hii it's been awhile since i've given any updates about what's going on with me but!!! i think we're moving back to oregon at some point. and i'm gonna make grad school happen. i'm so yhappy
#i'm going to oregon sometime this quarter but it's gonna break my heart because i have to leave again#idk the col is so much higher there than here. you can buy a whole three bedroom house for $200k here#a 3 bed in oregon is at least twice that#and rent is insane. $1100 for a beautiful 3 bed here. or twice that for something less nice in oregon#well. not HERE here jesus the suburbs are expensive. but in central pa where we're thinking of moving#which is like.... the best place to retire in the country? what's with that. low col probably LOL#and lately i've been feeling so..... lost? the ego death i went through in 2023 was incredible#and like. do i NEED to go to grad school to get a well-paying job in my field? no i have almost 7 yoe#but i'm missing feeling good at something. and the networking. and the portfolio work i can do. so it wouldn't be about employablility#though that helps. idk i'm gonna try to get my undergrad loans paid off as much as i can (only 30k left on the ones in my name 🫠) this year#while working on freelance projects and all that. it just feels good having a direction that doesn't feel completely hopeless#because it's been so bleak lately. like. got laid off from an agency i poured my soul into (not doing that again unless it's my own)#experienced something deeply personal and destabilizing i don't feel comfortable sharing#moved across the country while i didn't have a job and was processing that trauma to a place where i know no one#i got so lonely and so alone that i thought i would die. i didn't really have anyone to turn to while i did the work of reliving#started drinking a lot to cope bc i didn't have a medical card. was truly miserable. got a medical card. wasn't miserable anymore#and now i'm working and less anxious and feeling supported and stable in my relationship. and i feel myself coming back to myself.#it's been so hard but i'm so glad to be seeing the end of it. and to see good things and happy things in that

Genre: Fantasy (low fantasy, magic and second world, but only humans) Summary: After graduating from the country's most prestigious magical academy with no real interest in signing up for a tour of "border patrol", Cateryn drags her best friend and duel partner Jigar to tour the country with her -- hoping that maybe her restlessness will finally settle. She has no home to return to, and no idea of what a future is supposed to look like. When one year threatens to become two, they finally stumble upon three people whose struggles resonate with Cateryn's: Raif, who lost their father, their wife, and their future to one torrential storm and decided to leave home to save their mother the trouble of an heir who couldn't uphold the family name; Kira, a seer whose powers resulted in xir becoming a political prisoner when xir home was invaded; and Arris, Kira's husband who was helpless to save his employer and suffered at the hands of the occupying force before he could get himself and his spouse to freedom.
For the first time in a long time, Cateryn finds herself wanting to stay in one place and to open up to the people around her, even though Jigar thinks they should keep moving on. Because the two of them are destined for great things, he likes to say, but she knows what is best, and he's content to stay with her. Except for the past has a way of catching up with everyone, and they all find themselves dragged into political responsibilities as the neighboring country is getting agitated with an increasing number of border disputes, and rumors of something more than the usual bandits roaming the south.
And when Cateryn's past involvements with her father's spirit magic come back to haunt her, she has to decide if she wants to accept that part of her, or reject it and everything that comes with it before its too late. Etc: writing tag || pin board

