ok it’s time for elvira’s yearly reading wrap up! best and worst of 2023:
worst:
the cabin at the end of the world, paul tremblay - disappointing. could have been so good but, alas, was not.
the silent patient, alex michaelides - quite possibly my least favourite of the year. people were telling me how shocking it was and how it had a huge plottwist. this plottwist was predictable from PAGE ONE. please.
the grimoire of grave fates - i remember nothing except being bored.
hide, keirsten white - i hate when horror is bad <3
filth, irvine welsh - okok my second attempt at reading irvine welsh. i liked parts of this book but not enough to even slightly enjoy it as a whole.
finnegans wake, james joyce - i wasn’t sure whether this should go in best or worst honestly. such a huge phenomenon, purely because it’s “unreadable”. i still don’t know how to feel.
best:
12 bytes, jeanette winterson - miss winterson can do no wrong in my eyes. brilliant reflections on technology, written beautifully.
new animal, ella baxter - just SUCH a good time!! great novel on grief and sexuality.
the gilded wolves, roshani chokshi - i’m very picky about my fantasy books, but i fell in love with this trilogy so fast. the characters are incredible and diverse, and finding a canonically autistic character meant a lot to me.
tripping arcadia, kit mayquist - creepy, gorgeous, has not left my mind. i can’t even explain it, it is just an Experience. Go read it.
how to sell a haunted house, grady hendrix - FUN HORROR!! HAUNTED HOUSE!! EVIL PUPPET!!
when we lost our heads, heather o’neill - lesbian marie antoinette historical fiction? yes.
no longer human, osamu dazai - gorgeous tale of existence and misery. loved loved this one.
i who have never known men, jacqueline harpman - heartbreaking and real. one of those books i think everyone should read.
patricia wants to cuddle, samantha allen - lesbians and furry little monsters. weird as fuck and so funny.
penance, eliza clark - reflections on true crime and the rivalries between teenage girls. gruesome and fascinating.
not forever but for now, chuck palahniuk - MY MAN RETURNED!!!! and i am so goddamn grateful. nauseating but stunning. masterpiece as always.
house of hunger, alexis henderson - gothic vampire novel with a touch of haunted house story and eerie lesbians.
sign here, claudia lux - one of the funniest books i’ve read in a LONG time. selling your soul to the devil is basically the same as working for capitalist organizations.
the child thief, gerald brom - HORRIFYING version of peter pan. brom always makes me utterly nauseous and i am ovsessed with him in every way.
the girls, emma cline - 60’s cult vibes, true crime, just a solid piece of literature.
angels before man, rafael nicolas - basically gay bible. 10/10.
silver under nightfall, rin chupeco - poly queer vampires. gritty gore. amazing world building. cannot WAIT for the sequel.
none shall sleep, ellie marney - me? enjoying crime fiction from someone other than karin slaughter or tana french? it IS, apparently, possible.
house of leaves, mark z danielewski - IT IS ABOUT! THE! SYMBOLISM! I WANT TO YELL.

I need to rant about helluva boss xD
Personally I’m not sure why I still watch it tbh xD I think it’s the art style mostly.  This show gets so much praise and I really don’t get why.... First of all the Stolitz ship.  Ah yes, the Stolitz shit.
Okay, so until ep 1 of season 2 came out, there was still a bit of room for speculation about how Blitz and Stolas feel about each other.  And this ep literally KILLED the ship. Like...how are y’all still shipping this?? xD
We know for sure that Blitz was always a little shit using Stolas. And yes, I Know he had a fucked up father. But he still kinda decided to grow into a little shit, while Stolas for example did not.  Blitz used Verosica, he used Stolas pretending to be his friend and he’s using him now. The only exception to this dynamic might be Fizz.  So where’s that cute, romantic part you’re talking about?
They met as children, had one day where both had kinda fun. Because yeah...they’re kids. I mean Blitz had Fizz. So...I’d assume it wasn’t all that special playing with Stolas. For Stolas, it was a rare occasion. Okay. That’s pretty one-sided to begin with honestly. And again, that was one day in their childhood (if I’m not completely mistaken). And I’m damn well sure Blitz didn’t think of Stolas until he decided to steal that book xD which is...pretty fucking normal really. They met once. (Also...maybe it’s just me, but their friendship felt super out of place for me. And...how does Blitz and Stolas being around the same age work at all?)
