Hello~ Hello~ Anon agin.

That’s right I have been listening to Kpop since pre-teen years. It’s an interesting question you ask, because it’s something I actually don’t get asked a lot.

When thinking about it, I guess I’m not a “normal” fan girl. For example, though I have been into Kpop for a long time I don’t own any albums or merchandise from any group. I will vote only once or not at all for a group I Stan. This is a personal choice. It’s not like I don’t want to support them, but it’s not on my priority list. Given the chance and if I had more free time I would definitely go to more concerts. My first concert was in my high school years. I went to a JYJ concert and it was good experience. Jaejoong was my first ever bias. I was so star struck and overjoyed seeing him in person.

Anyway, back in 2007 it was much harder to find content on groups back then and social media was not really available. Therefore, searching and scourging the internet for content was such a chore when you compare it to now. It was actually worth it in the end. The satisfaction I got when I was able to find something made me felt like I achieved the impossible lol.

Though Kpop has been become more accessible I actually really haven’t changed much. Music is something I enjoy a lot. Therefore, I actually give every group a chance when they debut or have a comeback. I like music that speaks to me. However, I still had certain groups that I followed closely.

One group that I truly biased was VIXX. I liked that they changed their concepts and had stories behind their music videos. It was theatrical in a sense and it kept me coming back for more. Another group that I biased was SNSD. I loved their poppy music more. It always gave me a boost of serotonin. As for a soloist Park Hyo Shin has wonderful music. I’m genuinely fond of him as a person too. Also, the music he personally works on and his voice is a chef’s kiss.

Interestingly Kpop I believe has become oversaturated. A lot of Kpop music is starting to sound the same. Where there is a lot of noise mostly. Also, I actually don’t like how South Korea has this mentality of following trends. Most times it’s music that I can vibe with, and who doesn’t like good song where it can get you hyped. However, I just feel most Kpop groups cannot grow as artists when individuality is frowned upon. It’s quite frustrating to see such talented individuals never get the recognition or grow. Entrainment career is really based on luck.

Since I believe Kpop groups are starting to sound the same I end up watching groups variety shows. I have watched Kpop group shows before, because this is how I picked out a bias, and let me tell you my biases are over the place. When a certain individual catches my attention it’s because their personality is very different from what I first initially thought. However, now it also helps me determine if the group is worth following. For instance, take seventeen with their show Going Seventeen. They are very entertaining. They have a good amount of members who are witty and extroverted. They play well with one another and feed off each other great. It makes their dynamic work and it’s entertaining. For me Chemistry is key. That’s why I follow them.

Now since this is an NCT blog I will share that NCT as a group is just too big to have that kind of dynamic. Also, with members being added dynamics change. Unfortunately, NCT is not a group I follow closely. I follow certain individuals but that’s mostly it. As a group it’s too all over the place for me. I actually take time to watch WAYV because they have a Seventeen variety vibe and I find them more entertaining. I actually have seen bigger groups like AKB48, but they have system that works and Japan and South Korea idol worlds are very different. Plus, Japan will push their money makers/popular members and it is what it is for the other members. Japanese fans seem ok with this concept.

I will admit I think NCT members are accepting and good natured people overall. It’s not easy to be in a group with an unlimited amount of members and try to work altogether. Plus, I think that the members always try to include everyone as much as possible and help the other shine and that is admirable.

One last thing you asked about shippers getting out of hand. I’m from the west and so it’s from what I read from western Kpop shippers. I don’t think it’s that bad, most idols know it’s in their job. When shippers did get out of hand it apparently happened to EXO’s Hunhan (Sehun and Luhan). They were a super popular ship, but apparently out of nowhere they didn’t seem close anymore. There was other reasons, but fan girls believe what they want, so they blamed each other.

I swear if I share anything else I will try to make it short lol. I actually want to share a lot more, but again I try to keep it as short as possible.

Haha, Seventeen is a “small enough” group with 13 members. I got to know about them before NCT and had a hard time wrapping my mind around the concept of a whole class of boys performing. At least NCT divide into subunits for U projects (with two exeptions, BoB and Resonance).

I monitor new k-pop releases weekly, I think in the second part of 2020 there were many comparatively interesting songs. But overall I agree. Even song-writers complain that smaller agencies’ representatives ask them to write “a song like EXO”. I agree about many idols not developing in their group as well. I think it was VeryVery’s (?) member who impressed me with his leadership and choreographer skills in Road to Kingdom. Sadly, the group’s music is uninspiring.

Buckle in because I have been on a RIDE the last few months so I wanna write it all out how BTS stole my whole soul.

