——— character question sheet.
▌real name: Gabriella ‘Gaby’ Teller ( Schmidt ) ▌single or taken: Single ▌abilities or powers: professional driver ( C6 - 2 ), qualified mechanic, trained at the Berlin Ballet school. First Soloist. Languages: German, English, and learning Russian ▌eye colour: brown ▌hair colour: brunette ▌family members: Father ( Udo Teller ) - DECEASED, Uncle ( Rudi ) - DECEASED, Adoptive Mother Schmidt - DECEASED, Adoptive Father Schmidt - DECEASED ▌pets: Illya Kuryakin; none but there is a cat that frequents her apartment building when in London ▌something they don’t like: being told what to do; being manhandled, girdles ▌hobbies/activities: drinking, dancing, working on cars, driving ( they are abilities and hobbies - she does them for fun as well as work ) ▌ever hurt anyone before: yes - unfortunately ▌ever killed anyone before: not directly ▌animal that represents them: german short haired pointer ▌worst habits: strikes out at people when upset verbally, picks fights with people larger than her, impatient ▌role models: her adoptive parents; the Schmidts ▌sexual orientation: pansexual ▌thoughts on marriage/kids: it is not something Gaby ever thought she might get the chance to have. Behind the wall she certainly did not want to bring anyone into that world. Now free of the wall she isn’t sure she wants to bring a child into her UNCLE work. Also she isn’t sure she has the patience for it. Though you’d think working with Illya and Solo would prepare her well enough. Gaby is not confident that she would make a good mother since she did not have the best of upbringings. That being said she would be a FIERCE mother. Marriage is also something she didn’t really think she would have. She is cautious not to let herself dwell on wanting it when she knows that in her current line of work it is not possible. ▌fears: being sent back to East Germany; anything happening to her boys ( Illya, Napoleon, or Waverly ) ▌style preferences: Gaby is more partial to loose moveable outfits like wearing trousers or a jumpsuit/coveralls. That being said she does have a new found liking for brightly colored dresses....not so much the heels. Now that she is out of EG and with access to more choices she is enjoying a colorful life. ▌someone they love: her adoptive parents who took her in and taught her basically everything she knows. oh wait did you mean alive? ▌approach to friendships: Gaby is very hesitant to actually label someone as a friend. She will be polite but she does not open up until she completely trusts you. There are less than a handful of people she qualifies as good friends. ▌thoughts on pie: savory or sweets? she does enjoy a good savory pie ▌favourite drink: vodka ▌favourite place to spend time at: the garage or else watching Napoleon cook though keep those feet smelling truffles away from her; dancing would be her other favorite place to be ( which she does anywhere she can find a moment to unwind/the space ) ▌swim in the lake or in the ocean: both. ▌their type: Typically Gaby is into people that are taller than her. She likes to be the smol. She also likes people that treat her with respect; especially in her job. If you treat her like a human compared to a piece of glass there is a higher chance she’ll like you. There are of course times when she is okay with being treated delicately but they are almost all intimately. Mostly she just needs to feel safe. Gaby has very bad insomnia, so if she can fall asleep easily around you she is very trusting of you. It is rare.  ▌camping or indoors: Gaby is fine with roughing it but she would prefer indoors ✨ TAGGED BY:  @therxdpxril ✨ TAGGING: @hisleisure @russianforged @theymakehistory  ( Illya ) @mosteffectiveagent @likeprotege + whoever wants to do it

So we know wynona can't cook but who of the 7 can and cannot cook well
slkdfjslkdjf I love this so much??
Wynonna--like you said, we know she can’t cook
Waverly--absolutely can cook, will cook circles around you, 100% is that bitch who makes everything from scratch and says the secret ingredient is love
Nicole--cooks okay, it gets her where she needs to go, A+ grillmaster
Doc--can spit-roast a pig, makes a lot of mystery meals, is indiscriminate enough that he doesn’t mind his cooking isn’t exactly great, but it’s more edible than what Nonna makes on any given day
Dolls--I have literally written a fic about how this man can cook and kicks ass at it, cooks as a seduction technique, he and Waves have a friendly (usually) competition to see who can cook the dish at Christmas that gets the most compliments
Jeremy--to the shock and awe of everyone, cooks really well, but is distractable and can/has lit the stove on fire because of it, watches Chopped and says things like “rookie mistake, truffle oil! hah!” while eating a gas station burrito
Rosita--can cook, prefers not to, cites that it’s the 21st century and that’s why God invented GrubHub/Postmates/Doorstep Delivery, always makes desserts that make you feel like you’re in heaven
pls everyone feel free to always ask stuff like this it’s so??? happy

55 NYC Restaurants Selling Groceries And Meal Kits added to Google Docs
55 NYC Restaurants Selling Groceries And Meal Kits
Sure, you could rely solely on your neighborhood grocery store to stock your fridge right now. But we’re guessing that your bodega may not have DIY duck ragu kits and gochugaru-infused rum. Restaurants all over the city are offering pantry items and meal kits for delivery or pick-up, from coffee beans and frozen dumplings to bottled cocktails and lobster roll meal kits. Not only will you get delicious food, but you’ll also be helping to support local restaurants when they need you most.
