The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (2022, my first cdrama, damn the ppl who brought this one down, will probably rewatch because now I get more about the cdrama tropes they subvert, Li Jiaqi hopefully will get more main roles despite this debacle)

Love Between Fairy and Devil (2022, tumblr loves it for good reason, so good, well written and gorgeous costumes and scenery, I laughed, I cried, I shaked my fist at communication failures, learned to like Yu Shuxin's voice, who doesn't like a story about a demon lord who lost all his emotions and regains them with the help of a cute fairy, cultivation in several senses xD, some songs made it to my spotify 100 most played songs of 2022 list, will rewatch now that it is on Netflix)

Word of Honor (2021, the hype has a reason it is so goood, started out not liking WKX, how the tables turned, hahahaha, side characters who rock, morally grey main characters yay, "A'Shuuuu", you don't need on screen kisses to feel the love, character dump was confusing as hell, somehow missed that WKX is also boss of Ghost Valley in the beginning bc of that. 🤣🙈 Taught me to rewatch the first episode a little bit into the drama to actually get what's going on when there are a lot of characters.)

Old Fashion Cupcake (2022, my first jdrama, cute office romance about finding joy in life again, will make you hungry)

The Rational Life (2021, watch it if you want soft, caring, loyal WH but it is actually about Qin Lan's character overcoming bullying at work and being a model employee in a car company (and promoting e-cars 😄), could have been shorter)

The Blue Whisper (2022, wrecked me with all the suffering but so good and pretty, Ren Jialun going from cutiepie to badass, rocking his ear jewellery, red flags but you ship them anyway, Diliraba and Guo Xiao Ting, another talk it out already yelling at the screen drama, going from hating SML and his attendand to pitying them, LuoLuo 🫶, side characters you will root for, some songs made it to my spotify 100 most played songs of 2022 list, story is by the author who wrote LbFaD, not set in the same universe)

The Romance of Tiger and Rose (2020, Zhao Lusi the Queen, much needed comedy after TBW, loved it, nothing like a writer caught in her own badly written drama world trying to rewrite it while the rules of the world she wrote fight against the rewrites. Su Mu and First Lady just needed to talk to each other aaaargh)

Who rules the World (2022, find yourself a person who looks at you like Hei Fengxi looks at Bai Fengxi, geez Yang Yang, Zhao Lusi is a delight in this, they wrote the two lead characters too perfect??, draws you in with wuxia, gives you a lot of palace drama, including emo first prince who deserved more screen time but they ran out of ideas for him, Writing, editing and fight scenes got worse in the 2nd half of the drama, I guess because the director had to leave, needed to give more side characters a life, the sismance is perfect)

The Untamed (2019, watching to be finished in 2023, I was intimidated by the amount of characters and episodes so only started watching late in the year and am glad I waited because now I know wuxia storytelling better and can fully enjoy it, taught me that you don't need great cgi, sets or fight scenes to tell a compelling story, Wang Yibo 🥹, Xiao Zhan 😼, great side characters)

Semantic Error (2022, my first kdrama, watched it because of this and was not disappointed, enemies to lovers at university, cute quick watch)

The Blood of Youth (2022/2023, just started, the character dump is a lot but it is a romp so far, despite the kinda choppy writing/editing, also geez Youku those youtube subtitles are too fast for my tired eyes)

As someone who enjoys series/movies like the UK North and South, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice, etc, where a small touch or little gestures can already be a big deal, slow burn romances in cdrama fit me perfectly. (The barbie kisses are something to get used to though. Props to Wang Hedi and Yu Shuxin who went for organic kisses once the feelings hit their characters.)

