Did swk do ritual like how hd did in the novel with the three prince??(the arc introduces three prince who became the pilgrims disciples n so theyre were to wield weapons similar to that of the pilgrims via a ritual. One of the prince got extra buff stats in order to wield his replica of the riyu jingu bang that still the same weight ss the og)

Monkie Kid spoilers & complaining below:

Hmmm well you know anon as it is I actually found the insta-powers in the first few seasons pretty funny and charming specifically because they were often played for laughs in a pretty light hearted way. And it made sense for what the show was at that point! Monkie Kid set itself up as a relatively low-stakes and fun cartoon where a goofy and kind hearted delivery boy would get to go on all sorts of wacky adventures under the tutelage of the Great Sage, often going against some delightfully hammy villains in the Demon Bull family. Even when the stakes were still "save the world" the tone of Monkie Kid still made it pretty clear that we weren't dealing with the grimdark dramafest that has come to define so many other works. But of course a grimdark dramafest is in many ways what this cartoon would soon become (even while there is still some silly funtimes to be had), what with the world routinely being in danger of destruction, the constant trauma MK has been subjected to significantly because of his connection to the Monkey King, and with everyone and their mother yelling at Sun Wukong for being a terrible person, with the cartoon itself then often bending over backwards to prove just how true these statements are. Hell even SWK himself admitted that he's a bad teacher and described his entire existence in the season 4 special as little more than multiple lifetimes worth of mistakes (maybe he'll go on another genuine journey of self improvement and atonement but tbh I'm not holding my breath given that his miserable spot was where the journey to the west got him lol), and yeah at this point you do have to kind of laff that Xiyouji's ruthless murder monkey SWK is a more loyal friend, selfless individual, intelligent leader, and even a better shifu than Monkie Kid's. It is these writing decisions that have made me pretty leery with where they might be taking Qi Xiaotian being another stone monkey, especially since yeah lot of people seem to think this is going to lead to a fight between the two stone primates. Plus given the very recent indications that MK was both enraged that Azure Lion was using him for his own ends--something that other characters besides Azure have said SWK is also doing to Qi Xiaotian--along with the pretty blatant hints that MK's terrified he'll end up exactly like SWK I can easily see that fear turning into violent anger :(

Starting off with ABYSS!! i love her dearly. she's a spamton mixie! specifically a blue addison + spamton + sparkle kittling. she's got no eyes or colors (she's got blue paw pads, thought!), leading to an unsettling appearance. i love her dearly, though! she's full of cheeky personality and she loves jumping through the hoop, if she isn't knocking it out of my hand. (or doing other things... she loves to mess around)

up next is... asshole! yes. thats his name. he's my oldest spamton i currently have! he was originally a different spamton neo, but for petzspamton creator's comfort i converted him to be dib's spamton neo. being based on a siamese - he's picky and he's mean. he's an asshole. that name stuck with him. he used to wear an iconic sweater but this spamton neo kinda breaks shirts so he has a santa hat now!

also spamton neos in petz are known for. their. uhm. Thoughtful Gaze.

next is... BIG BOY! MY BELOVED!! he is a gift from petzspamton for me based on my mega spamton neo design! he came named bigboy and since even my mega spamton neo's nickname has been bigboy. :] he's big, he's cuddly, he's gentle and he LOVES food. he also flops. a LOT. and genuinely when i say he loves food i mean it, he's based on a persian and those love food in petz. he seems very eepy today he's flopping less than usual but probably because of how wacky the room layout is + he's too interested in buck plush

Milo + Moander: okokok this one is a little silly odd because Moander isn't really supposed to be seen without being summoned, so he's walking around the graveyard looking for lingering souls, and sees this random guy just staring at his 8'7 ass with probable disbelief/horror and he's just like "waaait a second."

ok ok i keep meaning to message you about Milo and Anon cause honestly i think about those two daily. Those two would be such a good duo and the best of friends i swear. Milo likes having someone he can just chill out and vibe with. He has a wack ton of sketches of Anon in his sketchbook. Some are just normal sketches of them just hunched over their keyboard or just vibing and others are these little wacky gremlin drawings that make Anon look absolutely goofy and feral. He definitely flips through and points out some of the cool spirits hes drawn and tell their stories. Milo would also wanna ask Anon to let him mess around with his keyboard and teach him little tunes but my boy is shy as hell.

