Nikitha, for the name game please:) (ps these are so beautiful!)
Nikitha is someone with silver-toned skin and a jewel for a heart. they belong to a world that is lost to myth and legend, of an age when all that is holy are treated as gods. Nikitha was a serpent, once. of a garden tale more ancient and wicked than perhaps that of eden’s. now they live in a forest of jagged glass spires and ocean-wide domes. they are a pillar of brutal cunning and poison-laced secrets. they are tired of playing, but they cannot help it. buried in their heart is the aching need to simply love and be loved. but they won’t let themself pursue it. what are they afraid of?
give me a name, I’ll give you a character.

lmao i love how in this weeks adventuring party episode, emily was hyping up murph so hard. like imagine trying to reconcile with your fictional wife with your real wife cheering you on from the sidelines as a twelve year old wolf girl.

can we just talk about how lonely the professor was before he went back in time? we never knew if he had a family nor his origins, and often it seemed like he didn’t either. and now he’s back with his mom and dad and able to introduce him to beef boy and :((

okay wait i get some of the backlash against watcher for creating their own platform, but how is this any different to what dropout did? didn’t they talk about how the company was struggling to stay profitable in past videos?

in a season that's supposed to be about horror and fear, i've never been actually scared during the show like i have been in episode 15. truly the greatest fear in this world is talking to other people.

the way every gerardelody post on here makes me weep, it’s so gut wrenching. i thought the character’s i’d be most invested in was rosamund and little red but this little frog has creeped up into my heart and made a home

everytime i think about goncharov’s ultimate demise, i think about that one richard siken poem:
“someone has to leave first. this is a very old story. there is no other version of this story.”

the thing that always drew me to elody and gerard was the idea of the story continuing, beyond what was written, and the continuing comparison of story vs. people.
stories are meant to hit certain notes, have a fixed structure that cannot be changed. even if all the actions in between the plot-moving points were interchanged, even if all the minute details were still changed, they are still trapped within that shell of what the story is.
to a certain extent, their lives, their decisions, their choices have no real meaning when the story is ongoing and the story itself is a shield to the reality of the character.
when you take away that structure or that narrative shield, there is nothing protecting them because that part of the story just doesn't exist. their characters up until that 'happily ever after' is two dimensional, forced to meet a pre-written destiny. suddenly, after the happily ever after, they are three dimensional and allowed their own choices.
when we look at both gerard and elody from that perspective, what else could they have done but fall apart? elody was trapped after that happily every after when gerard was freed.
for gerard, he was the 'main character', the dynamic character. he was meant to start as 'spoiled'/'arrogrant' and transition into a better version of himself. yet, even though he reached the 'correct ending', of marrying the princess and achieving that happily ever after, he never grew because no matter what choices he made, he would have gotten that happy ending. in a way, it enforced that the only thing that essential to his existence was survival more than being brave or standing up for what is right.
elody on the other hand was the side character, the instrument with which he would achieve a happily ever after. when she was within the story, she was protected in a way that gerard wasn't. she was allowed a freedom because the only real 'fixed' point was getting married to gerard.
she was allowed to make her own choices because she was not part of a main narrative until she met gerard in the lake, something that gerard was never allowed until after his happily ever after. gerard was always in the narrative, he was always part of the story, forced into these fixed points in his story.
their marriage, the happily ever after, pulled elody firmly into the story and into the narrative, forced to fit into the happily ever after whereas gerard was freed, but with no real character development or tools to enjoy that freedom.
side thing i realized while writing this that is beside the point, but the froggyness was never a curse, it was the story that he lived within that was the curse.