The Yueyang Sect is closely guarded. There are constant patrols around. There are also many martial arts masters in the city. I never thought Ghost Valley would cause such a stir. WOH, episode 8. In front of one of the buildings, a man praises the performance of the Western Province Band, saying that it is a rare opportunity. WKX, walking with ZZS, hears this announcement and asks if ZZS has seen magic tricks from the West. ZZS looks up. WKX says why they are beheading a beautiful lady with daggers. The man continues to praise the magic show, giving us live admission for a handful of coppers. Those interested approach the entrance, the man claims that everyone will be impressed. WKX suggests ZZS watch the show because he has never seen anything like it. Without a word, ZZS looks closely at WKX, who tells them to come in because FBZ may be inside. Without waiting for an answer, WKX pulls ZZS inside. There is a show going on inside, dancers are dancing to the rhythm of the music, and WKX and ZZS are sitting at one of the tables. ZZS is still silent, looks at the laughing WKX and smiles too. Music sounds around and women dance. WKX says this exotic performance is unique. ZZS does not respond. However, he is looking at the person playing the zither. WKX is paying attention. WKX responds that they should wait to see what he presents. A wardrobe is placed on the stage, two men open it and turn it around, showing the audience the empty interior. WKX and ZZS watch in silence. One of the dancers enters this closet. Both men close the wing and rotate it around its axis again. They then insert the swords into the holes that go through the wardrobe. The gathered crowd claps and shouts loudly, the men turn the wardrobe over again and after a moment draw their swords. ZZS sits and watches without saying a word, but he has a feeling that something might happen. After a while, sashes with inscriptions fall from the floor and demonic laughter can be heard. A terrifying voice congratulates the upcoming Heroes' Conference of the Five Lakes Alliance, the men open a wardrobe and severed human heads fall out. A voice loudly announces that these are ten human heads as a sign of Ghost Valley's goodwill. Terrified spectators ran out of the building. ZZS notices that the zither player has disappeared. A group of students from the Yueyang Sect run in, their leader orders the arrest of two men, and then notices the heads lying there. A curious crowd has gathered outside, but Yueyang Sect disciples ask people not to panic. The commander promises that the sect will investigate what happened here. WKX and ZZS stand in the distance and listen to this speech. The sect student adds that under the leadership of the GC, they will find the perpetrators of the crime and hold them accountable. Immediately after this, another group of officials appears and pays tribute to the sect's disciples. WKX states that the Yueyang Sect is stronger than the feudal officials. ZZS looks at WKX, who adds that GC has not left this world and they already treat him as an immortal. ZZS claims that the GC sect is closely guarded and there are constant patrols around it. ZZS explains that there are many martial artists in the city and he didn't think that the Valley of Spirits would dare to cause a stir. WKX responds that this is an insult to the GC who has lost face and Ghost Valley has put a lot of effort into humiliating the Yueyang Sect. He asks ZZS if he thinks this is just the beginning. ZZS doesn't react, he just thinks intensely. WKX asks if he's worried about ZCL, and ZZS asks since when he had a student. WKX asks why ZZS doesn't want to admit that he have a student and suggests that they visit ZJ and meet GC. ZZS doesn't know that WKX intentionally brought him on this show to show ZZS the power of Ghost Valley. He also wanted to know ZZS's reaction to what would happen during the performance. In his own way, WKX reveled in what he had planned and that GC and his sect were humiliated. ZZS still doesn't know exactly how many parties are interested in Glazed Armor, and+

[1] 家生奴才 (jiā shēng nú cai): refers to the children born to servants and had to also serve their master’s family

[2] continuing with the servant analogy, wkx refers to zzs here as 您老 (nín lǎo). 您 is a very respectful way of saying “you” (你), and together with 老 (lǎo) meaning “old”, is to address someone old and highly respected.

[3] 竹叶青 (zhú yè qīng) and 女儿红 (nǚ ér hóng) are both real Chinese wines. 竹叶青 literally means “bamboo leaves green” and 女儿红 literally means “daughter red”. Their beginnings can be traced to the Northern & Southern Dynasties (420-589 AD) and Jin Dynasty (266-420 AD) respectively. 女儿红 in particular comes from Shaoxing city in Zhejiang province (in eastern China)

Story behind 竹叶青 “bamboo leaves green” (*this is only one out of the two legends behind this wine’s name origin):

Legend has it that a long time ago, the wine stores in Shanxi (a province in northern China) would have an annual wine festival, where all the wine stores will present their new wines and rank the best. Although there was a wine store that had been making wine for generations, its wines were always subpar and it would always be one of the last in ranking.

That year, the store owner, knowing that his wine was not good and not wanting to lose face, told his two assistants that he would go to the wine festival first and they were to only go later.

That day was particularly hot and the two assistants were drenched in sweat. As they were walking through a bamboo forest, they decided to stop and find something to drink. But they were in the middle of nowhere and couldn’t find even a single stream! They ended up drinking from the wine they carried, and before they knew it, they had drunk half of the wine.

Eventually, as they continued walking, they found a very small stream at the foot of some tall green bamboo trees. They scooped the water from the stream with bamboo leaves to fill up the wine pots, and strangely enough, even though the stream was small, they managed to fill the pots to the brim.