Raif didn’t even bother trying not to look miserable. If their mother wanted to make a spectacle out of their humiliation, then she’d have to do it with a sulking heir.
“Which part of this is the worst?” Cateryn asks, startling them out of their reverie.
“Pardon?” they ask in return, straightening their posture just a bit now that they’re the center of someone’s attention.
She gestures to the ballroom. “It’s the taffeta, personally. I am sweating like it isn’t the dead of winter in the north, and everyone can hear me from a mile away.” She says it low, conspiratorially, and they can’t help but laugh. “Ah, there it is.”
“The key to the taffeta’s undoing?” they whisper back, reaching out to ruffle her skirt. It whish whish whishes loudly beneath their touch.
“No, your smile.”
They snort into their wine glass. “Please, Cateryn, you don’t need to skulk about with me because you feel sorry for me.” It’s hard to keep the bitterness from their voice as they mirror her gesture towards the room. “My mother isn’t trying to humiliate you.”
They don’t mention how they noticed the way Aiden had been doting on her all evening despite this being a party for him.
“Is it wrong of me to want to keep you company?” she asks innocently. “You know, better yet, want to get out of here?”
Raif pauses with the wine glass against their lips. Leave the party early? Without saying hello, yes, I’m well thank you, yes I miss Linna and my father terribly but I’m sure Aiden will do a splendid job where I’ve failed as a child, but at least I don’t have to be my mother’s son anymore — Aiden can do that, to every one of Uyen’s friends?
The thought sends a frisson of rebellious delight through them, and they pass their half-finished glass to a nearby server. “More than anything,” they say, and Cateryn answers with a grin.
She takes their hand — in front of their mother, the family gods, and everyone — and tugs them towards the exit on the far side of the ballroom.
Uyen doesn’t call after them, but Raif can feel her disdain follow them into the hall.

I don’t know how much I can say before risking being fakeclaimed or something,,, uh this is gonna get personal but realistically speaking I expect nothing and nobody out of this so read as you will if you got nothing to do. I will most likely forget about this is an hour or so anyway.
So what have I done whole I was gone..
Nothing. Absolutely, literally, down-to-my-core nothing. I don’t mean it too literally, but my days have been recurring enough for me to no longer remember that much about my days and how they are spent. I do remember who I am on most days though.
Uh. I don’t know if it’s pure laziness or if I’m currently suffering a big burnout. I haven’t really played anything or talked to anyone and ironically enough I’ve lost sleep as well. Of course (if I said this before I apologize) I’m still keeping up with GGST and now I’m back on Skullgirls.. somewhat. As for Genshin I had to stop playing because of my storage and disinterest, unfortunately. However, I still love the characters I got with all of my heart and believe they clutched when they could.
My social battery’s just gotten so low and it’s like everything annoys me (not y’all though, I think the people I last saw on here are all wonderful), as if I have nothing and don’t like having anything either. I’ve put a lot of thought on this and how it’s ended for me - as I am simply a teenager in the countryside who “knows nothing” and also a big “know-it-all” but that aside, I’ve decided I won’t be trying to improve very much at all as that only puts a bigger risk of a worst relapse than what I am in now. I’ve made peace and accepted my situation for what it is, and I know who’s at fault, including myself.
I will not risk therapy either since my purchases are supervised and I can’t drive yet, followed by living in a very.. right-wing retirement area. It isn’t my best option nor decision, but until my bs catches up with me or I somehow survive, it might as well be the safest. That being said, I can’t confirm nor deny anything, but if someone does read this, please do not slap labels on me or assume a disorder.
I have sunken from a straight-a’s kid to a “if i pass we good” teenager, which could very well be just because of my mental development but it’s working.. I think. I don’t know, educational success isn’t giving me anything considering the state of the country, and I honestly do not think it will. Some may call it upsetting or flame me for it, but that is one of the outcomes I’ve long since accepted.
Before someone reaches out, I’m not that much of a good person. It’s nothing personal, like I said before you all seem like lovely people - I’ve just been carved (and placed by myself) into a more nihilistic mindset. I’ve tried hard but to say I am now would be a lie because as mentioned - nothing’s happened.
So, what will you do mr fatesealer 505 ???
Well, I’m gonna have to grow up. This summer, I was planning on getting a permit since everyone has their license (we’re just sophomores calm down like..) and hopefully a tiny job to keep my hands busy. If I do, this means I get to leave school early. Hip hip hooray.
What does this mean for my uploads?
I’m not sure. I’m trying to relearn digital art the best I can and luckily it seems I haven’t lost my spark in its entirety just yet. Do not assume my life-altering failures will postpone my mediocre hobby.
Despite my utter lack of every fucking thing (bless those who have stayed with me) I would like to try socializing just a teeny bit more just online. Not real-world, there are creeps my age (thank you Texas, I could not ask for better..)
Unless someone spawns and wants to talk or have me expand on my totally untubular experience, you’re free to go ahead.
I will not be changing my avatar. The silly is love and life. And so are all of you for what you have given even if I have never spoken.

