people that are actually from the ghetto. How bout some felons, ex drug dealers ex goons that can give you a perspective on actual black culture. Joe Budden and AK are wonderful additions to this culture. But i fear they will be watered down soon if they don’t pay attention. The real culture vultures are out here pay attention and don’t let these people steer you in the wrong direction.

MIA: This is a white country, you dont have to spell it out to me
Maya Arulpragasam is bringing dancehall, hip-hop and grime to this years Meltdown. Is the outspoken British Sri Lankan the best argument for positive cultural appropriation?
The Guardian said that you couldnt shag to my record. As conversational openers go, MIAs beats the banal niceties of, say, Hello, how are you doing?. Its no surprise that she charges straight into a chat about why her last album was considered too confrontational for the bedroom by this paper. Its an icebreaker moulded to MIAs very own design: abrasive, compelling, underpinned by sex. Yeah, she finally concedes with a grin when I suggest we move past it, you cant have it all, can you?
Its a theme she warms up to when we talk about her edition of Meltdown at the Southbank Centre, which were ostensibly here to discuss. Usually, I wouldnt do something like this, she says, slouched under an oversized khaki coat dress. [But the organisers] were like: Hey, you can do whatever you want. Still, putting on the South Banks annual festival, curated in previous years by the likes of David Bowie, David Byrne and Patti Smith, has turned out to be a fairly arduous affair for MIA who says she doesnt do computers at the moment.
They didnt tell me it was nine days long. I thought it was a weekend. And then all my lists were, like, Well, this person wont be in London and that person is doing Glastonbury. Organising festivals is actually really complicated, she stresses. It wasnt just about dreaming something and then it appeared. Programming literally means, like, programming.
For all that Maya Arulpragasam didnt quite know what she was letting herself in for, one suspects the Southbank Centre didnt either; logistics aside, the mornings photoshoot has already been met with some flapping from the press officer made nervous by MIA climbing on the roof without safety clearance. Still, her lineup dancehall, Brooklyn hip-hop, depressive Swedish rap and Nigerian grime is perhaps the most underground the festival has seen in its 24 years. How much is she expecting to shake up its comfortable concert halls, cafe bars and conference-room spaces?

Click here to watch the video for last years Go Off.
When I was a teenager in London, I would just get a Travelcard and go somewhere, explore the city and go to weird places, she says. I would never judge the place, like, This is middle class and white. This is a white country, you dont have to spell it out to me, but there wasnt ever a limit on where I could go or what I could do.
A long, elliptical digression on London then and now follows, which takes in the optimistic multiculturalism of the 90s, Tamil house parties, empire and British identity. Its the bento box of an MIA interview: individually contained ideas that dont obviously bleed into one another and yet, overall, make a collective sense if youre prepared to go with it. Thats the key thing about MIA: you have to be willing to go with her to properly get her. Given that she still looks and sounds like a beautiful, bratty, art-school upstart and is prone to labyrinthine tangents, its easy to portray her as inarticulate or unhinged. But MIAs intelligence is instinctive rather than intellectual, and fuelled by the political.
The Mehrabian maxim that reckons that only 7% of communication is verbal is one that might best be proven by the transcript of a chat with MIA removed of all tone, attitude, context and body language. Take, for instance, her explanation of why only the future remains relevant:
As humans, we dont use our past and our history to work out the importance of what our role is in the present, she says. And if you cant use the past to define your present, then it should not be an element that holds back the future. Greece is a perfect example. More than Britain, they were brought to their knees, and not a single white country thought about saving them. And it was part of their heritage. Its where their mythology comes from or their concept of capitalism and democracy comes from. Nobody cared, everybody cared about the modern. Right?
Kim Kardashian is actually more powerful than Greece. She has more money than the whole of Greece, she continues. Therefore, thats where the power lies. If you then define it that way, then you kind of just have to live with that. And maybe whats happening in modern society: that if youre going to judge it by that, then other countries are gonna come in and define the future.
In print, its a statement that seems lacking in logic and coherence. In the moment, Im fairly sure Im able to follow her and we go on to consider how and where this future is being defined (for the record: You cant ignore the fact that China is going to be doing their thing in the next 50 years) and how Arulpragasam believes the immigration issue has become a red herring covering up a truth that can explain the American and British swing to conservative populism.
With Brexit, the idea was to get away from Europe and reinvent our identity, she says. And really, that identity was going to be American, but then they gave us Trump! So, everyone now is like, Oh shit, what is Britain? Are we going to rewind back to the 1800s? We cant. Its too late for that. So, going forward, we need a charismatic leader who then va va vooms the British identity. And we dont have that either.
People thinking that Im a bitch is totally unwarranted … MIA. Photograph: Stephanie Sian Smith/The Guide
The prime minister has called a snap election on the day we meet. Does MIA have any faith in our political system? Or in the left?
Everyone keeps going, Corbyn cant do this, but its, like, well, who else is there? she says. If people just left him alone to actually do the job and actually gave him some support, maybe hed be different. Treating him with so much contempt fighting that takes all his energy. How the fuck do you expect him to do interesting things? In any case insists the estranged daughter of a Tamil revolutionary, politicians are people who couldnt get jobs somewhere else.
MIAs politics, unwieldy and unslick though they may be, have often made her an easy target for tedious sneering in the press; the most insistent narrative is that, like Banksy, shes big on arch, subversive statement but lacks substance. Or that she is a hypocrite for making herself the poster girl for the worlds most marginalised people. And yet, shes one of the best pop stars Britain has ever produced. For all the ear-clanging experimentation of her five albums, MIA has always kept a sleeve full of pop bangers Bucky Done Gun, Paper Planes, Bad Girls, Finally that have sounded like little that came before or since her. Even if she didnt have the tunes, here is an art-school refugee Sri Lankan single mother with a visual aesthetic co-opted by everyone from Vetements to Versace who was born into political rebellion and revels in controversy. Gleefully gauche and carefree, MIA is the best argument for when cultural appropriation works. Bland singer-songstress beloved of Radio 2 playlists she isnt. So how much has the criticism bothered her?
People thinking that Im a bitch is totally unwarranted because Im not, she ays. I just had to fight for shit, and I still do. I just dont care any more. I dont know. She stops and starts. What I deal with as an artist, the media, the public persona, its a walk in the fucking park, compared to how confusing the universe really fucking is. Theres so much beauty in it and theres so much mystery, theres so much confusing shit in it. That is way more interesting to think about than why, like, Patricia hates me. You know what I mean? I laugh. Its like, Who the fuck is Patricia? and How can Patricia say this shit about me?. It just does not matter to me at all.As it is, she says shes most preoccupied with how to be a functioning grown up, an adult and a mother to an eight-year-old son (whose father Benjamin Bronfman is son to the billionaire heir of the Seagram fortune) born into immense privilege.
When the war came to an end in Sri Lanka in 2009, it actually did affect me, she explains. Everyone was, like, What the fuck does she know? Shes, like, a pop star, but that was my life. It was 50% of who I was, it was my identity. I didnt know what to do with myself. So I had a kid. Its the year the cause died, but the year my personal cause my son was born. And then, OK, I have to figure out what to do in very small parameters: I have a son, how is he going to see his grandma, am I going to make it there on Saturday? Can I make sure that I dont mess up his head by being depressed about certain things?
She struggles to reconcile her upbringing poor and living in Sri Lanka for her childhood to poor and living on a council estate in Mitcham, south London, in her adolescence with her sons. Im not very straightforward as an immigrant. That whole My kids would never see the pain that I saw; Im not like that. Im totally up for reintroducing him to the pain. I dont have any qualms about that. Her problems havent changed, she says, because of money or better circumstances. Whether Im in a mansion or a council flat, I would feel the same anxiety waking up going: I need to write this thing in a scrapbook, wheres my notepad? I would still have all those problems. I might still overcook the fish fingers. Those things are not going to magically transform because your house has changed. At the beginning I thought that money couldve saved my family. Very quickly I realised that money is not the thing.
Her conflict in wanting to being huge and commercial versus credible and ahead of the curve has been a persistent tension threaded through MIAs career. When I got into the music game, it was never an option to shut up and make lots of money. she says. To be a huge pop star, I would have to be, like, Yes, I think bombing Afghanistan was a great idea, I love our democracy and what it has achieved. I love the American flag and Im going to make a jumpsuit out of it. I just think it was important to have all of those Arab Springs, and its great and lets drink Coca-Cola. I had to do that, and do it all in a thong. Could I have done that if it meant that my mum had the nicest house in Chiswick by the river?

