"I've been waiting for ages for somebody to unmask them."

This moment tends to elicit negative reactions in a first read through, and I've got some opinions about why where Kabru is coming from here actually makes a lot of logical sense. So I thought I'd elaborate on that.

I think people hear this and go, "He thinks they must be hiding something because they gave money to someone? What a cynic." Or "he dislikes them because they did charity?? What's wrong with this guy!". And obviously, a lot, a lot is wrong with him. But I think this makes more sense than it seems at first glance! What people evaluating this judgement miss is why Kabru is paying attention to Laios and co to begin with.

Kabru knows of the Touden siblings because (he's a little bit of a stalker-) he is keeping an eye on all the relevant parties in events developing on the island, in order to be able to guide them to his preferred outcome. This includes adventurers because they are the ones actually exploring the dungeon! He's well aware that something as minor as internal tensions between party members could be key to the historical events that are developing. (He would love the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.)

His desired outcome is that whatever the rewards are of breaking the dungeon's curse, whether that's kingship or the ancient elven secrets of dungeons, are claimed by:

A) a short lived person

B) Someone who will be a good, effective leader and/or use those secrets and the power they carry wisely, with foresight, and to establish a political bloc for short lived people.

The person he can best trust to do this is, of course, himself. But due to his PTSD regarding dungeons and monsters, he's not able to develop the necessary skills to conquer the dungeon. Once he realises this, he starts looking for someone else who he can support to that end.

But most of the adventurers don't have any intentions of conquering the dungeon, don't have the skills, or are unsuitable in other ways. In fact, it seems like some potentially suitable people are the Toudens. There are a lot of good rumours about them going around - they actually seem to have a very positive reputation! That's what Kabru means when he says "unmask".

So when Kabru is observing something like them giving money to an old comrade from their gold-peeling days, he doesn't consider it a problem because "they're giving money to this person who doesn't actually need it" or because they must have some dark secret if they act superficially nice. I think he actually understands this situation and what it implies about Laios (in particular) perfectly well.

Laios and Falin gave money to an old comrade who got injured and couldn't work. That person then healed up but kept taking their money. Then he used the money to start smuggling illicit goods to the island.

The key is that for Kabru, the problem here is the same as with the corpse retrievers - people using the dungeon's resources to fuel dangerous, selfish, or violent pursuits cause problems for the island, attract more criminals and people with motives other than breaking the curse, and increase the chances of the whole situation ending in tragedy.

Kabru is willing to work with the Shadow Lord of the island if it gets him to his goal - he isn't scrupulous - but the criminal element of the island increasing is something he sees as a major issue.

Also, when you're evaluating someone as a candidate for power, riches, secrets, potentially kingship - then being curious about how the money you give to people is going to be used is kind of a relevant trait!

Interpersonally, Kabru's actually very easygoing - I mean, Mickbell isn't exactly an upstanding guy, is he! But Kabru likes him and they get along well. These traits wouldn't be a problem at all in a friend, or a comrade, or someone Kabru was confident he could use. But he can't get a handle on Laios, and Laios is someone who has the potential to be a major player!

On Laios' end, this is the same as with the marriage seeker who joined their party. She kept asking for things and he gave them to her, because he tries to be nice to others. He even gives her money! It's the exact same thing.

That's fine, but it became a problem because he basically wasn't interested in her motives, didn't notice she was trying to manipulate him, and it also didn't occur to him that the other party members would notice or be affected. We can assume the situation with the gold peeler is the same. When Kabru says that "It's not that they're bad people, they just aren't interested in humans," he isn't wrong.

The extent to which this is true of Laios is linked to his autism imo, (because it isn't just disinterest - he genuinely isn't able to notice nonverbal cues that people are lying to him or have ulterior motives) but to a greater or lesser extent I think it's a very common trait. Most people aren't actually that interested in other people who aren't close to them. Kabru is the weird one here. It isn't an issue except as a leader - which is why we see an immediate comparison to the Island's Lord, because that's how Kabru is evaluating them.

And disinterest in/lack of ability with people to the extent Laios exhibits it, it does, actually, make him a worse leader... it's just that as we see in the story, people can help him out. The rest of the party tell him the marriage seeker is taking advantage of him so he tells her he can't give her special treatment anymore. They're pissed and it's a crisis point - he couldn't have recovered their trust without Marcille and Falin - but that's exactly the point. With Marcille and Falin, he was able to recover their trust.

And he has other good traits that make up for it, such as his intelligence, strategic knowledge, open-mindedness and sense of fairplay.

Kabru doesn't disqualify Laios as a candidate based on what he sees about him from afar, though - he still tries very hard to get close to him, obviously hoping that if he manages he can steer Laios to defeat the dungeon and make up for his lack of people-skills in the aftermath. (Which... he does eventually achieve that goal!) He completely fails until the events of the story, so... definitely I think "They just aren't interested in humans" could also partially be a stung reaction to Laios' complete disinterest in him.

Anyway, that's my read on what exactly Kabru's "issue" with Laios is. Obviously, once he does find out what Laios' true nature is like - about his love for monsters - he develops an entirely new set of fears about Laios' priorities. But since Laios kept that a secret until the start of the story, he has no idea of that yet.

Given all that, I think it's interesting that he says that he doesn't think that the Toudens are suitable to defeat the dungeon, and that he's hoping they'll turn out to be the thieves. As some of his few potential candidates, people who he thinks may play a big role in the island's future, you'd think he'd hope they would be good people!

I suppose it's better, in his eyes, because it means that he's involved in something "interesting". They haven't just had their stuff stolen by regular criminals (boring, puts them further away from his goal) - they've been caught up in the beginning stages of "a historic event". The desperate and dwindling group forgetting morals in their quest to retrieve their lost comrade probably appeals to his sense of melodrama. Because he also just... loves drama.

Despite it being "uglier than anything he was expecting", he still pursues Laios as the person he wants to conquer the dungeon pretty much as soon as it becomes clear that he won't be able to do it himself and they are out of time. That's because... well, to be fair, there aren't any other options. And he fits standard A: he's short-lived!

and Kabru still hopes he can fit standard B, too, and be persuaded to use the power he wins for good. No matter how many nightmares he has about Laios, or whether he thinks about killing him. He doubts him, but ultimately he puts his faith in him and seems happy after the manga's ending that he made the right decision.

