[ID: A banner ad reading MESSI IN CHICAGO, OCTOBER 4 and urging us to buy tickets; beneath the text are images of two footballers, both bearded with short hair, in the jerseys of the Chicago Fire and Inter Miami.]
Chicago is very excited to play Miami in October and has been pushing Messi's presence on the team pretty hard (tickets are already up about $150 from their normal price). But this is my favorite ad I've seen because it's...not subtle.
Leo Messi (on the right) is a world-renowned footballer, one of the best ever to play the game. He's also 5'7", which is extremely short for a footballer.
Xherdan Shaqiri, on the left, is a new-ish player for the Chicago Fire, imported from Europe, where he has played for several clubs as well as the Swiss national team for many years. He's Albanian by heritage but grew up in Switzerland, and he's known as the Swiss Messi.
Because Shaqiri (aka Shaq) is 5'5".
I see what you're doing there, Fire. I see u.