Not in the mood to cook? Check out our running list of NYC restaurants open for outdoor dining.
Featured In The Ultimate NYC Delivery & Takeout Guide See all our guides the spots Edy’s Grocer $$$$ 136 Meserole Ave
In addition to Lebanese and Polish dishes, this new deli in Greenpoint is selling weekly-changing mezze options, baked goods like salted tahini brownies, and snacks. You can stop by their store every day (except Sunday) to pick up the goods, or text 781-888-3171 to see what’s available for ordering this week.
Sylvia's Restaurant $ $ $ $ Southern  in  Harlem $$$$ 328 Malcolm X Blvd
This iconic spot in Harlem has their own line of things like dry rub spices, hot sauce, and hush puppies mix available online. There’s even a section of the website where you can follow along recipes to make dishes using their products (like a fried chicken sandwich made with their fried chicken mix). Place your order here.
Lan Zhou Handmade Noodle & Dumpling $ $ $ $ Chinese  in  Chinatown $$$$ 40 Bowery
After announcing that they were shutting down on August 15th, 88 Lan Zhou on Bowery will stay open for a little longer. To support this incredible Chinatown restaurant (and to support your interest in delicious dumplings), you can order their homemade dumpling sauce and packs of their frozen dumplings. Each one comes with 50 dumplings and if you want to guarantee a pack, they recommend that you call 646-683-0939 ahead of time to make sure they’re still selling them for the day.
James $ $ $ $ American  in  Brooklyn ,  Prospect Heights $$$$ 605 Carlton Ave.
A few months ago, this Prospect Heights spot pivoted to offer groceries and provisions, as well as takeout cocktails and snacks. You can place your order ahead of time for things like ramp salt, frozen steaks, cherry compote, or a week’s supply of farm produce. They also have a takeout window where you can pick up a little gem salad and one of our absolute favorite burgers in the city. Check out the menu here.
Olmsted $ $ $ $ American  in  Prospect Heights $$$$ 659 Vanderbilt Ave
Considering Olmsted has its own garden and quail coop in its backyard, it’s no surprise that their grocery store (called Olmsted Trading Post) carries lots of things you’re going to want in your pantry, like housemade aji dulce hot sauce, duck breast pastrami, and blood orange marmalade. You can check out their selection and place your order for takeout or delivery here.
& Sons $ $ $ $ Wine Bar  in  Prospect Lefferts Gardens $$$$ 447 Rogers Ave
Putting together a wine and charcuterie combination that’s not from & Sons Buttery is like listening to Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” on low volume - it’s still enjoyable, but you know it could’ve been better. To avoid that feeling, order from this ham bar in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. 99% of everything here is American-produced, and you can expect everything from hunks of humboldt fog and CSA boxes from Lancaster Farms to mortadella with Sicilian pistachios. Order your groceries here.
Fort Defiance $ $ $ $ American  in  Brooklyn ,  Red Hook $$$$ 365 Van Brunt St.
Over the last few months, Fort Defiance has transitioned into a grocery and general store, selling pantry goods, produce, rotisserie chicken, and booze. You can also stop by their ordering window for cocktails and prepared snacks from Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 7pm, or place your pick-up order ahead of time on their website here.
Clay $ $ $ $ American ,  Pasta  in  Harlem $$$$ 553 Manhattan Ave
If you’re looking for curated picnic supplies in Harlem, Clay is delivering fancy cheese, nuts, olives, bread and butter, and charcuterie from 3:30pm to 8:30pm every day. They also have a full menu of their delicious pastas and American entrees. You can check out all of the options and place your order here.