Is Islam a Religion of Peace?

Islam was founded upon principles of peace and harmony to establish love, affection and collective responsibility towards the spiritual, physical, and mental wellbeing of all of society. ‘Islam’ a name given by God Almighty to this religion (Qur’an 5:4), is an Arabic word which literally means obedience and peace. ISLAM is derived from the Arabic root “SALEMA” meaning peace, purity, submission and obedience. So ‘Islam’ means the path of those who are obedient to Allah and who establish peace with Him and His creatures. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) defined a Muslim as one whose word or deed cause no harm to others. ‘Peace’ is the greeting of Muslims and ‘Peace’ shall also be the greeting of the dwellers of Paradise.

Hence, any person that does not adhere to these principles of peace, harmony and collective good, is outside the boundary of this definition.

Deeper Dive – Who speaks for Islam?

So, what about all of the negative media rhetoric against this peaceful image of Islam? Well, first and foremost we have to ask who has an authority to speak about what “Islam” is and what it stands for? Is it Media? Is it ISIS? Is it the president of a ‘Muslim’ country? Or the Muslim down the street from you?

None of these. The truth is that when we desire to know what any organization, company, country etc. stand for, we must look at its constitutional document. What any other person says or thinks is irrelevant, and if any person associates their actions towards this constitution, then cross-examination can easily manifest the truth from falsehood.

So, what is this constitution and basis of Islam? It is the following:

The Holy Qur’an (the perfect revealed word of God) Sunnah (practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa)) Passed down through practice, from the time of the Holy Prophet (sa) to present. After a few early decades, some practices were recorded in books. Ahadith (sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa)) Traditions and narrations passed from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) to his companions, and eventually future generations. These have varying levels of authenticity, for which early Muslim scholars developed an entire science of examination. The most important rule to remember is that a narration should not contradict the Holy Qur’an.

DOES THE QUR’AN TEACH PEACE?

The Holy Qur’an is categorical on its teachings about peace, after all, it is the key text of the religion that literally stands for peace. Let’s examine what it says about any and all sort of violence against an innocent person:

Whosoever killed a person – unless it be for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land – it shall be as if he had killed all mankind. (Al Maidah, Ch.5: v. 33)

Explaining this verse, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community states

‘A person who kills a person unfairly or who kills someone who had neither rebelled, nor became a source of violating peace amongst the people nor created disorder in the land, it is as if he has killed the whole of mankind. In other words, to kill a person without any cause is, according to God Almighty, like the murder of the entire human race. It is obvious from this verse, how big a sin it is to take the life of another person without reason.’ (Lecture Chashma-e-Ma’rifat pp 23-24: Commentary by the Promised Messiah Vol.2: p.405)

In fact, he goes even further to state emphatically the need for peace and kindness:

He who abandons kindness abandons religion. The Holy Qur’an teaches that whosoever kills a person without justifiable cause will be as if he has killed the whole world. In the same way, I say that if someone is not kind unto his brother, it is like he has been unkind to the whole world.’ (Al Hakam Vol. 9 No.15 dated 30 April 1905 p.2: Commentary by the Promised Messiah, Vol.2: p.405)

Freedom of Conscious and Religions

Let us look at another core and fundamental pillar established by the Holy Qur’an regarding religious freedom over 14 centuries ago:

لَاۤ اِکۡرَاہَ فِی الدِّیۡنِ There should be no compulsion in religion (2:257)

The Qur’an has given a clear-cut message of religious tolerance and freedom in this verse. Any person that suggests or acts otherwise steps completely against the command of Allah the Almighty and the practice of His Chosen Prophet (sa)

The Holy Qur’an protects freedom of conscious and religion in an extremely lucid and clear manner while stating:

‘It is the truth from your Lord; wherefore let him who will believe, and let him, who will disbelieve.’ (Ch.18:V.30)

Hence, there exists no injunction on any person to be forced or coerced into following Islam in any manner whatsoever. If force had ever been the desire of God Almighty would it have been difficult for Him to compel all of humanity to believe? Absolutely not. It is to this effect that God states in the Holy Qur’an:

‘And if thy Lord had enforced His Will, surely, all who are in the earth would have believed together. Wilt thou, then, force men to become believers?’ (Ch.10:V.100).

Highlighting this crucial verse, Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih V (aa), Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim community, stated in an address:

“This verse clearly states that God, as the Possessor of all Powers, could easily force all people to adopt the same religion; however, He has instead given the people of the world the freedom to choose – to believe or to not believe.” (Address at Houses of Parliament in London, UK on Centenary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in UK 11 June 2013)

This can clearly be seen in the practice and life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) and his companions. When the Banu Nadir were exiled from Madinah when they failed to fulfil their promise to maintain peace. At that time, they also had many children of the Ansar (Muslim inhabitants of Madinah). These children had begun to live amongst the Jews, because in the pre-Islamic days of ignorance, amongst the Arab tribes of Aus and Khazraj, those who had no male children used to pledge that if the next child were born a male, they would make him a Jew. Thus, there were many boys from the Aus and Khizraj tribes who had been handed over to Jewish families. When the Jews of Banu Nadir were exiled because of their transgression, the Muslims wanted to get back their own descendants from the Jews. The Holy Prophet of Islam (sa) refrained them from their action on the very basis that ‘there is no compulsion in religion’ that once you hand over your own son to someone else and that someone else makes your descendant a follower of Judaism, you cannot take him back: he would have to go with the Banu Nadir.

Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih V (aa) describes another incident relating to a slave of Hazrat Umer (ra):

“Then there is the account of a slave of Hadrat Umar (ra) who narrates that although he was a slave of Hadrat Umar (ra), Hadrat Umar(ra) never forced him to become a Muslim. Hadrat Umar (ra) most certainly used to explain to him with love and affection to become a Muslim but the slave would refuse and Hadrat Umar(ra) would only say: There is no compulsion in faith and fell silent after that. Finally, before his death, he set this slave free. Now who can, therefore, say that there is any room for compulsion or causing a breach of peace in Islam?” (A lecture at the Universite D’Abomey-Calavi Cotonou, Benin. 8 Apr. 2004)

Therefore, there should remain no confusion regarding this aspect of Islamic teaching. Islam is against any and all type of compulsion in religion, and lays the accountability of belief at the behest of God Himself. No other entity, organization, structure, or person has any right to do or say otherwise.

