MXTX Remix 2024 fics have been revealed! I wrote about Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe getting to know each other and learning to live together in a No System AU, as a prequel to a cool ghostly Bingqiu fic called "sweet as honey" (linked in the Author's Notes). Enjoy! ❤️

Summary:

Shen Yuan wakes up as Shen Qingqiu without having read Proud Immortal Demon Way and without a Transmigration System to guide him. He has no goals, no tasks, and no quests. He and Luo Binghe manage to find each other anyway, as master and apprentice, and teach each other to find joy in this strange world.

Happy March, everyone! It took me a while to make this post because I don't really have a lot of news to share at the moment.

I've paused my for-fun reread of SVSSS (stopped at the beginning of the Airplane Extras) because I have to work on my MXTX Remix fic now. That will be finished by the end of the month and up in early April. I have a few one shots on back burners, as always, but I'm not actively planning to post any of them this month.

The most exciting news is possibly that I now have digital copies of the SVSSS books (English translation) so that I can reference them wheneeeeever I want. I'm hoping that this will improve my writing workflow for a lot of my fics! I often like to write with my notes document up side-by-side with my writing document, and this is going to make making notes documents sooooo much easier. I can just copy-paste the quotes I need now! I'm unstoppable.

I think I've really been needing this for "Sit With Your Soul", my SY & SJ Daemon AU, which I have been chipping away at very slowly for way too long now. I really needed an easier way to reference canon for that, so that I can use it as a stable launch point and do some sick flips and all that jazz.

I'm going to be off-work and busy for a week soon, so I may post more or post less during that time frame. I'm thinking about bringing MDZS with me for a reread (it has been a LONG time) now that I have physical copies of all of the books. It's tempting to bring TGCF instead to finally read the whole thing properly, but that's a LOT of volumes to carry around (CANNOT take both, not about to buy digital copies yet) and there's something appealing about tackling these stories in their proper order.

A belated happy April! It's been raining nearly every day so far and the flowers are coming up again. I didn't post this icon earlier because I didn't have all that much fandom news to share. I'm trying to take it a little easier in recent months and chill with friends and family more, and also get back into reading more original fiction.

Authors are revealed in the 2024 MXTX Remix tomorrow, which essentially means I will have another new fic up tomorrow!

The not-anonymous Qijiu fic I've just started, "Some Unknown Corner", is so that I can exorcise this fic idea and also reacquaint myself with Shen Jiu's past as I continue to slowly work on "Sit With Your Soul". (I know! I meant to be posting it again by now!) This Qijiu fic should be less than 10 chapters, I'm currently looking at about 5-7 chapters by my outline, and I'm leaning towards updating it twice a week. (Chapter 2 sometime this weekend at the latest.)

I was hoping that finally posting the Ch25 and Ch26 commentaries would get me in the mood for a big writing session for Chapter 27 of “pride is not the word I’m looking for”, because it opens with more Moshang stuff. 

But all I can think about is Korean food and the MXTX Remix works being revealed in less than 7 hours. So I’m going to go cook something and hope that that helps!

8,614 words so far for Chapter 24 of “pride is not the word I’m looking for”. I think I’m going to bump some events to the next chapter (they should fit better there anyway, actually). One last writing session later tonight and, barring disaster, it looks like I’ll be good to post tomorrow! 

I’ve been posting frequent updates like this to keep myself on track. I’ve been a bit distracted this week and this is helping me focus. I want to post Chapter 24 this week and Chapter 25 next week (more or less in time for Valentine’s Day!), then take a break the week after that to focus on my MXTX Remix project.

The game is over! The jig is up! MXTX Remix 2021 creators have been revealed! If you guessed right, congratulations, you found me! If you made a guess at all, thank you for playing and thank you so much for the cool new fic recs! Here are the details for sticker requests: 

TL;DR: The detailed info is mostly to help curb any anxiety. The summary of it is: “Send me an ask with 1-2 characters, a pose or concept, and let me know whether or not you want to remain anonymous.”

1) Send me an ask with the following information: 

Note: Your ask can’t be anonymous because I have to know who is sending it. 

- PLEASE INCLUDE: The character or relationship/pairing of your choice (so: two character limit) I’ve only read SVSSS and MDZS, but I will tentatively allow TGCF characters on the condition that you send me decent reference of the characters. 

- Optional: Reference for a specific preferred design of that character, which you can either include in the ask (if you know how to include images in asks) or link to me through Tumblr messenger. I will not copy anyone else’s fan design of that character or copy someone else’s art that reminds you of a character, but other people’s art can serve as a “I generally imagine this character as looking like this” inspiration reference. 