I didn’t want to get into kpop even though i remember casually liking a couple shinee songs way back in like 2008 and coming across some kpop music videos when i lived in vietnam in 2012. all i remembered basically was ‘SHIIIIINNNEEEE’ lmao and remembered thinking it was fun but not really listening to it. I had a weird snobbishness against kpop fandom but secretly always knew from the glimpses of fancams and gifs and music vids i’d casually come across that if i looked into it i’d probably like it. I had no IDEA though how talented most kpop groups are and how much dancing was involved. I confess I had a really american view of pop groups and expected it to be all about looks and really poppy boy-band/girl-band, which I also do like...but didn’t put me in a rush to find out more about kpop. If I had realized how much they dance I know I would have looked more into it years ago because I love and respect dancing. I still knew I had the potential to like it if i ever looked into it, but I thought of it super shallow-ly so I never took the time to learn more. 

I remember years ago when Jin trended as ‘third guy from the left’ and i didn’t really know who he was at the time except that bts was pretty big and my college roommate casually liked them. I read through the comments on twitter at the time and was entertained and a little curious but didn’t look further. I remember seeing a pic as a result of the trend and finding out ppl called him World Wide Handsome and i found that hilarious and awesome and agreed with the assessment, I remember finding them all super handsome, but at this point still had only heard a little bit of Boy with Love.

Much later (years?) an NPR podcast I followed talked about Blackpink doing coachella and I got curious and watched a couple mvs and was really impressed but still casually. I now had a bit of a better respect for it but was still not really into it yet except thinking blackpink had bops and being generally vaguely aware that blackpink and bts were popular (i really didn’t realize how popular and how much music they were selling tbh).

Time passed and I forgot about it until about this april while I was bored in quarantine. I got SUPER into The Untamed and then super into finding out more about Wang Yibo...which lead to watching all of his dance stuff on youtube, which lead to a ton of stuff about Uniq. I was intrigued by kpop now because of learning more about Uniq, yibo, and then produce 101 and woodz but it was still casual.

I especially loved watching the dancing so I started watching dance compilations on youtube of kpop dancing. The whole dance practice thing amazed me and I had so much fun watching dances but wasn’t really getting into who was who yet or the music really. Then Taemin’s Move happened to me and I was HOOKED on that and watched it a ton of times in the next week or so while also watching playlists of generally popular kpop music vids. I started wanting to just see a bit of what was popular and was having a good time but not really hooked yet beyond quarantine boredom and knowing that looking up kpop dance vids was going to become a thing i did on youtube probably from then on.

By coincidence around this time the Daechwita music video came out and had a ton of views so i got curious and was in awe of it when I watched it. I loved the rapping, the hype-ness, the cinematography, the lyrics...everything. I learned then from the comment section that Agust D was actually Suga from BTS which instantly made me want to know way more about bts, but I was still stuck on thinking of them as pop and amazed that suga was such a good rapper. So I wanted to see how other people reacted to him and watched a ton of reaction vids of ppl reacting to Daechwita.

This made me curious about Suga and BTS so I watched DNA and Boy With Love and enjoyed those but they were more what I expected as more poppy songs, so at that point I just enjoyed it casually for the eye and ear candy, but I was amazed that agust d was one of the members in that group and the duality of that had me intrigued (i naively thought agust d/suga’s rapping was completely a separate persona than BTS, before I realized how talented suga, RM, and jhope are within bts too and how many of their songs have a lot of rap as well). So I wanted to learn more about BTS but just watching stuff by myself seemed boring so I binge watched reaction vids of people reacting to bts for the first time and learned way more about them along with youtubers and had a blast. Watching reaction vids at first felt like hanging out with other clueless friends all chatting about this thing new to us, so somehow it made everything feel more accessible to me especially while I missed casually browsing youtube with my friends during quarantine. Mic Drop was the first of their songs to get stuck in my head and had me specifically looking up the MV/listening to it and searching out ppls reactions to Mic Drop. Then I came across reactions to the 2019 mma performance and was blown away and watched a TON of reactions to that but I still didn’t know who anyone was and hadn’t looked into many lyrics but by then i was super impressed by the effort and performance level.