Pensora Stories
The story takes place in a country called Pensora. The country lies between the North American continent and Japan and is large enough to enjoy diverse climates and seasons.
Though flourishing with vegetation and food abundance, the population is quite low as immigration is tightly controlled.
Though democracy had its short reign, the country is ruled by a Royal Family whose priority is to preserve traditions which have always brought to Pensora its peaceful and charming qualities.
We shall follow a family who, unknowingly has its family roots cast in a deep shadow. A secret which, if revealed, could change the country entirely…

Retiring in Treviso - tranquillity and Italian lifestyle just around the corner from Venice

Treviso is undoubtedly a hidden gem of the northeastern Italian region - Veneto. The city, also known as a little Venice due to its charming Buranelli Canals, stayed in the shadow of its world-famous neighbour for years. However, in the last 20 years, the capital of the Marca Trevigiana, as the locals often call the province, moved up from the 43rd to the 8th position on the list of the best Italian cities to live in by the national journal Il Sole 24ore. Meanwhile, Treviso has been discovered by tourists and expats looking for a spot where to enjoy a quiet glass of wine while gazing over one of the canals crossing through the historical centre. Therefore, when choosing the city as my new home, I was enchanted by its beauty but also attracted by its perfect location - it is positioned half an hour by train from Venice, in proximity to the breathtaking landscapes of the Italian Alps and a short car ride from one of the longest sandy coasts in North Italy.
Pros and Cons of living in Treviso.
Treviso has a lot of pros for someone looking for a place to enjoy a good life, cherish quality food and take advantage of good weather. Still, despite its charm, it can seem too small or provincial for someone looking to settle in a place with a cosmopolitan city vibe. The historical centre inside the city walls can be seen on foot in about a couple of hours. At the same time, its size can be considered an advantage. The city of around 85000 inhabitants has been regularly included in the top 10 on many lists of Italy’s safest places to live. The low level of crime makes it a perfect place for families and those looking to retire in a calm and peaceful environment. 
Despite being small, Treviso is very well connected, with its own international airport and a large Venetian airport just half an hour away. Although Veneto is not the cheapest region of Italy, Treviso, being so close to Venice, makes it a bit more economical, free of tourist traps and overpriced coffee bars. Nowadays, when being environmentally conscious is a must, to its advantage, Treviso is known for its highly efficient waste management company - Contarina. It famously recycles twice the European average and produces five times less waste. Furthermore, northern Italy offers one of the best healthcare systems globally. The country also has the second-highest life expectancy at birth in Europe.
The best area in Treviso where to live.
For those with a substantial budget, the city’s historical centre makes a perfect location where to retire. The area near the Duomo, with classical architecture and lovely villas overlooking the canal surrounding the centre, small coffee shops and trendy bars, create a tranquil but never dull environment. However, if you are on a tighter budget, you should look for a place outside the city walls, which does not mean worse quality. The residential area of San Lazzaro, located just outside of the city centre, offers good services and an excellent selection of new constructions and buildings to be restored, which gives an opportunity to those who want to create their own space. San Zeno, Fiera or Sant’Antonino also offer attractive residential areas well connected to the city centre.
What is the culture like in Treviso?