LIFE OF THE HOLY PROPHET MUHAMMAD – THE PARAGON OF PEACE

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) is the primary practical exemplar for all Muslims. His practices and sayings are held sacred, after the Holy Qur’an, perhaps there has never existed any other individual who has ever been emulated to this capacity. So, let’s see what his life tells us about whether Islam is a religion of peace or not.

First and foremost, we have the testimony of the Holy Qur’an regarding the preaching efforts of the Holy Prophet (sa) and his burning agony for the guidance of people while focusing entirely on peace:

‘I swear by his repeated cry “O my Lord!” that these are a people who will not believe. Therefore, turn aside from them, and say, “Peace;” and soon shall they know.’ (Ch.43 Vs 89-90)

This verse also states that in response to the Holy Prophet’s(sa) message of peace, his opponents did not only reject his teachings; they even ridiculed and insulted him. Indeed, they went even further and opposed him with enmity and created disorder and strife. Upon all of this the Holy Prophet(sa) pleaded to God that:

‘I desire to give them peace, but they do not give me peace. Leaving that aside they even strive to inflict pain and agony upon me.’

In response, Allah the Almighty consoled him by saying:

‘Ignore whatever they do and turn away from them. Your only task is to spread and establish peace in the world. You should respond to their hatred and transgressions by simply saying “peace be with you” and tell them that you have brought peace for them.’

The Charter of Medina – the First Constitution based on principles of Peace

Prophet Muhammad (sa) actively promoted peace, tolerance and compassion for all non Muslim minorities living in Arabia. He did not simply demand religious tolerance of his followers; his Sunnah was to provide legal and constitutional protections for religious minorities. This is perhaps best illustrated by two historic documents prepared by Prophet Muhammad (sa). The first document is the Charter of Media written in 622 A.D. – a formal agreement between Prophet Muhammad (sa) and all of the significant tribes and families of Medina, including Muslims, Jews and non-Muslim Arabs. Many scholars refer to this document as the first ever written constitution of a nation-state. The Charter of Medina pre-dated the English Magna Carta by almost six centuries.

The Charter consists of 47 clauses which set forth the formation of a sovereign nation state with a common citizenship for all communities. The Charter protects fundamental human rights for all citizens, including equality, cooperation, freedom of conscience and freedom of religion. Clause 25 specifically states that Jews and non-Muslim Arabs are entitled to practice their own faith without any restrictions. In short, the Charter of Medina was the first document in history to establish religious freedom as a fundamental constitutional right.

Then, secondly there is the Charter of Privileges that was granted to the Christian monks of Sinai. Western Islamic scholar, Marmaduke Pickthall, comments on this letter as follows:

“The Charter which Muhammad (sa) granted to the Christian monks of Sinai is a living document. If you read it, you will see that it breathes not only goodwill, but also actual love. He gave to the Jews of Medina, so long as they were faithful to him, precisely the same treatment as to any Muslims. He never was aggressive against any man or class of men . . . The story of his reception of Christian and Zoroastrian visitors is on record. There is not a trace of religious intolerance in any of this.”

What About All the Wars (Jihad) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa)?

So, if the prophet of Islam taught peace, then why did he engage in so many wars? This is often a very naïve question raised against the holy personage of prophet Muhammad (sa), while ignoring the facts of history completely. Let us look at the entire picture.

Makkans, the place of the Holy Prophet’s birth and early preaching, outright rejected the message of the Holy Prophet (sa) to a large extent. The few that followed the prophet of Islam, were heavily persecuted. They were dragged through the streets, starved, cursed, boycotted, and even ripped apart in front of their family members. What was their crime? Simply that they believed in one God, and followed Muhammad (sa).

When the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) had finally established a just and peaceful society in Medinah, the Makkans were furious and vowed to destroy the Muslims. They could not let them live in peace even in Medinah. Hence, God Almighty finally gave permission to the Muslims to fight back in self-defense in the following command:

اُذِنَ لِلَّذِیۡنَ یُقٰتَلُوۡنَ بِاَنَّہُمۡ ظُلِمُوۡا ؕ وَ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ عَلٰی نَصۡرِہِمۡ لَقَدِیۡرُ Permission to fight is given to those against whom war is made, because they have been wronged — and Allah indeed has power to help them

الَّذِیۡنَ اُخۡرِجُوۡا مِنۡ دِیَارِہِمۡ بِغَیۡرِ حَقٍّ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یَّقُوۡلُوۡا رَبُّنَا اللّٰہُ ؕ وَ لَوۡ لَا دَفۡعُ اللّٰہِ النَّاسَ بَعۡضَہُمۡ بِبَعۡضٍ لَّہُدِّمَتۡ صَوَامِعُ وَ بِیَعٌ وَّ صَلَوٰتٌ وَّ مَسٰجِدُ یُذۡکَرُ فِیۡہَا اسۡمُ اللّٰہِ کَثِیۡرًا ؕ وَ لَیَنۡصُرَنَّ اللّٰہُ مَنۡ یَّنۡصُرُہٗ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَقَوِیٌّ عَزِیۡزٌ “Those who have been driven out from their homes unjustly only because they said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ — And if Allah did not repel some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques, wherein the name of Allah is oft commemorated. And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty” (Ch22:V40-41)

Fair-minded commentators have utterly rejected the false barbaric image of early Islamic wars. De L O’Leary, for example, writes:

“History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.” (Islam at the Crossroads, p.8)

Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih V (aa) states regarding this issue while highlighting the need of the time:

The underlying point to consider is that the use of the sword or force is only permissible when a religious war is waged against Islam. In today’s world no one, be it a country or a religion, is physically waging war and attacking Islam on the basis of religion. Thus, it is not justifiable in any way for Muslims to attack any other party, in the name of religion, because this clearly violates the teachings of the Qur’an. )”   (A lecture at the Universite D’Abomey-Calavi Cotonou, Benin. 8 Apr. 2004)

The fact is that the Islamic wars were in self-defense after the Muslims had been pushed beyond all bounds of reason.