Then they meet again when Blitz is once again, attempting to steal from him.  And then he fucks him out of pity.  Back in episode 7, I kinda got Blitz’ point when he said he was never more then a sextoy for Stolas. At this point, I was actually starting to think okay, maybe it’s not completely one-sided. Maybe there’s more to that.
But here’s the thing. I don’t think there is more to that. Like...things just don’t add up in this show. The characters seem to keep switching their intentions and it’s just weird at this point.
The circus killed Stolitz. xD and I really hope these two don’t end up together.
And spare me those THEYRE IN HELL HELL IS TOXIC bullshit. No. There are pefectly fine ships in this show.
So coming back to the character’s switching intentions problem...
I think helluva boss is actually meant to be deep...but the show just ain’t deep. They’re constantly killing the potential there is by ‘solving’ things way to quickly and handling character development inconsequently.
Once I think I got what’s going on in a character they’re acting out and it’s not ‘ohh, plottwist’-surprising. I’m just constantly WTFing at what everybody’s deal is.
Like what the fuck is everybody’s deal in that show?? xD Character’s don’t give a fuck (or maybe just the fuck looking at Stolitz) and all of the sudden BOOM deep shit to that and actually we do care. But...none of them didn’t act like that at all before... and it feels OUT OF PLACE.
The whole show’s goal feels all over the place for me.  It’s like an edgy teenager (no offense to all the edgy teenagers out there :D) tried to make an adult show cause they’re GROWN UP NOW! Let’s get to the adultery by...using sex, drugs and...lots of CUSSING! yeah! AND OH, it needs to have deep plottwists...
But actually the writers don’t really seem to know how to do that.  Sorry to all helluva boss fans who might read that. But I just can’t stand this ‘we pretend to be something we are not’ attitude.

Cursed Blessings - Chpt.2
Pairing: Thomas Jefferson x reader
Warnings: Language, angst, suggestive material, misunderstandings and bad researched background of job titles.
Chpt. 1 ~ Chpt.3
Wow, I don't like how I wrote this part at all. But bare with me, I swear we’re getting somewhere...eventually. The plot line is there, it’s just...coming together slowly. I hope yall will continue to read this series, if you could call it that? So yeah, I apologize for the rusty chapter. Lemme know if you want to be tagged. Enjoy!
Three years later
Flying made him nervous. It was just a big box floating in the air, and it was unsettling to think there was nothing but clouds around him.
The stewardess was shooting him concerning looks as Thomas kept ordering alcohol. He doesn’t blame her, but it wasn’t like he was going to become a loose drunk, especially not when he’s so anxious to get on the ground.
New York was not his favorite place to be, especially not in the winter. Bustling traffic, tourists looking for a white Christmas, and Thomas was just trying to keep this branch under control. Washington said that they were still new, that the office needed someone who was ‘experienced.’
As if the years of keeping his office door shut, retorting quickly, and even making an employee cry was considered “experienced.”
Maybe he’s been a little more preoccupied with work than usual, but it’s been busy. There was a lot to do, always time to work. Call him a workaholic, but you could never call him lazy. Thomas was productive when it came to his job, never one to let anyone else step over how much dedication he put into his work.
But this is where he’d stay for now at least. His temporary penthouse was near a bar and a coffee shop, which he figured he would be spending a lot of time at both. As soon as he landed, he got a cab and moved his stuff in. Two hours later after a visit to the store, he was on the couch in his pajamas, eating and watching terrible tv dramas.
And that was pretty much the next two days. New York was just like any other city he’s visited, it was nothing special. He was perfectly fine with lounging around until he needed to go in for work.
That was until he ran out of his basic necessities, and was forced to throw on pants to go outside. There wasn’t a supermarket far from his place, and given it was late on a Sunday night, it was pretty quiet.
Thomas roamed the aisles slowly, and thought about how exhausting the next couple of months were going to be. He wasn’t one to volunteer to practically train an entire office floor, neither was he sure that he could do it patiently. Hence he had an enclosed office back in Virginia where he could keep to himself. If the workers back home could barely do their job, surely these people couldn’t either.
Lost in his thoughts, he turned the corner and almost knocked over a small child. His hand automatically reached out to stop her from falling. But she just looked up at him with wide eyes and smiled as if he didn’t almost run her over. Thomas was about to walk around, but she held her hand up, showing off a small rocket.