Sariling Atin $ $ $ $ Filipino  in  Elmhurst $$$$ 89-12 Queens Blvd
Saraling Atin is a Filipino grocery store in Elmhurst with a cafeteria-style counter in the back serving simmering mung bean stews, pancit noodles, and crispy lechon kawali. In addition to hot food, they have tons of excellent Filipino canned goods and snacks like taro leaves in coconut cream, Ding Dongs, and Squidees. And if you want something prepared - get a combo meal, which costs between $5-11 and comes with your choice of one-to-three entrees plus a side of rice or noodles.
Insa $ $ $ $ Korean ,  BBQ  in  Gowanus $$$$ 328 Douglass St
Nights at Insa typically follow a progression like this: cocktails, delicious Korean food, soju, karaoke, soju. And now that this Gowanus spot is offering delivery, you can follow the same pattern at home. Start with a large format cocktail, like one with gochugaru-infused rum, throw some of their frozen dumplings in the steamer or a ribeye on the stove, and get Weird Al queued up for virtual karaoke.
Sol Sips $$$$ 203 Wilson Ave
This vegan spot in Bushwick is offering meal kits that include breakfast, lunch, and dinner for one, two, or three days. The kits are all offered on a sliding payment scale based on whatever you can afford. They come with dishes like plantain tamales stuffed with cheesy collard greens for lunch, and coconut curry stew with dumplings and wild rice for dinner. Place your order directly through their website, and they’ll have a staff member call you to specify your selections and set up your delivery schedule.
Hamido Seafood $ $ $ $ Seafood ,  Egyptian  in  Astoria $$$$ 33-08 Ditmars Boulevard
If you want to cook some high-quality fish at home, know that this Egyptian restaurant on in Astoria sells fresh seafood by the pound. They have outdoor dining as well as prepared food for takeout and delivery, but you can also stop by their spot on Ditmars Boulevard and point to whatever type of fish you like. The octopus is particularly great.
Oxalis $ $ $ $ American ,  Experimental  in  Prospect Heights $$$$ 791 Washington Ave
Oxalis’ online store has everything you’d expect from a high-end farmer’s market, with tomatoes, strawberries, and house-cured bacon available for pickup or delivery from. 3pm to 6pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And in case you don’t feel like cooking, this Prospect Heights spot also offers outdoor dining and grab-and-go breakfast burritos, lunch, and dinner on weekends. Find more details here.
Peter Luger Steak House $ $ $ $ Steaks  in  Williamsburg $$$$ 178 Broadway
For the first time in its 133 year history, the original Peter Luger is offering takeout and delivery. Not only can you order their extra thick lamb chops or porterhouse for two fully prepared, but you can get them raw with a bottle of Luger’s steak sauce as well. Place an order through links on their website daily.
Peter Luger Of Long Island $$$$ 255 Northern Blvd
Like the Williamsburg original, Peter Luger’s location in Great Neck is offering takeout and delivery. Order any of their dry-aged steaks and a bottle of steak sauce every day by calling (516) 487-8800 or heading to their website here.
Jeffrey’s Grocery $ $ $ $ American ,  Sandwiches ,  Raw Bar  in  West Village $$$$ 172 Waverly Pl.
If you’d like a little guidance on cooking (or you want to turn it into an activity with your kids), this West Village American spot has meal kits for takeout or delivery ranging from a lobster roll meal for four, Greek salad kits, and an oyster feast with 25 oysters and all the sauces you need. Alternatively, Jefferey’s Grocery is selling things like labneh, granola, and whitefish salad. Find it all here.
Mekelburg’s $ $ $ $ American ,  Bar Food ,  Sandwiches  in  Brooklyn ,  Williamsburg $$$$ 325 Kent Ave
Not only is Mekelburg’s delivering its usual menu of fantastic sandwiches and small plates, but both the Williamsburg and Clinton Hill locations are offering the more than 4000 items in their high-end grocery stores for delivery as well. So with your wagyu roast beef sandwich and caviar-topped baked potato, you can also get things like espresso beans, truffle hot sauce, chocolate babka, and pet food.
Mo’s Original $$$$ 453 Rogers Ave
This Japanese-Caribbean spot in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is offering ready-to-assemble ramen kits with ingredients like miso curry broth, noodles, smoked chicken, and various toppings for pickup every day from 3pm to 9pm. You can also try making ramen from scratch with groceries from their pantry, like Sun Noodles, chicken stock, and a dry dashi kit. Oh, also important: you can order lots of cocktails and booze to go. Find all the details here.