After 10 difficult years of fighting to establish religious freedom and peace, the Holy Prophet (sa) returned triumphant and victorious to Makkah. What did he do at this time? Kill his enemies? Destroy their houses and property? No. He proclaimed:

“There shall be no punishment upon any of you for I have forgiven you all.  I am a messenger of love and peace. I have the greatest knowledge of Allah’s attribute of being a ‘Source of Peace’ – He is the One Who gives peace. Thus, I forgive you of all of your past transgressions and I give you a guarantee of peace and security. You are free to remain in Makkah and to freely practice your religion. No one will be compelled or forced in any way.” (Bukhari)

The Holy Prophet readily granted amnesty to his persecutors, the magnanimity of which softened the hardest of hearts. Bitter enemies of the morning became warm friends by midday. Even the most die-hard enemies of Islam could not resist the healing balm so generously and so effectively applied by the Holy Prophet.

Commenting on this conquest of Makkah, the Rev. Bosworth Smith writes:

“Now would have been the moment to gratify his ambition, to satiate his lust, to glut his revenge. Read the account of the entry of Muhammad into Mecca side by side with that of Marins or Sulla into Rome. Compare all the attendant circumstances, the outrages that preceded, and the use made by each of his recovered power and we shall then be in a better position to appreciate the magnanimity and moderation of the Prophet of Arabia. There were no proscription lists, no plunder, no wanton revenge. From a helpless orphan to the ruler of a big country was a great transition, yet the Prophet retained the nobility of his character under all circumstances.” (Muhammad and Muhammadanism)

PEACE IN ALL ASPECTS

Therefore, Islam promised peace and delivered peace. The later fanatical politically fueled agendas of the extremist ‘Muslims’ that we see today have nothing to with Islam. Islam is a complete code of life, and promises to deliver peace in all aspects of life. From individual to family to social to international. No other religion delivers such a complete teaching without falling short on any matter.

Game Changers | Series One Reflection

In March this year I launched an educational podcast series titled Game Changers, with fellow host Associate Professor of Education & Enterprise Dr Phil Cummins. Game Changers is a podcast for those who want to change the game of school. We started Series One with the provocation “What is the purpose of schooling for today?”

When Phil and I started to record this series the coronavirus pandemic had not taken hold. Before I launch into a reflection of Series One I feel it is important to acknowledge and state that during this unimaginable time we find ourselves in, we in education have to be super conscious of our parents and families, who are balancing work, finances, a house and home learning, our remarkable teachers who have demonstrated amazing agility and adaptability like I’ve never witnessed before in my educational career and finally to our students. Who now find themselves without the huge benefit of the physical, on campus community and relationship connectedness that had brought them much psychological safety, certainty and comfort.  

Since then we have seen a new learning paradigm – learning remotely, online, distance, home campus – whatever you wish to call it, actually I prefer continuous learning, because the pandemic has amplified the notion that learning can happen anywhere and anytime. So, we live in interesting times. Coping with the complex changes of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) – but what do we do with this insight? For mine, this podcast has become a sign of our times. This series has confirmed that emotional competency and our inherent humanness is the new knowledge base, in a world that is increasingly automated, with artificial intelligence a more and more prevailing construct. And it has taken a virus for educators across the global to put a spotlight on educational models, amplifying the gulf between a model of schooling that has passed its use by date and a move toward a dynamic learning ecosystem for a new world environment.

It has been a real privilege to be in dialogue with this diverse group of educators and entrepreneurs. I am better for my encounter with their body of work, their passion, their thinking, their unwavering commitment to young people and above all, their humanity. When I think about all eight individuals I am remined of this quote from Parker Palmer’s landmark book, The Courage to Teach, he writes, “The connections made by good teachers are held not in their methods but in their hearts – meaning heart in its ancient sense, the place where intellect and emotion and spirit and will converge in the human self.”

Episode One | Stephanie McConnell

We then started Series One with foundation Principal of the Lindfield Learning Village in Sydney NSW, Stephanie McConnell.

Key learnings – We have to reimagine schooling to best prepare all young people to learn, live, lead and work for their future. And to this end Stephanie spoke about equipping young people with the mindset to thrive. That learning needs to be more around the contexts of young people, therefore relevance a prevailing construct. And that a thriving learning community or village is about true collaboration - learning with and from the local and global community. And that the individual learning pathway is central to the future of schooling.

Episode Two | Yong Zhao

Key learnings – We need to abandon the prescribed factory model. That we currently manufacture scarcity with our industrial model of schooling – life is not about fighting for a few spots. And that adaptive challenges however are less precise, intangible and are usually resolved through a more organic process of trial and error, as we have been witnessing many adaptive teachers during this pandemic. I particularly love that Zhao is strong advocate for students to become drivers of their own future, trusting in each young person to take ownership and agency. Believing each can create their story, for their own future.

Episode Three | Valerie Hannon

Nobel Prize-winning scientist Paul Crutzen first suggested, back in January 2011 in Yale Environment 360 online magazine, that we were living in the Anthropocene, describing the value of this new framing for our current Earth history. He stated “Students in school are still taught that we are living in the Holocene, an era that began roughly 12,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age. But teaching students that we are living in the Anthropocene, the Age of Men [Humans], could be of great help. Rather than representing yet another sign of human hubris, this name change would stress the enormity of humanity’s responsibility as stewards of the Earth. It would highlight the immense power of our intellect and our creativity, and the opportunities they offer for shaping the future.”

Key learnings – For mine, our conversation with Valerie Hannon was brilliant in highlighting that we are in exactly that, The Age of Human. And that we have a responsibility to craft learning communities that understand and embrace this stewardship of earth, where we see ourselves as part of nature, understanding how to live within and with the planet as a whole. It is less about a selfless approach to living and more about place and the other. And that educators and schools have a fundamental role to prepare future generations for this world that awaits.

Episode Four  | Henry Musoma

Key learnings – For mine, this conversation was the reason why I do what I do, teach. Henry reminded us all that authentic learning is a social exchange of the heart and of the mind. He reminded me of two key things:

Self-actualisation - When we do the work and invest in improving ourselves, we evolve all aspects of our being. Then, we take what we’ve learned and share that light and love with the other. This feeling of self-actualisation is worth actively working toward for true personal fulfilment.

For All -  Effective educators leave a legacy, and a tremendous influence on the life of the other. This is a privilege and gift. “Never regard study as a duty but as an enviable opportunity to learn to know the liberating influence of beauty in the realm of the spirit for your own personal joy and to the profit of the community to which your later works belong.” – Albert Einstein. This is the human act of giving. Therefore generosity, love and kindness are not impulsive reactions. They require a profound consciousness and concern for the other.