They reached the wine festival just as it was about to finish. The store owner distributed the wine to the other store owners, who were all surprised and taken aback. The store owner tasted the wine for himself and discovered that it was fresh and crystal clear. The wine ended up winning the first place.

The assistants eventually told everything to the store owner and they brought him to the bamboo forest. The store owner bought the piece of land and moved his shop there. He built a well and diligently improved his distillation process. Eventually, he managed to refine a wine so good its fame spread far and wide, naming it “bamboo leaves green”. Story behind 女儿红 “daughter red”:

Once upon a time, there was a tailor in Shaoxing city. One day, he discovered that his wife was pregnant. Elated, he excitedly rushed home and brewed a few pots of wine in preparation to host his good friends on his son’s one month old birthday. This tailor had a mindset of favouring male over female children, but his wife unexpectedly gave birth to a baby girl. So when his daughter turned a month old, the pots of wine were not taken out and left buried under the osmanthus tree.

Time passed and his daughter grew up into a smart young lady who inherited his skills, and she eventually was proposed to by the tailor’s disciple. As he happily arranged for his daughter’s marriage, the tailor suddenly remembered the pots of wine under the osmanthus tree from some ten odd years ago. He dug them back out to serve the guests, and the second the pots were opened, everyone could smell the wine’s thick fragrance, and the wine itself was especially excellent. And so, this wine was called “daughter red” wine (T/N: “red” is an auspicious colour associated with marriage in Chinese culture).

Eventually, it became a custom for families to bury pots of wine whenever baby girls were born, so that they could dig the pots out to serve their guests when their daughters got married in the future. (translated from baidu)

[4] wkx says 好嘞 (hǎo lei) here which I’ve translated as “alright”. 嘞 in particular is an auxiliary word that has no particular meaning in itself, but when said together with 好, it indicates that someone has agreed to something or agreed to do something very happily. One context in which it appears very commonly in period dramas, is when staff at a restaurant or inn agree to a customer’s request or order. So this is wkx continuing with the running joke of attending to master zzs lol :p

And the Five Lakes Alliance is (was?) trying to establish supremacy over the martial arts world, but there are dozens of other smaller sects that are resisting? And assassin clans and rouge cultivators are also getting involved all over the place? And the Ghosts are the martial arts world’s outcasts? And I still haven’t figured out how ZZS’s master fits into all this, but he is a prince, which is a separate institution of power (I guess), like in NiF? 🤔

Also, I still don’t know exactly what this armour they are all after is, but it is clearly some magical artefact that gives you superhuman power and which has now been shattered into several pieces that each of the players is trying to put together for their own benefit.

7/7) either the lady who hunts unfaithful men for sport or the guy known for murdering people on whims and that one time he skinned a man alive. so AX can browbeat Lovelace and snap at Ghoul and walk through the world without fear b/c what could she possible fear? until her heart gets involved, which is equally terrifying for WKX b/c he hasn’t a single clue how to be human either or what to do with his own hearts involvement but I think that’s a topic for another ask set, this one’s long enough

Yeah, I think trust was the wrong word to use, but as you said he knows she protects the girls of Ghost Valley and that makes her the most likely person to help keep GX safe regardless of his feelings. And there's definitely going to be resentment going on on his side for the fact that she didn't protect ZY, but then there's the idea of WKX trading on his monstrosity and now LFM is negotiating with him which is kind of the reverse of his value judgement. He wasn't worthy of protection then but he's worthy of making deals now?

That's a great point though about a trade being safer than owing someone a favour. In his eyes everyone wants something, the question is whether it's a price worth paying (and given what, as you said, it probably cost him to claim GX he knows how high that price can be). Protecting her girls in exchange for his is fair and nobody owes anybody anything after that, he's not trapped into something to regret later.

And that means GX has grown up with the most terrifying brother/father figure and the most terrifying auntie in the Ghost Valley and can be loud and brash and annoying in absolute safety because no-one will touch a hair on her head and risk their vengeance. They've succeeded in giving her that, and while humanity might still be uncharted waters her and WKX still have time to learn.

aside from the fact that I lose my goddamn mind every time I think of the “save it/you’re my person” scene and that I do, in fact, love shl with all my wretched goblin heart despite its flaws and the last five episodes or so... what if.

what if, instead of a Romeo&Juliet situation, we had an Achilles&Patroclus situation??

