something I’ve been thinking abt is how many people think Makoto is immune to despair. I don’t think he is. I think becoming the ultimate Hope was BECAUSE he felt despair. He wouldn’t have fully reached that point without Junko. Makoto becoming such a beacon was his last attempt to avoid completely falling and it wasn’t because he didn’t feel despair, it was because he was too damn stubborn to allow everything to go to waste and he refused to sacrifice his beliefs for someone else’s. His inner monologue tells me he DID experience the same new low the other suvivors did in the final trial, but at the point where he had the choice to give up and die, he looked at the others and he looked at Junko and he couldn’t allow it to happen, not out of self preservation, but because the idea that Junko would have control over their lives made him FURIOUS. and that utter refusal to die kicked in, wether luck or otherwise, and he made the concious effort for one last push while something in him was breaking. He had to be broken in order for the Ultimate Hope to come through so aggressively, bc it could only exist in the face of the Ultimate Despair. He snapped the same way she did, but in the other direction. In what could have been his final moments he chose to embody everything Junko wasn’t, and every single optimistic and luck fueled ideal in him suddenly charged forward and pushed him. It was a combination of the final straw and a choice. Makoto isn’t immune to feeling despair, he’s just too stubborn to fall into it of his own volition. I think that’s why I like that scene in DR3 so much. People were SO SHOCKED Makoto actually fell for the tape, that he actually became despair for a moment. I saw people getting mad or disappointed, saying it was pathetic and Makoto seemed to fall from some sort of pedestal for them. Honestly part of me wonders if that sort of mentality, which clearly people had in universe, affected Makoto a bit. Like he started to see himself as less of a person, subconsciously. Prompting him to take more risks, less self preservation, act way more bold. It seems he has to be reminded a lot not to put himself in danger by his friends, to not do something too reckless. All over the place I would see in regards to that scene either this frivolous ‘oh this was just angst drama with no meaning behind it’ or ‘he can do better than that. he’s so weak’ or ‘come on, there’s no way he’d fall into despair, he’s the Ultimate Hope!’ This kind of mentality, which was kind of ironic considering Ryota was there the entire time saying the same thing and treating Makoto the same way. Like Makoto was superhuman. Like Makoto didn’t feel despair the same way ‘normal people’ did. In a way that was also how Munakata saw Makoto. Makoto stopped being a PERSON to the world when he became Ultimate Hope, he became a concept, a belief system, much the same way Junko ascended beyond herself. But the difference is that treating Makoto that way is the opposite of the reason Makoto became such a representative for hope. He wasn’t doing something no one else could. He was doing something everyone had the chance to, he just… was a little more optimistic, a little more stubborn, a little more ‘gung-ho’ about things. He just took the lead where no one else did, where no one else knew they even COULD in the face of Junko’s unstoppable force. She had overcome the biggest threats and obstacles in the world, what could one person do? And the answer Makoto found was, anything. Everything. It doesn’t all rest on Makoto, he’s just the one that was inspired to try to do what seemed like the impossible. But as evidenced by the change in his friends after that trial, it’s clearly not something only Makoto is capable of. The others pulled out of despair thanks to Makoto, but it was their choice to do so.
“But… this world is so huge, and we’re so small. What can we do…? No, we can probably do anything. Yeah! We can do anything!”

I’ve never been so obsessed with a character so bad that I literally can’t do anything else I’m like the squidward meme watching SpongeBob frolic outside the window stretching a hand out to all the pretty paintings and animations and comics I see in my head but being unable to feel any motivation for it . If only i could use the energy spent to create 20 kon doodles to sit down and concentrate on a single finished full piece I used to be able to make like 5 page comics what happened to me

literati au where liz abandoned jess at luke’s dinner at the age of 10 because she couldn’t deal with this kid anymore, so luke took him in because honestly what else would he do? but also. lorelai loves jess so much because she’s saw him grown from this really 10 years old angry kid to this annoying teenager who asks her “how many coffee you had today, lorelai?” and she’d be like “not enough, jessie” and just. jess is always welcome at the gilmore’s household because at this point he is family and when liz danes comes back and saying she’s sorry and she wants to do right by him, lorelai literally yells at her that maybe, just maybe, she shouldn’t have left the kid outside of luke’s in the middle of the winter at 4am in the morning.

Setting aside the theory that Eileen herself was going mad for a second:
We know what blood-drunk hunters look like and how they act…we see Gascoigne and Henryk rage like beasts…that was at least made to be a central point. It has a distinct flavor to it, like men giving into their inner animal.
And so the question endlessly plagues my mind…why was Eileen’s last-seen prey someone like Bloody Crow, who showed no signs of madness, who fought with careful precision, and held his ground in such a specific location. WHY?
Why would she compromise her entire mission and her values to hunt a sane hunter if it wasn’t personal? Again, this is assuming she wasn’t giving into her own bloodlust, because while I adore that theory, I do think there is something to be said about how we are very clearly introduced to the concept of blood-madness within the Gascoigne story. I do think Eileen was at least meant to appear as their intended mercy-killer.
It’s presented as a surface level theme, and so I would say it’s relatively safe to assume Henryk was another drunk. If he was the “granddad” to that family, then he did lose them all in one night, and I wouldn’t blame him for losing his head, or Eileen for hunting him.
I’m repeating myself yes, but I can’t help but obsess over the detail that Bloody Crow seems…sane? And Eileen still hunts him? Obviously the connection with their garb and the Vileblood implications with Crow just make it even worse. I am clawing at threads here, begging for a clear answer from a game that has none, but it just draws me in every time. This is such an underrated part of Bloodborne’s story, in my opinion. The mystery is too enticing!

it sucks when you’re “not alt enough” for other alternative people to find you attractive but you’re also “too alt” for non-alternative people to find you attractive lmaoooo

Let me tell ya, being named Maggie, a name I almost never hear in the wild and so have almost zero defenses against reacting every time I hear it, is quite challenging in the Gaiman-verse corner of fandom right now :P

Sometimes I think about how my parents are fine with watching things with portrayals of drug users, smokers, and murderers in them (not trying to equate substance use to murder, to be clear); but the second a male character even sounds mildly effeminate, they shut off the TV??? Because it’s a bad influence??!!?!
Like, my dudes…. According to your religion all of those people are from the world; all of them are sinning, and “voluntary” sin is a symptom of hereditary sin. According to your belief system, certain people are predisposed to certain types of sin, including homosexuality. Theoretically, you should react to us as you would any other sinner; but you don’t. Why are we so offensive to you that you would rather watch some poor astronaut die screaming and hemorrhaging on a dinner table than view a queer-coded character for more than twenty seconds??