A turning point from casual fun interest to deeper stanning happened though when I watched a reaction vid someone made (unfortunately can’t remember who now) to Spring Day and the explanation of Spring Day. I was AMAZED at the intellectual and careful artistry in that music video and the heart put into it. This for me started to elevate my curiosity about bts specifically over just being curious about kpop in general. I decided to watch a bunch of reactions to ‘who is bts’ type of vids because i wanted to know their names at that point and I was blindsided by how impressed I was with their thought processes (specifically RM and Suga, especially at first), their individual strengths, their personalities in general, their bonds, their work ethic and ambition, and their inspirational story. I decided to watch their music vids on my own in chronological order and realized that there was reoccurring and connected story and symbolism in their music vids stretching for years and was SO HYPE about that and impressed by it (I love analyzing media, I even was briefly a film major so I was GEEKED about the artistry and symbols in their music vids even before I realized the references or how confusing and deep it ran and that made me like them even more). I googled about the storyline looking for theories/explanations and found the webtoon, which just blew my mind that they even had a webtoon! I read it in one night lol, I was in multimedia heaven honestly I have never heard of a music group being so into using so many mediums for entertainment and was definitely feeling so happy to get into it. THE WINGS SHORT FILMS were I think what officially elevated everything for me and made me know I’d always want to keep an eye on what they were putting out there because it was so so cool to me that they’d have this storyline in their music videos and also take the time to make these little artsy short movies I was SO IMPRESSED and blown away.

The real soul steeling happened though when I saw RM’s UN speech and started watching more compilations and reactions showing RM and Suga talking about their thoughts about their success and their music and learning about the relationships and personalities of the members...I quickly grew to appreciate each individual which really surprised me because how can one group be so complete and have 7 individually interesting people in it. I loved too that they all had their own solo stuff and were allowed to each shine in their own ways. It became about more than music for me at some point in there and I know now I’ll probably have warm feelings about them and want to root for them on a deeper level for a long time. Now their music is so enriched for me by all the behind the scenes stuff I’ve seen. I really in earnest then was mainlining all of the stuff I could in a mix of reaction vids to funny compilations to lyric breakdowns to finding an index that lists as much as possible in chronological order that I’m now watching through including their early vlogs and gameshows and it’s just so fascinating to me how much content they have documenting their whole journey and I am having such a fun and moving and inspiring time watching it. It’s really helped me during quarantine especially and now I can really say I am a really big fan of BTS and probably will be for a really long time.

I still sometimes watch other kpop music vids and have now seen all of TXTs stuff, but so far other groups haven’t grabbed my heart in the same way. I know at some point they probably will and I have been really impressed by the talent all throughout kpop in general that i’ve seen. I can usually only be obsessed with one thing at a time though lol, but I look forward to paying more attention in general to kpop from now on!

But there is something really special to me about BTS right now so I’m just letting myself bask in that obsession and it is so great. So many of their lyrics move me, RM and Suga alone are such interesting people that they alone would make me want to keep up with BTS. But then on top of that the rest are so great in their own ways too and Jimin along the way became probably my ‘bias’ though I really do like them all so much in their own ways that choosing one as a fave feels stupid. Then on the shallower note they are also beautiful, so there is that...but that is such a small piece of why I love them now. Kpop combos everything I love about music...the theatrics, the symbolism, the flashiness, the music, the makeup, the glam, the dancing, the fun, the inspiration, the acting, the iconography...and with bts it’s also a group of guys who are so intensely likable and root-able, with a huge amount of content, who reflect a lot on what it means to love yourself and know yourself and who are really open about how much effort goes into their crazy lives...and I am just upset that I didn’t know more about them years ago.

I can also completely see why fans are a bit obsessive and defensive about the genre and about their fave groups now...because the western media still doesn’t really get how impressive this stuff is and how much work goes into it. I mean already groups like one direction and other pop groups had to fight uphill battles for respect b/c for some reason pop music gets such a bad rep. But western media and ppl who never bother to look into kpop look down on it so dismissively as mindless pop or just about looks and are so extra condescending about it like these kpop groups are lucky to come to the US or something. There’s so much reluctance to embrace it even when it’s so popular, that fans have to shove it’s popularity in ppls faces for it to start to be accepted finally, and even now the attitude in media toward it seems pretty dismissive like it’s just temporary or about teenage girls or they focus on the fans and not the music...or they purposefully overly focus on negative or perceived negatives and look for things to discredit their accomplishments. In some ways the popularity BTS has accomplished is even more impressive to me than the beatles comparisons imply, because BTS did it with a language barrier, while dancing, and in the face of the US still being pretty racist against asians. It really is impressive, and even as a new fan I get so frustrated when people try to dismiss it as fad or minimize their successes and the mark on culture and music history that not just kpop but specifically BTS is making with these accolades and firsts.