Bien Cuit $$$$ 120 Smith St
The chances are fairly high that you’ve baked or considered baking bread in the not-so-distant-past, and you’re certainly not alone. But if you want to set yourself apart, you’re going to need the best ingredients. Fortunately, Bien Cuit is offering them for takeout and delivery (as well as shipping nationally). Along with their sourdough starter, wheat flour, and instant yeast, this Carroll Gardens bakery is also serving a bunch of things you can put on the bread once it’s done, like cured meats or duck rillettes.
Atoboy $ $ $ $ Korean  in  Flatiron $$$$ 43 E 28th St
Atoboy’s spicy peanut butter and sweet and spicy sauces are reason enough to order delivery from this Korean spot in Flatiron, but there’s also a large format meal that will feed two people. It costs $88 and comes with rice, kimchi, anchovies and bugak, tuna and purslane salad, zucchini and doenjang chickpeas, salmon in a red curry, pork ribs, and braised beef cheek with jjajang sauce. Place your order here between Monday and Saturday from 5pm to 9:15pm.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns $ $ $ $ American  in  Westchester $$$$ 630 Bedford Rd.
Blue Hill has announced a ton of changes recently - and another one is that they’re offering farm boxes for pick up at their Stone Barns and Manhattan locations. A big part of what makes Blue Hill such a special restaurant is the fact that its ingredients seem straight off of a Michael Pollan vision board. Now you can enjoy those ingredients - packs of vegetables, grass-fed beef, or fresh seafood - in your kitchen. Whether or not you pull off the 40 course situation that Blue Hill is famous for - well that’s on you.
Imani Caribbean Kitchen & Bar $$$$ 271 Adelphi St
Almost everything on the menu here - including meal combinations like curry goat with rice and a salad, or codfish fritters, mac and cheese, and kale salad - is $15 or less. We say almost because this Fort Greene Caribbean spot also offers catering options that will feed ten people. The next time you’re planning a backyard meet up with some people in your social pad, order a tray of spicy spare ribs and 25 fish tacos from Imani’s website.
Miznon $ $ $ $ Middle Eastern  in  Chelsea $$$$ 435 West 15th Street
Miznon’s pitas are plenty of food for one meal, but we tend to leave this Israeli Chelsea spot wishing we had gotten another to-go, just for the sauces and spices inside. Now the ordering decision is easy. Get a pita for delivery, like one with roasted cauliflower or crispy ribeye, and some za’atar, dry freekah, dry chickpeas, and tahini paste.
Saraghina $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Italian  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 435 Halsey St
Saraghina is serving coffee from Irving Farm, Joe, La Colombe, and Partners, as well as multiple types of organic flour, cheese, dry pastas, and fresh bread. In other words, whatever you’re running low on at the moment, there’s a good chance you’ll find it in the online shop of this Italian spot in Bed-Stuy. Place an order any day for pickup or delivery, which is offered every day from 8am to 8pm.
Bread And Salt $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Italian  in  Jersey City ,  New Jersey $$$$ 435 Palisade Ave
If all Bread & Salt were only offering bread, we’d still go out of our way to get it. But this Jersey City pizza spot is also serving grocery items like its fantastic tomato sauce, fresh ricotta, dry beans, and four types of olive oil. Bread & Salt is offering next-day or two-day delivery as well as pick-up on Thursdays. Place your order before Wednesday at noon online here. They add new grocery items every week, so you can keep coming back for more.
Yaso Tangbao $ $ $ $ Chinese  in  Brooklyn ,  Sunset Park $$$$ 253 36th St
Yaso Tangbao in Industry City is selling all sorts of frozen family meals with rice, noodles, dumplings, and various proteins like pork meatballs and curry beef shank. And if you still have space in your freezer, we suggest you get some frozen baos or a 10lb frozen vegetable box. Actually, throw away everything that’s currently in your freezer, and fill that space with 100 frozen spicy soup dumplings. At present, this is simply the right thing to do. Place your order online here.
Cocoron $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  Nolita $$$$ 37 Kenmare St.
This fantastic Japanese spot in Nolita is offering ready-to-heat soups, ingredients for DIY soba and ramen, and even a shabu shabu set with pork and wagyu from their sister spot, Shabushabu Macoron. Place your order here.
