oh man i had so much fun with brainstorming this stuff back when i made Our Love Is Here To Stay. will constantly be referring back to this fic as i talk about them

Will - I made him kinda showboaty and full of himself in my fic lol, but also i feel like that's kinda true about his character, from what i remember off the top of my head. Also weird vibes. Like, once, when I was a teen, I think I dreamt that he had a crush on me and wanted me to date him instead of Lance? So I kiiiiiindaaa very subtly snuck that into the background lore of the fic. I think Riya was the only one I've told that to so far, outside of whenever I probably posted that on my devart journal when it first happened lol?. Basically, he's just Lance's coworker to me.

Bruno - Love this guy, or well, the way he came out in the fic. Basically kinda borrowed a smidge from pokemas' direction with his character, but also the idea that he's also one of those cheerful loudboxes with how often he shouts HOO-HAH! or something :p Canonically, I don't think he'd be as big of a softie as I wound up writing him, but it was too funny not to think about him being like that. He's always very nice and sweet with me and greets everyone loudly. He was also the one who won all the betting pools on when Lance and I would date/propose/etc. Everyone overthought it, he just synthesized gossip info from the pokecen/league employees. He's kinda like that boisterous loud uncle who would also get very serious if someone tried to hurt you? But mostly we just enjoy having Pokemon battles together a lot and sometimes he shares his food with me if I'm waiting for Lance at the Pokemon League.

Karen - I love Karen!!!! I forget where the hell I got the idea that she was canonically a model/fashionista of some sort, but you can't tell me that's a wrong headcanon to have. She's that work bestie-in-law kinda thing except it's my husband's work but my bestie when i go there. She'll share devious little secrets about Lance with me, especially in the early/dating years, though by now there's less she could share that I wouldn't already know/believe. She still tells me when he's done something embarrassing (for him) and then I get to just later be like "So, honey... about <redacted event>?" "I really wish Karen didn't catch that =_="

When Lance and I were first dating/almost dating, she was very supportive and helpful for basic dating/beauty/appearance tips. c: She also sometimes envies us, because she hasn't had a lot of long-term relationships that worked out because of her position/goals/life ambitions and beliefs.

Koga - embarassing old man co-worker that you tease your husband about him becoming. Koga and I have battled enough, from when he was originally a Gym Leader and again after his promotion to the E4, that he respects me as a Pokemon Trainer. But it took awhile for him to start seeing me as a grown-up adult from when I most battled him as a kid and teen. We have a fairly amicable relationship overall, as far as the coworker vs coworker's wife dynamic goes. He's this cool but sometimes embarrassingly out of touch old guy I know and I'm some person who can help translate his teenage daughter's mysterious ways!

Thank you so much for asking about them! I absolutely love getting to talk about them whenever I can on a meta level bc of the fic I wrote, bc I went from being like "yeah sure they're characters may as well include them" to "this is my husband's squad of coworkers and everyone in this group is embarrassing to each other in some way shape or form."

But yeah God wait bc in my own hcs, Clair is actually one of Lance's E4 (replacing Koga), w Silver being the one in charge of Blackthorn's Gym, I might have to edit the prev post jfkdnd

Anyways

Yeah the Kanto trio, especially Green since he's still Viridian's Gym Leader, they're a bit skeptical at first, they know how rash and impulsive Lance can be, and Red and Blue fully expects Green to be all "that man's lost it." But,, he was strangely quiet. For Green, he's kinda w Lance and Diantha on this one, he believes that maybe the world will be better without bad people, and from experience since he was also a bit mean back then, he knew how much he hurt Red and Blue, but not again. In a perfect world, Red and Blue won't get hurt, and he'll be better, he won't lose them again.

The Johto trio... Man, Silver's having a crisis. This was the same man that helped him better his ways, and now he's seeing Lance go down a dark path. That's basically his dad at this point and he's witnessing his bastardization arc hahah. But fr tho, idk, maybe he'd be conflicted at first, but then again, the thought of the world without any organizations like Rocket tormenting them over and over again is a nice thought. Plus, y'know, Gold and Kris won't have to worry abt the threat of Rocket being back again, and they could just live their lives peacefully

The Hoenn trio, idk I feel they'd be neutral the same way Steven and Wallace are. They see Diantha's point, but they also see how she's wrong in pursuing it. May just kept quiet about her standing on it, Wally was honestly terrified by the thought of an all out war between the regions, but Brendan's trying to calm all of them down saying that maybe Wallace is right, Diantha could still be saved.