(I’m obviously pretending that scenario is not another tragedy in itself too, bc science)

let me elaborate:

ZZS knows WKX and his every little quirk, habit and move;

ZZS happens to be a master of disguise, as we know;

ZZS takes WKS’s place at the siege (which can be a somewhat satisfying outcome for the foreshadowing of ep.13);

WKX was forced to sleep through it all thanks to a slow but inevitable drug concocted by Wu Xi’s and that ZZS gave WKX before his departure for ghost valley (ZZS also asked GX and CWN to follow WKX secretly to keep him safe while unconscious, but didn’t explain anything else to them, not wanting them to meddle or impulsively participate in the siege and risk their lives);

(WKX had already planned with ZCL for the kid to fake-kill him on the cliff, but ZZS doesn’t know this bc it happened when he was too busy being sexy and bloody while he was captured in Jin);

(WKX had already obtained YBY’s permission to stage the whole thing at the cliff, but ZZS doesn’t know this either for the reasons stated above);

(WKX agrees to help WX while they talk in ghost valley, but soon after his talk with auntie LFM he falls asleep);

YBY knows he is not fighting against WKX but understands why ZZS is doing this and keeps going to keep the pretense up;

ZCL doesn’t understand the person in front of him is ZZS (only bc ZZS imitates WKX so well) and fake-kills him anyway;

ZZS (as WKX) falls down the cliff;

WKX wakes up and discovers he is officially considered to be dead;

WKX is technically free to leave with ZZS if he so wishes, but ZZS is nowhere to be found and he panics;

ZZS had planned to give WKX a way out from jianghu without any more vengeance nor bloodshed and was even willing to die for him by falling down the cliff if that were the case, but he had discovered ZCL’s dart was a fake one and he takes some time recuperating after the fall and hides somewhere;

while everyone is looking for the body and the key, WKX and GX (along with CWN and ZCL) look for ZZS in a race against time;

XW thinks WKX has bolted and didn’t keep his word, so he gives up on the whole plan to see his adoptive father rise just to get him to lose everything in the end, BUT he has already found the witness DK and keeps him around just in case (???);

ZJ gets impatient and somewhat reveals his true colors while they search for a body + XW finally sees through his adoptive father’s bullshit when ZJ publicly denies their affiliation and walks away** from him after revealing he has seen the poisoned weapon used against RX + he brings out the witness DK and reveals he was the one drugging him to become a puppet to frame GC;

YBY confronts ZJ and upholds justice (especially for RX’s death) as he should and captures him in ghost valley;

YBY closes ghost valley himself and orders hot lady LFM to keep an eye on the remaining ghosts to make them atone;

LFM has a chance to be the one keeping ZJ captive and make him pay for what he had done to her and her family (and maybe she cuts his silver tongue out and sends it to XW and maybe he is nice enough to cure her illness for the trouble);

ZCL and WKX (and best girl GXL!) can see themselves vindicated by the knowledge ZJ will rot in the ghost valley with no possibility of ever hoard enough power for himself with those weakened martial arts of his;

**since LQQ doesn’t need to expose ZJ’s true colors for scorpion boy XW, she is not gifted with the recipe for mengpo tea, she leaves YQF to serve XW (or to die, depends on if XW will feel the need to keep him around and feed him the antidote) to either live what little time she (allegedly) has with LFM or she tags along WKX and finds herself in the new Four Seasons Manor and somehow Wu Xi saves her life before she can go back to ghost valley and live a very long and fulfilling life with LFM as sapphics should;

the author of this post is a huge idiot and is well aware this is full of plot holes like a piece of Swiss cheese but damn it if it ain’t a delicious cheese.

PROS:

no immortality (despite how much I love the ending of shl, I know many were hoping for a tyk type of ending so, here’s my solution);

we have a wedding with no bloodshed;

we have sapphics (and a potential new pairing for WX if he keeps insisting on being on his “older men agenda”);

we still have angst with the race-against-time to find ZZS;

the viewer/reader would still be none the wiser if the siege is seen through (what we believe to be) WKX’s pov... but there’s no ZZS in sight either and we then see fake!WKX fall down the cliff only to see real!WKX wake up in ghost valley soon afterwards (and we would still be left bamboozled and in the dark until we understand what ZZS has actually done to give WKX a second chance at life as a normal person).