Thomas slowly took the toy from her, gesturing towards it and shrugging. “Very nice.”
She grinned at his approval, and Thomas didn’t even know if she could understand him.
There was a loud shout behind him, and before he could turn around-
“Sorry, she just got out of my sight for a second.”
Well, Thomas could recognize that voice anywhere.
Y/N still looked the same, but her hair was a bit shorter now. Those sharp eyes always made him catch his breath. But how she looked at him now, Thomas didn’t know what to think.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
They just stared at each other for what felt like hours. He didn’t mind it, because he didn’t know what he was going to say if he pulled his eyes away. However, there was some babbling and then something hit his leg. Thomas completely forgot about the toddler at his feet.
“Sorry,” Y/N walked around him and picked her up. And he could see it now.
The matching eyes, except hers were much brighter. They have the same mole just below their jaw, and their noses have the same little curve.
And how could he miss those curls?
His heart caught in his throat.
“She’s pretty fast...I can’t keep up with her sometimes,” Y/N sighs as she avoids his eyes.
“It’s fine…” Thomas can’t take his eyes off her.
“You’re staring?”
He blinked and looked between the two. Clearing his throat, he couldn’t help but point out the obvious. “You have a daughter.”
Perhaps he said it too excitedly, but Y/N looked almost sad. Like she didn’t have a gift, that they didn’t have a gift. Something Thomas only dreamed about when they were together.
“I do...” Y/N brushed her daughter’s hair back. It looked so domestic, so loving, Thomas almost reached out and did the same.
“What...uh, what’s her nam-”
“Thomas, why are you in New York?”
Right, Thomas wasn’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to be going to this branch, he wasn’t supposed to fly in on a Friday and he wasn’t supposed to be at the store right now. He shouldn’t be so giddy about this discovery.
“For work. I, uh, I have to visit a new branch in the city tomorrow.”
She nodded slowly, almost as if she was trying to sense if he was telling the truth.
“What about you? What are you doing here?”
“I live here.”
That was understandable; it’s a big city, he knew that she had some friends from college living in the city. Thomas also knew why she would want to get out of Virginia, out of the town.
“Cora.”
“I’m sorry?”
“Her name...it’s Cora,” Y/N didn’t look at him, instead looking at her daughter like she was the entire world. She now had her head tucked into Y/N’s neck and staring at him with tired eyes.
As Thomas repeated her name, the air seemed to thicken with tension. He had so many questions, he just wanted to know what Y/N was up to now, how this happened, when it happened? But he couldn’t ask in the middle of an aisle at the store.
“Do you think we could sit down somewhere? Maybe grab a coffee or something?”
“I, uh...I don’t think that’s a good idea, Thomas.” Her grip tightened on her shopping basket as her eyes grew wide.
“Wait, Y/N, please-”
“I gotta go.” And just like that, Thomas lost her again. The only thing remaining was the toy rocket in his hand.
~~~
“You’re back! You won’t believe the shit I just heard.”
Y/N put Cora down and watched her waddle towards the kitchen. She had been crying the whole car ride home; after an entire car search, Y/N couldn’t find her toy and she wasn’t going to go back to the store to see if she left it.
Y/N couldn’t let herself do that.
“Yeah, well you won’t believe what just happened either.”
Closing the door, she followed her daughter inside and set the bags down. She walked in to see her sitting on the counter, a popsicle already in her hand.
“Dude, seriously?” Y/N put a hand to her hip. “I was just about to start dinner.”
“Relax, she’s fine.” A hand swept through her hair as Y/N tried to stop the sticky mess running down Cora’s arm. “As I was saying, do you believe some stuck up southerner is going to sit in as management tomorrow? You believe that? As if he can waltz right in and make some changes. Who does he think he is?”
“I think you’re being a bit dramatic,” The amount of stories that Y/N had heard the last months of idiotic lawyers and disobedient clients were a bit overreacted.
“Believe me, I would never over exaggerate anything when it comes to my job.”
It made Y/N pause, for a second she even thought Cora could understand how ridiculous it sounded.
“Anyways, there is no way that I’m going to sit back and let him take over,” She was sure that her of course you won’t comment was ignored. “But I don’t know how it will affect my schedule.”
“Don’t stress, I’ll find someone to watch Cora when I’m out.”
“You know I would but-”
“It’s fine, Alexander.”