Way too much western media focus goes to extra shit like: how young they are (they aren’t even really younger than a lot of american performers anyway), dismissing their involvement in the music process (freaking do your research and give credit where credit is due, many idols are more involved in their creative process than american singers anyway and even if they weren’t why are we suddenly caring about that?!), focusing on the rules they are under from companies (accept that it’s a different culture...also, disney anyone?), crediting their collaborators for their success more than them (sia added absolutely nothing to ON for example...and their success is not because of Halsey..and stop f-ing asking who they want to collab with), not giving credit for their dancing and over-focusing on live vocals without crediting them for singing /while/ dancing (that shit’s hard and no one is doing it like kpop, and even if sometimes live vocals get shaky the way people specifically nitpick and harp on that for them is so stupid when plenty of super popular ‘western’ singers also give some shaky live performances or also use a backing track all while dancing a hell of a lot less), criticizing them for makeup (i honestly think this is thinly disguised racism/fetishism at work because plenty of american male artists wear makeup and are not met with the uncomfortable comparisons to dolls and girls and sexualized criticism that american media gives this), dismissing them as just ‘pretty’, judging them for how the trainee system works (which they don’t really have control over, and is pretty hypocritical anyway when you consider how western music contracts and studios work...shadiness is intense in american music industry too), constantly wanting them to put more english into their music (spanish songs are getting radio play (tbh also not enough), and their global success keeping their korean lyrics proves anyway that we should be moving beyond caring so much about language barriers but the radio/media response is just so behind what people are listening to/buying and it’s frustrating how xenophobic it is). 

now that I know more about it, it’s so insulting how condescending some of the interview questions they get and some of the articles about kpop are because they act like kpop is some alien thing that’s lucky to break into the US as if the US is the center of everything and tbh it’s disrespectful and xenophobic and often racist. kpop is a whole package of entertainment and showmanship that honestly is way more work than most of the famous ‘western’ performers bring to their shows and music vids. I am not naive and I do know that language does affect radio play, but it’s not hard to look up lyric translations and music is really transcendent of language imo. It’s not like they need to be playing every new group or even a ton of korean music, I know that american radio is pretty guttless at the prospect of sharing ‘new’ stuff, it’s a lot of the same stuff repeatedly, but at the very least the groups and songs that are organically selling huge numbers and getting hugely popular should get the radio play that reflects some of that popularity. Really entertainers in the US should be trying to learn from the kpop scene and tbh it should be way more respected than the condescending reluctant attitude music media in the US especially has been giving it. I do feel like maybe the attitudes are changing and I hope they are. I really feel like it’s the future of pop and it’s really exciting for me now to finally know more about it and be more aware of it for the future.

My thoughts on October Daye #12 “Night and Silence” oooor “Dammit, Janet!” (suggestion courtesy of @mistressofmuses ).

And with this I am officially all caught up! Well, I haven’t read all the novellas and short stories, but caught up on the main series. Now I have to wait for #13 this year like a normal person! Gah! 

-So, leading off from all the horrible shit that happened last book, things aren't going.. great.

-You know that intense, extreme trauma 2 members of the main cast experienced @ the end of last book? Yeah that. Didnt go away

-There's a line about how Tybalt keeps seeing Toby as her mother Amandine... the person who kidnapped and basically tortured him last book. And he's basically terrified of shapeshifting at all and has just stayed in his humanoid form. And he's refusing help from anyone and disappearing for long stretches. And maybe going just a little bit Fuckening Crazy. G-great start, guys!

-And there's a flashback where he's just MEAN and like you can understand why but MAJOR YIKES and also pain.

-Gillian Is Missing Again but I have a feeling this is not gonna be much of a retread...

-And.. boy this sure is a callback huh? May and Quentin being the found family, Gillian is missing, Tybalt is antagonistic...

-ok Jocelyn is a creepy fangirl character

-ok I'm 5 chapters in and wondering where this is going. Apparently there's Quite The Twist in this one or at least that's what I suspect is going to happen

-oooohkay they find like this weird pocket dimension with like. A miniature house that is also a chicken (and no one even mentions Baba Yaga). And idk what it is about the scene but it is fucking eerie and creepy as hell somehow.

Shade appeared in like book 6 as a Literal Cat so.. here she is showing up and being relevant for 5 minutes

-but what the FUCK is with this place. I got nothing and that exposition just raises more questions. There's no magic scent at all (except MAYBE cinammon), a bunch of rare fucking plants, and a fucking miniature baba yaga hut just wandering around

-that opens another rabbit hole because Golden Gate Park is ALSO completely unclaimed for no particular reason 🤔

This might be a waste of picture and might get deleted later but like, that's fucking creepy, right???