If it’s an easily accessible design, like, “Untamed Wei Wuxian” or “Donghua Liu Qingge”, you don’t have to send me a photo or a link to photo reference. If it’s just something like, “Luo Binghe, but with ram’s horns” or “Luo Binghe, but with SUPER curly hair, just SUPER curly”, then you can also just say it like that and don’t have to send me reference. 

Note: NOT optional for TGCF characters. TGCF characters need reference. 

- Optional: A concept for the sticker, suggesting a pose or an AU, like, “Sha Hualing in the Sailor Moon pose” or “Liu Mingyan in an Alphonse Mucha pose” or “Mobei-Jun holding Shang Qinghua transformed into a hamster” or “Lan Wangji with A-Yuan on his hip” or “Jin Guangyao Valentine’s Day Card”. 

If you don’t have any ideas for a pose or an AU, you can just say something like: “Character: Jiang Cheng. Pose: Surprise me.” 

- PLEASE INCLUDE: Whether you want me to @ you (or to just name you) when your request is fulfilled or if you’d prefer to remain anonymous. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can just finish off the ask with: “I’d like this to be an anonymous request, please!” 

When the sticker design is finished and posted to my Tumblr, I will reply privately to your ask to let you know that the request has been fulfilled. 

2) Limits on requests: 

- No sexual or suggestive poses. Affectionate poses like hugging or kissing or sleeping together are fine. Casual/non-sexual upper body nudity is fine (male or female or other, I just may have to blur it for Tumblr and send you the original privately), such as along the lines of outfit swaps and so on. I’m not drawing porn and I’m just personally not in the headspace for pin-up poses right now, so please lean it towards Safe For Work. 

- No graphic violence and no gore. I’m not making any Original Shen Qingqiu Human Stick stickers or anything, sorry. Undead characters like Wen Ning are fine. A request for “Fierce Corpse Wen Qing” would be fine. 

- No underage pairings. No incest. No assault/non-con requests like “This pairing kissing, but Character A is visibly not into it”. And so on and so forth. Let’s keep this more lighthearted, please, for my sake. 

- Animals are fine. A request for “Tianlang-Jun napping on Zhuzhi-Lang in snake form” or “Nie Huaisang and a songbird” would be fine. 

- Animalsonas, anthropomorphic animals, and “furry” stuff along those lines is also fine, so “Aggretsuko-style Shen Qingqiu” would be fine and “Mobei-Jun with polar bear features” would be fine. 

In the unlikely event that I cannot fulfill your particular request (it crosses a personal line that hadn’t occurred to me and that you couldn’t have foreseen), or if you send me a request that doesn’t respect these limits, I’ll just contact you and ask you to make another request. 

3) Other Stuff: 

- People have my permission to print off these sticker designs for themselves and their friends to stick on laptops or notebooks or the like, or to turn the sticker into a personal icon (with credit) or similar types of personal use. You do not have my permission to sell these sticker designs or to profit off them in any fashion. The drawings remain mine and the characters, of course, belong to neither of us. Just getting that out of the way. 

- When making the request, you understand that I get to the sticker request when I get to the sticker request. I have a limited number of hours in my day. I don’t foresee fulfilling these requests taking very long, but I’m not going to rush them all out as priority number one in my life. 

- I had such an excellent time with the MXTX Remix and with this guessing game, so I am leaning towards allowing all participants to make sticker requests at a later date, perhaps in a month or two months or so, when I will be hopefully less busy than I am now. For now, however, please only make a sticker request of me if you guessed correctly!

The MXTX Remix 2021 event has just revealed its works! Lots of fun new SVSSS, MDZS, and TGCF fics and art just hit AO3! The authors will stay anonymous for the next week, so let’s play a game. 

My gift to someone is somewhere among the SVSSS, MDZS, and The Untamed works (not TGCF, because I haven’t read TGCF yet). Yes, it’s true, I write MDZS/Untamed fanfiction too sometimes! 

If you can guess which work is mine, I will draw you a cute-and-quick-doodle-style SVSSS or MDZS/Untamed sticker with the character of your choice (again, not TGCF because I haven’t read TGCF yet, sorry). I will not be mailing you a sticker, just posting a sticker design here on this blog. 

Depending on how many people guess correctly and how busy I am, stickers may be slow to roll out, but I’ll get to every one of them eventually! 

Rules:

- You have to have been following me before I made this post. Sorry, but this is a game for my Tumblr followers! I’m not really interested in having this post reblogged and gaining new followers who just want to make an art request before vanishing into the blue. 

