Can I ask for advice from you, a rhythm game pro? I remember you saying that you liked rhythm games like Rhythm Heaven because it has more focus on paying attention to the beat and vibe more than reacting to the visuals. I'm only a rhythm game casual so I'd like to know....... how...... Like how do you not use your eyes. I've been watching upcoming event challenge beatmaps in various rhythm games I play, and I don't understand. Like this beatmap for example. youtu(.)be/R0Mdw7Atmh8 (judge me for playing this particular game all you want, that's why I'm on Anon). My rhythm game expert friend says that this one in particular is not actually that bad if you just tap based on the feel of the song and notes, but I don't believe her? Like is that something you can train? I feel like I can tap to a basic rhythm, but every rhythm game with an Expert/Master/Special mode has all those flairs that I just do not get

No problem at all! And no judgement on the game choice! I don’t think there’s really a wrong choice in terms of rhythm games (even with all the sass I give FNF)

So the fundamental difference between games like the one linked and Rhythm Heaven is that while that one is based on hitting the right notes at the right spot (and you need your eyes to get the position of the notes, obvioisly), Rhythm Heaven doesn’t have position as a part of it. It’s all about timing.

So for example, take Ringside. You can play that game with your eyes shut because you just need to listen to hear “wubba dubba dub is that true”, “whoa you go big guy” and “pose for the fans”. That gives you the timing you need. For the game your rhythm game friend is talking about, yes getting into the groove can help you hit those notes on time pretty well, but unless you know the level itself by heart, it’s going to be INCREDIBLY difficult to know exactly WHERE to hit those notes.