-god I know there HAS to be someone with cinnamon in their magical signature who we've MET but... it's been 12 books, dog. I dont fuckin remember

-The closest I can think is Simon with "mulled cider" because that's cinnamony... BUT it's pretty unlikely he did this, and that part of his magical signature is PRE corruption and we have the corrupted version running around.

-We just found a SECOND creepy unexplainable house hidden in plain sight so that's starting to feel Thematic.

-And she smells the false Queen's magic in this house :) someone supposedly asleep for 100 years in Silences. So that's great.

-Aaand there's Gillain! Not even halfway through the book. Way too easy.

-It's not Gillian. It's a Baoban Sith which is apparently *googling* a.. vampire. Ok

-They go to Goldengreen based on a hint and Marcia is there baking cinnamon rolls. It really stresses the fact that she's making cinnamon rolls.

-Ok. Ok ok. Assuming that's the truth that means Amandine's mother was.. a human? Making her a fucking CHANGELING Firstborn? What the fuuuuuck

-Oh that is fucking hysterical with what a fucking blood purist Amandine is. She looks down upon changelings and the beast races SO MUCH. Janet implies Amandine has no idea her mother was human, or at least never knew Janet. I'd bet she figured out she was part human because the Dochas Sidhe's whole deal is messing with one's heritage for fun results. Gosh. Hmm.

-And this mirrors everyone hiding October's heritage from her BEAUTIFULLY.

-I don't remember quite when "Miranda" was introduced but it was pretty early on. And now that I think of it there was NO REASON for her to fucking exist! What the fuck! The story would have made just as much sense with Cliff being a single dad raising Gillian. Miranda was just an antagonistic extra detail who didn’t... really do much. God damn it. 

-Cliff “accidentally” marrying Toby's maternal grandmother who is somehow Human and also like, alive, in order to help raise Toby's daughter is. Fucking Something, huh.

Oh lore??? (Oberon, King of Faerie, kinda a nice guy it turns out, accidentally knocks up a human. Uh... whoops?)

-Fuck dude, that was the blood memory flashback we had in book 9. The Luidaeg begging her mom not to leave on The Ride. Oof.

-So Janet is, yes indeed human and YES INDEED Toby’s grandmother. She’s cursed with immortality because of all that shit she pulled. 

-And BOY does that lore regarding Janet make the whole "Amandine was doted on and given everything she ever asked for" make sense cause... THAT'S WHAT THEY DID WITH HUMANS. And here we have a fucking FIRSTBORN born from a fucking HUMAN. Gosh. Jeez.

-and Katy pointed out to me that that's a big book 3 reference because Toby's family holds her down when THEY try to remove her from Blind Michael's version of the Ride, and SHE wildly shapeshifts through dozens of forms.It was a Tam Lin retelling only I don’t think I ever expected the actual thing to be relevant. 

-And FUCK Evening/Eira, by the way. I think that goes without saying at this point.

-So is Blind Michael's Ride supposed to be a replacement of the old one? 500 years ago the fae used The Ride to sacrifice a human every 7 years--until Tam Lin and Janet fucked it up. Fast forward to the present and we had Blind Michael showing up every couple years stealing children for what HE called The Ride.

-soooo Toby killing Blind Michael might have not been a great thing if you follow that line of reasoning. I mean, he was a fucking monster, BUT... Because The Ride is supposedly to maintain balance, hence the sacrifices. Whatever the fuck that ultimately means. And by stopping it...

-Add that on to all the stuff last book about how Blind Michael wasn't always such a shitty person, and... uh hmmm.

-OK this part might be a stretch but: the Dochas Sidhe are the only descendants we know of that are just... one hundred percent descended from one of the Three. The human part is largely irrelevant in fae terms. They’re directly Oberon’s, not some mix of Maeve/Oberon or Titania/Oberon. Would that mean Oberon is actually Dochas Sidhe? He did, after all, create the hope chests, and the Dochas Sidhe are literally living, breathing hope chests. IDK MAN.

-So it is, predictably, the false Queen behind this whole situation, helped by Jocelyn. And I just FUCKING REMEMBERED that it was that dickbag Dugan who had cinnamon in his magical signature .-.

OH FUCK! I FUCKING *CALLED* THIS SHIT OUT IN BOOK SIX! I remember it being mentioned offhand as something that could happen. I fucking KNEW we were going to turn a character into a Selkie for plot reasons. But I gotta say I didn't expect it to be Gillian!