The Sinnoh trio, no they're against Diantha's cause. While they do think that a world without all evil is great, it's basically just Galactic all over again but with a slightly different cause. They aren't vocal abt their opinions tho, and they try to comfort Cynthia as well, they know how much stress she's already under. But for now they're just preparing if ever Diantha, or even Kalos in its entirety, tries to attack

The Unova gang,, well,, the same as the Sinnoh trio really, bc it's basically Plasma in a different font, but then again, they also know how caring Diantha is, especially to Iris, and even when they visited Kalos, Diantha welcomed them w open arms. They're also conflicted really, because some believe that Diantha is doing smth right, she just has to be guided, while some believe she's really lost it and she needs to be taken down. They never tell Iris abt their own thoughts on it.

The Kalos gang, they honestly felt like they've been lied to and used by their Champion, and it all adds up now that Calem figured out why he couldn't capture Yveltal, even w Xerneas by his side. But they also still respect her in a way, she really guided them in their journey and helped them stop Flare. But now they thought abt it, was that an act too? Maybe it is, maybe it's not. Maybe Diantha's just scared too, maybe she really needs all the guidance she can get, as much as they're scared of her now, Diantha's still important to the professor, and they know how important Augustine is to her, and w that they know her humanity is still there, she just needs help on finding it again

The Alola gang, Gladion would be against Dia ofc, and he and Hau argue about it almost every day, to the point that Gladion decided to just keep his mouth shut bc it really upsets Hau. The other three didn't voice their own concerns too, they already know that Hau knows there's smth wrong, but... Diantha was family to him now, and Lillie and Gladion knows that feeling too well. Elio wasn't really updated w a lot of stuff, so he's just trying to lighten the mood everytime they talk abt it, and Selene's just quiet the same way Gladion is.

The Galar trio, man when they found out abt how corrupt their league truly was they couldn't believe it at first. And then they got confirmation from Raihan, from Allister, and from Sonia. And God it was terrifying how detailed Sonia was, remembering the time Rose did threaten her w death, bc he knows she's the only other trainer who could easily beat Leon. They try not to talk abt it that much, especially since Hop's close to breaking down, finding about his brother being part of Rose's scheme, and doing nothing when he knew what was going on. Their views on Leon did change tho, Hop's especially, so now he tries to avoid his brother as much as he can.

The Paldea gang, well, they know their own region isn't as strong as the other regions' leagues. They know that. Considering that Penny hacked into the league. So they all decided it's best to just keep quiet and support Geeta at the moment, as she really needs it. They believe it's the safest option, as Geeta is quite close to Diantha, so w that, maybe Diantha won't try to attack Paldea too.

I feel bad for leaving my Kanto-Johto league split idea and the oc's that came with it empty, so here's a refresher + even more brainstorming.

At some point, Kenji, my oc and Champion if the indigo League, has decided to split the league. His reasoning is to give Johto the chance to fully blossom as a league on it's own, as more often than not it's overlooked next to Kanto. The split goes like this:

The Elite 4 is split into 2, Will and Karen joining the Johto Exclusive league, while Bruno and Koga/Janine stay in Kanto. Given that this split takes years after the main events of the game, there are bound to be changes to the gym roster. For one, Falkner is no longer a gym leader- he became part of the Elite 4 of Johto! His gym was made into a center got bird types. In his place is an oc of mine, Phlox Willowvale ( xyr first name is gonna change), who is now the grass type gym leader.

Pryce has retired by now, so in his place is his grandson. I have yet to give him a proper name, but much like his grandfather, he specializes in ice types.

For now, those two are the only changes to the gyms in Johto. I am considering having Chuck retire as well, but for now he stays.

Going back up to the Elite 4, there's only one spot left, to which I'm planning on adding an electric type trainer. Her concept is honestly all over the place, so she's very unpolished right now. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share!

With Johto done( kinda, still need to brainstorm), we move to Kanto, which is also going through some changes. With Sabrina long retired for her acting career, I believe that she is replaced with another pyschic type specialist. I love the idea of having an old wizard dude in her place, but the idea needs to be fleshed out.

Now you must have noticed how I mentioned Koga/Janine as the Elite 4 member along side Bruno in Kanto. Cause I literally just realized that without the shared league that justifies having a poison type gym leader and elite 4 member, there can't be two for one region. So, either Koga gives his spot to Janine as a E4 member, or Janine steps down as gym leader. Honestly? I like the idea of passing the mantel to his daughter ( again). They're could be something said about nepotism, but this isn't the first time a gym leader has given their duties to a relative, so who isn't to say the same can be said for an E4 member. Though I will say that might be a bit more challenging than passing down a gym.