Glou $ $ $ $ French ,  Wine Bar  in  Prospect Lefferts Gardens $$$$ 406 Rogers Ave
Glou is still a great place to get a glass of Chilean viognier or liter-bottle of Czech gruner veltliner, but now this Prospect Lefferts Gardens wine bar is also a good option for groceries like Nutella or pancake mix, snacks like chicken liver pate or bacon onion jam, and prepared sandwiches. It’s all available to-go from noon to 7pm daily here.
Russ & Daughters At The Jewish Museum $$$$ 1109 5th Ave
No kitchen is ever complete without a dozen bagels, lox, and schmear - and Russ & Daughters can ship you supplies so you can make that pantry dream come true. Both LES and Navy Yard locations of Russ & Daughters are open for carryout, and their Jewish Museum store is on online as well. They also ship nationwide, in case your cousin in Colorado currently has a void that can only be filled with a good bagel.
Cafe On Ralph $$$$ 86 Ralph Ave
You could order avocado toast or fruit salad with agave from this all-day cafe in Bed-Stuy, or you could get the ingredients and make them yourself. They’re offering things like avocados, orange blossom agave, and boxes of fruits, dry goods, and vegetables for takeout and delivery daily from 10am to 5pm every day.
Bessou $$$$ 5 Bleecker St
Bessou understands that good comfort food isn’t the easiest to make, and does a lot of the prep work for you. For example, they season, marinate, and fry karaage chicken, so when the meal kit is delivered to you, you just need to bake or fry it one more time before it’s ready. This Noho Japanese spot also marinates ready-to-cook hangar steak and whole chickens, batters and breads tonkotsu cutlets, and offers shabu shabu kits with all of the ingredients portioned out. You’ll be prompted to specify your pick up time when you order (anytime between noon and 6pm).
Cote $ $ $ $ Korean  in  Flatiron $$$$ 16 W 22nd St
If you have access to a grill or a trusty cast iron skillet (or even if you don’t), get a steak care package from Cote. You can check out their menu and place your order for delivery or takeout here. If you want something that’s already cooked, know that Cote is also offering a full menu of Korean dishes for takeout and delivery.
Bourke Street Bakery $ $ $ $ Cafe/Bakery  in  Nomad $$$$ 15 E 28th St
In addition to their loaves of bread and various pastries (that are some of the finest things ever birthed from an oven), Bourke Street Bakery is also selling $50 boxes with fruit, vegetables, bread, and other baked goods. They deliver to all five boroughs, and you can find all the details here.
Park Terrace Deli $$$$ 510 W 218th St
If you live near Inwood, and you’re running low on paper towels, almond milk, and chicken fingers, the answer is Park Terrace Deli. They also have some other basic groceries like ice cream, eggs, and toothpaste, as well as a huge selection of sandwiches and snacks that you can eat while you try to learn how to make your own sandwiches by watching YouTube tutorials.
Hearth $ $ $ $ Italian  in  East Village $$$$ 403 E. 12th St.
In addition to offering takeout, delivery, and outdoor dining, Hearth in the East Village is selling marinades, DIY pasta kits, ready-to-bake cookie day, and pantry staples. You can look through their whole inventory and place your order here.
Sous Vide Kitchen $$$$ 119 E 23rd St

They also have plenty of sauces, spreads, fresh produce, and meal kits for up to four people. This place is open for pickup and delivery weekdays from 10am to 7pm, and you can either call 646-895-9232 or email [email protected] to place your order.

And, since they’re frozen, you should probably just stock up and consider buying yourself another freezer. Fill out your request form here. There’s no delivery fee if you’re ordering in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
Cremini’s $ $ $ $ Italian  in  Brooklyn ,  Carroll Gardens $$$$ 521 Court St
Along with its regular menu of fried Italian snacks and filling entrees, Cremini’s is currently offering a bunch of different food and drink combinations that’ll cover you for multiple meals. They range from cheese and charcuterie plates, to huge spreads of fully prepared dishes, like fettuccine with bechamel, bacon cheeseburgers with fries, and Italian donuts filled with custard. Many of the specials include bottles of wine, so make sure to add a side of fried Ascolana olives filled with minced meats, which are some of our favorite drinking snacks around.