Episode Five | Catherine Misson

Key learnings – Today’s educational sector calls for adaptive leadership. It is a collaborative change movement that emerges in a non-linear manner from interactive exchanges. School leaders and educational sectors need to wake to the fact that control, order and certainty are fallacies and that agile and adaptive leaders read the patterns of life effectively, moulding themselves to the needs of the moment, the sign of our times. Catherine is one of those leaders who isn’t afraid to agitate for doing schooling differently, always with the wellbeing and dignity of all the centre of her decision making.

Episode Six | Peter Hutton

Key learnings – School leaders need to re-examine the purpose of education for today’s world and ensure that it is based on the facts and emerging predictions about the impact of the exponential change we are currently witnessing. It is our collective responsibility to expose young people to new experiences and possibilities, but if we want them to take charge of their learning, these experiences have to be worthwhile and applicable in the students’ lives… really applicable, not because traditional dogma says they have to know it.

Episode Seven | Madeleine Grummet

Key learnings – Real opportunities exist with private enterprise to partner with schools and educational sectors to codifying curiosity and connect young people to industry-based people. What a dynamic way to accelerate the work of careers practitioners in schools and scale up with entrepreneurs that are focused on empowering young women, across industries that smash gender stereotypes. I always love having a dialogue with wonderful entrepreneurs like Madeleine - because they are forever curious about learning, living, leading and working. So, ask yourself, how do you quench your thirst for curiosity?

Episode Eight | Mark Hutchinson

Key learnings – The heart of the matter is what matters most to Mark and his commitment to the formation of pre-service teachers. He spoke about the importance of congruence and a readiness of pre-services teachers having a greater sense of fit with the ethos of the schools they are joining. Ensuring that the preparation of future teachers to be re-situated in the learning ecologies of their particular practice.

The American marketing guru Seth Godin once said, “The cost of being wrong is less than the cost of doing nothing.” It is time. We can’t do nothing. We must act in creating a schooling model that has an explicit emphasis on the fostering of confidence, competence and character. Having said that, above all, this series has confirmed for me why remaining forever curious, highly adaptive and that when we make a commitment to our own self-efficacy and that of the other, these are all fundamental to thriving in this new world environment.

When we go back to school everything will be different – and it must be different. It is time to focus education on the flow of humanity and the importance of relational connection. And if that’s the construct of the new normal, the new mainstream in schools. A holistic education nurtures a student’s unique talents and shapes their awareness of the broader common good. We need teachers and school leaders who challenge the status quo, embrace diversity of opinion, acknowledge limitations in expertise, seek input, and most importantly who are not only able to as John Dewey as previously stated “learn from experience, but rather learn from reflecting on experience”.

My *current*Relating Framework

“The widespread assumption that ethical behaviour takes the fun out of life is false. In actuality, living ethically ensures that relationships in our lives, including encounters with strangers, nurture our spiritual growth.”

As a result of my disapproval of societal depictions of what good relationships look like and represent, I’ve decided to rip up the script and play an active role in the process of meaning construction. In my solitary moments, I jotted down some of the principles I believe are essential to relating with others in a way that is fruitful, just and consistent with my own personal politics. I will most likely update the list with time but for now, these are the tenet’s that form the Nonconformist Lover Relating Framework:

Individual Autonomy - You are you, I am I.

“Because to take away a man's freedom of choice, even his freedom to make the wrong choice, is to manipulate him as though he were a puppet and not a person.” ― Madeline L'Engle

Autonomy is a complex construct that concerns the regulation of behaviour by the self, or the authorship of one’s behaviour, as opposed to behaviour being controlled by forces perceived as outside the self. When individuals are autonomous, their behaviour is self-organised and self-endorsed, and their actions are experienced as fully voluntary and authentic. The opposite of autonomy is feeling pressured, coerced, or compelled to act by forces or pressures perceived as external to the self.

When navigating interpersonal relationships, it is crucial that as an individual you do not attempt to coerce or control the actions of another. To do that is to disrespect their autonomy, assert ones dominance and sow seeds of inequality. You only has complete control over one’s own actions, that includes deciding not to continue relationships that are not conducive to one’s wellbeing. Rules are coercive, personal boundaries are a necessity.

Reject the desire to pressure or influence others to suit your needs, but experience them and appreciate their individuality, only offering solicited advice that may aid their individual growth. Encourage others to exercise their personal freedom and act authentically, so long as their actions don’t harm others. Do the same and watch how you attract others who share a similar disposition or value yours.

Mutuality - We do, what WE want.

“In contexts of massively unbalanced power, love seeks dispersed and accountable power. Mutuality recognizes common power to give to, receive from, learn from, and challenge. And it aims at common well-being.” ― Cynthia Moe-Lobeda

In this context, mutuality is the degree of correspondence between two individuals perceptions of their commitment to each other and to their relationship, as well as the state of having mutual desires, interests and values. It’s voluntary cooperation. Often times what occurs in relationships are assumed mutualities from both individuals, that is an unspoken belief that the other person has the same desire, interest, values or intention to commit as you. The unspoken nature of assumed mutualities often times becomes a bone of contention.

There are many conventional assumed mutualities, such as communication frequency, co-habitation plans or leisure time. Things that people who like each other “should“ do. Aim for a more intentional, organic mutuality, that is doing things out of a clear shared desire for it instead of out of duty/obligation. This allows a genuine appreciation for each others time or commitment as it comes out of sheer desire - no arm twisting involved.  When individuals perform relationships off of societal scripts, they’re given the power to coerce and reprimand individuals for not acting the part i.e being “a good partner“ or “a good friend”. Such actions strip individuals of their individuality and attempt to box them with the power invested by societal norms.

No assumptions should be made about the nature of a relationship. Making explicit, conscious agreements can be useful or even mandatory for relationships that involve actual outside responsibilities, minors or dependencies, otherwise they are almost always unnecessary and burdensome. If an individual does something for you that you enjoy once or a couple times and is no longer consistent, remember that their actions or consent are not ongoing rights. You can speak to them about your concerns but at the end of the day you aren’t entitled to their time or commitment. If they are interested in doing the things you’d like to do with them, then you are on the same pages which is great. If they do not have the desire to do certain things they are well within their right not to and it is up to you to either respect that and fulfil your desires by other means. It is wise practice, allowing you to infer the qualities of an individual off of their voluntary actions vs actions they do out of duty.