FUCK DUDE ;___; in this house we stan The Luidaeg. Best character. I'm not crying. (I am.) 

-She has a line a few pages later about anxiety and catastrophic thinking, and how what you THINK will happen is never as bad as what actually happens. She compares it to "chasing the tide" and honestly that's such a useful metaphor, as someone often caught in that trap...

-They take down Dugan, yay, he was a loose end. He's not DEAD, but.. This is another one where the villain felt pretty secondary to the big plot revelations. 

-And Tybalt stepped down (temporarily) as King. Jolgeir's daughter is apparently going to temporarily take things over so I expect we will be introduced to her later??

-And, like the last few books, theres a novella epilogue at the end. This one is "Suffer a Sea-Change" and looks to be from Gillian's perspective.

-ok so Gillian has this whole scene where she TALKS to Firtha (whose skin she's wearing now) and I can't help but wonder if all selkies have this weird scene with the Roane whose skin they inherit when they ascend or whatever?

-The Answer Is "No", The Story Explicitly Says 

-Gillian is honestly pretty funny. She's up to here with this bullshit.

-The Luidaeg would like to remind everyone that she’s nice to October and Quentin but she’s not actually all that nice to most other people and Definitely Has Her Own Agenda. Although she seems to have taken in Poppy as an apprentice of sorts so... *vague shrugging* 

-And The Luidaeg speaking fondly about her "little brother Michael" who liked interior decorating despite being entirely blind. This is my uncomfortable face based on all my Analysis earlier.

-So Gillian is a Selkie now! That's not a twist I expected. And the next book (not out until September) is about The Luidaeg finally calling in their debts. So uh. That was one hell of a way to make the stakes personal on that.

-Im probably gonna make a master post overview of the series now that I read the whole thing in relatively short order. I'm glad I'll have a chance to read other books, but I'm anxious for the next one too based on the recent developments...

RE: the latest Mark Gatiss kerfuffle

Yesterday, the precious, @shylockgnomes posted this newspaper interview with Mark Gatiss. Needless to say, there isn’t a single comment on that thread (other than mine) that isn’t so salty that you could drink the rivers dry and still not quench your thirst. 

It’s frustrating as fuck.

I am posting this knowing full well that I will get hate for it, or unfollowed, but it’s come to the point now that I really don’t care. We are the SHERLOCK fandom ans should know how to read between the lines. 

What happened to the fandom mantra:

Lying liars who lie.

S4 didn’t go the way fandom  thought it should, so we are throwing Mofftiss under the bus for it?? I am no stan of either man. I think they are so full of themselves as to make me vomit, but everything they say, no matter what it is about, is never straight-forward. They always hide their meaning behind their educated hubris. Taking it personally that they aren’t treating us the way we think they should is our own fault. They are who they are and will always be.

So, I commented as such on that post of Torry’s and privately got a lovely response, which I have been permitted to share here. I will keep them anonymous because I don’t care anymore to get hate or people calling me out on this. They can come forward if they want to, but enough is enough. We have to stop acting like wounded children and allowing Mofftiss to continue to play us as they do. We are never gonna get showrunners of Hannibal’s ilk. They aren’t those kinds of dudes. Never will be. 

This show is an amazing tour de force of meta, subtext, intertext. Why on earth would we believe the creators of such a complicated tale would ever be straight-forward with their responses. Whether it’s to criticism, or what the show is about. There continued complaint is that media consumers want to be spoon-fed warm pap. Well, isn’t that what all of our whinging amounts to? 

I would hope fandom would read this comment sent to me, and just think!

I can't even form thoughts as to why people's reactions are ridiculous. Like....he's not a snob, he's just of a certain class and a certain generation. He's an intellectual and he talks like one. It's exactly like Mark said - something rises up and people want to cut it down. I see nothing wrong with anything he said. It is true that the ratings thing is bollocks. Ratings naturally fall after the first episode of a season. 5 mill for the finale is a perfectly acceptable rating night for a regular episode of much beloved doctor who. The ratings were good, of course they were, the audience were already established, they didnt need to do anything at all to get decent ratings. 

And this "attentive smart audience deserves better" attitude?? Ridiculous. Entitled crap. Watch the show. If you don't like Mark as a person, don't read his interviews. Do we need to have our egos stroked for being clever? Do we need to be treated kindly by writers? No. I just don't understand that. They aren't our parents. They created a thing and we love it. They owe us nothing else, in my opinion. But in know that's not the popular view.