Italians love to spend time sitting out, drinking coffee or sipping a glass of local, excellent wine, and the inhabitants of Treviso are by all means no different. You will see them spending an afternoon chatting or reading a daily newspaper while enjoying a glass of Prosecco, world-famous sparkling wine originally from Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso. You should, however, not confuse this ability to enjoy life’s pleasures with negligence. Treviso is also where many international businesses originated, such as Benetton, Sisley, Stefanel, Geox and De Longhi, to name just a few. In addition, small and medium company owners keep their businesses local, ensuring unemployment stays low, and the economy is steadily growing.
What languages are spoken and can you get by with English only?
Although you would be surprised to hear an English-speaking person on the streets of Treviso just a few years ago, the number of tourists and expats has increased greatly since then. You will also be able to get about using English at local restaurants and shops. Still, Italians will always look at you with a favourable eye if you can say a few other words than just Spritz or Ciao.
What is the climate like?
The Italian climate is supposedly one of the most pleasant in the world. Indeed, in Treviso, you cannot complain about the weather too much. The summers are hot, but most inhabitants spend the blazing days in rented or owned apartments in Jesolo, relaxing by the pool. The nearby Alps and the Dolomites also offer a refreshing holiday destination. Spring and autumn offer many sunny days and perfect temperatures, with November being probably the only rainy month during the year. Winters are sunny and moderately cold, giving an opportunity to take advantage of many ski resorts, such as the famous Cortina d’Ampezzo or Asiago.
How to get around the city? Do you need a car?
A big part of the city’s culture is cycling. Being relatively small, Treviso allows for the city’s centre to be easily visited on two wheels. Many nearby locations make a perfect cyclist destination, such as Restera, a pleasant path alongside the river Sile which takes you from the city’s centre to nearby Silea. If you are up for an extended cycle, Asolo, a charming mediaeval town popular amongst retired American expats, is an excellent destination for a day trip. Treviso is also home to Pinarello - a famous bicycle manufacturer whose bikes can be spotted used by winners of the Tour de France or Giro d’Italia. 
Nonetheless, you may need a car if you want to go outside the city centre. Italians do not go anywhere without a car, and it is common for a family to have two or more vehicles. You can still manage just fine using public transport, but consider that the buses are not very frequent outside of popular routes. That said, Treviso is a great starting point if you want to travel more extensively around Italy - trains to all parts of the country depart daily from nearby Mestre.
Popular activities in Treviso.
Treviso is a historical city with narrow streets and ancient buildings, but there is much more to it than just captivating Italian architecture. There are some world-class museums for those who enjoy a bit of art. Well-curated Museo Civico di Santa Caterina, located beautifully in an old monastery, presents a rich collection of local art ranging from the Bronze Age to Rennesaince. Worth mentioning are also the newly renovated Museo Luigi Bailo, showing the city’s artists of the XX century, and Gallerie delle Prigioni, founded by the Fundazione Benetton in a former prison opposite the cathedral. The rich cultural offer is enhanced by Centro Carlo Scarpa, which proposes a wide range of activities related to the creations of the acclaimed architect. Treviso is also home to several festivals taking place throughout the year. There is a well-known Treviso Comic Book Festival in September, the literature festival CartaCarbone. Festival Letterario, the film festival Sole Luna Sguari Doc, and the Treviso Photography Festival. Each summer, by the city walls, the music festival Suoni di Marca takes place, which features famous Italian musicians from the region but not only. Additionally, fans of the sport will not be disappointed - Treviso has strong basketball and rugby teams, both supported by the Benetton Group.