Ends Meat $ $ $ $ American ,  BBQ  in  Brooklyn ,  Sunset Park $$$$ 254 36th St
There has never been a better time to build beautiful sandwiches. If you live in Manhattan or Brooklyn and want high-quality slab bacon or beef tenderloin delivered to your apartment, you can order from either Ends Meat location (call 929-306-6014 for Manhattan, and 718-801-8895 for Brooklyn). The Fly, a wine bar/restaurant in Clinton Hill from the same people behind Hart’s, is also doing an online shop with pickup on Tuesdays starting at 5pm. Take a look at the website to see the selection. Whatever you go with, we strongly suggest you get a whole, ready-to-roast chicken so that you can, at some point, close your eyes and pretend you’re eating the delicious chicken they serve at The Fly.
La Ñapa $$$$ 656 Nostrand Ave
La Napa is typically a tapas restaurant in Crown Heights - but now they’re pretty much a full-on grocery store. They’re selling everything from kale, garlic, and celery to eggs, manchego, and jamon serrano, and you browse their pick-up selection here.

Junzi Kitchen (with three locations in Greenwich Village, Midtown, and Morningside Heights) is also offering family-style meals that come with your choice of things like shallot rice, tofu, lion’s head meatballs, and pickled red cabbage. They’ll feed anywhere between three and ten people - and you can also get some chili oil and chips to supplement. Order directly from their website here. Also, if you’re looking to have a picnic, Junzi has ready-made picnic meals for groups of two or four.
Samwon Garden $ $ $ $ Korean  in  Midtown $$$$ 37 W 32nd St
Samwon Garden in Koreatown is offering something called a “Care Package” for delivery. It consists of prime short rib, pork belly, several stews, and a bunch of sides, it costs $179, and it will most likely make your week. But if you don’t want to spend that much, this Korean barbecue spot also has a huge a la carte menu (and plenty of soju). Find all the details and place your order here.
Sticky's Finger Joint $$$$ 21 Maiden Ln
Sticky’s has a bunch of locations in lower Manhattan (and one in Brooklyn), and they specialize in chicken fingers. If you just pictured a basket of chicken fingers in front of you, congratulations, you passed the test. Order online, and get the four-person family meal if you’d like a fridge full of chicken.
Colonia Verde $ $ $ $ Latin  in  Brooklyn ,  Fort Greene $$$$ 219 Dekalb Ave.
Over in Fort Greene, Colonia Verde has a general store section of their to-go menu featuring a DIY tuna tostada kit, grilling supplies, mole, produce from upstate New York, and more. Check out their website to see the wide-ranging selection.
Clinton Hall $ $ $ $ Financial District $$$$ 90 Washington St
While they’re not the kind of groceries you can eat, board games are very useful to have on-hand right now. Clinton Hall understands that, which is why their FiDi and Herald Square locations are offering Jenga, Sorry, Operation, and a bunch of other games for delivery, along with growlers of beer, bottles of liquor, and very good bar food.

The 15 Hottest New Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina
Today, Eater returns to Charlotte, North Carolina, to focus on 15 new bars and restaurants that have been garnering some serious buzz. Once again, writer and photographer Rémy Thurston has kindly offered his picks for the hottest openings of the past 12 months.
Among his recommendations are a members-only speakeasy (Dot Dot Dot), a soul food go-to known for its fried chicken (Haberdish), a So-Cal-inspired taco stand with plenty of margaritas (SouthBound), and a steakhouse that has quickly become a meat lover’s paradise (The Porter’s House).
Without further ado, and in geographic order, the Eater Heatmap to Charlotte:
Tim and Melanie Groody helped pioneer Charlotte’s farm-to-table movement with their first restaurant, Fork, and now they’re bringing their fresh, local flavors to Asian cuisine with Ramen Soul just up I-77 in Mooresville. Since it opened in June, the Southern-inspired ramen spot has been packed with ramen-loving locals.
The marriage of beer and coffee continues to blow up with Lindsey Pittman’s new coffee venture, Trade and Lore, which shares a space with newly opened Salud Cerveceria. Her inventive offerings pair well with Salud owner Jason Glunt’s adventurous local and international beer flavors — if possible, attend his annual sour beer festival in December. Don’t sleep on the homemade Fud at Salud or the waffle-wiches either.
Famous for its pressure-fried chicken but beloved for its sides — the creamed kale grits are a frequent order — the mill-town restaurant brought its own version of the dimly lit, cozy Edison-bulb style to NoDa this year. Restaurateur-owner Jeff Tonidandel, known for Crepe Cellar and Growlers Pourhouse, also hired famed local bartender Colleen Hughes, who upped the Charlotte cocktail scene with ice-cube flowers in the Haberdish cocktails.