I can just imagine Milo walking through the cemetery and doing a double take on Moander. His cigarette comically falling out of his mouth while just staring. i think at this point w stampede, ive noticed theyve cut down on the goofiness, which feels a little disappointing? ik people saw ep 3 and were like "wow, its gonna get serious." but i think u could still have serious moments w casual, silly moments... thats what trimax did. but also it might be indicative of how many episodes theyre allowed, so idk. i can keep saying "theres only x eps out..." but i think in comparison it is kinda minimizing character development, or at least the opportunity to make fans love the characters.

before i said they mightve cut milly out bc they're just uncreative men who cant come up w anything, but now i think also they wanted to remove her carefree, jolly attitude, instead replacing her with a bland, super Perceptive man. vash is ofc positive and nice here, but kind of in a calmer way, any sort of performative wackiness being abandoned after ep 1 (though that could change, idk). its not exactly dead serious, maybe meryl now taking milly's space of "comedy relief", with vash lightly laughing along, but idk... i feel like its a bit less... lovable? like its missing a key ingredient when it wasnt even turned grim dark or anything (not that i'd want that)

OOOOHH ok so im horrible at explaining shit sorry!! so basically batman villains have continuously just been portrayed as silly guys that do crazy shit because why the hell not, but theyve rarely delved into why theyre Like That. in the movie we saw why edward was completely delusional and unstable, we got answers that werent just "heehee hoohoo im a goofy guy and i kill because im Evil and Wacky!!!", like no, he has reasons for why he acts the way he does, he was ignored and treated like insignificant garbage his whole life, hes traumatized and was abused growing up, plus he was already pretty messed up before all the riddler stuff, BUT THEN, he suddenly gets a mass amount of supporters that adore him, are so incredibly devoted to him, and see him as their god, basically. hes finally getting the love and attention he desperately craved all this time, and now he believes the riddler is someone he has to become, like he finally found his purpose in life, and all that combined turned his instability meter up to 300%. SORRY i started ramblinf about eddie 😭 but ANYWAY i want to see the villains have more depth is what im trying to say!! give them a deeper reason for why they became the way they are!!

like liquid is a Funny Guy he’s very funny as a ridiculous cartoon villain similar to ocelot i guess BUT i do feel like him being one of the clones automatically gives him some depth which if i could be bothered to explore i would. like he’s obviously insane and silly but idk its interesting to think abt how he sees himself/himself in relation to big boss/ and just what is it that he really wants etc. the specifics of his daddy issues . and i think his dynamic with mantis is very fun like i dont go there but they are a fun pair with a lot of potential. i dig their whole childhood friends to like whatever . goth freak and beans on toast jock blowing up the world. maybe they hang out inside each other’s minds psychically. i think it’s a shame there’s not a bit more of them as adults in canon i guess idk? and also like. i think psycho mantis is fucking FUN like ignoring any deeper thoughts he’s such a good character on a funny and wacky level. i’ll never forget like. ok so the twin snakes was the first mgs game i ever played right? and i knew nothing abt the series and was kind of only just getting into playing games that arent pkmn or mario at that point anyway. so i was not expecting any of the mgs wackiness at all. but when i got to the psycho mantis fight i laughed so much id never played a section of a game like it before. like when he says put the controller down and i’ll move it with my mind and u do and the rumble makes it “move” and it’s so STUPID but so fucking silly and funny i was enamoured. like. just that whole fight the music the room his sick bondage outfit all the breaking the 4th wall. honestly i loved it. the first mgs fanart i ever did was of psycho mantis would you believe. bc halfway thru playing twin snakes i was just like this guy rocks. so anyway even tho that’s more of a comment on the game as a whole and not mantis as a character i think i will always be fond of mgs1(twin snakes) mantis because honestly he’s what really sort of made me go (!) this series is fucking stupid cringe insane bad goofy FUNNY and i love it. u kno???? so respect to him.

the thing is that sniping is clearly the best way to get into compounds in far cry games because you feel very clever and it usually isnt THAT hard to find a good vantage point to pick off the outsiders and work your way inward, but also their sniper rifles arent very good because theyre loud and the early ones have shitfuck aim.