Radicchio Trevisiano
You cannot talk about Italian culture without mentioning the food. Of course, northern Italian regions are famous for wine, but almost every city has its speciality. The province of Treviso is home to perhaps one of the most famous wines in the world - prosecco. This sparkling white wine is exquisitely produced in the hills between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene and the area of the nearby town of Asolo. Treviso is also famous for radicchio, also known as Italian chicory. This leaf vegetable is commonly used in Italian cuisine. Still, it is most popular in the area of Treviso, where in-season radicchio can be found everywhere, with many restaurants serving unique dishes with this dark red, bitter vegetable. Besides, Treviso is where tiramisu, one of the Italian national desserts, originated. The traditional recipe was created in the 1960s by Ado Campeol - the owner of the historical restaurant “At the Beccherie”. Apart from local specialities, in Treviso, you can enjoy famous Italian dishes at their best. Before you head out for dinner, a glass of Spritz, the popular aperitif made with sparkling wine and Aperol or Campari, served with ‘cicchetti’ or just a bowl of crisps, is not to be missed.

Movies I Watched in 2022
1. La Ascension

Based off a real life event where a French-Algerian man climbed Mount Everest with no experience to prove to a woman how much he loved her, this movie follows Samy Diakhaté, a French-Senegalese man, on that quest and his challenge not only to prove how much he loves Nadia but to prove he can actually do something to the people in his neighborhood block. It’s heartwarming, endearing, and inspiring, and because of the twist, really helps connect Samy to the local people of Nepal who while skeptical of him and his inexperience become just as dear of friends and cheerleaders. 
2. Queen

When Rani Mehra gets dumped by her fiancée days before their wedding, she’s heartbroken and melancholy until she is convinced to go to Europe using her planned honeymoon. Skeptical and shy at first having never leaving the country she almost goes right back home but thanks to making a friend of her maid in her French hotel, she goes out exploring and learns she can be anything she wants by herself which also gives her the confidence in Amsterdam to overcome her fear of being in a hostel with three boys to become good friends with them as she proves she’s just as good as a renown chef. I love the female empowerment in this movie and more specifically the empowerment to single women that they are just as important as single women.
3. Skater Girl

Faced at 14 with being in a low caste destined to marry early, Rajastan, feels trapped until she runs into a young women visiting from England who introduces her to skateboarding. The freedom of riding on a board is everything Rajastan wants, despite her parents disapproval, and as she works with Jessica to teach other kids and open a skate-park she feels more confidence. Sure this doesn’t solve all her problems and as her parents do force her into early marriage, its unclear of her future, but this movie speaks to the importunacy of finding your passions, fighting through adversity, and not underestimating people who come from places different from your own.
4. This Beautiful Fantastic

A lovely, charming movie with a message of embracing challenges in your own unique way made this a gem to find. Bella is a librarian with hopes of becoming a children’s author, but due to growing up parentless and with a case of OCD that makes her a little peculiar, slowly finds she can do so much more than she thought when after headbutting with her neighbor, learns to create a garden in the outdoors that used to terrify her. Learning she can overcome her fears and learn new skills, she not only befriends the older man but his cook who also become like family to her as she risks love and greater adventure in life. Plus its a love letter to gardening in the best way possible.
5. Zero to Hero

A biopic about Chinese Paralympian So Wai-Wai and his rise to become one of the greats after being born with cerebral palsy. It shows the dedication and trials of him and his mom to prove to people that his disability doesn’t make him different and its absolutely beautiful in showing the relationship between to the two from his birth, rise to success, and retirement. I thoroughly enjoyed it and its pacing even through its tough times and appreciate that it did show the hardships as well as their success.
6. Enola Holmes 2

I really enjoyed the first Enola Holmes, but like this one better for several reasons. The main plot of this movie is really about a young woman trying to make it on her own and prove she is just as capable as any man, including her famous older brother. Sure she’s still young, so the help she gets from Sherlock and her mother when she gets in trouble is endearing, but its also great to see that they don’t hold her back in trying to do what she believes is right. That and I absolutely love her and Lord Tewsberry because even though he is a plant nerd, he respects her and helps her to make their relationship feel like a partnership.
7. Hawaizaada

A very gorgeous and cinematography spectacle of the story behind the man who may in fact have invented flight in Bombay India several years before the Wright Brothers. It was a visual and emotional feast with compelling stories even it might really stretch the truth. Again, I love a story about people persevering through their mistakes and hard times, to achieve the success and passion they dream of, especially when everyone is either laughing in their face or out to get them. A true underdog story that also highlights that the West likes to claim its superior and first in every way, but that’s not true history.
8. Last Night in Soho

One of my Spooktober horror movies that I really really loved. This took a spin on the classic serial killer genre with a sci-fi/supernatural twist of having a modern day somewhat psychic fashion student embody the memories of a young girl hoping for fame and fortune, but falling into cruelty and prostitution. Watching the visual effects of Eloise just slipping into the past, having her falter at what’s real or not, as she watches what happens to Sandie’s life is intriguing and spooky. Especially at the twist at the end that I did not see coming.
9. The Girl King