Does she worry about money now? If youre preaching living within your means, you have to, to some extent. But I also know that if youre someone in society that speaks out about injustice or political issues, one of the things that happens is that you get economically punished, 100%. I take that hit all the time.
The most recent, obvious example was MIA being forced to quit her headline slot at Afropunk last year, following a contentious quote in which she asked in an interview why Beyonc and Kendrick Lamar might not discuss why Muslim lives matter or Syrian lives matter. I dont regret [raising the issue], she says, with triumphant chutzpah. You saw how bad it was. And the Muslim ban didnt happen just with Trump, it was already happening under Obama. But you couldnt say that about him, you couldnt say that he introduced the Muslim ban, or banned seven different countries, or was already monitoring people, or dropped more bombs than Trump has. In truth, Obamas administration did identify the seven countries on Trumps list for additional screening measures, but it didnt bar their nationals. Shes already skipped ahead. The quantity of damage cant be quantified right now, she insists. Well have to wait the four years. After eight years of Obama, we kind of knew [his failings], but we just werent allowed to say them because he was so great. He was better than any person in Hollywood that I wouldve watched. He was really likable and just had loads of swag. That doesnt mean that you have to deny the truth, though.
This (and much more) comes moments after she tells me she has no time for opinions these days. She claims she doesnt read the news any more and that her primary sources for information are customers at the local kebab shop, taxi drivers and then sort of figuring it out. What about the state of the world? MIAs moment as an agitprop pop activist has never seemed more potent. Politics? I have no time for these things because Im so stuck in the zone. Ive become a hermit. [Meltdown] is actually giving me the chance to actually go out and meet people again. Ive gone for weeks without talking to a person, I do that happily. I tell her I dont believe her, as I suspect it would be a recipe for her to go fully barmy.
Im actually quite an extreme person, so I dont see that as madness. I see that as, like, solitude, doing a phase of solitude is not that bad. After declaring her fifth album AIM to be her final one, shes also trying to find new ways to channel her creativity. Im trying to write a film. I havent stepped into it yet because I want it to be good. Once you hit the start button you cant really stop it. She has, she tells me, the added complication of ADD to contend with. When was that diagnosed? I just have it. Dont even need diagnosis, its a waste of time, its a waste of the NHS. In truly blithe MIA style, she adds: Its just when you have too many ideas and not enough ways to get them out.