Intersubjectivity - I try to see what you see.

“Walk with me for a while, my friend—you in my shoes, I in yours—and then let us talk.” ― Richelle E. Goodrich,

In this context, having an intersubjective attitude involves having an interest in, attunement to and responsiveness to the subjective, inner experience of another individual, both at a cognitive and affective level. While empathy is generally the ability to understand and share feelings with another, intersubjectivity attempts to understand reality from that persons point of view. To do this involves paying attention to how another interprets reality and responds to situations, although your analysis will always be to some extent skewed by your own subjective reality. The aim is an appreciation of the wholeness of the other person with a special awareness of the other’s subjective experience, allowing you to better understand, empathise with and be considerate of another - widening your personal worldview.

Intersubjectivity is key to really understanding how you’re actions may affect an individual and ways you can accommodate them. Adopting this practice protects the marginalised and the individuality of others. The best way to develop an intersubjective attitude is to ask another questions about how they emotionally, intellectually and factually perceive different situations, to learn about their background and what impinges upon them, to imagine the world that they exist in and how it affects them. Speak to them about it and show nonjudgemental responsiveness to encourage emotional safety and intimacy.

Self-awareness and emotional self-disclosure is crucial too. You must also be aware of your own subjective nature and have the willingness and ability to reveal your own inner states to the other person, make your needs known,  share your thoughts and feelings, giving the other access to your subjective world.

The key is to not assume you know an individual, but to be intentional in getting to know them. You can never fully know why another person does what they do. When you only see others and how they act through your own subjective lens, how their actions affect you and without empathy, you are prone to project onto them and develop narcissistic traits that can become psychologically abusive.

Humanise - I perceive you as human.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” ―Brené Brown

To humanise, as a weak antonym for objectifying, describes a behaviour or process that appreciates the individuality of and in others. It is the viewing and treatment of other persons as if they possess the same mental, emotional and physical capacities, and agency that we enjoy as human beings. We recognise others as three-dimensional individuals, and therefore have regard for their feelings, rights, needs, boundaries, well-being and lives. To humanise someone is also to refuse objectifying and categorising them based off of their differences be it religion, race, culture, nationality, disability, beliefs, lifestyle, sex, gender identity, socioeconomic status.

To humanise others you have to recognise them autonomous individuals, develop intersubjectivity and emotional empathy in order to perceive them as complex thinking-feeling human beings. Another human being is not a replaceable tool that exists merely to take care of your needs, you do not own them, they are not an object of discharge of instinctual impulses, you are not in the best position to make decisions/speak for them or deny them of their autonomy, their boundaries are not something you can dance around or break into. To do this is to oppress another by unjustly exercising power or authority over them.

Through dealing with others with empathy, concern for their experiences and feelings, and an active interest in what makes them a different, complex person you develop the capacity to allow the differences in others and ultimately to value and encourage those qualities which make that person different and unique. You suppress the knee-jerk reaction to judge others according to your or societal ideals and develop the ability to aid those in need.  

Solitariness - I enjoy my own company.

“But many of us seek community solely to escape the fear of being alone. Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.” ― bell hooks

Solitariness refers to the quality of being apart from others. One that is desired and sought for, as opposed to loneliness that is isolation accompanied by the longing for company. Solitariness a positive state, it is a type of chosen aloneness, during which personality development and creativity may arise. In this state, the individual is not avoiding social interaction due to social anxiety or preference. They enjoy the experience of alone time and can use it to explore themselves.

Recognising that time alone is not only okay but necessary and fruitful, is it step towards ensuring that you are in control of your own well-being. Solitariness goes hand in hand with autonomy and both are essential to developing self-sufficiency. Being committed to your own care and equipping yourself with the material necessities, emotional tools and affirmation are essential to creativity and engaging with others in totality. When the important people in your life have their own things going on, you aren’t overcome with loneliness or resentful because you also have your own life to live. It’s about cultivating your own living compass.

There is a wild difference between interacting with others out of perpetual need and needing the support of others when in trouble. The former indicates that you use those interactions, as bell hooks puts it, “as a means of escape”, while the latter is sign of the ability to ask for help from a good support system. It may come easier to others but experiencing wholeness alone over relying on others to either constantly affirm you or complete you is something you should strive for.  It is the only way you can protect yourself from the inevitable side effects of interacting with people who are human.

Compersion - Your joy brings me joy.

“Jealousy is not a barometer by which the depth of love can be read, it merely records the degree of the lover’s insecurity.” – Margaret Mead

Compersion is a relatively new word that’s yet to make an appearance in mainstream dictionaries, but it describes a feeling that many of us experience. Compersion describes an “empathetic state of happiness and joy brought about by knowing or witnessing the happiness and joy of another individual”, specifically when the source of their pleasure does not come from you. It’s most common usage is in the nonmonogamous community when describing the positive feelings an individual can experience when a lover is enjoying another relationship. An antidote to jealousy some say.

Compersion operates on a foundation of emotional security and altruism. As an aromantic and someone who can’t really recall experiencing jealousy, compersion comes to me relatively easily. Through conversations with others who have rather opposite inclinations, I noticed a stark difference in our subjective perception of reality and interpersonal relationships:

The Comparison/Competitive – Curious/Connective Mode Polarity: This is a quasi-theory I conjured up to attempt to understand disparities between individuals and their experience of compersion. An individual who is primarily on comparison/competitive mode struggles to feel true happiness for others because they fall in the trap of comparing themselves to and creating competition between them and the source of another’s pleasure. On the other hand, an individual who is primarily on curious/connective mode is more excited at the prospect of learning about this new source of pleasure and how it pleases the other, as well as the potential opportunity to also connect with this source of pleasure. While one worries needlessly about being replaced or not “measuring up” as though they were an object, the other lives vicariously through the another knowing that every relationship exists between humans who are unique and incomparable.

Treating relationships as zero-sum game where if one is winning, the other is losing is another way surefire way to ice out compersion. If your knee jerk reaction to seeing another experience joy is to think “this isn’t fair, I want that too“ then developing a sense of selflessness is in order. In addition, examining your abundance-scarcity mindset is helpful. By believing that there is an abundance of people that you too can form fruitful relationships with, seeing others enjoy theirs shouldn’t trigger a scarcity panic.