Getting more visible LGBTQA representation in historical biopics is really great and especially when you get to learn more about historical figures you didn’t know about. This movie follows the rise to ruler of Kristina, Queen of Sweden who doesn’t act like a traditional woman and doesn’t want to be married off when all her life she’s been taught how to rule. Instead as she becomes queen and searches for more knowledge like her father taught her, she becomes a great ruler even if its ahead of her time which is why she’s ultimately driven out of Sweden.
10. The Handmaiden

This movie. Based on the trailer I had really no idea where in the hell this would go and considering it has about three major twists that I did not see coming, I found it absolutely captivating and intriguing. And its another win for LGBTQ representation, though the very explicit sex scenes weren’t necessary in my opinion as the resident asexual I am. Still really enjoyed it though.

If you’re looking for the best place to retire, you might want to break out the atlas: The United States slipped even further down the list in a new ranking. Four-decade-high inflation, a volatile stock market and ballooning public debt are among the factors threatening the economic security of retirees, according to the 2022 Natixis Investment Managers Global Retirement Index. The index evaluates 18 metrics grouped into four categories: health, finances in retirement, quality of life and material well-being.
What’s the best place to retire?
Norway climbed up from No. 3 to claim the top spot in the analysis of 44 developed economies, although the Scandinavian country is no stranger to the top of this list: When the index was first published in 2012, Norway topped it back then, too. Switzerland retained its second-place spot from 2021, and Iceland rounded out the top three. The U.S. was ranked No. 18, down one spot from last year. Its score was dragged down by low metrics of material well-being and finances. The low material well-being ranking was the result of low scores pertaining to unemployment and income equality. Its low rating in the Finances category was chalked up to subpar performance for taxes, governance, bank loan portfolios and old-age dependency. To a certain extent, a large nation like the U.S. would almost inevitably have a hard time acing the goals set out in the index, says Dave Goodsell, executive director of the Natixis Center for Investor Insight. “The countries that perform well on this list tend to be smaller,” he says. “It’s hard to get consistency” in a country with a big, diverse population. The large population of Americans at or nearing retirement faces challenges relating to employment, income inequality, government debt and tax policies. Natixis calls these the “levers that can drive or diminish the wellbeing of retirees. “In a year on track to be one of the worst on record to retire, the market downturn and sharp increase in food, gas, housing and medications have hit retirees particularly hard,” the company says.

Natixis flagged three big risk categories for retiree finances. As anyone who’s bought groceries or filled up their gas tank lately knows, inflation is at the top of the list. This year, the economic ripple effects of a global pandemic and geopolitical conflicts are on full display: Russia’s war with Ukraine triggered an energy shock that could drive Europe into a recession and is contributing to global food inflation, while companies of all sorts are still struggling with supply-chain issues and shortages of raw materials, components like semiconductors and finished goods. While higher prices erode the purchasing power of accrued wealth, Natixis says the other major challenges are a shift in the interest rate environment and longer lifespans. After a decade during which savers earned rock-bottom returns, the cost of borrowing has begun to climb, but returns on safe products often used by retirees remain paltry, increasing at a much slower rate. And this dynamic is playing out in an era of rising longevity that strains budgets — both individual household finances as well as governments responsible for overseeing public benefits that have to figure out how to pay for those programs. “Public debt is on the minds of people in the U.S. About eight in 10 believe it will result in reduced retirement benefits down the road. There’s only so many ways this can be managed,” Goodsell says. And all of them, from higher taxation to cutbacks in government services, involve some level of sacrifice.
Health care costs skyrocket in retirement
Health care costs that are the world’s highest represent another key concern for older Americans. “For us in the U.S., that rises to the top of the equation, and it’s not just health care — it’s long-term care as well,” Goodsell says. “It’s the great unknown.” Investors and savers are between a rock and a hard place, Goodsell says. A survey of financial planners conducted by Natixis underscored just how much trouble it is for people to get the balance just right: While 42% of survey respondents said that people planning for retirement were overly bullish, overestimating their investment income, a nearly equal number — 41% — said that a top mistake was people being too conservative with their investments. In the long term, investing in equities provides a hedge against inflation, but this year’s swooning stock market highlights the risk inherent in that approach as well. “We’ve got volatility that we haven’t seen in a very long time,” Goodsell says, adding that this creates a particularly fraught scenario for the people who need to withdraw from retirement accounts for income or to meet IRS requirements.