So, with no Poison type gym, what takes it's place? Fairy! I feel there's a lot of irony there. A concept that I like that goes with the old wizard dude for the pyschic gym is an old fairy biker/greaser. They would be married and would visit each other when they're not busy. May have a past with Koga himself.

And finally, Blue.....yeah he's no longer a gym leader lol. He quit to handle the Battle Tree in Alola. In his place is Arabella. Much like Blue, he uses different types but mostly normal to stay under that legal restriction. It gives headaches to those in charge of the gyms but it's hilarious to Arabella and the other trainers in the Viridian Gym. As always, Daisy is a B's k up gym leader. The only reason why she isn't one full time is because she's s professor, coordinator and occasional daycare worker. She got her hands full lol. ( This just reminds me that I need to figure out what to do with Green).

I am sad that I can't do the normal type E4 member, but consistency demands it. One day....( Oh wait, maybe I could do that in Sinnoh as Bertha's replacement. Huh.)

Blane is also retired and I have no clue who takes his place. I know it's another fire type specialist, but who they are and what they're like evades me.

Going to the Kanto Elite 4, there's a problem. I don't plan on having any other gym leader outside of Janine move up the ranks ( it's poetic how both Falkner and Janine move up to such a high placement, me thinks), but that leaves two spots left. The problem is Lance. I dunno what to do with him.

I plan on having Kanto and Johto have their own champions, and Kenji is obviously staying in Johto ( until, like, the Tainted Heart arc, but that's for later. Also still not sure if that would be an au of an au or should I make it canon), so Kanto doesn't have a Champion. I'm not sure if Lance would go back to being champion after the years he was in retirement. This is more towards me not knowing how I want Lances character to be in the legendverse. I know he's a father figure to Silver ( literally adopted him), and he takes what he does seriously. But what else? What more could there be to him? Does he want to be back into the League , either as a E4 member or as a Champion? That's what I'm figuring out. So right now the Kanto Elite 4 is a big question mark.

But that's the Kanto-johto league split for my au! I feel like I've repeated myself so many times with this, but I also feel I get a little closer to getting a better picture of how I want this plotline to go. So thanks for making it through my ramble!

I like to think that in the Mangaverse that Kanto is just a constant bar fight with every gym leader and e4 member going at eachother's throats for the champion title because Erika just had to mention that "We have no champion after Lance left" which of course started with Sabrina taking over...and then Misty taking the title which then drew Koga's ire and then it just spiraled out of control to where there's at least 3 meetings in a week instead of the standard 1 per month because of the sheer chaos Erika has unleashed

And what does Erika do about it?

Sits back and waits for when either Misty,Brock or Surge takes the title and just rips it away with her horrible (affectionate) grass types.

This was easy. So easy, in fact, that I got stupid overconfident and played myself. Thank god for BP Erika.

Koga was actually hilarious. Rosanta doesn’t have her Hail on entry node, but she didn’t need it. All The Presents is more than enough to buff the other two fast enough that they just sweep. We beat them so hard they didn’t even reach sync. It honestly wasn’t even fair. But it was funny.

Bruno was the same deal. Psychic spam is ridiculously good, and any time I think about how good Caitlin is here, I remember that Giovanni is stronger and has an EX, and it’s just like how does anyone lose to a Psychic-weak stage anymore? Probably by not having Bianca, if we’re being real.

Will was tougher because Poison’s just a bad type to have to rely on. Plumeria isn’t particularly great, and we came really close to losing more than the first time. I decided to use Lyra for Light Screen support against the guy I figured would be specially offensive. Instead he had Stomp and Bullet Seed. Played myself count: 1. Otherwise this one wasn’t bad.

Karen was kinda tough, but not so tough I couldn’t have won with Olivia if I needed to. But I got over-confident, and I got impatient, and busted out SS Leaf for maximum cheese. Playing myself count: 2. I also brought Wallace because he and SS Leaf clear stages really fast and this seemed like a good idea. Played myself count: 3.

So now, anyone familiar with this fight knows exactly where this is going. Lance was hard as shit, because he’s super prepared for just about everything. For instance, my game plan was Champion Iris and Cyrus to beat him pretty easy. Cyrus has easy crit and Crit Strike 10, and Iris can lower his stats. There’s even a condition about lowering stats! So I went with that one thinking we’d be fine. Well it turns out he has Crit Shield to stop Cyrus’ crits, and then it’s over for him. And on sync, he removes all stat debuffs so he can spam Draco Meteor. Oh right, he’s also specially offensive, so...oops on using Lyra. Might’ve been able to use that permanent Light Screen, but nope, I am a buffoon.