It's like people need to be congratulated for being a fan. When all Moftiss have done is create the art they were driven to create, in exactly the way they wanted. They never cared about audience reaction, right from the beginning. All they wanted is for enough people to like it for them to be able to keep making it.They say they thought it would have a cult following....in other words, they WANTED just a cult following.

Honestly, if series 4 cuts the audience back to that cultish few like us who.....omg. That's seriously their intention isn't it?? Dang. That's neat.

I don't think Moftiss have a negative view of fangirls or BC fans or anything like that. I think they have a negative view of people, period. Lol. They're smarter than to stereotype fans, at least Steven is. Even if that doesn't come through in interviews. Mark as a gay man might feel strongly about fetishization and that's unfortunate because I'm sure he misunderstands that many many women get into shipping m/m because of being repressed gay/bi and that's the way that it starts rising up out of your miserable repressed subconscious, and Mark would have no idea about how repression works in women because it's such a insidious thing all tied up with misogyny, and I wouldn't bother even holding that against him unless I sat down with him and had a chat then discovered that he was a total dick. Until then, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that interviewers pick and choose quotes to inflame readers, and to tell the perspective they've chosen to tell. I don't like people holding snootiness against him. First of all, it's just British. And second, it's tall poppy syndrome - taking our most brilliant intellectuals and wanting to bring them down for making the rest of us feel dumb, whereas we should really be letting them run the world. Fuccckkkkk.

so boxy is my friend who ive been mutuals for over a year and our first common interest is love live and haikyuu so we had that to talk about but im bad at keeping conversations with ppl on tumblr so that ended quickly but earlier this year or late last year i made a twitter and told people on here about it and she followed me and i didnt really mind/pay attention to the stuff she posted/rted uNTIL. until that fateful day... june 25th... at like 8pm? she rted a pic of mister brian kang with dumb minion glasses on and ok maybe i do believe in love at first sight? bc wow!!!!! whos this dumbass with minion glasses and the fluffiest hair ??? so i slide into boxy’s dm.. expecting an explanation and she gives me a good one saying how brians from a band (i would later find out), day6 and im not a fan of kpop, never have been.. ive only watched like some kpop mvs bc i love my friends so i expect myself to listen to them and get over them as soon as im done. boxy my friend, bless HER she sends me all of their mvs from congratulations to i smile and i watch the first one - i smile and me? i start smiling and i can feel myself getting excited because holy fuck theyre a band! they play fucking instruments??? and at this point im already whipped then i move onto how can i say and that shit blew my mind let me tell you.. so because of boxy... i get to where i am now, proudly stanning 3 groups and if it were not for her i wouldve never gotten into mx as well... boxy is just?? really important to me her impact is just that great?? so im super!! sUPER thankful for her and i dont think she’ll ever see this but boxy i love u thank u so much!! boxy gave me more than one reason to live, and not just exist?? without her i wouldve never been able to make so many (like 2 but hEY) new friends and this probably got so long idk im just really thankful for boxy thank u lord for blessing us with boxy (@/youngkwhom on twitter) (kittenma on tumblr) i hope shes happy forever and i also hope she has good days for the rest of her life?? boxy deserves it i lvoe u boxy

Projects I'm Working On

Hello, fair folk of the internet!

I originally had a very different blog post planned for today, but as I was scrolling through previous blog posts it occurred to me: while I talk about the WIPs and novels I’m working on, I’ve never actually explained them.

On Twitter I have the hashtag #TheFictionList/#TFL and #SandCB for my projects, which brings up a few pitch preps for #TFL and me rambling about my disaster children for both.

I’m definitely going to be talking about The Fiction List more as the year goes on, as I’m pitching this June (hopefully – June or September) in PitMad on Twitter and will be querying over the rest of the summer. Eep! The madness will absolutely be updating on my blog and twitter, so I figured it’s high time to explain what they’re even about.

The Fiction List

When a teen book blogger has anxiety about senior year, she and fellow blogging friends decide to create a list – The Fiction List. A race to check off YA fiction stereotypes in their own lives leads to drama, chaos, and spectacular backfiring.

That’s the pitch I used for #NaNoWriterMatch (which honestly, I did not end up with a match but still had fun anyway :P) and I was honestly stunned by a few of the comments. Very special thanks to @daylightreads for saying you misread my tweet and tried to find the book on Goodreads- I floated on that compliment for the rest of the week.

ANYWHO, TFL is an enemies-to-lovers YA Contemporary with sarcasm, book blogging, and the power of friendship (as cheesy as it sounds). It’s a bit of a love letter to the online book community and how easily the online world can bleed into the offline world. And enemies to lovers, because, duh, it’s me writing it. All of my books are that way (because it’s cutest trope ever and I will die on this hill).