While compersion does present as a positive feeling, this can only ring true in situations that are not riddled with injustices and don’t contribute to the oppression of an individual or another group. This brings me to the next tenet.

Indignation - I see injustice and I address it.

“Anyone can get angry, but to do this to the right person, to the right extent, at the right time, with the right motive, and in the right way, that is not for everyone, nor is it easy.”

― Aristotle

Indignation is a trickier one to navigate. Indignation is a reactive emotion to anger over perceived mistreatment, insult, or malice. It is related to a sense of injustice. It may also refer to a morally right or justifiable decision or action or to an action which arises from an outraged sense of justice or morality. How legitimate or fair your indignation is is dependent on whether your concern is for the genuine welfare of others or if your outrage is rooted in your own subjective beliefs.

To demonstrate, from "Ethics According to Aristotle & Kant" : "If I see a bigger boy beating up on a small child, I feel indignant; I think what he is doing is wrong. It would be wrong for me and it is wrong for him. On the other hand, if another person is merely ill-mannered or foolish, I might be annoyed or even angry, but I don't feel indignation. The word indignation implies a sense of right and wrong." Theres a "sharp distinction between the moral and the merely prudential. What is moral is what I am strictly obliged to do, whether I like it or not. It has nothing to do with my inclinations and desires, but is simply my duty. The prudential, he says, is based on my own inclinations and desires." When are we fighting for collective welfare and freedom or just our own?

A sense of injustice is necessary because what we often find in interpersonal relationships is we’re faced with situations where we see maltreatment, not just happening to ourselves but being carried out by others to others and, being carried out by ourselves. Situations where someone is being wronged, exploited or oppressed. In order to create the just world we all (I assume) want to exist in, we have to be prepare to identify and address the injustice we see around us and perpetuated by us. Sometimes this requires compassion. It requires reflexion and a desire for restorative justice. *unfinished*

True freedom of religion implies freedom from religion. If it doesn’t it’s not freedom. That’s why an authentic democracy cannot exist under the influence of any religious sect. A religion that preaches that born-again believers will be “raptured” up to heaven while the rest of us go straight to hell is more necrophile hate doctrine than religion, and it has no place anywhere near government circles. Yet, these Evangelicals and Pentecostals are President Trump’s people and he has created posts in the White House for them and facilitated their influence on the government of the United States.

That’s not a certainty, mind you, but it’s a very real possibility. Do we really want to confront it? What’s in it for us? I only foresee one benefit and that’s the re-election of President Donald J. Trump. Come to think of it, I’m not sure that’s a benefit. Are you a hard-core optimist? You might console youself by considering that, when the Third World War does come, it won’t last long.

There’s even more horror. The person that President Trump has appointed to guide America’s  foreign policy, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, is one of the born-again Rapture brigade. Does this mean that his–and your–foreign-policy agenda is driven by his sincere Evangelical beliefs regarding biblical end times and how to jump start them? Yes, that’s exactly what it means. Can you live with that?

Is this the sort of intellectual baggage that American parents want funneling into their children’s heads? Parents in the US are entitled to take that route. It’s a free country and freedom of religion is a laudable principle up to the point where it puts a majority of American citizens in harm’s way. It makes no difference whether that harm comes from a nuclear holocaust radiating from the Holy Land or from a global virus pandemic. Then a sane, responsible lay government must intervene in order to save the very country. The failure to do so would have consequences and they could well be catastrophic.

Are we already beginning to see the onset of that process? It’s March 25, 2020. In just a matter of weeks we should be able to discern the results of President Trump’s recent determination that the country should soon be “open for business.”  How can the President pretend to know at this point what the extension and gravity of the virus will be, even in the short term. Public health professionals and other scientists are admitting that they can’t make predictions without seeing the results of massive testing programs. Clearly, the President can’t, either. And, given his obligation to promote good health and wellbeing for all Americans, to pretend that he can foresee the future is so wittlessly irresponsible that we might consign it to the category of religion. Then it would be up to a second impeachment panel to decide whether the President should be tried for criminal wittless irresponsibility.

Where Do They Go from Here?

If the United States had a sane and responsible governing team with a vision that went beyond their own enrichment and re-election, at this point in contemporary history they would still be in deep trouble. There are just too many life and death issues on the table at this time: COVID-19, their overt and covert wars around the world, their apocalyptic economic situation, their penchant for cultivating enemies around the world and the meteoric rise of some of their adversary countries. Asia is beginning to look quite first world lately while the US is clearly slipping.

But, since the US conspicuously lacks the necessary sanity and responsibility in government where they are destined to go from here is anyone’s guess. The best we can do is just to lie down and enjoy the spectacle. Our current situation can best be summed up by a millenary Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.

I’m sorry to hear this storyline’s making you feel down, though. I know a lot of people are feeling this way, and I have to admit I was feeling pretty down after Tuesday’s episode myself. Although I haven’t been on tumblr that long, I’ve been with Robron from the beginning too (lifelong ED viewer and Robron are my favourite characters individually) and, as you say, it’s not the worry of whether Robron will make it through - because we know they will - but how. And how it will feel to us, because it has come to mean so much to all of us. I feel like my own positivity has been revived after tonight’s episode, though, so I hope at some point the same can happen for you.

The main reason I’m clinging onto hope of The Theory (or some variation of) is because I refuse to believe ED has suddenly become this uncharacteristically predictable, clichéd and messy. As I say, I’ve watched ED for a long time and this just doesn’t feel like them. There’s a lot of holes in the plot, as so many people have pointed out, but more than that it just feels like it’s lacking the depth and substance that we’re used to. It’s almost like the whole storylining and writing team couldn’t agree on the direction of the plot so they went on strike, and were hastily replaced with people who are now having to get to grips with that and the characters. Because that’s how inconsistent it feels right now, as much as it pains me to admit that. It doesn’t make any sense, and that’s why I just can’t accept it. Not yet, anyway. But I completely acknowledge that it may just be my long-term loyalty to, and love for ED in general that means I have too much faith in them, maybe. (I hope not, because I find that prospect more disappointing than the actual storyline, really.) But that still doesn’t change the fact that there is something missing, and just really random things - clues, even - that must surely be connected..?