The man straightened at her tone, but nodded nevertheless. He moved around the counter to the fridge. “So, what was it you were going to say?”
Right.
“You won’t believe who I just saw…”
Alexander turned, wide eyed and careful to note her far off look. It could have been a list of people; there had been lots of promising moments ever since Y/N came to New York, lots of friends made, lots of sites seen. However, there were also a lot of complications, lots of threatening emails sent, lots of pressure she was under.
And as her whole mood seemed to stutter into a daze, Alexander could connect the dots easily.
After all, it was the same look she had months into her pregnancy. Months after she left. Months after she stopped getting phone calls. Months after she stopped caring about him.
His Dark Materials - Episode 7
And here we go with the next one! [Book spoilers ahead!!!]
- It’s interesting how two weeks ago I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to get the whole plot of Northern Lights done in three more episodes, then they did all of Bolvangar in only one ep and now we have barely any plot left for the last one. I guess the people who were speculating that season 1 will end with Lyra and Will’s first meeting might be right.
- I just realized we never got to see Lyra have that talk with Serafina Pekkala or... you know... meet her.
- That nurse in the beginning was a badass for standing up to Mrs. Coulter. That said, I still don’t get where her dæmon is. He’s meant to still be there, just not connected to her. If she just straight-up didn’t have one, everyone would have seen that? Lyra dropping that wham-line of “What was his name?” shouldn’t have been a plot twist? Does Jack Thorne understand how dæmons work? Is he just counting on us being so used to there being no background dæmons that this won’t stand out? (Listen, I don’t trust that man to do right by these books... he’s the guy who gave us The Cursed Child, so...)
- I love that they confirmed that Lord Asriel’s last name really is Belacqua. We kind of all assumed it was, but I’m glad they confirmed it. I think it makes Lyra starting to go by “Silvertongue” instead even more meaningful.
- When that prisoner said Lyra was betraying her friend... and he was right except it’s not Iorek she’ll betray...
- Lyra tricking Iofur was an absolutely amazing scene.
- I wish they’d done the reunion between Lyra and Iorek better. She should have at least explained the whole plan to him. (Here’s another part where I have to sadly say I preferred the movie.)
- The bear fight was a little lackluster, tbh. I’m starting to feel like this show’s biggest problem is CGI characters in general. Maybe why some of the stuff with the dæmons wasn’t done justice either. But that moment when Iofur understood Lyra tricked him and just screamed “LIAR!” was absolutely epic. Yes, she is. That’s my girl.
- Iorek awarding Lyra the name “Silvertongue” and her saying it for the first time... I may or may not have cried.
- Boreal is the biggest creep I’ve ever seen and I will never forgive him for freaking out Elaine like that. I hope he dies the cruelest death.
- Will is a sweetheart and I love how his relationship with his mom is being portrayed.
- Also, side-note: I love that the cast is so diverse and that we’re getting a protagonist of colour in the form of Will (which is even more impactful since he’s Lyra’s love interest).
- WILL PARRY JUST KILLED A MAN. Shame it wasn’t Boreal. Glad it was that other creepy guy who spoiled the Grumman plottwist early.
- They’re really coming for my entire heart with all of those cute Lyra&Roger scenes, huh? “I’ll always be there for you” etc. - Thanks, I hate it.
- Gotta say, I found Asriel’s respective reactions to Lyra and Roger a little too intense. The way he almost begs and cries when he sees Lyra and then suddenly is all relieved and gets this evil mad scientist grin on his face when he sees Roger. It’s too much. In the book it was more subtle and it made sense that Lyra didn’t realize what he was up to, but here he’s being all menacing and not even trying to hide that he’s about to murder her best friend.
- What confused me though was Asriel trying to get Lyra to leave again (before noticing Roger). If the wrong child came to him, couldn’t he just... not do it? Is anyone forcing him to do this? Why would Lyra be in danger unless Asriel himself decided to kill her? Is this another Thanos “I would kill my own daughter if I had to” type of situation?
- I also gotta love the parallel of both Asriel and Mrs. Coulter loving Lyra and wanting to keep her safe, but being totally cool with murdering other kids, including her friends (another reason why making the lost boy Billy Costa actually kind of works?). And they both genuinely think their daughter will still want anything to do with them after they’ve killed her friends. I seriously hate both of these characters. I get that they’re well-written and interesting and all that, but kids getting hurt is like my number one berserk button. Characters who hurt or kill kids are a big fat “NO” for me. And I get that that’s kind of the point - since they’re villains and all that - but yeah, I hate them.