CONS:

no immortality;

NO “SAVE IT/YOU ARE MY PERSON” SCENE (just to save which I debated against making this very post, just so you know);

NO BELLY HUG SCENE WITH SOFT LAOPO (I deserve to be chased by dogs for this);

no eating ice and snow scene (skin me alive ;^;);

no white-haired WKX;

no sexy dual cultivation;

no armory no mountain no party;

no post-coital, afterglow, flirting, sparring scene with tender gazing on the mountain;

no sweet child NianXiang (kill me for this ;-;)

alternatively:

They discuss like actual soulmates and come up with the plan to fake WKX and ZZS’s death so they can fuck off into the sunset together with their children and live somewhere nice with no jianghu to worry about bc YBY does his best to save them and put ZJ in his place.

“Word of Honor” watch summary

Spoilers NOT Welcome: (I’m posting these to help myself keep track of where I am, not so people can spoil things for me please and thanks.)

Episodes 11 & 12

The Ladies of Ghost sect question WKX’s life choices, but he’s not super interested in introspection.

Chengling tries his hand at being the protagonist, but finds himself in over his head, and ends up rescued by his chaos dads who were moping about their break up in the right places at the right time.

And also WKX tortured some answers out of a guy.

The Ladies of the Scorpion Assassins commit war crimes against an actual child, and the Scorpion kind is upset to discover the World’s Best Assassin and the Ghost King are dating now.

Just in time for rescue dads ZZS and WKX to remember they’ve broken up.  And also swap some tragic backstories around a campfire, because multitasking.

Grumpy man Gao decides he should do something about his missing nephew, if only because Chengling still hasn’t coughed up the Glazed Armor his father gave him ten episodes ago, so he tries questioning Gu Xiang.

Which goes well for GX, until Surprise bride, Gao Xiaolian keeps talking more than she needs to and circles them right back around into suspicion.

Luckily for all, Cao Weining is more than willing to put his reputation on the line and lie in court as Gu Xiang’s alibi.

ZZS and WKX return their precious disaster child to his Grumpy Uncle before anything can get more awkward, and Chengling decides to take after his newly official master, and perform medicine without a license but cutting the Glazed Armor out of his life.

And his body.

From the wound where his father had hidden it ten episodes ago.

With the fresh reminder from their child, ZZS and WKX decide to get back together.

this may be spoilerish, watching the new episodes that is now showing WKZ backstory, where were Wen's parents murdered and how did young Wen get to ghost valley?

spoilers ahead

they were murdered at one of like an affiliated village or house that belongs to zzs’ shifu i think? then zzs and the shifu had to leave a for a bit and promised to come back for them after but before they could, the ghost valley people and also the then ghost valley old man leader killed the parents to get to the key - wkx’s dad in particular bit his own tongue and killed himself, and then you know the white haired lady xi sang gui? i think she knew the dad from before and tried in her own way to save them but she could not, and then wkx turned up and yelled at all the ghosts to basically kill him but xi sang gui suggested to induct him into the ghost valley thereby saving him, which is why xi sang gui gets to sit? when the ghosts are in like meetings and gatherings and wkx is going mad - but xi sang gui gets to have like an ‘elder’s’ position because in her own fucked up ways she’s been trying to help/save him?

and in ep 24 you see how wkx’ smiley face and his agreeable tone and demeanour came about - literally ghost leader is whipping him as a kid and wkx is all “please teach me” god broke my heart

some thoughts after watching the shl finale ~

1. the last few episodes absolutely don't make sense in terms of writing sdjkdkl. like all logics kinda flew out of the window after ep 31 (the last good episode, i stand by this statement. ep 34-36 have their moments including the beginning of ningxiang's wedding but points got taken off bc of Pain)

i mean it's good that wkx's plan finally worked out for once (and i'm glad that chengling was part of the ploy; he didn't actually make his dad #2 fall from a cliff sdjkl) but man i absolutely didn't buy the fact that he managed to convince people in the heroes conference to just. let him go. like that. they got help from yby sure but it still felt too easy :( (plus the way they condemned zhao jing was also kinda stupid)

2. i get that the show didn't have much budget so they had to reduce the episodes from 50 to 36 and that's probably why we don't get really detailed scenes for every side characters. but i felt like shl suffered from this the most on the last few episodes. like we don't even see xsg's death :(( or wkx mourning (or at least acknowledging) the other ghost valley residents' death. most things that happened are just mentioned off screen. which also kinda ruins the pacing for me :(( like i don't get it, if they could make it work in the earlier episodes, the writing not having to suffer from the episode cut, why not keep it up until the last few episodes??