There’s the silence. The silence is odd.If the storyline was really going the way the narrative is leading us to believe, and the fandom was falling into disrepair with many choosing to stop watching the show altogether, surely there would be some message to placate the fans? They were more than happy to put a placating tweet out when the fandom was stressing over the spoilers, so why not now the storyline has actually become fact? Unless it isn’t fact… Unless there is something more… Unless there is a twist… And the fact that we haven’t had any quotes from Emily or Ryan, or even Danny, is extremely odd. All right, maybe there will be quotes from Danny and Ryan with the reveal - but that would imply the reveal is the big part of this storyline, not the pregnancy. I honestly think it is this silence which is making us all find this situation so perturbing. We’ve grown used to ED interacting with the fandom. And maybe it had become too intense and the lines had become somewhat blurred, but to go from continuous - almost non-stop - interaction with the fans to nothing? That’s a major factor in why we’re all finding this storyline so unsettling. And I can’t really understand the two extremes - unless something big is underway?

The pacing is just ridiculous - are we honestly supposed to expect a storyline this fast-paced to go on for months? I can’t see it, myself. Then there’s the actual narrative itself. We could discuss The Theory and what even may or may not have happened on the night of The Incident until we’re blue in the face. The fact is, things still don’t add up there. And probably won’t until the final pieces of the puzzle slot into place - if they do. But even beyond that, there’s holes. Rebecca’s adamant it’s Robert’s, fine. I’m not even going to bother discussing that. But we’re slowly getting to see more of what’s going on in her head, but vitally, we have never once been shown any of the action from her perspective. There’s a complete difference between seeing her emotions and seeing her point of view, and I’m wondering if this is intentional? We’ve found out about what she’s been through in the past; it’s now abundantly clear that there’s more than one reason she can’t just let go of Robert. Crucially, aside from Rebecca’s scenes with Ross and Vic, we’re seeing the whole of this storyline from Robert’s point of view. And that gives me hope - that potentially this is leading to the breakdown that so many of us want to see because it’s what he needs for his emotional development as a character. And that fills me with even more hope about what I believe is the whole point of this storyline. Because the one thing that has been indisputably clear throughout this storyline while the rest of the plot has become hazy, is the reaffirmation of Aaron and Robert’s overwhelming dependency on each other. Their entire happiness and wellbeing depends solely on each other. We’ve seen it in so many ways, even the counselling session where Aaron couldn’t stop looking at Robert. He needed him, he takes his strength from him, and the suggestion of doing something he enjoys or which makes him happy simply made him think of Robert. Because his happiness is entirely dependent on that man. And while I know many are unhappy with the inconsistent writing of Robert and feel like his wondrous character development is in jeopardy, I have to disagree with some of the thoughts on this. Yes, I have some concerns at times because I love this Robert, I love Aaron’s Robert. But to me, what we’re seeing with his behaviour now is his dependency on Aaron. The idea that Robert might lose Aaron? The one person he’s ever needed himself? The one person who enables him to be himself and like himself? It’s unthinkable to him, and he’ll do “whatever it takes” to stop that from happening. Because nothing has ever mattered more to him than Aaron. And he does keep trying to change, to be better, because he wants to be the man that Aaron makes him feel capable of being, truly the best version of himself. And fundamentally, I believe this is the point. We’ve seen the boys can’t cope without each other, at all. We’ve seen that they’re both literally only half a man without the other. I believe the point of this whole thing is to break them down and establish who they are on their own so they can then work out who they are together. They’re both incredibly complex, multi-faceted, three-dimensional characters, but I believe the difference is the audience (general, of course) is able to understand Aaron better. They’re able to sympathise and empathise with him. With Robert, it’s not that easy. Aside from his own idiosyncrasies of bottling up his emotions and never allowing his true intent beneath all the layers to match what we see on the surface, Robert’s characterisation has been inconsistent since his return in 2014. He was, essentially, brought back in as a two-dimensional villain. The show has gradually - and authentically, I feel - fleshed him out as a three-dimensional character. However, a certain level of inconsistency remains in that we’ve primarily only ever been allowed to see one side of Robert at a time. So I genuinely believe - whatever direction this goes in - the aim is to break Robert (and probably Aaron) down and rebuild him, showing us that all of his complexities co-exist, just like Aaron’s. To make them equal as individuals, characters and within their relationship. And then to rebuild that relationship on stronger (and healthier) foundations than those built during an affair, marking the beginning of a whole new era of Robron 2.0.

I don’t know how the Rebecca thing will go, whether there will be a baby or not. We can argue a case either way - because there are still options (yes, multiple) for twists. Like I said, we haven’t seen anything from her perspective. We didn’t see her take the test - could she have faked it? We didn’t see her inside the clinic, but we saw her outside so why not show us that scene?? Unless there’s something else going on… The month comment was weird, I don’t know how it works but having seen this situation portrayed in ED before I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the case with Kerry or any other female character… Maybe she isn’t pregnant. Maybe she’s further along than she thought. Ross made a comment to Pete “You’ve never been good with maths” while looking at Rebecca’s name on his phone - maybe this was a sign? And then there’s the Adam theory if anyone’s still into that… Out of the three young couples, the only person who wasn’t there for the reveal, who doesn’t know, who happened to find the test and think it was his wife’s, whose said wife hasn’t yet told him that the test wasn’t hers and is actually Rebecca’s, who we’ve seen apologising to his wife etc etc., is Adam. Who knows, there might be something in that yet. Particularly now Ross is out of the equation, so it would actually be a triangle…

There’s so much more I haven’t even mentioned, but I realise this has got ridiculously long and I don’t even know if my ramblings are remotely helpful to you?? So sorry haha! All I would say in regards to the future of Robron is that while my faith may waver occasionally over ED and the plotty storylines, I 100% believe in the magic that Danny and Ryan create. And I wrote a post to this effect after The Incident, but while Danny and Ryan are still doing what they do best, I don’t believe that magic is going to go anywhere. And I do believe Robron will get through this, stronger than ever. Ultimately though, we all have to do what’s best for ourselves - whether it’s taking a step back from the fandom or the show in general, surrounding ourselves with like-minded blogs on here, draining ourselves by trying to work out what on Earth this plot is, or just plain old living in denial and theories.