I am a weenie man | SHIMURA | Chapter 5 | Trial End | RE: Voting Results, Eiji
It was a miracle.
No, that didn’t sound quite right, did it?
Miracles usually meant something good. Something that everyone was awed by, something that made feel everyone good. However, the situation at hand couldn’t be called that. It was... yes, a plottwist. Something unexpected, coming with good and bad things alike.
SHIMURA hadn’t thought that the votes would change so drastically in the last seconds, yet here they stand, with Daichi winning the majority, while Eiji escapes death.
It was a good thing that no one else had to lose their life.
Yet SHIMURA was terrified what the punishment would be - and he was especially scared for his friend Daichi, who just happened to become the scapegoat all of a sudden.
(He should’ve offered, but there hadn’t been enough time--)
SHIMURA noticed how distracted Saru was, but he remained silent as the murder was shown to them. When Eiji was about to run the sword through Maggie, SHIMURA immediately closed his eyes. Only a few moments afterwards, did he dare to open them again - and he lurched forward a bit when Maggie was shown again, still with the sword in their abdomen and gravity slowly crushing them. The young man had to seek support through his podium to not falter right there and then, downright ashen at this point.
Thankfully, he looked away again when Eiji visited the gravity chambers a second time - and his head stayed low until Saru spoke up again. When he jumped forward to Chase, SHIMURA gasped and shouted:
Tumblr media
“NO, DON’T--!”
And then Chase gets vibe checked several times, which also caused SHIMURA to feel the pain in his head as well - and the lightheadness that came with it.
SHIMURA swayed, barely able to keep himself upright, but the podium did wonders to support him. Blinking a few times, he was able to catch the most important bits that were said. So... that was all the punishment they would get? They’d go straight into another investigation to figure out the whole truth behind this studio, this game? And...
Maggie had been innocent.
The next thing SHIMURA knew, Momoko was bolting out of the trial room, Chase staggered and Eiji hit the floor right in front of him.
Tumblr media
“K-Kagami-san!”
Without thinking, SHIMURA took action and left his podium, staggering a bit, but he managed to kneel down besides the unconscious man and push his own issues aside for the time being. He quickly checked if he injured himself in the fall, before taking a deep, shaky breath and trying to get his bearings together while stuffing the papers away that he'd clutched in his hands for awhile now.
SHIMURA’s feelings were a mess and that’s not only because of the emotions floating around.
It’s also his own emotions that wreck him good.
Eiji killed a friend of theirs. Yet--
He faces one of the cameras.
Tumblr media
“I-- I’m sorry, Maggie-chan, but-- but I can’t leave him just here--!”
There’s so much he has to apologize for.
But right now, someone needed his help and he’d be damned if he didn’t provide the necessary aid right now. Even if he wasn’t the best choice for this task, he didn’t want to burden anyone else with it.
So SHIMURA is attempting to carry Eiji out of the trial - with or without help, he’d somehow manage to do it.
HOB ch.25
hualian is a blessing and are meant to be and how can they be this beautiful HOW! it’s in the little things, or in how they are so carelss with themselves but fiercely protective with each other, i keep feeling like i’m intruding or something, and i’m the reader!!
“Why can’t I come down” Xie Lian asked curiously. This guy can’t possibly enjoy fighting while carrying someone?
San Lang’s answer only had two words: “It’s dirty.”
“...”
Xie Lian had never imagined that to be the answer, in all seriousness too, and thought it was kind of funny, but also made him feel kind of strange, a feeling hard to describe, only that his heart was warm.
(tho i am a bit confused by what’s happening? like, hua cheng is holding him but xie lian said something else is battling against the soldier, also he felt something hard on hc’s arm? explanation, pls?)
EDIT: I probably won’t reach the end of this novel. so, there is blood all over, it’s clear that sl killed everyone, xl is internally gathering all this information and what does he say?
Xie Lian chewed on his words and organized his thoughts before speaking up in a serious tone, “San Lang, next time you see a pit like this, don’t just jump in randomly. I couldn’t even stop you. Really, I didn’t know what to do.”
San Lang didn’t seem to expect this kind of response and let out a confused “eh?” When he spoke again, he sounded a bit odd, “You don’t want to ask anything else?”