This morning’s argument; housing
There is no doubt that W knows more about living and surviving in this modern society than I do. 
She has stocks, understands retirement, can navigate healthcare, and insurance. She did those things before we met. Not sure if her parents sat down with her and guided her through it, but knowing them, it’s more likely she figured it out on her own. (I really wish my parents had sat down with me to explain a few things, but they hired a financial planner to help them, and they were never really very patient about explaining things like that, finding it more efficient to simply do it for me than take the time to help me understand.)
That’s not to say I’m a super dumbdumb about that type of thing. I can navigate the most bureaucratic bullshit for winery compliance, and I’m not afraid to pick up the phone to get the information, which W prefers not to do, often refuses to do. But with housing and real estate, W is so much more knowledgeable having done research for housing and following the trends in country, county and city closely for the last fifteen or so years. 
Last night, we heard that the four-apartment complex where we live, and have lived for over twenty years, was sold to an older couple from the Bay Area who have kids and grandkids in the area. They can’t make us move out unless they are moving in. And it seems likely, they would want to move their family in. Our apartment is the best. Laminate floors, a wine cellar that W built out of a closet, good backyard, deck, large closets. 
When we first heard it was up for sale, W freaked out. Our landlords told us it probably would be in escrow until September, so there was time to look and come up with a plan. She took it super hard right out of the gate, because she knows housing is a shit show. Real estate prices are unreal in California, and they have been ridiculous in the last twenty years especially, unless you count that short period after the Great Recession when houses were getting foreclosed and then trashed and people were getting them for a song, followed by an expensive dance to repair and rehabilitate. This is a college town with a lot of agriculture, some tech, and lots of retirees and family vacation homes. It’s a tourist destination and many homeowners have turned their second homes into AirBNBs to be able to afford their mortgage. 
(Let’s talk for a moment how AirBNBs are the worst. The rule in our city (and in many cities) for AirBNBs is that you can’t rent your whole house out on the service, only part of the house AND the owners have to live there. But if you go and look at the listings, you can see whole houses being rented anyway, blatantly breaking the rules (AirBNB doesn’t care, by the way, you can report all you want, but they won’t do anything. And the city? They don’t seem to care either because they probably don’t have a person there to enforce their own rules). The owners of these AirBNBs can’t afford the mortgage without using the service. Making that decision to buy a place they have to AirBNB (verb) fucks over all the people who work low wage jobs in this town, which is the majority of our population. The decisions those AirBNB homeowners made to buy a house with a mortgage they couldn’t afford was bad, because they have removed the ability for residents to have a long term rental and removing it from the market makes a scarcity of housing which inflates housing prices and rents further. And how greedy is it to own two homes when you just need one. And private family vacation homes that sit empty the majority of the year? Those people have removed those houses from the market as well, and shame on them. What’s wrong with a hotel? *steps down off milk crate*)
W is freaking out less today, because she has already thought about the options. Honestly, we were going to try to buy our complex but there is no way we could afford something over a million dollars. So, that option goes into the bin. Finding another rental will be tough if we and to stay close to work, have a yard, the same amount of space… not impossible, but our rent would increase significantly. We could retrofit a warehouse bay, but that would cost some money, too. And which is the best option? 
The point of contention comes up when W asks me what I want, where I want to live. This surprises and annoys me, because I feel like we have been talking about this for a while, and doesn’t she know?