For those wanting high-end barista-crafted coffee beverages without getting out of the car, owner Ian Kolb opened CupLux off of Freedom Drive. Serving commuters and locals alike, this spot provides everyone with cappuccino and latte art on their way to work. And make sure to ask your server to lightly warm the baked goods — it makes a difference.
This three-level destination opened in July. The ground floor is a bustling restaurant where one can find dishes inspired by the chef’s extensive travels — like Southern pad Thai with beer noodles. The Loft is a speakeasy-style bar with revolving live music performers, and the soon-to-open Cellar has a private wine room and 20 seats for private dining along with a tasting menu.
The lounge bar (known as the K Lounge to those in the know) at the Ritz-Carlton got a revamp in January and is now an attraction all on its own. It serves small plates with global inspirations, like the Peruvian crispy pork belly or the green curry baba ganoush, and offers a bar program godfathered by Bob Peters, who famously runs the modern lounge the Punch Room on the 15th floor. It’s the perfect place for guests to forget they’re waiting for someone.
Charlotte’s newest brewery (making the total 18 inside city limits) opened to fanfare in Plaza Midwood because of its accessibility to locals and restorative beers. The menu is full of wild ferments, hoppy IPAs, and barrel-aged beauties, which can all be enjoyed on a large patio with rotating food trucks stopping in. Its beers are a neighborhood welcome in a glass.
After moving Passion8 to Elizabeth in 2014, chef Luca Annunziata and his wife, Jessica, decided to revamp the concept and return to their Italian roots. Their modern takes on Italian dishes, like the diver scallops with squid ink gnocchi, are exactly what a hip nonna would make after a long day. Try the rabbit ragu for a lighter version of a traditional meat sauce.
In January, Jaffer Kovic hoped to open a wine bar in Dilworth without any stuffiness. The Dilworth Tasting Room offers a bright, open space with plenty of seating for locals to sit with a glass of wine that they may not have heard of before. The selection, available both by the glass and in retail bottles, is on the smaller side to give customers a chance to try a more targeted variety. Be sure to swirl a glass of red among the leaves on the lush patio.
Previously known for his Roots food truck, chef Craig Barbour took his extensive catering business and added a brick-and-mortar cafe to the mix. Decorated with plenty of natural wood and stocked with local goods, this hole-in-the-wall off South Boulevard in Dilworth offers craft coffees, a root-vegetable-laden brunch, casual lunch and dinner options, as well as wine and grab-and-go foods for the busier clientele.
Tacos and margaritas may never go out of style, especially when So-Cal beach vibes radiate through this new spot off of South Boulevard. It’s backed by Jimmie Johnson, and guests can expect stock-car-fast service and icy beverages to get them through the weekend. Load up on the chipotle cream from the salsa bar in the back.
Coffee bar, taphouse, culinary cafe, fermentation lab — it may sound like four different establishments, but Suffolk Punch (the food side) and Hyde Brewing (the drink side) make the most of one roof by serving everything from refreshing cachaça cocktails and IPAs to tuna poke and za’atar-roasted squash. Dan Hyde runs the brewery, while notable caffeine queen Lindsey Pittman helms the coffee program.
Dot Dot Dot is an upscale Prohibition-style cocktail lounge only open to members, who can purchase a $10 membership on its site. Those in the know can find it in the back lot of the Park Road Shopping Center near the loading docks. The newly formed team of Stefan Huebner, formerly of Heist, and Conrad Hunter, owner of Foxcroft Wine Co., bring style and a curated bar menu of eccentric cocktails, like the truffled New York sour, to Charlotte’s next hot neighborhood.
The Indigo Road restaurant group has a solid reputation in Charleston, but it’s been spreading the gospel of service done well across the Southeast in recent years. Oak Steakhouse in SouthPark extends yet another branch of that hospitality, offering customers prime certified Angus beef, served in a comfortable yet modern setting with sides to match.
Since opening in February, the Porter’s House has been attracting meat lovers to Waverly. Owners Kim and Jon Dressler (of Dressler’s and Dogwood Southern Table) branded it as “a modern chop house for the new South,” but the breadth of menu — care to order the duck-fat-fried fingerlings with pickled peppers? — suggests that it’s much more than that.