(like, yes, sl, that’s his top priority right now because he already knows you’re not really human- uhm, we all know, it’s kinda obvious)
“What else do you want me to ask?” Xie Lian said.
“For example, whether if I’m human.” San Lang replied.
(JUST TELL HIM YOU ARE HUA CHENG)
Xie Lian rubbed his forehead, “Hmm. I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“Is it not?”
“Is it? It’s not important whether if you’re human or not.” Xie Lian said.
“Oh?”
Xie Lian crossed his arms and said, “Relationships should depend on chance and whether if we’re on the same wavelength, not on social status. If I like you, you can be a beggar and I’ll still like you. If I dislike you, you can be the emperor and I’ll still dislike you. Shouldn’t it be like that? It’s simple logic. So, whether if you’re human is irrelevant.”
San Lang laughed out loud, “Yea. You’re very right.”
(GUYS I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I BET SL’S LITTLE HEART MELTED IN THE SPOT THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS I CAN’T EVEN-)
EDIT 2: plottwist, the little dead girl is the bad guy of the situation and now i wanna know who those women from the beginning of this arc are
Oh nononono I meant silly as in it didn’t make sense to me. Why kill His character off when he didn’t do anything to deserve it? He was just a baby who needed All the love and cuddles🥺 but yeah, I did cry when I saw that happen, mainly because I was angry at them for doing it.
I think from a narrative point of view it was a genius move to kill his character off. You know, throughout the entire show he is this young and naive man, who would rather look at the sky and the flowers than learn how to be a warrior. You can see that his almost childish heart brings great dishonour and shame to his (asshole) grandfather, who expects him to be a great warrior (and man) like his half-brother.
Then the dialogue between Tae's character and Park Seojoon's character happens, where he tells him that he will finally start to take his training seriously & that he sees Seojoon's character as a big rolemodel of "how to be a respectable man", you know in the sense of I wanna be as cool as you hyung so I'm gonna start being as brave and cool as you.
And then the fight scene happens where Tae so unluckily steps inbetween, not knowing the entire story (that blade is laced with poison) and thinking that he can finally prove to everyone that he is this brave, strong warrior. Only to then end up dying in the arms of his rolemodel.
And honestly? From an narrator's point of view that move is goddamn brutal. Like we have this character, who is trying to be a better version of themselves for the entirety of the story and then when they finally step up and feel brave enough to be "better" it ends with their death.
Like this is literally heartbreaking to think of. Whoever wrote that plottwist was a genuis. Give a struggling character the growth they so craved for only for them to find out (too late) that this will be the end of them. My heart is shattered and yet as an author I am giving the screenwriter one round of tearfilled applause.
Yes this just turned into an analysis of Tae's character and I am not ashamed jfjdsjf 💜
Digimon Tri - My review of the the first 4 movies
Be warned, I use mostly the german names here... because I am so damn used to them XD
First of all lets talk about which Episode I found was the best... and which one was the worst.
The best episode for me, was definitely the third one. I loved the emotions, the actions, the music was on point and there were almost no unnecessary filler scenes. The only thing you could complain about is, that I can hardly remeber Izzy in that one, despite the fact that it was suppose to be centered around him too. But besides what happened in the final fight, the only thing I can remember ist my poor boy Takeru crying his eyes out, because he realized he is going to lose Patamon once more, this time most likely for good. I loved the moment when all the Digimon did spend their last hours with their partners. I also liked it that we were fooled to believe that the memories of the Digimon could be saved. It was a nice plottwist that it didn’t work. The worst episode for me so far was episode 2. I laughed a lot in this hilarious onsen-scene were Kari got saved from T.k. of all people and Sora ended up infront of the door to the Sauna in which Tai and Matt of all people were in and were just getting out just at the right moment. I really loved that scene, but this whole onsen-scene had no other purpose than fun and fanservice. It was an overly long and unnecessary filler for that episode. Next comes, I personally don’t care for Mimi and Joe that much. And I find some or their character traits extremely annoying. So watching them doing the stuff I dislike about them the most is just really... interesting... at all. Plus, I have nothing against Meiko, but she is a stranger and new to the team and she got a lot of screentime in this episode... which made it even more annoying, because it was the worst mix of characters to have the focus that they could make. At least for me personally. The first episode was a nice starter. You got to get invited to figure out were our characters are right now, what they are doing, their relationships with each other and how they handle their life at the moment. All in all it was a nice introduction to the new season. But I found it was not exactly an episode that I would love. And it centered a bit too much on Tai. Yes, he was and is the star of the Digimon Adventure team, but it still felt like too much Tai to me and it is not like I dislike him, so that is not the problem. When it comes to the 4 and for now last episode I feel a bit... uhm... biased, because I have a certain problem with Tai, Matt and Sora as a trio for reasons only the shipper will understand. But I talk about them later. The point is, the episode centered around them, so it was pretty hard to stay unbiased. But I did like the nostalgie that came with that episode. Being back in the digiworld and all. What I disliked tho, was the fact that Biomons behavior seemed out of character. In the first season, Biomon was unnerving as hell, following Sora around, annoying even the woman with the crest of love and this time Biomon runs away from her? Doesn't seem right to me.