nearly entirely silent. better zoom. more damage than a sniper. if you do have to come down from your vantage point, you can recollect your ammo. bows and arrows are SO SUPERIOR

the only real problem is that far cry 5 had a better selection and funner upgrades, but it seems like this game just generally cut way back on weapon variety and upgrades? so whatever i found a cache that had a special bow in it and i've been using that. but it isnt quite as fun as the scattershot approach of 5, i think it mixed goofy and serious in a ratio that i preferred, and that included having fun-silly ratios of weird and wacky weapons to the seriousness of 1) just plain satisfactory gameplay and 2) serious plotline

so paranormal au (crack taken seriously, but what paranormal au isn’t)

so kakashi, obito and rin jokingly start a paranormal investigations squad. it’s joking at first until they actually start finding strange things happening—enter monument mythos-type stuff, goofy and silly again until it’s not. konoha’s actually hiding something behind their propagandist messages, and they’re determined to find out what it is. that is, until obito disappears (something takes him to the final valley canyon ? not sure of that yet). kakashi and rin know exactly where he is—they’ve had suspicions of this canyon for a long time, but upon arrival and searching for days, they can’t find him. they can’t go to the police either, or they’ll be taken as well.

so, theyre forced to give up. they grieve for some time, but eventually rin moves on and gets herself a life—she still had goals outside of this and she’s determined to get them in obito’s name. he wouldn’t want them sitting around looking for them, after all. kakashi on the other hand, didn’t have many goals. he planned on following obito wherever he went. so he opts to keep searching for obito, and occasionally lets rin know about updates and stuff. eventually, they stop. missing posters for obito stop going up, and scrawled over obito’s face on ever single one are the words “HE’S DEAD,” because kakashi knows that the police don’t really care about obito. they never have, and they never will.

enter naruto, sasuke and sakura, three kids who think hey, a ghostbusters-type group would be silly and fun, whaddya say? same stuff, except they find a missing poster of one of sasuke’s family members and he’s like “i have no idea who this is.” upon asking his family, the poster is suspiciously regarded and nobody can seem to remember anything. strange.

they call the number on the poster which leads to them meeting kakashi: local deadbeat who has no life and tries his best to get the kids to disband—paranormal investigation is what got his friend killed, and he doesn’t want the same for them. the kids don’t listen and continue investigating. they find out something much deeper in the canyon than the living statues, and i’m j gonna say that smth with giza glass and zetsu/the first’s plant matter would be very interesting for obito.

haven’t got much from there but i’m all into wacky hijinks let’s go

for anybody whos interested: i put a lot of thought into this chapter and this scene in particular. and ive jotted down some of those thought processes under the cut. i care way too fucking much about hlvrai and it shows

i was thinking to myself like........hes been too nice lately. i gotta figure out a way to bridge the gap btwn "goofy little guy whos just trying to help his best bud through the game" and "terrifying big bad who genuinely freaks the shit out of gordon because hes under the impression that this is just a game". but mostly b/c i needed to find someway to help them along to the extremely self-indulgent rewrite of the public bathroom skit without benreys particular Demeanor in that scene coming out of nowhere

there is just like. so much going on in that intro commentary. emotionally speaking. theres a lot of set up going into getting them from point A to point B, okay

to me the bathroom skit is fundamental in terms of, like, establishing a really specific tone of their relationship. like, it is more complicated than just "silly guy gives gordon a hard time and makes goofs", you know? i think that when most people look at their interactions this is all they see, b/c theyre watching Best Of compilations or the same few redrawn scenes or fanon "wacky found family" stuff. but the thing that is really compelling about benrey as an antagonist is that he is unpredictable, and more importantly, he is really fucking mean and unsettling when he wants to be

but Most importantly, that skit establishes that not only is he mean, not only is he unnerving, and not only is he prone to giving their interactions a sexual undercurrent, but that gordon is Willing To Reciprocate. its all fucking flustered laughter and play-fighting on his part! the skit deliberately plays up how fuckin creepy benrey is with the horror music sting and all that shit, but like, the reaction that gordon gives him is not one of somebody who is sick of his shit. it is of somebody who is Playing Along

given that this comes after the events of the payday stream, this makes sense. that stream, in my opinion, gave their relationship a lot of really fun developments: benreys a lot meaner now, having already had his heel turn, but hes not The Bad Guy(tm) anymore so the tone of his interactions with gordon is a lot more.....playful. light-hearted. gordon is no longer viewing his actions thru the lens of "This Is My Story-Mandated Antagonist who is hounding me for Villain Reasons", but more like, "this is a fellow player who i dont really care for". in particular, the bit with benrey chasing gordon with a knife really sells this. benreys not The Bad Guy anymore, so its not a big deal! its just jokes! laughs!

