Nur-Ayya and Ea-Nerari

I have nothing to say so I’ll quote @lk-mitogen ‘s brilliant prose instead :

Ea-Nerari turned to the sun and walked away, footsteps digging into the sand. Nur-Ayya hung his head, listening to the soft crunch, crunch, crunch of his heart, crushed underneath the sandals he had lovingly woven once. The sun bore down upon the back of his head, uncaring of his tears. The shadows stretched before him, into the silence of night, and before him rose the moon, cut in half like he was cut. There he stood until the sun greeted him again, and for a moment he thought -- Ea-Nerari has returned! -- but there was nothing but the burning of his eyes, sun uncaring, wind uncaring, and, in time, the moon, again, reflecting the gash of himself. And the sun rose again, and the moon, again, less, and less, and less, until there was nothing but pitch darkness and the pinpricks of the stars. And it was then that Nur-Ayya knew that Ea-Nerari was never, ever going to come back, and he was finally alone, at peace, like he had so unthinkingly wished for.