Now lets talk about the overall plot so far and what you think about the characters, now that they are older once more...
I actually feel a bit weird about the plot and some of the characters in a way. Don’t get me wrong, the plot as it is is not bad and all... and I do love and hate the characters as much as I did all those years ago, but some things are not right for me. I actually am not even sure if we can consider Tri canon with some of those things that bug me. Lets talk about our 4 Heroes from season 02 first. I was never a huge fan of them, really. I only liked the second season for Hikari and Takeru and the cameos of the other characters from  the first season. BUT how they treat them here is absolutely stupid and not acceptable in any way. I do understand why they wanted them out of the way, since this season was suppose to be about the characters from season one, but there had to be another, a better way, to get the 02 kids out of the way. The way they did it in the movies was very cheap. First of all, Takeru and Hikari belonged to the 02 Team. They were not just an addition or more experienced Digidestined which helped them find their way into the world, they were part of the team. What happend to the oh so over the top promoted friendship between Kari and Yolei or T.k. and Cody? What happened to that deep connection between them that helped their Digimon to evolve together? They are missing right now in the movies, but they didn’t even realize that something was off until they saw the “Emperor” and even after that, they were easily convinced that everything is alright. Kari and Davis have always been good friends, why didn’t she call him to ask were his best friend Ken went or if something unusual happened to him? And why aren’t they around anymore? Like... they were all in the same school. And Davis was in Hikaris and Takerus class... why is he not even on the same school? Because if he would be, they surely would wonder why he doesn’t come to school anymore. (I just realized how good it is that hardly any shipper ship Kari and Davis, because for them, this season must be the biggest disappointment ever...) No one really deeply seems to care. And I also found Takerus reaction when the saw the “emperor” a little odd. He was a bit like “Oh no, it is that asshole again”, acting like Ken never was part of their team. This feels so not right. And I dislike it and understand every fan that complains. They have every right to. Next... Takeru is popular among girls, which is no big deal, he is cute and all, but how he acts about that seems so out of character to me. I never saw him being the boy who enjoys being popular among girls and also it seems so unlike Takeru to be so flirty and stuff, seeing how he interacted with Meiko when she showed up and his reaction when the concert got cancelled. The way Hikari teases him says it all, it seems like he toys around with girls, never beeing serious. That is not my baby boy T.k. and I refuse to believe he would EVER become like that. There is once more the Trio that gives me a headache, but I will write about that in the next post. Something that bugs me a bit too, his how Meiko was so easily accepted into the team. I mean, she gets invited to go with them to take a hot bath on what felt like the next day, while no one bother about the 02 kids. I honestly thing its the writers own fault that she gets so much hate, when you look at it. Other then that, most of the plot and the way the characters became are okay. I actually thought that Kari had made quite the progress, but seeing how she got stuck with Tai the whole 4. episode it felt like I was wrong. I do think, although it was annoying, that Tai fearing that his actions might hurt or even kill someone only shows that he is more mature and thinks more about his actions and the consequences that follow. I also like that we get to know more about the very first Digi-destined. Like... finally. We never knew much about them. We just got bits and pieces here and there. And now we might finally found out the entire truth. That is really nice.
Now lets talk about ships and how important it is to watch the movies yourself to understand what really is going on between the ships.