HOWEVER. in co-op game theory, the payday stream never happened! gordon went straight from the end of hlvrai to the beginning of hl2vrai. which means that i have to do all that relationship development my own dang self

and it has to be flavored differently, too, b/c the setting of the payday stream is a lot more fantastical and light-hearted and overtly video game-y. but in co-op game theory, i am making a pretty big fucking deal of the fact that gordons stuck in a grim setting with painful consequences. and ive been playing a lot with just how porous the barrier is between "this is just a game" and "this is a thing that feels real and has real consequences" that hlvrai itself sets up in act 3, what with the whole "getting his arm cut off" thing. in the payday stream, they just kind of get shot at over and over again to no effect, nothing really has any weight to it, its borderline dreamlike, and so that lends itself to interactions like "benrey chasing gordon with a knife" being given this really gay "teehee omg nooo stoppitttt" flavor.

but you cant get to the whole "chasing gordon with a knife is just a goofy and fun moment with his best frenemy" thing without establishing that, between gordon and benrey in this setting, the one in co-op game theory, the rules are different for those two. gordon getting shot by the bad guys hurts, here! it hurts real bad! but with benrey, it doesnt, because hes operating on purely video game rules. cartoon character rules. you can get that kind of dreamlike, cartoony shenanigan-style chemistry between them by making it so that, when benreys chasing him with the knife (metaphorical or literal) he is choosing to make the consequences go away.

[the cool and fun part about that, i think, is that in this setting we have now established that benrey can turn it off. if he wanted. so now theres that lingering undercurrent of "okay but what if this time its for real. what if he gets bored. what if he forgets that gordons just a guy for a little too long. whats keeping him from doing exactly that"]

between them, the kind of tom-and-jerry shit that would ordinarily put gordons life in very real danger no longer does, because benrey is setting a boundary, so to speak, that this is a game. a funny little game just for them. and so gordon can learn to Play Along. point A -> point B.

its not exactly a 1:1 imitation of what develops btwn them in the payday stream b/c this is a different fucking thing but now hopefully u see what i mean. This is an insane amount of words. Sorry

i just had a moment with fallout new vegas that perfectly summarizes my issues with wrpgs, and western games in general, with regards to the obsession with being “realistic” and “serious”

so, the basic concept: while exploring this nuclear post-apocalyptic wasteland, i encounter a skeleton with a fedora in an open fridge, a reference to the infamous “hide in a fridge to survive a nuke” scene in indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull. this is not a major plot point or anything more than an offhand reference.

so the way fnv handled it is, first of all, even getting this event required me to take the “weird wasteland” perk. i have to deliberately make a decision to pollute my experience with this pop culture reference. on top of that, when i encountered it, i got an audio cue and an indication that, yes, this is the result of taking that option. don’t worry, the developers would never pollute their serious video game with this if i didnt go out of my way to have it happen! this isnt even, like, a chupacabra or an alien or anything. this is a fucking offhand indiana jones joke, out of the way of everything.

then i imagine how a jrpg would handle this. it wouldnt be something i need to go out of my way to trigger for sure, it would just be there, by default, because jrpgs know youre here to have fun. theyre not scared of being wacky sometimes! they dont need to put a disclaimer on it! romancing saga 3 has you visit an island of lobster people with goofy music as part of the plot, and its still a game where you go into gates of hell and fight demons! thats not undermined in any way by it! ff7 has a goofy cat robot riding a mascot as a party member! on and on and on, but fnv feels the need to hide its indiana jones reference, make clear that “you specifically asked for this, we wouldn’t have made this part of the experience if you didn’t want it”

i know this is a silly thing to get mad about, but i like my video games to be goofy sometimes, and western games are so fucking scared to even approach it if its not an explicit Comedy Game