- You guess by sending an ask along the format of: “My guess for your MXTX Remix work is the [fandom] fic: ‘[fanfiction title]’.” Or: “MXTX Remix fic: [fanfiction title]. Hey, Tossawary, this you?” It doesn’t have to be that phrasing exactly, but you have to include “MXTX Remix” (so I know what you’re talking about*) and the title of your guess. (Please do comment on people’s lovely works if you have the time and energy, though! It’s not required, it’s just appreciated! If you’re feeling shy or tired, it’s cool to sign out and comment on works anonymously with a simple: “I really liked this! Thanks for sharing!” I’ve been there.) 

- Reblogging this post with a guess or replying to this post with a guess won’t count either. I would like to keep all the guesses in one place so that I don’t lose any, so again: only Tumblr asks will count.

- You only have one guess. I will allow guess retractions in favor of a new guess, but that means that your final guess is the only one that matters. If you guessed right the first time but retracted it, it doesn’t count. You only have two retractions before I start ignoring new guesses.

You can retract your guess by sending another ask along the format of: “WAIT! Retraction! My NEW guess for your MXTX Remix work is the [fandom] fic: ‘[fanfiction title]’.” If you’re vague about which one is your final guess, I will take your most recent guess (under the limit of two retractions) and ignore all the others. My MXTX Remix project is going well. I’ve figured out all of the worldbuilding details that were tripping me up, I think, so it should be smoother sailing from here on out. 

The next chapter of “pride is not the word I’m looking for” just moved up to #1 on the fanfiction priority list for the next week. I’m hoping to have a lot of Binghe in this one. Lots of martial family and found family stuff.

Obviously not an official entry for your game because I'm anon (and I'm always anon!) but if you're partly just curious about how / why people ID you, I'm would guess that you wrote the Star Wars SVSS one. Which as great! I think that because (1) it was super long, (2) you like classic media cross-overs, (3) like, the general level of description of the setting. And if I'm wrong I'm not going to be ashamed! Ah, the beauty of anon.

Congratulations, Anon, you nailed it! I wrote the SVSSS fic “this point of pale light” for the 2021 MXTX Remix -> a Star Wars / Space Opera AU starring Shen Jiu with Shen Yuan as a symbiote! 

I know I said that my fic was “somewhere among the SVSSS, MDZS, and The Untamed works (not TGCF, because I haven’t read TGCF yet). Yes, it’s true, I write MDZS/Untamed fanfiction too sometimes!”, but that’s because there weren’t that many Scum Villain fics in the collection and I was afraid that my wordcount combined with the writing and formatting style would give me away immediately! I had to give myself a fighting chance! 

I do like classic media crossovers. The person whose fic I was remixing is a Star Wars fan, which gave me the perfect excuse to indulge in some Space Opera aesthetic, on top of some Liushen with some Sci-Fi twists. 

Thank you to everyone who indulged me and made a guess, and either put me through the mortifying ordeal of being seen or gave me some awesome new fic recs! I’ll be replying to asks shortly, as soon as I’ve double-checked that my list is complete. And I’ll have the details for sticker requests up soon.

Priority for this week is my MXTX Remix project, trying to make regular progress on it to prevent deadline panic, so I’m probably not going to be updating “pride is not the word I’m looking for” this week. PINTWILF is my priority after that. 

Beyond that... I have some very fun one shots started or outlined, but they’re not likely to get much attention if any before the MXTX Remix project is done (deadline is Feb 27th). 

The “Moshang Friends Allies With Benefits” fic is slowly chugging along at 16,000 words now, since I’ve been setting it aside and focusing on other things, and a very optimistic goal for finishing it (given other projects) at the moment is Valentine’s Day. Writing fic that’s all about them having sex (or trying and failing to have sex, it only took them 15,000 words) when I don’t actually write explicit sex scenes has been kind of interesting.

So, the “Shang Qinghua / Original Shen Qingqiu” prompt that I mentioned in the last Author Commentary for “pride is not the word I’m looking for” was actually a “Mobei-Jun / Shang Qinghua / Original Shen Qingqiu” prompt. 

I looked at that ask like, “Hi?! Hello?! Anon?! What the fuck is this?!” And then I was like, “Oh, no. I’m thinking about it.” 

So, as soon as I’m finished Untitled MXTX Remix Project (due February 27th, yikes) and can return to my other SVSSS one-shots written in between chapters of PINTWILF, I am coming for that “Hi, what brain level is this and how do I get on it?” prompt (among others)! I have a concept for that fic! I have an outline for that fic! I could make it work! 

Again, not to say that Shang Qinghua has a type... but Shang Qinghua has a type and it’s handsome, deadly, intimidating, frosty men with a villainous character design and trust/abandonment + communication issues.