I have been in the digimon tri tag before a few times, keeping myself at least a little up to date, while I was pondering if I will watch the movies or not. And I can teller you that some things were not how the people wrote they were. Lets start with Takari. This is most likely the most popular ship from Digimon seasons one and two. There is hardly anyone else to ship those two with, because of how they already seemed meant to be in the first season, where they were barely 8 years old. Because of the things they have been through in the first season, their bond was extremely close in 02 and even Davis could not really get between them. Now in tri, they are basically always together. Walk side by side, talk to each other, tease each other, support and protect each other. Now I can tell you, as one who ships them too, that in tri, you get good shipping material and shipper are fussing about that since their first scene together ind the first movie. But watching it with a clear head (which I usually try to do), you come across the fact that some things were not as people make them look like. First of all... Karis oh so bad jealousy. Despite the teasing, Kari actually doesn’t really seems jealous at all... not even annoyed. She rather seems amused most of the time. Of course it is a thing of interpretation. But the only thing that hinted for me that Kari was jealous when Takeru told her he would go with another girl to Matts concert, was when she stopped walking for a moment. But the way she reacted was otherwise extremely calm and didn’t show any sign of jealousy. Takeru, on the other hand, pretty much seemed like he WANTED her to be jealous. Of course in the end, you can see that as a stupid game they play. He tries to make her jealous and she know that this is what he wants, so she pretends not to, with that dancing around the real subject behind it: Their feelings for each other. Or... Kari just knows that Takeru is not serious with any of the girls, given the attention she gets from him, it seems hard to believe that she really has a reason to be jealous and so she doesn’t mind. Or, she actually really doesn’t care about Takerus lovelife. It is a possibility. Someone pointed out, that from the very beginning, Takeru had a strong will to protect Hikari, going as far as to lose it in the episode with the black ocean, when she is only talking about her dearly beloved brother Tai, despite the fact that Takeru did care a lot for her too and wasn’t exactly hiding it. The point of that person was that, yes, Takeru protects and support Hikari a lot and often, but that is what he always did. And maybe he really just does it as a good friend, teammate and someone she shared a special bond with, do to what they have been through together and with their beloved Digimon... and annoying big brothers XD All logic aside, since I do ship them, I really enjoyed the many moments were they stood and walked next to each other, teased each other and supported and protected each other. They are hope and light and thus, for me personally, they belong together, always have, always will. And Karis lack of jealousy? Lets go with the “she knows better then to honestly be worried that any other girl could take her place“ because as we saw multiple times in tri, in the end, she is the number one priority right after Matt and Patamon. So why worry? *takes a deep breath* Now to the Trio... Tai, Sora and Matt. I don’t want to go to deep into this, because it really hurts, but let me tell you that I find it offending for both the Taiora and the Sorato fans how they treat them in tri. Digimon 02 made it canon that Sora and Matt were a thing, despite everything that happened between Sora and Tai in the first season and the fucking very first Digimon movie, Tai was shown to be fine with it. Well great. The Sorato fans won and the Taiora fans had to learn to live with it. Or write fanfiction... but you get what I mean. Things were clear. There was no question. We even got confirmation that Sora and Matt got married in the end (fuck this epilogue, really...), so tell me why, why on earth do they have to put a questionmark on those two ships again? Why are they unable to just confirm the one ship that was suppose to be canon for good or for worse, but instead show those 3 always together as a trio? I can not even tell you, how much I hated the 4. tri movie, because of what happened there. Because they made Sorato look like a fucking joke. Matt needed Tai to deal with the woman who is suppose to be his girlfriend and basically, Matt did almost nothing for Sora at all in that episode. When they got attacked the first time, who was it who was holding out his arm protectively infront of Sora? Tai. Who pushed her to the ground to protect her the second time they got attacked? Oh, look, it was Tai? Who was it who said Soras name in worry when the distortion showed that she was in danger? Tai. After Matt and Tai saved her from the following attack, who was the one who genuinely worried asked Sora if she was okay? Look, it was Tai, once again. Matt totally failed in his job to prove that he is Soras boyfriend and deserves to be her boyfriend in this episode. Honestly, every person who did not know that Matt and Sora are suppose to be a canon couple, would have though that Tai is the boyfriend or at least that Taiora is the ship with high chances of becoming canon. Not just because of that, there were other scenes in the other movies too. I know that this is suppose to be fanservice. But I hat it. If you make the choice to make a ship canon, then you have to stand behind it, no matter what. That is it from me about the first 4 episodes. Only 2 left.