So then I started panicking about getting things to work. I tried Anniversary N to see if the combination of stat drops and their buffed sync moves would do the job, but I forgot they’re both 0/20 and 1/5, so no Devastation or Pecking Order, and therefore nowhere near the needed damage. Also N is weak to Dragon, which went about as well as you could expect. So then it was hey, maybe I can bring a strong enough frontliner with healing to win this! And it turns out Kiawe is weak to Water. Which both of the sides have. So like...basically everything I tried with a fair fight didn’t work.

So I had to cheese stall him again. Skyla and Leaf has Potions and two MPRs on them. Erika can both Toxic and Trap, so she’s the best for stacking stall damage. Leaf spams her sync three times to max out all stats, and then we proceed to wall. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Lance’s sync doesn’t just clear stat debuffs. It clears status. Including things like confuse, flinch, and trap. So hey, that’s fun I guess, having to constantly re-apply Toxic and Infestation after each of his syncs, resetting the counter. Needless to say things got a bit dire. The first attempt, his third sync could one-shot Erika, which ruined the run because it also cleared status. So I had to use 4* power ups to get her to 5*, and upped her level from 120 to 135. Then, they did pull it off by sheer Potion MPR and stat walling. A bit cheese, but also, really fun. I never expected base Erika to have this much value after SS Leaf migrated into existence, but she’s pretty great. Can’t wait for 3/5 for that extra Pokey Trap 2. That’ll matter.

So yeah, that’s the story of how I won so hard on the E4 that I almost locked myself out of a way to beat Lance. Thank you, BP Erika, for saving me.

I had some ideas these last days, like:

La Da Dee (Cody Simpson) but is FatherlyShippind

Birds (Imagine Dragons) but is Falkner's back story (with at first Walker being a "good father" but then abandoning him and Falkner dealing with all of that, at first not accepting it and then gradually understanding what really happened) (and at the end of the song when they are just repeating the same phrase, it shows Walker coming back but Falkner is already an adult)

Waiting For Love (Avicii) but is Koga/Janine back story (at the beginning of the song it shows a little of Koga's story, but when the voice starts to sing the days of the week, baby Janine is already there) (and in the second part of the song there is more focus on Janine when Koga becomes E4)

Subject: How Plateau Challenges Work

((So the way I see it, when a Challenger makes it to the Plateau and arranges to begin the Elite 4 + Champ run, they either wait in the Pokemon Center lobby or there’s some other waiting area inbetween the stairs to Will and the Center. Point is, once a formal challenge is made and the badges are all verified by the gatekeepers, all Elites and the Champ will get paged by the gatekeepers (either on their Pokegears or an actual pager, something).

When the gang gets paged, they have probs like 5-10 mins to get their asses in their places and ready themselves for the challenger. All excuses for absence or inability to answer the page (besides freak emergencies) must be submitted at the beginning of the work day, so if there’s none, you have no excuse. Get to your chamber or get chewed out by Lance when you come back lol.

Now, Koga, Bruno, Karen, and the Champ all have leeway with the 5-10 min rule because, well, they dunno if the Challenger will make it to them or not. It’s especially rare for people to get to even Karen let alone Lance. So they can still chill out in the break room or do whatever, but they at least need to be on guard tho. The only one who really needs to adhere to the 5-10 min rule is Will because EVERYONE is guaranteed to face him haha. It’s not that big a deal for Will tho because of his Xatu. He can be literally anywhere in the world and be back at the Plateau instantly for a Challenger because of Teleport. So he can be and often has been paged while in the middle of say, shopping in a foreign region. It’s led to a few funny scrambles lol, but he hasn’t missed or been late to any Challengers yet!

Now, should any of the E4 be beaten, either they or some other automated system sends out another page notifying the remaining members of the other’s defeat. So when Will gets beat, Koga, Bruno, Karen, and Lance get a follow-up page announcing that. Like a little reminder. Anyone who is not actively battling the Challenger can watch the current battle from the break room. I personally hc that the other 3-4 members who aren’t in battle atm all hang in the break room at times to critique both the Challenger and their fellow co-worker’s performance.

Should anybody make it to Lance, I imagine the E4 getting especially excited watching it in the break room. I know my Will does lol))