also ep 36 wtf. even if you couldn't show an explicitly happy ending, it was still a weird way to conclude the series..? if people didn't know the special ep exists, it'd be a very confusing & unsatisfying ending

3. i already knew that i would cry in the wedding ep but i didn't expect it would be cwn's death that set it off :(( like the prev ep just showed all the precautions taken by xsg and the other ghost valley ladies to make sure ningxiang can have a happy wedding. still, still it didn't work out. also i felt so bad for cwn's shifu 😭😭 (the kind one not the murderous one obv) gx looks so pretty in her wedding dress tho

4. also i absolutely love it when wenzhou went on a murderous although slightly self-destructive rampage for their loved ones <3

5. btw xie wang managed to go from my top 5 characters to idc-about-him-anymore in the span of 1 episode sdjklf. i can accept murder (and pseudo incestuous relationship ig ew 🤢) but i draw the line at him indirectly murdering ah-xiang 😤

6. the hairpin plot twist totally blew my mind!! my sister was having the time of her life watching me freaking out every time zzs is shown wearing the hairpin after wkx put it on his hair, whispering 'how did this go pass censorship?' only for that hairpin to be revealed as the key. which made me freak out even more bc. he entrusted the key, the thing his parents had protected with their life to zzs, his zhiji. like uwdjfdv 😭😭 also absolutely hilarious that turn out the key the whole jianghu has been searching for was safely pinned to zzs's (and prev wkx's) hair all this time

don't have much to say about what happened after that. it was painful but my annoyance at the weird ending topped my sadness of watching zzs thinking he's losing wkx for the 2nd time. kinda regret not watching the series when it first came out tho bc people's reaction must've been fun :D

Look, the stone is written Mo Ya (stay forever). WOH, episode 24. ZZS, WKX and ZCL go to Siji Manor. The beautiful surroundings encourage hiking. Flowering trees soothe the mind and heart. ZZS talks about Siji Manor, about the fact that the flowers in this place bloom for four seasons and in each season they are different flowers. This is what makes Siji Manor amazing. ZZS is happy to inform ZCL about this. ZCL is delighted with the area. WKX also delights in the views, describing them colorfully. The rabbit's unexpected appearance causes WKX to promise ZCL that he will catch it after the boy calls him Uncle Wen twice. ZCL replies that they will call him the second champion. ZZS opposes rabbit hunting, claims it may be a descendant of one of the rabbits kept by his master's wife, so leave him alone. ZCL claims she had the same passions as his mother. ZZS added that his master's wife and Mrs. Bi had a heart for them and took care of the animals. Both ladies opposed the hunt. ZZS relates that one day his master and uncle Zhang decided to hunt a deer, and the young ZZS told the master's wife about it. The result was that the wife chased the master all over the mountain and finally beat him. ZCL replies that it was similar in his family, his father was often beaten by his mother. Soon, the three of them approach a waterfall with an inscription carved into the rock. ZZS told about the history of the creation of the inscription. That it was engraved by his master a month after his son was born. For each of the three travelers, the road to Siji Manor had a different meaning. For ZZS it was a way of redemption of his faults. For WKX, it was an attempt to find a place for themselves in a world beyond Ghost Valley. And for ZCL, he was hoping to find a new home and family. Each of these three people was haunted by their own demons. They didn't show it. Seemingly, all three of them were joyful, but the secrets they were hiding did not give peace. ZZS knew that it had to face the past. A past he was trying to escape from, but the more he wanted to do so, the more he realized that it was impossible. He had to face it and make a home for WKX and ZCL. WKX still couldn't admit who he had really become over the years. He was afraid that if he told the truth, ZZS and ZCL would not accept him, reject him and despise him. WKX believes that Siji Manor will be a safe place where he can further plan his revenge. ZCL just wants to receive some family warmth, spend time studying with someone who cares about him. This opening scene is visually beautiful and well acted. ZZH and GJ are excellent guardians for a boy without parents. They try to show that the place they are going to can be the perfect home.

I keep seeing people complaining about the special effects on this show, but let’s be real, with the shoestring budget they had, I think it is fantastic! The show is very visually appealing and almost everything they did so far just works so well (the only exception for me being that one underwater scene). I honestly find it much better than The Untamed in this respect. Seeing the way they did the zombies and fight scenes that are supposed to involve a multitude of people, The Untamed really has no excuse.

Chengling thinks they now get to be a family and I am just waiting for the next episode to come and wreck me 😭😭