This is the book I’m pitching and to be completely honest, I’m struggling with writing it right now. I’m on draft three, technically – I wrote half of a draft two last Camp NaNo before taking a break which turned into a forever-break. I love writing first drafts, they’re the most fun and freeing – but the rest of the drafts? They actually have to be good and make sense and I struggle with this, lol!

I also made some aesthetics for the story and a Pinterest board! Because procrastination powers.

The Cast

(these descriptions were taken straight from Twitter, which is why my writing is sooo much more casual lol!)

Zinnia Prow: She is a stressy mess (we stan) & a blogger with a rebellious streak wider than her bookshelves. While she has anxiety, she isn’t afraid to stand up to sarcasm or people who are wrong. She would do anything for friends, even fly across the world. She’s the protagonist and the sole POV!

Natalia Moretti: Natalia is one of Zinn’s best friends in the world and is an Italian book blogger! She would rather jump off a cliff than admit she’s wrong and has a very deadpan, sarcastic sense of humor. Has a crush on Austen despite her better judgment and the voice of reason(ish??? barely)

Austen Jacobson: Austen is a Mess and YouTube sensation, BFFs with Zinn and Nat. He rarely gets enough sleep from staying up late drawing or practicing for hockey. Excitable and likely to rush into something without thinking, his home life ain’t great but he’s workin’ on it. dramatic as heckkk

Kyson Jennings: My autumn-obsessed soft boi, Kyson’s the love interest and sarcastic as HECK. He will adamantly deny being Soft if confronted but we know the truth. He’s dEtErMiNeD and has a fear of failure. Zinnia annoys him on a daily basis and it’s a while before they can stand each other ^-^

A few of the other reoccuring characters are Mia, one of Zinnia’s friends throughout all of high school with her but starting to drift away, Poppy, Zinnia’s overly serious younger sister with her feet firmly on the ground instead of head in the clouds, Forest, her older brother in a college two hours away, and Atticus, one of the boys in book club. And the elusive AKinderSea, a popular bookstagrammer who posts fROM her scHOOL?

Basically, all the geekiness.

Sunflowers and Combat Boots

Going to be completely honest and say this title has absolutely nothing to do with the story. I put it in as a placeholder for a Pinterest board and never changed it.

S&CB is about a dysfunctional superhero family who basically kinda accidentally adopts a villain. There’s a lot of arguing, sarcasm, and double-crossing. And – come on, everyone, say it with me – enemies to lovers.

The Cast

(this book has a much bigger cast and rather than one POV and one main character, there’s six or seven!)

Daisy Dean: softest of the soft, very smol bean, easily flustered and also easily annoyed, hobbies include photography and annoying Riley; superpower: hovering a foot off the ground

Riley Lopez: the Most sarcastic, causes his author a lot of internal screaming because he’s very suave and flirty and we all know those are skills I’m lacking, good at fixin’ stuff, hobbies include guitar, skipping school, and equally annoying the heck outta Daisy; superpower: electricity (spoiler alert that’s not actually a spoiler at all: he’s the villain)

Roman Youngsley: very introverted, carries the weight of everyone in the group, can’t have any physical contact due to his power developing too early and causing pain for all those involved, loves drawing but would rather die than show people his art; superpower: invisibility

Ginnie Waters: unapologetically herself, very stubborn and slightly fiery, still enjoys the monkey bars even though she’s twenty and can touch the ground, talks with her hands a lot, works for an anti-Superhero organization and gives the information back to Roman

Trip Hurst: joined the group later than the rest so often overlooked, very soft but sarcastic sense of humor, will do anything for his family even if that means defecting to the other side for information (*cough* not….that it happens ofc *cough*)

A few of the other reoccurring characters are Alexa, the adopted guardian for most of these disaster children who’s Literally The Worst, Kitt, Daisy’s boyfriend (at least at the beginning), Jaxson, Riley’s best friend who’s a terrible influence, and Blackwell, the leader of the group that riots against anti-Superhero movements and also is The Worst.

The whole novel is just a lot of sarcastic banter, wittiness, and probably not enough plot because I’m too busy dealing with the characters personalities. This book will probably never see the light of sun because I’m writing it purely for fun with zero interest in publishing, so that way it can be as trope-y and weird as I please.

So those are my main two projects I’m currently working on, with a couple others happening in the background. There’s a novel I’m lightly plotting with a friend and one in the back of my head I might do for NaNo 2021, but for now my main priority is TFL!
